Pink Announces Summer 2023 Stadium Tour with Brandi Carlile, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo and More

Alt-rock band Grouplove and DJ KidCutUp will also join Pink for the 21-date Summer Carnival 2023 tour

Pink will be flying around stadiums this summer on her biggest United States tour to date!

Fresh off the release of her new single "Never Gonna Not Dance Again," the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, 43, announced on Monday that she'll be embarking on a North American stadium tour next summer alongside opening acts Brandi Carlile , Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Grouplove and DJ KidCutUp.

The 21-date trek, titled the Summer Carnival 2023 tour, will kick off with a July 24th concert at Rogers Centre in Toronto and hit venues in Boston, New York City, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Las Vegas before wrapping up at Chase Field in Phoenix on Oct. 9.

Tickets go on presale for Citi cardmembers from Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. local time through Nov. 20 at 11 p.m. local time. Another presale for members of the Verizon Up loyalty program will go on sale for select shows from Nov. 17 at noon local time through Nov. 20 at 11 p.m. local time. General on-sale tickets then become available Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. local time via Live Nation. More information can be found on Pink's Live Nation page .

Grouplove and DJ KidCutUp will perform as opening acts on all 21 dates, while Carlile as well as Benatar and Giraldo will each appear at select shows.

Ahead of the tour's announcement, both Pink and Carlile, 41, performed a tribute to Dolly Parton at the 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony last week. On Sunday, they teased the stadium tour on social media with a hilarious video filmed backstage at the event.

"Sorry, I'm not trying to ignore you. I just have to make a really important phone call," said Pink in the clip while seated alongside Carlile — before calling the "Right on Time" singer on the phone.

Both musicians greeted each other on the playfully tongue-in-cheek phone call before Pink expressed feeling "really afraid" to ask Carlile a question. "Oh, I'm married," replied Carlile with a laugh, referencing her wife of a decade, Catherine Shepherd.

"Yeah, I do love your wife," giggled Pink, "But will you go on tour with me?"

"F--- yeah!" exclaimed Carlile. "Are we doing this?"

"Yeah!" replied Pink, before the performers shared a high five and ended the pseudo call.

Last week, Pink released her latest single "Never Gonna Not Dance Again" alongside a music video. She'll give the track its live TV debut performance at the 2022 American Music Awards on Nov. 20, where she'll also perform a tribute to the late Olivia Newton-John.

P!nk Summer Carnival U.S. Tour Opener: 7 Best Moments — Soaring, Swinging, Sinead O’Connor Tribute

Wednesday night's (July 26) over-the-top spectacle at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati also featured Brandi Carlile and Grouplove.

P!nk, pink

If Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but backwards and in high heels, then on Wednesday night (July 27) at her U.S. Summer Carnival tour kick-off in Cincinnati, P!nk did everything Rogers did, but in higher (sparklier) heels, while adding sideways, upside down and round-and-round into the mix.

The high-flying singer brought her signature aerial rig to a sold-out, sweltering Great American Ballpark for the second show of her summer extravaganza — it kicked off in Toronto on Monday night — singing flawlessly while boomeranging 100 feet in the air during a two-hour show that mixed joy, pain, pleasure and poignancy with pure spectacle.

Fans have come to expect the former gymnast to take to the air during her concerts, and while P!nk didn’t disappoint on that level during the show that featured spirited opening sets from Grouplove and Brandi Carlile , the singer also found moments to pay loving tribute to her late dad and her musical idol Sinead O’Connor , whose death was reported just hours before showtime.

Inviting Carlile up to join her, P!nk dueted on a reverent cover of O’Connor’s signature Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit, “Nothing Compares 2 U,” with both women summoning their full emotional range to pay homage to the supremely talented, complicated singer who died at age 56 of as-yet-undisclosed causes.

