Travel the World

Become a Globetrotter

There are many who would love to know how to become a globetrotter, and the good news is that it’s not as hard as one might think. Globetrotters are a unique breed of traveler, they enjoy traveling and experiencing new places. The greatest challenge for any globetrotter is the challenge of how to become one, it sounds a bit corny but it really isn’t. Most globetrots fly to new areas on hot air balloons, which makes it very easy for them to travel. It is this tendency towards travel that makes globetrotters so interesting. In fact, many people get hooked on globetrotting because they can’t seem to get enough of it.

When a person is first introduced to globetrotting, they will often want to know how to become a globetrotter, and the first thing they need to do if they wish to do so is to become a balloon pilot. This is a job that is quite demanding, especially because the person needs to be able to handle the pressure that balloons can cause. If you are serious about becoming a pilot, then you must take at least some flight instruction during your early twenties. There are many flight schools that offer such training, and you should select the one that best suits your interests and level of skill. There are also many clubs that offer flight lessons, and you should join one if you have the time.

After getting your pilot license, you will probably find that you can start your own travel business with little or no experience. Many globetrotters start their travel companies right after their licenses. It can be quite lucrative to travel the world, and a great way to do this is through backpacker packages. These are travel packages that are arranged by backpackers, and these types of trips are more exciting than conventional travel. You can backpack to anywhere in the world, and the money that you earn goes directly to paying for the trips that you take.

One of the most common ways that people earn money while traveling the world is through doing what is called “advance living”. This is when you make money while living in a particular area of the world. For example, you can live in New Zealand, Canada, or even the United States. The only difference is that you are not actually living in the location that you are traveling to. This is a very lucrative business, because you can usually make a good living just from living in different areas of the world. All you have to do is find a location in which you would like to travel and then find a company that specializes in this type of activity.

One of the main goals that any globetrotter has is to eventually open up a business that travels around the world. This is something that requires some serious planning, but it can be done if you have some determination and a willingness to learn. A lot of work must be done before you actually get started, so it is important to know what you are getting into before getting started. Once you become a globetrotter, you will have the chance to fulfill all of your dreams by traveling to an exciting new destination on a consistent basis.

One of the best ways to learn everything that you need to know in order to become a successful globetrotter is to talk with other people who are doing what you want to do. The Internet is one of the best resources for doing just that, and you can find a whole community of people who are willing to share tips and tricks that they have learned in order to help you become a successful backpacker. You can also find valuable information about the various countries that you will be visiting as a globetrotter. It is one thing to plan ahead in order to save money, but another thing to really put your planning skills to the test in order to get to where you want to go. If you are serious about taking your globetrotting dreams seriously and making it into a reality, you will need to take the time to learn how to be a competent backpacker first.

How Do I Become A Globetrotter?

How Do I Become A Globetrotter?

The short answer to this question is: come and work for KLM! Preferably in the cockpit or cabin, which will ensure that you spend every working day winging your way around the world! However, we fully understand that this job isn’t equally suitable or desirable for everyone. There are those who love travel, but abhor flying, for instance. Or those who simply prefer reading about travel, while sitting at home on their comfy couch. That’s good news, because I cater for all categories in that I’m not only a purser but also the co-author of the book called “Hoe word ik wereldreiziger” (How do I become a globetrotter?). The book, which is currently only available in Dutch, was recently reprinted for the seventh time! I’ve selected four tips from the book, which are helpful for globetrotters of all kinds.

Follow in other people’s footsteps

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Every place on earth has already been discovered and explored, so why wouldn’t you follow in other people’s footsteps? “Everyone is a globetrotter,” says Floortje Dessing, who presents a travel programme on Dutch TV. Another contributor to the book, Marc Helsen, a Belgian journalist and presenter of the programme Peking Express, says he much prefers the wilderness to spend time on a busy beach. Many authors, professional sailors and cyclists, tour guides, jet-setters and other travel aficionados share their adventures in the book. But you’ll also find stories by less famous people, like myself, all of whom inspire readers to choose their own path!

