Taylor Swift fans rejoice at Toronto tour dates

Social sharing.

Ending her reign as Canada's anti-hero, Taylor Swift has announced six Canadian concert dates for her Eras tour.

The pop superstar's previously released schedule had conspicuously left off any stops north of the border , while hitting 50 stops across North America, South America, Europe and Asia.

But as the scheduled shows stretched into late 2024, fans across the country expressed surprise — and tried to convince Swift to change her mind.

The campaign to bring Swift to Canada spread all the way to government. Alongside a pun-laden tweet by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Edmonton MP Matt Jeneroux said he would file a grievance "on behalf of all Swifties" who wanted to see the singer perform in the country.

The revised schedule includes Canadian shows, but they are all in one city: Toronto.

Swift will be performing at the Rogers Centre on Nov. 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23 in 2024, according to a post on her Instagram account. She will be the first musician to ever play that many shows in a row at the stadium, Rogers shared in a press release.

While Swift has played in Canada in the past, her presence in the country has been dwindling — at least physically.

Her 2018 Reputation Stadium tour similarly made Rogers Centre its only stop, though with only two shows there instead of six. That show marked the last time Swift performed in Canada.

All of her previous tours included at least two Canadian cities: 2015's world tour for her album 1989 included concerts in Ottawa, Montreal, Edmonton and Vancouver along with Toronto, while 2013's Red tour included Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Toronto.

#TheMoment Taylor Swift fans caused an earthquake at her concert

For fans across Canada holding out hope, more late add-on dates may be possible.

As is common for major stadium tours, Swift often adds additional cities as she tours — including Edmonton's inclusion nearly four months after her Red tour's initial shows were announced.

But even with additional dates, Swifties can still expect a cruel summer — and fall, winter and spring.

Back when the Eras tour's Ticketmaster presale opened in Nov. 2022, fans reported so much difficulty purchasing tickets it led to heated questions in a U.S. Senate hearing with Ticketmaster's parent company Live Nation Entertainment .

 • Springsteen's 'dynamic' ticket prices just the latest twist in Ticketmaster saga
 • Calgary Taylor Swift fans disappointed over singer's decision to skip Canada on new tour

The huge number of fans — as well as bots — quickly crashed the site , and caused multiple people to lose their spot in line and chance to get a ticket for themselves.

"We apologize to the fans, we apologize to Ms. Swift, we need to do better and we will do better," Live Nation's president and chief financial officer Joe Berchtold said at the January hearing.

Verified fan registration for Toronto's show is open on Ticketmaster now while tickets go on sale Aug. 9.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour is finally coming to Canada with 6 Toronto shows

Taylor Swift is finally booking an Eras Tour stop in Toronto and making amends with a six-show stint in the city.

The “Anti-Hero” singer-songwriter announced on Thursday that she will be spending almost two weeks in Toronto in the fall of 2024.

 • The information you need to know, sent directly to you: Download the CTV News App

Her first string of concerts is booked at the Rogers Centre — a venue with a capacity of more than 50,000 — on Nov. 14, 15, and 16, followed by another stint on Nov 21, 22, and 23.

“Turns out it’s NOT the end of an era,” Swift teased on Twitter while announcing the second leg of her tour coming to Miami, New Orleans, Indianapolis and Toronto.

The mega pop star said tickets aren’t on sale yet, but they will be on Wednesday . In the meantime, verified fan registration for Toronto shows is now open.

American musician Gracie Abrams, who Swift has called one of her favourite friends while performing together in Ohio, will be joining her on stage in Toronto.

In June, Canadian fans were left in the lurch when Swift announced 40 new dates for her Eras Tour, including Mexico, Europe, Asia and Australia – skipping Canada entirely.

It seems Swift is eager to smooth over the rough patch with Canadians – the only other cities that got six shows were Los Angeles and Singapore.

The original omission pushed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to tweet at Swift with paraphrased lyrics from her own songs, posting, "It's me, hi. I know places in Canada would love to have you. So, don't make it another cruel summer. We hope to see you soon."

Following the news of Swift's tour making it north of the U.S. border, the prime minister tweeted, "We're ready for it."

We’re ready for it.

TAYLOR SWIFT WILL HAVE ‘ENORMOUS’ IMPACT ON TORONTO

Destinations Toronto Executive Vice President Andrew Weir said Swift’s shows will have an “enormous” impact on the city’s tourism and hospitality industries when they need it most.

“That's a critical time for our industry, just as the time when a lot of business travel starts to subside, leisure travel for the holidays hasn't really picked up yet,” Weir told CP24.

As the only city in the country with shows booked, Weir said he expects the geographic radius of Swifties inundating Toronto will be significant, and in turn, reflect a substantial monetary value.

On average, Era Tour fans are spending U.S. $1,300 – equivalent to more than $1,700 in Canada – on tickets, merchandise, alcohol, food, parking and hotels, Canadian music correspondent Eric Alper told CP24.

taylor swift eras tour canada twitter

“You tabulate that, she could be raking in anywhere between $75 million and $100 million just based on these six dates alone,” Alper said.

