Comedy Icon John Mulaney Announces 2023 Australian Tour

Two-time Emmy Award-winning comedian John Mulaney is set to bring his critically acclaimed stand-up to Australia next year, announcing dates for his 2023 ‘From Scratch’ tour.

Kicking off at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on February 8th, Mulaney’s four-date tour will see him perform at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena and Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena before wrapping things up with a show at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on February 12th.

Mulaney first came to prominence as a writer on  Saturday Night Live , working alongside fellow comedic luminaries such as Bill Hader, where he helped to establish himself as one of the preeminent comedy talents of the era.

Following a number of Emmy nominations over the years, Mulaney took home the Outstanding Music and Lyrics award for co-writing the song ‘Justin Timberlake Monologue’ with Seth Meyers and Timberlake for  Saturday Night Live , and more recent, he took out the Outstanding Writing in a Variety Special category for his Kid Gorgeous at Radio City   special.

In addition to his work as a stand-up comedian and writer, Mulaney has also served as a voice actor for Big Mouth and The Simpsons , has appeared in the likes of Documentary Now! and has become a noted host of Saturday Night Live , having recently joined the esteemed Five Timers Club.

After launching his ‘From Scratch’ tour in the US, Mulaney has been on the receiving end of widespread acclaim across the board, with the tour selling out noted venues such as New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden, and on track to continue this trend in the coming months.

Multi-award-winning comedian and entertainment industry polymath John Mulaney is bringing his signature wit and sharp storytelling to Australia.

Kicking off in Adelaide on February 8th, John Mulaney is touring his highly-anticipated ‘From Scratch’ tour to arenas across the country.

Mulaney is no stranger to global acclaim. His Kid Gorgeous US tour was later released as a Netflix stand-up special and won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Variety Special. In 2015 The AV Club called his The Comeback Kid Netflix original the “best hour of his career”. Meanwhile Ken Tucker of Entertainment Weekly has hailed him as “one of the best stand-up comics alive”.

Mulaney is also a Saturday Night Live regular since he began writing for it in 2008. He’s even hosted the show five times, and recently revealed that the Secret Service had  opened up an investigation on him following jokes he made during his SNL monologue in February 2020.

As a comedy writer, he contributes to  Late Night With Seth Meyers, and he’s been tapped for the Documentary Now! mockumentary television series, and Netflix’s Big Mouth . In December 2019 he debuted his own Emmy nominated musical variety special, John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch on Netflix.

Mulaney has also starred on Broadway in Oh, Hello On Broadway , which he wrote alongside Nick Kroll and turned into a podcast series.

The ‘From Scratch’ tour has already sold out dates across North America, from Madison Square Garden to the Hollywood Bowl. Award winning comedian   John Mulaney   announced today he will be going back on tour solo   with a brand new show.   The stand-up comedy tour   kicks off kicks off on November 2 at the Ulster Performing Arts Center in Kingston, NY making stops across the U.S. in Columbus, OH; New Orleans, LA; Tampa, FL and more before wrapping up in Phoenix, AZ at Arizona Financial Theatre on New Years Eve.  

TICKETS: Tickets will be available starting with an artist presale beginning on Wednesday, September 27. Additional presales will run throughout the week ahead of the general onsale beginning on Friday, September 29 at 10AM local time at ticketmaster.com.      

MORE ABOUT THE SHOW: This event will be a phone-free experience. Use of phones, smart watches and accessories, will not be permitted in the performance space. Upon arrival at the venue, all phones, smart watches and accessories will be secured in individual Yondr pouches that will be opened at the end of the event. Guests maintain possession of their devices at all times, and can access them throughout the event only in designated Phone Use Areas within the venue. All devices will be re-secured in Yondr pouches before returning to the performance space.

Fans can begin purchasing tickets for Mulaney’s new shows on Wednesday, Sept. 27 through an artist presale, with additional presales running throughout the week ahead of the general onsale — which will begin on Friday, Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. local time on the official Ticketmaster website.

Baby J , Mulaney’s latest standup special ,  debuted in April and earned him a pair of Emmy nominations: outstanding variety special (pre-recorded) and outstanding writing for a variety special.   He has won two Emmys for his work on Saturday Night Live and John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City . In 2018, Kid Gorgeous at Radio City peaked at No. 2 on Comedy Albums , becoming Mulaney’s third of four consecutive top five entries on the chart. The set also became his first to enter Top Album Sales (No. 96).

In December 2019, the critically acclaimed and Emmy nominated musical variety special  John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch debuted on Netflix.

Well, that escalated quickly.

What started as a five-show, one-weekend tour with Pete Davidson and Jon Stewart in early September, has since become a full-fledged tour for John Mulaney .

