When is it Best to Visit Abu Dhabi? Your 2024-25 Guide

Is there an ideal time to visit Abu Dhabi? With long, hot summers and mild, inviting winters, November to April is the preferred time for most visitors to Abu Dhabi , the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

This guide looks at what to expect in the different seasons and annual events you may want to plan your visit around.

What to Expect in Winter in Abu Dhabi

What to expect during summer in abu dhabi, is there a best time to visit abu dhabi, common questions about abu dhabi’s weather, religion & religious holidays in abu dhabi, public holidays in abu dhabi, school holidays in abu dhabi.

In the winter, Abu Dhabi is a fun, exciting, and culturally enriching place to visit. There are seasonal outdoor events aplenty and lots of sunshine hours to enjoy with pleasant weather.

January is the coolest point of the year, and the average temperature slowly rises over February .

At the coolest point of the year, you can expect daily maximums to usually reach around a pleasant 23°C (73°F), and overnight lows dip to around 18°C (64°F). It’s cool enough you will probably want a cardigan or pullover in the evenings – you can see our full list of suggested items to pack for Abu Dhabi here .

Sea temperatures can be a little cooler than you may expect, dipping to an average between 20°C to 25°C in winter (70°F to 75°F), a little too chilly for some to take a dip! But rest assured, if you are visiting Abu Dhabi for a resort stay, the pool will most likely be heated.

You know winter has truly hit Abu Dhabi when the Park Market returns to Umm Al Emarat Park , followed by flag day, then the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix leading into National Day in early December. This is followed by a busy winter festivities period and spectacular New Year’s celebrations . Most large public events and al fresco dining happen in the winter through until April .

best season to visit abu dhabi

Whilst summer might not be the ideal time to visit Abu Dhabi, there are still plenty of great reasons to take an Abu Dhabi summer holiday.

Life in Abu Dhabi moves indoors from around the end of May through until mid-October. Having an arid climate in the desert, peak summer daytime temperatures in Abu Dhabi can be as high as 50°C (122°F), though you’ll find the average daytime high is in the low 40s. Overnight, the air temperature in summer doesn’t dip below 30°C.

Be aware that August and September particularly also suffer from humidity , which can make the “feels like” temperature much higher than the reported air temperature.

Visitors to Abu Dhabi in summer should be mindful not only of air temperatures but also sea temperatures, which can rise to 31-35°C mid-summer – not exactly a refreshing ocean dip! You’ll want to check that your accommodation has a temperature-controlled pool.

The great thing about summer in Abu Dhabi, though, is you can take advantage of many great offers on luxury hotels at a fraction of the normal price you’d pay in peak season.

Although there is extreme heat to contend with, it can be managed with careful itinerary planning and a focus on indoor activities in Abu Dhabi – such as exploring the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Qasr Al Watan or the Theme parks of Yas Island .

We would suggest excluding daytime outdoor activities from your agenda and be careful of considering a desert safari from roughly the end of May to early October; even the evenings can be sticky, hot and unpleasant.

By October, the temperatures start to recede, and humidity drops. By November, you are back to the mild and pleasant winter conditions – possibly even occasional rain showers.

Abu Dhabi doesn’t have seasons as such, moving from mild to hot, to very hot to OMG, can it be that hot! Unlike most of the northern hemisphere, Abu Dhabi really only has a short, mild winter, and then summer – spring and autumn are fairly non-existent!

You are better off gauging the best time to visit Abu Dhabi and the UAE on how much heat you can tolerate.

The shoulder seasons of February to April and October to November are best for beach weather.

These are the mean maximum and minimum temperatures you should expect, along with the extreme maximums and minums experienced over the past 17 years.

There are an increasing number of sporting and cultural events that occur in Abu Dhabi that you may also want to consider in planning the timing of your trip to the Middle East.

Does Abu Dhabi get rain?

Yes! It might take you by surprise, but rain is possible over the cooler winter months (or it could stay completely dry!). Over the last ten years, it has rained on average five days of the year.

No need to pack an umbrella just in case. If it does rain, it’s best just to stay put if you can until it passes. It’s unlikely to go on for hours; but note that the roads can flash flood during rain and thunderstorms, and driving becomes chaotic.

Does Abu Dhabi get sandstorms?

Yes! Dust or sand storms are a common occurrence in the UAE. Maybe not the extreme that you see in the movies (looking at you, Mission Impossible!) But nonetheless, there can be a lot of dust in the air.

The problem in most of the UAE is the fine layer of dust that develops pretty much year-round. A hazard of being in the middle of the desert, you will discover pretty quickly why most people don’t hang their washing outside!

Those with severe asthma and other respiratory conditions should keep abreast of the AQI if it’s dusty out.

Does Abu Dhabi get fog?

Yes! The most common atmospheric condition you will encounter after dust is fog. This can cause havoc, particularly in the winter months with the major airports. There’s no way of predicting it in advance, but it’s one of those things you might need to factor into your travel plans if it occurs during your visit.

Normally it burns off by late morning, but it can make overnight and early morning driving hazardous (more so than usual!) and delay planes.

As a Muslim country, as well as following the Gregorian calendar, the Hijri Calendar is observed for religious holidays.

Note: The weekend in Abu Dhabi is now 2.5 days, running from Friday afternoon and through Saturday and Sunday for Government entities, schools and many private businesses. These days are much busier than during the week Monday through Thursday.

The main Religious observances are:

  • The holy month of Ramadan
  • Eid al-Fitr
  • Arafat Day & Eid al-Adha
  • Hijri New Year
  • Mawlid al-Nabi al-Sharif – the Prophet’s birthday

These dates move forward roughly ten days each year compared to the Gregorian calendar. Actual dates are not confirmed until the moon is sighted, and the Government may move the actual dates that the public holiday is observed. These are the predicted dates for the coming year:

The UAE also celebrates/observes:

  • New Year’s Day on 1 January
  • Commemoration Day on 1 December
  • National Day on 2-3 December
You can find our complete guide to public & religious holidays in Abu Dhabi here .

Ramadan in Abu Dhabi

It’s important to observe each year when the Holy Month of Ramadan – the 9th month on the Hijri calendar will occur (the start date changes by approximately ten days on the Gregorian calendar each year). This period of deep religious reflection for Muslims is strictly observed.

Ramadan in 2024 will start approximately 11 March and end 9 April.

The most important thing to observe is fasting, with no eating in public allowed and no public displays of affection, ensuring the modest dress code is strictly followed. It can be a little confusing for visitors to know exactly what to expect.