He notes that several days linger between Swift’s Toronto shows, which could leave room for more dates to be announced, or even a quick visit to stages in another major city, like Montreal or Vancouver.

THE ERAS TOUR SO FAR

The first leg of the Eras Tour launched in March with the final date booked in Brazil at the end of November 2023.After a few months to rest her vocal cords, Swift will be back on stage in Tokyo in February 2024.

The three-hour concert takes fans through the eras of the Grammy-winner’s 17-year career, spanning from “Love Story” in her earliest era to her most recent “Anti-Hero.”

With the first stretch of the tour nearly in the rear-view, Swift wrote, “really blows my mind that we have one last city on the US leg,” on Instagram this week before heading to Santa Clara.

taylor swift eras tour canada twitter

While Canadian Swifties are rejoicing about the new tour dates, securing tickets could be a battle in itself. When tickets for the first leg of her Eras Tour were released, Swift broke Ticketmaster with insufficient supply to meet the extraordinary fan demand.

The U.S. will not have seen the last of the Eras Tour next week after all. Taylor Swift will bring her stadium outing back to the United States and Canada in October and November… not of this year, but in 2024.

Swift announced 15 more shows in four North American cities on Thursday morning, including a long-awaited answer to the musical question: What about Canada? The Eras Tour will have what for now are its concluding dates in November 2024 with six shows in Toronto, Ontario at the Rogers Centre.

“Turns out it’s NOT the end of an era,” Swift wrote on social media. “Miami, New Orleans, Indy and Toronto: The Eras Tour is coming to you in 2024 with @gracieabrams ! Verified fan registration for all shows is open now – visit TaylorSwift.com for more information.”

At Swift’s website, fans are being informed that Verified Fan registration for the U.S. shows next year is open through Aug. 5 at 5 p.m. ET. The actual on-sale date for tickets has not yet been revealed but will be sent to Verified Fan registrants. Following what will likely be an instantaneous sellout, resale tickets for the added shows will also become available on sites such as Vividseats , Stubhub and Seatgeek .

Notably, Swift did not say these were the final dates, leaving the door open for possibly still more additions to the tour, after it makes its unexpected trip back to North American home territory following an existing 2024 itinerary that takes the Eras Tour throughout Europe.

From there, Swift will fill out the rest of this year with shows in Latin America, albeit at a less constant pace than the concerts that have had her on the go in the States since the Eras Tour opened in Arizona on March 17. She performs along with guest Sabrina Carpenter in Mexico City Aug. 24-27, Buenos Aires Nov. 9-11, Rio de Janeiro Nov. 17-19 and Sao Paulo Nov. 24-26.

The tour picks up in 2024 with four shows in Tokyo Feb. 7-10 before moving on to Sydney, Australia later in February and Singapore in March. A European leg of the tour begins in earnest with four nights in Paris May 9-12, wrapping up Aug. 17 with the last of six shows scheduled for London’s Wembley Stadium. Swift then has a two-month gap in her schedule before resuming in Toronto Nov. 14.

Taylor Swift is finally bringing her Eras Tour to Toronto

Latest Videos

Taylor Swift has officially announced that she will be bringing her Eras Tour to Toronto for six unforgettable shows.

Canadian Swifties have been practically begging the American singer-songwriter to bring her sold-out tour just north of the border after it was first announced in November 2022.

Turns out it’s NOT the end of an era 😝 Miami, New Orleans, Indy and Toronto: The Eras Tour is coming to you in 2024 with @gracieabrams ! The stadium tour — which is the artist's most expansive yet — takes you on a journey through all of her musical eras and pays homage to each of her albums.

Back in June, Canadian Swifties were devastated after the country was noticeably absent from a long list of new international dates in 2024, including stops in Japan, Australia, Singapore, and the U.K.

Canada's repeated exclusion from the worldwide tour even led to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau personally reaching out to Swift via Twitter to ask her what the Bad Blood was all about.

However, it looks like Canada's prayers have finally been answered, because the artist announced on Thursday that she will be performing a record-breaking six nights at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

The Eras Tour will mark the first time that the American singer-songwriter will be performing in Canada since her 2018 Reputation Stadium Tour .

Verified fan registration for the shows is already open, and tickets are set to go on sale starting Aug. 9. Swifties should prepare for a potentially frustrating and nail-biting ticket purchase, due to the tour's unprecedented demand, which crashed Ticketmaster's website immediately after the first batch of tickets went live late last year.

Swift will bring her Eras Tour to the Rogers Centre for six nights on Nov. 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, and 23 in 2024.

How Taylor Swift Includes The Tortured Poets Department in the Eras Tour

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour - Paris, France

A fter a two-month hiatus, Taylor Swift returned to the stage today, embarking on the European leg of the Eras Tour . Swift performed the first of four nights in Paris, about three weeks after she released her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department .

Soon after the album’s release, fans were convinced Swift would add The Tortured Poets Department to the Eras Tour, based on the star’s social media activity. On April 25, Swift posted a YouTube Short video of her rehearsing for the tour, in which the album’s opening song “Fortnight” could be heard. The caption read: “A fortnight til Paris.”

