Will The Eras Tour Come To Australia?

Yes! At 2am on the 21 st June, along with other regions worldwide, Taylor Swift finally announced that she will be bringing her Eras tour to Australia with dates slated for Sydney and Melbourne. On the 29th June, following high demand at presale, two more dates were announced as follows:

  • Melbourne MCG: Friday, 16 February 2024
  • Melbourne MCG: Saturday, 17 February 2024
  • NEW SHOW! Melbourne MCG: Sunday, 18 February 2024
  • Sydney Accor Arena: Friday, 23 February 2024
  • Sydney Accor Arena: Saturday, 24 February 2024
  • Sydney Accor Arena: Sunday 25 February 2024
  • NEW SHOW! Sydney Accor Arena: Monday, 26 February 2024

Aussie Swifties have been waiting for this announcement ever since the Grammy award winning artist first announced the US tour dates. Adding fuel to the rumours, notorious Instagram gossip page DeuxMoi did hint that Australian fans could be in luck, sharing an anonymous tip that read:

“Dates have been booked for Taylor at the MCG in Melbourne, Aus. So, she’s definitely coming to Australia!”

What Other Countries Will Taylor Visit?

Initially, the Eras tour was slated for US locations only .

When Taylor announced the tour back in November 2022, she wrote, “I’m enchanted to announce my next tour: Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour, a journey through the musical eras of my career (past & present!).

“The first leg of the tour will be in stadiums across the US, with international dates to be announced as soon as we can!”

Fast forward to May 2023 and the first round of international dates were (finally) announced.

On May 2, 2023, Taylor shared the news that she would bring Eras to Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil.

To top it off, she also announced that none other than Sabrina Carpenter would be the support act for the Latin American shows. Does it get much better than that?

Are Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide Getting Eras Tour Dates?

Taylor Swift has announced shows for Sydney and Melbourne only. Luckily, there are multiple dates in big stadiums, so if you live outside of those cities, now is the time to start saving for a trip to Sydney or Melbourne!

Will Any More Dates Be Announced For Australia?

Yes! Following presale, Taylor Swift announced two more dates for the Eras Tour, one in Sydney (Monday 26 Feb 2024) and in Melbourne (Sunday 18 Feb 2024).

Who Is The Support Act for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Australia?

Supporting Taylor for her Australian dates is none other than Sabrina Carpenter. The American singer has recently wrapped her own headline US tour, Emails I Can’t Send Tour and was recently announced as the support act for Taylor’s Latin America tour dates. TAYLOR SWIFT WILL BE HEADING TO MEXICO AND SOUTH AMERICA FIRST

On May 2, Swift announced that the first round of international dates would bring the Eras Tour to Latin America.

“Really thrilled to tell you this!! Mexico, Argentina and Brazil: We are bringing The Eras Tour to you this year! Sweet angel princess Sabrina Carpenter will be joining us on all of the shows!” she wrote on Instagram.

It’s a sweet gesture that Swift is prioritising Latin America in her Eras Tour, given she has only toured North America, Europe, Australia and Asia in her previous tours.

Where Else Is Taylor Swift Playing Internationally?

Taylor Swift will finish out 2023 in Latin America before moving to Japan in 2024 to start the new Asia/Oceania leg of her tour, which includes Japan, Australia and Singapore, before she darts to Europe.

Her European leg is slightly more extensive, starting in Paris, then Sweden, Lisbon, Madrid, Lyon, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff, London, Dublin, Amsterdam, Zurich, Milan, Gelsenkirken, Hamburg, Munich, Warsaw, Vienna with two more shows in London to finish.

More Taylor Swift

You don’t need to be a fan of Taylor Swift to know she’s heading to Australia next February – news of the tour spread so far and wide, it even reached Parliament (because ICYMI, she’s only playing shows in Naarm/Melbourne and Eora/Sydney, making fans in other cities lose their goddamn minds).

With seven shows on the itinerary, it’ll be the first time Swift has performed Down Under since November 2018. She’s kept exceptionally busy since, releasing four new studio albums – Lover in 2019, Folklore and Evermore in 2020, and Midnights in 2022 – as well as re-recorded versions (or Taylor’s Versions ) of Fearless , Red and Speak Now . The dates come as part of Swift’s monumental Eras tour, following lengthy stints in North and South America, plus a few shows in Japan.

There’s a lot to keep an eye out for, and a lot of news to keep up with – so, as we gear up for the biggest pop tour of the decade (an incredible feat when you realise it’s hitting just two cities), we’ve rounded up all the info available for the Australian leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour. Make sure to bookmark this page, as we’ll keep updating it whenever new info drops!

Concerts – especially the big ones – have only gotten more stressful as multiple ticketing agencies and traffic take over our cities whenever the shows roll into town. To help with the overwhelming practice of seeing your favourite acts, The Music has rounded up the dates and venues you need to know, how to get to venues – public transport or driving included, reviews and setlists for the real dedicated fans, the support acts, and what albums acts are promoting.

TICKETING INFO

Tickets to all seven shows have sold out, however Ticketek have a webpage set up for the Eras tour, and you can check back there for any potential resales. We’ll also update this tour guide if we hear anything about new ticket releases. Ticketek is the only authorised ticket seller for the tour; it’s strongly advised that fans steer clear of parasitic resale sites like Viagogo, as they’re known to be riddled with scammers and fake tickets. Tixel , on the other hand, is much more reliable, and has measures put in place to avoid scams and rip-offs.

SUPPORT ACTS

All seven shows on the Australian leg of the Eras tour will be supported by Sabrina Carpenter , who is making her Australian debut with the trip. We recently highlighted six of her songs to check out before the shows .

WHAT SHE’S PROMOTING

Technically, all ten of Swift’s studio albums: as its name implies, the Eras tour features a handful of songs from every era of the pop star’s ongoing tenure, from her self-titled 2006 debut to last year’s record-breaking Midnights album. That latter record is indeed her most recent body of all-new material, arriving on October 21, 2022 and sporting hits like Anti-Hero and Lavender Haze .

There’s also Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , which hit shelves on July 7 of this year and has since been dominating the charts. It’s a full re-recording of Swift’s third album (which we first heard in October 2010) and comes with a handful of previously unheard songs “from the vault”, like the Fall Out Boy -assisted Electric Touch and an epic duet between Swift and Hayley Williams (of Paramore fame) called Castles Crumbling .

The Music was on the ground for the Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne dates of Swift’s 2018 tour of Australia. Reviewing her show at The Gabba, Roshan Clerke wrote that “every aspect of the show exhibits ... meticulous attention to detail, to the extent that it sometimes feels as if we’re watching a lyric video”. In his write-up on the Sydney date, Mark Neilsen opined that Swift’s performance was “almost like a made-for-TV spectacular” – and in Melbourne, Michael Prebeg found it to be “two hours of non-stop jaw-dropping entertainment”.

In a review of the Eras tour stop in New Jersey, NME’s Erica Campbell wrote : “It’s easy to hear some of [Swift’s] tracks as saccharine, take Shake It Off or even the TikTok-worthy chorus of the excruciatingly well-written Anti-Hero . But viewed as an entire story, watched for more than three hours straight, her discography seems less painted by moments of easily digestible pop songs or acutely aware indie pop tracks (looking at you, Cardigan ) but a full picture of what it means to be human; perhaps specifically a woman fighting for your right to embody a full range of emotions shamelessly, in tears, sequins, and in tonight, thigh-high sparkling boots.”

