Scénografie:

James Kirk se narodil v den, kdy byla napadena hvězdná loď jeho otce. Od té doby vyrůstal jako poloviční sirotek, nebyl zrovna vzorné dítě, ale přesto se dostal ke hvězdné flotile. Jako kadet se ocitá na palubě U.S.S. Enterprise pod velením kapitána Pikea. Potkává zde prvního důstojníka Spocka, který je mu na první pohled nesympatický, a jejich antipatie jsou vzájemné. Enterprise přijímá tísňové volání z planety Vulcan a vyjždí na pomoc, ačkoliv posádku tvoří kadeti. Jsou totiž nejblíže. Kirk si ale uvědomí, že okolnosti jsou stejné, jako ten den, kdy zmizel jeho otec, letí do pasti. Opravdu, u Vulcanu na ně čeká ničivá loď pod velením romulana Nera. Nero chce, aby důstojník Spock trpěl, jenže Spock toho muže vidí poprvé v životě. Ukáže se, že Nero je z budoucnosti, kde byl svědkem zničení své planety, svého domova. Viní z toho Spocka, který slíbil, že planetu zachrání. Cestoval proto do minulosti a chce, aby mladý Spock trpěl stejně, jako trpěl on. Chce zničit jeho planetu, jeho domov, jeho rodinu. Bohužel se mu jeho dílo zkázy podaří a Vulcan přestane existovat. Další na řadě je Země. Mladá posádka se musí hrozbě postavit. Snad se při tom z Kirka a Spocka stanou dobří přátelé, tak, jako tomu bylo v jiné časové linii. (TV Prima)

Těsný maximální warp. Abramse zpomaluje jen občasný odskok k mladší generaci (mimozemský hobit, legrační scéna s potrubím), který nabourává přísnou vulkánskou logiku. Emocí je ve filmu zatraceně hodně, v prvních dvaceti minutách by to člověk snad musel přebírat lopatou. Když se prach z rozstřílených planet usadí, Abrams nerušeně vklouzne do futuretro pocty originálu a zvládne ho napodobit i s jeho chybičkami (ty mírně absurdní zápletky jsou ale i po letech roztomilé). Nová posádka šlape jako hodinky, tempo je závratné, výbuchy největší a film se i při hláškovacích rozstřelech mezi Kirkem a Nerem (mohlo jich být pravda víc) tváří... sofistikovaně. Ne dost na to, aby to ukojilo hardcore trekkies, ale od běžných pozemšťanů, kteří jdou do kina pro trochu toho testosteronu, rozptýleného v zábavném a tak akorát dlouhém sci-fi koktejlu, dostává Abrams jedničku. Teď se jen příliš nemotat v kruhu a nakopnout Enterprise tam, kam Hollywood nevkročil. Nebo raději vkročil, protože to vylepšené opisování s dostatečnou přidanou hodnotou jde Abramsovi i scenáristům dokonale. ( 22.04.2009 )

„Sme tu na teba štyria.“ – „Tak si priveď ešte pár ďalších debilov a bude to vyrovnané.“ Scéna, v ktorej rad za radom na mostíku Enterprise preberie velenie snáď každý okrem upratovačky (ale aj tá tam určite niekde je), asi najlepšie ukazuje, v čom je sila J.J. Abramsa. Nech robí akýkoľvek žáner, nachádza v postavách slabosti, ktoré si zamilujeme a v počítačových trikoch dojímavé ľudské sekundy. Už úvodný pôrod je vynikajúcim mixom najmodernejších efektov s „obyčajným" kvalitným hraním dobrých hercov. Ja osobne síce viem, kto je Čechov, čo je Hlboký vesmír 9 , čo sa rozumie pod pojmom „prvý kontakt“ a viem si približne predstaviť, aké šialenosti sa začnú diať, ak chladnokrvnému pánovi Spockovi prasknú nervy. Ale to je asi tak všetko, za žiadneho extra fanúšika sa nepokladám. Napriek tomu sa mi prequel páčil. Vlastne som si ho zamiloval. Pripadalo mi to, ako keby niekto nakrútil akčný triler s 20-ročným Štúrom, Samo Chalupka by držal rotačný guľomet, vzadu by ich brokovnicou kryl Janko Kráľ a nad nimi nadsvetelným tryskáčom lietal Hodža. Nie je to dokonalé, možno je to trocha dlhé, Eric Bana je skutočne slabý záporák, jeho loď je zvnútra hnusná a scéna vysvetľovania časovej linky mi nedala zmysel ani na druhý raz. Ale akonáhle sa Star Trek rozletí plnou silou, už ho len tak niečo nedobehne. A on sa rozletí často. ( 07.07.2010 )

Nepřítel přichází z budoucnosti.…. Vesmír jsou nemoci a nebezpečí obalené temnotou a tichem. Také kosmické lodě, raketoplány, ale i boj muže proti muži s využitím nejmodernějších zbraní. A i když seriál prošel kolem mě v tichosti, těším se na další dobrodružství posádky Enterprise pod velením J.J.Abramse. Manévrovací prostor zdá se být nekonečný! PŘÍBĚH ***** HUMOR ** AKCE *** NAPĚTÍ *** Co uvidíme (možná) příště? Vesmír. Nejzazší hranice. Toto jsou cesty hvězdné lodi ENTERPRISE. Jejich úkolem je zkoumat nové světy. Hledat nové formy života a nové civilizace a odvážně se pouštět tam, kam se dosud nikdo nevydal…. ( 10.10.2009 )