The limits of our Lonely Planet

Another contributor to the book is Tony Wheeler, the Australian founder of the world-famous Lonely Planet books, which are sometimes referred to as “The Traveller’s Bible”. He explains that, in his opinion, travel hasn’t changed at all: “We travel because we love to do so. Otherwise, you’d stay at home.” He also discusses the effects of technological developments and the joy of seeing borders reopening to all. As soon as a border opens, Lonely Planet publishes a new guide book for that country, so that people like you and me can visit it. Tony’s ultimate tip is: “Take more time and fewer clothes and gadgets.”

Be prepared, but don’t go overboard

So you’ve done your reading and chosen a destination, but what now? All that is covered in the second part of “How do I become a globetrotter?” which discusses how you map out a route and what you need to take along and why. Do you need vaccinations, a passport and visa, or special insurance? This section contains tips for every trip, whether it be long or short or anything in between. If you’re heading off for a longer trip, it’s handy to have information about the effects of leaving behind your home, your job and your family. Do you feel you’ve done enough preparation? Great! Put all the documentation in a file, close that handy travel app on your phone, and put all those books in your backpack. Drop everything and lock the door behind you! Off you go into the great, wide world! You’ll discover that many things aren’t quite as you expected. But that’s all part of the fun, right? You’ll only know whether you were fully prepared, and whether you can call yourself a globetrotter, when you get back from your trip, which is the ultimate test.

Planes, trains and automobiles

As a KLM blogger, I must give a special mention to planes. Have you ever heard of an air cruise? You basically get together a group of friends and hire an aircraft all to yourself. You then spend several weeks flying around the world. Have you never done this? That’s hardly surprising, because it’s very expensive and therefore only an option for the happy (and exceedingly wealthy) few. When I was interviewing a tour operator about their fantastic trips, I was almost literally salivating. It’s probably best to save for a train ticket or car rental. Or maybe apply for a job at KLM? I give a full account of my wonderful job in the chapter I wrote, which is titled “When I fly to Japan, I’m Japanese”. Here’s hoping it helps to inspire the voyage of your dreams!

Italy launched its long-awaited 'digital nomad visa' — here's who qualifies and how to apply

  • It just got much simpler for remote workers to move to Italy .
  • Non-EU or Swiss citizens can now apply for a digital nomad visa that lasts for one year.
  • Here are the requirements.

Insider Today

Italy is welcoming globetrotting professionals with open arms.

The country's digital nomad visa went into effect last week after being discussed by Italian legislators for years, and it's aimed at remote workers who want to spend some time living in the popular European destination, according to Euronews .

The Italian government defines digital nomads as non-European Union or Swiss citizens who are highly skilled, Euronews said. They should be able to work remotely, either as someone self-employed or in collaboration with or as an employee of a company.

But it's not as simple as showing up with your luggage and laptop.

Visa applicants must earn three times the minimum level required for exemption from participation in healthcare costs. That comes out to just under €28,000 annually or about $30,400.

Further requirements include health insurance coverage for the duration of your stay, proof of accommodation, and candidates will have to show they've been a remote worker elsewhere for at least six months or a digital nomad for the same period of time.

And while the digital nomad visa is only good for one year, it can be renewed — and your family can be included.

You may, however, get rejected if you've been convicted of a crime in the last five years, Euronews said.

It's the latest effort from Italy to encourage growth. For a while now, aging Italian towns have offered their homes up for just one euro in an effort to curb underpopulation. The deal attracted foreigners who took advantage of the fixer-uppers.

Still, elsewhere in Europe, several countries are rolling back their "golden visas" that once allowed outsiders to obtain residency permits after investing over $500,000 in real estate.

Where Phil Rosenthal Eats In LA

When Phil Rosenthal talks about his job, he says he's the luckiest guy you’ll ever meet. For seven seasons, the show-runner turned television host has traveled the world—turning his eating habit into a job for Somebody Feed Phil . He’s rarely alone on his food-inspired adventures, with friends (old and new) and family frequently joining him on the road. The gig makes total sense for Phil, because not only is he a big restaurant guy, but a family man, too.