We wouldn’t advise against visiting at this time, but you will have quite a different experience, joining in with iftar (the evening breaking of the fast) and overnight festivities, including suhoor .

You may also observe that many businesses and attractions are closed during the day and only open in the evening. If you are only in Abu Dhabi for a short stopover , you need to be conscious of this. However, daytime dining rules and opening hour restrictions have changed in recent years.

If you’ve visited the Middle East before during Ramadan, please be aware that things in the UAE are now VERY different than even five years ago; as a tourist, Ramadan will have minimal impact on your plans in Abu Dhabi.

Y ou can read our complete guide to visiting during Ramadan here.

best season to visit abu dhabi

Visitors should be mindful when local school holidays occur in Abu Dhabi. Most Abu Dhabi schools work on a three-term school year from September to December, January to March, and April to June (some Asian curriculum schools run a different calendar year).

School holidays in Abu Dhabi generally occur:

  • Late March to early April
  • Most of July & August
  • Mid-December to early January

Some schools also have mid-term breaks in late October, mid-February and late May.

If you visit at any of the peak school holiday times, expect hotel accommodation to cost more and attractions to be busier, although you will not notice the same extreme crowds in Abu Dhabi as you do in Dubai during peak times. School holidays usually mean more family-friendly activities around town- particularly during winter break.

Seeing attractions earlier in the day, you will always encounter fewer crowds than in the evening; it is very much a stay-up-late and evening culture in Abu Dhabi, even for families.

The vast desert landscapes, quiet beaches, verdant oases, heritage sites, interesting museums and thrilling theme parks of Abu Dhabi  appeal to travelers who are after a deeper cultural experience in the UAE .

In summer, the emirate, like the rest of the UAE, experiences a blistering heat that makes visitors swap outdoor activities for shopping in air-conditioned malls, visiting museums, galleries and indoor theme parks, and eating their way around the city’s exciting food scene. Winter brings the best weather and understandably, the most tourists, driving up hotel prices. The spring and autumn months are ideal for budget travelers who don’t mind some warm days if it means fewer crowds at popular attractions and reasonable accommodation rates.

While Abu Dhabi is a year-round destination thanks to its diverse experiences, here’s a guide to the best times to visit Abu Dhabi and practical tips to plan your itinerary.

An aerial view of mangrove forests in Abu Dhabi

November to March is the best time for perfect weather and outdoor excursions

With comfortable daytime temperatures, beautiful blue skies and breezy evenings, winter in Abu Dhabi makes the warm and humid days of summer feel like a distant memory. The months from November to February are the best time to visit Abu Dhabi, especially if you want to spend time outdoors riding bikes along the Corniche , dining al fresco at beachfront cafes and kayaking in the Eastern Mangrove National Park . In November, expect temperatures between the mid-20°Cs and low 30°Cs (mid-70°Fs to low 80°Fs), with lows falling to the 16°C to 20°C (60 to 68°F) range over the next few months.

During this time, the opportunities are ripe to head to Abu Dhabi’s idyllic desert, whether to stay overnight for activities like stargazing and sandboarding or to simply watch the sunset over the dunes of Rub’ Al Khali (the Empty Quarter). Winter is the perfect time of year to visit Al Ain Oasis and nearby fortresses or enjoy a picnic at Jebel Hafit .

This being the high season, it is also when you’ll find the most crowds and the highest hotel prices. Expect hordes of tourists and tour buses at popular attractions such as Qasr Al Watan and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque . Book hotels at least a month or two in advance, buy skip-the-line tickets where possible and make reservations at popular restaurants.

March to May and mid-October to December are the best times for bright and beautiful beach days

The months from March to May, before the onset of brutally hot summer days, and from mid-October to December, before the ocean turns cold, are perfect if your idea of an Abu Dhabi vacation involves spending hours lounging by a hotel pool or swimming in the clear waters of Abu Dhabi’s beaches, like those on Saadiyat Island .

During these months, the days are bright and sunny minus the oppressive humidity of summer. With temperatures in the mid-20°Cs and low 30°Cs (mid-70°Fs to low 80°Fs) range, it’s warm enough to park yourself in a sun lounger under a parasol, and cool off with dips in the pool at a glamorous beach club or in the ocean.

A family sitting on the top of a giant sand dune in the desert watching the sunset in the Empty Quarter, or Rub al Khali, the world's largest sand desert

March to May and September to October are the best times for budget travelers

For travelers visiting Abu Dhabi on a budget, the months from March to May and September to October offer the combination of decent weather (that allows for outdoor exploration) and relatively fewer crowds compared to the high season from November to February.

While this is not the time for the cheapest hotel rates (that’s something you’ll find in peak summer), prices fall to a comfortable mid-range and are significantly lower than those from November to February. The mild weather in March, April and October means it’s a good time to visit Abu Dhabi on an itinerary that includes experiences such as going on a desert safari, cycling around the Al Ain Oasis or strolling along the Corniche.

May and September are hot and humid, but it’s manageable (depending on who you ask), and the low hotel rates might make this time more suitable for budget travelers. Just remember to stay hydrated during outdoor activities.

November to March is the best time for festivals and events

As the days get cooler in November, Abu Dhabi comes alive with a calendar full of live events, open-air concerts, stand-up comedy shows, musical performances and cultural festivals in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and elsewhere.

In November, over a hundred thousand Formula 1 fans from around the world gather on Yas Island’s Yas Marina Circuit for the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix .

An annual event held in January, Al Dhafra Festival showcases the heritage of the UAE through camel beauty contests, falconry, Arabian horse racing, traditional markets and desert camps. Al Hosn Festival , held over 10 days in the historic Qasr Al Hosn , introduces visitors to Emirati traditions, food and handicrafts.

Winter sees Abu Dhabi host international talents in concerts held at the Etihad Arena and events like Saadiyat Nights  see artists like John Legend, Tom Jones and Sting perform in open-air venues.

In February, pop-culture enthusiasts look forward to the Middle East Film and Comic Con . This weekend-long celebration of all things film, TV, sci-fi, anime, manga, gaming, comics and collectibles involves gaming tournaments, movie screenings and cosplay competitions.

Hotel rates can be slightly higher around the venues for major events, with high occupancy rates expected. So if you plan on attending a festival or event, book your accommodation well in advance.

