1. Kanyakumari Bhagavathi Amman Temple

Also known as Devi Kanya Kumari Temple, Kanyakumari Bhagavathi Amman Temple is dedicated to the adolescent girl avatar of Goddess Parvati and the first place to visit on our one day trip in a private car.

Legends say that Devi Kanya was supposed to be married to Lord Shiva, however, their marriage did not take place. It was then that the Devi decided to remain a virgin because of which she is considered as the Goddess of virginity and purity. It is said that the rice and other cereals that were meant to be cooked on the day of the wedding were remained untouched, and as a result turned into stones, which can be visible even today.

It is said that when Goddess Parvati (also known as Sati / Durga) died, Lord Shiva carried her body across the universe in grief and sorrow. During this, Lord Vishnu had cut the body of Sati into 52 different parts which fell off at various places. It is in this temple that the right shoulder and the back of Sati’s corpse fell.

The construction of the temple was led by the Pandya dynasty and was renovated by the Chola dynasty and further by the Vijayanagara and Nayaka rulers. As such, one can see that the architecture of the temple draws inspiration from various medieval ages.

There are two doors to the temple, the western door which is accessible on all days by the tourists, and the eastern door which is only accessible during certain days such as Navratri, new moon days of certain months etc.

2. Vivekananda Rock Memorial

It also has an assembly hall known as the Sabha Mandapam which consists of two rooms, a corridor and an open courtyard which surrounds the assembly hall.

3. Thiruvalluvar Statue

If you hail from Tamil Nadu or are an enthusiast of poetry and literature, you must have heard of the legendary Poet & Philosopher, Valluvar. The Thiruvalluvar Statue is a 40.6 m tall statue of him that was inaugurated in the year 2000.

The statue is representative of the three chronological books namely, Virtue, Wealth and Love in the same order. While the platform of 12 m on which the statue rests is representative of the 38 chapters of the first book, the statue in itself represents the second and the third book.

This is constructed in such a manner to denote that one can get wealth and love only on the strong foundation of virtue. One can also easily notice that the three fingers of Valluvar’s right hand are pointed towards the sky which is also representative of Virtue, Wealth & Love.

The Valluvar’s statue is also located on an island which can be visited via a ferry while visiting the Vivekananda Rock Memorial.

• Must See: Notice the slight bend in the statue which is similar to the dancing pose of the Hindu deity, Nataraj.

4. Government Museum, Kanyakumari

Even though one can think that a visit to the Government Museum will be boring, this does not stand true for the one in Kanyakumari. 5. Gandhi Memorial, Kanyakumari

Gandhi Memorial also known as Gandhi Mandap is a memorial constructed on the seashore of Kanyakumari in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi.

This place is of historical importance as the site of the mandap is where Gandhi’s ashes (in one of the 12 urns) were last kept for public viewing before being immersed in the waters of Kanyakumari.

A tour to Kanyakumari is incomplete without tourists reflecting upon the sacrifices of the great man at this memorial.

Although the construction of the temple might appear to be very simple, it is indeed a piece of architecture. There is an opening in the Mandap that has been constructed in a manner that on the 2nd of October (Birthdate of Gandhi), every year, sun rays fall directly at the spot where his ashes were kept.

The height of the central dome is 79 feet, which was constructed on purpose to signify the age of the father of our nation at the time of his demise.

• Must See: The memorial is set at the backdrop of the ocean, offering a great view when seen from the top. Simply stand here for a while and absorb the peace this place has to offer. 
• Timings: Open on all days from 7 AM to 7 PM.

6. Vattakottai Fort

Constructed in the 18th century by the Venad kings of Travancore, Vattakottai Fort is one of the few sea forts of the country. The fort once acted as an army base to protect the kingdom of Travancore. Various canon attacks have been initiated from this fort.

With a beach on one side and the western ghats on the other, this fort made of granite is a popular tourist picnic spot. The beach on which the fort stands has black sand and hence is very different from the other beaches of Kanyakumari.

The fort also strikes a close resemblance to the Bekal Fort of Kerala, since a part of both the forts extend to the sea.

• Must See: Relish the view of the windmills and nuclear plants from the fort.

7. Padmanabhapuram Palace

Also known as the Kalkulam Palace, Padmanabhapuram Palace once used to be the capital city of Travancore. The primary complex of the palace is located inside a granite fort which stretches over 4 km.

8. Thanumalayan Temple

The Thanumalayan temple also known as Sthanumalayan Temple is located 15 km away from Kanyakumari in the Suchindram district and is an important Hindu temple for both the sects of Hinduism, Shaivite and Vaishnavite.

The word ‘Sthanumalayan’ denotes the three primary Hindu Gods, “Stanu” meaning Siva; “Mal” meaning Vishnu; and the “Ayan” meaning Brahma. The uniqueness of the temple lies in the fact that all the three gods are represented via one Linga (idol).