In an interview with Radio France , Swift’s French tour promoter said she would be including new songs from the album on the next leg of the Eras Tour. “We are going to discover a slightly modified show since she has released a new album,” he said.

As the show kicked off in Paris on Thursday evening, all signs pointed to The Tortured Poets Department 's inclusion on the setlist. Fans noted that it was included in the tour intro:

Taylor Swift makes changes to the Eras Tour set in Paris

Swift added The Tortured Poets Department to the Eras Tour intro and reordered the setlist on the first night in Paris. The "Lover" portion of the show previously ended with the song "The Archer," but on Thursday, Swift skipped it, going from "Lover" to "Fearless." After the "Fearless" era, Swift went right into the "Red" era instead of "Evermore," and followed that up with songs from Speak Now and Reputation . Fans noted that Swift skipped performing "Long Live" from Speak Now , which she added to the setlist last July.

Other changes followed when Swift went into the "Folklore" era. While the "Evermore" and "Folklore" eras typically occurred at different parts of the show, in Paris, Swift announced she was combining them, since they are "sister albums."

"On the Eras Tour, we have now reunited the sisters, combined them into one chapter. You can call it "Folkmore," you can call it "Everlore," she said, before performing "Champagne Problems" (from Evermore ) followed by "August" (from Folklore ).

How The Tortured Poets Department is included in the Eras Tour

Swift introduced the "Tortured Poets" section of the Eras Tour after a performance of "Bad Blood," with the set turning into an image of a long road. She opened the new era with a performance of "But Daddy I Love Him."

The second song in the "Tortured Poets" era was a shortened version of "So High School," followed by a performance of "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?"

Swift then sang "Down Bad," as an image of a UFO flew above her, before performing the album's opening track, "Fortnight." The next song from Tortured Poets was "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived."

Then, Swift changed into a gold jacket, while a jazzy tune played, before singing "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart."

But the "Tortured Poets" era wasn't over. After "Paris," Swift performed the melancholy "loml," track 12 from the new album, before diving in to the "Midnights" section of the show with "Lavender Haze."

The Tortured Poets Department made history as the most streamed album in a single day, accumulating over 300 million streams—beating out the previous record holder: Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter . It also became the fastest album to amass over one billion streams in just five days, making it the most streamed album in a week with over 799 million streams. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with 2.61 million equivalent album units (this includes vinyls, CDs, cassettes, and digital album downloads). Swift celebrated the album’s success with a post to Instagram sharing photos of her and her collaborators making the project.

The caption reads, “2.6 million ARE YOU ACTUALLY SERIOUS?? Thank you for listening, streaming, and welcoming Tortured Poets into your life. Feeling completely overwhelmed,” she writes. “I was already so fired up to get back to the tour but you doing THIS?? May 9th can’t come soon enough.”

Justin Trudeau, on behalf of all Canadian Swifties, issues plea to Taylor to bring her tour to his country

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau awarded himself another prestigious title: leader of the Canadian Swifties.

On July 5, Taylor Swift announced more international dates for her Eras Tour , which will now continue until August 2024 and include over 50 stops overseas.

Her tweet included information about concert dates in cities across the pond, like Paris, London and Dublin. She also previously tweeted a list of performances scheduled in South America and Australia.

But, so far, it appears the 33-year-old singer will not play any shows in Canada.

After seeing that his fellow Canadians were left out, Trudeau issued a plea to the “Lavender Haze” singer on behalf of all the Swifties up north who are desperate to see Swift live.

He decided to reference a few of her hits in his clever tweet .

“It’s me, hi,” he began in his reply to Swift’s announcement, quoting lyrics from “Anti-Hero.”

Trudeau continued to show off his knowledge of her music catalog by mentioning the “1989” track “I Know Places.”

The 51-year-old politician wrote, “I know places in Canada would love to have you.”

“So, don’t make it another cruel summer,” he said, a nod to her recent single from her “Lover” album. “We hope to see you soon.”

Some Twitter users did not appreciate his public request.

“This is SOOOO cringe,” one person said .

Others supported his efforts.

“FINALLY, MY PRIME MINISTER SPEAKS,” one Swiftie wrote .

Another fan complimented the musician’s global star power and tweeted , “Taylor princess of the world collecting requests for her presence from world leaders left and right.”

According to Billboard , Swift has not performed in Canada since she visited the country for her 2018 “Reputation” stadium tour.

While Canadians will have to wait and see if Trudeau’s plea works, other Swifties celebrated seeing their countries on the list of tour dates.

The Grammy winner was also enthusiastic about taking the Eras Tour worldwide. In her tweet on July 5, Swift said, “Really can’t contain my excitement because
we’re adding 14 new shows to The Eras Tour.”

She revealed that Paramore — whose lead singer Hayley Williams will be featured on the vault track “Castles Crumbling” on “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” — will open for her.

“Hayley and I have been friends since we were teens in Nashville and now we get to frolic around the UK/Europe next summer??? I’m screaming???” Swift wrote.

Following the Ticketmaster debacle last year , international fans who are hoping to purchase tickets will have to pre-register first to be eligible for pre-sales and regular sales.