June to August is the best time to avoid crowds

In the peak summer months from June to August, expect daytime lows of 31–35°C (87–95°F) and highs in the mid-40°Cs (around 105°F), with temperatures in August, the hottest month, reaching up to 47°C (116°F). Due to Abu Dhabi’s coastal location, relative humidity on some days can be over 60%, and occasionally, even higher.

At this time, the hazy views of the city’s skyline and milky skies aren’t particularly beautiful. The harsh heat means it’s not a good time to plan excursions to the desert, and even a short afternoon stroll around the markets of Al Mina or Umm Al Emarat Park will have you frequently reaching for a spot of shade and your bottle of water.

You’ll see few other tourists around and barely any outside of famous sights such as Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Qasr Al Watan. Don’t be surprised to find that you’re the only one wandering under the arched walkways of the Qasr Al Hosn or around the art exhibitions of the Cultural Foundation.

While not many international tourists visit in summer, for residents, life goes on as usual, albeit indoors. Hotel rates are the lowest in June, July and August. If you’re visiting in the summer, plan to spend significant time exploring Abu Dhabi’s indoor attractions. Visit the Louvre Abu Dhabi , Manarat Al Saadiyat , Abrahamic Family House and Ferrari World Abu Dhabi , go shopping at The Galleria Al Maryah Island and enjoy city views over afternoon tea in the posh, air-conditioned Observation Deck at 300 .

Best Times To Visit Abu Dhabi

The best time to visit Abu Dhabi is between April and May or from September to October. The spring and fall shoulder seasons yield pleasant weather, manageable crowds and reasonable hotel rates. For the best weather — not too hot and not to humid — you'll want to visit in the wintertime (December through March). However, this is Abu Dhabi's peak season, with business travelers snagging all the city's cabs and tourists flocking to the beach. If you're looking for the best prices, summer is your season: The city is practically free of tourists, but triple-digit temperatures and smothering humidity will make any time spent outdoors feel gruesome.

Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates, is a vibrant and cosmopolitan destination that offers visitors an unforgettable experience. With its stunning architecture, luxurious resorts, cultural heritage, and thrilling activities, there is no shortage of things to see and do in this remarkable city.

When planning a trip to Abu Dhabi, it is important to consider the best time to visit in order to make the most of your experience. Factors such as weather conditions, peak tourist season, and local events can greatly influence your overall enjoyment. In this article, we will explore the ideal time to visit Abu Dhabi and why.

Weather Conditions

best season to visit abu dhabi

One of the primary considerations when choosing the best time to visit Abu Dhabi is the weather. As the city is located in a desert climate, temperatures can soar during the summer months, often reaching up to 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit). This intense heat can be quite challenging for outdoor activities and exploring the city on foot.

Therefore, the optimal time to visit Abu Dhabi is during the cooler months, which span from November to April. During this period, the average temperature ranges from a comfortable 22 to 30 degrees Celsius (72 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit), making it much more pleasant for outdoor adventures and sightseeing.

Peak Tourist Season

best season to visit abu dhabi

Another factor to consider when deciding the best time to visit Abu Dhabi is the peak tourist season. From October to March, the city experiences an influx of tourists from all around the world. This is mainly due to the favorable weather conditions during these months, where visitors can enjoy the city's attractions without the scorching heat.

During the peak tourist season, Abu Dhabi tends to get crowded, and prices for flights, accommodation, and attractions may rise. Therefore, if you prefer a quieter and more affordable visit, it may be wise to consider traveling during the shoulder seasons, such as April-May or September.

Local Events and Festivals

best season to visit abu dhabi

Abu Dhabi is renowned for its vibrant cultural scene and hosts various events and festivals throughout the year. These festivities provide an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and experience the city's traditions.

One of the most prominent events in Abu Dhabi is the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, held annually in November. This thrilling sporting event attracts motorsport enthusiasts from around the world and offers a unique blend of high-speed races and entertainment.

Additionally, the Abu Dhabi International Jazz Festival in April showcases top international jazz artists, while the Abu Dhabi Festival in March celebrates music, art, and dance performances from local and international talents.

Visiting Abu Dhabi during these events can enhance your trip by providing you with an enriching and immersive cultural experience.

We were in Abu Dhabi + Dubai between the years and enjoyed the travel climate very much. It was pleasantly sunny every day, only in the early morning there was some fog, but at the latest around 10 o’clock it cleared up completely. The day values were in the shade at a mild 24-25 degrees, in the sun 30 degrees were reached. Especially in Abu Dhabi there was a light breeze during our trip, so it never got too hot. All in all a really perfect travel time to escape the winter blues in Germany. Is December / January warm enough for a bath? Basically yes, because the water is usually even warmer than the air. If the wind is not too strong, the temperatures for swimming (in the sea and pool) are even ideal. We liked the stand most on Saadiyat Island, where the new Louvre Abu Dhabi was opened. There is a great public beach and a private beach club (Saadiyat Beach Club), as well as several luxury hotels including St. Regis Abu Dhabi. Simply super!

The weather in mid-November was excellent. Approx. 28 degrees, hardly any wind, no rain – simply perfect.

Abu Dhabi weather and seasons

da Living Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Sky

Abu Dhabi weather makes me euphoric. Perhaps it is that sky, brushed with flashes of turquoise, so beautiful to seem unreal, but, at some point, you lose all sense of the real temperature: even in the hot summer months and in the evenings, when the humidity overcomes you with the smell of sea, and, in the meantime, makes your glasses “fogged”, only beacause you put your nose out of the door.

Abu Dhabi weather : the 3 seasons

My feeling is that the seasons in Abu Dhabi are three:

– The Very Nice Season (mid-October to December) – The Crisp Season (January to March) – The Sizzling Season (late May-early October)

The end of April could be considered the period of transition from Crisp Season to Sizzling Season, while the end of October announces the Very Nice Season.

The Very Nice Season in Abu Dhabi

From mid-October to December, the climate of Abu Dhabi is delicious: average temperatures around 25°-30° or more, and in general it is hot but the heat is tender, “affettuoso” I can say in Italian, as, according to the feeling of many, “seems to wrap you in a hug”. October is my favorite month in Abu Dhabi, from the second half of the month in which it begins the transition to a temperature comparable to that of the late Sicilian spring. Even November in Abu Dhabi is a wonderful month. Not surprisingly, it is the month in which take place the outdoor activities, you can enjoy dinner outside, the city comes alive with festivals and events, such as the fantastic Tropfest Arabia , one of my favourites, with a giant screen and cushions directly on the beach (it’s free). I would say that November would be the perfect month in Abu Dhabi, if it were not that clean water and sea temperatures are often appreciated by jellyfish also. On the beaches, however, there is a sign that indicates the presence of jellifish, if any, and angelic lifeguards, ready to rescue you with a magic spray and a smile.

