What to Wear to an Erykah Badu Concert
The concert is in two hours, and you’re still in your sweat pants. You could go out and buy something new, but the problem is that you don’t want to look like a tourist. You want something that says “I’m local” without being too obvious about it. Luckily, we’ve got you covered! Here are some options for what to wear to an erykah badu concert: Erykah Badu is a singer known for her eclectic style and soulful sound. Her music has been sampled by artists like Drake, Kanye West, and Jay-Z. She’s even collaborated with OutKast! So if you’re going to see Erykah Badu perform live, you want to look your best. But what should you wear? This guide will help you pick out the perfect outfit for your next Erykah Badu concert.
Hey y’all! I’m a fashion writer and I’ve been asked to write a blog on what to wear to an Erykah Badu concert. So let’s get right into it!
First things first, you need to know that Erykah Badu is a legend. She’s been in the game for over 20 years now, and she’s still going strong. You’ll never see her in anything but a colorful headwrap, a flowing gown, and some killer heels.
That means that when you go to her concert, you need to bring your A-game tooâbut don’t worry! It doesn’t have to be as complicated as hers is! Here are some easy tips for dressing up like Erykah:
If you’re like me, you’ve been waiting for Erykah Badu to come back to Cleveland. She’s one of the most underrated musicians of our time, and it’s been so long since she’s come to perform here.
So what should you wear to her concert? The answer is simple: everything. You should wear everything that you own and then some more. If you don’t think that something will look good on stage with Erykah Badu, then just bring it anyway and see what happens.
You know, I love going to concerts.
But one thing that always stresses me out is what to wear.
When you’re in a large crowd, it’s easy to get lost in the shuffleâand I don’t want to be the person who shows up in jeans and a t-shirt, only to realize everyone else is wearing formalwear! But on the other hand, if I go all out with my outfit and it rains or gets cold, then what?
I’ve put together this guide for outdoor concerts so that no matter what happens at your next concert experience, you’ll be prepared for anything.
The summer concert season is upon us, and you know what that means: it’s time to pack your bags and head out to an outdoor venue. Whether you’re attending a festival or seeing one of your favorite bands in an open field, you’ll need to know what to wear so that you can stay cool, comfortable, and stylish all at once!
So what should be on your checklist? First off, think about the weather. Is it going to be hot out? Is it going to be rainy? If so, try to bring some water with youâit will help keep you hydrated while also keeping your skin moisturized with a little SPF.
Next up are shoes. You want something durable enough for the dirt and grass (or gravel) but also comfy enough that they won’t make your feet sore by the end of the night.
Finally, think about accessoriesâyou don’t want anything too heavy or bulky because it could get in the way of dancing (or worse: get lost). But if you can find something light that adds just enough color without being distracting, then go for it!
It’s finally here! You’ve been waiting for months, and now it’s almost time to go. You’ve been waiting all year for this concert, and it’s finally hereâbut what are you going to wear?
If it’s cool outside, consider wearing one of your favorite stylish tees (or a band tee) with a bomber jacket . Bomber jackets are super stylish and can take any casual outfit up a notch. This weatherproof jacket is lightweight, so it won’t be too heavy for an outdoor show.
WHAT TO WEAR TO A CONCERT
Half the fun of attending a live concert is picking out what to wear, right? You want to stand out in a sea of fans but still be comfortable enough to dance your butt off all night long. Need a bit of inspiration? Check out these 15 ideas for what to wear to a concert. Rock on!
Bodycon Skirt + Tee + Studded Heels
Do you love getting dressed up for events but still want to look like you just threw on an amazing outfit? Julie of Sincerely, Jules absolutely killed it with this gray bodycon skirt. The studded heels add a bit of bling to dress it up. Swap out the denim for a leather jacket for extra edge, or swap a basic tee for a sheer top.
Leather Overalls + Biker Boots
Looking for something super-trendy with a bit of edge? Give a pair of leather shortalls a go. If you’re daring like Chiara of The Blonde Salad, wear a sporty white bra or crop top underneath and team with a funky pair of shoes. We love sneakers or loafersâcute and, more importantly, comfy.
Flowy Dress + Western-Inspired Ankle Boots
If Jack Johnson ever decides to leave his island home again, we know what we’ll be wearing. A simple flowy dress is the easiest way to be comfortable and stylish at a summer concert. We love how Kimberly of Eat Sleep Wear juxtaposed her breezy boho dress with Western-inspired booties. Add a floppy hat and sunglasses for outdoor summer days.
Slit Skirt + Simple Tank + Sandals
A simple outfit like this is perfect for outdoor music festivals in the summer. Trine’s breezy skirt keeps her covered yet cool, and a simple top dresses down the look for an effortless vibe. Add a strappy pair of sandals or metallic slip-ons, and don’t forget your carryall bag (with lots of sunscreen!).
Lace Romper + Cowboy Boots
No country-show look is complete without a trusty pair of cowboy boots. We love the way Aimee of Song of Style gave hers a sweet vibe by pairing them with a lace romper. A lightweight denim jacket or chambray shirt is perfect for when the sun sets and the bassâer, temperatureâdrops.
We fell in love with the sporty trend that ruled summer 2014, and, lucky for us, it translates into the perfect outfit for a concert. The white-on-white-on-white of Christina of Trop Rouge’s ensemble is chic. Keep your look monochromatic, and add a pop of color with accessories.
Graphic Sweatshirt + Red Lips
A graphic sweatshirt and a well-fitted pair of jeans make a simple and effortless look for any concert. Channel Sheryl of Walk in Wonderland adds extra sass with a bold red lip. Swap the heeled booties for sneakers for more comfort (though the booties look totally BA).
Graphic Dress + Denim Jacket + Fedora
Dressing up for a concert is a great time to play with colors and patterns. The striking red-and-black pattern on Saray’s shift dress stands out in a crowd. Swipe on some graphic liquid eyeliner, and toss on a structured wide-brimmed hat for a cool yet effortless vibe. Chunky booties are the perfect finishing touch (plus your feet will be safe when you venture into the mosh pit).
Black on Black on Black
An all-black ensemble is a no-brainer when it comes to concert attire. Swap out the usual black pants and black top for a black midi dress and leather booties. A leather jacket toughens it up a bit. Bonus points if yours is customized like Denielle’s of We Wore What. Now that’s badass.
Patterned Pants + Loose Top
Looking for something comfy yet stylish to wear to a concert? We’re obsessed with these loose cotton pants and this silky top on Lucy of Fashion Me Now. Toss a blazer over top for a more refined look, or wear the duo as is to a concert on the beach.
Circle Skirt + Slit Top
A circle skirt and a comfy top is our favorite go-to outfit for a summer concert. Sarah of Framboise Fashion paired her ensemble with heels, but we think a white pair of sneaks would do the trick too. Whether you’re sitting on the green taking in the summer tunes or dancing your ass off in a sweaty arena, this outfit is sure to steal the show.
Boyfriend Jeans + White Tee + Sneakers
Grunge is at the apex of a huge comeback, and what better venue than a concert to show your love for the ’90s? Whether you groove to Garbage or swoon at the voice of Jeff Mangum, you can’t go wrong with a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans and a simple white top. Toss on a chain-link bag and animal-print sneakers to complete the look.
Cutoffs + Kimono
Cutoffs are a summer music festival stapleâno news there. This year, up your style game with a floor-length floral kimono. Look for one with pops of color and small details like fringed hems. Team with a pair of moto booties for all-day comfort in style.
Floral Dress + Tough Boots
A floral dress teamed with tough boots is part girly, part grunge. We love the skater cut of Rumi Neely’s ’90s floral dress. Add an oversized and distressed denim jacket to keep you warm in the cool nighttime breeze. Now can we see the Coachella lineup, please?
Leather Skirt + Sweatshirt + Beanie
If Kylie Jenner is your style idol, you’ll love this look (plus Kanye would totally approve, we think). Start with a leather circle skirt, and then add either a sweatshirt or an oversize graphic teeâthe sportier the betterâup top. Finish with a wordy beanie and high-top sneaks for a flirty and sassy concert outfit.
What to Wear to a Concert Male
If you’re going to a concert, what should you wear? It’s important to pick out an outfit that will show off your personality and make you feel confident. You don’t want to feel like you’re trying too hard or not enough. Here are some tips for finding the perfect concert outfit!
Pants – Jeans are always good for concerts because they’re comfortable and easy to move around in. If you have a more formal event planned after the concert, try wearing black pants instead of jeans so they won’t get dirty while dancing!
Shirts – T-shirts are also a great option for concerts because they’re easy to wash off after getting sweaty on stage or in front of the crowd! If it’s cold outside though, consider wearing something warmer like a sweatshirt or hoodie underneath your shirt so that no one sees how cold your arms are getting!
Shoes – Sneakers are super popular right now so go ahead and wear those if they fit well with your outfit! They’ll make sure your feet stay comfortable throughout the whole night without having any problems with blisters or anything else like that happening.
If you’re going to a concert, you want to make sure that you look your best. Whether it’s a rock show or a classical recital, there are some basic rules that apply no matter what type of music is being played.
First and foremost, remember that this is not the time for fancy outfits or formal wear. If you’re going to an outdoor concert in the summertime, shorts and t-shirts are definitely acceptable–even encouraged! If it’s an indoor venue, however, it’s best to stick with jeans or khakis and button-down shirts or polo shirts.
If you’re going up against crowds of people who may not be as well-dressed as yourself (and let’s face it: chances are good that they won’t be), make sure that your clothes aren’t too tight or revealing–you don’t want anyone feeling uncomfortable around you!
The first thing to consider when dressing for a concert is the venue. If you’re going to an outdoor concert, then you’ll want to wear something that will keep you cool and protected from the elements. If it’s an indoor venue, on the other hand, you can get away with more casual clothes.
When choosing what to wear, think about how long you’ll be standing in line before going inside–if it’s going to be a while, make sure that your shoes are comfortable enough for long walks (and maybe even running). You also want to pay attention to how many layers you’ll need: if it’s cold outside or there’s a chance of rain, bring a jacket or sweater just in case!
If it’s cold out but not raining yet, consider bringing along some gloves or mittens so that when temperatures drop later on during the show they don’t catch anyone off guard!
As far as shirts go⊠well⊠shirts are always good!
Wearing the right clothes to a concert can be a tricky thing. You want to look good, but you also want to feel comfortable and be able to dance! Here are some tips for what to wear when you’re going out for a night of music:
When it comes to dressing for a concert, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, consider the venue. If you’re going to a small club or bar, you might want to wear something that’s more casual and comfortable. But if it’s a large stadium concert, then more formal attire may be appropriate.
Second, think about who else will be at the concert. If there are going to be lots of kids at the show (like at an Arcade Fire or Taylor Swift show), then maybe jeans and a t-shirt aren’t such a good idea–you don’t want your kid looking like he/she doesn’t belong! But if everyone else is dressed down as well, then go ahead and wear whatever makes you feel comfortable!
Thirdly⊠well, thirdly there isn’t much else we can tell you about what to wear to concerts because we don’t know how many people read these articles before their favorite band comes on stage!
When you’re going to a concert, you want to be comfortable and look good. You also want to make sure you’re wearing the right outfit for the occasion. Here are some tips on what to wear to a concert male:
-Choose something that’s easy to move in. You’ll be dancing, so make sure your clothes aren’t too restrictive or tight fitting.
-Wear something that makes you feel confident and cool! If you don’t feel good in it, then don’t wear it!
-Make sure your shoes are comfortable enough for standing up all night long!
When you’re going to a concert, you want to make sure that you’re dressed appropriately. While it’s true that most concerts are casual, there are still some things to consider when choosing your outfit.
When dressing for a concert, remember that it’s not just about looking good–it’s also about being comfortable. You don’t want to be fidgeting with an uncomfortable shirt or pants all night long!
Here are some tips for what to wear when heading out for a show:
For a concert, you’re going to want to dress in clothes that are comfortable, but also stylish.
You don’t have to wear anything too fancy–just make sure everything is clean and pressed. If you’re going to be doing a lot of dancing or moving around, make sure your shoes are comfortable.
And if you plan on sitting in the audience for most of the show, you may want to consider wearing jeans instead of slacks or dress pants–jeans will give you more room to move around and feel comfortable during the performance!
If you’re going to a concert, it’s important to make sure that your outfit is on point. You don’t want to be the guy who shows up in a t-shirt and jeans–you want to look like you mean business!
Here are some tips for what to wear:
- Wear something comfortable. You’ll probably be standing around for a while, so make sure whatever clothes you choose are easy to move in.
- Make sure your shoes match the rest of your outfit–and they should be comfortable! You don’t want blisters on top of all the other stressors of attending an event like this one!
- Don’t forget accessories! A nice watch or bracelet can help complete your look and make sure people know how important this concert is for you!
If you’re planning on attending a concert, there are a few things to consider when selecting your attire.
First, think about the venue. Is it outdoors? Indoors? What kind of climate will you be experiencing? You don’t want to be too hot or too cold.
Second, think about what kind of music is being performed. If it’s an outdoor festival, you might want to wear shorts and a tank top–but if it’s an indoor concert hall that’s going to be freezing cold, then maybe jeans and a sweater would be better.
Finally, think about how formal or informal the event is going to be. Do you need to dress up for this concert? Is it more casual than formal?
When you’re heading to a concert, you’ll want to make sure that your outfit is perfect. Here are some tips on what to wear:
Shoes: You should wear a dress shoe or boot with a heel. If you’re wearing sandals, make sure they’re closed-toe and have no exposed toes.
Pants: Pants should be formal but not too formal. Make sure they are dark in color and don’t have any holes or tears in them. They also shouldn’t be too tight or too loose.
Shirt: Make sure there are no stains on the front of your shirt or on the collar area. It should be long enough so it covers your chest but not too long or tight around the neck area. The shirt should also have sleeves that aren’t too short or too long (they need to be just right). Your shirt should be buttoned up all the way up until where it meets your pants (you don’t want any part of your shirt showing below that point).
Tie: You can wear a tie if you want, but keep in mind that it’s not necessaryâand if you do decide to wear one, make sure it’s matching!
Concerts are a good opportunity to show off your style. But, you have to be careful about what you wear.
You don’t want to go out in a t-shirt and jeansâit’s going to look too casual. You can wear something like a concert T-shirt or some dress pants, but don’t wear anything too popular or flashy. Instead, keep it simple and classic.
You don’t need to wear a suit; just stick with something that looks nice, like dress slacks or nice jeans. If you’re going to wear a sport coat, make sure it’s not too tight around the waist because it may look like you’re trying too hard or dressing up when really you’re just trying to be fashionable but casual at the same time! Make sure that your shoes match what you’re wearing and have good styleâthese are important things because they’ll help make the overall look more flattering on you.
What to wear to a concert?
The obvious answer is, of course, a suit. But that’s not all there is to it. You’ll want to consider the temperature in the venueâare you going to be chilling out on the floor, or are you going to be up at the front of the stage? You’ll want to think about what kind of shoes you’re going to wearâare they going to get in the way if you want your feet free for dancing? And how much space do you need? Are you going to be able to move around comfortably or do you want something that will keep your legs free?
The last thing we’d recommend is a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. It’s true that jeans are comfortable and easy on your wallet but they’re also not very formal. In addition, most concerts aren’t very hot so there’s no need for a heavy coat either!
Concerts are a great place to show off your style, and there’s no better place to do that than at a concert. You can wear whatever you like, but here are a few tips for making sure you look great while doing it:
Dress in layers. It’s always best to layer up when it gets cold or windy. You want to be able to take off your outer layer if the weather changes quickly.
Wear comfortable shoes. Even if you’re just walking around the venue, it’s important that your shoes fit comfortably. If they don’t, then you won’t be able to dance or run around with abandon!
Make sure your hair is clean and styled properly. While we’re not saying you need to blow-dry your hair before going outâwe do recommend keeping it neat and tidyâyou definitely want to make sure everything from your scalp down looks presentable.
It’s the perfect time to get out and enjoy a concertâand here’s how:
- Dress in layers. You’ll need a warm layer for when it gets cold, a windbreaker for when it gets windy, and another layer that you can take off when it gets hot.
- Wear socks. You don’t want to be sitting on your feet all night!
- Bring along a hat or bandana to cover up your hair if it gets too hot or cold respectively.
For a concert, you want to look like you’re going to watch a show. You don’t have to wear a suit, but it’s best if you can look like you’re going somewhere important.
If the concert is formal, then wear something nice–maybe even a suit or tuxedo. If it’s not formal, but still important, then go for jeans and a button-up shirt with a nice jacket or blazer over top.
If you’re going to a concert, there’s one thing that’s absolutely essential: your outfit.
You don’t want to be the guy who shows up wearing the same thing as everyone else, and you definitely don’t want to be the guy who shows up wearing something that makes you look like an idiot.
So what should you wear? Here are some tips:
What to Wear to a Concert: Men’s Edition
When you’re planning on going to a concert, it can be hard to know what to wear. You want to look good and be comfortable, but you also want to be able to dance and sing along with your favorite artists. We’ve got you covered! Here are some tips for what to wear when attending a concert:
If you’re going to a concert and want to look your best, it’s important to consider the type of music you’ll be seeing. If the artist is a pop star or rapper, you might want to wear something more casual and comfortable–jeans and a T-shirt will do just fine. If the artist is more folk or rock-oriented, though, consider dressing up in something that shows off your personal style.
If you’re not sure what kind of concert you’ll be attending, there are some general guidelines for what men should wear:
-Wear dark colors (black or blue) if possible; they’re less likely to clash with any stage lighting or other performers’ outfits than lighter colors like white or yellow would be
-Make sure that whatever shoes you wear have thick soles so they won’t sink into the floor during dancing sequences (you don’t want people thinking they’re watching an interpretive dance performance instead of a concert!)
The best way to dress for a concert is to wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident, but also appropriate for the venue.
For example, if you’re going to see an indie rock band at a dive bar, don’t wear your best suit–you’ll stick out like a sore thumb! On the other hand, if you’re going to see Fleetwood Mac at Madison Square Garden, you might want to tone down the jeans and t-shirt look with something more formal.
If you’re a guy going to a concert, it’s important to dress appropriately.
Dress in comfortable clothes that allow you to move around easily. You might want to wear jeans, shorts, or sweatpants–anything that feels good and allows you to move freely.
A T-shirt is also an excellent choice for men at concerts because it can easily be layered with other clothing items if needed. A long-sleeved shirt works well too because it will keep your arms warm while keeping them covered from any potential sunburns.
If the weather is cold outside then make sure that you bring along some gloves or mittens so that your hands don’t get cold while waiting in line for tickets or inside the venue itself!
If you’re planning on attending a concert, there are a few things you should keep in mind when it comes to what to wear.
First and foremost, you want to make sure that whatever outfit you choose is comfortable. You’ll be standing for long periods of time and possibly dancing, so it’s important that your clothing isn’t too restrictive or tight.
You also want to think about how much space there will be at the venue where you’re going. If it’s a large space with lots of people, then dark colors may be best because they won’t get dirty as easily as lighter ones would. If it’s a small venue with fewer people, then lighter colors may work better because they won’t stand out as much against all of those dark outfits around them!
If you’re going to a concert, it’s important to dress appropriately.
While some people might think that a concert is just like any other social event, it is actually quite different. The music and the performers are the focus of attention at a concert, which means that everything else should be secondary–including your clothing.
If you want to make sure that you look good while also maintaining an appropriate level of modesty, here are some tips for what to wear:
- Make sure your clothes fit well and are comfortable enough for dancing or moshing (depending on the type of concert). You don’t want anything too tight or too loose!
- Choose dark colors over bright ones–they tend to look better in low lighting situations like concerts often have!
- Wear shoes that won’t get ruined by spilled beer or sweat from dancing too hard!
It’s no secret that a concert can be an exciting and fun experience, but it’s also a lot of work. You have to get there early, find your seat and then wait for the show to start. And once it does, you have to be ready for all kinds of things: cheering, jumping up and down and singing along with your favorite artists!
That’s why it’s important that you wear clothes that are comfortable enough for you to move around in–but also stylish enough for everyone else at the concert not to look at you like “who is this weirdo?” So what should you wear?
First off: shoes! You’ll want something comfortable enough for walking around or standing for hours on end–which means no heels! Sneakers or flats are perfect for this kind of event because they won’t cramp up your feet but will still make sure everyone knows who YOU are when they see those shoes!
Next: pants/shorts/skirt. You want something that will keep your legs covered but not too hot–so think about whether it will be cold outside (if so, jeans might be best) or if it’ll be warm inside (then maybe go with shorts).
If you’re a guy and you’re going to a concert, there are a few things to keep in mind. First of all, make sure you have comfortable shoes. You don’t want to be standing for hours on end in uncomfortable shoes!
Second of all, wear something that makes you feel good about yourself. If you feel good about yourself, then everyone else will too!
And thirdly (this is important), wear black pants and a white shirt. It doesn’t matter what kind of black pants or white shirt–just as long as they’re black and white!
When you’re going to a concert, you want to look your best. That means dressing in clothes that make you feel confident and comfortable. Here are some tips for what to wear:
If you’re going to a concert, you want to look your best.
The best way to do that is to wear something that makes you feel confident and comfortable.
Here are some tips for what to wear if you’re a male:
- Don’t wear jeans–they don’t look good in the dark and they’re not very comfortable.
- Avoid short-sleeved shirts–they’re not very cool when it’s hot out, and they make it harder for people at the concert to see your arms when they’re waving them around during the show!
- Don’t wear white or black socks–they’ll get dirty quickly and then they won’t match anything else in your outfit anymore!
When you’re headed to a concert, it’s important to be prepared. Here are some tips on what to wear and how to take care of yourself during your evening out:
- Wear comfortable shoes. You’ll want to be able to dance and move around, so make sure your footwear is up for the task.
- Dress in layers. It can get cold inside venues and warm outside them, so make sure you have something that will keep you comfortable no matter what the temperature is like when you arrive at the venue or when you leave!
- Bring cash–or at least enough cash to buy food while you’re there! Most venues don’t take cards (or if they do take cards, there’s usually an extra fee), so make sure that if there’s somewhere nearby where you can get food without paying extra for using plastic (like a gas station), bring enough money for that instead of relying on credit cards or debit cards at the venue itself.

