3 – Dua When Visiting A Place For First Time:

Many times, it happens that we travel to a place for the first time, and in our hearts lie many apprehensions associated with the journey. Students travel to different lands for their higher studies, people travel for their jobs knowing as less as nothing about their job environment. Fear of new place and anxiety of meeting new people is very natural in these circumstances. Well, putting trust in Allah and showing to Him that we are nothing without His aid and help is what this dua reflects.  For secure and safe traveling this dua certainly is very useful and one of the easier ones. One may also recite this dua when We want to be Successful in our plans. For more days on success, you may follow this link.

Prophet (saww) said:

The Prophet (saww) said: When a man goes out of his house and recites the following will be said to him at that time: “You are guided, defended and protected.” The devils will go far from him and another devil will say: How can you deal with a man who has been guided, defended, and protected?

Reported by Abu Dawood (5095) and Al-Tirmidhi (3462); classified as Saheeh by al-Albaani in Sahih Abi Dawood.

1 – The Prophet’s Traveling Dua:

Abdullah bin ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) has reported that when the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) set out for a journey and mounted on his camel, he would recite the following dua:

Travel Duas - 6 Islamic Duas To Recite When Traveling

Translation :

Glory be to the One Who has placed this (transport) at our service and we ourselves would not have been capable of that, and to our, Lord is our final destiny. O Allah, we ask You for righteousness and piety in this journey of ours, and we ask You for deeds which please You. O Allah, facilitate our journey and let us cover its distance quickly. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor (the One Who guards them in a person’s absence) over the family. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the difficulties of travel, from having a change of heart and from being in a bad predicament, and I seek refuge with You from an ill-fated outcome with regard to wealth and family. – (Narrated by Muslim, 1342)

Can you see, how beautifully Allah has guided His men in every aspect of life? Can you see why Islam is seen as a code of life? It is because of these minute precisions Allah has given to us! The one who has created us has formulated basic codes so that we are not left alone anywhere, and we remind ourselves that Allah is present nearest to us and takes care of our journey. We just need to work on the ethics of travel. We need to recite the days telling Allah that we only put our trust in Him.

Q. Should You Pray Before Traveling?

A. Yes, it is highly recommended to say 2 raka’at nafal prayers before you start your journey. As the Prophet PBUH said:

“When you leave your house, perform two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evils. When you return home, perform another two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evils.”

Similarly, when you come back home after the journey, you should again say 2 raka’at prayer to thank Allah.

Q. Are Duas Accepted When Traveling?

A. The Prophet PBUH has told us about certain times of the day or certain instances in life when the chances of acceptance of prayer are very high. One of these times is when a Muslim is traveling. So if your trip and your dua are both for a good reason, remember Allah during the journey and He will surely remember you.

As the Prophet PBUH said:

Three supplications will not be rejected (by Allah (SWT)), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the one who is fasting, and the supplication of the traveler. [al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi – Sahih]

Travellers Dua Accepted

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: “Three supplications are accepted, there is no doubt in them (about them being accepted): The supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of his father against his son.”

Dua when Starting a Journey on a Plane, Car, or Any Mode of Transport

Importance of dua for travell.

In the Sunnah, there are several Adhkaar that it is mustahabb for the one who wants to travel to say. It was reported by ‘Abd-Allaah ibn’ Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Apostle of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went up on his camel to go on a journey say takbeer three He then said, “Subhaan allathi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrineen wa inna ila rabbi the munqaliboon. Allaahumma inna nas’aluka fi safarina haadha al-birra wa’l-taqwa wa min al-‘aml ma tarda, Allaahumma hawwin alayna safarana haadha watwi ‘anna bu’dahu. Allaahumma anta al-Saahib fi’l-safar wa’l-Khaleefah fi’l-ahl. Allaahumma inni a’oodhu bika min wa’tha ‘al-safar wa ka’aabat al-manzar wa su’ al-munqalib fi’l-maali wa’l-ahl (Glory to him who placed it (transport) in our service and ourselves would not have been able to do so, and to our Lord is our ultimate destiny O Allah, we ask you for righteousness and piety in our journey, and we ask you for acts that please you. facilitate our journey and let us cover his distance quickly O Allah, you are the companion of the journey and the Successor (the one who keeps them in case of absence) on the family O Allah, I seek refuge from you the difficulties travel, change of heart and bad situation, and I seek a refuge from You for an unfortunate result with regard to wealth and family). “And when he comes back, he would say the same words, with the following addition:” Aayiboona taa’iboona ‘aabidoona li rabbina haamidoon (return, repentance, farewell and praising our Lord). Narrated by Muslim (1342).

Dua For Travelling Salafi

The expression “wa ma kunna lahu muqrineen (and we ourselves would not be able to do so)” means: we would not have been able to control it and use it, if Allah had not put it to our service “Difficulties of travel” means difficulties, “Change of heart” means changes caused by grief and similar events: “unfortunate outcome” means on the return See Sharh al-Nawawi, ala Muslim (9/111) We do not know if there is a specific dua in the Sunnah to protect a traveler until he returns safe and sound to his family, but if the traveler recites the Adhkaar regularly morning and evening and asks to Allah to protect him rings and says the dua ‘to travel which is quoted above, then we hope that Allah will answer his prayer and protect him and bring him back safely to his family, unless Allah wills in his wisdom to test His slave, in which case nothing can deliver the decree of Allah.

Dua For Travelling Abroad

What he should remember when he wants to leave his home – to travel or for other purposes – and that he hopes that Allah will protect him, is the reported story of Anas ibn Maalik (may Allah be pleased with him) from him), according to which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever says – that is to say, when he leaves his house – Bismillaah, tawakkaltu ‘ala Allah, wa laa hawla wa laa quwwata illa Billaah (In the name of Allah, I trust Allah, there is neither power nor strength except with Allah) “, he will be told: you are caught in charge, you are protected and guided, the demons will move away from you him, and a devil says: What can you do with a man who has been guided, cared for and protected? Reported by Abu Dawood (5095) and Al-Tirmidhi (3462); classified as Saheeh by al-Albaani in Sahih Abi Dawood. In Awn al-Ma’bood (13/297), it is written: “So, it is said”, it is an angel who cried to him: O slave of Allah. “You have been guided”, that is, “on the way to the truth”, “you have been cared for” means that your worries are taken care of.