The Crisp Season in Abu Dhabi

From December to March , Abu Dhabi temperatures are around 23-25°, but in the evening the minimum can precipitate of about ten degrees. During the day, if you want to go to the beach, watch out for the wind sparkling that can make you perceive some degrees less. Even the sea temperature is much cooler and not tolerated by all. The evening is better to have on hand more than a pashmina.

The Sizzling Season in Abu Dhabi

April in Abu Dhabi begins to announce the scorching heat of the hot months, which usually go from May until the first week of October , when the average temperatures are around 30-35° and even surpass 40° in the peak months (July, August and September), with a high humidity . Even at the beginning of October in Abu Dhabi is still very hot, and as in the peak months, it can happen to swim in the sea in search of relief and feel linke a lobster in a court-bouillon .

What is the best time of the year to visit Abu Dhabi?

By planning your trip around the ideal season, you can optimize your Abu Dhabi experience and make the most of all this fascinating city has to offer.

Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, is a popular destination for its beautiful beaches, modern architecture, rich cultural heritage and its many leisure activities. However, to make the most of everything the city has to offer, it is essential to carefully choose in which season you’ll take your trip. The weather can vary considerably throughout the year, and this can influence your travel experience.

What is the best time of the year to travel to Abu Dhabi?

Winter: november to february.

Winter is generally considered the ideal time to visit Abu Dhabi. Temperatures are mild, hovering around 24 and 28 degrees during the day. Even in winter, the weather remains pleasant, letting you enjoy beaches and outdoor activities. Temperatures are cooler than in summer, so you can explore the city and its attractions more comfortably.

Spring: March to May

Spring is another great time to visit Abu Dhabi. Temperatures begin to rise, but remain relatively comfortable. This makes it an ideal time to explore the city without the high season crowds in winter. Another good reason to explore the region between March and May? The desert is in full bloom , offering spectacular scenery.

Summer: June to September

Bringing extreme heat with it, summer is a tougher time to visit Abu Dhabi, as temperatures often exceed 40 degrees Celsius and humidity stays high. But while this makes for uncomfortable outdoor conditions, it’s also a great time to explore the city’s museums, including the fabulous Louvre Abu Dhabi. Located on Saadiyat Island, in the heart of the United Arab Emirates, this exceptional museum evokes both the thousand-year-old heritage of humanity and the boldness of contemporary art.

Autumn: October to November

Autumn is a transitional time in Abu Dhabi. Temperatures start to go down, making it a pleasant time to visit. With cooler temperatures than summertime, but still pleasantly warm, and fewer visitors than during the peak winter season, autumn is ideal. Desert trips, museum visits or walks along the beach – there’s no shortage of things to do during your stay.

Best Time To Visit Abu dhabi

Plan your trip during best season to experience the best of this stunning destination

The best time to visit Abu Dhabi is during the winter season in the months from November to March when the temperature ranges from 25°-32°C. Abu Dhabi sees the highest number of travelers during the months of December to February. There is generally no monsoon season in Abu Dhabi, but the winter season from November to March receives a light amount of rainfall. Located on the shore of the Persian Gulf in the north of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi experiences a hot desert climate. The summer months in this Gulf city are extremely hot, with the mercury constantly reaching the 40s (°C). However, you will not quite get much of a wintry feeling over here, but it is more like the temperature drops to mild ranges from the extreme, and Abu Dhabi weather becomes pleasantly bearable for a vacation.

Abu Dhabi in April

For Abu Dhabi's climate as well as for Abu Dhabi tourism, April is the shoulder season. Abu Dhabi weather in April is still not that hot, and the maximum temperature rise is around 35°-36°C. After the prolific winter season tourism, the prices of hotels and airfares drop significantly during this time, which is another good reason to visit Abu Dhabi now.

Abu Dhabi in June-September

June to September feels like quite the furnace out in the hottest of hot weather. Since the Tropic of Cancer runs through the city, the southern part of Abu Dhabi actually falls in the tropics, and the northern part in the equatorial plane. However, the smoldering hotness is constant throughout, with August being the hottest month of the year. Temperatures reach 45°C constantly, and tourism is almost down to zero.

Abu Dhabi in October

October is a month with a moderately reasonable climate in Abu Dhabi. With the heat gone but the tourism season yet to swing in, this is the best time to steal a cheap holiday to Abu Dhabi without compromising your budget. Mercury level stays around 27°-36°C, and that is definitely a milder situation than the seething summers. This can be the best time to visit Dubai for a holiday which is light on your pockets. Moreover, this is when the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix also takes place in the Yas Marina Circuit, which is one of the biggest events in the country.

Abu Dhabi in November-March

November to March is the best time of the year to visit Abu Dhabi , at least in terms of weather. The temperature finally cools down to the 20s and hovers around 25°-32°C. The temperature in Abu Dhabi in December is the best you can get in the capital city of UAE for a vacation. However, with the pleasant climate comes a heavier crowd, and spiking prices of the peak season and a very, very high demand, which definitely calls for advanced bookings and keeping an eye out for deals.

Best Time to Visit Abu Dhabi for Abu Dhabi Festival: The best time to visit Abu Dhabi for Abu Dhabi Festival is during the month of March. This is one of the most popular festivals to take place in Abu Dhabi and the weather is also quite pleasant during the month of March.

Best Time to Visit Abu Dhabi for the Abu Dhabi Film Festival: October to November is the best time to visit Abu Dhabi for Abu Dhabi Film Festival. This is also an ideal time to grab good deals on accommodation rates but the weather can be a bit hot.

Best Time to Visit Abu Dhabi for Gourmet Abu Dhabi: February is the best time to visit Abu Dhabi to enjoy the festivities of the Gourmet Abu Dhabi Festival. Weather-wise also it is a great time to visit Abu Dhabi.

Climate in Abu dhabi

Summer season in abu dhabi.

Summer is not the best season to visit Abu Dhabi, because it is literally boiling with temperatures hitting as high as 48°-50°C on some days. There is no point in simmering in that kind of heat on a vacation. But there is no doubt that this is the cheapest time to visit Abu Dhabi , and everything from airfare to hotel rates will be dirt cheap compared to the winter season.