Reviewing the same show for Rolling Stone , Rob Sheffield gave it similar praise : “This is [Swift’s] best tour ever, by an absurd margin. It’s a journey through her past, starring all the different Taylors she’s ever been, which means all the Taylors that  you’ve  ever been. Taylor always designs every tour to be the best night of your life. But she designed this one to be the best night of all your lives. Every Era you’ve ever lived through, it’s in here. She does 46 songs, plus snippets of a few more. That means this show has 22 percent of her songbook, and don’t even imagine she didn’t plan it that way.”

Elsewhere, shows on the Eras tour have been lauded by Buzzfeed , Variety , The New Yorker , The Atlantic and The New York Times .

Here’s what we know as of July 24, 2023. But as with many significant events and venues, things will likely change in the lead-up to these shows. We’ll update this guide with show-specific transport info when it comes to hand.

MELBOURNE CRICKET GROUND

Public parking is available at Yarra Park for $10, subject to capacity and variables outlined on the MCG’s website. Alternatively, there are Wilson Parking lots at 11 Exhibition Street, 28 Flinders Street, 172 Flinders Street and in Federation Square (202 Flinders Lane), as well as independent lots at 34-60 Little Collins Street and 114 Flinders Street. There’s also the Eastern Plaza Car Park, and metered parking along Fitzroy Gardens, the Botanical Gardens and the Yarra River. Accessible parking is available.

TAXI/RIDESHARE

According to the MCG, “taxis are available from the ground at the conclusion of each event.” There are three taxi ranks around the venue – one on Jolimont Terrace, one outside Rod Laver Arena on Olympic Boulevard, and one in front of Pullman Hotel on the corner of Wellington Parade and Clarendon Street in East Melbourne.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

For those arriving by train, the MCG is a 150-metre walk from Jolimont Station (optimal for entry via Gates 1 and 2) or a 250-metre walk from Richmond Station (optimal for entry via Gates 5 and 7). For those preferring trams, the #75, #48 and #70 lines all stop at the MCG. Lastly, there’s the #246 bus. More info can be found here .

ACCOR STADIUM

Driving (h4).

Parking is available at Sydney Olympic Park, subject to capacity. It’s advised that punters hoping to park pre-book their spot seven-to-ten working days in advance via the Sydney Olympic Park website . Accor Stadium’s website also advises concertgoers to “expect roads approaching Accor Stadium to be busier than usual on event days”. Realtime info on Sydney traffic can be accessed via the NSW government’s Live Traffic platform .

There’s a taxi rank outside the Novotel hotel on Olympic Boulevard, just across the street from Accor Stadium. For those using rideshare services like Uber, it’s suggested that concertgoers are dropped off and/or picked up on Dawn Fraser Avenue, a short walk from the venue.

For select major events, Sydney Olympic Park have their own bus service, with several routes operating around metropolitan Sydney and the park itself; there are also busses on route #525 (which runs between Parramatta and Strathfield via Olympic Park), #526 (which runs from Rhodes to Burwood via the Olympic Park ferry wharf on Hill Road) and #533 (which runs from Olympic Park to Chatswood via Rhodes and North Ryde). For those arriving by train, Accor Stadium is an estimated five-minute walk from Olympic Park Station. Taylor Swift knows we need more — so she’s giving us just that. The singer has added 14 more shows to the European/U.K. leg of her Eras Tour , and announced that Paramore will provide support throughout the trek.

Hayley and I have been friends since we were teens in Nashville and now we get to frolic around the UK/Europe next summer??? I’m screaming???”

Last month, Swift added dozens of shows to her Taylor Swift: The Eras stadium tour — bringing the total count of shows to a whooping 104 nights . She also extended her run at Los Angeles’ So-Fi Stadium with a sixth show scheduled for Aug. 7.

The new addition comes after the singer announced shows in Japan, Australia, Singapore, and Europe earlier this week. (See below for the full tour dates.)

“EXCUSE ME HI I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY 🙋‍♀️,” she wrote on Instagram. “I can’t wait to see so many of you on The Eras Tour next year at these new international dates!”

She also added more dates to her already-announced Latin America tour. After wrapping her U.S. dates in Los Angeles on Aug. 9, Swift will head to Mexico City for four straight shows at Foro Sol starting Aug. 24. She’ll then stop in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and both Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in Brazil in November.

Swift first announced the tour last October after she completely took over the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 with Midnights . The added dates, which follow the addition of eight new shows last week, were slotted in “due to unprecedented demand,” according to the singer’s camp.

“Good Morning America, it’s Taylor,” Swift said during the announcement. “I wanted to tell you something that I’ve been so excited about for a really long time and I’ve been planning for ages, and I finally get to tell you I’m going back on tour. The tour is called the ‘Eras’ tour, and it’s a journey through all of my musical eras of my career.”

The tour began on March 17 in Glendale, Arizona and extends through Aug. 9, where the singer will wrap with a fifth night at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Swift still has stops left in Detroit, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Santa Clara.

Taylor swift's music returns to tiktok, despite app's ongoing dispute with umg, fuerza régida want you to see them on tour — but don't fall in love.

Across the tour, Swift is being supported in select cities by a combination of special guests including Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, MUNA, HAIM, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams, and OWENN.

The Eras tour follows the cancelation of her planned 2020 Lover Fest tour, which was originally going to see her make stadium stops in Los Angeles, Boston, and New York, along with Brazil, Denmark, Norway, and Poland. “This is an unprecedented pandemic that has changed everyone’s plans and no one knows what the touring landscape is going to look like in the near future,” she wrote in 2021.

Swift last went the road in 2018 for her massive Reputation Stadium Tour , which saw Swift accompanied by the likes of Charli XCX and Camila Cabello across the United States, the United Kingdom, along with Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. The tour was the highest-grossing music tour by a female artist that year.

Since her last tour, Swift has released four albums and two re-releases: Lover , Folklore , Evermore , Midnights , and Taylor’s Version editions of Fearless and Red with additional songs. In total, she’s dropped 90 tracks of new material, not including collaborations with the likes of Haim and Big Red Machine.

Fans have long wondered what music she’ll be performing on the road, with some theorizing that she’d host a residency in Las Vegas or a music festival where she’d perform different “eras” on different nights.

Along with packing her setlist with songs from Reputation in 2018, she surprised each city with an acoustic rendition of fan favorites like “Red,” “Holy Ground,” and “Wildest Dreams.” At select shows, she also brought out special guests. Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez, Hayley Kiyoko, and Maren Morris were among the artists to be brought out by Swift.

The stadium tour was accompanied by a concert film released on New Year’s Eve that year.

She previously took her 1989 album on the road for 85 dates, where she was accompanied by the likes of Mendes, James Bay, Vance Joy, and Haim. Before then was The Red Tour in 2013 and 2014, and her Speak Now World Tour from 2011 to 2012.

The Eras Tour review: How Taylor Swift captivated a nation

Entertainment

Avatar of Shivaune Field

Australia’s Eras Tour is officially over. Across seven stadium shows, Taylor Swift sold more than 600,000 tickets and dominated headlines throughout the country. So what is the secret sauce that allows entertainment’s golden girl to electrify audiences all over the world? Forbes Australia spoke to Swifties in Sydney and joined the diehard fans at Accor Stadium to understand the phenomenon.

australia eras tour

There were forests, bicycles, columns of light, a doll house, fireworks, beaches, pumpkins, diamonds, flickering bracelets, trains, candles, smoke shows, snow, witches, tuxedos, neon golf clubs, and shooting flames.

Snakes, confetti. Perfect storms.

Taylor Swift’s Sydney show covered all four seasons, literally and metaphorically. The concert was packed with mythology and escapism. Storytelling and individualism. Sprinkles of kindness and kinetic energy.

