Make YOUR Weekend ‘Shine in the Smokies

ole-smoky-moonshine-pigeon-forge

Smoky Mountain moonshine is one-of-a-kind! If you enjoy drinking spirits, moonshine tasting should come top of your to-do list on your vacation in the Smokies . And if you’re visiting in early June, there’s no better way to celebrate National Moonshine Day! This fun annual holiday — held on June 3 for 2021 — invites everyone to join in on the moonshine experience this weekend.

Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and Sevierville, Tennessee, have plenty of distillers welcoming visitors to taste their best-selling moonshine and see how moonshine is made with a distillery tour. Tastings are usually $5, and in exchange, you’ll receive plenty of samples and usually a $5 voucher to purchase a jar o’shine or a souvenir in their shop.

Enjoying Smoky Mountain moonshine is a unique experience that locals are excited to share. When visiting the area, even if you’re not up for a tasting or a tour, be sure to step into one of the distilleries or moonshine shops and take a look around…it’s history in the making.

Moonshine Made Legal White lightnin’ ain’t illegal anymore! Moonshine is legit and ready to sample in the Great Smoky Mountains of Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and Sevierville, Tennessee. Moonshine has been around for centuries and is deeply rooted in Smoky Mountain culture.

Long story short, taxes were too high on alcohol for most farmers a few hundred years ago, so they started distilling and selling whiskey in secret. During the 1920s Prohibition, moonshiners made illegal spirits and bootleggers smuggled jars and jugs across county and state lines. Since 2009, ‘shiners in Tennessee can distill and sell moonshine without hiding, running, or fearing the law.

Today, our Smoky Mountain moonshine tradition continues, and moonshine has become a popular whiskey beverage to enjoy on vacation in the Smokies. Once hidden in caves, the backwoods, and even homesteads, distilleries now offer tastings and tours. You can even check out visible remnants of a secret distillery in the Forbidden Caverns of Sevierville.

Fun Facts About Moonshine

  • Remember the classic “XXX” on jugs in old photos or cartoons? Each X told how many times that batch of moonshine was run through the still. With 3 Xs, it meant high quality alcohol back in the day.
  • The name “moonshine” came about because illegal whiskey had to be distilled in secret. And the best time to work in secret was at night, under the moonlight in the mountains.
  • Mountain Dew was actually developed as a chaser for moonshine in 1932. In fact, the name “Mountain Dew” comes from old Southern or Scots/Irish slang for moonshine.

Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery

Possibly the most widely known of the Gatlinburg moonshine distilleries, Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery was established in 2010.

Moonshine Distillery Tours Near Me

If you’re looking for a “moonshine distillery near me” to tour when visiting the Smoky Mountains, don’t miss The Holler.

The Holler in Gatlinburg is Ole Smoky’s main production and touring facility. You can get a behind-the-scenes look at everything on a guided tour and enjoy a 13-sample tasting of excellent moonshine and whiskey.

If you don’t have time for a tour, you can stop in for samples of up to seven flavors of this Gatlinburg moonshine — such as apple pie, lemon drop, peach, and strawberry.

Ole Smoky has a few other locations as well. The Ole Smoky Whiskey Barrelhouse is in Gatlinburg, the Ole Smoky Barn is in Pigeon Forge, and 6th & Peabody is in Nashville. All of them offer moonshine samples.

Sugarlands Distilling Company

Another popular moonshine tasting Gatlinburg distillery is Sugarlands Distilling Co. , which is proud to be locally owned and community-minded.

The distillery opened downtown in 2014 and offers free guided tours of its facility to give you a look at what happens behind the scenes of moonshine production. Other tour and workshop options include the Blended Cocktail Tour, Meet the Distiller Workshop, and Distiller for the Day Workshop.

The Sugarlands distillery is open nearly every day, and you get to sample the award-winning spirits before you leave.

Moonshine tastings are led by an expert, and you’ll receive tasting notes and cocktail ideas. With every $5 tasting, you get a $5 voucher to redeem with an in-store purchase.

The Tennessee moonshine company store sells Sugarlands spirits, apparel, and mountain merchandise. On the Back Porch pavilion, it hosts evening concerts from time to time.

Tennessee Shine Company

With a location in Gatlinburg, the Tennessee Shine Co. focuses on bottling the best moonshine rather than the most moonshine.