Dua For Travelling

Traveling is a frequent part of life for many individuals, be it for leisure, business, or fulfilling religious obligations like Hajj or Umrah. Despite its commonality, the uncertainties that can accompany travel are ever-present. In such moments, it’s crucial to remember the significance of dua and the profound impact it can have in ensuring safe and secure journeys.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the importance of dua in all aspects of life, including travelling. It is narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said; “Three supplications are answered without a doubt: The supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of the parent for his son.” This hadith highlights the special status of the dua made by a traveler and the certainty of its acceptance.

When embarking on a journey, it is essential to remember the guidance provided by the Sunnah regarding dua for travelling. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught specific supplications to be recited before and during the journey to seek the protection and blessings of Allah.

One such dua for travelling is as follows:

Arabic: سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ. Transliteration: Subhana-alladhi sakh-khara la-na hadha wa ma kunna la-hu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbi-na la munqalibun. Translation: “Glory unto Him who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord we shall return.”

This powerful dua encompasses the traveler’s plea for protection, guidance, and ease during their journey. It reflects the humility and reliance on Allah that is ingrained in the practice of dua in Islam. Reciting this dua before setting out on a journey is a way to seek Allah’s protection and blessings, and to acknowledge that all matters of safety and well-being are in His hands.

In addition to the above dua, it is also recommended to recite specific prayers for the safety and success of the journey. For example, seeking Allah’s protection from the difficulties of travel, from finding family and property in a bad state, and from the harms of the people at home. It is a reminder to travelers to place their trust in Allah and seek His help in every step of their journey.

The dua for traveling transcends mere ritual; it’s a profound expression of faith and devotion. It serves as a heartfelt plea for Allah’s protection, guidance, and blessings, acknowledging His ultimate authority over all aspects of life. Following the Sunnah guidance and reciting the specific dua for traveling instills a sense of reassurance, as Muslims entrust their journeys to the Divine.

Moreover, integrating charity into this practice enhances its spiritual impact. By incorporating acts of charity into their routine of seeking protection and blessings, individuals not only strengthen their faith but also increase the likelihood of their dua being answered.

This holistic approach to travel preparation reflects a deep-rooted belief in the power of prayer and the noble impact of charitable deeds.

Travel Dua & Best Practices

travel dua and best practices

Islam is a beautiful religion that gives a perfect guide to a way of life for all humans. As Muslims, every aspect of our lives has been arranged to our benefit, and we have been given everything that we need to live the best lives on Earth.

One of the beauties of Islam that many of us may take for granted is the fact that we have a dua for everything. From putting on your clothes to eating to traveling, every one of our actions can be a means of worshipping Allah (ta’ala) and earning rewards.

Whenever a Muslim sets out on a journey, we are encouraged to say some duas for our protection and safe return. This is the dua that the Messenger of Allah( ﷺ ) used to make whenever he traveled.

Dua of Travelling

“Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min wa’tha’is-safari, wa kabatil-munqalabi, wal-hawri ba’dal-kawri, wa da’watil-mazlumi, wa suw’il-munzari fil-ahli wal-mal”

“(O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the hardships of travel and the sorrows of return, from loss after plenty, from the supplication of the one who has been wronged, and seeing some calamity befall my family or wealth.)” ( Sunan an-Nasa’i )

We are encouraged to memorize the dua and recite it for every travel.

Best Practices for Travelling

Beyond the dua, it is important for a Muslim who seeks the protection of Allah (ta’ala) in their journey, to also keep within the limits laid down by Islam. These may be in terms of our mode of transport, Salah, or even meeting new people.

Stay Away from Fasting

The traveling person is exempted from fasting, according to a hadith narration which says

“I was traveling and I came to the Prophet when he was eating and I was fasting. He said: ‘Come and eat.’ I said: ‘I am fasting.’ He said: ‘Do you know what Allah has waived for the traveler?’ he said: ‘Do you know what Allah has waived for the traveler?’ I said: ‘What has Allah waived for the traveler?’ He said: ‘Fasting and half of the prayer.’” ( Sunan an-Nasa’i )

He (ﷺ) also said: “It is not righteousness to fast when traveling. Take to the concession which Allah, the mighty and sublime, has granted you, accept it.” ( Sunan an-Nasa’i )

This doesn’t mean that one is forbidden from fasting, however. Because in another narration, the Messenger of Allah was quoted to have said: “If you wish to fast then fast, and if you wish not to fast then do not fast.” ( Sunan an-Nasa’i )

Supplicate While Travelling

Apart from the dua of traveling, it is also encouraged to make dua while on the journey because the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “ Three supplications are answered, there being no doubt about them; that of a father, that of a traveler and that of one who has been wronged.” ( Sunan Abi Dawud )

Shorten Salah

As a traveler, a Muslim is permitted to shorten his Salah while on a journey. So, salahs like Zuhr and Asr with four rakats each becomes two rakats each. It is also permissible to combine two salahs, i.e praying Zuhr and Asr at the time of Zuhr, etc.

Aisha (RA) narrated that “The prayer was prescribed as consisting of two rak’ahs both when one was resident and when traveling. The prayer while traveling was left according to the original prescription and the prayer of one who was resident was enhanced.” ( Sunan Abi Dawud )

Travel with a Mahram

This is a traveling etiquette, particularly for Muslim women. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “A woman should not travel for more than three days except with a Dhi-Mahram.” ( Bukhari )

Even though many people do not take to this rule these days, we should always remember that it is proper traveling etiquette for a Muslim woman to travel accompanied by a male relative that is deemed unmarriageable for her in Islam. (Remember this is not compulsory or obligatory at all for a Muslim woman to travel with a mahram).

The dua for traveling is just one of many duas that we have as Muslims, and like all other duas, it is beneficial and rewarding for us when we make us of it.

A List of Best Dua for Safar (Travelling) With Transliteration & Meaning

Dua for Safar

The word Safar derives from the Arabic wordسفر, which refers to travelling, journey, tour, etc. Travelling is considered an opportunity to explore the world, seek knowledge, and engage in trade or business. Islam encourages going on a journey as long as it is done safely and lawfully.

Allah’s Messenger ﷺ teaches us several dua for Safar to make our journey safer in-sha-Allah. The main reasons for reciting traveling dua are seeking Allah’s guidance, blessings, and protection before starting the journey. So, every Muslim should say these duas as sunnah practices. Let’s reveal the essential duas for transportation.

List of Dua for Safe Travel

There are numerous Safar dua mentioned in Quran and hadith. You will find most of these dua in the Hisnul Muslim app . However, considering the importance of supplications of travelling, we’re publishing these duas in one article.