Before the first of her four Sydney concerts had even started, a ferocious thunderstorm swept through the city. It set the tone for an electric performance that closed out a scorching day where the mercury hit 38 degrees. At 6 pm buckets of rain descended, cancelling the opening act and evacuating sparkling Swifties who had taken their expensive seats early. Less than two hours later, the stage had been mopped, the ominous clouds had retreated, and Swift took to the stage in a shimmering leotard, commanding not just the focus of 88,000 concert-goers, but seemingly the weather gods too.

By Taylor-time it was a delightful 22 with a welcome breeze. The three-and-a-half-hour performance put on by Frontier Touring was largely rain-free. Though had it not been, Swift and her stiletto boots would have marched forward with the show anyway. There were times that Accor Stadium – an open-air venue built for the Sydney Olympics – felt stuffy and humid. As if on cue, a delicate dusting of mist percolated down from the skies. It lasted just minutes, the audience was rejuvenated, homeostasis was restored, and the Swift extravaganza rolled on.

References to the changing nature of nature were not just present in Sydney’s weather but reinforced on the enormous screen that was a backdrop to the performance on stage. Captivating depictions of summer, autumn, winter and spring – eras within themselves – drew the viewer in and added to the sensory overload headlined by Swift’s vocals.

Adding to the sumptuous visuals, was Swift in a pastel blue ball gown singing Enchanted to Meet You amid lilac flowers. Before that, reptilian black and red sharp edges for Ready For It and Look What You Made Me Do. Comforting autumnal texture and tones brought it back down to earth for Willow and Champagne Problems. A defiant metallic fuschia two-piece shimmied from one end of the stage to the other during Shake It Off. Swift wore ethereal white for Betty while singing atop a moss-covered cabin. And to close out the show, sported glimmering royal blue – as she reminded the audience of the power of Karma, and the guy on the Chiefs coming home with her to Crown’s penthouse apartment at Barangaroo.

Rather than the beginning, middle and end that is evident in many stories, Swift delivered a rollercoaster of ups, downs, juxtapositions and friction, stops and starts. The energy was akin to the spikes between crescendo and rest on a heart monitor, simultaneously dramatic and yet reassuring in its consistency. Swift didn’t just begin strong, transition to the slower ballads, and then finish up-tempo. The frenetic pacing facilitated a seamless transition between multiple eras, records, and tones.

The result was captivating from start to finish. Swift pulled off the impossible – the encapsulation of the good girl with the seductress, folklore with the snake. She was all four mythological Sex and the City characters in one. From Charlotte to Samantha, Miranda to Carrie, and back again using diametrically opposing forces to pinball the audience from one extreme to the other.

It is a feat that held the viewer not just on the edge of their seat, but on their feet dancing. Even more impressively, it was a living embodiment of a woman’s ability to be more than one thing. A refusal to be pigeonholed into one dimension. The takeaway was epic in both its ambition and execution: Swift is multi-faceted, unapologetic about it, and a shining light to girls and women who have no interest in being contained within one bucket.

australia eras tour

The buckets that women are often assigned to, reach back to Greek mythology. Known as ‘goddess archetypes,’ these categorizations seek to define women as one thing, rather than enable them to be multi-dimensional. The warrior, the strategist, the wise woman, the wife, the mother, the maiden, and the lover are each assigned a Goddess in Greek mythology. In Jungian psychology, the 7 archetypes are known as the innocent, the caregiver, the outlaw, the beloved, the scholar, the explorer, and the ruler.

Throughout Swift’s Eras Tour performance, she showcases her ability to transcend between these archetypes, using outfit changes, dance, colour, song, dialogue, body language, and lyrics. In doing so, she provides an example for others to think of themselves as multi-dimensional, and a refusal to be labelled as just one thing. Swift, not anyone else, sets the narrative on who she is, and so can they.

From the stage to the streets: Swifties descend on Sydney

The backup dancers and vocalists on the Eras Tour were positioned not just as performers but also as a part of Swift’s squad. She was the star of the show sure, and held the spotlight with ease, but bringing her ‘mates’ along for the ride was undoubtedly a pivotal part of the sisterhood message. And it is one that is reverberating throughout every city the Eras Tour visits.

Sparkling Swifties filled the streets of Sydney this weekend. At bus stops, train stations, and in the airport. Making their way to the stadium, dressed not for the male gaze, but for each other and most importantly, for themselves. There were men at the show, but sitting around me in seats on the floor of the stadium, I could spot just three. One in a Travis Kelce jersey, one in a black and red snake ‘Reputation’ ensemble, and one Grant Denyer navigating his cowboy boot-wearing daughter’s hand through the crowd.

$558 million and counting: Swifties’ bumper boost to Aussie economy

Before Friday’s concert, I chatted to a group of four girls aged between 20 and 23 who had flown into Sydney from Hobart to attend the show. Their enthusiasm was palpable. Swifties were easy to spot at the airport – the rows of bright-coloured bracelets around their wrists featuring round letters were a giveaway. I approached another group of six jewellery-wearing travellers and asked them where they had flown in from.

“We ran a competition to give away tickets to fly down to Sydney, accommodation, and to go into the suite to see Taylor Swift,” a lady holding 30 or so bracelets tells me. “I work on Nova in Brisbane, my name is Susie O’Neill and I’m on the breakfast show.”

The winners of Brisbane’s Nova radio competition accompanied O’Neill on the flight to Sydney. 13-year-old Siena Kisten and her mum Chantal Kisten, 40, were thrilled to win tickets to Swift through Nova. They had previously tried to buy tickets to the concert on Facebook Marketplace and lost $600 in the transaction.

O’Neill and her breakfast co-hosts chose the Kistens out of hundreds of entrants in the competition. The second group of winners were Ffion Mills and Renee Mackay.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ash, Luttsy & Susie O’Neill (@ashluttsyandsusieoneill)

“We had to say in 25 words or less why we should win,” says Mills. “Mine was… recently qualified paramedic, got married last month and turning 30, so I have lots to celebrate.”

O’Neill says the value of the trip Nova was providing to the winners was high, but didn’t know the exact figure.

“It’s priceless obviously,” says O’Neill. “Nova bought the suite. And a ticket from Brisbane to Sydney this week was about the same price as flying someone to Las Vegas.”

At Sydney’s Central train station – a thoroughfare for Swifties boarding the train to the stadium in Homebush – Eras Tour signage was set up for fans to take photos with.

It is there I meet a group of four women who went to boarding school together in Yeppoon, and flew in for the show. At 3 pm – four hours before the concert starts – the 41-year-olds are already sparkling head to toe in their Swifty best. Between them, Rebecca Singleton, Cassie Brown, Annette Priddle and Emily Brown estimate they collectively spent around $7000 to make the trip happen.

“I have a 9-year-old daughter who was very jealous she isn’t coming,” says Cassie Brown who flew in to Sydney from Rockhampton airport.

The Swift Effect

Reflecting on the event the morning after the show, I asked my niece Ella – who did not attend the concert – what it is about Swift that she thinks made the concert such a hot ticket. The 12-year-old Melbourne girl gave me four words to describe Swift’s appeal: Joyful, creative, role model and kind.

I quizzed my mum – who came with me to the Sydney show – how she sums up T Swift’s popularity. “She has many dimensions, seems appreciative, is clean living, and relatable,” the 74-year-old says. “I think her allure has a lot to do with how she talks to and engages with the audience.”

An artist revealing their ‘real’ or ‘genuine’ self is a powerful way to connect, says Kate Rourke, Getty Images head of creative for APAC.

