Marquette University commencement date still up in the air because of Bucks playoff schedule

marquette university visit days

Marquette University is about three weeks out from commencement, and families are still waiting to hear which date it will be.

The lack of scheduling clarity has frustrated families trying to make travel plans and book restaurant reservations.

Uncertainty surrounding the Milwaukee Bucks and their NBA playoff performance is causing the delay. Marquette slated the graduation ceremony for either May 11 or May 12 at Fiserv Forum.

Both dates fall during the second round of the NBA playoffs. Because the first round starts April 20, Marquette said on Thursday it was the university's understanding that it wouldn't receive notification of which date Fiserv would be needed until April 28, or game 4, at the earliest. The decision could come as late as May 4, game 7, depending on the Bucks performance.

That strays from what Marquette said in late February when the university said it expected to be notified of the commencement date "sometime in the next few weeks."

"To host an event of this size and with all the pomp and circumstance our graduates deserve, we wanted to secure the absolute best venue in Milwaukee to celebrate our graduates," the university said Feb. 29.

The new timeline also differs from what Marquette told WISN on Wednesday . A university statement said Marquette was working closely with Bucks staff to try to resolve the scheduling issue "in the next few days."

Marquette officials declined to respond to a question about the shifting timeline. Asked whether Marquette would continue holding commencement at Fiserv given the scheduling uncertainty associated with the NBA playoffs, a university spokesperson said the focus was on this year's celebration and Marquette would "learn from this year to do our best to avoid a similar situation in 2025 and beyond."

Adding to families' irritation is the fact that this year's class graduated high school in spring 2020. Many of the students saw their high school ceremony severely disrupted, if not canceled outright, because of the pandemic.

"Marquette leaders share in our students’ and their families’ frustrations and continue to ask for patience and understanding while the university awaits the Bucks’ schedule," the latest university statement said .

The statement also announced the ceremony's commencement speaker. Global Brigades CEO and co-founder Dr. Shital Vora will deliver the keynote address. As a student in 2003, Vora established the first Marquette Medical Brigades club, which morphed into the international nonprofit it is today.

Milwaukee Area Technical College is also holding its commencement at Fiserv and in limbo on the date. The event is scheduled for the weekend of May 17-19. The college's website indicates it would share a date "once the playoffs dates are known and no less than 30 days before the commencement weekend."

UW-Milwaukee doesn't face the same scheduling dilemma as Marquette and MATC. UWM's commencement is slated for May 19 at the UWM Panther Arena.

Business students share stories from Spring Break trips abroad

Students return from Czech Republic, Switzerland, Vietnam with broadened horizons

  • By Andrew Goldstein | Marketing Communications Associate

marquette university visit days

The College of Business Administration offers a wide range of short-term study abroad options over Spring Break. From undergraduate and MBA students visiting the Czech Republic to commercial banking students spending time in Switzerland, Marquette Business makes it possible to get an international education without the semester-long commitment.    Our students were eager to share insights from the trips they took:

HARPER STOPPACHER – CZECH REPUBLIC Junior majoring in marketing, economics and international business

marquette university visit days

Traveling to the Czech Republic for the Spring Break Study Abroad program was an unforgettable experience that made me a more well-rounded business professional. I was paired with a Czech student to compare marketing in America versus the Czech Republic as part of the work and I quickly learned that Czech feedback is more direct than in the U.S. and that Czechs are very prompt. Every time we visited a company like AimTec in Pilsen or toured a unique historic city like Karlovy Vary, our group was expected to be ready to go at the scheduled time. The professionals we met with and our tour guides were also very careful to stay within their allotted times.

It was also interesting to be in a country that exports more than they import. Skoda is a huge car brand that makes up a large portion of Czech exports. Nearly everyone in the Czech Republic drives a Skoda and has some connection to the company’s manufacturing. This gave me a new perspective on business that I will keep in mind as I enter the professional world.

JONATHON SLAYTON – CZECH REPUBLIC Master of Business Administration candidate

marquette university visit days

Overall, our trip to Pilsen and Prague was a great experience; in fact, I think it’s one of my top experiences with Marquette. After visiting, I can see now why Marquette and the University of West Bohemia have had such a long partnership. We have a shared culture and passion for beer!