The solemn moment came amid a flashy spectacular that featured neon flamingo scooters and glowing grocery carts skittering around the stage and a mega-trampoline set-up on which dancers performed daring flips and spins to accompany the title track from P!nk’s most recent album, Trustfall . There were also several sweet moments when the singer kneeled down and stopped the show to acknowledge superfans who brought her homemade gifts, which she promised to find a place for at home.

Amid the expected hits (“Get the Party Started,” “Raise Your Glass,” “What About Us,” “F–kin’ Perfect,” “Never Gonna Not Dance Again”) there were some surprise covers and just plain silly moments during a show that featured enough different pink costumes to rival the Barbie movie.

Check out our favorite seven moments from the Summer Carnival show.

Radiohead, Joni Mitchell, Sade and Pat Benatar Cameos

P!nk and Carlile slotted in crowd-pleasing covers amid the originals. Brandi busted out a rocking version of Radiohead’s “Creep” — whose refrain “what the hell am I doing here?” was appropriate given her repeated shock at the huge crowd (“this doesn’t look real”). She also slipped in a “last minute” addition of her idol Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You” that inspired silence from the otherwise rowdy stadium. Likewise, P!nk made time for Dylan (“Make You Feel My Love”), Sade (“No Ordinary Love”) and a brief bit of Pat Benatar’s “Heartbreaker” during a ripping “Just Like Fire.”

'Nothing Compares' to a Beautiful Sinead Cover

P!nk told the crowd that when she was a little girl in Atlantic City she’d go down to the Ocean City Boardwalk and record her “demo tapes” and one of her go-tos was O’Connor’s heartbreaking 1990 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Nothing Compares 2 U.” She paid tribute to the singer whose death was announced just hours earlier via a moving duet with Carlile on the song that brought many in the audience to tears.

Getting the Party Started Right

Singers have 100 different ways they can make an entrance. But nobody does it like P!nk. As her band revved up “Get the Party Started,” fans looked around for the headliner, who was, of course, perched 50 feet above the stage inside a pair of ruby red lips framed by the tour’s title in neon lights. She then descended to the stage in a shiny pink leotard as two shirtless male dancers spun around in oversized candy ring pops. As one does.

Gifts Galore

The recent trend of tossing things on stage at (or to) singers has sometimes taken a dangerous turn . P!nk short-circuited that by bending down to accept some gifts from her diehards during the show, graciously modeling a black apron covered in rainbows and the word “love” while promising to wear it the next time she cooks. She was also touched by a pair of bulldog-bedecked socks she said she’d give to daughter Willow (after she wears them first) and a cute frog painting earmarked for son Jameson’s room.

Cannibal Squirrels, Soaring Hawks

The emotional Trustfall track “When I Get There” is dedicated to P!nk’s dad, Jim Moore, who died in 2021 . She told the Cincinnati crowd a funny story about how when the former pilot was sick he said he’d like to come back as a bird of flight. Or, maybe, a “cannibal chipmunk,” who would bite people to remind her that he’s still around. Now, whenever she sees a hawk flying high above, she said before playing “Get There,” she likes to think it’s her dad. Not for nothing, before her set began, a giant, majestic hawk floated in the air above the crowd for a few minutes.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang

On a night when fireworks, 50-foot-tall silver palm trees and gymnastic tumbling runs were just part of the scenery, the costumes for “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” were like something out of a Rocky Horror Picture Show reboot. In her umpteenth costume change, P!nk strode out in a black leather jacket with oversized pink lips on each shoulder (matched with black high-tops spray-painted with “MAMA” in pink), surrounded by six dancers dressed as, yes, giant pairs of dancing pink lips.

So What? So Everything!

By now you know a P!nk show is going to feature the singer breaking free of the surly bonds of pop stardom and taking to the air, more than once. So it was expected, but no less stunning, when the singer capped Wednesday show with her now-signature flight of fancy. The jaw-dropping aerial stunt during “So What” had P!nk rubber-banding from the stage to the highest, furthest point of the baseball stadium, flipping, spinning and yo-yoing while singing as if standing still as fireworks lit up the sky just like they do when the home team Cincinnati Reds score a victory. Final score: everybody wins.

