The Krishna temple is one of the oldest temples built around the 13th century. Savour the architectural experience along with offering your prayers.

Mahabaleshwar temple was built in the ancient Hemadpanti style to make a comfortable home to Lord Shiva’s bed, Dhamru and Trishul.

Panchganga temple is believed to be the origin point of the 5 holy rivers – Krishna, Venna, Koyana, Savitri and Gayatri. If you’re in luck, you’d get to see these mystical rivers converging here.

If a place could look like a de-stress pill, it’d be the Lingmala falls. Cascading from above 500 ft., the waterfalls provide an overlooking view of the Dhobi and Chinamans waterfall.

It’s an ideal picnic spot as it is located just beside the forest Bungalow of Lingmala. While you’re lounging over here, don’t miss out on the rainbow effect the falls create. 6. Trek to the Elephant’s Head Point

Elephant’s Head Point is one of its kind natural vantage points. The tall standing boulders covered in mossy greens is definitely a highlight, but there’s more to it.

Shaped unusually in the form of a head of an elephant, the point is often compared to the fictional structures in the movie Bahubali. And so comes along the royal feeling from the viewing point.

It’s enveloped in the foliage of greens that leads to the aerial view of the hill station. The overhanging cliffs also act as an echo point, so be ready to scream your heart out and have it echoed back to you.

Distance from Mahabaleshwar – 10 km

Timing – 09:00 am – 06:00 pm

7. Taste explosion at Mapro Garden

Short for Mahabaleshwar Products, this is a place that exclusively brings the freshly plucked products to the markets.

Covered in vivid colours, the garden is a gem of all kinds in Mahabaleshwar. From exotic to native flora, ornamental water fountains, lily ponds, it’s a place that’d make you want to stay longer for its subtle beauty.

With the increasing number of tourists, the garden also created a welcoming space for them. Offering a healthy twist to fast food, to a narrative and dramatised show arranged every now and then, there’s everything that’d keep your eyes glued to the gardens.

There’s also a surprise element for those with a sweet tooth. Mapro is home to a really fascinating chocolate factory, from where you can witness the crafting of some heavenly chocolate and take some back home as well.

Distance from Mahabaleshwar – 13 km

8. Go filmy at the Table Land

Located at close proximity from Mahabaleshwar, is this strip of land from the Deccan Plateau.

Tableland is a very common shooting spot for many mainstream Bollywood movies, and there’s a good chance of you having seen this scenic beauty through screens already.

While you’re around Mahabaleshwar, jump on to your chance to pull off your best filmy tricks here.

Crowned as Asia’s Second Highest Mountain Plateau, Table Land is a place you can go around exploring the old-school way. The flattened hills are a perfect venue for horse riding, so you’re in for some really fun activities out there.

The motorable road uphill is surrounded by hills and flat laterite rocks that’d pave way for an aerial view of Panchgani. From here you’d also get some kick-ass photos and videos that’d go on the gram.

Distance from Mahabaleshwar – 20 km

Timing – 06:00 am – 06:00 pm

Entry Fee – No Entry Fee ( Rs. 800 –  2500 for horse riding)

9. War Tales of Pratapgad

If there’s a place in Mahabaleshwar that cocoons the entire valley’s glory, it’d be the Pratapgarh fort.

Whether or not you’re a history buff, the fort is sure to capture your fancy with its grandeur. Located at an elevation of 3454 ft., it’s an easy trek up to the fort surrounded by sheer cliffs.

To reach the peak point, you’ll have to climb 450 steps and carry lots and lots of water.

The best time to explore the fort would be from September to March. During these months, you’d be welcomed by the freshwater lake of the fort, Rahat lake. Around here you could also pitch your tent and camp for a day or so.

Racing to the top, there’d be stone structures built strategically around a gigantic watchtower and the great Shivaji Maharaj’s statue proudly holding the reins of his horse.

The fort is said to have played a very pivotal role in the Battle of Pratapgad. There onwards it has remained an important fragment of the Maharashtrian culture.

