Review of Dreams Onyx Punta Cana Resort & Spa (2024)

Looking for an all-inclusive resort for your trip to Punta Cana? See what we loved (and weren’t crazy about) during our family vacation to Dreams Onyx Punta Cana.

We stayed at Dreams Onyx Punta Cana in November 2021. There were 11 people in our group, including my husband and 1-year-old son, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law, and their 3 kids ages 10, 8, and 5. My husband’s single brother and parents also came on the trip.

So we had a wide variety of ages and interests to account for when we were looking for a resort. We did a lot of research before booking and finally decided that Dreams Onyx Punta Cana (formerly called Now Onyx Punta Cana) seemed like a good fit for everyone.

I am in no way associated with Dreams Onyx Punta Cana. We just want to share our experience in hopes that it will help you to decide if this resort is right for you. 🙂

I broke up our overall experience into categories so you can know what to expect for each aspect of your stay.

We will go over location and travel, restaurants and food, rooms, pools, beach, esthetic, entertainment, and service. 

How to Successfully Prepare for a Beach Vacation with Toddlers or Babies

Location & Travel

This was our second visit to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Our last visit was in July 2018 for our honeymoon. We love Punta Cana. It is absolutely beautiful, and we had perfect weather during both of our stays.

We live in Iowa, so we left from the Cedar Rapids airport, had a short layover in Charlotte, NC, and then a 3-hour flight to Punta Cana.

Our arrival to Punta Cana through customs was very smooth and quick. We got to skip lines because we had a small child, which we were grateful for after a long day of travel!

We used E-Transfers Punta Cana to shuttle from the airport to our resort. Dreams Onyx Punta Cana is about a 45-minute drive from the airport. I was impressed by E-transfers and would use them again.

The ride was $90 USD round-trip, and you can choose to pay the total amount after the ride to the resort or split it and pay half on the way there and the other half on the way back to the airport. We chose the latter.

Prices vary based on how far your resort is from the airport.

Some of the driving can be a bit scary in Punta Cana compared to what we are used to in the United States, but our E-Transfers drivers were cautious, and we felt very safe.

We only had 3 passengers in our van, but our other family members were able to squeeze 8 passengers in their van.

We did not bring a car seat and just held our son on our lap. Probably not the safest choice, but it is allowed there if you feel comfortable with it.

Dreams Onyx Restaurants & Food

When you get to the resort, there is a QR code you can scan to access their app. I wasn’t able to download the app for some reason, possibly because I was using free Wi-Fi and was on airplane mode, but I was still able to access everything from a web browser.

All of the restaurant menus are accessed through QR codes and can be found on the app.

Each of the restaurants had high chairs for us to use for our 1-year-old. Kids can also order things off-menu if needed. The menus are pretty limited, so the kids in our group often ordered fruit, pizza, or chicken nuggets, all of which were not listed on the menu.

Breakfast Options

• Coco Cafe Coffee Shop – We loved trying different coffee drinks that we wouldn’t normally have at home. They had a variety of hot and iced options, as well as fresh fruit cups, baked goods, and sandwiches.
• Carnival Buffet – (Open 7 AM – 10:45 AM) We ate here most mornings. They offer a wide variety of foods and are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You grab your own food and find a table in the covered outdoor area where you are served drinks. We thought the breakfast was pretty good here but weren’t too impressed by lunch or dinner. I would definitely recommend going to the other restaurants rather than the buffet for dinner.
• 24-Hour Room Service  – The room service breakfast was really tasty, and we had a great experience with it. The menu can be accessed from the app or from the TV in your room. We always ordered before 8 AM and it came within 30 minutes. However, some of our other family members tried ordering closer to 9 AM, and it took over an hour to arrive.

Lunch Options

• Barefoot Grill – Burgers, hot dogs, chicken, french fries, fruit, and more can be found at this hut by the beach. We did this most days for lunch so that we could spend as much time as possible at the beach and pool. (Open 12:30-6 PM)
• Room Service – menu accessed from app or TV in your room
• Carnival Buffet (Open 12:30- 3:30)

Dinner Options

• Bluewater Grill Steakhouse – (Open 6 PM-10:45 PM). The app says this opens at 6:30 PM, but it opened at 6 PM while we were there and filled up right away. The ribeye steak here was amazing and we enjoyed the appetizers too.