“These are values that seem to be clearly understood by Taylor Swift, whose brand appears to be centred around being authentic and relatable,” says Rourke.

“Taylor often shows she is unafraid to exhibit true thoughts and emotions on stage – whether that’s crying with gratitude in front of her 96,000 fans who attended her Melbourne concert, or sharing the emotionally raw inspiration behind her heartfelt songs.”

australia eras tour

Getty has photographed the Eras Tour all over the world, and recently conducted research into what resonates with Australians. Its Insights division known as VisualGPS found a 329% increase in interest for visuals of Swift from January to February. The research also found that the characteristics Swift is known for intersect with the preferences of Gen Z and millennial audiences.

“VisualGPS insights reveal a notable trend amongst Australian consumers: an increasing desire for authenticity in imagery. In fact, 87% of Gen Z and millennials noted that it was important that visuals are authentic,” says Rourke.

And such is the appeal of Swift. From a 12-year-old to a 74-year-old, and me a 44-year-old in between. The music is great, no doubt. The community of Swifties is a drawcard for many. But for others, who are not diehard fans, it is the dynamic experience of a live Swift show that is a welcome assault on your senses, leaving you with a high, an empowerment to sparkle unapologetically, and a belief that you can reinvent yourself as many times as feels right.

I should add, unlike many of the folk I talked to for this article, I do not consider myself a Swiftie. I have never bought an album, and while I do like her songs and often ask Alexa to play Swift, I couldn’t identify the ‘Eras’ or four new albums she was referencing in the tour, until doing research for this story. Accordingly, it wasn’t T Swift’s latest music that was the drawcard for me to attend the show.

australia eras tour

What I anticipated, was that it would be a spectacle, an escape from a rough week, a celebratory moment with my mum that would be one for the history books, and an up close and personal method to understand a cultural phenomenon.

True to form, the Eras Tour was every bit the spectacular visual and audible feast I had heard it would be. It set a record – and perhaps a benchmark – as not just my first Swift concert, but the most start-to-finish captivating live event I’ve ever been to.

Such is the power of mythology, a finetuned tour that grossed a billion-dollars last year alone, and the folklore of global golden girl Swift.

From intricate DIYs to ethical dilemmas, Taylor Swift's Eras Tour spotlights the culture of concert fashion

For some Taylor Swift fans, securing a coveted ticket to the Australia leg of the superstar's Eras Tour was just the start of their stress — it was time to start curating the perfect concert outfit.

Swifties who knew their way around a sewing machine and a hot glue gun got to work.

For others, fast fashion retailers were quick to offer up enough cowboy boots and sequin mini-skirts for every era.

Dressing up for concerts has been happening for decades, and Taylor Swift isn't the only performer who inspires fans to follow a dress code.

Feather boas were the must-have accessory for Harry Styles's world tour last year, though concert goers from London to Sydney were criticised for leaving a massacre of feathers in their wake post-show.

A young woman in a pink outfit smiles as her partner shows the back of his pink shirt.

Beyonce went a step further and for her birthday asked fans attending her Renaissance tour during Virgo season to don their "most fabulous silver fashions."

And who is going to say no to Beyonce? And on her birthday?

But what separates Taylor Swift's Eras Tour from her peers is how it spotlights just how elaborate concert outfit culture has become.

For some fans, the desire to get involved can quickly tip into pressure to look the part, or risk feeling left out among hundreds of thousands of fans.

'I have to be part of this club'

Writer, editor and podcaster Jasmine Wallis has been a Swiftie for years but had never seen the singer live until she touched down for three shows in Melbourne earlier this month.

"I'd seen all the Eras Tour outfits from the US so I knew it was a big occasion and people dress up and it's very much a celebration of girlhood," she told ABC News.

"I suddenly felt all this pressure to dress up sparkly and sequined."

Two women in their twenties in sparkly silver skirts smile inside a stadium.

While her friends started making their own outfits months ahead of the February tour, Wallis knew she'd buy something closer to the date, then suddenly found herself cutting it close.

"I probably spent about two hours on my computer on Sunday night going through all these websites that I've never even looked at before," she said.

"From a value perspective, I try not to not buy fast fashion in general but especially not ultra-fast fashion."

After realising nothing would be delivered in time, Wallis went in-store and found herself considering a $70 sequin mini-skirt "that was falling apart in the dressing room."

"I was still like 'no, I should buy this because I don't want to be left out'. It was really weird, the FOMO culture of it all.

"Even as a 27-year-old with critical thinking skills, who talks about fast fashion all the the time, I was still just like 'I have to be part of this club.'"

Wallis ended up wearing a silver sequin skirt borrowed from a friend, who bought it specially for the Eras Tour but had decided on wearing something else.

"I probably saw 100 girls in the same skirt, but it was really fun to wear something I wouldn't normally wear and feel sparkly and glittery and paired with things I already own."

Friends dressed up for Taylor Swift concert Melbourne

According to the Australian Fashion Council (AFC), Australians buy on average 56 items of clothing annually, with 200,000 tonnes of clothing going into landfill every year.

"While fashion can bring people such joy, uplift experiences and allow us to creatively express ourselves, we know that it also has a large impact on the planet," an AFC spokesperson said.

"Sustainability and circularity are increasingly important to customers, and it's essential to a resilient and thriving industry — businesses that don't adapt and evolve will be left behind."

Taylor Swift has toured Australia multiple times before, but fans have noticed a distinct shift in the look of the crowd for the Eras Tour.

"Friends who had seen her before were like, 'this is a new phenomenon, when I saw the Reputation tour people weren't dressing up like this,'" Wallis said.

While Wallis suspects social media might be fuelling fans' desire to dress up more, her personal want to dress up "came from this being one of the biggest pop culture entertainment moments in the last decade in Australia, I'd say maybe even more, and wanting to capture the moment and really get involved."

'I've joked that I'll be buried in it'

Scores of Swifties were inspired to DIY their own Eras Tour outfits, including 25-year-old Izzie Peachey who started working on her look before international tour dates were even announced.

"While Taylor was touring through the US I loved seeing other people make their own outfits and knew this was something I wanted to do myself," she told ABC News.

"When I first laid eyes on the original pink and blue Lover bodysuit, I was absolutely obsessed."

A group of four girls smile and pose with one hand each in the air. They're all wearing glittery bodysuits or dresses

For Ms Peachey, the process of recreating the bodysuit Swift wears to open her blockbuster show took five months.

"[I] can safely say I spent over 100 hours working on it," she said, adding the look involved 12,000 rhinestones and upwards of 7,000 sequins, all individually hand glued and sewn.

"Gluing rhinestones is easy, the most time consuming part was definitely sewing sequins. I also unpicked and re-sewed a lot of them because the colours weren't right.

"I really wanted to make the bodysuit as close to the original as I could."

A composite image of Taylor Swift on stage in a pink and blue sequined bodysuit, and Izzie's exact replica.

Ms Peachey says she's had offers to purchase the bodysuit, but "I worked too hard on it and it means too much to me to give away."

"I've joked with my family and friends that I'll be buried in it!"

"There was such an incredible vibe and sense of community at the concert where everyone was constantly complimenting each other's work and craftsmanship."

It was a similar story for Jacquie Addison, with the 24-year-old deciding to make her own outfit after securing a ticket.

"I was shocked my friends and I were actually able to get tickets so I decided it was probably a once in a lifetime event and I wanted to go all out," she told ABC News, adding she had seen others' homemade Eras Tour outfits on TikTok.