This small-batch distilling company uses family recipes that have been passed down for generations. It makes a variety of unique flavors — Big Orange Dreamsicle, Nanner Puddin’, Choco Moo Shine, Blue Houdini, Pina Colada, and many more.

While you’re getting a taste of these flavorful spirits, you can enjoy a friendly, down-home atmosphere.

On top of that, the TN Shine Co. makes whiskey and wine. The distillery has several other locations as well — Pigeon Forge, Wear Valley, and Sevierville.

At the Sevierville location, you can join a moonshine tour that covers the history of this spirit and its connection to NASCAR. You’ll learn how the spirits are made and sample them too.

Nearby Moonshine Tasting Gatlinburg Distilleries

The Great Smoky Mountains has more than just the three Gatlinburg moonshine distilleries. Many others are spread around the region, and we’ve highlighted a few that we think you should visit for tastings.

Old Forge Distillery

In Pigeon Forge, Old Forge Distillery makes award-winning craft spirits. The quality grains that it uses come from The Old Mill, one of the oldest continuously operating gristmills in the United States.

The moonshine Pigeon Forge distillery stone grinds the grains like the generations before. In addition to mason jars of moonshine, it makes bourbon whiskey, cream liqueurs, gin, rum, vodka, moonshine cherries, and more.

You can even go to the Pigeon Forge distillery cocktail bar for a taste of seasonal and signature cocktails crafted by mixologists.

Tennessee Legend Distillery

More than just a shop for moonshine, Tennessee Legend Distillery was established in 2015. It has two locations in Sevierville — one on Newport Hwy and another on Winfield Dunn Pkwy.

Both of them allow you to taste the award-winning White Lightning Moonshine and Salted Caramel whiskey. The distillery makes cream liqueur and other straight spirits too.

Bootleggers Distillery

There’s a myth that bootleggers created a secret society that tracked down the best moonshine, distillation methods, and recipes. Over the generations, these components were refined, and Bootleggers Distillery in Hartford brings these secrets to the masses.

You can go for a moonshine tour and tasting any day of the week. If you want to make your own whiskey, the Build a Barrel program lets you do that with assistance from the distilling team.

Adventure Distilling Co.

Offering a unique moonshine experience, Adventure Distilling Co. in Cosby has a one-of-a-kind way of making quality liquor.

The still house is located in a small green building on family-owned land. JB’s 103 is its signature spirit, which is 103 proof clear corn liquor.

During tours and tastings, you could meet JB Rader, the legendary namesake of the signature moonshine.

The History of Great Smoky Mountains Tennessee Moonshine

Did you know that moonshine has been around for centuries? It originated in Ireland and Scotland, where distilling and drinking whiskey were traditions. When immigrants from those Celtic countries arrived in the Appalachian Mountains, they used corn to make whiskey.

Decades later, the federal government passed a whiskey tax of $2 per gallon, which was a 20-cent increase that many people in the mountains simply couldn’t afford. As a result, they stopped paying the tax and continued to distill the whiskey.

They became known as “moonshiners,” a word that’s derived from the fact that they secretly made illegal whiskey in the mountains at night. That’s when this particular type of whiskey earned the name moonshine.

In the Great Smoky Mountains, moonshine distillation became a vital source of extra revenue for many farmers. Transforming the surplus corn into whiskey made it more viable and easier to move, trade, and sell. The money that they made helped them pay bills, start new businesses, and provide for their families.

A favorite distilling spot on the Tennessee side of the Smokies was the Forbidden Caverns because it was a remote location with a reliable water supply. You can see an old moonshine still while touring the caverns, which are in Sevierville less than one hour from Gatlinburg.

Famous Moonshiners

One infamous moonshiner was Lewis Redmond, a North Carolina native who became a legend after killing a deputy while trying to avoid arrest in 1876.

He evaded the law and shared his moonshine profits with area residents until he was arrested in 1881. Eventually, he was pardoned and worked in a South Carolina government-operated distillery.

However, the most famous moonshiner of recent history was Marvin Sutton, nicknamed Popcorn. His popularity grew after he appeared in various documentaries and released an autobiography — “Me and My Likker.”

In 2007, the federal government busted him, but he passed away before serving the sentence.

Rumor: In the 1920s, mob boss Al Capone is believed to have hidden his illicit spirits in the Great Smoky Mountains before moving them to Chicago.