Praying Two Raka’h Before Leaving Home

Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said to pray two raka’h Sunnah prayers before you start the journey. The following hadith supports it.

“When you leave your house, perform two raka’h and this will safeguard you against evil. When you enter your home, perform another two raka’h, and this will safeguard you against evil.” [Musnad Al-Bazzar]

You can perform this Salah by adding any sura with sura Fatihah. But, in the book of Al-Majmu’ Imam Nawawi mentioned reciting sura Al-Kafirun and sura Al-Ikhlas with sura Fatihah in the first and second raka’h respectively.

Supplication After Leaving the House

Dua When Ascending or Descending

Dua When Experiencing Difficulties During Travel

During the journey time, you may face different kinds of difficulties. In those cases, it’s recommended to seek Allah’s forgiveness by saying ‘Istigfar’ (Astaghfirullah). You can also do other Dhikr, even pray Salah, and make sincere Dua to Allah to seek Allah’s mercy.

Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) reported that Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever increases his prayers for forgiveness (i.e. Astaghfirullah), Allah will grant him relief from every worry, a way out from every hardship, and provide for him in ways he does not expect.” [Musnad Ahmad]

Allah’s Messenger ﷺ mentions the significance of making dua during travelling in the following hadith,

I ask You for the goodness of this village, the goodness of its inhabitants, and for all the goodness found within it, and I take refuge with You from the evil of this village, the evil of its inhabitants, and from all the evil found within it.

Dhikr of Return from Travel

When the Prophet ﷺ returned from a battle or Hajj, he used to say three times:

Then he ﷺ said,

Transliteration: La ila-ha illallah-hu wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, wahua ‘ala kulli shai’in qadir, a-ibuna, ta-ibuna, ‘a-biduna, li rabbina ha-midoon. Sadaqballa-hu wa’dahu, wa nasara ‘abdahu wa hazamal ahzaba wahdahu

Meaning: There is no God except Allah alone, He has no partner; His is the kingdom, all the praise; And He has power over all things. We are returners, penitents, worshipers and praisers of our Lord. Allah has fulfilled His promise, He has helped His servants, and He alone has defeated all the opposing factions.

[Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim]

Prayer Upon Returning Home

After returning home, it’s Sunnah to pray two raka’h Salah.

“When you leave your house, perform two raka’h and this will safeguard you against evil. When you enter your home, perform another two raka’h and this will safeguard you against evil.” [Musnad Al-Bazzar]

Travelling is a necessary part of life. As Muslims, we should follow the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ during Safar. You may be confused to see lots of dua in the list. Actually, Allah’s Messenger ﷺ used to say different dua during travelling. But you can start with some basic ones. And try to memorize and practice more duas as much as you can. May Allah makes our journeys safer, Ameen.

Important information for travelling in Islam

The best day to start travelling.

Early morning is the best time to start travel

Early morning is the best time to start travelling in Islam. Hazrat Sakhr al-Ghamdi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed: O Allah! grant  “Barakah” (increased blessing) to my Ummah in their morning hours. When the Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to send an army or army ,he  (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك و سلم) used to send them early morning. There was a merchant named Sakhar, his nephew, who used to send a convoy (of goods) in the morning for trade. It had increased a lot. [ Musannaf of Ibn Abi Shaybah , Hadith 34305]

First thing to do after coming back

Pray 2 rakah salah whenever you come back from travelling . It is better to pray these 2 rakah in a mosque . But if not possible, then you can pray it at home also. Both Ahadith are mentioned below.

11 Duas for Travelling for a Safe Journey (Arabic & English)

Duas for Travelling

Table of Contents

Islam is a comprehensive religion that covers all spheres of life. In addition to the five obligatory prayers, Allah has commanded us to seek His blessings and guidance before undertaking any action. For instance, we must seek Allah’s protection from any harm during travelling by reciting Dua for Travelling .

Whether we travel by car, train, or airplane, we must recite certain Duas before starting our journey . Of course, we plan ahead of time, but no one is certain how our plan progresses or ends. Therefore, Muslims must seek Allah’s direction and assistance to reach their destinations safely and return home to their family. While you do so, opt for Dua Travels to maximize your experience.

Islam allows all Muslims to travel when the intentions are for the right purpose. While reciting  Dua for travelling , Muslims must firmly believe in Allah (SWT) and His blessings. He is the only one who has the power to protect us from unfortunate events like accidents and the harm of travelling. Let us explore some of the most beneficial as we must recite before and during the journey.

What Does the Holy Quran Say about Travelling?

Holy Quran, the sacred scripture, is the book of wisdom that teaches man the purpose of life and guides Muslims on the right way to lead their lives. The Islamic Holy Book covers all aspects of life and directs Muslims to success in this world and hereafter. According to the Quran, this world is temporary, and human beings are in a constant state of Travel. However, Allah (SWT) also mentions physical travelling several times.

In the Quran, ‘sayyir’ refers to the one who travels. The word sayir literally means to move or travel. Allah (SWT) used this word 27 times in the Quran in several expressions, including “Do Travel,” “Do they not Travel,” and “Tell them to Travel.”

Do they then not travel through the Earth, so that their minds gain wisdom and their ears thus learn to hear? 22:46

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) also emphasized travelling. He told the believers that travelling is a great way to expand their horizons and seek knowledge. In one instance, he said

“Keep  to  travelling by night  because the earth is folded (traversed more easily) during the  night .” [Abu Dawud].

Dua Before Travelling

Shariah recommends to off 2 rakaat nawafil before starting travel. It is because the Holy Prophet (PBUH) performed this task before going on any journey. You can get the confirmation of this practice from the following hadith.

Dua Before Travelling

“When you leave your house, perform two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evil. When you enter your home, perform another two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evil.”

(Musnad Al-Bazzar)

The Quran clearly stated the Dua for safe Travel regardless of the mode of transport. The following Dua for Travelling is recited to seek Allah’s protection and safety throughout the journey.

The Teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Hadith on Travel: The Prophet’s supplication for a journey

Ibn Umar reported: When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would mount his camel for travel, he would exalt Allah three times and then say, “ Glory be to Him who has made this subservient to us, for we have no power over it ourselves, and to our Lord we shall return. (43:14) O Allah, we ask You during this journey for righteousness, fear of Your, and deeds that are pleasing to You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and make the distance short for us. O Allah, You are our companion during the journey and the guardian of the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of travel, ugly scenes, and an evil return to our property and family. ” When the Prophet returned, he would say these words and add to them, “ We are those who return, those who repent, those who worship and who praise our Lord .”