A young women, dressed in a bedazzled midnight blue leotard and purple tinsel jacket, creates a heart with her hands

Despite Ms Addison's only previous sewing experience being "Year 9 home economics where we made pencil cases," she recreated Swift's intricate Midnights bodysuit and tinsel jacket she wears for the show's big finale.

"I spent seven months overall making the whole outfit. I did the jacket as a break from rhinestoning the bodysuit at times," she said.

While Ms Addison created her own look, she understands why others turned to fast fashion.

"I think for us younger generation at the moment it's hard buying slow fashion or being able to afford the more environmentally friendly options.

"[We're] already spending so much money on tickets and accommodation alone, so I can understand people looking to fast fashion options.

"I think it's at least good that people are reusing and selling what they've bought for the concert as it will save some people buying from the fast fashion stores."

Taylor Swift sings into a microphone as she fans her left hand out beside her while dressed in a blue bodysuit and tinsel jacket

Ms Peachey says she never considered buying an outfit, but respected those who purchased something brand new for the occasion.

"There is no doubt that the fashion industry needs to change," she said.

"In saying that, Taylor's Eras Tour is a cultural phenomenon and a once in a lifetime experience that most people will remember for the rest of their lives.

"And if having the perfect sparkly outfit is important to them, as it was to me, then wear whatever you want."

'An insurmountable amount of sequins in op shops'

It's a sentiment echoed by Sam Todd, the owner and fashion designer behind the brand The Volt.

Like fast fashion brands, Ms Todd tapped into the phenomenon of the Eras Tour and designed a clothing range of prints featuring subtle nods to Swift's discography.

But unlike fast fashion brands, every garment from The Volt is handmade by Ms Todd.

"[Sustainability] has been at the forefront of the brand from the start. It's always been made in really small batches here in Brisbane," she told ABC News.

A young women in a cute blue outfit smiles and throws her hands in the air in the stadium.

"And we love to do these exclusive limited collections just like the Taylor Swift one and the Harry Styles one before where we only get a limited amount of fabric so we're not left with all of this waste afterwards."

And it's been a hit, with the Eras Tour-inspired collection being The Volt's most popular collection of all time, "especially the Reputation print," Ms Todd adds.

The collection was designed to be worn multiple times long after Taylor Swift has jetted off, so the garments feature versatile patterns that work with an existing wardrobe — with not a sequin in sight.

"You just know there is going to be an insurmountable amount of sequins in the op shops over the coming months."

Ms Todd has been running her own business for five years and says she's noticed a shift in consumer behaviour post-COVID.

"People, and myself included, don't really want to buy a piece just to wear it once and then never again.

"We're all a bit more savvy with our money now, especially when you're buying slow fashion and it's a little bit more expensive. You want to know that you're gonna get so much more out of it than just being able to wear it once."

When designing her latest collection, Ms Todd wanted to appeal to "all levels of Taylor Swift fans, because there's some people who are all in and want to do crazy costumes, and then there's also people who are just a bit more casual and want to wear a skirt with a nice top."

Despite being a business owner and lover of fun fashion, Ms Todd says "you absolutely don't have to go over the top and dress up if you don't want to."

"I hate to say this as someone who owns a brand who makes concert clothes, but we're going to be sitting in the grandstands in the dark. If it's not for you, you don't have to do it.

"But if you love fashion and dressing up, this is the perfect occasion.

"I think the pressure is only created from social media," she adds.

"Once you're there and you're at the concert you'll see so many people who aren't dressed up, who aren't there to take photos and you'll be totally okay.

"Which is so it's such an oxymoron for me to say as someone who is getting up and taking photos, but it's the truth.

"It's not for everyone and that's so fine."

Arts & entertainment, design & style, travel & leisure, search concrete playground, gorgeous news: more tickets to taylor swift's australian 'eras' tour shows are being released.

Gorgeous News: More Tickets to Taylor Swift's Australian 'Eras' Tour Shows Are Being Released

Don't already have a date with Taylor Swift's Eras tour booked when it hits Australia in February 2024? Perhaps it won't be a cruel summer after all: more tickets are releasing on Friday, November 10.

When Sydney and Melbourne stops for Swift's career-spanning showcase were announced back in June , it sparked a rush for seats. Before general sales even started, the 'We Are Never Getting Back Together', 'Shake It Off' and 'Bad Blood' musician had announced an extra gig in both cities . And,  the Victorian Government even declared her Melbourne stint a major event so that anti-scalping legislation would apply to tickets. So, the response has clearly been huge — and now Swifties will have another chance to head along.

Tour promoter Frontier Touring has announced that additional tickets will drop across all Aussie concert dates, with the Sydney shows releasing their extra tickets at 10am and the Melbourne shows doing the same at 4pm — all AEDT. Included among the new batch will be seats with a partially obstructed side view, with prices starting at $79.90.

There'll still be limited tickets in the new release, but accessibility options will also be on offer. Expect another busy Ticketek day, obviously, with the singer-songwriter's Australian shows already garnering "historically unprecedented demand".

Swift is playing the MCG in Melbourne across Friday, February 16–Sunday, February 18, and then heading north to hit the stage at Sydney's Accor Stadium from Friday, February 23–Monday, February 26. At all gigs, she'll have Sabrina Carpenter in support.

That blank space in your calendar that you were hoping to fill with Swift working through her entire career so far, playing tracks from each of her studio albums in a three-hour, 44-song, ten-act spectacular? You now have another attempt to do so.

Sadly, Swift still hasn't added concerts in any other cities across Australia — as Frontier has previously advised, "no further dates will be added for the Australian tour".

This'll be Swift's first tour Down Under since 2018, when she brought her Reputation shows to not only Sydney and Melbourne, but Brisbane and Perth, too. And if you're wondering what's in store, then you clearly haven't seen Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour as a movie, aka a concert film of her latest shows that's been screening in cinemas Down Under since October.

Taylor Swift will bring The Eras Tour to Australia in February 2024. Additional seats will go on sale on Friday, November 10 — at 10am AEDT for Sydney shows and 4pm AEDT for Melbourne shows. Head to the tour website for further details.

Taylor Swift Is Releasing ‘Partially Obstructed’ Tix To The Eras Tour So Here’s What To Expect

australia eras tour

Alexandra Koster

General public ticket sales for the Eras Tour kicked off on Friday, June 30 and they were a bloodbath. Now, a final round of tix are going on sale today Friday, November 10. And while there are limited numbers and many are partially obscured side-view tickets, fans are scrambling to get their hands on a chance to be in the same (admittedly large) room as Miss Swift.

So if you’re anything like me, you’re in full delulu mode and planning your Taylor Swift outfits , operating under the assumption that you’ll absolutely get tickets in this final drop despite the fact that literally millions of people are trying to get them, far outweighing ticket availability.

Sounds bad for you, but not me! I’m getting tickets! Surely! Hooray!

At this stage, it’s important to note that being able to buy any ticket at this stage is considered a success . But we’re dreamers here at PEDESTRIAN.TV. We’re also a little bit delulu, envisioning a world where we’ll not only be able to skip the queue and buy tickets, we’ll be able to choose what section we’re getting to sit in.

But even if that’s not at all possible, let’s have a look at the layout of the venue and what we can expect if we do end up with partially constructed side-view tickets.

Luckily, a bunch of Eras concertgoers overseas have kindly spilled the tea on TikTok, sharing what the seats around the stadium actually look like. They’ve shared important things like potential visual obstructions and what your view will actually look like. And also less important things, like how likely you are to be battling hundreds of thousands of teenagers with their phones out for the full two-hour concert duration or the potential to breathe the same air as Taylor (a gift).