• Capers Italian Restaurant – (Open 6 PM-10:45 PM) We ate here twice. I loved the lasagna. My husband enjoyed the Shrimp and Mushroom Spaghetti. He thought it tasted more like Thai sauce than alfredo, but it was still good. Our son loved the spaghetti and meatballs, and our nephews enjoyed the pizza.
• Cin Cin Meditteranean – (Open 6 PM-11 PM) We did not eat here.
• Mecure French Restaurant – (Open 6 PM-11 PM) We did not eat here.
• Spice Asian – (Open 6 PM-11 PM) This is the only restaurant that requires a reservation. We were not able to eat here because the only reservation we could get was at 9:00 PM which was too late for our 1-year-old. However, the rest of our family went and loved the experience and the food! I would recommend trying to make a reservation soon after you arrive.

• Tamarindo Mexican – (Open 6 PM-11 PM) We really enjoyed the food here as well. This restaurant is kind of hidden away from the others behind the buffet near the beach. Because of this, we were able to get right in here to eat when the other restaurants had long waits. We enjoyed the appetizers, fajitas, and churros for dessert.

Trying Octopus at Tamarindo Mexican Restaurant

• On A Roll Burger Bar – (Open 3 PM-11 PM) A variety of burgers, hot dogs, and fries. Good for an afternoon pick-me-up, quick dinner, or late-night snack.
• Sundaez Ice Cream Parlor (Open 12 PM – 11 PM) – They offer ice cream, sundaes, and shakes. I wasn’t a big fan of the ice cream. I wasn’t a big fan of any of the desserts here other than the churros.

Dreams Onyx Rooms

The rooms were clean, updated, and functional. We had a garden view room on the second floor near the main lobby building.

Our room had a king bed, couch, coffee table, two desks, refrigerator (daily refreshed mini-bar), TV, large vanity area, separate toilet area, walk-in shower area, and a large closet with a safe.

The room did not have any steps down to the living area or balcony, which was ideal for our busy 1-year-old. We were really happy to be on the second floor because our balcony was closed in and was a perfect place for our son to crawl around and play. The balcony also had a large jetted tub.

Dreams Onyx Pools

The outdoor pools were the real selling point of this resort for us. We loved all of the pools and were happy with the variety of options.

We spent the majority of our time on the trip at the main pool area and the water park.

In addition to the main pools and the waterpark, there was also an adults-only pool for those who paid for the preferential status upgrade. We did not visit that pool, as we had kids with us and did not pay for the upgrade.

Main Pool Area

The Dreams Onyx main pool area has a large pool connected to a swim-up bar, a beautiful see-through infinity pool, a hot tub, and a little saltwater pool that is perfect for when you are all sandy coming back from the beach.

This main pool area also had volleyball and daily activities and events.

The main pool area was connected to another pool by long narrow connecting pools that went right next to some of the bottom floor rooms.

There was also a very shallow pool in the main pool area that was perfect for the young kids in our group.

The waterpark was amazing! We have been to 3 all-inclusive resorts, but this was the first that had water slides and a lazy river, and it was so much fun for the whole family!

There were 4 slides, but only 3 were open while we were there. The open slides included a calm white open slide, an intense white drop slide, and a twisty black tube slide.

My nephew who was 10 at the time was able to go on all of the slides except the drop slide, but my 8-year-old nephew was only able to go on the smaller, less intense white slide. There were different height requirements for each of the slides.

As you walk up the stairs to get on the slides, you will notice a fun little jacuzzi pool up above the lazy river and main pool area. This jacuzzi pool wasn’t very hot, but it has nice views and the overflow from it creates a waterfall below.

The best part of the waterpark in my opinion was the lazy river. There are single and double tubes that could be used for floating both in the lazy river and in the main pool area.

The only downfall of the lazy river was that it has some very powerful waterfalls. The waterfalls extend across the width of the lazy river making it impossible to casually float with a drink. We also had to shield our baby’s head whenever we went through because the waterfalls were quite forceful.