Fans can find more information about the new dates and sale times on Swift’s website.

Fans are following Taylor Swift to Europe after finding Eras Tour tickets less costly there

Thousands of Taylor Swift fans are following her across the pond after missing out on her U.S. concert tour last year or being put off by marked-up ticket prices.

Taylor Swift fans drinking at The Black Dog in Vauxhall, south London, said they were there thanks to the track “The Black Dog,” in which the singer describes monitoring an unnamed ex’s visit “into some bar called The Black Dog,” through location share on her phone.

LONDON (AP) — Thousands of ride-or-die Taylor Swift fans who missed out on her U.S. concert tour last year or didn’t want to buy exorbitantly priced tickets to see her again found an out-of-the-way solution: Fly to Europe.

The pop star is scheduled to kick off the 18-city Europe leg of her record-setting Eras Tour in Paris on Thursday, and planeloads of Swifties plan to follow Miss Americana across the pond in the coming weeks. The arena where Swift is appearing said Americans bought 20% of the tickets for her four sold-out shows. Stockholm, the tour’s next stop, expects about 10,000 concertgoers from the U.S.

A concert might sound like an odd raison d’etre for visiting a foreign country, especially when fans can watch the Eras Tour from home via the documentary now streaming on Disney+. Yet online travel company Expedia says continent-hopping by Swift’s devotees is part of a larger trend it dubbed “tour tourism” while observing a pattern that emerged during BeyoncĂ©'s Renaissance world tour .

Some North American fans who plan to fly overseas for the Eras Tour said they justified the expense after noticing that tighter restrictions on ticket fees and resales in Europe made seeing Swift perform abroad no more costly — and potentially cheaper — than catching her closer to home .

“They said, ’Wait a minute, I can either spend $1,500 to go see my favorite artist in Miami, or I can take that $1,500 and buy a concert ticket, a round-trip plane ticket, and three nights in a hotel room,” Melanie Fish, an Expedia spokesperson and travel expert, said.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz beams while holding up the so-called Taylor Swift bill he signed into law as lawmakers, First Avenue employees and online ticket buyers clap Tuesday, May 7, 2024, inside the First Avenue concert venue in Minneapolis. The law, prompted by the frustration a legislator felt at not being able to buy tickets to Swift's 2023 concert in Minneapolis, will require ticket sellers to disclose all fees up front and prohibit resellers from selling more than one copy of a ticket for live events held in Minnesota, among other measures. (AP Photo/Trisha Ahmed)

That was the experience of Jennifer Warren, 43, who lives in St. Catharines, a city in the Niagara region of Ontario. She and her 11-year-old son love Swift but had no luck scoring what she considered as decently priced tickets in the U.S. Undeterred, Warren and her husband decided to plan a European vacation around wherever she managed to get seats. It turned out to be Hamburg, Germany.

AP AUDIO: Fans are following Taylor Swift to Europe after finding Eras Tour tickets less costly there

AP correspondent Jennifer King reports Taylor Swift is heading to Europe, and her U.S. fans are following.

“You get out, you get to see the world, and you get to see your favorite artist or performer at the same time, so there are a lot of wins to it,” said Warren, who works as the director of research and innovation for a mutual insurance company.

The three VIP tickets she secured close to the stage — “I would call it brute-force dumb luck” — cost 600 euros ($646) each. Swift subsequently announced six November tour dates in Toronto, within driving distance of Warren’s home. “Absolute nose-bleed seats” already are going for 3,000 Canadian dollars ($2,194) on secondary resale sites like Viagogo, Warren said.

TOUR TOURISM: IS IT REALLY A THING?

Hard-core fans trailing their favorite singer or band on tour is not a new phenomenon. “Groupie” emerged in the late 1960s as a somewhat derogatory word for the ardent followers of rock bands. Deadheads took to the road in the 1970s to pursue the Grateful Dead from city to city.

More recently, music festivals like California’s Coachella and England’s Glastonbury, and concert residencies in Las Vegas by the likes of Elton John, Lady Gaga and Adele, have attracted travelers to places they wouldn’t otherwise visit, Fish noted.

Travel and entertainment analysts have also spoken of a pent-up consumer demand for “experiences” over material objects since the coronavirus pandemic. Some think the willingness of music lovers to broaden their fandom horizons is part of the same mass cultural correction.

“It does seem like it’s more than a structural shift, maybe a personality transformation we all went through,” said Natalia Lechmanova, the chief Europe economist for the Mastercard Economics Institute.

As Swift hopscotches across Europe, Lechmanova expects restaurants and hotels to see the same boost that Mastercard observed within a 2.5-mile (4-kilometer) radius of concert venues in the U.S. cities she visited in 2023. The U.S. dollar’s strong value against the euro may also increase retail spending on apparel, memorabilia, beauty products and supplies for the friendship bracelets fans exchange as part of the Eras Tour experience, the economist said.

Former college roommates Lizzy Hale, 34, who lives in Los Angeles, and Mitch Goulding, 33, who lives in Austin, Texas, already had tickets to see the Eras Tour in L.A. last summer when they decided to try to get ones for Paris, London or Edinburgh, Scotland, too. They saw a Europe concert trip as a makeup for travel plans they had in May 2020 to celebrate Goulding’s birthday but had to cancel due to the pandemic.