Monsoon Season in Abu dhabi

Hot desert climate means there is little to no rainfall all around the year. You will not have to worry about sudden showers, except maybe for a small period in February-March. Instead, there are sandstorms in summer which occur intermittently, and reduce visibility for a few meters. It is advisable to take extra care during summers - carry scarves or sunglasses to protect your eyes and skin.

Winter Season in Abu dhabi

Abu Dhabi weather in December -January is as agreeable as it gets here. Although there is occasional dense fog on some days, overall this time is just the ideal for a visit – bet it for city tours or a beach holiday.

Abu Dhabi enjoys a sunny climate year-round, with high temperatures and humidity. The peak season runs November through March, when daytime highs reach the 80s Fahrenheit. The shoulder seasons offer a great alternative to visit Abu Dhabi. April and May see daytime highs in the 90s, with warm evenings. The heat deters some tourists, meaning sites are less crowded and hotel rates drop. September and October are similarly hot but more humid. Tourist numbers start to pick up again in October.

June through August is low season due to intense heat. Midday temperatures exceed 100°F with high humidity. Some attractions close or operate on reduced hours. However, hotel rates hit annual lows, making it a good time for budget travelers who don't mind the sweltering weather.

Abu Dhabi Travel Tips

Abu Dhabi is a modern, safe, and easy to navigate destination. However, there are still some important travel tips to keep in mind for your visit.

The currency in Abu Dhabi is the UAE Dirham (AED). You can easily use credit cards at most shops and restaurants. However, it's still a good idea to have some cash on hand for tips, taxis, and small independent vendors. ATMs are widely available.

The official language is Arabic but English is very widely spoken. Most signs, menus, and information will be in both Arabic and English. As an English speaker, you will have no issues communicating. Learning a few basic Arabic phrases can be a nice gesture.

Getting Around

Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive. Uber and Careem are also popular options. The public bus system can get you to most major sites. Abu Dhabi offers modern metro and tram services as well. Renting a car is also feasible if you want flexibility. Just be aware of rush hour traffic.

Abu Dhabi is very safe, especially in tourist areas. Violent crime is rare. However, you should still take normal safety precautions as you would in any major city: watch your belongings, don't walk alone at night, etc. As a very conservative place, be respectful of local customs regarding modest dress and public displays of affection.

What is the Best Time to Go to Abu Dhabi?

When many people think of visiting the United Arab Emirates, their first thought is to take a trip to Dubai. But Abu Dhabi is another brilliant destination in the Middle East that is well worth a visit, particularly if you’ve never been to this part of the world before.

The geographical location of Abu Dhabi means that the climate is warm all year round, with blisteringly hot summers and milder winters. Exciting events take place at all times of the year however, so there are positives to visiting almost every month of the year.

If you’ve been wondering what the best time to go to Abu Dhabi is, we’ve put together a month-by-month breakdown that provides all the answers.

Camel Ride Abu Dhabi Desert

Abu Dhabi in January

Abu dhabi weather in january.

January is the coldest month of the year in Abu Dhabi, although average temperatures are still very warm and comfortable. It can get up to 24°C during the month with average lows of around 18°C, so many travellers from the northern hemisphere come to the country at this time to enjoy some winter sun.

The average water temperature is 22°C in January, so many people come to enjoy swimming in the sea along the city’s coast.

As well as being the coldest part of the year, the weather in Abu Dhabi in January is actually some of the wettest that the country sees. However, the rainfall that occurs is pretty minimal with only around 6 days seeing light showers and nothing much more.

What to Do in Abu Dhabi in January

January is part of the peak season for tourism in Abu Dhabi, as many people come to enjoy the cooler temperatures and get away from the winter weather in other parts of the world. It’s one of the most expensive times of the year to come to the city, as hotel, flight and resort prices will be particularly high.

It’s a popular time of the year for a good reason, however, so if you visit in January, one of the best things to do is hit the beach and soak up some sun. It’s also a good time for activities out in the desert, whilst the temperatures aren’t too severe.

Abu Dhabi in February

Abu dhabi weather in february.

The weather stays warm and mild in February in Abu Dhabi, although low temperatures are some of the coldest that the country faces all year.

The average high temperature in Abu Dhabi in February is 25°C during the day, dropping down to an average of 14°C in the evenings and early mornings. Chances of rainfall decrease, with only 3 days seeing any wet weather, and the average sea temperature is a refreshing 21°C.

What to Do in Abu Dhabi in February

February is still part of the high season for tourism in Abu Dhabi, so you can expect the beaches, resorts and hotels along the coast to be packed. It’s a good time to get out and enjoy some of the more active things to do in and around the city whilst the weather is relatively cool, like sightseeing around the Grand Mosque or going quad biking and riding camels in the desert.

Sheikh Zayed Mosque

Abu Dhabi in March

Abu dhabi weather in march.

The temperature in Abu Dhabi in March starts to climb as the cooler weather comes to an end. The average high is around 29°C during the day and usually drops down to 17°C when it’s dark, so you’ll need to pack a lot of cool, light clothing if you come to visit at this time of the year.

The sea around Abu Dhabi is 22°C in March. Chances of rain increase slightly from the previous month, with 5-6 days usually seeing some kind of rainfall.

What to Do in Abu Dhabi in March

March is one of the best times of the year to visit Abu Dhabi. The peak tourist season is coming to an end so busyness is starting to wind down but the weather isn’t too hot yet so you can still enjoy activities like sightseeing and trips into the desert.

It’s a great time of year in particular to visit the Mangrove National Park, which is found on the edge of the city and is home to over 50 beautiful species of bird as well as numerous waterways and mangrove trees. The popular Mother of the Nation Festival is also held in March, celebrating Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak and the work she has done.

Abu Dhabi in April

Abu dhabi weather in april.

As springtime begins in Abu Dhabi the weather starts to get a lot warmer, so it’s unwise to visit the city at this time of year if you’re not very good with intense heat. Whilst the average low temperature during the month is only 20°C, it can get up to 33°C during the day and feel even hotter in the sun.

Rising air temperatures mean the sea gets warmer too, with an average water temperature of 25°C around Abu Dhabi. Humidity is relatively low compared to other times of the year, but it can still feel quite close if the sky is cloudy.

What to Do in Abu Dhabi in April

April is the shoulder season for tourism in Abu Dhabi, so prices for accommodation and travel will start to drop a little and crowds won’t be as big. Because of this reduction in visitors, it’s a great time of the year to come for a beach holiday as the weather is hot and sunny and the beaches won’t be as hectic as they are during peak months.