The main pool area in the waterpark has a stage. There is music playing and performers most afternoons. The main pool area also has a great swim-up bar and some seating in the water.

All of the pool areas had beach chairs to lounge on. Depending on where you want to post up for the day, it can be helpful to get to the pool before 9 or 10 to secure a spot. The main pool area closest to the beach seemed to be busier than anywhere else.

Dreams Onyx Punta Cana Beach

The last time we visited Punta Cana in July 2018 (we stayed at Majestic Colonial), workers were clearing seaweed from the beach multiple times per day, and we were surrounded by seaweed in the water while swimming. There were also a lot of rocks on the bottom of the seafloor that we kept smoking our toes on. Despite these issues, we still had an awesome time!

The beach at Dreams Onyx has significantly less seaweed (could have been the time of year) and there were no rocks on the beach or the seafloor.

The waves were good-sized – too big for little kids to swim in, but a total blast for older kids and adults. The younger kids in our group had fun dipping their toes in and playing in the sand.

There were many beach chairs and palm trees that provided shade. However, the chairs filled up quickly during the main part of the day.

I loved having the option to be in the shade under the palm trees.

Overall, we were impressed with the beach and found it beautiful! We spent more time at the pools though because of the young kids in our group.

Resort Aesthetic

The grounds and landscaping of the resort are beautiful and well-maintained.

We were super impressed by the attention to detail and cleanliness of the whole resort.

The landscaping is gorgeous and has a fun tropical jungle feel.

Dreams Onyx Entertainment

The pools and beach were plenty of entertainment for us, but the resort also had a designated entertainment team that put on events during the day and evening.

There were daily activities in the pool like water aerobics and volleyball. There was also beach volleyball and other fun events and activities on the beach during the day.

We never played, but this life-size chess board looked fun!

There is a kid’s club on the resort. It looked like there were a lot of really fun activities, but a lot of it was gated off and only available to use if you dropped your kids off there with the staff.

Even though some of it was gated off, we went around 7 p.m. one night with our kids and were able to access a fun little game room and the basketball courts.

There was live music and entertainment for kids many of the evenings we were there near the lobby by the theater area.

Each night there was a nightly show at 9:30 PM. That was too late for our baby to stay up, so we took turns going to the shows. We saw a Dominican music performance, a Madonna show, a fire show on the beach, and a music trivia night. The shows were pretty good, and they were good at getting the audience involved.

We had a family member participating in the music trivia show, so it was extra entertaining!

Service at Dreams Onyx Punta Cana

Overall, we felt well taken care of, and most of the staff was very kind and friendly. Our room was cleaned often and the resort was very clean and well-maintained.

When we ordered room service or ate at restaurants, there was often a wait, especially if we were trying to eat at popular times. I would recommend trying to eat breakfast early and get to the restaurants right when they open if you want to avoid a significant wait.

The front desk staff was not very friendly or helpful, in our opinion.

The worst part of the trip was dealing with the required covid test that we needed to travel home. The system they had in place for signing up for a test and getting the test was incredibly unorganized and required waiting in line for over an hour both to sign up and to get the test. We are American, but the Canadians on the resort had to get a different test, and they had to wait much longer than we did.

Despite these downfalls, overall, the majority of the staff was very friendly and helpful. I am guessing that if you are in the preferred club you would get more attentive, individualized service.

Final Thoughts

We had an amazing vacation at Dreams Onyx Punta Cana. The rooms were nice, the resort was beautiful, and the food was good. The pools and beach were perfect for our family. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

While there were a few drawbacks, the pros strongly outweighed the cons. We would recommend Dreams Onyx Punta Cana to all, especially to those looking for a family-friendly vacation!

If I had not gone on this trip with kids, I probably would have looked more into the Preferred Club or possibly the adults-only Breathless Punta Cana Resort, which is a sister resort to Dreams Onyx.

We love the Dominican Republic and will be back! However, we love to see new places and have new experiences, so we would likely choose another city and resort next time we visit!

Tripadvisor traveler rating, beautiful resort franklin made it extra special.