The idol is silver coated, however, it is golden in colour. One can also find a big Hanuman statue of 22 feet inside the temple complex which is made using one solid granite stone. The temple also boasts of one of the largest Nandi statues of approximately 13 feet, made of mortar and lime.

There are also four musical pillars and roughly a thousand more pillars with carvings in an area known as the dancing hall. The quality of stone craft adds to the architectural value of the temple.

There are two major festivals celebrated here which gather a lot of tourists. One is the 10-day temple car (chariot) festival celebrated during winters and the other is known as Teppam which is celebrated during the summers.

• Things To Do: Tap the musical pillars and each one will emit a different musical note. 
• Timings: Open on all days. The darshan timings are from 4.30am to 11.30 am and from 5 PM to 8.30 PM.

9. Sunset View Point, Kanyakumari

The interesting thing to note about Kanyakumari is that one can view both the sunrise and the sunset from the same viewpoint, both of which happens to be at the backdrop of the sea. It is one of the most experiential things one can do in Kanyakumari.

Day 1: Trivandrum

Arrival at Trivandrum Airport/Railway/Bus Station, our friendly representative will receive and take you to Trivandrum. Trivandrum has got a lot of tourist attractions that are worth visiting and will make the whole experience truly a memorable one. The city of Trivandrum is different from other large Indian cities and is a welcome break from the bustling commercial city life. The important sightseeing places in Trivandrum are Padmanabhaswami Temple, Kuthiramalika Palace Museum, Napier Museum, Planetarium, etc. Back to the hotel and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2: Trivandrum - Kanyakumari (100 Kms 3 Hours)

The morning after breakfast checkout and drive to Kanyakumari. Kanyakumari is the southernmost tip of the Indian Peninsula and the meeting point of three seas, Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. En route your journey and visit the Padmanabhapuram Palace, the largest wooden palace in the World and the magnificent Sucheendram Temple, where the Trinities are worshiped. On arrival at Kanyakumari check into the hotel and later go for local sightseeing visiting the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the Kanyakumari Devi Temple. Back to the hotel overnight stay at Kanyakumari hotel.

Day 3: Kanyakumari - Trivandrum

After breakfast check out and proceed to Trivandrum Airport/Railway/Bus station for your return journey.

• Rooms in Munnar/Thekkady/Coorg/Ooty/Kodaikanal will be non – A/C as hill station.
• Standard check-in time at hotel is 1200 noon/0200 PM & check-out time is 1100 AM.
• Early check in or late checkout at hotel is subject to availability and the hotel may charge extra for the same.
• Vehicle will be given point to point as per itinerary & not on disposal basis.
• Vehicle is available for use between 0800 AM to 0800 PM which covers the sightseeing and journey time.
• During the journey if you paid any amount without our concern, we will not be responsible.
• Houseboat check-in is at 1200 noon and checkout at 0900 AM. In A/C deluxe or super deluxe house, A/C will be operating from 0900 PM to 0600 AM.
• Houseboat will cruise from 12 noon till sun-set around 0530 PM and morning cruise will be from 0800 AM to 0900 AM, as per govt. rule.
• We are not responsible for any expenses incurred due to bad weather, road closure, landslides, accidents or local political conditions, etc.
• If accommodation is not available in the specific hotel for the particular package due to reason beyond our control, we shall make our best efforts to shift the client to hotel having more or less same standard. No complaint or claim shall be made by the client in this respect.
• If any airline is delayed or cancelled, we are not responsible for any compensation for hotels, meals, sightseeing or any other claim.
• Rates are subject to change if any increase in the fuel surcharge or any kind of taxes levied by the respective government or statutory bodies.

For all the services contracted, certain advance payment should be made to hold the booking, on confirmed basis & the balance amount can be paid either before your departure from your country or upon arrival in INDIA but definitely before the commencement of the services. Management personnels hold the right to decide upon the amount to be paid as advance payment, based on the nature of the service & the time left for the commencement of the service. Payment can be made by Credit Card through our secured online payment gateway system, by Bank Transfer, Cash payment to our offices in your city or by Demand Draft / Cheque. All payments should be free and clear of any withholding tax and deduction. Bank charges, if any, for remittance (by remitting bank or by intermediary bank) would be strictly borne by payer.

Cancellation Policy:

In the event of cancellation of tour / travel services due to any avoidable / unavoidable reason/s we must be notified of the same in writing. Cancellation charges will be effective from the date we receive advice in writing, and cancellation charges would be as follows:

• 60 days & prior to arrival - 10% of the tour/service cost.
• 59 days to 30 days prior to arrival - 25% of the tour/service cost.
• 29 days to 15 days prior to arrival - 50% of the tour/service cost.
• 14 days to 08 days prior to arrival - 75% of the tour/service cost.
• 07 days & less, prior to arrival or no show - NO REFUND.

Kindly Note:

Written cancellation will accept on all working days, except Sunday, Any cancellation sent on Sunday's will be considered on next working day (Monday). For the X-mas and New Year period from 20 Dec to 05 Jan the payment is non-refundable.