Distance from Mahabaleshwar – 21 km

Timing – 10:00 am – 06:00 pm

10. A historical walk through Rajapuri Caves

The Pandavas are believed to have stayed here during their exile, making it an important pilgrimage spot.

A group of four caves surrounded by sacred water (Kund). There’s always a few pilgrims who’d be washing off their sins in the Kund and the sight in itself makes for a great story.

Added along with these are the stone inscriptions and the Karthikeya temple. Believed to be built purely out of the sand taken from the caves, this temple is a marvellous architectural as well as religious structure.

Distance from Mahabaleshwar – 25 km

  • The weather can get a little unpredictable at times, so carry along proper clothing and an umbrella/raincoat with you.
  • If you’re planning on trekking around Mahabaleshwar, carry shoes with a comfortable grip. Even though the climb is easy, it’d always come in handy.
  • Monsoon season is peak season and hotels are usually expensive during this point. In case you plan on travelling to Mahabaleshwar during the monsoon period, advance booking would reduce the hassle and inconvenience.
  • Exploring at night is not suggested as the hill station is less populated. It’s quite a safe area, but unless you go in groups, travelling at night wouldn’t be an ideal option.

Mahabaleshwar is a famous hill station in the Satara district of Maharashtra. Situated in the Western Ghats, this place is one of the most beautiful hill stations in the world. It is one of few evergreen forests of India, which remains green throughout the whole year. In 1828, it was established as sanatorium and health resort. The word Mahableshwar has been derived from Sanskrit word meaning ‘God of Great Power’ (Lord Shiva). was originally named Malcolmpeth in the honour of Sir John Malcolm, the Governor of the Bombay Presidency.Mahabaleshwar served as the summer capital of Bombay province during the British Raj.Mahabaleshwar is not only famous for Sightseeing points but also famous for strawberries and honey. Strawberry with cream is the most popular drink.

Time of Visit : 26 th December 2021.Winter season is best time to Visit Mahabhaleshwar

Place of Stay : Ashoka Villa Resort .Which is 1.5-2 kms inside from Mapro Garden Panchgani.Resort is nice but road condition is worse.

Note: Book Hotel in Mahabhaleshwar main market which will be near for sightseeing points.(MTDC Resort, Hotel Treebo,Shreyas Hotel )

Mode of Travel : Two Wheeler

After having Tea and Breakfast we started our journey.Kates point is the first point of our one day trip. We reached here by 8 am.

Kates Point & Elephant Head Point

At a distance of 7 km from Mahabaleshwar Bus Stand, Kate’s Point and Elephant’s Head Point are the most picturesque viewpoints of Mahabaleshwar in the Satara district of Maharashtra. It is among the best

Babas cafe restaurant is at the entrance of Kate’s point. They serve varieties of snacks and drinks..Strawberry with dryfruit and cream was very good. Many Bollywood stars had visited this cafe earlier.

We also met with one guy whose name was Shahrukh who owns shop here. He explained very nicely about Kates Point.

Kate’s Point area has 3 points in total; they are Kate’s Point, Echo Point, and Needle Hole Point or Elephant’s Head Point. Kate’s Point is named after the then British governor Sir John Malcolm’s daughter. The original name of the point is Nake Khind and is situated at an altitude of 1290 m. Dhom dam, as well as peaks of Kamalgadh and Pandavgadh can be seen from Kate’s Point. It is one of the must include places in

Elephant’s Head Point or Needle Hole Point is another popular vantage point in Mahabaleshwar, situated next to Kate’s Point. The overhanging cliffs of this point are similar to the head of an elephant and its trunk. Thus the point got its name as the Elephant’s Head Point. One can see a natural rock formation with a hole in between, thus giving the name Needle Hole. Kate’s Point and Needle Hole Point are often confused with Elephant Head Point which is near Lodwick Point. From this point, tourists can also get a view of the Sahyadri mountain range.

We spent here one hour approximately at this point. Next we proceeded to Old Mahabhaleshwar. We reached Mahabhaleshwar Temple by 09:25 hrs

( 2) Old Mahabhaleshwar Temple

At a distance of 6 km from Mahabaleshwar Bus Stand, Mahabaleshwar Temple is an ancient Hindu temple situated in the Old Mahabaleshwar in Satara district of Maharashtra. Temple parking area is very big and for two-wheeler parking charges are 10 rs and for four wheelers charges are 40 rs. In this premises we have 3 temples and Ashram. Outside this premises within 500m distance we have very old Krishnai temple.