OBSAHUJE SPOILERY. Nejsem nijak proti novému přístupu k Startrekovskému univerzu, leč ne vše nové je zároveň dobré. Pokud postavy dýchající emocemi znamenají sestup někam k Beverly Hills či Škole zlomených srdcí, není důvod vřískat nadšením. Uhura: "They have destroyed your poor home, you must feel so much alone. Your fate has turned a bit thorny, nonetheless, it made me horny. My poor, yet strong mister Spock, I want to suck your big cock!" Takhle já si chlapíky od poloarmádní organizace, která vyžaduje disciplínu nepředstavuji, ale asi jsem hloupý. Co je to koneckonců za armádu/flotilu, že si první důstojníci s sebou vozí na riziková pracoviště těhotné manželky, nechávájí je rodit během pár minut (medicína zjevně pokročila) a při tom vznešeně, dojemně a vlastně telenovelovitě umírají (otec Kirka). Rovněž spojování známých tváří posádky Enterprise (s výjimkou Sulua a Čechova), působí vykonstruovaně a je zjevně motivováno nízkou snahou svézt se na dětinském očekávání: "A kdy už se objeví Spock? A kdy Uhura? Kostra? Scotty? Sulu? A kdy bude z Kirka kapitán? A kdy se se Spockem zkámoší?" Od počátku je jasné, že tohle se stát musí, Abrams i divák si mohou odškrtávat, super. I já jsem trochu podlehl těmto touhám, jenže jsem nedosáhl orgazmu. Přitom se spousta věcí zdařila - od samotné zápletky, přes šokující momenty (cože, zničili Vulkán?!), efektní bitvy lodí i lidí, po třebas práci designérů... Nebyl jsem tedy vlastně úplně zklamán. Dragoni  

Výborná Space Action, plná zajímavých herců a záběrů. Díky propracovanému scénaři, efektů, které nejsou nijak přehnané a akčním scénám se jedná o výborné Akční - Sci-fi. Občas mi přišlo, že filmu chybý jaký si nádech(jiskra) i když napětí bylo dost. Již od začátku je nastíněná cesta hlavních hrdinů od útlého věku a tak si přijde na své i absolutní neznalec Star Treku. Zajímavá zápletka v časoprostoru a Warp na plný výkon, takový je nový Star Trek. 85 % ( 11.01.2010 )

Prep Begins For ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Season 3 Finale; Cast And Directors Share BTS Images

Work on the third season of  Star Trek: Strange New Worlds  continues to move swiftly in Toronto and looks to be set to wrap up next month. We have some fun bits from the set shared by the cast and a couple of directors, as well as some details on the production.

First up, a selfie from director Jordan Canning, who previously directed the season 2 episode “Charades.” The image posted earlier this week shows the director with Ethan Peck and Rebecca Romijn and has the message, “Always happy to be the redshirt between these two.”

TrekMovie has confirmed that Canning directed episode 8, which has wrapped. Filming for episode 9 has already begun, with Andrew Coutts directing. This will be the directorial debut for Coutts, a co-producer and editor on the show. The 10th and final episode of the season will be directed by Maja Vrvilo, a Paramount+ Trek veteran who has directed episodes of Discovery , Picard , and Strange New Worlds . Earlier this week, she posted an image of her office door, indicated prep work for her episode had already begun.

Anson has a challenge for cosplayers

There have also been a couple of fun recent social media updates from the cast. First up, Anson Mount posted on Twitter/X that season 3 will require cosplayers to bring their “A-game” as he shared some creative fan costumes.

Finally, on the day of the big eclipse, some of the Strange New Worlds team took a moment to check it out. Bush shared an Instagram story with herself and co-star Melissa Navia rocking their eclipse glasses. (They had 90% totality in Toronto.)

Last week brought big news for Strange New Worlds: It’s been renewed for a fourth season. Paramount+ recently confirmed season 3 will debut in 2025.

I LOVE holodeck dude in cosplay!

I’m curious how long their entire season shooting period actually is.

Usually 5 to 6 months. This one started just before Christmas.

I know I’ll end up watching it, but I’m just not excited for the next season. Season 2 was all over the place, in my opinion. For every episode like Those Old Scientists or Ad Astra Per Aspera, there was rubbish like The Broken Circle and Under the Cloak of War and Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. I like the cast, but the quality isn’t there- and for all the talk of “big swings” and pushing the envelope- Season 2 was almost painfully generic.

Same here. I’ll be tuning in, but it’s not up there on my ‘must-see right away’ list. I feel like overall, the storytelling floundered during S2, legacy characters written badly, and a distinct corny popcorn feel to it. Both Spock and Pike were reduced to bumbling sidekicks. Hoping S3 has a bit more gravitas to it. Like you said, not the fault of the cast. All blame goes back to the writer’s room. I’m more than happy to consider this show as existing in its own separate timeline, as has been confirmed.

I’m absolutely giddy for this next season. Season two was fantastic and I cannot wait for this next season.