We stayed here for 5 days to celebrate my son’s high school graduation. We liked having breathless next door to add some liveliness when wanted. Our room at dreams was great & you couldn’t hear a peep! The steakhouse, hibachi, burger place in lobby and food by the beach were fantastic! I’d skip the buffet whenever possible though 😉. The beaches were stunning, pools were pristine and all the bartenders were attentive and friendly! Staying preferred is the way to go! The adult only preferred pool is very relaxing. You also get to eat breakfast & lunch at preferred restaurants attached to buffet with a set menu. Breakfast menu isn’t really different than what’s on buffet so we skipped but lunch menu is different & WAY better than the food on the lunch buffet. The best part about staying preferred is you get a butler to help make your stay the best it can be. Our butler was Franklin and we absolutely loved him! He checked in everyday, made us reservations for dinner, rescued us on a golf cart when my 6’2” ginormous son had too much to drink 😝, and had an extra special surprise to celebrate my son’s graduation the last night of dinner. (Flaming congratulations cake with staff singing!) It was so comforting knowing we had a specific person there to text if we needed something! He’s the best!

2nd Visit, Will Return

We recently spent 7 days at this resort April 19-26, travelling with my wife and 12 year old son. It was our 2nd time and hope to return again. Travelled with Air Canada and unfortunately were delayed 6 hours. Used Mike Fisher for private transfer and as usual excellent service and waiting for us when we exited the airport despite being 6 hours late landing. Arrived at the resort around 7pm. Not sure if it was the time of night we arrived but there was not the usual welcoming party. In the past we were welcomed with a cool towel and “welcome home” but there was only 1 bellman working and our driver actually had to ask him to come over and take our bags. Very minor but after travelling all day the cool towel and welcome drink is a nice touch we missed. Also, once we checked in, we had to take our own bags to our room as there was only 1 bellman and he said he couldn’t leave the front area. Again, not a deal breaker as we knew where we were going from previous visit. Staff: There are some real wonderful staff at this resort who really aim to make your vacation something special. These hard working people work 10-12 hours/day for 12 days in a row. They work hard and deserve our tips. Overall most staff are very friendly and the bad apples are few and far between. A few special staff I would like to take the time to mention made our vacation very special. Firstly, Juan in the Italian restaurant and preferred breakfast area is truly a special person. We had met him 2 years ago when we first visited and he remembered our son when he first saw us. He is so very genuine and we already miss him. It is people like him that make us want to return to this resort. Eliphet who worked the pool area serving drinks gave us tremendous service all week and always went out of his way to say hello and engage with us to get to know our family. Jenny at the pool area also serves drinks and is so friendly and never stopped. Would also like to thank Nelson, Wester and Noelvys at the pool bar. Funny guys and always had smiles on their faces. Enjoyed chatting with them daily. Service was tremendous. Thanks to Domingo at the lobby bar for the great Amaretto Sours. Best ones ever! Lastly thanks to Benerito at the breakfast buffet for always keeping the coffee flowing. Cups were never empty. Our vacation wouldn’t have been what it was without these great, hard working people. Check in: quick and easy. Marcos was professional and easy to deal with. We had booked a junior swim up room (non-preferred) and prior to arrival had requested a room looking into the interior of the resort. We were placed in a room on the backside of the building overlooking the construction. We asked if it was possible to move and Marcos said that if we came back the next day at 5pm we could change rooms. Went back the next day and everything was arranged and we were able to move with no issue. Room: our first room was on the backside of the building overlooking the construction. The room was clean and the swim up was very private. The noise from the construction wasn’t noticeable, we just prefer the interior swim up rooms. Our second rooms was clean, no musty smell and no issues. It did not have a pull out couch so I went to the front desk to request a roll away bed. Unfortunately the team member working the front desk had zero interest in helping. Just said none available and went back to using his cell phone. This was one of the few staff we came across that didn’t hold the high standard of customer service we are accustomed to at Dreams. I then went to the concierge to make the same request and they had the bed delivered to our room within 5 minutes. They even followed up with a phone call to ask if we got it. Grounds: the grounds are amazing. It is such a Beautiful resort and the staff work tirelessly to maintain it. Pools are clean, and I’m not sure where the complaints come from being too cold but they were perfect for us. Water park and lazy river are so much fun and is a nice perk of this resort. The ocean is not calm but we love that. Our family enjoys playing and swimming in the big waves. You can get boogie boards for an hour from the water sports booth. Highly recommend. Restaurants/Bars: We ate at Blue Water grill, The French restarting twice, Italian twice, Mexican and Asian. All the food we had was delicious. Never left hungry. Service was very good at all the restaurants except for the Asian. We did not do the hibachi table but service was certainly lacking for whatever reason. We never waited more than 30 minutes to get into a restaurant. We usually went around 730. We just got a drink at the Prelude bar while waiting. We ate at the buffet for breakfast and there is tons of variety and enjoyed it every morning. For lunch we would either eat at the beach grill, the burger bar or the taco truck. Burger bar and taco truck don’t open until 3 but the tacos are worth the wait. Delicious. Overall drinks were very good at all the bars. Particularly liked Prelude Bar in the evening or the Sports Bar or Lobby Bar. We didn’t find the drinks watered down at all like some people were saying. The sports bar in the evening before dinner was fun to have a game of pool. Thales and cues aren’t in the best shape but still fun. Overall, this is a tremendous resort. We have been to multiple resorts in the Dominican, Mexico and Jamaica and we feel this has been our favourite family resort.