A Look Back At 53 Of Erykah Baduâs Most Iconic Beauty Looks
Erykah Badu is in a genre of her own (and sheâs sensitive about her sh**). From her debut album Baduizm â which won the artist her first two Grammy Awards in 1998â to her latest mixtape But You Caint Use My Phone , Badu birthed musical compositions that ring in our ears like the bells she straps to her ankle . She is a musician, and according to herself, a â UNICORN Mutant Cobra jumpin’ time linesâ which represents the intuitive taste of her now 53-year-old lifeline. She is a force, not only of sound but beauty: known for her head wraps, long beaded braids, tuning fork grills, stained fingertips, and custom hairpieces to complement indescribable inspiration.
At the start of her career in the â90s, Badu became the mother of intrinsic beautyâ like with her cloudy yellow eyeshadow and string-seamed head wrap at the 12th Annual Soul Train Awards, as she cradled her four trophies. For the 2000âs ESSENCE Awards, the artist appeared in one of our favorite looks: Twiggy-esque eyelashes , gold eyeshadow and thick locs, before shaving her head bald the following year (cue the 15th Soul Train Awards). Her ethereal vibe continued to radiate through her hairstyles: from knee-long, bobby-pinned micro-braids at the BET Telethon Relief to â60s pin curls at Dave Chapelleâs Block Party in â06.
As time went on, her looks became more experimental. For example, her blonde bowl-cut shocked the audience at the 2010 Cypress Hill Smokeout Music Festival. Meanwhile, she arrived to the 2013 BET Awards with faux Strawberry Shortcake freckles. And then, at the 2017 Fashion Awards, she showed off her African hair threading with shaved brows and a tooth chain. As for the past few years, her looks have grown even more grand. Think: her metallic foil fringe hairdo at 2019âs Way Out West Festival or literally any of her front row fashion week looks. And weâd be remiss to leave out her latest achievement as GQ Germanyâs Music Icon Of The Year , where she rocked red hair beads and smeared her mouth in over-lined lipstick.
Below, celebrate Erykah Baduâs 53rd birthday today with her most iconic beauty looks of all time.