Modern Moonshine Distilleries

It wasn’t until 2009 that Tennessee passed a state law that allowed moonshine distilleries to open in Gatlinburg and across the state, making it legal to make moonshine in Tennessee.

Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery was the first in Gatlinburg. Since then, many wonderful moonshine Tennessee distilleries have popped up in the greater area, and tours have become popular.

The Process of Making Gatlinburg Moonshine

Traditionally, the term “moonshining” refers to making or smuggling illegal spirits under moonlight or at night. Now that it’s legal to make moonshine, Gatlinburg distilleries don’t have to operate in secret. Every distillery might use its own ingredients and processes, but the basics are nearly the same.

Essentially, moonshine consists of cornmeal, sugar, water, and yeast, and these ingredients go through two critically timed processes.

Fermentation is the first process, which involves using yeast to convert sugar into acids, alcohol, and gases. The resulting mixture is called the mash.

The second part of the moonshine making process is distillation, the fundamental steps for which include:

  • Heat the mash to about 172 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Evaporate the alcohol, and collect the steam in a worm box (water-filled barrel or crate) through a pipe before it returns to its liquid form.
  • Cool the alcohol vapor in the worm box, allowing it to condense back into a liquid.
  • Filter the liquid from the worm box into a barrel or other container.

Initially, moonshine comes out of these processes as a clear liquid, which is when the flavor and alcohol are most potent.

The color changes after it ages for several months or years in charred oak barrels. In a lot of cases, distilleries add fruits — apples, cherries, peaches, strawberries — and other ingredients to produce a range of flavors of moonshine, which also change the color.

Every single person on the tour enjoyed him guiding us. Even though this was a little bit later in the year, there were still plenty of color to see. We were not rushed and allowed to take many many pictures. Dustin has quite a family history in the area, and he shared that with us, and allowed us to share things with him. • bobaloo000 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Disappointed Not really the tour guides fault but two of the three places we were supposed to visit were closed and we could not go. The company running the tour should have known this and not offered the tour for the night we went. I also found it ironic that a company that offers a Christmas light tour had no lights up at the meeting spot. We drove right past them. No lights, no signs, no standing outside with a reflector vest and flashlight. No music playing. Nothing. They need to improve that. The van itself was old, uncomfortable and warm. The tour guide was the best part. Not only did he patently wait for us to backtrack but he also was actually entertaining on the tour and very apologetic. I would skip this and drive around yourself though. Read more Written December 2, 2023

  • jamessR9862ZH 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Good guide - poor ride While the guide, Dustin, was very informative, the transportation was less than desirable The van had seats for maybe 15 but the seats were not wide enough and uncomfortable. there were a number of stops where the people were to get out of the van to look at the colors of the leaves. It was very difficult for some to exit and enter the van and that made the whole experience distasteful. Dustin, being local, provided a wealth of information about the Smoky Mountain area. He had wonderful stories and definitions of language used in the area. He said that he had scouted to find good spots for viewing color. He took us on the Foothills Parkway to a couple of overlooks where the views were great. He also took us to Elkmont, Daisy Village, I believe he said, to view the historic buildings. That did not seem to be in the description. The trip was scheduled to be five hours long. That meant he needed to stop for a food break and he picked a cafe in Townsend but had said that we could bring our own food if desired. Having a "picnic" at the cafe was not the thing to do. The only tables were at the cafe where patrons of the cafe sat and ate the food purchased in the cafe. I did not feel comfortable taking space where paying customers normally sat. The descriptin should specify that food can be purchased during the tour. The tour was acceptible only because of Dustin, who did good preparation for finding where the good views of colored leaves were, was the guide and provided much good historical and cultural information. Excellent spirits and merchandise. The sample area is a very fun experience. A lot of flavors to sample, coffee moonshine is one of the best!
Absolutely LOVED this place! It is truly a gem. Having come from NC I was pleasantly surprised at all the amazing moonshine products! Customer service was great and they have some crazy delicious jerky flavors and nice souvenirs. We will definitely return each time we're in Pigeon Forge, TN. Recommended!
Such a great place for shopping, moonshine tasting or just hanging out in the lounge. We tasted all of the moonshine that was available that night, which was amazing and the tasting was free. We will definitely be back to visit this distillery the next time we're visiting the Smoky Mountains. Ask for Rob!
This is by far my favorite moonshine distillery to visit in the Gatlinburg area. Tastings are FREE. None of that pay and get a discount stuff. They have a wide variety of flavors. My favorite flavors are the Apple Pie Moonshine and Root Beer Cream. The staff is friendly and makes things really fun for visitors.
A fun place to stop when you visit the Old Mill area. The distillery offered free taste testing of several different moonshines and our flavor guide Rob was funny and entertaining. Our favorite was the French toast! We will definitely recommend this distillery to our friends traveling through Sevier County.
First time to visit but definitely not our last! Love this store. Friendly and helpful staff. Moonshine tasting was awesome. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Found many many flavors we loved, bought several! A lot of different ways to purchase your favorites; mini bottles and large bottles.
We had such a fun time moonshine tasting at Old Forge that we came again a few days later. Rob makes it so fun and personable instead of just “this is the next flavor...”. We had such a blast! Heck, I want to hire him for our upcoming party to do a moonshine tasting LOL. Do yourself a favor and visit Old Forge Distillery!