Goulding managed to secure VIP tickets for one of Swift’s three Stockholm shows. He, Hale and two other friends scheduled a 10-day trip that also includes time in Amsterdam and Copenhagen.

“As people who enjoy traveling and enjoy music, if you can find an opportunity to combine the two, it’s really special,” said Hale, who is pregnant with her first child.

FOR STOCKHOLM, 120,000 SWIFTIES CAN’T BE WRONG

The local economic impact of what the zeitgeist has termed “Swiftonomics” and the “Swift lift” can be considerable . It’s no wonder the exclusive arrangement Singapore’s government made with Swift to make the city-state her only tour stop in Southeast Asia earlier this year aroused regional jealousy .

No European governments have complained of their countries not being among the dozen selected for the Europe leg of the Eras Tour, although some fans have expressed surprise that Gelsenkirchen, a city with a population of about 264,000 is one of the three cities in Germany that made the cut.

Airbnb reported Tuesday that searches on its platform for the U.K. cities where Swift is performing in June and August — Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff and London — increased an average of 337% when tickets went on sale last summer.

Not to be outdone when it comes to trend-spotting, the property rentals company cited the demand as an example of “passion tourism,” or travel “driven by concerts, sports and other cultural events.”

In Stockholm , 120,000 out-of-towners from 130 countries -- among them 10,000 from the U.S. — are expected to swarm Sweden’s capital this month, Stockholm Chamber of Commerce Chief Economist Carl Bergqvist said. Stockholm is the only Scandinavian city on Swift’s tour, and airlines added extra flights from nearby Denmark, Finland and Norway to bring people to the May 17-19 shows, he said.

The city’s 40,000 hotel rooms are sold out even though prices skyrocketed for the tour dates, Bergqvist said. Concert visitors are expected to pump around 500 million Swedish kroner, or over $46 million, into the local economy over the course of their stays, an estimate that does not include what they paid for Swift tickets or to get to Sweden, he said.

“So this is going to be huge for the tourism sector in Sweden and Stockholm in particular,” Bergqvist said.

Nightclubs, restaurants and bars are seizing the opportunity to cater to fans with Taylor Swift-themed events, such as karaoke, quizzes and after-concert dance parties.

Houston resident Caroline Matlock, 29, saw Swift more than a year ago when the Eras Tour came to the Texas city. Now she’s making more friendship bracelets and trying to learn a few words of Swedish as she prepares to see the 3 1/2-hour show in Stockholm. The idea of seeing Swift in Europe was her friend’s, and Matlock needed some persuading at first.

“I was like, ‘I only want to go if it’s a country I haven’t been to. I’ve seen Taylor Swift,’” she said.

Visiting the Scandinavian cities of Oslo and Gothenburg is on their itinerary. The concert is the last night of the trip and Matlock looks forward to interacting with Swifties from other countries: “Americans tend to have a very obsessive culture, especially Taylor Swift-related, so I’m curious if the crowd will be more toned-down.”

WILL TOUR TOURISM ENDURE AFTER ERAS?

It remains to be seen if the music tourism trend has legs as long and strong as Swift’s and BeyoncĂ©'s, and if it will carry over to Billie Eilish, Usher and other artists with world tours scheduled next year. Expedia’s Fish thinks other big-name artists in Europe this summer will prove that booking a foreign trip around a concert is catching on.

Kat Morga, a travel consultant based in Nashville, isn’t so sure. Morga saw Swift perform in Nashville last year and helped two clients with school-aged children book European family vacations this summer that include seeing Swift in concert. But she thinks the difficulty of navigating ticket purchases through language barriers, currency conversions, international banking regulations and the risk of cancellations will limit the appeal of regular gig getaways.

“I think this is an anomaly,” Morga said. “People aren’t typically going to build their $20,000 huge family vacation only because Taylor Swift is there. She’s the one-off. She’s special.”

Booking Holdings CEO Glenn Fogel, whose company operates Booking.com, priceline.com, agoda.com, Kayak and OpenTable, is even less enthusiastic about concert tours as a tourism instigator. The Swift Effect causes a “little blip” when the superstar goes to smaller destinations, but for the worldwide travel industry, “one star touring around does not make a difference,” he said.

“It may just shift it a little bit. A person was going to go to the Caribbean for a week vacation. Instead that person (says), ‘Let’s travel to the Taylor Swift thing,’” Fogel said. “It doesn’t increase it. It just moves it from here to there.”

AP journalists Colleen Barry in Milan, Chisato Tanaka in Stockholm, Anne D’Innocenzio in New York, David Koenig in Dallas, Thomas Adamson in Paris and Brian Melley in London contributed reporting.