‘We All Zoomed In on That First Pic’: Erykah Badu’s âCakeageâ Has Fans Gasping for Air After She Shows Off Her Assets In New Photos
Erykah Baduâs assets were front and center in the singerâs most recent Instagram dump.
The âOn & Onâ neo-soul artist shared a carousel of images that gave her 6.2 million followers a deeper look into her current summer tour, âUnfollow Me,â with Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def .
Badu started her collage off strong, posting a photo of her backside as she faced the DJ booth. In the photo, she can be seen wearing a T-shirt with âHELMETâ written on the back in all uppercase. Two large pink bows rested on Baduâs shoulders.
She traded in pants for a pair of knee-high boots with a brown strap around her waist, accentuating her curvaceous figure that showed through a black pair of underwear.
âUnfollow Me Tour 23,â she wrote as her caption.
The 52-year-old’s post attained over 260,000 likes with over 3,100 comments. A few more images included photos of Badu facing the crowd and a closeup of a strawberry, seemingly to represent her plump buttocks. However, social media users couldnât help but mention her cheeky cakes in the first slide.
âSafe to say we all zoomed in on that first pic.â âThat thang been thangin for 20+ years lawd.â âYes the cakeage is monumental.â
âCake by the pound.â âThis slide just did something to me spirituallyâŠâ
Badu has never been afraid to show off what genetics have given her, and it is proven through photos sheâs taken with her daughter, Puma Sabti Curry. The mother-and-daughter duo faced backlash after Curry shared a flick of them posing in form-fitting pants, which caused commotion online.