I really enjoyed the soccer match that we went to. The game went to overtime and then penalty kicks. That was so much fun to attend. I also enjoyed hearing a lecture on the future of business and artificial intelligence at our partner university’s satellite campus in Cheb, another small town. Overall, the trip has made me a more well-rounded individual and professional. Being exposed to other cultures and ways of doing business always expands your perspective and allows you to reflect on your own experiences more. I encourage every Marquette student to consider a study abroad experience.

ABBY MILATZ – CZECH REPUBLIC Junior majoring in accounting

marquette university visit days

The trip to the Czech Republic allowed me to deepen my understanding of international business practices and Czech culture. On the trip, we were able to tour multiple businesses that are essential to the Czech economy. I loved touring the Pilsner Urqell and Becherovka facilities, as they are important to the economy and identities of Pilsen and Karlovy Vary, respectively. I found it interesting to learn about how Cold War policies affected business operations too. In addition to the business tours, the helpfulness of the Czech students and teachers greatly added to my experience. They were so willing to show us local spots in the cities, explain the differences between their university and ours, and immerse us in the culture. Overall, this trip allowed me to meaningfully compare a European economy against our own through real-life experiences.

CAM HEISER – SWITZERLAND Senior majoring in human resources, accounting and finance

marquette university visit days

The study abroad trip to Switzerland over spring break was an eye-opening experience. The company visits and cultural exploration activities allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of the work environment overseas. One of the best experiences was being able to see the vault at multinational bank UBS. We were able to get an inside look at how clients can store valuables and the many options they have for safe deposit boxes or even safe deposit rooms.

Another amazing experience was being able to travel across Switzerland on our free day. With a group of three others, I went from Zurich to Bern to Geneva to Lausanne, and then right back to Zurich. Throughout that day, we saw amazing sights like the United Nations building and the fountain in Geneva. Overall, I would recommend this trip to anyone interested in learning more about Switzerland and the banking sector.

GARRETT BUTLER – SWITZERLAND Junior majoring in finance and business analytics

marquette university visit days

Over Spring Break, I decided to go to Zurich, Switzerland with the commercial banking program. We visited a lot of cool companies like UBS, Victorinox, SNB, Lindt and more. I didn’t know anyone in my group going into the trip, but we became friends by the end and that was really cool.

The major thing that stood out to me about this trip is the cultural barrier. In Switzerland, we had to adapt very quickly to function in a country that didn’t speak a lot of English and had a completely different way of living. This will help me when it comes to trying new things and adapting to different experiences within the workforce. This trip also pushed me outside my comfort zone to talk to strangers when I was trying to get somewhere or understand something. I believe this will greatly aid my communications skills.

RYAN SOHN – VIETNAM

marquette university visit days

This trip impacted my Marquette University journey both academically and socially. In my studies, I want to continue learning about different aspects of Vietnam, especially with regards to the business world. I can do this by keeping up with current events in Vietnam and learning how their economy continues to grow. Socially, I have made good friends on the trip I would not have found on my own.

From touring aluminum factories to experiencing the Chu Chi Tunnels, the Marquette University and HUTECH students were able to have fun, lasting memories with each other. We all got to spend time outside the classroom together, where the HUTECH students showed us tasty restaurants and bustling marketplaces.

It was phenomenal working with students from all different majors and discussing our perspectives on the world. I have already talked to many of the Marquette University students on campus and connected to the HUTECH students through social media, and I can not wait to see where our lives go.

Good to know. For more information, click on the places to open the dedicated blog posts.

Main places to visit in Moscow & best things to do in Moscow

Iconic place and one of the must-see places in Moscow and even in Russia! Besides, if there was only one place to visit in Moscow in 2 days, this place would then be Red Square, without hesitation. Therefore, starting the city tour with Red Square is ideal . Several buildings are on the square, but not all of them have to be visited. Check out my blog post about Moscow’s Red Square in detail to learn more and not miss anything.