Michael Dorn Wanted Worf To Kill Quark In Star Trek: Picard, Says Armin Shimerman

Captain Worf (Michael Dorn) killed the Ferengi named Sneed (Aaron Stanford) in Star Trek: Picard season 3, but Armin Shimerman says it was Quark who Dorn wanted to kill instead. Dorn and Shimerman starred together in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine seasons 4-7. Although the Klingon warrior never liked the Ferengi bartender, in real life, Michael is good friends with Armin and his wife, Kitty Swink - which is why Dorn's request for Worf to murder Quark caught Shimerman off guard.

Appearing on TrekMovie 's All Access Star Trek podcast to promote Trek Against Pancreatic Cancer 's fundraising and walk at PanCAN PurpleStride, Armin Shimerman, Kitty Swink, and Jonathan Frakes (joined by Juan Carlos Coto), Kitty asked Armin to recount the story of Michael Dorn requesting Worf kill Quark in Star Trek: Picard season 3. Armin Shimerman: Dorn called me up and said, Im doing an episode of Picard where I kill off a Ferengi. Wouldnt it be great if it were you? I said no, it would not be great. I told him just to forget about that idea altogether. Kitty Swink: I gotta say, for all the times Ive baked bread for Michael Dorn, that was really a sh****y thing for him to say. (laughs) Jonathan Frakes: Im not sure he knew he was gonna cut his head off. Armin Shimerman: He knew that, he knew that. Because thats what he said to me. Jonathan Frakes: But that Ferengi was based on on your Ferengi, and the tightrope you walked, all levity aside, to represent what Roddenberry thought was this despicable capitalist pig with huge ears, and yet be humorous, smart, charming, clever all the qualities that Quark had and still be essentially a villain, and do it through rubber It takes a special actor, which you are.

Star Trek Picard Season 3 Ending Explained (In Detail)

What is trek against pancreatic cancer, star trek is fighting against this deadly disease.

Jonathan Frakes, Armin Shimerman, Kitty Swink, John Billingsley, and Juan Carlos Coto formed a team called Trek Against Pancreatic Cancer to raise funds and awareness toward fighting the deadly diseas e. Frakes lost his brother to pancreatic cancer, as did Juan Carlos Coto, whose brother was Star Trek: Enterprise showrunner Manny Coto . Billingsley's mother died from the disease, while Shimerman's wife, Kitty Swink, is a 19-year survivor.

Star Trek continues to show its commitment to helping others.

Star Trek: Picard představuje Sira Patricka Stewarta , který si zopakuje svou ikonickou roli Jeana-Luca Picarda, kterou hrál sedm řad v seriálu Star Trek: Nová generace . Nový seriál bude následovat tuto ikonickou postavu do další kapitoly jeho života. ( Prime Video )

Hodne slaby pokus o Fan Service. Se Star Trekem a Roddenberryho ideou to nema vubec nic spolecneho. Kdo nezna a nevyrostl na TNG, DS9 apod. tak u toho muze jeste vypnout a pobavit se ale pro fanousky ST je to utrpeni. Divim se Stewardovi ze do toho sel, hraje tam karikaturu sebe sama. Edit: Tyvole druha serie jeste o dost vetsi velky spatny. scenar zrejme psala parta simpanzu ( 31.12.2020 )