Despite the think pieces from critics, Badu and Curry remained unfazed by it all.
Badu also showed off her rump last July after she joined âCaptain Hookâ rapper Megan Thee Stallion on stage to show off her Meg knees.
The two Houston natives were together at Meganâs concert in Switzerland when the rapperâs song âKitty Katâ came on. This prompted Badu to shake her rump right before she decided to get on all fours and drop it like it was hot.
Her performance not only mesmerized the amped-up crowd but also riled up Megan, who was seen jumping up and down in adoration.

Erykah Badu Was Paris Fashion Weekâs Clear Street Style Winner
Now that Paris Fashion Week has wrapped, we can formally declare Erykah Badu the spring 2023 seasonâs street style winner. The 51-year-old musician stood out at show after show, and not just because she could reliably be found in one of her signature towering hats. A large part of how Badu knocked it out of the park was her bold approach to footwear. She first put the focus on her feet at Thursdayâs Rick Owens show, which she attended wearing a truly innovative take on the so-called ugly shoe . The pair that had her feet looking like they had bright red tentacles came courtesy of Myah Hasbany, a Central Saint Martins student who first caught Baduâs attention when he was just a teen. (She technically classifies them as âsea anemoneâ leg warmers rather than shoes.) It would go on to become one of several instances in which she championed the up-and-comer, who has yet to turn 21, and his experimental knitwear.
Badu completed the look with an oversized black jacket and a number of chunky bangles, which she made sure to show off in the video below. (It almost goes without saying that she also accessorized with a top hat.)

Just two hours later, Badu went to see Ib Kamaraâs Off-White debut wearing a new kind of statement footwear. She matched another oversized hat with a knee-high pair of boots that also bore a bit of resemblance to tentacles.

The big tentacles were back on Friday, when Badu proved that she had another set of Myah Hasbanys in her wardrobe. She hit the streets in a grey pair worn with casual grey track pants and yet another large hat.

After a brief break from the front rowâon her Instagram Stories, Badu shared that she was somehow finding time to record music during her Paris stayâshe returned to the spotlight in a feathery showcase of Valentinoâs signature hue. It ended up being the first of two hot pink Valentino looks. The evening saw Badu step out in a slightly different shade of pink, again in the form of a hat and coat that stretched down to her toes.

The next day, Badu attended her final show of the season fully decked out in Thom Browne. At first, it seemed like we wouldnât get to see her final footwear choice. But when her floor-length striped skirtâwhich she paired with a grey blazer draped casually over her shouldersâraised as she went up the steps of the OpĂ©ra National, we got a glimpse: a laced pair of platforms with heels made of toy blocks. Quite the fitting choice for someone whose approach to fashion can be summed up as playful.