Mahabhaleshwar Temple :

Mahabaleshwar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the important pilgrimage sites for Hindus. The temple was built by Chandarao More in 16th century and is a model of the Hemadant architectural style of South India. The hills have been named after Lord Mahabali, whose name stands a symbol of strength. The temple is enclosed by a 5 feet wall and is divided into two areas, inner room and outer room. The sanctum sanctorum has Shiva linga made of black stone, which is 500 years old swayambhu lingam. This self-originated lingam is in the shape of Rudraksha and is called Mahalingam.

Pechanga Temple : At a distance of 6 km from Mahabaleshwar Bus Stand, Panch Ganga Temple is a holy site situated near Mahabaleshwar Temple at Old Mahabaleshwar in Satara district. The Panch Ganga Temple is constructed at the confluence of five rivers, Krishna, Venna, Savitri, Koyna and Gayatri. All the rivers come out from the mouth of a statue of a cow in this temple, thus the place being called Panchganga Mandir.

Atibaleshwar Temple: This is a small Shiva temple which is often overlooked by most tourists who visit the temple complex at Old Mahabaleshwar. As one walks up to the Panchganga Temple,Atibaleshwar temple would be on the left hand side, about 200 metres before reaching the Panchgaga mandir. There was a narrow passageway between the wayside shops to reach temple. there was a large Nandi bull at the entrance to this temple. The main Mahabaleshwar temple is on the right hand side. Both these temples were supposed to have been originally built 2500 years ago, but the Atibaleshwar temple still has the original structure.

Krishnai Temple At a distance of 300 m from Mahabaleshwar Temple and 6 km from Mahabaleshwar Bus Stand, Krishnabai Temple is an old temple situated few meters away from Panch Ganga Temple in Old Mahabaleshwar. Krishnai Temple is supposed to be source of the Krishna River. The temple was built in 1888 by a ruler of Ratnagiri on a hilltop overlooking the Krishna valley. The temple has a Shiva lingam and a beautiful statue of Goddess Krishna. A small stream of the river flowing from a cow-face (gomukh) falls in a Kund or water tank which is the source of River Krishna. One can also visit Strawberry farms which is located close to the temple and can purchase fresh Strawberry.

After spending one to one and half hour we moved to our next destination Elphinstone Point.

Elphinstone Point

At a distance of 10 km from Mahabaleshwar Bus Stand and 5 km from Old Mahabaleshwar, Elphinstone Point is one of the famous viewpoints situated atop a hill near Arthur Seat Point in Mahabaleshwar.one has to walk for 5 mins from parking area to see the viewpoint. There are small stalls which provide snacks like Maggie, Bhel and Corn. Sugarcane juice and cooldrinks are also available.

It was discovered in 1830 by Dr. Murray and has an old mansion in its vicinity. The viewpoint got its name from Mount Stuart Elphinstone, the then Governor of Bombay Presidency. The mansion now lies in ruins and local authorities are planning to demolish to erect a picnic shed in its place for tourists.Elphinstone Point is one of the highest points in Mahabaleshwar overlooking the two valleys, with rivers Koyna on the left and Savitri on the right. The lofty cliff commands a panoramic view of the Pratapgarh Fort, Koyna Valley and nearby plains. One can also admire the ravine, which lies between Elphinstone Point and Arthur Seat Point.

Beware of Monkeys here as they can grab your food or water (if kept unattended).

Duration of Visit: One hour.

On the way to Arthusr seat Point there are few small points like Marjorie Point,Savitri Point,Monkey Point and Castle Rock Point.

Marjorie Point

Marjorie Point is about 500 meters below the valley with drop-offs from this point arising from the valley itself. Offering enchanting panoramic views of the Sahyadri Range, Marjorie Point is named after a prominent British administrator who found this location and served in these parts before independence. After clicking few pics we moved to Savitri Point. After reaching Savitri Point we came to know that this point was closed for few days, so without wasting time we moved to Arthur Seat Point.