Blown away!

Just arriving home from a family vacation (wedding), I'm already looking as to when I can book my next trip to Dreams. This is my third time to Dreams (twice to Cancun and now Punta Cana). I got married at the Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa 7 years ago and we were pleasently surprised that we received the same experience at this resort. From the quality of service, who were very attentive and friendly. There was not a day that went by that we were not greeted by a hello, afternoon or good night. From the amazing food/selection/quanity was outstanding. We had dinner at the buffet the first night and we were extremely surprised. It's the type of buffet you could eat at every night. We haven't experienced a buffet like this one. With a group of close to 30 people, everyone had a GREAT relaxing experience and can't wait to visit again!!

This was our second time at this resort. It was wonderful again even with them telling us they were 97 percent capacity! Juanito was our butler and we cannot say enough about him again. It’s worth every penny to go prefer and to have Juanito. He is just so beyond kind and literally gets every single thing done. We stayed in building 7 which we love and this time requested 2 floor and near the gym… not because we wanted to go to the gym just because the location is great. Last year we were complete opposite side on 4 th floor. It was a ways especially going to the room with kids. Juanito was so great, from getting our dinners planned to fixing air conditioner one day to changing times our room was cleaned. And just coming to see us with his warm smile! The prefer beach… the waitress and the bartenders are amazing. Angel was so great everyday getting our chairs for us. The prefer lounges… every bartender was so great, kind and so sweet. Anything I can help with please ask. We feel we know the resort pretty good now. I just never met so many kind, genuine people. Even our kids noticed how kind everyone is.. there’s a reason they call you their family. We really leave and feel like we are family. The kids and us all say we miss Juanito!!❤️

Great Service and Clean

My husband and I visited Dreams Onyx from April 22-28, 2024. We have visited AI in Mexico, Cuba and the DR. By far, Dreams Onyx has the most attentive service at the bars and restaurants. Housekeeping kept our room clean daily. The resort is spotless; always someone cleaning. The buffet is kept immaculate. I must give a shout out to Nelis at the preferred pool. She was funny, personable, helpful and thoughtful. Always had a smile and suggestions for drinks! She ensured our days at the Preferred Pool were memorable; it was so enjoyable to get to know her. She truly is a lovely person and we are so happy to have met her. P.S. Nelis: Papi 'killed' Mami at backgammon :(

  1 DAY /  ARRIVAL IN MOSCOW

Free time in the city, although if you arrive in the morning we can organise an excursion on this day.

2 DAY / MOSCOW - CITY TOUR - KREMLIN

• Red Square – one of the most famous squares in the world, famous for St Basil’s Cathedral which is one of the most recognisable symbols of Russia.
• Lenin’s Mausoleum – where the body of Vladimir Lenin, the leader of the World Proletariat, still lies, embalmed in a glass box.
• GUM – a famous shopping centre located on Red Square.
• Aleksandrovsky Gardens – gardens which run along the northern wall of the Kremlin.
• Lubyanka KGB Building – an impressive building once home to the KGB; it is now the headquarters of the Federal Security Bureau.
• Zaryadye Park - a unique park built where the massive Soviet-Style Hotel Rossia once stood. It contains representations of various natural landscapes found in Russia.
• Christ the Saviour Cathedral – the largest place of worship in Russia, it was rebuilt in the 1990s after the original was destroyed on the orders of Stalin.
• Ulitsa Arbat – a popular pedestrian street which has souvenir shops and many bars and restaurants.