Máme tu konec(?) nuže...bilancujme. 1.série -  po zhuleném a slepém ST experimentu jm. DSC: projímadlo, byla zvědavost a těšení vskutku velké. Dyk je to přece TEN Pikrd, no ne? Já paradoxně raději Xaviera. A navíc, je 1.s. trapně okopčený  Blade Runner, což je fakt úlet. Ovšem po prvních 2 dílech (což se stane přesně i ve 2.s., že by náhoda?) přišlo od 3.dílu dál (navzdory 7 z devíti) postupné rozčarování, následováno blazeovanou nudou a absolutním nezájmem o to co, kdo, kdy, kde a proč. Proto došlo k přeskočení na posl. díl a o více jak rok později na zpětné doplnění celé série, díly 5-9. Které by se ze zpětného pohledu nedalo zvládnouti bez pomocí sexy Romulanské ségry hl.(?) padoucha a občas té 7dmé+ Romulanský dravec z TOS, později použit v 1.s. SNW. Celkem zbytečnost, která vyplodila seschlou černou lesboidku Raffi, za což tvůrcům velmi ´´děkuji´´ a neodbytný pocit, že Stewart každou chvíli vypustí poslední vzdech. 2.série -  jde v podstatě jen o zbytečně a naprosto pitomě natažený TNG 2díl, ze kterého jsou (jak jsem již zmínil) dobré první 2 a posl. díl. Plusy, parádní U.S.S. Stargazer, nová Borgská loď a hodně sympatický kpt. Rios, jehož představitel velkou měrou zachraňoval aspoň zákl. koukatelnost celé série, která byla sledována poctivě a postupně. Zde jsem nic nepřeskakoval. V závěsu s Orlou Bradyovou a její 2.roli ´´Dohlížitelka´´ (zdravím Garyho Sevena) Tallinn a samoz. trošililinku toho Q. Mínusy: zde už vysoce otravná s.č.l. Raffi a asi po1. Spiner jako další z nekonečné řady dr.Soongů. Ten mě fakt až sr.. a svému protějšku z STE dělal jen ostudu. Nejtrapnější Spinerův výkon vůbec. A ta snad největší a nejtrapnější kokotina vůbec, zbavení se postavy Riose. Už od pol. jsem měl ale tušáka, že k tomuto dojde, takže zase takový šhock to zase nebyl. Kdyby se zbavili konečně aspoň té krávy co násilně přilepili k 7dmé a která neslouží v tomto tv s. naprosto žádnému účelu krom splnění několika kvót naráz. 3.série -  již od 1.dílu to působí na unaveného diváka z 1. a 2.s. jako hotové zjevení. Včetně znělky. Nekazí to nějak výrazně ani další zbytečná (a z dlouhé řady zbytečných postav 1 z nejdivnější hereček za posl. 30 let) postava Vadíc/Nevadíc. Aspoň že měla efektivně efektní loď a 1 nezpomenutelnou hlášku aka posl. větu ,,Fucking solids´´.  Ano, zde se mluví sprostě. A ne jednou. Další poněkud nechutný vklad ST 21.st. Nový Titan-A (v posl. díle přequapivě překřtěn na Enterprise-G...fakt jsem čekal, že to bude U.S.S.Picard a 7dmé to hodně přeji, krom té s.č.l. Raffi, které se autoři očividně nechtějí zbaviti :-/ díky za toho konečně pravého Tuvoka). Celá stará (zde doslova) TNG parta a to včetně navrátivšího se Data, na což jsem si kupodivu zvykl docela rychle, až mě to přequapillo. Vyjmenovávání všech těch ST lahůdek by bylo na dlouho, tak se omezím na otázku, že na něco takového jsem musel čekati sakra 3 roky??? Tohle mělo býti jako 1.s. do háje. Samoz., že i tato série má své nešvary a já se nedivím všem těm pliválistům co ani na této sezoně nenechávají nit suchou, byť jsou někdy dle mého až zbytečně tvrdí. Dostal jsem zde ale konečně to (aspoň z 90%) na co jsem čekal už od 1.s. a jsa vybaven školou Lower Decks a Prodigy (bez kterých bych 2.s. nezvládl, dle naprosto nemastného/neslaného tr. po kterém jsem byl přesvědčen, že na toto koukati nebudu) včetně mých milovaných SNW, nemám problém v klidu přijmouti to, co os. dělá šťávy a vylévají si to pak na diskusích. Já si říkám 1000x raději 3.s. STPikrd než cokoli (krom asi dohr. 3 dílů) z DSC. Asi tak. Posl. 15min. 10.dílu je u mě ST tak nejblíže, jak to jen v Kurtzman éře snad jde. Asi je to jen laciný fanservis (oblíbený to čsfd výraz) a tak...nevím, ale mě je to zatím fuk. Když dostanu to, co jsem chtěl už od 1.s., a většina dílů (považuji 1.pol. za silnější než druhou, krom posl. dílu, samoz.) je koukatelná více jak 1 což je u Pikrda docela nezvyklé, nemám už moc co řešiti. Zřejmě jsem zlenivěl a stačí mi ´´málo´´ jak by zde pár jedinců pravděpodobně prohlásilo, ale jak jsem již napsal výše. Beru to tak, že buď líbí nebo nelíbí. Určitě si ji nechám a pochybuji v budoucnu, že bych toho nějak extra litoval. Doporučuje 1 ze 100 unavených ST veteránů. Special quest stars Ro-Laren (byť mám výhrady k jejímu konci, který měli udělati už v TNG a ne až teď, když už ho nechci a nepovažuji ho za vhodný či žádoucí) Q, Měňavci, Borg ové (Borgská quálovna utekla zřejmě z Dead Space :) Jack Crusher jr. Enterprise-D a adm. Shelby ová na Enterprise-F,  ze které museli fandové STO slintati blahem, což je naprosto pochopitelné páč vypadá a vždy vypadala totálně kůůůl. Občas to má světlé momenty a hlavně ze začátku to skrz nostalgii udržuje v divákovi naději na záblesk toho čím kdysi Star Trek byl.. Ale po pár dílech se ukazuje, že tady je to více špatně než dobře a postupem času se z toho stává cosi co ruku v ruce s Discovery možná nadobro odkaz ST ničí (nebo minimálně poškozuje). Chudák P.Stewart už je asi kapku senilní a není schopnej rozpoznat, že šlápnul do hovna. ( 10.07.2022 )

Bála jsem se, že z dalšího spinnu mé srdcovky budu zase smutná. Díky mému nejoblíbenějšímu kapitánovi se tak nestalo. ,,Vpřed!... Á, promiňte, vy jste tu kapitán..." ,,To jsem - vpřed!" 2. série mne zklamala. Děj těch deseti dílů by se vešel do dvou, maximálně tří epizod původního seriálu, ostatní jsou samé tlachy, prodlužované nad míru únosnosti (alespoň moje trpělivost úpěla). Ubírám hvězdu. Příjemně nostalgické, přitom svěží a hodno jednadvacátého století, resp. roku 2020. Picard je už starý páprda, má to své mouchy, rozhodování postav občas skřípne, ale jako celek to funguje naprosto perfektně. Příběh od prvního k poslednímu dílu skvěle graduje, celou dobu jsem měl pocit účasti ve velkém sci-fi RPG, kde vás od spokojeného důchodu a pěstování vína vytrhne hledání ztracené dívky, kvůli které vyrazíte opět na cestu vesmírem, potkáte nové i staré známé a možná doje i na oblíbené zachraňování galaxie. Star Trek's Biggest Badass Reveals His Starship's Secret Name

From The Dark Knight to Discovery , David Ajala is a man of action.