Take a walk in Zariadye park: one of the coolest things to do in Moscow after visiting Red Square

Zaryadie Park is just a 10-minute walk from St. Basil’s Cathedral, so it’s easy to include in your itinerary if you’re going to visit Moscow in 2 days. From its heights, you can see the red walls of the Kremlin. But, the most impressive point of view is the platform which overlooks the Moskva river. A must see! And clearly one of the coolest things to do in Moscow!

  • Open 24 hours a day
  • Good to know! Park Zaryadye is also a place to visit in Moscow in winter. Find out more here: What to do in Moscow in winter?

Visit the Moscow Kremlin

Visit Kremlin is on top of things to do in Moscow. A place of power for centuries, the Kremlin then shows us a whole different image when viewed from the inside. If you want to visit Moscow in 2 days, the Kremlin is certainly one of the must-see places in Moscow.

  • Opening hours : Daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Thursday.

Visit the Cathedral of Christ the Savior

This impressive Moscow Cathedral is the seat of the Russian Orthodox Church. It is a must see if you visit Moscow in 2 days and clearly one of the things to do in Moscow. The Cathedral of Christ the Savior was first built in 1883 in memory of Russia’s victory over Napoleon’s Grand Army. Then in 1931 Stalin ordered its destruction. It was then rebuilt again (identically) only in 2000.

  • Where? Ulitsa Volkhonka 15. At the foot of the Kropotkinskaya metro station.
  • Opening hours . Daily: 10: 00-17: 00, except Monday: 13: 00-17: 00
  • Free entry (some closing restrictions, for example a short)

Good to know! In orthodox religious places, one must avoid excessively uncovered clothing. Women should cover their heads. After visiting the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, you can explore Bolotny Island and Gorky Park. This is one of the routes our guide to Moscow.

Cathedral of Christ the Savior

The old Krasny Oktyabr factory: one of the coolest things to do in Moscow

If you cross the Moskva River by a pedestrian bridge which is located just in front of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, you will enjoy a beautiful view of the city and at the same time you can discover Balchug Island. Furthermore, if you want to visit Moscow in 2 days, you can include this island in your itinerary between the cathedral and Gorky park. Here is the old confectionery factory Krasny Oktyabr, which has gradually turned into a fashionable micro-district. There are then some elements of street art, cafes and restaurants and some Moscow bohemian side. At the end of the island you can see a gigantic 98-meter-high monument dedicated to the Russian reforming tsar Pierre The Great.

Good to know! You can find on this island are the trendiest nightclubs in Moscow. On weekends, there are taxi caps after midnight so there are so many people. On the other hand, if you go there in winter and during the day, the island is quite empty and less interesting to see.

Gorky Park is one of the TOP places to visit in Moscow, because it allows you to better understand the life of the locals and their rhythm. In fact, it’s a huge entertainment park. For example, in winter there is a giant ice rink and in summer – free dance or yoga lessons, sandy beaches for playing volleyball, an outdoor cinema. So, like the locals, have a Stakantchik (ice cream or cooked corn), and enjoy the atmosphere of the place: that’s one of the interesting things to do in Moscow to discover the city.

  • Where? Krymsky Val 9. 20 minutes’ walk from Krasny Oktyabr, along the quays.

Sparrow Hill and Moscow State University

The Sparrow Hill, Vorobiovy Gori in Russian, is the highest point in Moscow. It is rather known to Russians, but less to travelers. A nice view on Moscow opens from the hill, and in particular on the Luzhniki Stadium. In addition, on the hill itself is the Moscow State University: an impressive skyscraper from the Soviet era.

  • How to get there? By bus T7 (35 min) from Oktyaborskaya station, near Gorki Park. By metro (Vorobiovy Gorki station) + climb the hill on foot. On foot along the Moskva along the Gorky Park (1h30) + climb in funiculars.

Good to know! It is possible to cross the Moskva river by funicular. We actually tested it and it was pretty cool! That is one of our favorite things to do in Moscow!

What to do in Moscow

What to do in Moscow in 3 days?