Find New Flavors With Each Sip

It seems like everyone wants a sip of the region’s unique drinks now that moonshine and wine tours have exploded in popularity.

For moonshine, there’s no experience quite like passing around a jar of hooch among friends. Tours highlighting the drink give your group a chance to check out each distillery’s unique flavor profile. At the same time, they can help your group learn a little more about the region’s prohibition history.

If you’d rather go the wine route, you’ll never find a wine quite like the kind we have here in East Tennessee. Plan a tour to our wine country to get the experience, or combine both tours for a distinct adventure in taste.

Wine Me, Shine Me, Dine Me Tour

Wine me, dine me, shine me tour, hosted by mike and jenn.

Save the driving to the pros and we will just have fun! We get to ride in style on a luxury high top van or limo bus.

This experience hits it all! Wine, Moonshine, Local cuisine, and Appalachian culture.

Let the Husband/Wife team - Mike and Jenn (Hosts of the #1 rated Airbnb Experience Moonshine Walking tour) show you around Pigeon Forge.

We are living our dream showing people this amazing town we came to love over 10 years ago after visiting just like you are!

We meet right across from the Islands in Pigeon Forge!  It is easy to get to from everywhere in the surrounding area.  Once we meet up we will go over what we will do and the guidelines.  After this we will head to one of our favorite distilleries in the area. We will sample "grain to bottle" spirits from Vodka, Moonshine and Whiskey. Next you will be treated to an AMAZING lunch! No bagged lunch here! Fresh and awesome! We will be avoiding the tourist trap distilleries and take you to where WE shop!  The distilleries we go to make their own spirits from start to finish!

After lunch we will either head to a local winery owned by one of the most famous wine families in the region or we will go to our moonshine distillery and do their wine tasting.

One thing to keep in mind that the South is known for sweet wine!  All dry wines in our area are imported grapes.  A true wine experience here is muscadine!  It is in so many country songs and really a part of Appalachian culture.  EVERYTHING is sweeter in the south!

After our wine tasting, We will head out in the van/bus to a true backwoods heritage owned moonshine distillery. You can sample all the way from Choco MOOOO-SHINE to Straight Off the Still 135 proof moonshine.

We have a special relationship with the distilleries we visit that only set up our tastings this way for us.  Instead of just trying a few samples on your own from a pre-determined list, come experience with us!  With almost a 5.0 rating, if your looking to have a good time and not just "taste", this is for you.  We also get special discounts at the places we stop at and they ONLY give these additional discounts to Smoky Tours.

If you are looking for something NEXT LEVEL over just walking into a distillery and having a couple samples......come ride with us!  We made this tour because this is where we shop.  We do not have any employees.  It will be myself (Michael) or my beautiful bride of 20 years...and counting (Jennifer) or both of us.

You will enjoy your tour with one or both of us.  If supporting a small family operation sounds like its for you....you are definitely for us!

Don't see your dates? Large Group? Sold out? Just Message us! Jenn and I co-host.

Head to dollywood for theme park thrills.

Looking to spend the day (or two) going on rides? A visit to Dollywood with the family is a must! Dollywood consistently ranks as one of the top theme parks in the country with more than 50 rides. With so much to do, purchasing a two-day ticket is highly recommended.

Must do rides include the new Big Bear Mountain (longest rollercoaster in the park), Drop Line, and Wild Eagle. If you’d rather hang out and listen to live entertainment or check out a couple shows, Dollywood has that as well. Expect live entertainment ranging from country (of course!) to acapella to Southern gospel music.