David Ajala’s journey in the Final Frontier is coming to a close. Although Ajala only joined the cast of Star Trek: Discovery in 2020, at the start of Season 3 , it certainly feels like his rugged space courier with a heart of gold — Cleveland “Book” Booker — has been on in the series longer than he really has. As Book, Ajala brought some Indiana Jones swagger to Discovery , albeit with a touch of Gene Roddenberry idealism .

The fifth episode of Discovery’s final season puts Book and Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) into a perilous and very familiar setting, one which connects back to The Original Series, Deep Space Nine , Discovery’s second season, and even Strange New Worlds.

Inverse caught up with Ajala — best known for his roles in The Dark Knight and Supergirl — to get his take on where he’s been, how Star Trek has “blessed” his life, and which franchise he wants to jump to next.

Spoilers ahead for Star Trek: Discovery Episode 5, “Mirrors.”

Book and Burnham fly a shuttle in a new daring mission to...the Enterprise !

While in pursuit of the latest clue to unravel the secret of the Progenitor tech , “Mirrors” leads Captain Burnham and Book into a wormhole where they find the ISS Enterprise NCC-1701, the wicked Mirror Universe version of the classic 23rd century Enterprise from The Original Series and Strange New Worlds. (ISS stands for “Imperial Star Ship.” Whereas USS means “United Star Ship.”) This evil Enterprise first appeared in the 1967 TOS episode “Mirror, Mirror.” But, for the sake of current visual continuity, it’s now clearly a redress of the USS Enterprise set from Strange New Worlds.

“We wrapped shooting before [ Strange New Worlds ] started to commence their next season,” Ajala reveals. “So, sadly, the crossover didn’t happen.” But, Ajala notes that being in the physical sets of the Enterprise sickbay and bridge was a refreshing change from some of his other work in Discovery .

“There is a lot of green screen usually, and you have to tap into your childhood imagination. You’re playing cowboys,” Ajala explains. “But, there was something very, very special about shooting that scene that made it a lot easier for me to act. Part of it was what Sonequa [Martin-Green] was doing. How she held the space in such reverence, how she really channeled into the memory of her brother [Spock]. It was really wonderfully special and the fans are just going to love it.”

When Ajala joined Discovery as Book in 2020, he was probably best known to genre fans for his role as a bounty hunter working for the Joker (Heath Ledger) in The Dark Knight . But, he’s equally recognizable as Manchester Black from CW’s Supergirl . Then again, he was also one of the “Smilers” named Peter in the 2010 Doctor Who episode “The Beast Below.” From Star Trek, and the DCEU to the Whoniverse, that’s a lot of sci-fi geek cred for one man. And now, that Discovery is winding down, Ajala doesn’t mind looking back on his pre-Star Trek work with fondness, and even, a hypothetical part of his future.

“There was once upon a time, a possibility. There was a very strong invitation to go back into one of those worlds,” Ajala says cryptically. Does this mean he was almost in the multiverse shenanigans of The Flash ? Another CW Arrowverse show? Even a later episode of Doctor Who ? Ajala can’t say outright, so we’re just guessing. But it seems like it almost happened and could happen again. “The timing didn’t work out,” he says. “If and when that opportunity does present itself, I would gladly take that invitation again.”

Ajala is also open to the idea of tackling franchises he’s never been a part of before. And because he was born in London, his accent does make some wonder if he could be the phantom menace of future James Bond contenders .

“That is a vicious rumor!” Ajala says with a laugh. “But it’s also a massive compliment. In all honesty, it’s a wonderful thought to even entertain the idea of [playing Bond]. My main thing is to always pursue roles that excite me, that turn me on, and that challenge me. Stranger things have happened.”

It’s not hard to see why some folks might think of David Ajala as James Bond material in the 2020s. When he debuted in Discovery Season 3, as Book, he was a space pirate with a heart of gold, a guy whom we believed was poaching alien animals, but, in reality, he’s an empath, bringing space creatures to better homes. But, Book’s also a badass, who had, for two seasons, his own Star Trek version of the Millennium Falcon. Sadly, Book’s sleek scout ship — complete with its morphing tech — was destroyed in Season 4. So, pour one out for... wait. What was Book’s ship called anyway?

“It was called Electric Chocolate ,” Ajala reveals with a grin. “Not many people know that, but I’ll share it with you.” Hopefully, the Star Trek fan wiki, Memory Alpha is paying attention, since, prior to this Book’s ship is referred to, off-screen, as either “the Nautilus” or “Vessel - C.” And, let’s face it, Electric Chocolate sounds way better.

Still, with or without his cool ship, Book’s story in Star Trek: Discovery will end this year. But, David Ajala’s journey with Star Trek will likely never be over. Recently, he was a part of the 2024 Star Trek Cruise, where he says he was thrilled to connect with Trek actors from the other series. “I got to hang with Michelle Hurd, Anthony Montgomery, and Todd Stashwick ! It was incredible.”

Ajala also says that he will continue to do Star Trek conventions for as long as he can, but that he will probably only select about “three conventions” a year. His reasoning for doing fewer is simply because he wants to be present for the fans when he is there.

“I'd probably choose three a year, but when I'm there, I'm fully there with very healthy energy,” Ajala says. “I think it's just been deeply humbling and special. We're not superheroes. We’re real people. So, I want to be really, really be there, when I’m there. I want to sign however many autographs I need to sign and give as many hugs as I need to.”