Dua for Travelling: Strengthening Faith and Seeking Allah’s Protection on Your Journey

As believers and followers of Islam, it is important to always be mindful of seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings in every aspect of our lives. Traveling, whether short distances or long, provides an opportunity to invoke Allah’s protection and guidance on our journey. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught the Ummah various duas (supplications) for different occasions, including the dua for traveling. In this blog post, we will explore the significance of the traveler’s dua and the incredible spiritual benefits that come from reciting it.

Table of Contents

Before embarking on any journey, it is essential to recite the dua for traveling. This dua is known as the Dua of Safar (دعاء السفر), and it is a beautiful way to seek Allah’s protection, guidance, and blessings on your journey

Let’s delve into the words from the dua:

لله أكبر الله أكبر الله أكبر،

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَـذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ.

Transliteration: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Subhana alladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin wa inna ila rabbina lamunqaliboon.

Translation: Glory to Him who has subjected these to our (use), for we could never have accomplished this (by ourselves), and to our Lord, surely, we are to return.

Transliteration: “Allahumma innā nas’aluka fee safarinā hādha al-birra wa-t-taqwā, wa minal-‘amali ma tardi, Allahumma hawwin ‘alayna safarana hādha watwi ‘annā bu’dah, Allahumma anata as-sahibu fis-safari, wal-khalifatu fil-ahl, Allahumma innā na’ūdhu bika min wa’tha’is-safari, wa kabatil-mandhari, wasu’il-munqalabi fil-māli wal-ahl”

Translation: “Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, O Allah, we ask You for righteousness and piety in this journey of ours, and we ask You for deeds which please You. O Allah, facilitate our journey and let us cover its distance quickly. O Allah, You are the Companion in the journey and the Successor over the family. O Allah, I take refuge with You from the difficulties of travel, from having a change of hearts and being in a bad predicament, and from an ill-fated outcome with wealth and family.”

This dua is both a humble plea and a powerful assertion of Allah’s supremacy. We seek tranquillity and ease in our journey, request His guidance in undertaking actions that earn His pleasure, and implore His protection from hardships, changes of heart, and unfortunate incidents involving our wealth and family.

From Surah Hud Ayah 41:

وقال اركبوا فيها بسم الله مجراها ومرساها إن ربي لغفور رحيم

Transliteration: Waqala irkaboo feeha bismillahi majraha wamursaha inna rabbee laghafoorun raheem[1%5E]

Translation: And he said, “Embark therein, in the name of Allah is its course and its anchorage. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful[1].

This Ayah is from the moment when the Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) was about to embark on the journey in the ark with those who believed in Allah s.w.t. The statement declared by Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) captures the spirit of complete trust and reliance in Allah s.w.t. He attributes the voyage’s movement and rest to Allah’s name, an expression of strong faith and surrender to divine decree.

Dua for Travelling 3

In the name of Allah, I have placed my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.

Dua For Travelling in English | Best Duas Before & After Travelling

Are you all set for your traveling be sure to recite these duas for traveling which are collected from the books of hadith..

by Mohammed Saadullah Khan

Allah SWT is the creator and sustainer of the entire universe. Every person living on this earth works day and night to fulfill his household needs and earns a living to feed himself and his family with great effort. If he does all these things under the commandments of God and the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH), then they all become acts of worship.

But if he does not follow the Islamic rules in these matters and breaks those by adopting illegal methods or starts killing the rights of others in the name of economic struggle, then this effort can become a source of disgrace for him in the hereafter. Islam has guided us in every matter and even Prophet (peace be upon Him) taught us the dua and manners for travelling also.

Why Do We Need to Read Dua for Travelling?

When we travel, we are surrounded by countless dangers. To be safe from these dangers, we can remove the possible dangers by following the commands of the Prophet (peace be upon Him) and the rulings stated by them. It is clear that by doing prayers, giving charity, and many other such things, and by following the rules and precautions, we can keep ourselves safe from every kind of danger. We should not forget to read dua for travelling before leaving our home and after coming back home.

English transliteration : Subhan Alladhi Sakh-Khara Lana Hadha Wa Ma Kunna Lahu Muqrinin. Wa Inna Ila Rabbina Lamunqalibun

“So, that you may sit firmly on their backs, and remember your Lord’s blessings once you are settled on them, saying, “Glory be to the One who has subjected these for us, for we could have never done so ˹on our own. And surely to our Lord, we will all return.”

– [ Surah Zukhruf ayat 13-14 ]

That is, among all the creatures of the earth, only man has been given the authority by Allah SWT to use boats and ships and animals as rides. Should he never wonder who it is that made it possible for him to navigate the great seas and who created some of the innumerable animals that became his slaves? Taking advantage of these blessings and forgetting the benefactor is a sign of a dead heart and a numb conscience.

Because when a person with a lively heart and a sensitive conscience sits on these paths, he will be filled with a sense of blessings and a spirit of gratitude and will cry: ‘Blessed is He who subjugated these things to me. He is purer than that another partakes of His being, attributes, and powers. He is pure and free from the weakness of being helpless to perform his divine functions by himself and dependent on other co-gods. He is pure that I should share these blessings with someone else.

Dua’s for Travelling From Hadith:

1. It was narrated from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mounted his camel to set out on a journey, he would say takbeer three times, then he would say:

Subhanaalladhi sakh-khara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrineen wa inna ila rabbina la munqaliboon

English Translation : Glory be to the One Who has placed this (transport) at our service and we ourselves would not have been capable of that, and to our Lord is our final destiny.

– [ Sahih Muslim 1342 ]

Dua For Traveling in English

2. There’s a popular Dua for travelling from [ Sunan Abi Dawud 5095 ] (graded as Sahih by Al-Albani) which we must read after leaving the house. I personally recite this Dua every single time before I start my journey.

English transliteration :

Bismillahi tawakkaltu ‘alallah la hawla wala quwwata illa billah

English translation : In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no might and no power but in Allah.

Narrated Anas ibn Malik:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: When a man goes out of his house and says: “In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no might and no power but in Allah,” the following will be said to him at that time: “You are guided, defended and protected.” The devils will go far from him and another devil will say: How can you deal with a man who has been guided, defended and protected?

You can also check the meaning of this Dua here .

Remembering Allah SWT at all times brings a person even closer to Him. Moreover, it only takes only a few seconds to recite this beautiful Dua that our Prophet (SAWS) taught us to read for traveling. When you recite the Dua, be sure to put all your trust in Him.

How to Start And End Your Travel With Dua?