Regardless of what you end up with, be assured that there are no bad seats at a Taylor Swift show (except for the one next to me). Trust me, I sat on the very last possible row for her Reputation Tour back in 2018 and it was the best time ever.

So read on for the DL on each seating category for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and real-life videos about what kind of view you’ll cop based on where you sit.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour seating map: What will seating look like for Sydney and Melbourne shows?

Despite the MCG and Accor Arena being wildly different venues, all Taylor Swift Eras Tour shows have a pretty similar layout in terms of seats and stage design.

All shows will have your standard stadium seating, as well as some extra floor seats closer to the stage.

There are plenty of opportunities to get up close to Tay as all shows have a little runway stage that goes deep into the crowd. On this runway, there’s a big ol’ diamond, which Taylor spends a lot of time in (as she should — boo needs to be front and centre!).

Reserve seating breakdown: Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour

Great, now we can dive into IRL videos of what your view and experience might look like based on the tickets you buy.

While I’d love to be able to give you seat views based on the reserve class, that’s just not possible as we don’t quite know what seats will be under each category.

For example, A Reserve might mean floor tickets near the stage, but it might also mean front-row tickets in the lower bowl. Similarly, you might assume C Reserve is in the grandstands, but it also might mean an obstructed floor ticket. Ya feel?

With that in mind, we’ve rounded up a bunch of vids that show the Eras Tour experience based on where you’re sitting in the stadium. Please note that it’ll be hard to actually gauge how much these will cost you until we’re actually in the blood bath buying tickets.

We’ve all seen those videos of those people that somehow managed to cop front-row tickets on the floor (black magic, probs). But how do floor seats fare when you’re a couple of rows back?

Uh, pretty damn good. While they might be a toughie if you’re really short or bringing kids, the view here is so good, I’d sell my firstborn for it.

They’re also ideal if you really wanna be in on the action, like this TikToker who managed to get confetti’d into oblivion. Love that for her.

Despite everyone standing in Eras Tours videos, floor seating is allocated, so unfortunately, you won’t be able to smoosh that cute little face of yours to the front row unless you actually have tickets there.

To me, the lower bowl is the blend of all things good. You’re close enough that you feel like you’re in on the action, but being a little bit further away from the floor means there’s slightly less chaos around you.

You also have the benefit of being able to see properly thanks to tiered seating, so it’s a good choice for any shorties out there.

Lower bowl seats mean you can also take in the atmosphere as you’ll usually cop a nice 360 view of everything.

This vid was captured “from the 700’s”, which is a nice way of saying the very, very, very back of the stadium.

As you can see, it’s actually a surprisingly schmick view, proving that all seats are good seats.

Obstructed View

An obstructed view can mean a lot of things. It might mean you’ve got a dirty big pole in your way, or it might mean that you’ve been seated at the last possible seat on the side and don’t get a full view of the stage. For those gearing up to buy ticket’s in today’s drop, this is what you’ll have to make peace with.

In this TikTok, we can see that a person is seated almost next to the stage, resulting in a slightly obstructed view. That said, these seats are still pretty good as you’ve got a full view of the diamond, which Taylor spends a lot of time in.

These kind of seats might be worth it if you want to save a buck, just make sure you check what the obstructed view is.

What are the worst seats in Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour?

There’s a popular phrase going around currently: there are no bad seats at a Taylor Swift concert.

But if you’re really concerned about getting bad seats, it’s probably a good idea to steer clear of any seats with obstructed views. It’s also a pretty good rule of thumb that the more expensive your tickets, the better the seats. So with that logic, you’d probably want to avoid F and G Reserve tickets.

That said, I would happily sell my kidneys for any Eras Tours — even if it’s behind a big, fat pole.

How many songs does Taylor Swift play on the Eras Tour setlist?

The average Taylor Swift concert is around 2 hours long but The Eras Tour is a whole different beast... The concert is a whopping 3 hours and 15 minutes long, and Taylor performs a huge 45 tracks within that timeframe.

Not all the tracks are performed in full, though – some are shortened versions. There's also a couple of additional little interludes that pop up throughout the show.

For context, on the Rep tour, Taylor performed 19 tracks in total, including several mashups that featured some of her older songs. For The 1989 World Tour, she performed 18 songs, while 17 songs were performed on The Red Tour and the Speak Now World Tour.

Taylor has 'reset' the surprise song list, which means anyone attending a show in 2024 can anticipate hearing a song she's already performed. She previously stated that she will only play each surprise song once during the tour, unless she messes one up.

There's also no rules for Taylor repeating songs from Midnights as surprise songs, which means fans may get to hear the likes of 'You're On Your Own Kid' and 'Snow on the Beach' again at some point in the future.

We'll update this article with every Surprise Acoustic Song – and every surprise song that she will play again – after every show.

Will Taylor Swift change the Eras Tour setlist to include The Tortured Poets Department?

Will Taylor Swift change the Eras Tour setlist for the international shows?

As of March 9th 2024, the Eras Tour setlist has remained the same as the U.S. leg. However, with the release of The Tortured Poets Department in April, things could change. More on that further down the page.

Fans attending the European shows might end up hearing Taylor perform 'Castles Crumbling' with Hayley Williams as an additional song during the Speak Now section, as Paramore will be supporting her throughout those tour dates. (Both Phoebe Bridgers and HAIM joined Taylor on stage to perform 'Nothing New' and 'No Body, No Crime' respectively on the nights they were support acts.)

After completing her shows in South America, Australia, Japan and Singapore, Taylor is now set to pick the tour back up in Europe in May 2024 and run through to mid-August, before returning to North America in November 2024.

Will Taylor Swift change the Eras Tour setlist to include The Tortured Poets Department ?

Taylor's brand new album will be released on April 19th, just before she embarks on the European leg of the Eras Tour.

We won't know for sure whether or not the official setlist will change to accommodate those songs until she kicks off the Eras Tour in Paris on May 9th.

It's unclear if she will add a new TTPD section to the tour, but it's looking very likely that Taylor will perform some of those new songs as surprise songs. We'll update this article as soon as we know more!

What are Taylor's most performed songs on tour?

Before she embarked on The Eras Tour, Taylor’s top 3 most performed songs are ‘Love Story’ (491 times), ‘Our Song’ (404 times) and ‘You Belong With Me’ (381 times).

Of course, almost all of Taylor’s most performed songs are from her first two albums. As the list goes on, the Speak Now bops, Red bangers and 1989 hits start to weave their way in.

If you’re wondering what Taylor’s most played songs from her first five albums are, here’s a break down:

  • Taylor Swift : ‘Our Song’, ‘Tim McGraw’ and ‘Picture To Burn’
  • Fearless: ‘Love Story’, ‘You Belong With Me’ and ‘Fifteen’
  • Speak Now : ‘Sparks Fly’, ‘Mean’ and ‘Mine’
  • Red : ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’, ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ and ‘Red’
  • 1989 : ‘Shake It Off’, ‘Blank Space’ and ‘Out of the Woods’

Taylor has only had the chance to perform songs from Reputation on the Reputation Stadium Tour so far, but ‘Ready For It?’, ‘Delicate’ and ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ take the top spots when it comes to live performances of the Rep tracks.

Due to the cancellation of Lover Fest, Taylor hasn’t been able to perform Lover on a tour setting. Folklore, Evermore and Midnights will also be making their tour debut on the Eras Tour.

Travis Kelce Supports Taylor Swift at Her First Eras Tour Show in Sydney — and Rocks Friendship Bracelets!