Taylor Swift debuts ‘Tortured Poets’ songs live as Eras Tour resumes

Swift made some significant changes to the 3-hour-and-15-minute set when she kicked off the European leg of her record-shattering tour Thursday after a two-month break.

taylor swift eras tour canada twitter

Taylor Swift’s record-shattering Eras Tour has essentially been a well-oiled, steady machine since it launched in March 2023 — she switched up a few songs on occasion, but mostly stuck to the same set list during the 3-hour-and-15-minute spectacle. And Swift’s loyal fan base has spent hours studying footage from around the world, with millions tuning in on fan-hosted live-streams to memorize every detail.

But on Thursday, Swift made some significant changes to the show for the first time as the tour kicked off its European leg at Paris La DĂ©fense Arena in Nanterre, France, for the first of four sold-out concerts. As many predicted, she debuted live performances of her songs from her 11th studio record, “The Tortured Poets Department,” a double album that contains 31 tracks and sold the equivalent of 2.61 million albums in its first week (combining physical sales and streams) when it dropped in mid-April .

🚹| Taylor Swift performing "Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?" on 'The Eras Tour'! #ParisTSTheErasTour pic.twitter.com/O9FkuejQrN — The Eras Tour (@tswifterastour) May 9, 2024

“You are so present and it means the world to us as performers when you show up to a concert and when you act this way.
It makes us want to show you all kinds of fun surprises,” Swift, 34, told the extremely enthusiastic audience early in the night, calling the Eras Tour “the best experience of my life, honestly.”

The concert was live-streamed by fans on TikTok. One viewed by The Post featured a news ticker running at the bottom of the video with updates about the show: new outfits, new video screen visuals, a new order for some of the songs. Swift, who divides her set list into “eras” from her 18-year career, kicked off the “Tortured Poets” era about two hours into the concert with “But Daddy I Love Him” — a track that many interpret to be a message to her fan base about their, ah, extreme interest in her love life and the men she dates.

The Style section

“I’ll tell you something about my good name, it’s mine alone to disgrace,” Swift sang, running back and forth across the stage throughout. “
God save the most judgmental creeps who say they want what’s best for me, sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I’ll never see.” At the end, she sat down with her dancers and added a verse from “So High School” with lines that include “You know how to ball; I know Aristotle” — thought to be a reference to her boyfriend , the very famous football player Travis Kelce. (Swift did not sit for any interviews about the album and has provided very little detail for the ideas behind the lyrics.)

Even if they were being scolded, the fans loved it. The ecstatic screaming and cheering continued in the audience as Swift continued through “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?,” which appears to detail the downsides of fame, along with breakup anthems “Down Bad” and “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” along with her new single with Post Malone, “Fortnight.” Swift added all kinds of new dance routines and set pieces, including one that made it look as if she were levitating across the stage.

And she performed a brief play before “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” an upbeat track about how she was able to perform on the Eras Tour even through heartbreak. Two magicians dragged her lifeless body to another part of the stage where they “forced” her to change into another sparkly outfit as she rolled her eyes and reluctantly got ready to dance.

“So you were the first crowd ever to see ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ chapter of the Eras Tour!” Swift said cheerfully during the next set where she played a couple of surprise acoustic songs. “Or as I like to call it, ‘Female Rage: The Musical.’”

Otherwise, many chapters of the show stayed the same. Though some wondered whether Swift would simply extend the concert to four hours, she cut six songs overall and condensed the “Folklore” and “Evermore” eras into one, explaining that she considers them “sister albums” because she recorded them during the same year early in the pandemic.

“I’ve always thought ‘Folklore’ to me represents spring and summer and ‘Evermore’ represents fall and winter. So on the Eras Tour, we have now reunited the sisters and combined them into one chapter,” she said. She wrapped up the concert with “Karma” a little after 11 p.m. Paris time after running through 45 songs, and thanked her dancers and band for learning all the new material.

The European leg of the Eras Tour will run through mid-August, and the tour will resume in the United States and Canada in the fall.

Taylor Swift rearranges eras, cuts Long Live from Eras Tour as she adds TTPD - live updates

Taylor Swift 's Eras Tour has undergone major changes, as the record-breaking tour returns three weeks after the release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department .

'The Archer', t he sixth song in the set -- and one which was also cut from the Eras Tour concert movie -- was cut from the live set list, as was beloved fan favorite 'Long Live,' taking the Speak Now era back to one song only.

Red replaced Evermore as the third era on the setlist. The fourth era became Speak Now, and received a brand new introduction, featuring the Eras Tour dancers performing a short ballet dance that later was incorporated into the song.

Fans inside the stadium in Paris, France have already shared the news that the show is being recorded , hinting that the brand new version of the show will also hit streaming services, much like the original setlist did in 2023.

The show opened with the usual clock count down, and her dancers walking out on stage with the butterfly wings; however the intro music included a snippet of 'I'm Gonna Get You Back' from The Tortured Poets Department .

When Taylor appeared on stage, she revealed a brand new Lover bodysuit and blazer in a sunset orange. She also debuted a new silver and black dress for the Fearless era.

Taylor is known for wearing a slogan tee for the first half of the Red portion, and she bewildered fans by wearing one that read: "This is not Taylor's Version".

Halfway through the song, a handpicked young fan was handed the '22' hat, as per tradition. She then unveilved a new Red bodysuit, but wore the same dress coat to sing 'All Too Well (Ten Minute Version)'.