If you are going to visit Moscow in 3 days, it would be interesting to dive into the Soviet era which strongly marked the country and the city. After the Bolshevik Revolution, the capital was transferred from Saint Petersburg to Moscow, in order to mark the change of power. Moscow then became the world showcase for communist ideology. Here are the best things to do in Moscow for 3-day-trip!

VDNKh, visit Moscow of the Soviet era

VDNKh is a large exhibition center in the north of Moscow, where there are still several striking witnesses of the USSR. The most interesting are the Museum of Cosmonauts and the Statue of the Worker and the Kolkhozian , which will certainly impress you with its size!

Visit

GULAG History Museum

The explanations of the museum are very well done. We really have the feeling of going back in time. If you are going to visit Moscow in 3 days and you are interested in history and this subject in particular, I recommend this museum. Visit the GULAG History Museum is one of the most interesting things to do in Moscow.

Discover the Patriarche Pounds district

It’s a nice neighborhood in Moscow where you can come across rather affluent locals, but not necessarily very bling-bling. Take a walk in this area is really a cool thing to do in Moscow! In addition, the Ponds of Patriarch is one of the places of Bulgakov’s novel “Master and Margarita”. As this is an interesting area to see, we have included it in a walking tour of Moscow. The route ends at the Moscow Kremlin, which is very convenient, because you will be able to visit Moscow in 3 days by optimizing your trips.

What to visit in Moscow in 4 days: TOP things to do in Moscow in 4 days

If you want to visit Moscow in 3 days, you will already see a lot of things. On the other hand, if you stay one more day, you have plenty to do! The Novodevichy Convent, the Tchistie Proudy district and the Izmaylovo Kremlin are very good candidates for you, if you are going to visit Moscow in 4 days.

Visiting Novodevichy Convent in Moscow

The Novodevichy Convent is one of the most brilliant examples of Russian architecture, according to UNESCO. This beautiful complex was built in 1524 and today consists of the convent, but also of a cemetery whose status could be compared to that of Père-Lachaise in Paris. Visiting Novodevichy Convent is one of the great things to do in Moscow, if you want to go a little bit outside of the center!

What to see in Moscow in one day

Discovering Tchistye Proudy district

It’s one of the most popular areas of Moscow, with many cafes, restaurants and bars nearby. It is therefore a place to discover if you want to visit Moscow in 4 days. It is just as pleasant for a stroll as for the discovery of local life. For example, in winter the pond turns into an ice rink.

Visiting the Izmaylovo Kremlin, one of the coolest things to do in Moscow!

The Izmaylovo Kremlin is more of a tourist than a historic place. On the other hand, it is a pretty impressive place to discover, especially on weekends. Inside the Kremlin, there is a flea market where you can find a little bit of everything, but mostly good souvenirs to bring from Moscow. For example, chapka, traditional Russian scarves or matryoshka (Russian dolls). Add the Kremlin and the Izmaïlovo market to your itinerary if you are going to visit Moscow in 4 days, because it is a nice and very colorful place! Visiting the Izmailovo Kremlin is one of the things to do in Moscow, if you want to put colors in your Instagram account! 😉

Things to do Moscow blog

In 4 days, we will have the opportunity to see several Moscow: Classic Moscow, Moscow of old Russia, Soviet Moscow and a little bit of the new Moscow. So what to visit in Moscow on the 5th day of travel?

What to visit in Moscow in 5 days?

Art lovers will be delighted to discover the Tretyakov Gallery and the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, while others will prefer to stroll along Arbat Street, see the buildings of Moskva-City or visit Bunker 42.

Admiring Russian art at Tretyakov Gallery

Founded in 1856 by an industrialist and great lover of art, the gallery has grown over the decades, and then bequeathed to the state. Today the collection includes more than 140,000 pieces, 15,000 of which are paintings. Visiting the Tretyakov Gallery is one of the things to do in Moscow if you want to discover Russian art!

  • Where? Pereoulok Lavrouchinski 10. A 5-minute walk from Tretiakovskaya station
  • Opening hours. Open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Closed on Mondays.
  • Entry tickets. 500 RUB.