Swift will perform for four nights, from Feb. 23 to Feb. 26

Brendan Le is an Editorial Intern at PEOPLE with three years of experience working as an editor and writer.

Travis Kelce flew halfway across the world to support Taylor Swift in Sydney for her Eras Tour !

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 34, was first spotted walking through the crowd at his girlfriend’s concert on the first night of her world tour’s stop at the Accor Stadium on Friday.

In a video posted to X (formerly known as Twitter), Swift's fans could be seen screaming as Kelce, who was dressed in a matching blue T-shirt and shorts, clapped and waved as he made his way to his spot to watch the show.

Another video posted on X showed the tight end standing in the VIP tent at the stadium, clapping as the music swelled and the crowd cheered. Kelce — who even wore friendship bracelets, which Swifties have worn and swapped throughout the Eras Tour, on both arms — then smiled as he looked toward the stage. Meanwhile, photographs from the show captured Kelce smiling, waving and appearing to throw a few dance moves as he enjoyed his girlfriend's performance.

Kelce wasn't the only famous face in attendance at Friday's show, with singers Katy Perry and Rita Ora spotted chatting in the crowd as they waited for the show to start. Ora's husband, filmmaker Taika Waititi , also joined the duo.

The pop superstar's first of four nights at the stadium kicked off shortly before 8 p.m. local time following a delay due to adverse weather. "Please note, due to weather, show start time has been delayed," the Accor Stadium shared in a post on X. "Stay undercover until further notice and follow venue screens and staff instructions. Stay safe and remember to be kind to those around you."

According to a post on X, Swift, also 34, addressed the weather as she took to the stage and told the crowd, "We have a little bit of a weather situation, a little bit of rain but I have never known an Aussie crowd that let anything get in the way!"

She later told her fans , “You’re really making me feel like tonight I get to play a sold out show for 81,000 people in Sydney."

Swift's support act, Sabrina Carpenter , was unable to perform her set due to the delay. According to local media outlet ABC , fans had earlier been evacuated due to lightning strikes near the stadium.

PEOPLE confirmed on Wednesday that Kelce would arrive in Australia to attend the Friday show after speculation that the athlete would travel to the land Down Under to see Swift. It’s currently unknown how many shows he plans to see.

The football star’s father Ed Kelce told The Sydney Morning Herald that his son “seemed keen” to fly to Sydney. He added that Travis “said he'd really like to see Sydney and Singapore” but "wasn't sure because he has commitments."

Since going public with their relationship in September , the power couple have shown up for each other on several occasions. During 13 games in the past NFL season, Swift could be spotted cheering for her boyfriend and his team from a suite. At the Super Bowl , after the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers to defend their title, Swift was part of the crowd on the field celebrating with Kelce .

“Thank you for coming, baby,” Travis said in a mic’d moment as he held Swift on the pitch. “Thank you for making it halfway across the world.” The pop star had flown straight to Las Vegas from her last Tokyo show to watch the Chiefs’ overtime victory.

Mike Djordj / SplashNews.com

Back in November, for Swift’s stint in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Travis flew out on a bye week for the “Cruel Summer” singer’s concert. After Swift closed the show, cameras caught her running to embrace and kiss her boyfriend backstage .

As Swift kicks off the 2024 leg of her two-year tour, Travis intends to spend his offseason accompanying her. An insider told PEOPLE that the pair “are making plans for the summer and are excited to travel together in Europe when Taylor takes her tour there."

Getting tickets

On Tuesday last week, I wrote a piece for Guardian Australia about missing out on tickets to the Eras tour. My Swiftie daughter had introduced me to Taylor Swift and we bonded together over her music and at her concerts. 1989 in particular – a groundbreaking record for Swift – had a pivotal role in our lives: it was released just before I was diagnosed with cervical cancer and soundtracked that moment in my family’s life. As I recovered from major surgery, her song Out of the Woods was on repeat.

Reliving those memories with my daughter as we lined up online made missing out all worthwhile. Until something happened that was even better: a member of Taylor Swift’s team read the piece, reached out to my editors and gifted us two tickets to the Sunday night concert in Sydney. “Oh my GOD!!! I cannot believe this is happening,” I wrote in an email, ecstatic. “How is this even happening!!!” We packed our bags to make the long drive to Sydney from Bendigo for the show. It felt unreal – such a generous gift – and the show was incredible. It was so heartening to see all the parents with their young daughters; the mums and dads wearing glitter, getting into the spirit. There was so much love in the stadium that night, not just for Taylor, but also for each other. – Bridget Robertson

The hype before the show

For me, it was all the moments surrounding the concert. Overhearing Irish backpackers talking about how amazing all the Taylor Swift Australia hype is while floating in the ocean near them. Or my sister sending me pictures from her night shifts at the hospital where nurses had made her friendship bracelets. The little girls dressed in sparkles and cowboy hats with 13 written on their hands, running around excitedly outside Accor Stadium, just like I did when I was their age attending my first Swift concert. But oh how everything has changed since then. The Eras tour made the younger me – a diehard Swiftie – feel seen and finally embraced. And that was before the concert even started … – Claire Keenan

Getting ready with friends

A couple of hours before the show, all my friends were crammed into my tiny flat preparing for a three-and-a-half-hour marathon. Two were furiously bejewelling each other’s hair, one was carefully glitter-ifying the 13 he wrote on his hands, while another explained how comfortable her custom-made cowboy boots were. Swift soundtracked all of this. No matter how hard it is to clean up glitter, it was well worth the joy. – Sanjana Jose

Kameron Saunders

Swift isn’t the only star on her stage – her dancer Kameron Saunders was my favourite part of this Australian tour. For each night’s performance of We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, Saunders delivered a different Australianism in place of the iconic “like, ever”. On the first night I attended, he said “Yeah nah”, with “Naur” and “Nah mate” on following nights. Fans rallied on TikTok for Saunders to quote The Castle – and on Sydney’s second night (which I also attended), the scream couldn’t have been louder for his perfectly delivered “Tell him he’s dreamin’!” – Giselle Au-Nhien Nguyen

A three-hour extravaganza entails some difficult questions: when to hydrate? When to take a bathroom break? What to eat to ensure you do not faint into a sea of 80,000 neighbours? These are tough decisions, but please learn from my mistakes and do not, in your haste, ingest a box of stadium calamari. You will be doubled over in pain for the first 120 minutes.

after newsletter promotion

Luckily, 120 minutes is also the time it takes for Taylor Swift to reach the best song in her oeuvre: the lovelorn ballad August (no follow-up questions please). In certain corners, the phrase “salt air” is sufficient to induce an instant frenzy; hearing it caterwauled at ear-splitting decibels on Sunday’s show in Sydney warded away the last of the stomachache like an ancient ritual. The clouds parted; a bird flapped overhead; my skin cleared. – Michael Sun

Running into the riggers

Look, I’m not saying that Taylor Swift fans all look the same, but if you are at one of her shows and amid a sea of glitter you see a row of grizzled blokes in steel-cap boots standing together watching, you’re going to go over and ask who they are. “Are you roadies?” I asked one of these men at her first Melbourne show.

“We’re the riggers!” he replied.

It explained the proud stepdad energy they were all giving off. Given these guys must have set up thousands of stages and watched thousands of shows in their time, I needed to know: was the Taylor Swift spectacle actually as impressive as it seemed to me? “It is fucking amazing mate,” he said. I don’t think Swift could get a better endorsement than that. – Sian Cain

I Decided To Listen To Every Taylor Swift Album After Finally Watching The Eras Tour - And I Think I Have A New Favorite Era

I feel like a born-again Swiftie.