Arthur Seat

One has to walk nearly 20-25 minutes from parking to reach Arthur Seat Point. That is the final point at Arthur Seat. Outside toilets are available at this point.

At entry point as well as throughout the point there are many stalls which serve Corn,Bhel,Maggie,Strawberry, cool drinks etc.One can enjoy this items.

Note: Arthur’s Seat Point area has 6 points in total viz Arthur’s Seat Point, Echo Point, Hunter Point, Tiger Spring Point, Window Point and Malcom Point. Hunter Point as its name suggests was used for hunting by British Officers.

Echo Point returns back one’s voice when shouted loudly into the valley. There is one more Echo Point in Mahabaleshwar at Kate’s Point which is more popular of the two.

Tiger Spring Point

Tiger Spring Point has spring having natural cool and safe potable water. Wild Animals used to drink water here. Original name of this point is Gayatri Taake. I had water from this point in a glass which was clear and cool.

Malcolm Point is a great place to view Toranagad, Pratapgad and Savitri Valley.

Window Point is in front of Arthur’s Seat Point. It got its name because of its naturally formed window shaped mountain. This Point was closed during our visit.

Arthur’s Seat is the most popular point in Mahabaleshwar. Although, popularly it is called as Queen of the Points, original name of the point is MadhiMahaal. Located at around 13 Kms from Mahabaleshwar Market, Arthur’s Seat point is at height of 1470m

It is famous for floating of light objects. If you throw light things like cold drink cap in the valley, it comes up again due to air pressure. This point is named after Arthur Malet who lost his wife and 1 month old daughter in a tragic ferry accident in Savitri River. Arthur used to sit here and stare at the river. From Arthur’s Seat Point, one can see picturesque vista having Konkan on one side and Desh (Deccan) on the other. The stratification of rocks on southern side looks like world famous Grand Canyon of Colorado.

After spending for 2 hrs around 3pm we reached Venna Lake.

Venna lake is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Mahabaleshwar. Venna lake is man made lake and not a natural lake. Row and Peddle boats are available for the tourists. Horse riding, fun fair games like toy train, merry-go-round are popular with children. Venna lake Choupati stalls serve typical choupati food.

Visiting hours: 9 am to sunset, everyday.

Peak Time: After 4:00 PM (Parking of vehicles will be difficult during this time and also heavy rush at boating point too.)

Waiting Time: 30-45 minutes

Admission fees: Charges for Row and Peddle boats

Row and Peddle boats are available for the tourists. It is very popular spot among honeymooners as well as families. Waiting time for Venna Lake boating is around 30-45 minutes.

Venna Lake Boating Charges

Row and Peddle boats are available for the tourists at below charges.Deposit is 1000 rs.

Boat Type Time People Price

Row Boat 30 mins Max 7 ₹ 400

Row Boat 60 mins Max 7 ₹ 800

Peddle Boat 60 mins Max 6 ₹ 600

One can also buy agricultural products like carrots, Strawberry and Corns. We didn’t had much time for boating activity but enjoyed the beauty of this point by taking few clicks and video.

Lodwick Point

We reached this point around 03:45 pm. From parking area there is a broad pathway which leads to this point after walking for 10 mins. Located around 5 km west of Mahabaleshwar, Lodwick Point is another vantage point on the list of numerous viewing points of the city. Offering unparalleled views of the cityscape and surroundings, this point is popular among tourists. It was known as Sydney Point until the British officer General Lodwick climbed to it. The point was renamed to honor his achievement and a 25 feet memorial pole was erected at the point. The head of General Lodwick sculptured in marble is positioned at the base of the pillar. You can enjoy impressive views of the Pratapgarh Fort and Elphinstone Point from here. Wrapped in lush greenery it is the perfect spot to unwind.

There are two Elephant’s Heads in Mahabaleshwar. One is an obviously shaped elephant trunk at Kate’s Point which has been wrongly posted as the Attraction Photo for the Elephants Head at Lodwick Point.