Negativní reakce na první Star Trek Film nejsou fér. Je totiž narozdíl od svých následovníků i předchůdců dost výjimečný svým vyzněním a nabízí konečně také jakýsi myšlenkový přesah, který by měl být vlastní každé pořádné science fiction a já se skoro nebráním přirovnání prvního Star Treku k Vesmírné odysee, i když po ní pokukává jen po očku. Je tu výborná pointa, kterou jsem sice frajersky odhadnul už dávno před odhalením, ale i tak zapůsobí. Navíc je tu první zjevení jednoho z nejlepších hudebních témat filmové historie. Pokud bych bral hudební souboj mezi celým Star Trekem a Star Wars, tak to sice Jerry před Johnem jasně prohraje, ale hlavní téma má Star Trek podle mě lepší. ( 16.06.2007 )

Moc Pěkné. Nečekal sem příliš, ale dostalo se mi filmu, jehož bych s klidným svědomím přirovnal k Vesmírné Odyssey. S tou má společné především dlouhé, nedějové pasáže, kdy něco Letí... a letí.. a letí.. a divák, navzdory době vzinku filmu nestačí valit oči. Příběh taktéž není špatný, jen sem tam se objeví poněkud prkennější replika, problém mám ovšem s některými herci. Jinak myslím, že jako základ filmového kultu jménem Star Trek (ten seriálovej je zcela mimo diskuzi) obstál tento film na výbornou. P.S. Goldsmithův hudební motiv u mě okamžitě po jeho zaslechnutí překonal Williamsův z Hvězdých Válek! ( 18.07.2006 )

Star Trek: Film jsem viděl jako malý při jeho české televizní premiéře, což už je pěkně dávno - české startrekovské stránky uvádějí, že to bylo 27.9.1994, tehdy mi nebylo ani devět. Nyní, v rámci slavnostního opakování všech ST filmů u příležitosti oslav filmu v pořadí jedenáctého, si je postupně dávám znovu. A je to docela krušné. Především je to jedna velká vykrádačka v době premiéry něco přes deset let staré 2001: Vesmírné odysey, jak už tady kdosi poznamenal. Zadruhé je to především cílené na trekkieho, protože jen ten si plně užije vizuální zobrazení toho, co si musel v době seriálu pouze představovat. Proto ty oblety Enderprise, proto trvá deset minut, než se Kirk vůbec dostane na palubu. Proto tam lítají všechny ty prťavoučké raketoplány a jiní pidižvíci (rozuměj lidi ve skafandru). Navíc se v prvních deseti minutách mluví klingonsky a JEŠTĚ vulkánsky. No to by zhruba byla pozitiva - ještě jsem zapomněl na úvodní záběr, ve které přilétají tři klingonské lodě a kamera se nad nimi obrací. Trvá další půlhodinu, než Enterprise vůbec odstartuje, tato půlhodina je naplněná dementním Kirkovým chováním (kterého se téměř do konce filmu nezbaví) a konflikty s odporným blonďákem, u kterého jsem byl rád, že nakonec zmizel. Průlet červí dírou sice ukazuje primitivnost počítačových efektů z roku 1979, ale v konečném důsledku nevypadají tak špatně (nepodílela se na nich ILM, jak by někdo mohl předpokládat, ale firma Apogee, která v pozdějších letech tvořila i počítačové hry). Pak se konečně objevuje Spock, jehož pohyby obočí jsou tím nejcharakternějším herectvím, kterého se vám tady dostane. A pak těžká nuda, zpestřená vyražením dvěří z nemocnice. Spock ukradne skafandr a po vzoru Davida Bowmana letí vstříc barevným vzorcům pouštěným na jeho helmu. Film začíná být opravdu zajímavý v momentě, kdy V'ger doletí k Zemi a Kirk už začne konečně jednat jako správný kapitán a vezme konečně situaci do svých rukou, aby zjistil, co se vlastně skrývá uprostřed té obrovské věci (ta musela udělat ve Sluneční soustavě pěkný bordel, řekl bych) a ten otravný blonďák konečně zmizí a dočkáme se zrodu dalšího Hvězdného dítěte... skoro. Kromě toho bych se rád pozastavil nad naprosto příšernými kostýmy - tak odporné uniformy neměli ani v tom úplně nejprvnějším pilotu (Klec je úžasná, mimochodem). Zábavné je také označení Isaaca Asimova jako speciálního vědeckého poradce, to by mě zajímalo, co tam dělal:-) ( 16.05.2006 )

Přibližně do poloviny je první celovečerní Star Trek vcelku nezajímavá konverzačka, která těží hlavně ze svého seriálového univerza, a se začleňováním neznalého diváka se moc nezatěžuje. Vše je vesměs podřízeno ortodoxním fanouškům, jak v rovině dialogové, tak i strukturou záběrů sestávajících se většinou z dlouhých výstavních scén, v nichž si trekkies konečně mohou v té nejlepší možné kvalitě prohlédnout interiéry a exteriéry nejznámější lodě ve vesmíru. Pomalé "bezdějové" vyprávění však následně Wise zasadí do mnohem širšího rámce, když začne s Enterprise putovat do neprobádaných útrob neznámého vetřelce - tady se opravdu nehodí nic jiného, než ono přirovnání k Vesmírné odysee. Dlouhé záběry, halucinogenní průlety lodí neznámým prostorem a majestátní hudba Jerryho Goldsmithe jdou sice proti očekáváním, ale na druhou stranu konstruují téměř nezapomenutelný vesmírný "trek" s výtečnou mysteriózní atmosférou. Úplný závěr je už naprostá "nerdvana" pro hardcore milovníky žánru. ( 31.03.2013 )