The five-time “Saturday Night Live” host just announced an additional 18 shows to his 2023 calendar he’s calling ‘John Mulaney: In Concert.’

In total, Mulaney now has 31 gigs all over North America this year including a trio with Jon Stewart and 11 with Pete Davidson .

And for those keeping score at home, he now has four shows in New York State.

First up, he’s slated to co-headline with Jon Stewart at Westbury’s NYCB Theatre on Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14 .

After that, he’ll hit Kingston’s Ulster Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Nov. 2 and Troy’s Troy Music Hall on Sunday, Nov. 4.

John Mulaney Extends “From Scratch” Tour Into 2023

Featuring more than 30 additional dates

John Mulaney has further extended his “From Scratch” standup comedy tour into Winter 2022 and 2023.

Featuring more than 30 additional dates, the expansive trek now includes US dates in San Antonio, Texas; Memphis, Tennessee; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Rochester, New York; and more. In addition, Mulaney will make stops in Canadian cities like Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Calgary as part of the North American leg running through early December. After that, Mulaney will perform a handful of Australian shows in February 2023. See the full itinerary below.

Happy Concert Week! Rolling Stone can exclusively unveil that Peso Pluma , Feid , and Fuerza Regida are among the cohort of Latino artists joining Live Nation’s annual initiative of lowering ticket prices to $25 and shaving off pesky fees for an entire week.

John Mulaney stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live ahead of his "comically unconventional" stint of live Netflix specials, John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s In LA , which will air on the streamer for 11 days. And while he was telling Kimmel about some of the out-there guests he'll be featuring, he recalled an anecdote about a recent outing with his son that didn't exactly go as planned.

True to the name, the specials are part of the annual Netflix is a Joke festival, which veritably hundreds on comedians will be in town for. But in addition to comedic royalty such as Jerry Seinfeld, David Letterman, Jon Stewart, Sarah Silverman, and so on; Mulaney is also having some lesser known names on the show.

He'll also be speaking with a seismologist, a hypnotherapist, and a helicopter journalist, among others, as well as Dr. Emily Lindsey, assistant curator and excavation site director at the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum in Los Angeles, which has been open to the public since 1977 .

"I took my son to the La Brea Tar Pits recently," the 41-year-old interjected, as Kimmel read off some of the names. "And he doesn't want to see a bunch of skeletons."

"No one does," quipped Kimmel in return.

"What I thought it was going to be is so embarrassing, in retrospect," Mulaney continued. "I thought it was gonna be like big animals covered in tar. And it was gonna be like, you know, an animated movie to him and it was just these dirty bones. And the smell of tar everywhere."

Though, to be fair, the exhibit would be a bit grim if it were actually a bunch of dying animals covered in tar. Mulaney shares two-year-old son Malcolm with his girlfriend, actress Olivia Munn. Toddlers are fickle creatures, and apparently "a bunch of dirty bones" were not enough to entertain the child or his father.

In either case, John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s In LA premieres on Friday, May 3 at 7 p.m. PT, and will run through May 12. You can watch the trailer below.

Iconiq raises $5.15B toward seventh flagship fund

Iconiq Capital has raised $5.15 billion across two funds associated with the seventh growth fund family, according to SEC filings. The firm, which launched in 2011 as a private office managing capital of some of the most prominent and wealthiest people in tech, including Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey, originally targeted $5.75 billion, according to meeting information from New Mexico State Investment Council, The Wall Street Journal reported in March 2022. The fund size is a substantial increase from Iconiq’s Fund VI target of $3.75 billion.

Pete Davidson to perform with John Mulaney and Jon Stewart in first tour since entering rehab

Pete Davidson will return to the stage for his first tour since  entering rehab  earlier this summer. 

The comedian reportedly had gigs on Aug. 1, performing a pair of sold-out shows in Dania, Fla., reported  TMZ . Now news comes that Davidson will do a short run of shows with John Mulaney and Jon Stewart , both of whom recently appeared in Davidson's Peacock show,  Bupkis . 

The comedians will start their run of four shows in Springfield, Mass., on Sept. 8 before doing two shows a night in Bethlehem, Penn., on Sept. 9 and in Atlantic City on Sept. 10.

Mulaney shared the details for the mini-tour — dubbed Jon, John & Pete — on his Instagram, revealing that the presale begins today and that tickets will go on sale to the general public on Aug. 4.

A representative for Davidson did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.

The series of gigs arrives just more than a month after Davidson entered a rehab facility seeking assistance with post-traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder, a diagnosis  he revealed on Marc Maron's  WTF  podcast  in 2017.

A source close to the  SNL  alum told  PEOPLE  at the time, "Pete will often check himself into rehab to work on these issues. His friends and family have been supportive during this time."

No word yet on if the Jon, John & Pete tour will hit the road for more dates.