Museum to see

Visiting the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts

The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts presents the treasures of ancient Egypt, the paintings of Rembrandt and Cézanne, a fine collection of Impressionism.

  • Where? Ulitsa Volkhonka 12
  • Opening hours. Daily: 10: 00-20: 00, except Thursday: 11: 00-21: 00. Closed on Mondays. The boxes close an hour before closing.
  • Entry tickets. The prices vary according to the collections from 300 to 750 RUB.

Walking on Arbat Street

All Russians know Rue Arbat. So, walking on Arbat street is one of the things to do in Moscow. However, after the years, little by little it became very touristy. This is a pedestrian street only. There are souvenir shops, restaurants and cafes there, but it is no longer the most authentic neighborhood in the city.

Seeing the buildings of Moskva-City (Moscow City)

Moskva-City is Moscow’s business center, much like Paris’s Defense district. The skyscrapers of Moskva-City are among the tallest in Europe: 373 meters high! Very nice place to see at dusk.

Good to know! You can admire a nice view of Moscow City from the docks of Tarasa Shevchenko. It’s especially beautiful in the evening with all the lights on.

Bunker 42, one of the most unusual things to do in Moscow

Bunker 42 is a secret military complex which was to be used by the Soviets in the event of a nuclear attack: a space of 7000 m² 65 meters underground!

  • Where? 5 Kotelnitcheski Lane, 11.
  • Prices. 2200 RUB per person
  • Opening hours. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Restaurant inside. Original, but rather a tourist trap.

What to visit in Moscow in 6 days or more?

There are still so many places to see, because Moscow is a big megalopolis and there is always something exciting to do there. For example: the ancient Kolomenskoye village or the WINZAVOD contemporary art center .

If you are interested in history and want to see Russian cities on a rather “human scale”, it would certainly be interesting for you to discover the cities of the Golden Ring . For example, it is very easy to get to Sergey Posad from Moscow (less than 2 hours in train). Visiting the Golden Ring is one of the best things to do in Moscow if you are staying more than a 5-6 days.

There are still plenty of places to see in Moscow, however I did my best to list here the best things to do in Moscow, what to see in Moscow in one day, but also in 2, 3, 4 or 5 days in Moscow!

MSU Extension Fruit & Nuts

Southwest michigan fruit update – april 16, 2024.

Mike Reinke <[email protected]> , Bill Shane <[email protected]> and Cheyenne Sloan <[email protected]> , Michigan State University Extension - April 16, 2024

Fruit crops are developing rapidly in southwest Michigan.

Plum fruit blooming.

The week started out fairly warm in the low 70s. This warm weather has helped move along crop phenology. As the week progresses, there is a likelihood of scattered showers or thunderstorms, particularly towards the middle and end of the week. These showers mean there are chances for disease infections, so keep an eye on the weather as the week ends. Depending on how the showers develop, there is also the potential for more severe weather including high winds. These storms could bring slightly cooler temperatures along with precipitation, with the lowest temperatures predicted for Sunday night, April 21, into Monday morning.

Watch the latest weather report from Michigan State University meteorologist Jeff Andresen .

Warmer temperatures over the weekend have pushed all tree fruit into bloom with increased bee activity.

Apricots are still in petal fall with fruit starting to swell in the shuck in central Berrien County. Brown rot infections are favored by wet conditions and temperatures over 50 degrees Fahrenheit during bloom.

Peach and nectarine are at mid-bloom in Berrien County and early bloom in Allegan County. With bloom, potential peach crops look better than originally estimated for some farms in northwest Berrien County near the Allegan County line.

The Trevor Nichols Research Center in Fennville, Michigan, reported first catch this week of oriental fruit moth adults in their trapline. The estimated biofix using GDD base 45 F for oriental fruit moth activity (starting March 1) is 175 GDD for first adult emergence (biofix 1). This would put estimated biofix 1 for central Berrien County at April 12. Control is recommended at approximately 100-150 GDD base 45 F after biofix 1 for selective products with ovicidal activity or 170-195 GDD (10-15% of egg hatch) for organophosphates, carbamates and pyrethroids (check product) from the biofix date. Daily GDD base 45 is currently ranging from 5 on cool days to 20 on warm days. Pheromone disruption for first generation flight, if wanted, should be installed in the next day or two.