• Moscow Kremlin - you will go inside the famous fortress which is now home to the Russian president and will see the Tsar Canon, Tsar Bell and go inside the Kremlin’s cathedrals.
• Moscow Metro – you will go to the most beautiful stations of the metro system which is often said to be the most beautiful in the world.

5 DAY / VLADIMIR - SUZDAL

Arrival in Vladimir and transfer to the starting point of the excursion. 

• Dormition Cathedral - the main cathedral of the city. For over 200 years this cathedral held the revered Our Lady of Vladimir Icon, which Prince Andrey Bogolyubsky brought from Vyshgorod in Ukraine to Vladimir. The icon was later transferred to Moscow and can now be seen in the Tretyakov Gallery. According to legend, the icon was created by Luke the Evangelist.
• Golden Gates - a rare monument of Russian 12th century defensive architecture and all that remains of the walls which once surrounded Vladimir.
• St Demetrius’ Cathedral - one of the most remarkable monuments of mediaeval Rus. It was built in the 1190s as a palace temple of Grand Prince Vsevolod the Big Nest of Vladimir and is decorated on the outside with engravings of plants and animals, while the interior still retains fragments of frescos by Andrey Rublev.

6 DAY / SUZDAL 

• Suzdal Kremlin - this is the oldest part and historical core of the city. Although the kremlin's walls no longer stand, parts of the earthen mound fortifications do remain. The buildings inside the kremlin are now used as museums.
• Nativity Cathedral (1222) – the kremlin’s cathedral is the Nativity Cathedral and the current version stands on the place of an 11th century version which was built on the orders of Vladimir Monomakh. The interior features stunning frescos as well as a necropolis where the sons of Yury Dolgoruky have been interred along with several members of various noble families from Suzdal.
• Spaso-Yefimiev Monastery (1352) – this is the largest monastery in Suzdal and with its large fortified walls it is often mistaken for being the Suzdal Kremlin. Today it is a museum with various exhibitions including its main cathedral with its amazing frescos.
• Museum of the Wooden Architecture and Peasant life – this collection of wooden buildings, including churches and windmills, from various parts of European Russia is one of the best of architectural museums in Russia. It now resembles a village in itself made up of beautiful examples of 17th - 19th century wooden buildings which have been brought here to protect them from fire or from being dismantled.
• Trading Rows (1812) – Suzdal’s set of trading rows are still used for their original purpose and a souvenir market is held outside where you can buy a whole range of souvenirs, including bottles of the mead for which Suzdal is famed.

During the transfer you will pass through the territory known as Opolye where the landscape is not at all typical for the north-eastern part of European Russia and characterised by its open fields and wide open spaces.

7 DAY / ROSTOV VELIKY

• Rostov Kremlin  – the former residence of the metropolitan of the Rostov Eparchy which is called a kremlin due to its large, fortified walls which were built more to look impressive rather than to provide a defensive function. The white stone kremlin is a monument of pre-Petrine Russian architecture.
• Dormition Cathedral  – the main cathedral in the kremlin which dates from the 16th century and was modelled of the Dormition Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin. It is 60 metres in height. Next to the cathedral is a belfry containing 15 unique bells, whose sound is widely celebrated across Russia.
• Museum of Rostov Finift  – Rostov finift enamel painting has been a famous local handicraft since the 18th century. This museum has over 3000 examples on display.
• Spaso-Yakovlevsky Monastery  – Rostov’s Spaso-Yakovlevsky Monastery was founded in approximately 1390 by Bishop Jacob (Yakov) of Rostov, after whom it is now named. After the Kremlin it is the most beautiful sight in the city with its eclectic Conception of Anna Church and St Jacob of Rostov's Church.