Doylestown native singer-songwriter Pink is hitting the road next summer for a tour that features a homecoming stop in Philadelphia.

The three-time Grammy winner's Summer Carnival  world tour takes off in June, including her first show at Citizens Bank Park on Sept. 18. Tickets go on sale Monday, Nov. 21.

Fresh off the release of her latest single,  " Never Gonna Not Dance Again ," Pink took to Instagram to announce dates and locations for the North American leg of Summer Carnival.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by P!NK (@pink)

"You’re up North America! See you next year," Pink wrote in the post .

Throughout the tour, featured opening acts will switch between Brandi Carlile or the duo of Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo.  For the Philadelphia show, folk-rock singer-songwriter Carlile, who recently earned seven Grammy nominations , will be the special guest.

Pink asked Carlile to join her tour in a video that went viral on social media, filmed backstage  at the 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony last week where the pair performed a  tribute to Dolly Parton .

When Pink asks, “Will you come on tour with me?” Carlile responds with a “f*** yeah."

Other openers for each show include Grouplove and DJ Kid Cut Up.

On Wednesday morning, members of the Phillies Email Club received an email with a special ticket presale opportunity.

"As a valued member of the Phillies Email Club, you have a ticket opportunity for the potential to purchase tickets to see this pop icon perform for the first time at the home of the 2022 National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies," the email read.

The Phillies presale ticket opportunity begins on Friday, November 18 at 5 p.m. and continues through 11 p.m. on Sunday, November 20, while supplies last.  There are also  presale opportunities  for Citi card members, which began Tuesday, Nov. 15, and members of the Verizon Up loyalty program, which begins Thursday, Nov. 17.  The general public sale starts on Monday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster .

Taylor Swift, a fellow Pennsylvania native superstar, recently had her own Ticketmaster presale gone wrong for her upcoming Eras Tour , with endless online queues, Ticketmaster website crashes and hiked-up resale prices . Hopefully the ticket distribution company is a bit more prepared when Pink fans log on.

Critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter and global pop icon P!NK released her highly anticipated ninth studio album, TRUSTFALL , out now via RCA Records .

Featuring the hit singles “Never Gonna Not Dance Again” and “TRUSTFALL,” as well as her latest release, “When I Get There,” TRUSTFALL marks some of P!NK’s most vulnerable and exhilarating work yet. Featuring collaborations with Chris Stapleton , The Lumineers , and First Aid Kit , as well as tapping notable songwriters and producers Max Martin , Shellback , Greg Kurstin , FRED , Billy Mann , and more, TRUSTFALL is an exploration of the highs and lows of uncertainty, freedom, and letting go.

To celebrate the album, P!NK will make special appearances next week on NBC’s TODAY and CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on February 21 , followed by a show takeover special on The Drew Barrymore Show airing February 27 .

“T his might be the album I’m most proud of,” says P!NK . “Get in your coziest pair of sweats, grab yourself an hour of self-care, and start on track one. Two ingredients needed: tissues and dance shoes.”

Taylor Swift is about to go back on tour: Here's what to expect on the Eras Tour in Paris

pink tour openers 2023

After a two-month break, Taylor Swift is revitalizing her titanic Eras Tour in Paris, and fans believe there are changes coming to the show.

If you are wondering where she's playing, if there will be changes and how to score tickets, here's everything we know.

And if you're new to the Eras Tour party, you can get caught up on the first 83 shows here .

When does the Eras Tour start again?

Swift kicks off the European leg of her tour on Thursday, May 9, in Paris. She will perform Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, as well, in the City of Light.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

What are Taylor Swift's tour dates in Europe?

There are 69 shows left in the Eras Tour: 51 in Europe, nine in America and nine in Canada.