The Second Coming of Erykah Badu

Erykah Badu likes to wear clothes that make music when she walksâitâs why today she has strings of bells strapped to her ankles. She also has a tangle of amethyst crystal pendants thrown over her paint-splattered overalls, gigantic silver rings on each finger, rubber bangles stacked up to her elbows, and a red beanie pulled over her hair. Standing on the porch of her South Dallas childhood home, a modest white clapboard house where her mother still lives, sheâs serving a look thatâs part shamanic priestess, part artist at work. This is a Tuesday in mid-December and the area has been under a tornado watch all morning, unusual for this time of year. But now the clouds have parted, and the normal soundsâbirds, trafficâof the tree-lined neighborhood are filtering in. âI grew up listening to these trucks and cars pass by,â she says, motioning toward the freeway, her tiny flip-flop-shod feet jingling as she approaches the door. âThe vibration is familiar, soothing, like wind chimes.â
The door opens and out bounds the welcoming committee: an excitable snow white Malt-Tzu. âHi, Tyrone,â she purrs, petting the puppy, named after Baduâs most enduring single from 1997, a hilarious freestyle about a deadbeat boyfriend. Baduâs mother is Kolleen, goes by Queenie. âOnce you meet her, yâall are going to forget all about me,â the 51-year-old Badu says. In other words, if you want to know where Badu got her trademark irreverence, her mischievous wit, itâs best to come here and call on Queenie.

TOPPING IT OFF  âI feel Iâve poked this hole in the damâŠand all this water is seeping through,â says four-time Grammy winner Badu, 51, of her influence.Â
Born Erica Abi Wright, Badu was raised by a circle of womenâQueenie (whoâd separated from Baduâs father when Badu was a girl), and also her grandmothers Thelma Gipson and Viola Wilson, and godmother Gwen Hargrove. They were all educators and caregivers by trade who used humor to navigate lifeâs ups and downs. âI thought Richard Pryor was my daddy for a long time,â Badu deadpans. âItâs the only male voice I heard in the house.â The family has lived in Dallas for decades, and it was in this near-100-year-old home that the singer-songwriter picked up her ear for music: Chaka Khan, Pink Floyd, Phoebe Snow, Prince, and Rick James. All were a running soundtrack for game nights and birthday parties. âIt was a little-girl factory,â Badu remembers.
Today the place is relatively quietâher younger brother, Eevin, and younger sister, Koryan, have yet to arriveâand Queenie is holding court. âMy mother was the historian, she kept every article,â Queenie tells me, referring to her mother, Thelma, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 93. âEvery day she would cut out clippings and paste them into different frames.â Several of those lovingly assembled collages of Badu memorabilia hang on the rose-colored walls alongside family photographs, including pictures of Baduâs three children: Seven, 25, the son she shares with OutKast member AndrĂ© 3000; Puma, 18, her daughter by rapper The D.O.C.; and daughter Mars, 14, whose father is the hip-hop artist-producer Jay Electronica. Thereâs also a sizable portrait of Queenie herself, resplendent with her Cleopatra-style honey blond bob.
Sheâs recalling the surprise of Baduâs first appearance in the newspaper: a street style picture of her 14-year-old in the lifestyle section of the Dallas Morning News. Badu was an avid theater kid then, and amateur dancer, and was dressed for the photographer in pajamas rolled at the waist and a menâs suit jacket. (Badu would have her first real headline-making moment in 1994âa solo deal with Universal Recordsâafter she opened a DâAngelo show in Fort Worth with her cousin Robert Bradford as a hip-hop duo named Erykah Free.) âI mean, if you saw her then you might have thought she found her clothes rummaging through a donation bin in the church basement,â says QueenÂie. âShe dressed outrageously. And she had this high-top fade.â In Queenie you can see Baduâs meticulous approach to self-âpresentation, in her black leggings and striped shirt accessorized with chunky tortoiseshell glasses and a necklace of amber and turquoise stones. âI know now that it was her style,â Queenie says. âShe always was a trendsetter.â
From the moment Badu floated onto the scene with her genre-defining 1997 album Baduizm, the iconoclastic star has made personal style a radical calling card. In that era, standing tall on platform shoes with a towering headwrap, signature ankh jewelry, and a smoldering incense stick between her fingertips, she projected a powerful, mystical image of Black beauty. Even then she was an old soul who seemed cosmically aligned with the future, with a haunting, blues-inflected voice often compared to Billie Holidayâs. The sound itself, a hybrid of hip-hop, soul, jazz, and funk dubbed âneo-soulâ (see also DâAngelo, Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, and Maxwell) offered a countermovement to the commercial R&B of the time, one that was both soulful and socially conscious.