YouTube shorts shared by Taylor in the weeks since TTPD's release reveal new set pieces including a barre that features the album logo in the middle, and a desk with a typewriter.

Her dancers have also been spotted with new props, while Taylor has been seen practicing in the same heels she wears in the 'Fortnight' video.

It remains unclear where in the set list will the new era be placed – and which of the 31 songs will make it? Perhaps lead single 'Fortnight' or the title track?

Other questions fans have include whether the surprise song section will feature TTPD songs, to give Taylor more opportunity to play the new album live, or if audiences will instead get deep cuts from the past 18 years.

Taylor's boyfriend Travis Kelce is not thought to be in France with her, but he sent his support by commenting 'LFG!!!!" on the Instagram account of Paul Sidoti, Taylor's long time band member.

When does the Eras Tour return?

The first show will be in Paris, France and kicks off at 8pm local time, 7pm GMT, 2pm EST, and 11am PST.

How to listen to Taylor Swift's Tortured Poets Department?

Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department is available on all streaming platforms and physical copies including vinyl, CD and cassette, are available through her website and all good retailers.

Did Taylor Swift drop a second album?

Hours after The Tortured Poets Department was released, Taylor Swift shocked fans when she dropped another 15 tracks , completing the "anthology" and offering up tracks that took aim at Kim Kardashian and her family, as well as singing about her new love Travis Kelce.

"It’s a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album," Taylor shared on social media. "I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore
it’s all yours."

The extra 15 songs included four of the bonus tracks that were supposed to only be available on limited edition CDs and viynls as well as 11 extra songs.

Did Taylor write a song for Kim Kardashian?

One of the extra 15 tracks was called 'thanK you aIMee'.

The capitalized words spelled out the name Kim and the lyrics hinted at Taylor's long-running feud with the reality star and businesswoman.

"Everyone knows that my mother is a saintly woman, but she used to say she wished that you were dead, I pushed each boulder up the hill, your words are still just ringing in my head," she sang in post-chorus before hitting back at rumors Kim has changed, singing: "And maybe you've reframed it, and in your mind you never beat my spirit black and blue, I don't think you've changed much."

TWShe then goes on to add: "And one day, your kid comes home singin' a song that only us two is gonna know is about you."

Heartbreak is an understatement for what we’re about to share. Taylor Swift has officially cancelled all Canadian Eras tour dates due to “stadium complications and intricate stage requirements.”

In a drastic and unexpected decision, the 14 grammy-award winner has announced she will no longer be bringing her tour north of the border. Swift’s management team will be issuing an official statement shortly, however the news has already devastated fans across the country.

Despite their best efforts to accommodate the tour in Canada, there are logistical challenges with the stadium infrastructure and Swift’s elaborate staging elements that are necessary to her live shows that simply can’t be worked around come November.

Just last year, three more shows were added to Toronto due to high demand, totalling 6 shows in the city – November 14th, 15th, 16th, 21st, 22nd, and 23rd.

Swift was slated to perform nine shows in Canada with the final three in Vancouver, from December 6th to 8th, ending her Eras tour.

Though not all hope is lost, the team is “actively exploring” other options to make sure she comes to Canada in the future.

Canada wasn’t part of the initial Eras tour plans when it was first announced. However, efforts to bring the popstar to Canada were consistently made by fans, supporters, and even Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, back in the summer.

Information on refunds and next steps will be issued in the following days. But for now, it looks like we’ll have to catch Taylor Swift Eras tour on Disney+ .

Thankfully this isn’t true – Happy April Fools’ Day!

Taylor Swift Added "The Tortured Poets Department" To Her Eras Tour Set, And 16 Other Changes She Made

In my humble Swiftie opinion, she added the perfect songs to the Tortured Poets Department set.

Angelica Martinez

BuzzFeed Staff

Today, Taylor Swift kicked off her first show of The Eras Tour since her new album, The Tortured Poets Department , dropped in April. Though we're already a year into this tour, Taylor really decided to shake things up for this next leg, and — honestly — it kinda feels like a whole new show. Here are all the things she added, cut, or changed:

1. she debuted a new orangish-red bodysuit and blazer for her lover set..

2. Like in the Disney+ version of her concert film, she cut "The Archer," ending the Lover era with its titular song.

3. The Fearless era got a new black, gold, and silver dress, too.

4. She switched up the order of the eras in the show, with Red now directly following Fearless as the third era of the concert. Previously, Evermore came third.

5. She debuted a new Red shirt, which reads "This Is Not Taylor's Version."

6. She also stunned in a new, ever-so-slightly different Red bodysuit.

7. Up next after Red is Speak Now , which takes the place of Reputation as the fourth era in the show. She also debuted a new pink dress for the era.

8. "Long Live" was cut from the setlist, making the Speak Now era once again just one song — "Enchanted."

9. The fifth era of the show is now Reputation .

Though she's made a ton of outfit changes in today's show, the red Rep jumpsuit lives on!