The European leg stretches from May all the way through a five-night stand at Wembley Stadium in London in mid-August.

See a complete list of international dates here .

After she wraps up in Europe, Swift will stop in Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis before wrapping up in Canada.

See the remaining U.S. dates here .

What is the Eras Tour set list?

The Eras Tour has featured a massive 45-song set list you can check out here . But speculation is swirling it won't look the same when Swift takes the stage in Paris.

Will Taylor Swift add 'The Tortured Poets Department' to her set list?

The tortured poet has been on hiatus keeping her stamina up by releasing a double album of 31 tracks. The 2-hours-and-2-minutes project broke a number of Billboard records as the superstar did zero press to promote it. Fans flocked to stores and streaming services to listen to all the songs from "Fortnight" to "The Manuscript."

Although the singer has not confirmed whether her 11th era album will be added to her Eras Tour set list, she did post a YouTube shorts video with two scenes that sent Easter egg decoders into a frenzy. In one of the shots, the singer is next to a railing where a "TTPD" logo appears to be (at 0:11). In the succeeding shot, her back-up dancers perform holding canes and wearing top hats, something they have not worn previously.

Swift's dancers and bandmates posted to their Instagram stories as they left for France last week. The singer did not appear at two media events with her boyfriend Travis Kelce: the Kentucky Derby and a Formula 1 race in Miami , Florida. Patrick Mahomes, Kelce's friend and Kansas City's quarterback, attended the car racing spectacular with his wife, Brittany.

Can I still get Eras Tour tickets?

Swift's show is completely sold out in Europe and North America. There are resale sites with tickets, but be wary of scams. The best way to avoid getting swindled is continuously checking links on Swift's website . There are some for resale on the sites verified by her camp.

Singapore was a hotbed for fans who traveled thousands of miles only to get turned away at the venue. In Tokyo and Australia, last-minute ticket drops happened a few days — without announcement — ahead of the shows.

Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis — the three U.S. cities Swift is visiting in the fall — have some of the heftiest price tags with Canada closely behind. In may be cheaper to travel to Warsaw, Poland, or Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Here's a list of cities with the cheapest resale tickets, according to travel website  Islands.com .

10. Vienna, Austria — total average cost: $1,089, safety score: 69.72

Who are the opening acts?

Paramore launched the Eras Tour in Glendale, Arizona, in March 2023, so it's fitting the American rock band is opening the tour's second year. The act will open for Swift for 51 shows across Europe . The band was dubbed the 2024 Record Store Day global ambassador and surprised fans in Nashville the weekend following the release of "The Tortured Poets Department."

When the tour comes back to North America in October , Swift's opening act will be Gracie Abrams.

Where can I watch if I don't have tickets?

The Eras Tour is one of the first tours that has been followed, globally, by thousands of fans on digital platforms. Fans dedicate part of their concert experience to livestreaming as Swift performs. A few Swifties have learned how to host their own shows over social media including Tess Bohne , known as the livestream queen. Bohne goes live for (almost) every show pulling streams from Instagram and TikTok. When a livestream goes down, she fills the time with banter.

On YouTube, user @TaylorSwiftHockeyBro also livestreams the three-hour show, and on Twitch, @folkleric , is a host fans follow.

There is also an app, Swift Alert , that notifies fans who only want to watch certain eras like the acoustic, surprise set. The app sends out push alerts if there are any major announcements.

What secret songs are left?

For the past 83 shows, Swift has played an acoustic set she customizes at each stop with a guitar and piano performance. In 2024, the Eras Tour star added mashups of her songs for each stop. Here are the songs she has yet to perform:

  • "Taylor Swift" (debut album): "Mary's Song" and "A Perfectly Good Heart"
  • "Fearless": "The Way I Loved You," "Change," "Superstar," "We Were Happy," "That's When," "Don't You" and "Bye Bye Baby"
  • "Red": "Girl At Home," "Ronan," "Forever Winter" and "Run"
  • "1989": "Sweeter Than Fiction"
  • "Reputation": "I Did Something Bad"
  • "Lover": "London Boy," "Soon You'll Get Better" and "It's Nice to Have a Friend"
  • "Folklore": "Hoax"
  • "Evermore": "Happiness" and "Closure"
  • "Midnights": "Paris" and "Glitch"
  • "The Tortured Poets Department": all 31 tracks

Will Taylor Swift perform in 2025?