Because of the show, Phil travels...a lot. So he’s always happy to touch back down in LA, where he’s now lived for 35 years. And when he's home, he prioritizes visiting the spots that remind him why LA has, he says, the best food scene in America. When he’s not globetrotting, going on tour, working on his soon-to-open diner with Nancy Silverton, or promoting the book he wrote with his daughter Lily, Phil Rosenthal likes to visit these 12 spots to feel at home in Los Angeles.

Sonoratown Mid-City image

Sonoratown Mid-City

“During the pandemic, Sonoratown was our go-to order-in spot. It’s just completely satisfying and super delicious every time. I get the chivichanga tray. And those flour tortillas are the best ever. You could put my shoe in one of those tortillas, and I’d be happy. What more could you want?”

Du-par's image

Du-par's

Beverly Grove

“If I’m with my family and want to go somewhere that feels nostalgic, I go to Du-pars. It’s about one hundred years old—or at least it feels like it is. It’s also in the Original Farmers Market , which is my favorite thing in Los Angeles. It has a sense of history, it’s food-centric, and it’s old school. I went to Du-par’s for dinner the other night, and I got my favorite thing: a hot open-faced turkey sandwich with gravy, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. I also love a diner breakfast. Their pancakes are world famous, and I like mine with their boysenberry syrup.”

Great White Larchmont image

Great White Larchmont

“I know it’s a bit of a chain, but I think Great White makes one of the best breakfast burritos in town. I’m walking distance from the Larchmont location and I think they do a great job. Get there a little early on weekends, though. If you go before 10am, you’ll be OK.”

Antico Nuovo image

Antico Nuovo

“Chef Chad Colby is hardcore and his pastas are world-class. Antico Nuovo is an unpretentious place with just killer Italian food. I also feel like it’s still under the radar for most people. Dinner here feels classic and very comforting. I know Chef Colby a bit, so I usually say I’ll eat whatever he sends me. That’s my favorite way to eat. If I know the chef, trust the chef, or I’ve heard great things about the chef, I ask them to do whatever they want—I’m never disappointed.”

Republique image

Mid-Wilshire

“Pound for pound, Republique may be the best overall restaurant in Los Angeles. Breakfast? Phenomenal. Lunch? Phenomenal. Dinner? Phenomenal, and completely different with high-end California-French cooking. I think they do the best restaurant burger in Los Angeles, which is in a different league than smash burgers. I also love the potato pancake for brunch with poached eggs, smoked salmon, and trout caviar on top. When I have lunch meetings or breakfast meetings, Republique is where I want to go.”

N/Soto image

“So N/naka is fancy schmancy, Chef’s Table stuff, right? Well, N/soto is chef Niki Nakayama’s more casual concept with everything from sushi to karaage and grilled skewers—I could go once a week, easily. I trust chef Nikki, so I’ll have whatever she sends me. I’ve never had a bad bite at N/soto.”

Sushi Zo image

“I don’t think you’ll find a better, more pure sushi spot in Los Angeles than Sushi Zo. It is not cheap, and it has only become more expensive as the years go by. They start you off with a couple of small plates, and then it’s a parade of sushi’s greatest hits. And I guarantee you’ll have some of these nigiri and say, ‘Oh, that’s the best of this cut of fish I’ve ever had.’”

Anajak Thai image

Anajak Thai

Sherman Oaks

“You don’t need me to tell you this, but Anajak Thai is incredible. I’ve done both the omakase and their Taco Tuesday, but every visit feels like an omakase because I ask the kitchen to bring me what they want. That being said, a meal at Anajak always has to end with their delicious southern Thai fried chicken.”

Pizzeria Mozza image

Pizzeria Mozza

Hancock Park

“I’m a fan of Nancy Silverton, so whatever she does, I’m inclined to love. I’ve known her for many years now. She spent a year working on Pizzeria Mozza’s dough before she let anyone taste it. I was one of the people she let taste her pizza the first day it was ready. It was the best pizza I’d ever had up until that point. I had just come back from Italy. My daughter Lily was a little girl, and she said, ‘No offense to Italy, but this is a little better.’ That’s now a quote outside the restaurant. I think that fennel sausage pizza is pretty special. It has a unique flavor I love, but they’re all great.”