Narrated Ali ibn Abu Talib: Ali ibn Rabiah said: I was present with Ali while a beast was brought to him to ride. When he put his foot in the stirrup, he said: “In the name of Allah”. Then when he sat on its back, he said: “Praise be to Allah”. He then said: “Glory be to Him Who has made this subservient to us, for we had not the strength, and to our Lord do we return”. He then said: “Praise be to Allah (thrice); Allah is Most Great (thrice): glory be to Thee, I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for only Thou forgivest sins.” He then laughed. He was asked: At what did you laugh? He replied: I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) do as I have done, and laugh after that. I asked: Messenger of Allah, at what are you laughing? He replied: Your Lord, Most High, is pleased with His servant when he says: “Forgive me my sins.” He knows that no one forgives sins except Him.

– [ Abu Dawood:2602 , Grade: Sahih (Al-Albani)]

Translation: Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported that whenever Allah’s Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) mounted his camel while setting out on a journey, he glorified Allah (uttered Allah-o-Akbar) thrice, and then said: Hallowed is He Who subdued for us this (ride) and we were not ourselves powerful enough to use It as a ride, and we are going to return to our Lord. O Allah, we seek virtue and piety from Thee in this journey of ours and the act which pleaseth Thee. O Allah lightens this journey of ours and makes its distance easy for us. O Allah, Thou art (our) companion during the journey, and guardian of (our) family. O Allah, I seek refuge with Thee from hardships of the journey, the gloominess of the sights, and finding of evil changes in property and family on return. And he (the Holy Prophet) uttered (these words), and made this addition to them: We are returning, repentant, worshipping our Lord and praising Him.

[Sahih Muslim – Reference ]

Gather all the blessings and avail forgiveness through dua for traveling:   How blessed we are as Muslims. Even when we travel, we have been taught such prayers by which we can receive the blessings of Allah SWT. We can ask Allah SWT to forgive our sins. Traveling may bring some kind of difficulties. The above dua will make our traveling easy and take away all the difficulties of traveling.

Dua When You Return From Traveling

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

English transliteration : A`ūdhu bikalimāti ‘llāhit-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq.

Translation : Khaula bint Hakim Sulamiyya reported: I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When anyone lands at a place and then says:” I seek refuge in the Perfect Word of Allah from the evil of what He has created,” nothing would harm him until he marches from that stopping place.

– [ Sahih Muslim 2708a ]

Dua of Protection

We may not know who has stayed before or what events have occurred in our staying place before that may affect our stay. To read the above supplication is actually useful to protect ourselves from any harm. Likewise, this dua after reaching the destination is the protection from all evil and bad things.

Traveling gives an excitement to the soul of man and gives joy to his heart. And in the Holy Qur’an, God Almighty has called consideration of the living conditions of the past people as an example and a reason to learn a good lesson from them. The prophet (peace be upon him) has given great consideration to this important movement of human life and has given special importance to traveling. It was the blessed habit of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he used to read dua for travelling when he starts his traveling and end his traveling with dua.

Dua While Travelling

dua while travelling is accepted

The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said; Three supplications will not be rejected (by Allah (SWT)), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the one who is fasting, and the supplication of the traveler. [al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi – Sahih] During travel supplication is heard by Allah (SWT) if the trip is for a good reason, but if the trip is for a bad intention or to perform illegal things (making sins) this will not apply to it.

In another hadith; The Prophet (SAW) declared: ‘ Three du’as are surely answered: The du’a of the oppressed, the du’a of the traveler, and the du’a of the father/mother (upon their child) ‘. The One who is suffering injustice is heard by Allah (SWT) when he invokes Allah (SWT) to retain his rights from the unjust one or oppressor. Allah (SWT) has sworn to help the one who is suffering from injustice sooner or later as the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said.

Times When Du`a Is Accepted

Publication : 23-07-2004

What are the times, places and situations where du`a is answered? And what is meant by the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) “Dubur al-salawat al-maktubah (following the prescribed prayers)”? Is the prayer of a father for his child answered, or is it a prayer against him that is answered? I hope you can explain all these matters.

Summary of answer

Praise be to Allah.

There are many times and places where du`a is answered. There follows a summary thereof:

  • Laylat al-Qadar . ‘Aishah asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): “If I know what night is Laylat al-Qadar, what should I say during it?” He said: “Say: Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibb ul-‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni (O Allah, You are forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me).”
  •  Du`a in the depths of the night, the time before dawn, the time when Allah descends to bestow His bounty upon His slaves, to meet their needs and to relieve their distress, when He says: “Who will call upon Me, that I may answer Him? Who will ask of Me, that I may give him? Who will seek My forgiveness, that I may forgive him?” (Narrated by al-Bukhari, 1145)
  • Following the prescribed prayers . According to the hadith of Abu Umamah, it was said: “O Messenger of Allah, which du`a is heard?” He said: “In the last third of the night, and following the prescribed prayers.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 3499; classed as hasan by al-Albani in Sahih al-Tirmidhi.

There was some difference of scholarly opinion concerning the phrase dubur al-salawat al-maktubah (“following the prescribed prayers”) – does it mean before the salam or afterwards?

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah and his student Ibn al-Qayyim were of the view that it is before the salam. Ibn Taymiyah said: “The word dubur refers to something that is part of a thing, like dubur al-hayawan (the hindquarters of an animal).” Zad al-Ma'ad, 1.305. Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymin said: “What has been narrated of du`a following the prayer is before the salam and what has been narrated of dhikr following the prayer is after the salam, because Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“When you have finished As-Salah (the congregational prayer), remember Allah standing, sitting down, and (lying down) on your sides.” [al-Nisa 4:103]  (See: Kitab al-Du`a by Shaykh Muhammad al-Hamad, p. 54)