8 DAY / YAROSLAVL

• Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery  – one of the largest, richest and best fortified monasteries of the 16th century. It is closely associated with the volunteer army of Minin and Pozharsky which was based here while it prepared to liberate Moscow from the Poles in the early 17th century. Inside the monastery is the Transfiguration Cathedral which is the oldest surviving building in Yaroslavl and was built on the site of an even older church between 1506 and 1516. It interior is decorated with spectacular frescos. To protect these unique frescos it can only be visited between May and October.
• Volga Embankment  - this embankment running along the River Volga is one of the prettiest places in Yaroslavl and several historical churches and other buildings are located here. From here you can enjoy great views of the largest river in Europe. 
• St Elijah the Prophet’s Church  (17th Century) - this church is a masterpiece of ancient Russian architecture which is stunningly beautiful on the outside and on the inside thanks to its detailed frescos and amazing iconostasis. To protect these unique frescos it can only be visited between May and October.

9 DAY / ARRIVAL IN ST PETERSBURG 

10 DAY / CITY TOUR - HERMITAGE - PETER AND PAUL FORTRESS

• Our Lady of Kazan Cathedral - one of the city's most famous landmarks with its instantly recognisable semi-circular colonnade with 96 columns.
• Peter the Great Monument (The Bronze Horseman) - the most famous monument in St Petersburg and one of its most recognisable symbols. It was a gift from Catherine the Great to the city.
• Field of Mars - a memorial field where many revolutionaries were buried and also where the first eternal flame in Russia was ignited.
• Rostral columns  - symbols of the city which were used as lighthouses up until 1885.
• Guided Tour of the  Peter and Paul Fortress – the original point of foundation of St Petersburg which later served as a prison for political prisoners. Its cathedral is the resting place for almost all Russian monarchs after Peter the Great. 
• Guided Tour of the State Hermitage - one of the most famous art galleries in the world which receives over 3.5 million visitors a year. It is located inside the Winter Palace which was once the official residence of the Russian emperors and empresses. Many of the palace's 365 rooms are filled with sculptures and paintings of world-renowned artists of all ages, although quite often the interiors of the palace outshine even these masterpieces. It is said that if you stand next to each of the exhibits or pictures for a minute, it will take eight years of your life to see everything. Our guide though knows shortcuts and will take you to the must-see exhibitions and rooms so you won’t need to stay there that long!

11 DAY / SAVIOUR CATHEDRAL - CATHERINE PALACE

• The collection of mosaics of this cathedral is one of the largest in Europe. The mosaics cover the whole interior of the cathedral, and the production of these masterpieces delayed the completion of the cathedral by ten years! Famous Russian masters - Vasnetsov, Nesterov, Belyaev, Kharlamov, Zhuravlev, Ryabushkin - took part in the work. Even the iconostasis features mosaics .
• Pushkin (formerly known as Tsarskoe Selo) is located in 25km from St Petersburg. The Catherine Palace here is among the top five most beautiful palaces in Russia and its Amber Room is often called as the most beautiful palace hall in the world. About 100kg of gold was used to decorate the palace .

12 DAY | DEPARTURE 

• The tour is available the whole year round starting on any day, but please take into account that the museum’s working hours and days-off vary so we reserve the right to change the itinerary while trying to save the excursion programme.
• Optional excursions should be booked before the start of the tour to schedule the itinerary.
• Transportation in Moscow, where travel by metro is designated, can be changed to a car upon request, but please note that the transport situation in Moscow is not very good, so you could get stuck in a traffic jam.
• Tickets to museums cannot be sold without an excursion with a guide.
• During state holidays and celebrations, Red Square may be closed (either partially blocked off or completely closed).
• The price of the tour may be increased during the period of the White Nights (11JUN-10JUL) and when the International Economic Forum (end of May or beginning of June) is being held in St Petersburg. Please check the price when booking.
• In cities of the Golden Ring where there are no 4 or 5-star hotels, the cost includes hotels of 3 or 4 stars.
• All excursions/guided tours included in the itinerary are private which means private guides and private transport along with the programme - unless otherwise stated.
• Best time to travel on this route: from the end of April to mid-October and from December to mid-March.