Jitlada image

East Hollywood

“Jitlada is old school and a true LA institution. Owner Jazz Singsanong is such a great character and the food has real fire and personality. It’s so good, even if some of the stuff is literally too hot for me to handle. Jitlada is so much fun with a bunch of people as the food starts making the rounds at the table, and the beer is flowing. Maybe it’s not the best place to take somebody who can’t do spicy food, but if you need them to tone it down, why go there?”

Providence interior

“Providence. Fancy schmancy. I think it’s the best seafood restaurant in California, if not the country. This is what fine dining is supposed to be, where every dish is a huge knockout. The service is beautiful, the room is beautiful, and the food is sublime. I take people here for very special occasions or if I want to blow them away with a high-end meal that never feels stuffy. Or at least it’s not stuffy like a four-star French dinner in New York. Everything here is just dialed in.”

Connie & Ted’s image

Connie & Ted's

West Hollywood

“Providence’s casual branch is impeccable seafood for the rest of us. Connie and Ted’s has the best oysters in the city, and I love how super cold they are. If you just want a simple piece of grilled fish, it’s always going to be delicious and fantastic. Oh, and I love the Rhode Island clam chowder—the clear one. That’s by far my favorite of their three chowders.”

10 Things to Know About Hillary Sabbagh

Globetrotting with Stonehill College’s Director of International Programs.

Though she has lived in the Boston area for almost 10 years, Hillary Sabbagh grew up in New Hampshire.

“I lived in a small farm town,” she said. “I remember always wanting to find a way to see the world beyond my own backyard.”

These days, travel is a major part of Sabbagh’s life and career. As Director of International Programs at Stonehill College , she is responsible for connecting students with classroom, internship, research and service-learning opportunities across the globe.

While Sabbagh continues working to find new ways to help Skyhawks fly away from the nest and experience everything this world has to offer, here are 10 things to know about her.

“I’m a firm believer that if every person spent two weeks in another country, the world would be a better place,” Sabbagh said.

1. She has always worked in international education. Sabbagh joined the Stonehill community in 2023. She previously worked at Northeastern University and Suffolk University. “I originally planned to become a high school Spanish teacher, but I fell in love with this work through a graduate assistantship I had with the International Programs office at Rivier University,” she said.

2. She wants you out of your comfort zone. Sabbagh hopes that all students who can take advantage of the opportunity to study abroad do so. “I’m a firm believer that if every person spent two weeks in another country, the world would be a better place,” she said. “Leaving home allows us to see people for who they are and not necessarily where they’re from. Traveling also enables students to get outside their comfort zone. They return home having grown. Witnessing that is one of my favorite parts of this job.”

3. She is on a mission. Since she started working in higher education, Sabbagh has made it her mission to break down barriers that some students might face when choosing to study abroad. “I invest a lot of time in helping connect students with scholarship opportunities,” she said. “I want them to know that having a travel experience can be possible, even if they don’t think it is.” Travel scholarships cited by Sabbagh include the Fund for Education Abroad, the U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program, and grants offered by Stonehill College.

4. She wants to expand Stonehill’s horizons. “International travel obviously took a pause during the pandemic,” Sabbagh said. “Now that study abroad is back in full swing, I’ve tried to help diversify our offerings with programs in Asia, Africa and South America.”

5. She does her homework. Sabbagh regularly goes abroad to visit the sites where Stonehill students live and learn so she can vet them on behalf of the College. “It’s an important part of my work,” she said. “We want to make sure that the places we send students will provide them a positive and enriching experience.”

In her free time, Sabbagh loves to travel. As of 2024, she has been to 36 countries and hopes to visit many more places in the future.