An event that often takes place in April is the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, one of the most popular cross country rallies in the world, where drivers tackle the brutal desert terrain in a range of vehicles over a vast racecourse.

Louvre Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi in May

Abu dhabi weather in may.

The hot weather really sets in in May in Abu Dhabi, with high temperatures and humidity taking centre stage and almost no chance of rain. It tends to get up to around 38°C during the day which will feel incredibly warm and may be uncomfortable for some travellers, with the average temperature only falling to 23°C at night.

Water temperatures also soar in May, averaging at 29°C which is ideal for swimming and snorkelling.

What to Do in Abu Dhabi in May

May is a relatively quiet month for tourism in Abu Dhabi, so it’s a good time to come if you’re travelling on a budget and don’t mind the heat. On slightly cooler days you may still want to get out and enjoy some of the outdoor activities around the city, but visiting air-conditions museums and galleries to stay cool is also a great way to spend your time.

The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair also often takes place in May, which is the biggest literary event in the area and attracts hundreds of authors from all over the world.

Abu Dhabi in June

Abu dhabi weather in june.

Summer begins in Abu Dhabi in June, with the desert heat really kicking in and some of the hottest, driest weather of the year. The average high temperature is 40°C and only tends to drop down to around 25°C, so there’s no escape from the hot weather unless you’re staying somewhere with really good air conditioning.

The average water temperature in Abu Dhabi in June is 31°C, so you won’t have much luck cooling off by taking a dip in the water during the day!

What to Do in Abu Dhabi in June

June is part of the tourism low season in Abu Dhabi because of the oppressive heat, but if you can stand 40°C temperatures then you’ll find that many hotel and resort prices are half as cheap as they are in the winter months.

If you can handle the heat you’ll be able to really work on your tan whilst spending time on the beach in June in Abu Dhabi, but otherwise, we recommend planning to spend your time in some of the city’s best air-conditioned attractions. The Louvre Abu Dhabi is a popular choice, along with the Qasr al Watan Presidential Palace and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

Beach in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi in July

Abu dhabi weather in july.

The hot summer weather continues through July in Abu Dhabi, with high temperatures of up to 42°C most days. These can drop down to 28°C, but humidity will be high most of the time and with literally no chance of rain, there’s very little respite from the heat.

The sea along the coast of Abu Dhabi has an average temperature of 32°C in July, which is very pleasant for swimming and will feel a little cooler than the air outdoors!

What to Do in Abu Dhabi in July

Because it is the low season for tourism in Abu Dhabi in July, prices for most of the city’s top attractions are significantly reduced which means that you should make the most of visiting places like The Green Planet rainforest biome, the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Ferrari World museum and experience.

When it’s a little cooler in the evenings and early mornings, getting out and enjoying some of the street food and markets or fairs around the city is a great way to spend your trip. It’s worth noting that the Muslim festival of Ramadam usually takes place around June and July, which may affect what is open and what is allowed in public during the day.

Abu Dhabi in August

Abu dhabi weather in august.

August is the last month of intensely hot weather in Abu Dhabi, with temperatures reaching their peak and then starting to slowly dip as September approaches. The average daily temperature is still around 42°C, dropping to around 29°C with quite intense humidity at all times of the day.

There’s still practically no chance of rain in Abu Dhabi in August, and sea temperatures remain a toasty 33°C.

What to Do in Abu Dhabi in August

The low season for tourism extends into August, so you can expect prices for flights, accommodations and attractions to be low across the city. Again, we recommend that you make the most of the air conditioning inside the shopping malls, museums, galleries and other tourist attractions around the city and only spend time outside in the evenings when the sun has set.

Corniche Beach Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi in September

Abu dhabi weather in september.

The heat of the summer starts to slowly ebb in Abu Dhabi in September, although the weather stays very dry and humid. The average high temperature during the month is 40°C, tending to fall to about 26°C in the evening and early morning.

The sea temperature around the coast of the seas stays high at an average of 33°C.

What to Do in Abu Dhabi in September

It’s the shoulder season for tourism in September, so if you come to Abu Dhabi at this time you can expect to see more people visiting than over the summer, and some hotels and resorts starting to raise their prices again.

If you can handle the heat it’s a great time to extend your summer holiday and hit the beach to get that final bit of tan before the winter, or there are plenty of great things to do in the city like visiting significant attractions or enjoying the water and theme parks.

Abu Dhabi in October

Abu dhabi weather in october.

It’s still hot in Abu Dhabi in October but the weather is slightly more bearable than previous months, making it quite a popular time to visit. It usually gets up to 36°C during the day, with the average temperature falling to 22°C at night which is a pleasant relief after the heat of the day.

You should also be aware that dust storms start to take place in Abu Dhabi in October. These don’t always last for too long but can make symptoms worse for those who suffer from allergies and asthma, which is worth bearing in mind before you book a holiday.

What to Do in Abu Dhabi in October

As the last month before the high season for tourism kicks in again in Abu Dhabi, many people come to the city to make the most of the beaches and coastal resorts before they’re totally taken over by visitors from abroad.

Inside Sheikh Zayed Mosque

Abu Dhabi in November

Abu dhabi weather in november.

The temperature in Abu Dhabi in November becomes a lot more manageable, with average highs of around 31°C. This can drop down to 18°C in the early morning and overnight, which provides a pleasant break from the hot sun.

The chance of rain in Abu Dhabi in November is very small, so you don’t need to worry about packing anything other than suitable warm weather clothes. The sea temperature is a very pleasant 28°C, which is ideal for swimming and other watersports.

What to Do in Abu Dhabi in November

It’s the start of the high season for tourism in Abu Dhabi in November, meaning that the beaches and popular attractions are going to start getting packed. If you find a spot on the coast then make the most of it, but it’s also a great time of the year to enjoy trips to the desert or walks through parks and along the promenades by the ocean.

Abu Dhabi in December

Abu dhabi weather in december.

Temperatures in Abu Dhabi in December are much cooler than earlier in the year, which is one of the reasons it’s such a popular time of the year to come to the city. The average high is 26°C and the average low is 15°C, with only 3 days of the month predicted to have any rainfall.

The sea temperature around the coast of Abu Dhabi is 25°C in December, which is brilliant for swimming and snorkelling.

What to Do in Abu Dhabi in December

Spending time on the beach is the most popular pastime for visitors to Abu Dhabi in December, along with enjoying experiences out in the desert and making the most of all the dining experiences on offer across the city.