  • Between the adhan and the iqamah. It is narrated in a sahih report that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “A du`a offered between the adhan and iqamah is not rejected.” (Narrated by Abu Dawud (521) and al-Tirmidhi (212). See also Sahih al-Jami’, 2408)
  • When the call for the prescribed prayers is given and when the ranks are drawn up for battle, as it says in the marfu' hadith of Sahl ibn Sa’d: “There are two that will not be rejected, or will rarely be rejected: du`a at the time of the call for prayer and at the time of battle when the fighting begins.” (Narrated by Abu Dawud; it is a sahih report. See Sahih al-Jami’, 3079)
  • When rain falls , as it said in the hadith of Sahl ibn Sa’d that is attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): “There are two which will not be rejected: du`a at the time of the call (to prayer) and when it is raining.” (Narrated by Abu Dawud and classed as sahih by al-Albani in Sahih al-Jami’, (3078).
  • At a certain time of the night, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “During the night there is a time when the Muslim does not ask for the good of this world and the Hereafter but it will be given to him, and that happens every night.” (Narrated by Muslim, 757)
  • A certain time on Friday .  The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mentioned Friday and said: “During it there is a time when a Muslim slave does not stand and pray and ask Allah for something, but He will give it to him,” and he gestured with his hand to indicate how short that time is. (Narrated by al-Bukhari, 935; Muslim, 852. See also question no. 21748)
  • When drinking Zamzam water . Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Zamzam water is for that for which it is drunk.” (Narrated by Ahmad and classed as sahih by al-Albani in Sahih al-Jami’, 5502)
  • When prostrating. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The closest that a person is to his Lord is when he is prostrating, so say a great deal of du`a then.” (Narrated by Muslim, 482)
  • When hearing the crowing of a rooster, because of the hadith: “When you hear the crowing of a rooster, ask Allah of His bounty, for he has seen an angel.” (Narrated by al-Bukhari, 2304; Muslim, 2729)
  • When saying the du`a, “La ilaha illa anta, subhanaka, inni kuntu min al-zalimin ([none has the right to be worshipped but You (O Allah)], Glorified (and Exalted) be You [above all that (evil) they associate with You]! Truly, I have been of the wrongdoers – cf al-Anbiya 21:87]).” It was narrated in a sahih hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The prayer of Dhu’l-Nun (Yunus) which he said when he was in the belly of the whale: ‘La ilaha illa anta, subhanaka, inni kuntu min al-zalimin ([none has the right to be worshipped but You (O Allah)], Glorified (and Exalted) be You [above all that (evil) they associate with You]! Truly, I have been of the wrongdoers.’ No Muslim recites this du`a concerning any matter but Allah will answer him.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi and classed as sahih in Sahih al-Jami’, 3383.

In his commentary on the passage (interpretation of the meaning):

“And (remember) Dhun-Nun (Jonah), when he went off in anger, and imagined that We shall not punish him (i.e. the calamities which had befallen him)! But he cried through the darkness (saying): La ilaha illa Anta [none has the right to be worshipped but You (O Allah)], Glorified (and Exalted) be You [above all that (evil) they associate with You]! Truly, I have been of the wrongdoers.” So We answered his call, and delivered him from the distress. And thus We do deliver the believers (who believe in the Oneness of Allah, abstain from evil and work righteousness).” [al-Anbiya 21:87-88]

Al-Qurtubi said:  In this verse, Allah stipulates that whoever calls upon Him, He will answer him as He answered and saved Dhu’l-Nun (Yunus). This is what is meant by the words “And thus We do deliver the believers”. (Al-Jami’ li Ahkam il-Quran, 11/334)

  •  If a calamity befalls him and he says, Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un, Allahumma ujurni fi musibati w'ukhluf li khayran minha (Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return; O Allah, reward me in this calamity and compensate me with something better than it). It was narrated by Muslim in his Sahih (918) that Umm Salamah said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “There is no calamity that befalls one of the Muslims and he responds by saying ‘Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un, Allahumma ujurni fi musibati w'ukhluf li khayran minha (Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return; O Allah, reward me in this calamity and compensate me with something better than it),’ but Allah will compensate him with something better than it.”
  •  The prayer of people after the soul of the deceased has been taken. According to the hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) entered upon Abu Salamah (after he had died) and his eyes were open. He closed them and said: “When the soul is taken, the gaze follows it.” Some of his family got upset and he said: “Do not pray for anything but good for yourselves, for the angels say Amin to whatever you say.” Narrated by Muslim. 2732.
  • Du`a for one who is sick. Muslim (919) narrated that Umm Salamah said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “When you visit a sick person, say good things, for the angels say Amin to whatever you say…” When Abu Salamah died, I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: “Abu Salamah has died.” He said: “Say: O Allah, forgive me and him, and compensate me well.” She said: I said: And Allah compensated me with one who was better for me than him: Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
  •  The prayer of the one who has been wronged. In the hadith it says: “Fear the prayer of the one who has been wronged, for there is no barrier between it and Allah.” Narrated by al-Bukhari, 469; Muslim, 19. And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The prayer of the one who has been wronged will be answered, even if he is an evildoer, for his evildoing is only against himself.” Narrated by Ahmad. See Sahih al-Jami’, 3382.
  •  The du`a of a father for his child – i.e., for his benefit – and the du`a of a fasting person during the day of his fast, and the prayer of the traveller. It was narrated in a sahih report that our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “There are three prayers that are not rejected: the prayer of a father for his child, the prayer of the fasting person and the prayer of the traveller.” Narrated by al-Bayhaqi; see Sahih al-Jami’, 2032; al-Sahihah, 1797.
  •  The prayer of a father against his child – i.e., to harm him. According to a sahih hadith: ‘There are three prayers that will be answered: the prayer of one who has been wronged, the prayer of a traveller, and the prayer of a father against his child.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1905. See Sahih al-Adab al-Mufrad, 372.
  •  The du`a of a righteous person for his parents, as stated in the hadith narrated by Muslim (1631): “When the son of Adam dies, all his good deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity, a righteous son who will pray for him, or beneficial knowledge.”
  •  Du`a after the sun has passed its zenith and before Zhuhr. ‘Abd-Allah ibn al-Saib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to pray four rak'ahs after the sun had passed its zenith and before Zhuhr, and he said: “This is a time when the gates of heaven are opened and I want a good deed of mine to ascend during this time.” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi and its isnad is sahih. See Takhrij al-Mishkaat, 1/337)
  •  Du`a when getting up from the night (sleep), and saying the du`a that was narrated for that time. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever awakens from the night and says La ilaha ill-Allah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahu al-mulku wa lahu al-hamd, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay-in qadir. Alhamdulillah, wa Subhanallah, wa la ilaha illa Allah wallahu akbar wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa Billah (There is no god but Allah Alone, He has no partners, His is the Sovereignty, to Him belongs praise and He is over all things Capable. Glory be to Allah, there is no (true) God but Allah, and Allah is Most Great and there is no power and no strength except with Allah), then he says: Allahumma ighfir li (O Allah, forgive me), or he makes du`a, his prayer will be answered, and if he does wudu and prays, his prayer will be accepted.” Narrated by al-Bukhari, 1154.

And Allah knows best.