Longtime friend and collaborator, the DJ and producer Questlove, was spellbound by Badu at the 1996 Soul Train Awards in Los Angeles. âShe had on the tallest turban Iâve ever seen in my life,â he says. âIt was like she was hiding a three-year-old standing on her head, thatâs how tall her headwrap was. I was just transfixed.â As she tells it, the look was as meaningful as the music. âI remember being among an elite group of young people who were really embracing what it meant to be an African here, generationally,â Badu says. âWe embraced locs and âfros and our natural state, our fabrics and jewelry. It was a beautiful time.â Several years later, in 2008, she would help popularize the phrase âstay wokeâ with âMaster Teacher,â a song on her fourth studio album, New Amerykah Part One, long before it was deployed by young progressives (and then co-opted derisively by conservatives). Badu talks of her enduring influence in philosophical, sometimes esoteric, terms. âI feel Iâve poked this hole in the dam. Itâs this little hole and all this water is seeping through. Now all the people who have the same energy are able to experience what I experience,â she says. âItâs a rebirthing process, and I feel like Iâm a midwife.â
Badu herself is in the midst of a renaissance. Like David Bowie and Grace Jones before her, the four-time Grammy-winning singer is one of those rare, rabble-rousing creatures who orbits the pop-cultural universe and meets the moment entirely on her own terms. Her imagination and joy feel especially relevant now. Sheâs found new ways to connect, sharing radiant backstage videos on TikTok and Instagram, where sheâs a self-described âUNICORN Mutant Cobra,â and engages in lively conversation in the comments. If youâre familiar with her Twitter alias, @fatbellybella, then youâll know sheâs pretty good at giving relationship advice, too. Her musical collaborators cross genres and generations, from hip-hop (A$AP Ferg) to K-pop (RM of BTS) to new-wave R&B (Teyana Taylor).
âOne thing I brag about all the time is that my sister is probably the only artist I know who easily sells out arenas despite not having put out an album in almost a decade,â says sibling Koryan, or Koko for short. âAnd to me this moment feels like her re-blossoming.â Koko once sang backup for Baduâs band but these days acts as her sisterâs right hand. âHer left hand and right hand,â says QueenÂie, cackling. âAnd whatever hand that feeds her!â With a trucker hat pulled over striking waist-length platinum-blond braids, Koko carries herself like a woman who means business. Baduâs turning point, she explains, came when the pandemic brought touring to a halt. The pivot was swift and effective: the launch of Badubotron, a streaming platform hosting concerts from Baduâs home that could be viewed for the nominal fee of $1. These attracted more than a hundred thousand fans enamored of Baduâs elaborate costumes, wild performances, and otherworldly DIY sets. In one of her shows, Badu and her band appeared to perform inside huge inflatable bubbles. Badu World Market, the singerâs popular online merch store, also went live. âWe just kind of came together as a family and it was like, Oh, we actually have a company right here ,â says Koko, whose son, Malcolm, and daughter, Diamond, also work for brand Badu. âEveryone stepped up.â
The latest member of the family to join the team is Baduâs daughter Puma, who seems the most likely to carry on the Badu mantle. Listen to her covering her motherâs songs on TikTok with your eyes closed, and itâs almost impossible to tell their voices apart. In person sheâs shy and soft spoken, dressed in a distressed oversized black-and-white sweater with spiral curls peeking out of her bonnet and framing her face. She and boyfriend Sean have been serving as Baduâs personal assistants for a little over a year, which means, among other things, ensuring Badu has the 15 to 20 trunks of clothing and accessories she needs on tour. âI donât know how other family workplace dynamics go,â Puma says, âbut itâs like a real job, and I have to buckle down and do what I need to do or else word is going to get to the CEO and Iâm not going to get paid. You know what I mean?â
Badu isnât the office-dwelling type, but for the past year and a half she has kept a creative working space on the other side of town, just a few minutesâ drive away from the lakefront ranch sheâs lived in for the past 25 years (and which is currently under renovation). From the outside, the modern loft-style house is hardly the bohemian retreat Iâd imaginedâthough Baduâs dove-gray Porsche is parked in the driveway with the license plate SHE ILL.
LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER âPuma is a very giving person,â Badu says of her 18-year-old daughter, pictured here. âI really like the lady sheâs becoming.â Badu wears an R13 T-shirt. Puma Curry wears a Banana Republic T-shirt.
Inside, itâs a veritable Aladdinâs cave of tchotchkes and objets dâart, with Buddha statues lining the staircase, African masks hanging on the walls, and Indian marigold garlands strung in the windows. Badu greets me at the door in a dramatic silk Libertine caftan printed with amusing pictures of monkeys in space suits and leads me past her recording studio to the living area, where two larger-than-life Malian brass busts have glowing sticks of incense sprouting from their heads. The fireplace casts shadows on vintage furniture, including a throne-like peacock love seat and a retro-âfuturist egg pod chair. In the corner, an upright piano is buttressed by a stack of vintage Louis Vuitton trunks. âAlexa, play wind chimes,â says Badu, setting the mood.
I canât help but ask if Badu keeps any of her legendary wardrobe hereâand this prompts a tour. We begin in the kitchen with a zippered black Junya Watanabe Commes des Garçons biker jacket casually draped over a barstool with the tags still on. âI canât decide whether to keep it or not,â she says, smiling coyly, even though the conceptual curved shoulder looks as easy as a slouchy cardigan on herâitâs a no-brainer. Iâm reminded of how the fashion world seems to be catching up to Badu: Her counterintuitive approach to layering amid extreme proportions, her magpie eye for vintage, and the impulse to upcycle or customize just about everything she wears feels in step with our current moment. âThe first thing you always see is her, and then itâs like, Oh, my God, thatâs what she has on!â says her friend Thom Browne who has dressed her for several occasions, including the Met Gala in 2021. âItâs just that aura of true individuality, true greatness, and superstardom.â
SOFT POWER Yohji Yamamoto dress and hat.
It was only last September that Badu took to the global Fashion Week circuit in a real way. At Vogue World in New York, she made her runway debut in a plaid ERL suit layered over a Bode tunic, her neck dripping in her own eclectic jewelry. At the Tom Ford show a couple of nights later, she accessorized a pair of his glitzy rhinestone Aladdin pants with a faux-fur headdress. Then, after a pit stop in London for Burberry, and in Milan for Bottega Veneta, she pulled out a dazzling array of outfits for Thom Browne, Rick Owens, and Off-White in Paris. She ended her circuit at Valentino, where she reinvented the Italian brandâs popular Barbie pink, deftly pulling a hoodie up from under her marabou-feathered coat and piling on a gigantic hat.
To hear her tell it, Badu only really came to understand the world of fashion late in her career. âI didnât know all the houses and names of designers until I was in my 30s or 40s,â she says. âWhat I had was a good understanding of look and shape, the way I did with paper dolls when I was a child.â She rarely works with a stylist, does her own hair and makeup on the road, and still loves the thrill of the hunt when trawling local vintage stores. âFor me, itâs about seeing things coming together, like making a cake from beginning to end,â she says.
Marniâs creative director Francesco Risso found himself mesmerized by her process as he put the finishing touches on the capsule collection made in partnership with the singer. âIâve worked with celebrities in the past, and there are times that you struggle with them because itâs so much about the body, or how it looks in a picture. With Erykah, itâs a completely new world,â says Risso, recalling the moment he found her in a hotel room in London experimenting with the first samples. âI was blown away seeing her playing with clothes, just jumbling everything up. Itâs just so innate. With her, itâs not just about making music. Sheâs iconic because what comes with her is a lifestyle, itâs a complete world.â
KNIT GIRL âWe embraced locs and âfros and our natural state, our fabrics and jewelry. It was a beautiful time,â Badu says of the mid-â90s neo-soul scene. Badu and her daughter Puma wear Prada.Â
It all began when Risso, whoâd long admired Badu from afar, invited the singer to be his date at the Met Gala last year. The outfit he made for her was a glorious Technicolor dreamcoat, a throwback to a patchwork dress that Badu designed herself and wore to the Grammys in 1999. The updated version was comprised of hundreds of swatches of fabrics from the Marni archives, and proved to be the perfect springboard for their collaboration.
Settled into a pile of floor cushions in her meditation room and flicking through a look book on her iPad, Badu describes the Marni collection as something of an audiovisual experience, what she calls âmystical instrumental wear.â She zooms in on a pair of gold leather boots to better show me the little gold bells that are studded on from ankle to knee. On a matching gold leather handbag, the same hardware has a tambourine effect. Even the party dresses in the collection come embellished with jumbo sequins that rustle while you walk. âA lot of this stuff has stories,â says Badu. âThe high hats, of course, the towering thoughts.â She pauses on a particularly arresting outfit on the screen: a belted patchwork leather trench worn with a matching knit topper that was inspired by one she was made to wear for an educational YouTube skit before she was famous. âThe funny thing is I embraced the hat and made it into something wonderful, because itâs something I once dreaded.â
Baduâs 2023 to-do list is seemingly endless and written in all caps on a board that hangs in the kitchen, lest she forgetsâthis month, for example, sheâs dropping a collection of smoking accessories and her own blend of marijuana. Tonight, her thoughts are preoccupied with creative labor of a different kind: R&B singer Summer Walker is pregnant with twins, due any day now, and Badu will serve as the 26-year-oldâs doula. âIâm kind of antsy, walking around making sure I have all my things,â she says, pacing between the sink and the stove. This marks her first multiple birth and also the first time that Puma will assist her in this role. âPuma is a very giving person,â she says, pausing to gather her thoughts. âI really like the lady sheâs becoming.â
ENDLESS VISION Marni x Erykah Badu shawl.
When I ask how many babies Badu has helped bring into the world, she shrugs: At this point, sheâs lost count. Itâs been over 20 years since the singer, who is also a certified Reiki master, was first inspired to become a doula after assisting on the labor of a close friend. Now each year she makes time for at least one or two expectant moms, some of whom are friends, others women she meets in passing. âItâs a passion thing for her, sheâs really invested,â says Teyana Taylor, who asked Badu to be her doula after the pair worked on music together in 2020. It was Badu who noticed that Taylorâs now two-year-old daughter, Rue, was showing signs of distress a few days after she was born; Rue was subsequently rushed to the hospital and kept under surveillance for a week. âErykah just felt it,â says Taylor. âShe just knew.â
Motherhood might be the thing that comes most naturally to Badu. As a young girl she dreamed of having seven childrenâand in fact, Badu was a mother almost from the moment she was famous. She became pregnant with her first child about a month after Baduizm was released, and gave birth to her second the same day her sophomore album, Mamaâs Gun, dropped. âI had to breastfeed the whole time,â says Badu, who would also homeschool her children from the back of a tour bus. She jokes that while her male musician friends were busy scoping the audience for groupies, she was looking out for babysitters.
That irrepressible spirit didnât go unnoticed by her peers. âNow we take it for granted because we see so many female entertainers with children. Before, it was the kiss of death for your career,â says her friend Maxwell, who came onto the neo-soul scene a year prior to Badu. âShe actually proved that you can really thrive, that being a mother didnât have to hold you back.â Still, as a woman with three children to three different fathers, who has never been married, Badu has faced her fair share of scrutiny and gossip. In the early aughts, hip-hop blogs were full of snarky commentary about her so-called mystical power over men. (There is a YouTube tutorial called âHow to Erykah Badu a Man.â) âIt was like we were Mormons or something, like all the daddies were living at the house in the same period!â she remembers, throwing her hands up. The real story is that Badu has an amicable relationship with all three of her childrenâs fathersâshe has been a doula for Pumaâs father, The D.O.C., and his now wife twice. Theyâre all highly committed and involved co-parents, a happy blended family.
On the topic of her current relationship status, Badu plays coy. When I ask her if she has a romantic partner, she simply says, âI canât say.â (Most recently, she has been linked to a Dallas-based artist who goes by the name of JaRon The Secret.) At this point in her life, sheâs more prepared to play agony aunt than she is to bare her soul. When I press her on the point, she pulls up a note she sent to her sister, Koko, shortly before officiating her wedding on a beach in Belize last fall. If I want to know her thoughts on what a successful relationship should look like, itâs all here, she tells me: acceptance, patience, honesty, joyful togetherness. Read aloud with her slow, deliberate cadence, the message comes across like an incantation: âWe shall have a long, long life as one or two. One faith, one practice as one or two. Transparency. Hand holding. A whole lot of laughs. Confidence through the fears. Years and years and yearsâŠLetting fruitless things go and fruit will grow. And a nice-sized joint. Easy breaths.â
EDGE OF TOMORROW Badu wears a Loewe sweatshirt. Yohji Yamamoto hat. Balenciaga shoes.
A couple of days later, as Iâm on my way to the airport, I receive a text message from Badu: a collection of photos that includes images Queenie took on my visit, plus a couple of goofy selfies of the singer with her kids. This is Badu at her most playful, the doting mother, auntie, and loyal sister who isnât afraid to act silly for a picture. If she wasnât so exquisitely dressed, with bells on her feet, you might not recognize her as a star.
I text her back: Iâve heard Summer Walker is about to go into laborâhowâs it going? She responds with a smiley face emoji. Pictures of Badu and her daughter Puma and the heavily pregnant Walker are all over InÂÂstagram. I wonder aloud how Pumaâs doing on her first assignment as a doulaâs assistant. But really I neednât worry. If sheâs anything like her mother, sheâs bound to be a natural.Â