The real highlight at this time of year however is the Yas Marina Grand Prix . It’s one of the highest anticipated events of the F1 season and attracts fans from all over the world to Abu Dhabi on various Grand Prix packages , and is not to be missed if you’re in the city over the weekend that the race takes place.

Yas Marina Racetrack

Whether you decide to brave the heat over the summer and make the most of the reduced, low season prices, or visit when the weather is cooler and there’s much more to see and do, Abu Dhabi is a brilliant part of the world to come on your travels. It’s a city with its own unique culture and atmosphere that offers a brilliant insight into life in the UAE and is perfect for tourists of all ages thanks to the wide range of different attractions and things to do that are on offer.

I’ve been writing content about travel since I graduated; a job that is continually adding new destinations to my future holiday list! As a reformed anxious traveller, research is an essential part of planning a trip, which is why I love writing guides that help other people discover everything they need to know about a place they’re going to visit. I consider myself a bit of a staycation expert, so I love writing about UK destinations. I’m also a big train travel enthusiast, so if you can get there by rail, I’m going to want to write about it! I’m a photographer as well as a writer, so one of my favourite things to do whilst travelling is to visit art galleries or seek out the best architecture or landscapes in a new destination and document them with my camera. The best place I’ve visited on my travels so far is Barcelona, but I also really enjoyed Amsterdam, Lucerne, and Edinburgh.

Best Time to Visit Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

When planning a trip to Abu Dhabi, the best time to visit is generally between November and April. During these months, the weather is mild and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from cool evenings of around 13°C (55°F) to daytime highs of 23°C (73°F) to 32°C (90°F). The winter season also coincides with the peak tourist period, so visitors will find the city vibrant and full of life. Various cultural events and festivals, such as the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, take place during this time, offering travelers a chance to experience the region's rich culture. Travelers should note that December to February are particularly popular and may require advance booking for accommodations and attractions.

From May to September, the climate becomes extremely hot and less ideal for outdoor activities, with temperatures often exceeding 40°C (104°F). Despite the heat, this off-peak season offers some benefits like lower accommodation rates and fewer crowds at popular tourist spots. For those who don't mind the summer heat, indoor attractions such as shopping malls, museums, and entertainment centers are available and can be quite comfortable thanks to air conditioning. However, it is crucial for visitors to stay hydrated and protect themselves from the sun. Traveling during the Islamic month of Ramadan offers a unique experience, but visitors should be mindful of cultural norms and restrictions on eating and drinking in public during daylight hours. If optimal weather is a priority , the cooler months are undoubtedly the best time to visit Abu Dhabi.

13 amazing natural wonders you can visit in Abu Dhabi

Get these on your bucket list….

Abu Dhabi is a land of beautifully blended contrasts. Of worlds old and new, of deserts, island networks, and lush green oases set against hyper-modern towerscape, and future-tech enhanced infrastructure. Contained within its borders there are many marvels, but often less accessible, it’s the stunning natural ones can easily be overlooked.

This is a guide to some of our favourite Abu Dhabi natural wonders, and where to find them.

Al Mirayr forests

Pic Credit: @wonguy974 via IG

Just a stone skim away from the beautiful Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara ( geolocation here ), you’ll find the arresting sight of a desert forest, known as Al Mirayr. It’s unlikely to be the largest wooded expanse you’ll have clapped eyes on, but with its juxtaposition to the saffron-hued desert sands around it, it might just be one of the most impressive. You’ll need a 4WD enabled vehicle to get there, and if you fancy extending the wadi roaming, there are plenty more exciting sights to explore in the surrounding sand. For more off-the-beaten-track adventures, check out our guide to some of the best off-road trips in Abu Dhabi .

Al Ain Oasis

If you’re looking for green, Al Ain AKA ‘The Garden City’ is a pretty good place to start.  This 1,200-hectare desert oasis is found in the middle of Al Ain and attained UNESCO World Heritage status in 2011. It contains more than 147,000 date palms, trees bearing mangos, oranges, bananas, figs, and jujube. With its whimsical shaded pathways beneath fractal canopies it’s a place that provides a shuddering contrast to the urban jungle of Abu Dhabi’s cityscape. There’s also an Eco-Centre that offers insight into the conservation efforts at the oasis, and a look back at its history.

Al Ain, open daily 9am to 5pm. Tel: (03)  711 8251 , take a virtual tour at  visitabudhabi.ae

Al Wathba Fossil Dunes

The desert areas of the UAE hold many wonders, but few can compare to the ethereal beauty of  Al Wathba’s fossil dunes . These naturally occurring monoliths are jutting, jagged reminders of the emirate’s storied geological past, having been forged over the past 120,000 years. Found a short distance away from the (also well-worth a visit) Al Wathba Wildlife Reserve, an expanse covering more than 1,700 of the fossil dunes has now been designated as a protected landmark. The Al Wathba Fossil Dune Protected Area now features a visitor centre, a viewing area, an amphitheatre and 7kms of hike-able trails with educational signage explaining the origins and cultural significance of these magnificent sand relics.

Al Wathba Wetland Reserve

A popular resting spot for flamingos during autumn and spring, this note-worthy site can be found beside the beautiful Al Wathba fossil dunes. Known as Flamingo City, it is home to various wildlife habitats, including freshwater and saltwater lakes. The area hosts over 250 bird species, and 37 plant species, as well as a plethora of marine life. The wetland is a popular place for bird watching and even offers two self-guided walking routes to explore the area. To keep the area as natural as possible, there are no cafes so be sure to pack in your reusable water bottles as the walking routes are quite long.

ead.gov.ae, visitabudhabi.ae

Desert Lakes

There’s a bit of a catch with this pair of entries… Their location is a trade secret (and, well, the second one probably isn’t ‘natural’ is it?). Both images were captured (well before the current drone ban) by the incredibly talented, intrepid photographer, @amarhabeeb . He’s responsible for the discovery of another lisiting a bit further down, but these finds starkly represent what can happen when you follow that pioneer nomad spirit and explore the desert for hidden wonders. Safely of course, it can be an inhospitable place without modern luxuries. If you’re heading out to the wilds, tell someone, go accompanied, go prepared, take more fuel, water and food than you need, and remember there is currently a ban in place for all non authorised drone flights.