6. She has helpful travel tips. Sabbagh recognizes that some students might have questions about leaving the comfort of home to go abroad. “I always tell students that everything will still be here when they get back,” she said. “I also try to share with them what a unique experience it is being in another country as a college student. People who have concerns can ease into study abroad by doing a short-term summer program, a week-long travel seminar during spring break, or going abroad with friends.”

7. She can navigate the system. In addition to assisting Stonehill students as they plan to travel abroad, Sabbagh also provides immigration support to international students who are studying at Stonehill. “Once they’re on campus, I help them ensure they’re following visa regulations,” she said. “We currently have several dozen international students here. Many of them are student-athletes and they come from all over the world.”

8. She is a leader in her field. In December 2023, Sabbagh reached the end of her two-year term as co-chair of the Boston Area Study Abroad Association. This organization provides international educators in the area the chance to engage in professional development experiences with other practitioners in their field. “The community of people who work in international educational is tight knit,” Sabbagh said. “It’s a small world. It’s nice to be able to make connections and call upon people from likeminded institutions so you can share best practices and ideas.”

9. She caught the travel bug as a student. When she was in school, Sabbagh studied abroad three times. In high school, she went to the Dominican Republic. As a college student, she studied in Spain. While in graduate school, she lived in Mexico for a time. “I still remember how helpful my study abroad advisor was in college,” she said. “I’ve always wanted to be the same sort of resource for my students. I want to make sure they’re comfortable, happy and excited about going abroad.”

10. She is striving for 40 by 40. As most people might assume, Sabbagh enjoys traveling in her free time. Thus far, she has been to 36 countries. “I’m hoping to reach 40 countries by age 40,” she said. Some of the places she has particularly enjoyed visiting include Morocco, Greece and Colombia.

The best (and worst) moments of Coachella Day 2, from No Doubt's reunion to T-Pain's line

INDIO, Calif. − The Saturday of a Coachella weekend is a lot like junior year of college. On the one hand, you've gotten into the swing of things, know your way around the grounds and have even built up a bit of stamina. On the other, you still feel fresh (at least assuming your friend didn’t talk you into taking too many Malibu shots back at your campsite after Lana Del Rey's set) and hungry, not to mention thirsty, for more.

Most importantly, you haven’t yet started to feel the impending sadness about the weekend’s end that inevitably arrives on Sunday.

A look at the highs and lows from Weekend 1, Day 2.

Spotted! Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce dance to Bleachers, Ice Spice at Coachella

The dream of the '90s was alive with reunions by No Doubt, Blur and Sublime

The bulk of the prime time at the main stage was taken up by not one, not two but three anticipated '90s reunions. Sublime started things out and singer Jakob Newell proved himself a more than capable replacement for his late father (if you closed your eyes, you might have even thought you were listening to KROCK circa 1997).

Next up was Blur led by Coachella fixture Damon Albarn, who continues to show little sign of slowing down a year after he performed with his other band “Gorillaz” on this same stage. But the best was saved for last as No Doubt turned back the clock with an exuberant performance that showcased both the rebellious rocker girl side of Gwen Stefani that she has mostly seemed to keep under wraps for the past few years and the band's impressive catalog of hits.

Coachella 2024: No Doubt reunites, brings fans back to the 90s with nostalgic, energetic set

Jack Antonoff and Bleachers brought it (and drew Taylor Swift)

Jack Antonoff presided over one of the most amped-up sets ever seen at the festival. But his energy was somehow matched by Bleachers' saxophone players who joined him onstage for much of the show and seemed to almost be battling for supremacy as they closed out the show with “Don’t Take the Money.” No wonder Taylor Swift could be seen bopping along in the wings. Swift has good taste in collaborators/friends.

Vampire Weekend went country for surprise set

Vampire Weekend’s set brought a couple of surprises to Coachella this weekend. The first was that they showed up at all, as the set was a surprise add that was announced Tuesday. But the second came when singer Ezra Koenig quipped that he initially wasn’t sure if the band was being asked to play Stagecoach or Coachella when festival organizers reached out to him, a clever way of introducing a decidedly-un- Vampire Weekend sounding medley of country and bluesy songs that closed out the show. While it may not have been what anyone would’ve expected, it was a pretty darn cool way to end the show. Maybe Goldenvoice should give them a call about Stagecoach after all.