The 53-year-old Grammy winner â who professed her crush for actor John Boyega  â commanded attention in a unique ensemble during the red carpet event held in New York City  on Thursday.
Described as a 'black-tie bonanza,'Â the GQ Global Creativity Awards celebrates the 'world's most fearless and inspiring creatives.'Â
Rocking a hand-painted plaid coat, gigantic fuzzy hat and a purse the size of a baby stroller, the Bag Lady hitmaker was the talk of the town.
She added blue leather work gloves to the mix, as she led a cavalcade of stars at the gala, including honorees Hunter Schafer, Lewis Hamilton , Danny McBride, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.Â

Following Badu's accusation that the R&B diva, 42, ripped off her signature beaded bangs, Yvette Noel-Schure, who has worked with Queen Bey since 1997, shared photographic evidence that her client had been rocking similar looks since childhood.Â
Her video montage featured footage, images and, even, Polaroids of the Halo Hitmaker's braided and unique hairstyles over the years on her way to becoming one of the best-selling music artists of all time.Â
'She slays. She slays. Now. Then. Always,' Schure captioned her post.
A few days earlier, Erykah posted BeyoncĂ©'s limited-edition vinyl cover for her eighth studio album Act II: Cowboy Carter, with the pointed caption: 'Hmmm.'Â
Erykah also accused Beyonce of ripping off her style with her outlandish Renaissance World Tour outfits last year. Â
Badu, who is known for breaking style boundaries, took to Instagram to slam Beyonce, 41, for donning an oversized chrome hat which was similar to one worn by Badu onstage .
Sharing Beyonce's post, which showed the superstar bowing her head in the hat, paired with camouflage boots and a glittery IV sports jersey, Badu wrote: 'Hmmm'.
She then shared a post of herself in a near-identical hat and wrote: 'I guess I'm everybody stylist.'

Badu first garnered style kudos upon breaking out on the late 90s music scene for her chameleon-like adaptations of traditional African dress.Â
This comes after Badu was performing in Atlanta when she professed her crush for Star Wars actor John Boyega .
The singer was taking a break between songs during the performance, when she started discussing her crush on the 31-year-old London-born actor, who is in the running to play chef Levi Roots in a biopic.
'If anybody ever see John Boyega, tell that n***a I said hi,' Badu said to the crowd, adding, 'There's a lot of people in the audience, that's why I wanted to say that cause there's enough of y'all for one of y'all to get the message to the man, right,' she joked.
She went on to add that the actor was, 'Fine,' before asking someone in the audience how old he is.
'He under 30? Hell yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Nuts still tough, you know what I'm saying? That's what I be looking for,' she added.
She then broke into her hit 1977 song Tyrone when Boyega came out on stage to surprise her.
'It's good to see you,' Boyega told the singer, who exclaimed, ''It's John Boyega!'Â after giving the actor a hug on stage.
'Make sure you roll one up for me. Thank you,' she said, as Boyega left the stage
Badu said, 'I'm at work, I gotta work,' she told the actor, as her backup singers continued the song, adding, 'Call him,' perhaps as a message to the singer herself.
She later told Boyega, 'I'm gonna go back to the bus later on, after the show, of course. I gotta finish this, then we gonna go back to the bus, is that all right?'
The actor agreed and gave her a kiss on the cheek as she told him, 'They'll give you the key, you can roll one for me,' she said, before freaking out in front of the audience.
'Make sure you roll one up for me. Thank you,' she said, as Boyega left the stage.Â

Beyoncé has been dazzling fans over the last few months with her performances and outfits during the Renaissance World Tour . Erykah Badu took to social media to address the 41-year-old superstar drawing influence from her style choices.
Queen Bey posted photos on Instagram from the East Rutherford, NJ stop of her tour on Sunday (July 30), where she was snapped wearing a blue, white, and orange “IV” jersey, camouflage knee-high boots, and a metallic wide-brimmed hat, a signature piece of Badu’s ensembles over the years.