Eat up by trying Southern-style food, and don’t even think about forgetting to grab some of their famous cinnamon bread. Watch Lumberjacks in Action

For good ole’ fashioned fun with a little bit of a feud and plenty of laughs, Paula Deen’s Lumberjack Feud is a great time for all. Pick a seat, cheer on for your designated family, and watch as they compete through a series of challenges including log rolling, axe throwing, pole climbing, and more.

The outdoor show, open all year round, provides cover from the elements. Tip: There is a short intermission which is the perfect time to pick up a few snacks like popcorn and some bottles of Paula Deen’s Butter Cream Soda which are only sold here!

Be a Lumberjack

Test your skills and see if you have what it takes to be a lumberjack at Lumberjack Feud Adventure Park . Climb to the top of the 80-foot pole or balance on the log roll or run across a floating log.

Other fun activities include flying through the air on the zipline roller coaster or conquering the ropes course. For the ultimate lumberjack experience, combine the show with the Lumberjack Adventure Park and you’ve got a fun-filled day.

Imagine being on the Titanic

For an educational and eye opening experience, a visit to the Titanic Museum is a must. Upon arrival, guests are given an audio device as well as a boarding pass of an actual passenger from the ship. As we perused through the 20 galleries, we learned about the different classes of passengers, saw real artifacts from the ship, and climbed steps of The Grand Staircase, a  replica of the original.

My kids enjoyed the highly interactive aspects including touching the freezing water (the same temp the passengers experienced), walking up a sloping ship, navigating through the water, learning how to use Morse code, and more. At the end, we found out if our passenger survived. Overall, quite a moving experience.

The Island in Pigeon Forge

The Island in Pigeon Forge is a destination with something for everything in the family – food, shops, activities – they’ve got it all! Conquer the multi-level Island Ropes Course where you can even attempt a simulated free fall. Or enjoy any of the carnival-like rides or play at the arcade.

Our favorite attraction by far was SkyFly: Soar America , a simulated flight through iconic destinations in the nation. Special effects like wind, mist, and scents added to the immersive experience.

Getting hungry? For Southern style cuisine you can’t go wrong with Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen . Feed the family with pizza at The Mellow Mushroom or stop by any of the restaurants or snack shops.

Adults can even try moonshine at Ole Smoky Moonshine ! If you’d rather relax, sit back on any of the rocking chairs surrounding the fountain and watch the water dance to the music.

Enjoy the best view from Pigeon Forge

Located at The Island in Pigeon Forge, the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel offers amazing views of Pigeon Forge and the Great Smoky Mountains atop the glass observation wheel 200 feet in the air.

The gondolas are enclosed and temperature controlled so you can relax and enjoy the view no matter the weather.  For the ultimate view, time your ride as the sun sets and paints the sky.

Experience Beyond the Lens

Beyond the Lens , dubbed as a techno-tainment experience, is hard to describe. You just have to try it for yourself!

The indoor attraction offers plenty of hands-on experiences including gaming opportunities, mini escape rooms, virtual reality, Big Foot sightings, and more!

Want to wander through America? The immersive Fly Ride takes you along scenic vistas in a suspended, free floating seat. There’s something for everyone at Beyond The Lens.

Tee up for the sweetest mini golf

Candyland meets mini golf at Crave Golf Club . You’ll have a sweet time mini golfing at this candy-themed golf course.

Whether you choose between the outdoor mini golf on the rooftop or indoor golf, prepare to have a great time. The different challenges at each hole- like golf with your eyes closed or take a selfie before you golf- add to the experience. Plus, who can deny the awesome photo ops? If you don’t want the fun to end, there is mini-bowling as well as escape rooms to conquer.

8. Visit a historic district

Photo via The Old Mill

Travel back to the historical district of The Old Mill that dates back to 1830. Join the educational guided tour of the Historic Old Mill, a 19th Century grist mill that is still operating today.

Don’t forget to shop at the Old Mill General Store for stone ground grain and other goodies for your next baked treat. For amazing homemade ice cream you can’t go wrong with The Old Mill Creamery . For another sweet treat, The Old Mill Candy Kitchen’s has homemade melt-in-your mouth taffy. Don’t miss the signature Bear Paw, pecans and caramel, coated in chocolate.