I have a confession: I fell out of love with Taylor Swift for a while.

I know, I know, it seemed that when everyone in the world was starting to fall even more in love with her, the music she made and her life didn’t hit as hard as my early-twenties self. While I heard plenty about Taylor Swift, from her mega Eras Tour to her friendships with Blake Lively or her years-long one with Selena Gomez, I hadn’t properly listened to her music in a long time.

Then, of course, The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) began streaming on Disney+ , and while I hadn’t gotten the chance to see it in theaters, I decided to check it out on my big TV at home and see what I had been missing.

Of course, there were plenty of songs I recognized, all from my earlier days of liking Taylor Swift, but when she got to many of her songs from Folklore, Evermore, and more, I didn’t know them that well. So after I watched the movie, I decided to listen to every Taylor Swift album again—and I’m surprised at which one has become my favorite -- evermore . But before we get to how that came to be, let's rewind a bit...

Taylor Swift singing Shake It Off in The Eras Tour concert film.

Initially, My Favorite Album/Era Of Hers Was 1989

I grew up as a pop girl. My father works in the wedding industry, and at every wedding he performs, pop is the leading music he plays. I grew up constantly listening to the latest pop music.

That usually meant that most Taylor Swift stuff—at least her earlier albums—wasn’t often played in my house. But you want to know what it was? 1989.

Her album, which really cemented her transition to pop, is one that I have distinct memories of and have always loved listening to. Whether blasting “Blank Space” in the car or dancing to “Shake It Off” at school dances, it was my Swift album of choice for a long time.

Red Was Always A Close Second, And Reputation Was In Third

While Red was more country than pop, that was undoubtedly my second favorite era of hers. I loved “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and I used to sing “All Too Well” at the top of my lungs for a very long time. I sang it even more than the 10-minute version (which is one of her best music videos ), but that’s beside the point.

My third favorite era was Reputation. When it first came out, Swift got some backlash for suddenly switching up her vibe and releasing music like “Look What You Made Me Do” and “Ready For It,” but I was eating it up. I adored this new version of her, and I was looking forward to the potential of more albums like this.

But, ashamedly, I fell off a bit afterward and continued to do so until now.

Her Earlier Albums Were Fun To Me, But Not My Favorite Era

You’re probably wondering when I’m going to mention Fearless, Speak Now, or even the O.G. Swift album, Taylor Swift. That’s because I am not the biggest fan.

Again, I grew up with pop blasting in my household, so country was never really a thing. Swift’s earlier albums are certainly a lot more country than anything else.

While there were plenty of great songs from those albums that I did listen to, like “Love Story,” “Our Song,” “You Belong With Me,” and plenty more, they never hit quite as hard as some of her others, which is what leads me to this now.

I Had Never Listened To Evermore – And I Regret Not Doing So

Evermore came out in 2020, a few months after Folklore and a year after Lover. I had listened to Lover and liked the vibe it brought, but it wasn’t an album I replayed repeatedly.

Then, of course, 2020 happened.

Life was turned upside down for a while, and I was more preoccupied with trying to graduate and find a job for a long time. Listening to the new T-Swift albums was not my number one priority.

But I decided to listen to her new albums for a long time after watching The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version). I liked the vibes both gave during the concert, so I thought maybe I would like the albums.

And I genuinely mean this from the bottom of my heart – I wish I had listened to Evermore sooner.

In the next section, I’ll go into detail about what I feel regarding Folklore and Midnights, but this section is for Evermore. I had never felt so seen during an album, so heard. I started listening to it and was instantly transported to another part of the world.

The songs on Evermore are so expertly written that I was shocked at how great they were. I mean, obviously, Taylor Swift is a talented writer when it comes to her lyrics, but I don’t think I was quite expecting the amount of lyrical genius in some of her songs on this album.

There are plenty of songs I could point out, but the one I have to highlight is “Champagne Problems.” I saw the performance of it in the concert film, but listening to it is on another level; hearing about a woman saying no to a proposal because she doesn’t feel ready, she’s not emotionally there to take that next step – it hits so hard, especially as a mid-twenties adult.

Folklore And Midnights Are A Great Representation Of Taylor Now, But Evermore Has Become My Absolute Favorite

I’ll openly say I liked Folklore and Midnights in my rewatching. Both have very different vibes but are written lyrically well and have some great hits. I was still dancing like crazy listening to “Karma” two years after her album came out – and thinking even more about how she changed the lyrics to represent her current relationship with Travis Kelce .

If you love Taylor Swift, here is everything she has coming up.

But there’s just something about Evermore that hits the hardest, and I think I know what it is— Evermore feels like an album that describes a young woman’s twenties. Swift wrote this album when she was barely in her thirties, and it feels like I’m opening someone’s journal and reading their most profound problems, insecurities about life, and so much more.

At the end of the day, despite how magical and whimsical some of the songs felt, they all hit very close to home, as I’m sure they do for many others. It’s an album that was composed during a tough time in our lives that still hits nearly four years later. No matter what, we all have these insecurities, strange feelings, and so much more – and it’s nice to hear someone as big as Taylor Swift speak about them candidly.

I have to say that I am excited for her next album, The Tortured Poet’s Department. While I know all the Swifties are waiting for RepTV , I’m excited for another Era of Swift and what she’s going to bring. And this time, I will not skip any of the albums because I’m a fan, and it’s nice to be back in it after all these years.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour crowd caused earthquake-like tremors. These 5 songs shook SoFi Stadium the most.

By Nicole Brown Chau

Updated on: March 18, 2024 / 6:44 PM EDT / CBS News

Taylor Swift is known to have an energetic fan base, but just how much energy can 70,000 Swifties generate? A group of scientists in California may have an answer based on earthquake-like signals from her Los Angeles Eras Tour concert at SoFi Stadium on Aug. 5, 2023.

After Swift's concerts at Seattle's Lumen Field in July caused seismic activity, a California Institute of Technology research team sought to better understand what causes "concert tremor." The team recorded vibrations from motion sensors it set up near and inside SoFi Stadium as well as regional seismic network stations and was able to detect 43 of the 45 songs Swift performed during her concert.

By calculating the energy radiated during each song at the Los Angeles concert, the Caltech researchers could interpret each as a local magnitude of an earthquake that would have radiated the same energy, according their research article , published in Seismological Research Letters on March 13.

With these calculations, the study found the most energetic signals during these songs:

  • "Shake It Off" with a local magnitude of 0.851
  • "You Belong with Me" with a local magnitude of 0.849
  • "Love Story" with a local magnitude of 0.800
  • "Cruel Summer" with a local magnitude of 0.741
  • "22" with a local magnitude of 0.645

The energy released during each song is over a few minutes, rather than a second in the case of an earthquake, explained Gabrielle Tepp, a staff seismologist at the Caltech Seismological Laboratory who oversaw the study. "So the magnitude calculated from the maximum amplitude of shaking is much lower (about -2)," she told CBS News.

The researchers determined that crowd motion was the primary source of the concert tremor signals, not the speaker system and instruments.

They also analyzed three other concerts at SoFi in the summer of 2023: Morgan Wallen, Metallica and Beyoncé.

"Overall, the results from these concerts are similar to those from the Swift concerts and support the audience-source hypothesis," the research article says. "The (local magnitude) of the songs was in the same range as the Swift concerts, although none matched or exceeded the strongest Swift signal."

Swift's Eras Tour has broken multiple records, including becoming the first to gross over $1 billion , according to Pollstar. Swift is currently on a brief break from shows, with the tour starting again on May 9 in Paris after the release of her eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department , on April 19.