Jebel Hafit

Part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jebel Hafit is Abu Dhabi’s tallest peak, located in Al Ain, and about 90 minutes’ drive from the capital city. There is a campground that offers tented accommodation and pitches for those that wish to bring their own canvas and poles. You can also rent traditional Bedouin-inspired tents; bubble tents — equipped with panoramic windows that are just perfect for star-gazing; and luxury dome tents which come with AC, a TV and, excitingly a telescope. Prices start from Dhs650. Holiday-makers come here to hike, mountain bike (rental available), dune buggy, ride horses and camels and enjoy the rare fresh air (and lack of light pollution) that contributes to the perfect conditions for astronomy. Wonders above wonders below.

You can book your stay now here or by calling (03) 711 8362.

Jebel Hafit Beehive Tombs

Situated at the foothills of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ancient tombs mark the beginning of the Bronze Age in the Middle East. 5,000-year-old structures and evidence of ceramic vessels and copper artifacts were found here, indicating the importance of maritime trade across the Arabian Gulf even then. You can visit the park’s majestic natural surroundings on a mountain bike, horse, or camel. Discover archaeological and historical remains that tell stories of this unique area’s ancient habitation.

Mangrove Forests

ubail Mangrove Park opened in January 2020 , offering visitors the opportunity to explore one of this region’s most fascinating natural ecosystems. Found nestled on a quiet outcrop of Jubail Island — the mangroves became an instant hit with locals, residents and tourists. It features a meandering 2.3km boardwalk and sits about 20 minutes drive from Downtown Abu Dhabi. Park inhabitants include herons, flamingos, turtles, gazelle, crabs, as well as some more mysterious creatures. There’s plenty of ways to explore this fascinating turquoise expanse including ranger-led, guided boardwalk (from Dhs50), kayak (Dhs100), and e-canoe tours (from Dhs80) of the mangroves.

Jubail Mangrove Park, Al Jubail Island (next to Saadiyat Island), Abu Dhabi, 8am to 7.30pm daily, Dhs15 for adult, Dhs10. Tel: (05) 63032423.  park.jubailisland.ae

Liwa Oasis and Tal More’eb

Found at the northern edge of Rub’ Al Khali (the Empty Quarter), Liwa Oasis is the ancestral home of the Nahyan family and the Bani Yas tribe. The Liwa Oasis area marks out a 100km stretch of desert, where the dark green of date trees cuts a stark contrast against the amber desert sands. It’s all possible thanks to an elevated water table, close to the surface. There are walled areas, reconstructed forts and watch towers and a collection of truly gigantic dunes, including Tal More’eb , at 300 metres high it’s one of the world’s largest.

Found at the eastern edge of Al Jubail Island, close to Zeera Island and across the water from Khor Laffan, this fluvial feature found amongst the mangroves was given the name ‘Plant Lake’ by the individual that discovered it — Abu Dhabi-based photographer, Amar Habeeb (Insta handle: @amarhabeeb ). The stunning depth of green is no Photoshop trickery, it really is that lucid. When the beguiling natural feature popped up on the digital viewfinder of his drone remote, Habeeb recalls immediately thinking “Emerald Green. I couldn’t believe my eyes”. As mentioned above, the private use of drones is currently prohibited in Abu Dhabi, so you’re unlikely to be able to replicate this epic shot any time soon.

Saadiyat Reef

The emirate’s coral reefs are currently subject to a massive rehabilitation project, supervised by the Environment Agency — Abu Dhabi (EAD). Even with the effort in full swing, there are a number of dive sites across the Abu Dhabi archipelago that offer safe and legal access to coral reefs. You can find multiple dive companies offering chartered trips out to locations such as Philippe’s Reef and Saadiyat Reef (weather and numbers permitting), with prices from around Dhs300 for snorkelling and Dhs500-600 for scuba activities. Whilst the variety and vibrancy of the reef’s colour might not match those found in some other more famous dive spots in the world, the marine life you’ll find navigating them, is truly mask-misting. Turtles, for example, are not an uncommon sight.

Abu Dhabi’s  Salt Lakes  took Instagram by storm last year. Bloggers, influencers and the naturally curious headed out to their location near Al Wathba Wildlife Reserve, to capture snaps with the narrow pastel green lakes filled with crystalline lily pad features. You can find the exact location on  Google Maps , but getting there isn’t easy. Take an SUV, take snacks and back up supplies, tell someone where you are going, do not litter, and make sure you’re all fuelled up. We promise it’s worth it.

Shuweihat Island

This beautifully unique island is surrounded by red rocks and erosion-carved cliffs, with pristine beaches. Unfortunately due to littering and mistreatment, making landfall on the island is currently prohibited for the public. However if you do make the trip, you can enjoy the view from a distance.

10-team event will be held in the capital from April 21 to May 7 at Zayed Cricket Stadium

Abu Dhabi: Ten teams will be competing in the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup qualifiers that will be held in Abu Dhabi from April 21 to May 7 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) and Emirates Cricket Council announced there will be 32 matches and the top two teams will earn a place at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in Bangladesh in September and October this year. The 2022 equivalent was also played out at Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub, with Bangladesh and Ireland going on to secure qualification.

The teams include hosts UAE, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uganda, US, Vanuatu and Zimbabwe.

This year, the two groups of five teams will play double-header games at the Zayed Cricket Stadium and Tolerance Oval.

Matt Boucher, CEO of Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub, said: “It is always a privilege to host ICC events and we are thrilled to welcome the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier 2024 back to our venue. The event in 2022 was an undeniable success and the quality of cricket on display was incredible.

“At Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub, we place great importance on the development of women’s sport both in and out of the UAE. We believe that if you can see it, you can be it — and these tournaments have the potential to inspire young girls and women all over the world. Both ourselves and Abu Dhabi Sports Council take this responsibility seriously and we’re excited to deliver yet another thrilling tournament across our venue,” he added.

New tournaments

The news follows the announcement of two new tournaments launched by Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub, which also saw its Tolerance Oval host its first Test match where Ireland made history by beating Afghanistan in the longest format at the start of the month.

Both the inaugural seasons for the Abu Dhabi Women’s T20 and Abu Dhabi Counties Super Cup brought teams to the UAE capital from the UK. The women’s tournament featured The Blaze and the South East Stars, with the former lifting the trophy after winning the three-match series 2-1. Six county sides then contested the Abu Dhabi Counties Super Cup, where Yorkshire beat Nottinghamshire in the final.

Abu Dhabi side competed alongside Yorkshire, Notts, Warwickshire, Somerset and Essex, ensuring that all members of the visiting squads got matches and that top local talent were provided an opportunity to compete against the best players in country cricket.

The women’s tournament has also laid out plans to feature the UAE National team in future additions and the first season of both these tournaments was broadcast all over the world to a global audience.