That painfully long line to see T-Pain left fans shut out

The excitement that surrounded the recent addition of a T-Pain set at the Heineken House was quickly extinguished when fans wandered toward the stage only to see a massive line.

Around a half-hour before the set was to begin, word began to circulate that the house had reached capacity and no one else would be let in. Goldenvoice, it appears, had grossly underestimated the interest that remained to hear early 2000s hits like “Up Down” and “Bartender.” Maybe they can bring back T-Pain next weekend (only a Weekend 1 set was initially announced) and put him on a bigger stage where his fans can enjoy “Booty Wurk” without any concerns about capacity issues.

Sadly, Taylor Swift did not guest with Bleachers or Ice Spice

OK, so it was pretty cool that the world’s most famous couple did in fact add the festival to their globetrotting itinerary (as eagle-eyed fans in the crowd at Bleachers found out for themselves). And, yes, even pop stars are entitled to enjoy a day at the festival without having to face the pressure that comes with performing (although we doubt Taylor feels much at this point).

But if we’re being honest, we have to cop to being a little disappointed that Swift didn’t hop on stage to join either Antonoff or Ice Spice and create what would instantly become the most memorable Coachella moment since Beychella. But while it appears the wait for Taylorchella will have to continue, we won’t give up quite that easy: Here’s hoping Swift liked her time in the desert so much she’ll come back next weekend in a singing mood.

In Jed Mackay and Ryan Stegman's 'X-Men,' Cyclops Reignites Mutant Revolution

Check out the main cover and learn more about jed mackay and ryan stegman's 'x-men,' one of the three core series of the x-men's upcoming from the ashes era kicking off in july..

The fall of Krakoa will go down as one of the darkest chapters in mutant history, but Cyclops refuses to allow the X-Men to be victims.

The first X-Man, mutantkind’s ultimate leader, and arguably the most brilliant strategic mind in the entire Marvel Universe, Scott Summers steps up to guide his species towards a better future in Jed MacKay  and  Ryan Stegman ’s X-MEN . Announced last month, X-MEN will be the first of three flagship X-titles set in the upcoming From the Ashes era.

No longer living under the protection of Krakoa, it’s a dangerous time for mutants everywhere, and dangerous times call for radical action! Cyclops gathers a group of his most trusted and reliable mutant soldiers along with the brightest of the next generation to tackle the most prevalent threats to mutantkind, including an existential new enemy that rises out of the remains of Orchis . Prepare for a reckoning as this team handles explosive mutant-specific issues without restraint. Humanity can hate them all they want, as long as they fear them!

FROM THE ASHES! Krakoa is gone, Orchis has fallen... but the X-Men remain, always. Cyclops leads, because that is what he does. Beast builds, because that is what he does. And from their new home in Alaska, the X-Men raise a flag of defiance. Mutant business is their business. Join Cyclops, Beast, Magneto , Psylocke , Magik , Kid Omega , Temper, and Juggernaut as new forces in the world move into position, battling for the destiny and philosophy of the mutant species.

"Taking on the X-Men is always a daunting prospect, but I'm extremely psyched to take this team of mutants back into the world with Ryan!" MacKay said.

"When I first got into comics, drawing X-Men was THE job you wanted as an artist," Stegman added. "To have the opportunity now is mind-blowing."

With three flagship titles and a host of additional satellite series, the upcoming From the Ashes era will present fans with a wide range of different approaches to the X-Men’s mission statement. Gail Simone  and  David Marquez ’s UNCANNY X-MEN delivers globetrotting super hero adventures as the X-Men show the world all the good mutantkind can accomplish. Eve L. Ewing  and  Carmen Carnero ’s EXCEPTIONAL X-MEN focuses on the trials and training young mutants need to undergo to survive in a world against them. Meanwhile, MacKay and Stegman’s X-MEN sees mutantkind flex their strength and keep hope alive by any means necessary!