Súc milovníkom sci-fi mal by som vehementne toto dielo obhajovať. Ale nie je tomu tak ..... Neskutočne rozťahaný dej , hlavne v prvej polovici filmu, miestami slaboduchý scenár a - čo ma prekvapilo najviac - miestami detinsky primitívne zábery na vesmírne lode . Až pozretím tohoto filmu by si mal človek uvedomiť, akú perlu stvoril Kubrick o 10 rokov pred týmto Star Trekom .... ( 02.03.2007 )

Ještě nikdy jsem v žádných filmových titulcích nefiguroval, takže jsem se šel na ten film podívat. Na konci už se všichni začali zvedat a odcházet, zatímco na plátně se odvíjela nekonečná řada jmen. Sál se sice vyprazdňoval, Janet a já jsme ale vytrvale vyčkávali až do posledního, ÚPLNĚ POSLEDNÍHO titulku: vědecký poradce - Isaac Asimov. Samozřejmě jsem začal hlasitě aplaudovat a zřetelně jsem slyšel, jak někdo v uličce říká: "To je Asimov a tleská svému vlastnímu jménu." Tak se zrodila další historka o mé ješitnosti. ( NIRO )

DALLAS (AP) — The first model of the USS Enterprise — used in the opening credits of the original “Star Trek” television series — has boldly gone back home, returning to creator Gene Roddenberry’s son decades after it went missing.

The model’s disappearance sometime in the 1970s had become the subject of lore, so it caused a stir when it popped up on eBay last fall. The sellers quickly took it down, and then contacted Dallas-based Heritage Auctions to authenticate it. Last weekend, the auction house facilitated the model’s return.

Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, CEO of Roddenberry Entertainment, said he’s thrilled to have the model that had graced the desk of his father, who died in 1991 at age 70.

“This is not going home to adorn my shelves,” Roddenberry said. “This is going to get restored and we’re working on ways to get it out so the public can see it and my hope is that it will land in a museum somewhere.”

AP correspondent Margie Szaroleta reports on the return of the original model of the USS Enterprise from the TV show “Star Trek.”

Heritage’s executive vice president, Joe Maddalena, said the auction house was contacted by people who said they’d discovered it a storage unit, and when it was brought into their Beverly Hills office, he and a colleague “instantly knew that it was the real thing.”

They reached out to Roddenberry, who said he appreciates that everyone involved agreed returning the model was the right thing to do. He wouldn’t go into details on the agreement reached but said “I felt it important to reward that and show appreciation for that.”

Maddalena said the model vanished in the 1970s after Gene Roddenberry loaned it to makers of “Star Trek: The Motion Picture,” which was released in 1979.

“No one knew what happened to it,” Rod Roddenberry said.

The 3-foot (0.91-meter) model of the USS Enterprise was used in the show’s original pilot episode as well as the opening credits of the resulting TV series, and was the prototype for the 11-foot (3-meter) version featured in the series’ episodes. The larger model is on display at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum.

The original “Star Trek” television series, which aired in the late 1960s, kicked off an ever-expanding multiverse of cultural phenomena, with TV and movie spinoffs and conventions where a fanbase of zealous and devoted Trekkies can’t get enough of memorabilia.

This USS Enterprise model would easily sell for more than $1 million at auction, but really “it’s priceless,” Maddalena said.

“It could sell for any amount and I wouldn’t be surprised because of what it is,” he said. “It is truly a cultural icon.”

Roddenberry, who was just a young boy when the model went missing, said he has spotty memories of it, “almost a deja vu.” He said it wasn’t something he’d thought much about until people began contacting him after it appeared on eBay.

“I don’t think I really, fully comprehended at first that this was the first Enterprise ever created,” he said.

He said he has no idea if there was something nefarious behind the disappearance all those decades ago or if it was just mistakenly lost, but it would be interesting to find out more about what happened.

“This piece is incredibly important and it has its own story and this would be a great piece of the story,” Roddenberry said.

Thankfully, he said, the discovery has cleared up one rumor: That it was destroyed because as a young boy, he’d thrown it into a pool.

“Finally I’m vindicated after all these years,” he said with a laugh.

David Ajala returns as Cleveland Booker in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, as the former courier's expertise is vital to catching Moll (Eve Harlow) and L'ak (Elias Toufexis), Discovery season 5's new villains. Booker's pet cat, Grudge, is also back.

In Star Trek: Discovery season 5, Cleveland Booker joins Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the USS Discovery's hunt for the ancient treasure of the Progenitors , which has the power to create life. Book's reunion with Burnham is awkward as they have been estranged since their romance ended. Meanwhile, Book realizes Moll is the daughter of his mentor, Cleveland Booker IV, and he is desperate to connect with Moll, who is the closest thing Cleveland now has to family.

Grudge Took The End Of Star Trek: Discovery Hard

Screen Rant: When you and the cast found out that Discovery season 5 is the final season , who told Grudge and how did Grudge react?

