When it comes to location, being 20 seconds away from the Central Station in any city is pretty dang sweet. So that’s partly why Babel Hostel is the overall best hostel in Wroclaw 2024. Another reason is that the staff are helpful. And then we could add to that the fact that the main sights of Wroclaw are an easy walk away. This is also a top hostel because the team here are genuinely kind and helpful. Inside, it’s pretty cute. It won’t win any design awards, maybe, but this overall best hostel in Wroclaw is set in a historic house, it’s clean, and moreover: it’s warm and welcoming. Makes all the diff.

Grampa’s Hostel – Best Hostel for Solo Travellers in Wroclaw

Bright, colourful and functional, the weirdly named Grampa’s Hostel (seriously, why?) is a great place if you’re travelling alone. There’s a huge living room here which is great for meeting other travellers and socialising – presumably that’s the reason (we hope) that you’re by yourself. Other than that, the beds are comfy, they offer all backpacker essentials (towel, earplugs, etc.) and they also take you out on pub crawls, which as we all know are great opportunities to make friends and then forget all about it. But seriously, this Wroclaw backpackers hostel is a great shout for all you  solo backpackers. AND it’s cheap.

Hostel Wratislava – Best Cheap Hostel in Wroclaw #1

Modern and cosy, if a little basic, this is probably the best bet for a budget hostel in Wroclaw. Yep, Hostel Wratislava is set over multiple floors of a restored 19th-century townhouse which is definitely cool if you like that sort of thing. What’s also pretty cool is the location: just a 10 min walk from this Wroclaw backpackers hostel to Central Station and Market Square, two pretty obvious hotspots in town. Other than that, free travel services, a cheap (not free) breakfast on offer, cheerful staff, ensuite bathrooms and other delights make this place a right bargain.

Beautiful. That’s what the best hostel for couples in Wroclaw is: b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. The rooms at Mlecznaria Hostel feel like they’re something out of a period drama, all the wooden furniture and floors and simple, traditional opulence really makes it feel like a special place to stay. And that’s what you want as a couple, right? Somewhere to remember? Hark back to when you’re however old? Scary… But really this top hostel in Wroclaw is great. Think old-fashioned and also think charming and you’ll be close to picturing Mlecznaria Hostel.

Absynt Hostel – Best Party Hostel in Wroclaw

If you’re a hassle-free traveller, this is the perfect place to stay: basic rooms, but bright and nicely decorated, decent facilities, but a little noisy and located near to a lot of nightlife spots (fine for some), the ominously named Absynt Hostel isn’t the in-house party hostel you’d expect it to be from the name. But the location sort of  does make it the best party hostel in Wroclaw, and it is quite busy, though mainly with locals, so there is some sort of lively atmosphere at least. Clean and a PRIME location for experiencing and enjoying Wroclaw nightlife , if you can stand the noise then you’ll love staying at this youth hostel in Wroclaw.

Moon Hostel – Best Hostel with a Private Room in Wroclaw

Moon Hostel, what the-? No, we don’t know why it’s called ‘Moon’ Hostel. What we do know is that this is a strong choice for the best hostel with a private room in Wroclaw. It’s modern, it’s ‘like a hotel’, it’s slick, clean, great location, and the private rooms at this recommended hostel in Wroclaw each come with a TV – if that’s interesting for you. Elsewhere there’s free tea and coffee which is great for budgeteers, plus there’s a common room where you can meet fellow travellers. But if you’re looking for a comfy place to lay your head in a private room, Moon Hostel (why is it called that?) is your best bet.

The One – Best Cheap Hostel in Wroclaw #2

Enigmatically named The One is a recommended hostel in Wroclaw mainly due to its location. You literally (actually literally) walk out of the door and – boom! You’re in the famous Market Square of Wroclaw. Now, for location, this is easily the best hostel in Wroclaw. If being within a couple of steps from historic sights is your deal, anyway. The inside of The One is pretty cool, too: wood-panelled rooms and a pretty lavish-feeling dining room, all wrapped up in a townhouse dating back to the 14th century. Unfortunately, it’s not exactly renovated, which is where The One falls down (not literally), though for location and ‘character’ – top marks.

The One  is one of our favourites in Wroclaw but they’re not taking guests right now. We’re not sure if they’re closed for good but we hope they’ll come back soon.

Bemma – Best Hostel for Digital Nomads in Wroclaw

Dunno what Bemma means but we do know that Bemma is stylish AF. Parquet floors, bright yet cosy spaces, plastered walls, like a perfect mix of traditional and Insta-friendly minimalist chic. It’s the best hostel for digital nomads in Wroclaw, being as clean and cool as it is. There’s WiFi in the common areas and all the rooms, meaning you can chill in bed and do your admin without having to haul yourself to a table just to answer an email. Oh and on top of that, it’s fairtrade, eco-friendly and caters for vegans and vegetarians – win-win if you’re all those.

Cute: that’s how we’d describe this youth hostel in Wroclaw. It’s set in a historic 19th-century building and it’s got a traditional dining room with Polish-style decor. The rooms are simple here, but – like we said – cute… and clean. And cheap. You’re also pretty near a tram stop here and it’s not far at all for walking expeditions into the historic centre of Wroclaw . In fact, it’s on the doorstep. So yeah, with its cute, chintzy feel you’ll feel at home – in a, uh, homely way. Oh, it also offers a (cheap not free) buffet breakfast. And the team that works here are majorly helpful, so that’s a plus.