There have been many rumors that Swift will continue her show in 2025, but they are only rumors. Nothing has been announced for next year, and as of now, the tour will end in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Dec. 8.

Taylor Swift changed The Eras Tour set list to include 'The Tortured Poets Department.' Here are all 46 songs she performs now.

  • Taylor Swift's blockbuster Eras Tour resumed Thursday in Nanterre, France.
  • Swift altered the set list to include songs from her new album, "The Tortured Poets Department."
  • The current Eras Tour set list, which includes 46 various hits and deep cuts, is cataloged below.

Insider Today

Taylor Swift is back on the road for her record-breaking , economy-altering Eras Tour.

The stadium series kicked off last year in Glendale, Arizona, and quickly became a sensation . After making stops across the US, Mexico, South America , Japan, Australia, and Singapore , Swift will continue to perform throughout 2024 in Europe , plus a second North American leg scheduled for later this year.

On Thursday, Swift resumed The Eras Tour in France after a multi-week hiatus.

During that break, Swift released her 11th studio album, " The Tortured Poets Department " — so she adjusted the original 44-song set list to include brand new tracks, though other fan favorites (including " The Archer ," " The 1 ," and " Tolerate It ") were cut for time.

The updated show stretches for over two hours and includes 46 songs. The complete set list is cataloged below, in order of Swift's performance.

"Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince"

pink tour openers 2023

The Eras Tour is Swift's first live tour since 2018. The show opener includes the lyric, "It's been a long time coming, but / It's you and me, that's my whole world."

"Cruel Summer"

pink tour openers 2023

"Cruel Summer" was released as the second track on 2019's "Lover" and never promoted as a single.

However, once The Eras Tour was underway, the song experienced a delayed surge in popularity and became Swift's milestone 10th chart-topper on the Billboard Hot 100 .

"The Man"

pink tour openers 2023

"The Man" was promoted as the fourth single from "Lover," alongside an Easter egg-filled music video .

"You Need to Calm Down"

pink tour openers 2023

"You Need to Calm Down" is an ode to LGBTQ+ rights . The music video, which features a huge cast of queer celebrities , ends with a call to sign the Equality Act .

"Lover"

pink tour openers 2023

"Lover" is the solo-written title track from Swift's seventh studio album. Before she performs the song during The Eras Tour, she tells fans that she hopes it'll hold a special meaning for each individual who hears it.

"These are songs that I have written about my life or things I felt at one point in time," she says in the concert movie. "But after tonight, when you hear these songs out and about in the world, my dream is that you're gonna think about tonight, and the memories we made here together."

"Fearless"

pink tour openers 2023

"Fearless" is the title track for Swift's 2008 sophomore album, which is still known as the most-awarded country album of all time .

"You Belong With Me"

pink tour openers 2023

Swift won best female video for "You Belong With Me" at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards .

"Love Story"

pink tour openers 2023

"Love Story" was the first rerecorded song that Swift ever released from her "Taylor's Version" series.

"22"

pink tour openers 2023

When Swift performs "22" during The Eras Tour, she always gives her bowler hat to one lucky concertgoer .

"We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"

pink tour openers 2023

"We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" was released as the lead single from "Red" in 2012. It became Swift's first-ever No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 .

"I Knew You Were Trouble"

pink tour openers 2023

The third single from "Red," coproduced by Max Martin and Shellback, peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100.

"All Too Well (10 Minute Version)"

pink tour openers 2023

The extended version of "All Too Well" was released as the final track on " Red (Taylor's Version) " after years of fan anticipation.

It debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100, becoming the longest song ever to hold the chart's top position.

"Enchanted"

pink tour openers 2023

"Enchanted" is the only song from Swift's third album, "Speak Now," that she currently performs during The Eras Tour.

For a brief time, following the release of " Speak Now (Taylor's Version) ," Swift added the fan-favorite deep cut "Long Live" to the set list. It has since been removed.

"…Ready for It?"

pink tour openers 2023

"…Ready for It?" was originally teased during ABC's "Saturday Night Football" broadcast in 2017. It was later used by ESPN in college football commercials.

"Delicate"

pink tour openers 2023

Swift's performance of "Delicate" during The Eras Tour features a stage animation that cracks beneath her feet .

"Don't Blame Me"

pink tour openers 2023

"Don't Blame Me" is the sole non-single that Swift performs during the tour's "Reputation" segment. The fan-favorite track is often cited as a highlight of the show .

"Look What You Made Me Do"

pink tour openers 2023

"Look What You Made Me Do," which interpolates Right Said Fred's '90s hit "I'm Too Sexy," was released as the lead single from "Reputation" and debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100.

"Cardigan"

pink tour openers 2023

The No. 1 single "Cardigan" was released alongside Swift's beloved album " Folklore ." The song references Peter Pan and introduces the album's "teenage love triangle."

"Betty"

pink tour openers 2023

"Betty" is told from the perspective of a high schooler named James , who broke the heart of the titular heroine.

"Champagne Problems"

pink tour openers 2023

The heart-wrenching piano ballad "Champagne Problems" often inspires a minutes-long standing ovation during The Eras Tour.

"August"

pink tour openers 2023

Swift's debut performance of "August" took place at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Later that night, she won album of the year for "Folklore," her record-tying third trophy in that category.

"Illicit Affairs"

pink tour openers 2023

"Illicit Affairs" is widely interpreted as a song about marital infidelity, though its descriptions of forbidden love and "clandestine meetings" adopt new meanings through a queer lens .

"My Tears Ricochet"

pink tour openers 2023

In Swift's own words , "My Tears Ricochet" was inspired by the image of an "embittered tormentor showing up at the funeral of his fallen object of obsession."

"Marjorie"

pink tour openers 2023

"Marjorie" is named after Swift's late grandmother, Marjorie Finlay , an opera singer who died in 2003. Finlay is credited with background vocals in the song.

"Willow"

pink tour openers 2023

"Willow" was promoted as the lead single from " Evermore ." Like "Cardigan," it was released simultaneously with its parent album and debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100.

"Style"

pink tour openers 2023

Swift briefly dated Harry Styles before releasing her fifth studio album, "1989."

When Rolling Stone asked about the inspiration behind the album's third track, "Style," she replied, "We should have just called it 'I'm Not Even Sorry.'"

"Blank Space"

pink tour openers 2023

"Blank Space" is a widely celebrated satire about Swift's reputation as a "serial dater."

"'She only writes songs to get emotional revenge on guys. She's a man-hater. Don't let her near your boyfriend,'" Swift explained at the time. "It was just kind of excessive and, you know, at first it was hurtful and then I kind of found a little comedy in it."

The song dethroned "Shake It Off" at No. 1 on the Hot 100, making Swift the first and only woman in history to replace herself in the chart's top spot. (She has since done it twice.)

"Shake It Off"

pink tour openers 2023

"Shake It Off" was released as the lead single from "1989," Swift's official pivot from country to pop music .

The song became her first to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and remained there for four weeks. It also inspired a sketch on "Saturday Night Live"  about adults realizing they love Swift's music.

"Wildest Dreams"

pink tour openers 2023

"Wildest Dreams" was released as the first rerecorded song from "1989 (Taylor's Version)."