David Ajala: I had to tell Grudge. And you wanna know a secret? Grudge took it pretty well, actually. I mean, she's far from being overly sentimental. But I think the main thing that she was just disappointed by is that she will no longer have a whole trailer to herself. She was a bit bummed out by that. I told her, 'Hey, you've got me.' She's like, 'Yeah.'

Did she get on the phone and call her agent?

David Ajala: So you know she's got an agent, then. So you know that she has a whole entourage. It's an agent, manager, stylist, groomer. Someone who feeds her cat treats. Myself. I'm part of the entourage. There's a few. It's a bit embarrassing, but we love her.

When Discovery ended, did you keep anything from the set? Tell me you kept one of Booker's coats.

David Ajala: Absolutely, I kept something, John, but I don't wanna get in trouble. So I can't say what. I may have taken one thing. (laughs) You have to.

Although Discovery isn't over yet, looking back, what's your lasting impression of Cleveland Booker and Michael's relationship, and playing it for three years with Sonequa?

David Ajala: When Sonequa reached out to me, [and] I knew that I was joining the show or I had been cast, she said, ‘Welcome to this wonderful world where everyone supports each other, where we're so excited to be on set, where we literally believe that we have lightning in a bottle.’ I believe that their relationship is lightning in a bottle, but it's lightning that feels, dare I say it, safe. It's exciting, and it feels safe. I think these two will always be in each other's lives. I think they bring out the best in each other. And behind every great woman is herself.

What It Was Like Filming On Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Enterprise Sets

This week's episode of Discovery is one of my favorites of season 5. You, Sonequa, Eve Harlow, and Elias Toufexis spent most of the episode on the Enterprise set. I need to know what that was like for you.

David Ajala: Oh, it was amazing. Like, truly, because it's one thing, seeing it on the screen. And having seen it many times over the years, and then now to physically be in that space... It was tricky. It was. And I think seeing it for the first time, my reaction was captured on camera because I wanted it to be that. And just to see how Sonequa looked around and took in the space, and held the space in such reverence and awe just really helped to enjoy the magic of that moment.

You guys shot that episode during Strange New Worlds' hiatus, right? They had already finished season 2.

David Ajala: That's right.

When you were on Strange New Worlds ' sets, did you notice a difference between their set and Discovery' s set? Is there something they have that you guys don't, and you were like, 'Hey, how come they have this and we don't?' Or was it vice versa?

David Ajala: It was more vice versa? Oh, man, y'all don't have this, but we do? All right, then. It is what it is. There were few little tiny details that we were very grateful for at the time. But you can tell the distinct difference between the two sets. They're not too dissimilar, but I definitely prefer our set. And that's not being biased. I think it's just more fun, because there's a lot of little hidden things that we have that helped us to get through our days when we're filming. I'll say that much without getting in trouble.

Booker Tries to Connect With Burnham & Moll In Discovery Season 5

I love that Book is very zen this season. In season 4, he was in dire straits. His planet blew up. He lost his family. He lost Michael. He went to prison. But Book is very centered now. Can you talk about this new approach to playing Book and where he's at in season 5?

David Ajala: Thank you, by the way, John. I appreciate that. I think with this version of Cleveland Booker, he is someone who, loosely, I'll say this, he has had a fall from grace very, very publicly, but with the best of intentions. He's also someone who has been given a second chance. And I feel that he understands the grace he's been afforded to be given a second chance. And I think he grabs that second chance like a life raft. It helps to be intentional again. So I think he's operating from a place of a much deeper level of intentionality. And I think, also, he loves Michael, and he wants to be seen in the best light with regard to Michael because he care. Beyond the ego, I think he cares deeply for her.

I honestly think Michael and Book is one of the greatest love stories ever told in Star Trek. And you know, it's not over yet. But the depth of it, the honesty, just the beauty of the two of them, the way they support each other, even when they're at odds, I think it's just beautiful to watch.

David Ajala: That's wonderful. Thank you, John.

Talk to me a little bit about Booker's desire to connect with Moll . I understand Book's feeling that she's the closest thing to family he has left.

David Ajala: Exactly. And it's such a profoundly huge idea to digest, but his whole planet, Kwejian, was obliterated. There is nothing left of it whatsoever. In fact, the only physical thing he has is the chain, the necklace around his neck. That's the only thing he has of Kwejian. And then, now, to be in such close proximity with an individual who is the closest thing to family that he has, this feels also like another second chance. But this second chance, I guess, is a lot more complicated. But I think because of the need Cleveland Booker has to connect. I think he will do the utmost to try and reach Moll.

I also really like how Moll and L'ak remind Book of himself and Michael during the courier days. I just love that.

David Ajala: Yeah, I'm really happy you picked up on that, John. That is such a lovely little detail, which I think charges the energy better and increases the stakes because now he's looking at a parallel version of him and Michael Burnham. He gets them. He understands the thrill they seek, the thrill of the chase. Better the devil you know, right? I love that. And more will be revealed as the episodes continue.

Book's Future In Star Trek After Discovery

This is the final season. If Discovery had continued, was there ever a chance of Booker actually joining Starfleet? Is that something you or he would have wanted?

David Ajala: Potentially. I think it's an invitation that he would have been gracious enough to accept and not to claim. But I think what's important to Cleveland Booker is to be the master of his fate, and to keep and maintain that autonomy. So, if there's a hybrid version of being able to maintain that autonomy, and also be of service to Starfleet, whatever that role looks like, Cleveland Booker would gladly take that role.