Pigeon River Pottery has beautiful homemade creations still made using the same clay recipe used in the beginning, and if you time it right, you may catch them making their creations through the window.

The Pottery House Café, an actual potter’s home build in 1949, serves the most delicious Southern food. You can’t go wrong with the fried catfish, fried chicken, shrimp and grits, and homemade bread made with milled flour from the grist mill. Round out your visit with a stop at The Old Forge Distillery for moonshine tastings.

9. Take a hike

A trip to Pigeon Forge is not complete without taking in the natural beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Whether you are a seasoned hiker or prefer the views from the comfort of your car, enjoying the Smoky’s beauty is easy for all. There’s a reason why it’s the country’s most visited national park!

Take the steep, 0.5-mile trail up Clingmans Dome, the highest point in Tennessee at 6,643 feet up! But trust me, it’s not as easy as it looks!

Chasing waterfalls is an easy feat if you head to Cataract Falls behind the Sugarlands Visitor Center.  Other popular waterfalls are Abrams Falls or Grotto Falls.

Prefer the comfort of your car? Take a scenic driving tour through the Cades Cove Loop or Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. Here visitors are able to soak in the scenery from their vehicle or get out and visit the restored historical structures that were inhabited by the first European settlers. Black bears are sometimes spotted along these drives!

Experience Dinner and A Show, Pigeon Forge Style!

Dinner shows are one of the most popular family friendly activities in the Pigeon Forge. Dolly’s Parton’s Stampede , located at the entrance of Dollywood, offers a four-course dinner in the comfort of your seats while you watch horses and equestrians perform.

Trekaroo Tip: Arrive early to meet some of the horses performing.

At Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Show , guests can indulge in an all-you-can-eat feast of traditional Southern food while watching the feud grow between the Hatfields and McCoys. The live performance includes lots of laughs, music, and stunts.

At Pirates Voyage Dinner and Show , pirates embark on a journey to fun. Join the crew as they see mermaids, pirates, and tropical birds while enjoying a four-course feast.

Have Some Snow-filled Fun, No Matter the Season

Families will have snow much fun at Pigeon Forge Snow , an indoor snow park  It features one of the most beloved snow activities – snow tubing! Featuring real snow, guests can zoom down the slope as many times as they’d like in an hour.

If time allows, kids will love playing in the snow by building their very own snowman or fort. No heavy winter coats are needed here because temperatures hover around 70 degrees.

Cruise down a Mountain Coaster

Mountain coasters are the perfect thrilling family attraction and are quite popular in the area. Go slow and take in the views or zoom on by – either way you are in control of the speed.

Visit the first mountain coaster, the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster which features the longest downhill track in the nation at a mile long. Then, ride on the Rocky Top Coaster , the longest coaster in Tennessee. Zip through tunnels and turns as fast at 30 mph. For a unique experience, ride the coaster at night when it’s all lit up.

Zip through the Treetops

Photo via Legacy Mountain Ziplines

Ziplining is a fantastic way to experience the beauty of the Smokies from above. At Smoky Mountain Ziplines , adventure seekers can zip through over 4,200 feet of cable across seven lines.

You can also zoom through the trees up to 50 mph at Legacy Mountain Ziplines where you’ll encounter seven ziplines and endless mountain views.

Go Horseback Riding

Another way to experience the beauty of the mountains is with horseback riding. Located close to Dollywood, at Goldrush Stables guests are taken through five acres of nature trails through the hills of Pigeon Forge.

At Big Rock Dude Ranch at Ponderosa , three and a half miles of trail through the mountain await. Not only can you go horseback riding, but there are plenty of other activities on the ranch to keep the family entertained like a petting zoo, pond fishing, gem mining, or visiting the museum or General Store.

Where to Stay in Pigeon Forge with Kids

The newly renovated rooms at the Inn on the River are a treat for families. Opt for the riverside rooms with a private balcony or patio overlooking the Little Pigeon River. The double queen bedrooms with sleeper sofa were perfect for my family of five.

Not only are the rooms the perfect size, but families will love the extra amenities including a heated indoor pool and whirlpool as well as an outdoor pool. Every day, kids loved grabbing some freshly popped popcorn and drinks.

The complimentary hot breakfast with biscuits and gravy, waffles, eggs, French toast stick and pancakes was the perfect way to fuel up for a fun-filled day out in Pigeon Forge. The location right on the Parkway always guaranteed our family was a quick ride or walk away from all the activities.
