Version 5.15.16

The eclipse has passed. The sun has incinerated the last remaining snowflakes of Canada’s winter. Which means Montreal’s super cyclists have escaped from their exercise-bike-equipped basements and taken back the smooth tarmac of Circuit Gilles Villeneuve from the F1 racecars. Sometimes we ride down on our fixed gear bikes to watch the roadies pedal in circles for hours and hours in their skintight suits, like they’re training to be the prettiest horse at the Kentucky Derby. Back home at Transit HQ, we’ve made the usual spring cleaning adjustments, and more: - We’ve added bikeshare fare info to the app (in select cities, more to come) so you can see how much a ride on those metal tanks will run you - New iOS emojis have been christened and added to our GO nickname generator - Real-time data for nearby lines should now load a picosecond or two faster (by prioritizing downloads for visible lines first, and then downloading real-time for ones further away as you scroll down the list of lines) - Other bug fixes and aerodynamic improvements Rate us five stars to put Sriracha in the roadies’ bike bottles for extra motivation.

Transit Fares & Passes

Nested applications, content - transit - fares.

Kingston Transit offers an active, environmentally friendly, cost-effective and convenient alternative to travelling by car – especially if you buy passes or multiple bus rides at once. Fare payment methods include cash and electronic smart card transit passes.

Children 14 can travel with Kingston Transit free of charge and do not require a bus pass or ID to travel with an adult. Children 14 and under are to advise the bus operator of their age prior to boarding. Questions and concerns can be directed to customer service at 613-546-0000.

*Transit fares are exempt from HST

Passengers can transfer between routes for free with any fare payment option chosen. Transfers are valid going in one continuous direction from origin to destination within 60 minutes from time of issue.

Riders paying with coins must request a printed paper transfer from the Bus Operator when boarding the bus. When boarding the next bus with the transfer, riders must scan the bar code on the printed transfer at the fare box which validates the transfer. Please retain your transfer if you need to travel on multiple buses to arrive at your destination. The transfer can be used only by the person to whom it was issued.

Riders using electronic disposable or reloadable smart cards need only to scan their cards at the fare box when boarding. Transfers are automatically stored on the smart cards. The smart technology will identify that you boarded another bus and will not charge your card for another ride.

When paying by cash, exact fare is required for depositing into the fare boxes. Only coins are accepted. Operators do not carry change.

Kingston Transit offers a variety of fare products to help riders save money.

Multi-Ride passes

Available for purchase on disposable and reloadable smart cards. Sold in multiples of six rides at a time, the Multi-Ride pass offers the added convenience of not having to search for change to pay your bus fare.

For your convenience, you may reload your multi-ride pass online . Credit and debit cards are accepted.

Commuter passes

Available on disposable smart cards in two formats.

  • Commuter Pass - 5 consecutive weekdays (Monday to Friday) – unlimited rides per weekday;
  • Commuter Pass – weekly - 7 consecutive days - unlimited rides on 7-consecutive days including weekends

For your convenience, you may reload your commuter pass online . Credit and debit cards are accepted.

Monthly passes

The most economical for frequent riders and are available in two formats:

  • Commuter Pass - monthly weekday – unlimited rides during weekdays in a calendar month; and
  • Monthly Pass – unlimited rides during a calendar month.

For your convenience, you may reload your monthly pass online . Credit and debit cards are accepted.

Benefits of the reloadable transit pass:

  • Stores all transfers on your smart card, eliminating the need for paper transfers.
  • There is an initial fee of $3 for each reloadable card. The reloadable card can be registered with rider's contact information. If lost or stolen, the reloadable card can be deactivated and the value left on that card can be transferred to a new card. A replacement fee of $3 applies. Complete the Transit Registration form (available online and at all outlet locations) and submit at any sales outlet location.

Where to Buy

Multi-ride, monthly & day passes.

Accepted methods of payment: Cash, credit and debit (unless otherwise denoted).