Cherry bloom has moved quickly with sweet cherries at early petal fall and tart cherries at full bloom. Bract leaves have unfolded in tart cherries, which means that stomates are mature enough for infection by cherry leaf spot in central Berrien County. Cherry leaf susceptibility for central Berrien County is April 8 (250 GDD base 42 after Jan. 1). Brown rot can occur under a wide range of temperatures (40 to 86 F), but optimal temperature is 64 to 78 F, with 4-plus hours of wet conditions.

Tart cherry leaves starting to unfold.

In plums, Shiro Japanese plum fruit buds are at petal fall and Stanley European plum moved from tight cluster last week to full bloom over the past weekend in Berrien County. Critical time for fungicide control for black knot is petal fall (usually mid- to late May) to late June (10-inch new shoot growth). Fungicide treatment must be combined with thorough pruning to remove knots. Like other stone fruit, brown rot infections are favored by temperatures in the 60s and 70s with rain.

Apple early variety Zestar is at pink to early king bloom and most other varieties are at pink in Berrien County. Retain (AVG) applications can help extend flower viability if cool conditions during bloom delay fertilization. Promalin treatment is another option to help preserve fruit production if borderline freeze conditions occur during bloom cause slight damage to flowers. Apple scab ascospores continue to be caught in good numbers in area traps. Powdery mildew treatment begins at tight cluster for susceptible varieties, and juniper rust treatment at pink for orchards with junipers and cedars nearby.

Pear (Bartlett) fruit buds are at popcorn (blossoms not quite open) with Harrow Sweet slightly behind in Berrien County. Continued scab sprays are needed to protect green tissue against infection. Fire blight management is needed for susceptible varieties when temperatures above 70 F and rain occurs during bloom. Fire blight resistance to streptomycin is widespread throughout most of the western Michigan apple and pear growing regions.

Small fruit

Grape budbreak is underway. Early hybrids like Marquette are showing green tissue. Open leaves are expected this week. Other hybrids are between late bud swell and early leaf opening. Juice grapes are in late bud swell as well. Pruning for the spring should be finishing up. For growers looking to delay budbreak, some research indicates oils such as Amigo sprayed on dormant buds can delay budbreak for a few days, but delayed pruning seems to have more consistent results. Grapes break bud near the upper portions of the canes first. By waiting until frosts are finished before final pruning, the early buds that will be pruned off anyway will get damaged. Once those canes are removed, the retained buds will open later.

Grape buds ready to bloom.

In blueberries , with the warm weather last week and this week, blueberries are at early pink bud in southern Berrien County with Pawpaw, Michigan, up through Fennville being at the end of tight cluster. It’s supposed to be warm through the beginning of this week and plants are expected to move quickly. Green tissue was observed up through Fennville, which means the window to apply dormant sprays like Sulforix or lime sulfur products to suppress early season diseases is nearly closed.

Blueberries with leaf tissue in front of a hand.

Strawberry flower trusses are beginning to emerge. Remember, critical temperatures for strawberries are 10 F when they’re in the ground and 20 F when they’re out of the ground. Keep an eye on the phenology of your strawberries with the potential for cold weather this weekend.

Growers are looking at early season herbicides to control overwintering weeds. When selecting an herbicide, check the preharvest interval (PHI). We are getting to the part of spring where some herbicide PHIs are cutting it close to predicted harvest dates.

Bramble leaves have begun emerging from both summer and fall bearing varieties. The window for applying dormant sprays is closing fast.

Upcoming meetings

Our weekly Monday Night South Michigan Fruit IPM Meetings will once again be a hybrid format. The meetings will be held in-person at the Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center, 1791 Hillandale Rd, Benton Harbor, MI 49022, with virtual attendance available online. Our next meeting is Monday, April 22, at 5:30 p.m. No advanced signup is needed for attending in-person. The meetings are free, and one pesticide applicator credit is available for each meeting.