"Bad Blood"

pink tour openers 2023

"Bad Blood" was famously inspired by Swift's then-feud with Katy Perry , whom Swift accused of trying to "sabotage" her "Red" tour. (The two pop stars have long since buried the hatchet .)

The remix includes a feature from Kendrick Lamar , who returned to rerecord his verse for "1989 (Taylor's Version)."

"But Daddy I Love Him"

pink tour openers 2023

Following the release of her massive double album , "The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology," Swift added seven brand-new songs to The Eras Tour setlist.

The first is "But Daddy I Love Him," a sharp rebuke of Swift's own fans , many of whom criticized her dating life last year.

"So High School"

pink tour openers 2023

"So High School" is widely presumed to be about Swift's current boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce . The song's lyrics seem to reference their different professions: "You know how to ball, I know Aristotle."

"Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?"

pink tour openers 2023

Swift is the only songwriter credited for "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?"

The song title is likely inspired by "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" — a celebrated play written by Edward Albee that tackles themes of truth versus illusion, fate versus choice, and feeling trapped.

"Down Bad"

pink tour openers 2023

"Down Bad" is a heartsick serenade that compares falling in love to being abducted by aliens.

"Fortnight"

pink tour openers 2023

"Fortnight" was promoted as the lead single from "The Tortured Poets Department," alongside a music video that costars Post Malone and references "Dead Poets Society."

"The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived"

pink tour openers 2023

"The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" is a scathing breakup song that may have been inspired by Matty Healy , whom Swift dated while writing "The Tortured Poets Department." According to reports, their relationship lasted about one month .

"I Can Do It With a Broken Heart"

pink tour openers 2023

In a meta twist, "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" was apparently inspired by The Eras Tour itself. The lyrics seem to reference a string of concerts last year, when Swift felt "miserable" but continued to perform as usual ("They said, 'Babe, you gotta fake it 'til you make it,' and I did").

Surprise Song No. 1

pink tour openers 2023

During each show on The Eras Tour, Swift performs a two-song acoustic set that changes every night . The first song is always played on acoustic guitar.

The first-ever surprise song Swift played in Arizona was "Mirrorball." For the first stop on the European leg, she chose the "Midnights" bonus cut "Paris."

Surprise Song No. 2

pink tour openers 2023

The second surprise song of the evening is always played on the piano.

In Arizona, Swift's first-ever surprise song on piano was "Tim McGraw," the lead single from her 2006 debut album. For night one in France, Swift played the "Tortured Poets" heartbreaker "Loml."

"Lavender Haze"

pink tour openers 2023

"Lavender Haze" is the opening track on Swift's 10th studio album " Midnights ."

"Anti-Hero"

pink tour openers 2023

"Anti-Hero" was promoted as the lead single from "Midnights." It debuted at No. 1 and became Swift's biggest hit to date, reigning atop the chart for eight weeks.

The same week that "Anti-Hero" arrived in the top spot, Swift became the first and only artist in history to  occupy the entire top 10 on the Hot 100 .

"Midnight Rain"

pink tour openers 2023

"Midnight Rain" doubles as a breakup song and an ode to Swift's own ambitions: "He wanted it comfortable, I wanted that pain / He wanted a bride, I was making my own name," she sings, calling back to the rejection of '50s gender roles in "Lavender Haze."

"Vigilante Shit"

pink tour openers 2023

Put simply, "Vigilante Shit" is about getting revenge. Many fans believe the song was inspired by Scooter Braun , who purchased Swift's back catalog in 2019. Less than two years later, he sold Swift's master recordings to a private equity company .

"Bejeweled"

pink tour openers 2023

The music video for "Bejeweled"  includes a variety of celebrity cameos, including Laura Dern, the Haim sisters, and Dita Von Teese.

"Mastermind"

pink tour openers 2023

In the chorus of "Mastermind," Swift seems to serenade her longtime fans: "What if I told you I'm a mastermind? / And now you're mine."