Friends Hostel

Yikes! Dorm beds at Friends Hostel are pricey! But this Wroclaw backpackers hostel looks the part, the dorms have wooden bunks with drawers, and all throughout the place, there are murals daubed on the walls and stuff like that. Generally, the decor is pretty cool. We like that. There are a load of pubs and restaurants and all sorts very nearby since the Market Square and other Wroclaw attractions are also a stone’s throw from the hostel. But though it’s called Friends Hostel, the atmosphere isn’t all that. However, it’s clean and has good facilities. Just a bit expensive.

Nie dość, ze hostel jest wyposażony w pralkę to również w suszarkę, więc można coś wyprać na szybko, bo nigdy nie ma miejsca, aby móc ubrania wysuszyć. Duża ilość herbatek do dyspozycji. W erze miejsc, które robią wszystko najniższym kosztem fajnie jest odwiedzić miejsce, które zostało zrobione z sercem i pełnym zaangażowaniem! Serdecznie polecam. Będę wracać, a już teraz polecać!

Cathedral Island & Other Islands – Best Off-the-Beaten-Path Wroclaw Neighbourhood

Did you know that Wroclaw has at least 112 bridges throughout the city? There are only two European cities with more, Venice and Amsterdam. And they have a much longer canal network. The reason behind this excessive number is that Wroclaw is a city with several islands.

The main ones are Piasek Island (Sand Island), Daliowa Island (Dahlia Island), Tamka Island, Mlynska Island (Mill Island), Bielarska Island (Bleachers Island), Słodowa Island (Malt Island). Kepa Mieszczanska is the largest Island.

They all sit in Wroclaw’s River Oder north of Old Town and South of Nadodrze. Cathedral Island, though not technically an island, has this name because multiple imposing churches are situated in this incredibly small neighbourhood.

You can reach it by crossing the Sand Bridge and the Tumski Bridge which are tourist attractions in their own right. There aren’t tons to do on these islands but the larger ones have some bars and restaurants. Malt Island is essentially one big park and they all offer lovely views across the water.

There aren’t many hotels on these islands which is why they’re unusual places to stay. But if you can find an apartment or hotel, Wroclaw Old Town is only a few minutes south if you’re walking so you’d be staying in an excellent location.

Nadodrze – Where To Stay in Wroclaw on a Budget

Just north of the Islands and the River Oder is the Nadodrze neighbourhood. This district is only growing more and more popular with travellers as it has everything young people are looking for these days.

It boasts rows of grand 19th-century townhouses and courtyards, lots of huge street art murals, craft cocktail bars, and delicious bakeries. And because it’s not directly next to Old Town, accommodation prices aren’t sky-high which makes it ideal if you want to know where to stay in Wroclaw on a budget.

You won’t find any of Wroclaw’s top landmarks here which is a blessing or a curse depending on your point of view. But you will find nice parks where you can sit and read or enjoy a picnic.

Olbin – Where to Stay in Wroclaw to Live Like a Local

Olbin is an up-and-coming neighbourhood to the east of Nadodrze and to the north of Grunwald. It’s a huge, residential district characterised by its Soviet-era apartment buildings, small parks on every block, and amenities you’d want as a local.

While you won’t stumble across many pierogi-serving milk bars, you will find Asian supermarkets, kebab shops, and sushi restaurants.

Olbin is nipping at its cool, older brother’s ankles because it also boasts tons of phenomenal street art murals that stretch across the side of its tall buildings.

You can already see independent cafes like Slodki Chlopak popping up and there are some interesting churches to visit too. There are few hotels in this neighbourhood but plenty of apartments to rent. Opt for one in an old Soviet building to experience what it’s really like for locals to live here!

Poludnie – Where To Stay in Wroclaw With Family

South of Wroclaw Old Town and even further south of the Four Temple District is Poludnie. Despite it sounding quite far from the city centre, it’s actually only 10 minutes away if you’re walking.

This sprawling neighbourhood encompasses Wroclaw’s main train station and all the main bus, train, and tram connections should you want to travel elsewhere in Poland.

Żerniki – Where to Stay Near Wroclaw Airport 

Have an early flight or a quick layover? Wroclaw is only a bus ride away from the city’s international airport a few kilometres west of the city. If you’d rather stay around here than in Wroclaw Centrum, choose the Zerniki district. It has a train station and is directly next to the airport.

There isn’t much to do in this neighbourhood but it does have a park, a mall, and a few supermarkets. And though there aren’t many options, you’ll still find a hostel, a large chain hotel, and one or two guesthouses in this district.

Overall, Wroclaw is a very safe city with low levels of crime. Pickpocketing is the largest concern for most tourists and even then it’s not as rampant as it is in larger capital cities on the continent.

The rise in far-right politics has led to growing tensions directed at the LGBTQ+ community but there are no specific Wroclaw neighbourhoods that are inherently more dangerous than others.

Przedmieście Oławskie, a neighbourhood east of Wroclaw Centrum and south of the River Oder, was historically a dangerous neighbourhood. Throughout the latter half of the 20th century, the city’s low-income residents lived in tenement houses, and crime rates were significantly higher than in other areas.

Today, this is no longer the case and crime rates are average but you might want to stay in a different neighbourhood to be on the safe side.

Szczepin is a large, residential neighbourhood west of Wroclaw Old Town. It’s not unsafe but you might want to avoid staying here simply because it’s far away from Wroclaw’s main attractions and has few bars and restaurants.

It is also nowhere near as beautiful and vibrant as other residential neighbourhoods in the city. There are few hotels in this area anyway but you might be disappointed if you accidentally booked an apartment here.