How to get your Dua accepted by supplicating in certain times and situations

Does Allah SWT answers our Duas and supplication? Definitely Yes. He is the one and the only one who can hear our Duas and prayers even if it were silently. Allah hears the silent cry of the heart. Follow this complete guide on how to get your Dua accepted.

For some reason, our Dua sometimes does not get accepted. Maybe we did not make Dua with full trust in Allah’s acceptance or we have sins that prevent our Dua to get accepted.

We should also turn to Allah in all our matters and seek his acceptance.

The prophet PBUH said: “Let one of you ask his Lord for his every need, until he asks Him for salt, and asks Him for the strap of his sandal when it breaks.” 2

TIP 1: How to get your Dua accepted

Start your Dua by praising Allah الحمد لله and sending blessing upon the prophet اللهم صلي علي سيدنا محمد. Also, raise your hand in Dua and feel your need to Allah, and insist on Him of your need.

One must be sincere in his  du’a , so he turns to Allah with an attentive heart, being truthful in his turning to Him, knowing that Allah SWT is capable of answering his  du’a and hoping that the  dua  will be answered. Also, One should get his living from a lawful source.

Your Dua is more likely to be accepted when you seek to make your Dua in certain times and situations. These times, places, and situations are mentioned by the prophet PBUH. That’s how to get your Dua accepted.

Times of acceptance of Dua are many and here I have collected to you some of them.

Times of acceptance of Dua from the teachings of the prophet

Dua in the night of alqadr (decree)..

‘Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: I asked: “O Messenger of Allah! If I realize Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it?” He (ﷺ) replied, “You should supplicate: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me).” 3

Dua in the last third of the night or Suhr time i.e befor Fajr.

The prophet said: Our Lord, the Blessed and the Exalted, descends every night to the lowest heaven when one-third of the latter part of the night is left, and says: Who supplicates Me so that I may answer him? Who asks Me so that I may give to him? Who asks Me forgiveness so that I may forgive him? 4

After Fard Salawat (mandatory prayers).

How to get your Dua accepted

“What is offered in the latter part of the depth of the night and after the prescribed prayers.” God’s Messenger was asked which supplication is most readily listened to, and replied,“What is offered in the latter part of the depth of the night and after the prescribed prayers.” 5

Time between Azan (call to prayer) and Iqama.

The messanger PBUH said: Between the call to prayer and the ‘Iqamah, you should supplicate Allah for yourself. Invocation during this time is not rejected. 6

Dua when it rains and in battle when the two armies are locked.

Sahl b. Sa’d reported God’s Messenger as saying, “Two things are not rejected, or are seldom rejected:a supplication when the call to prayer is made, and in stress when people are locked in battle.” A version has “and when rain is falling”. 7

A certain time at night.

Jabir reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: There is an hour during the night in which no Muslim bondman will ask Allah for good in this world and the next but He will grant it to him. 8

Dua in sujood, when dua is accepted

In Sujood (prostration in prayer).

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: “The closest that the slave comes to his Lord is when he is prostrating, so invoke Allah much (in prostration).” 9

Saying لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

Best Dua to say, prophet Yunus Dua

(Lā ilāha illā anta subḥānaka innī kuntu minaẓ-ẓālimīn)’. It was the Dua of prophet Yunus while in the belly of the whale. The prophet said So indeed, no Muslim man supplicates with it for anything, ever, except Allah responds to him.” 10

Dua after the sun goes down before noon.

A certain time of day on friday..

An unknown time on Friday in which Dua is accepted. The prophet said about Friday “There is an hour (opportune time) on Friday and if a Muslim gets it while praying and asks something from Allah, then Allah will definitely meet his demand.” And he (the Prophet) pointed out the shortness of that time with his hands. 11

Situations when Dua is accepted

In these situations make Dua to Allah as it’s a time of acceptance and you will get Dua answered.

  • When you wake up at night in the middle of your sleeping. The Prophet (ﷺ) “Whoever gets up at night and says: — ‘La ilaha il-lallah Wahdahu la Sharika lahu Lahu-lmulk, waLahu-l-hamd wahuwa ‘ala kullishai’in Qadir. Al hamdu lil-lahi wa subhanal-lahi wa la-ilaha il-lal-lah wa-l-lahu akbar wa la hawla Wala Quwata il-la-bil-lah.’ (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah. He is the Only One and has no partners . For Him is the Kingdom and all the praises are due for Him. He is Omnipotent. All the praises are for Allah. All the glories are for Allah. And none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, And Allah is Great And there is neither Might nor Power Except with Allah). And then says: — Allahumma, Ighfir li (O Allah! Forgive me). Or invokes (Allah), he will be responded to and if he performs ablution (and prays), his prayer will be accepted.”
  • When visiting a sick person. Umm Salama reported God’s messenger as saying, “When you are with one who is ill or dying speak good words, for the angels say Amen to what you say.” 12
  • When drinking Zamzam water. It was narrated that Jabir bin ‘Abdullah said:“I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘The water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for.’” 13
  • When a disaster happens to you say: Ina Lillahi Waina Ilaih Rag’oon. It means: We belong to God and to Him do we return. 14
  • People’s Dua after burring a dead person. In a Hadith the prophet said: “When the soul is taken away, the sight follows it.” Some members of his family began to weep. He (ﷺ) said: “Do not supplicate for yourselves anything but good, for the angels say ‘amin’ to what you say.” 15
  • Dua of the oppressed person. The Prophet (ﷺ) sent Mu`adh to Yemen and said, “Be afraid, from the curse of the oppressed as there is no screen between his invocation and Allah.” 16
  • Dua while fasting (performing Sawm). 17
  • Dua while traveling. 18
  • Dua of the parent to his son (or daughter). The Messenger of Allah PBUH said: “There are three supplications that will undoubtedly be answered: the supplication of one who has been wronged; the supplication of the traveler; and the supplication of a father for his child.” 19

What is the best way to make Dua?

Start your Dua by praising Allah and sending blessings upon the prophet PBUH. Then, ask Allah whatever you want. After you finish Dua praise Allah and send blessings again. The Prophet ﷺ said: “When any one of you prays, let him begin by praising Allaah, then let him send blessings upon the Prophet  ﷺ, then let him ask for whatever he wants.” (Tirmidhi, classed as Saheeh by al-Albaani).

When can I make Dua to Allah?

One can make Dua any time. However, there are some times and situations in which making Dua can get your Dua accepted more effectively.

What are the reasons for the non-acceptance of Dua?