The song also references Swift's penchant for Easter eggs and her keen business acumen, which has allowed her to build a billion-dollar empire .

"I'm sick of women not being able to say that they have strategic business minds — because male artists are allowed to," Swift told Rolling Stone in 2019. "And so I'm sick and tired of having to pretend like I don't mastermind my own business."

"Karma"

pink tour openers 2023

Swift closes the elaborate show with "Karma," a song that mocks her enemies and salutes her own longevity: "Ask me what I learned from all those years / Ask me what I earned from all those tears / Ask me why so many fade, but I'm still here."

Beyoncé dances with giant robot arms on opening night of Renaissance World Tour

May 10, 2023 / 8:44 PM EDT / CBS News

Beyoncé kicked off her 57-date Renaissance World Tour in Stockholm, Sweden, on Wednesday with futuristic panache.

The set design on the opening night of the global superstar's second all-stadium solo tour appeared to be her most ambitious to date. Videos posted on social media showed pyrotechnics, disco balls, giant moving robots , and even a shiny, metallic tank that Beyoncé rode while singing.

The tour is in support of Beyoncé's seventh solo studio album, "Renaissance. It is her first solo tour in nearly seven years. The Formation World Tour in 2016 supported her album "Lemonade."

Beyoncé sang all 16 songs from "Renaissance" at the tour's opening show, marking the first time she'd performed any of them live. Several older songs from her expansive catalog made their live debuts as well, including the Grammy-winning "Black Parade," "Lift Off" and "Savage Remix," her number-one hit with Megan Thee Stallion.

Beyoncé started the show with four straight ballads, including her 2003 "Dangerously In Love 2," an unconventional move by a singer known to open her concerts with fast-paced smash hits like "Crazy In Love," "Run the World (Girls)," and "Formation."

Beyoncé performs onstage during the opening night of the Renaissance World Tour at Friends Arena on May 10, 2023 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Beyoncé then launched into songs from "Renaissance," with performances replete with a futuristic set design — including those robotic arms — and queer, Black and trans-inspired choreography that evoked the themes and tenor of her latest acclaimed album.

Dancing energetically alongside a legion of backup dancers wearing blonde wigs and glitzy silver leotards, the 41-year-old mother of three sang (and rapped) with the power and pristineness that's put her in a distinct category of pop performers. Her athleticism doesn't seem to have waned since her astonishingly aerobic headlining sets at Coachella in 2018.

The performers' outfits were as outlandish and ultramodernist as the show's set design, ranging from a gold bodysuit inspired by Loewe's Fall 2022 collection to a giant bee costume — a sartorial embrace of her designation as "Queen Bey." Another outfit appeared to be transformed by UV light while she was wearing it.

Beyoncé ended the show with a performance of the album's final track, "Summer Renaissance," while perched atop a gleaming, crystalline horse — evoking the "Renaissance" album cover — and later being hoisted above the crowd  amid a cloud of glittery confetti.

Wednesday marked just the second live performance for Beyonce in nearly three years. Before her January show at the opening of Atlantis The Royal hotel in Dubai, Beyoncé hadn't performed in front of a live audience since she sang at Kobe Bryant's memorial in February 2020. She co-headlined her last world tour with her husband, Jay-Z, in 2018.

Forbes on Monday predicted the Renaissance World Tour could earn nearly $2.1 billion — $500 million more than Taylor Swift's "Eras" world tour is expected to make and more than the revenue from all of Beyoncé's previous concerts combined.

Beyoncé has announced that she will provide support for students and entrepreneurs throughout the Renaissance World Tour by giving out a total of $2 million through her BeyGOOD Foundation . The foundation's BeyGOOD initiative, founded in 2013, has undertaken various philanthropic endeavors in the U.S. and worldwide, including providing aid to communities affected by natural disasters, promoting education and supporting programs that address issues such as housing scarcity and mental health. It has also provided grants to small, Black-owned businesses — a focus since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