The MSU Extension blueberry team will be hosting a Blueberry Pollination Meeting on May 15 the Trevor Nichols Research Center in Fennville.

Additional information and surveys

Michigan State University is running a  pollinator survey  this spring and summer to understand how people interact with pollinators in natural, urban and managed landscapes. The  survey  is anonymous and takes only 10-15 minutes to complete.

4-H Exploration Days registration is now open

M ARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WJMN) – This summer, youths from ages 12 to 19 have the opportunity to check out options at a university in Michigan all while creating friendships, gaining leadership experience, and working on independence. 4-H Exploration Days is an event held at Michigan State University where youths gather to learn about some opportunities they have for future careers while also gaining important life skills.

Over 100 hands-on learning sessions about a variety of interesting topics will be available to the youths attending.

“There’s lots of stuff with computers and robots and things like that,” said Liana Pepin, the Marquette County 4-H Program Coordinator and Extension Coordinator. “There’s always a lot of interest in photography. There’s also sailing and kayaking. Let’s see, there’s American Sign language. Lots of different choices. I mean, there’s something for everyone. There’s acting, there’s cooking, there’s different cultural experiences. So the sky’s the limit.”

The Marquette County delegation along with other Western U.P. counties will depart on Monday, June 17th by bus and will go through Chicago and stay the night there. They will spend Tuesday in Chicago visiting the Shedd Aquarium and Field Museum before heading to East Lansing.

4-H Exploration Days will take place from June 19th through the 21st where the attendees will get to experience campus life by staying in MSU’s residence halls, eating at the on campus facilities, and taking part in learning sessions in university lecture halls and classrooms. Youths will learn important life skills such as time management, responsibility, and problem solving while they independently navigate life on campus.

“Young people get an opportunity to experience different parts of our area, meaning the state of Michigan and beyond this year, because they’re going through Chicago,” said Pepin. “They get to meet and mingle with young people from all over the state, and they’re there with a bunch of caring adults who are guiding them through the experience. And they come back with new skills, with new friends, with maybe a renewed sense of their future. Right? So, they just really, they’re excited and it’s a highlight for most of our kids. They talk about it all year long. They can’t wait to go again.”

If you want to know more about registering your youth for 4-H Exploration Days, you can contact Liana Pepin at [email protected] . To learn more about this event, you can find the brochure posted on the Marquette County Michigan 4-H Facebook page here . Trump, Baldwin Narrowly Ahead In Marquette Poll of State

7 months before election Baldwin leads Hovde by 5 points, Trump leads Biden by 2 points.

Tammy Baldwin and Donald Trump.

Tammy Baldwin and Donald Trump.

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump remain locked in a tight race in Wisconsin, according to the latest poll released by Marquette University Law School, which showed Trump leading Biden 51-49 among registered voters.

In Wisconsin’s race for U.S. Senate, Democratic incumbent Tammy Baldwin led Republican challenger Eric Hovde 52-47 percent among registered voters — though among likely voters, the race was tied.

The results are the latest snapshot of where voters stand less than seven months from Election Day, when Wisconsin could again be one of a handful of states that decide the presidency, not to mention control of the U.S. Senate.

Marquette’s poll surveyed 814 registered voters through a combination of phone interviews and online polling. The results for both races were within the margin of error, which was plus or minus 4.8 percent.

In the race for president, the margins didn’t change when Marquette asked a smaller sample of likely voters. But when third party candidates were added to the mix, they pulled support from both frontrunners.

Among registered voters in a five-candidate race, Trump received 41 percent compared to 40 percent for Biden. Among the third-party options, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was the top choice of 13 percent, followed by the Green Party’s Jill Stein at 3 percent and independent candidate Cornel West at 2 percent.

For Trump, the survey represented a slight move in his direction compared to Marquette’s last survey in late January , when he and Biden were tied among registered voters. But Marquette University pollster  Charles Franklin cautioned against reading too much into that result.

“There’s plenty of room for this race to flip either direction,” Franklin said. “And I just think we’re fooling ourselves if we think we have a confident expectation about who’s going to be the winner.”