Sins can be a reason for not accepting your Dua. Also, eating or earning from unlawful (Haram) sources. For the prophet Hadith, …..Then he (ﷺ) made a mention of the person who travels for a long period of time, his hair is disheveled and covered with dust. He lifts his hand towards the sky and thus makes the supplication: ‘My Rubb! My Rubb!’ But his food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothes are unlawful and his nourishment is unlawful, how can, then his supplication be accepted?” 20

That’s all that I could collect of information on how to get your Dua accepted. And, times of acceptance of Dua. Follow this guide to make Dua to Allah and It will be accepted Insha’Allah. If you have any questions let me know in the comments.

How To Get Your Duas Accepted

How To Get Your Duas Accepted

Du’as are the key to everything you need and want. It can change your life and bring you everything you need. Not to mention, even the Du’as that you don’t receive answers to will benefit you in the hereafter. At the same time, there’s an etiquette to making a Du’a that you should keep in mind. Don’t worry though, it’s not all that complicated.

You too can learn how to do dua to make it come true. Besides, it all concerns your Takwa and Dua etiquette, and utilizing the best times for making duas. Before we look at the etiquette, let’s look at how to prepare your mind and heart.

Start Humble

When you get ready to pray, remember that you should be humble in front of Allah’azza wa Jall. Stand with fear of His punishment and with hope of earning His reward! Besides, humbleness in dua comes from acknowledging the power and might of Allah.

Moreover, the more you realize that we are powerless without Him, the easier it will become to be subdued in Salah and Du’a.

In short, the essence of your Dua should be humbleness, sincerity, secrecy, fear and hope.

Develop Yaqeen

Yaqeen means a firm conviction or belief and to have Yaqeen in your Dua means to believe that Allah will answer your Dua. The secret here is to hold on to this belief no matter how long it takes. To do this, contemplate the phrase ‘ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّٰهِ ’. What this means is that there is no power or strength except from Allah.

Did you know that as Allah ‘azza wa Jal creates new angels every day, the first words they utter are the above?

By saying this لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّٰهِ we are internalising the truth that only Allah is worthy of worship and that we need him. Also, when this belief becomes firm in our hearts, it’ll be easier for us to hold on to our convictions.

Persistence in Our Dua

No matter what happens or how long it takes, remain steadfast and persistent in your Dua. Further, never stop praying and never stop asking for everything that you need and desire! It is often easier to give up, assume the worst and move on from it. While it may be easier, it is the worst thing you can do for yourself. Remember that if you want your Dua to come true, being persistence is paramount.

When it gets difficult, remind yourself of what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Verily your Lord is Generous and Shy. If His servant raises his hands to Him, He becomes shy to return them empty.” This is Hadeeth from At Tirmidhee that shows us why we should never stop asking. We don’t know what is written in our Qadr and that’s all the more reason to keep praying. After all, we can use our duas to even change our Qadr, with a few exceptions.

Let Go of Your Impatience

It is easy to feel that our Dua remains unanswered after a few days, weeks, months or even years. Allowing such thoughts to take over our minds will be our biggest loss.

When you feel like giving up read what our Prophet ﷺ has told us. “The du‘ā’ of every one of you is accepted as long as he does not grow impatient and says: ‘I made du‘ā’ but it was not accepted.’” (Muslim)

Supplicate with Du’as from The Qur’an and Sunnah

Undoubtedly, you are free to read Dua in your language or any language that you are comfortable and fluent in. In addition to this, focus on Qur’anic Duas and authentic Duas from the Hadeeth. They are more eloquent and are complete in a way that is difficult for us to achieve.

Leaving Sin, Consuming Halal and Remembrance During Ease

As you continue making dua, it is essential to leave out sins and haram. If you live in a country or a community where Halal is difficult to access, life might feel very difficult. At the same time, the more you struggle the higher your rewards will be.

Further, it is especially understandable if your job or work is touched with something Haram. Not many people can just quit especially when they have a family depending on them. Don’t let this bring you down as your Rizq comes from Ar Razzaq not from your employer! Always be dignified as is deserving of a Muslim.

Moreover, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Remember Allah during times of ease and He will remember you during times of hardship.” (Ahmad). Keep this in mind and continue your duas and Dhikr in times of ease and difficulties!

Have Your Duas Accepted

Once you have prepared your mind and heart in the ways mentioned above, you’re ready to make dua. What you need to know next is the best manners to follow to make Dua.

  • Make sure your heart is present and not distracted.
  • Make duas with Kushu and focus on Allah.
  • Start with Wudhu, face the Qibla, and raise your hands in Dua. While it is true that you can make dua whenever and wherever, doing these things will increase the chances of making your dua come true.
  • Moreover, set your intention, humble yourself, and submit to Allah.
  • Start your dua by praising Allah by His beautiful name and attributes. You can mention the names and attributes that are relevant to your situation or Dua. Then, send Salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ.
  • Also, ask for forgiveness and repent of your sins. Make the intention to never repeat them and ask for guidance!
  • Go ahead and ask for whatever you want with love, fear, and most importantly, persistence. Ask for what you want and ask for more. Then, ask some more! Ask through His Oneness and His beautiful name.
  • Give Sadaqah whenever you get a chance.

Moreover, you can learn more about this from Ibn al-Qayyim’s al-Jawāb al-Kāfī. Supplement your Duas with Quran recitation. If you’re not proficient in the Arabic language, you can improve through Quran tutors online .

Occasions When Du’a is Easily Accepted

Finally, make use of the best times to do Dua. Here are some of the times when Duas are readily accepted.

  • Between the Adhaan and the Iqama, they are the best ones! If you’re fortunate to live or work near a mosque, you’re sure to hear the Adhaan. Respond appropriately to it, and make your Duas before praying Salah.
  • Fard means compulsory prayers so you have 5 opportunities every day to make Dua. Remember it is a major sin to skip your prayers whether it is for work, sleep, or any other reason. Please make sure you pray on time! Once you’re done, ask for anything you want and your Lord will give you more.
  • Additionally, the last third part of the night means Tahajjud prayers. While it is not compulsory, we have been told how valuable the Tahajjud prayers are. As everyone else is sleeping, be the one who is awake, worshipping Allah so you can ask for what you need.
  • While you’re in Sajdah.
  • While you fasting and when you open your fast.
  • The day of Jumu’ah (Friday).
  • Day of ‘Arafah.
  • When drinking Zamzam water.
  • When it rains.
  • While travelling.
  • Pray for someone else. This can be any of your family, friends, or anyone at all!
  • While you are oppressed.

Lastly, the dua that a parent makes for their child is accepted too.