She exclusively told VIBE the meaning of the title: “It definitely has to do with cancel culture, it’s funny. It’s become a Baduizm, pretty much. Whenever someone says something in the comments, they don’t agree, I don’t care, unfollow me, doesn’t matter.”

I have always wanted to see this queen live
she is not the queen of neo soul. It’s Jill Scott
Whitney is the queen of crack.
Nah Badu is the queen
Whitney was not on crack she is still Queen obviously
Neo soul artists Jaguar wright, Jill Scott, Lauren Hill, Amel Larrieux, Angie Stone , floetry, solonge . India irie, Ericka badu not the queen of neo soul. Jill Scott made it popular and wrote for Erica .
How did Jill Scott make it popular when artists like Erykah, D’Angelo and Maxwell were outselling before she even stepped on the scene? Baduizm outsold everything Jill ever did. No shade to her. Who Is Jill Scott Vol 1 is a classic but she isn’t the queen of neo soul.
DâAngelo and Maxwell are male for queen Erica music is not fully neo soul
Too many artists going on tour at once
It does seem that many artists are going out âon topâ of each other. Consumers pockets are only so big, but I wish Badu, NE, Beyonce, Jill, and Janet successâŠ
Wow thereâs demand for an Erykah Badu arena tour? The woman had two good eras⊠Baduizm and The Bag Lady era. I couldnât tell you what music sheâs released since thenâŠ.and that was the early 2000âsâŠ.
You have no idea what youâre talking about
Technically her last hit was âWindow Seatâ in 2010. She hasnât released much since then. Erykah is very revered as one of the originators of the neo-soul genre. Sheâs still very relevant. Donât forget that part.
She ainât gon sho up for at least an hour. Sing 2-3 songs and she bounced. RUDE and non caring for her fans. Iâm done.

Erykah Badu Responds After BeyoncĂ© Seemingly Fuels Beef While Name-Dropping AndrĂ© 3000 During iHeart Awards âInnovatorâ Acceptance Speech
T he fire that is keeping mutters of the suspected feud between Beyoncé and Erykah Badu a hot topic just went up a notch in temperature.
âCowboy Carterâ mentioned one of her fellow Texanâs exes in her Innovator Award speech at the 2014 iHeart Music Awards on April 1, leaving social media in a frenzy awaiting the âCall Tyroneâ singerâs response.
BeyoncĂ© first began stating, âInnovation starts with the dream, but then you have to execute that dream, and the road can be very bumpy. Being an innovator is seeing what everyone believes is impossible.â
âBeing an innovator often means being criticized, which often will test your mental strength,â she continued, before sharing her hope that the industry will become more open to the âjoy and liberation that comes from enjoying art with no preconceived notions.â
The Recording Academyâs most-decorated artist then dedicated the award to those she reveres as fellow innovators for their sacrifices and âdauntless spiritsâ who defied the labels placed upon them.
Those individuals, in the order she listed, are: Rosetta Tharpe, Miss Tracy Chapman, Linda Martell, Prince, Stevie Wonder, André 3000, Tina Turner, and Michael Jackson. The mention of André piqued the curiosity of more than a few people.
AndrĂ© and Badu dated in the 1990s and share a child together, their adult son, Seven, 25. He has also been a frequent collaborator of BeyoncĂ©âs, having provided a verse on âPartyâ (2011) as well as âFlawlessâ (2013).
A recently resurfaced video also showed him smitten with the singer as she performed âMe, Myself, and Iâ more than two decades ago.
AndrĂ© also revealed that he sought her permission when naming âNinety Three âTil Infinity And BeyoncĂ©â from his album âNew Blue Sun,â which doesnât feature lyrics, just him playing various flutes.
The eclectically soulful half of Outkast told NPR , âI actually had to clear it. I had to call. And thanks, Jay! I text him, I was like, âHey man, can you ask BeyoncĂ©? I know I got this clearance thing coming through for this song.â And I explained to him how I used it.â
Reactions to the award show moment included one person writing , âAndre 3K getting that shoutout from her might make Erykah have an aneurysm,â as well as a second individual who commented , âErykah eye twitching knowing how 3 stacks love beyonce.â
While a third person remarked , âYâall notice how beyonce shouted out Andre 3k in her acceptance speech, to make erykah mad for mentioning Jay z last week.â
The speech shoutout did not go over Baduâs head, as she reshared a post of it in her Instagram Story on April 2, along with âASEO,â though it is unclear what the acronym signifies to her. She also posted a 1961 clip of Pete Steve, a white musician known for playing the âtalking steel guitarâ in country music â which is oddly timed considering BeyoncĂ©âs foray into the genre was met with pushback and controversy.
Most recently, the âBag Ladyâ artist roused some uproar when people assumed she was taking shots at BeyoncĂ© for r ocking Fulani braids and beads for the â Cowboy Carter â cover artwork. She even brought the singerâs husband into the fold as the hive hit her up for the offense. âTo Jay Z . Say somethin Jay. You gone let this woman and these bees do this to me ??â she tweeted.
The proud Houstonianâs longtime publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure , addressed the hair debacle, though without naming Badu, with a video montage of BeyoncĂ© wearing braids throughout her entire professional career. âShe slays. She slays. Now. Then. Always. act ii COWBOY CARTER 3.29 #criticswithoutcredentials,â wrote Noel-Schure.
The Destinyâs Child breakout star has been on Baduâs radar off and on since July 2023, when the neo-soul songstress seemingly called her out by sharing a photo of BeyoncĂ© in an oversized hat during the âRenaissance World Tourâ with the caption âHmm.â
She followed up with a post of herself wearing a similar hat and wrote, âI guess Iâm everybody stylist.â The BeyHive picked up on the threat to their queen and were quick to get in formation to defend her against claims of copying Baduâs swag .
But that swarm did not stop her from taking a jab at her industry colleague and her supporters months later, in September. This time around, Badu slighted concert attendees who obliged BeyoncĂ©âs wishes by dressing in opulent silver outfits when she compared them to the Tin Man from âThe Wizard of Oz.â
She was stung again. Even the entertainer, who rarely offers responses to controversy, gave the Dallas native extra attention when she replaced Lizzo and Kelly Rowlandâs names in the lyrics for âBREAK MY SOUL.â The original lyrics offer a single mention of Badu as opposed to the three she received during the Foxborough, Massachusetts, performance.
Whether Badu is purposely trolling the pop star and her fan base or simply loves the sweet nectar of a feud no one really knew about until last year is unknown. But one thing is for certain, fans are keeping a watchful eye on the two artists.