10. Folklore and Evermore have been combined, making Folkmore the sixth era in the show.

The era starts with a new intro bridging it with Reputation via a snake slithering through the woods. You can watch it here .

11. She debuted a new yellow dress for Folkmore , as well.

It very much has the energy of if you combined the cream Folklore dress with the gold Evermore dress.

12. With the combination of Folklore and Evermore, the setlist has changed, with "The 1," "The Last Great American Dynasty," "'Tis The Damn Season," and "Tolerate It" being cut.

Taylor Swift onstage

The new order is:

"Betty" (shortened version)

"Champagne Problems"

"Illicit Affairs"

"My Tears Ricochet"

13. 1989 is now the seventh era, during which she debuted a new pink and blue outfit.

14. Instead of moving into surprise songs after 1989 , The Tortured Poets Department has been added to the show, kicking off with "But Daddy I Love Him."

Here's the setlist:

"But Daddy I Love Him"

"So High School" (snippet)

"Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?"

"Down Bad"

"Fortnight"

"The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived"

"I Can Do It with a Broken Heart"

15. She debuted three new — and, might I say, instantly iconic — outfits for the new era.

16. She followed TTPD up with her acoustic set, during which she still performs one song on guitar and one on piano. During it, she also debuted a new pink dress.

For Paris N1, she fittingly performed "Paris" from Midnights on guitar and "loml" from The Tortured Poets Department on piano.

17. And, as always, the show ended with Midnights , during which she debuted a new bodysuit. Fortunately, there were no changes to the era's setlist.

That's all, folks! Here's a little summary of all the songs she added/cut:

Graphic listing Taylor Swift's songs categorized as 'Cuts', 'Additions', and her album 'Eras in Order'

I'm curious — how do you feel about the changes she made to the setlist? As an Evermore girlie, I am personally a little gutted by the cuts, but I could not be happier with her TTPD additions. Tell me your take in the comments below!

LONDON (AP) — Thousands of ride-or-die Taylor Swift fans who missed out on her U.S. concert tour last year or didn’t want to buy exorbitantly priced tickets to see her again found an out-of-the-way solution: Fly to Europe.

A concert might sound like an odd raison d’etre for visiting a foreign country, especially when fans can watch the Eras Tour from home via the documentary now streaming on Disney+. Yet online travel company Expedia says continent-hopping by Swift’s devotees is part of a larger trend it dubbed “tour tourism” while observing a pattern that emerged during Beyoncé’s Renaissance world tour.

Some North American fans who plan to fly overseas for the Eras Tour said they justified the expense after noticing that tighter restrictions on ticket fees and resales in Europe made seeing Swift perform abroad no more costly — and potentially cheaper — than catching her closer to home.

“They said, ‘Wait a minute, I can either spend $1,500 to go see my favorite artist in Miami, or I can take that $1,500 and buy a concert ticket, a round-trip plane ticket, and three nights in a hotel room,’” said Melanie Fish, an Expedia spokesperson and travel expert.

Travel and entertainment analysts have spoken of a pent-up consumer demand for “experiences” over material objects since the coronavirus pandemic.

As Swift hopscotches across Europe, Lechmanova expects restaurants and hotels to see the same boost that Mastercard observed within a 2½-mile radius of concert venues in the U.S. cities she visited in 2023. The U.S. dollar’s strong value against the euro may also increase retail spending on apparel, memorabilia, beauty products and supplies for the friendship bracelets fans exchange as part of the Eras Tour experience, the economist said.

Former college roommates Lizzy Hale, 34, who lives in Los Angeles, and Mitch Goulding, 33, who lives in Austin, Texas, already had tickets to see the Eras Tour in L.A. last summer when they decided to try to get ones for Paris, London or Edinburgh, Scotland.

“As people who enjoy traveling and enjoy music, if you can find an opportunity to combine the two, it’s really special,” Hale said.

FOR STOCKHOLM, 120,000 SWIFTIES CAN’T BE WRONG

In Stockholm, 120,000 out-of-towners from 130 countries — among them 10,000 from the U.S.

Houston resident Caroline Matlock, 29, is making friendship bracelets and trying to learn a few words of Swedish as she prepares to see the 3½-hour show in Stockholm. Also on the itinerary: visiting the Scandinavian cities of Oslo and Gothenburg.

It remains to be seen if the music tourism trend has legs as long and strong as Swift’s and Beyoncé’s, and if it will carry over to Billie Eilish, Usher and other artists with world tours scheduled next year.

AP journalists Colleen Barry in Milan, Chisato Tanaka in Stockholm, Anne D’Innocenzio in New York, David Koenig in Dallas, Thomas Adamson in Paris and Brian Melley in London contributed reporting.

Taylor moves to Fearless era

We’ve arrived in the Fearless era!

I’ll admit Fearless is, still, my favourite album, and for those of us in our 30s, inextricably linked with the high school experience.

The album, which was first released in 2008, includes Taylor Swift teen romance classics such as Love Story and You Belong With Me, but also the deeply personal The Best Day, which is dedicated to Swift’s mother:

I don’t know who I’m gonna talk to now at school But I know I’m laughing On the car ride home with you

A re-recording, Fearless (Taylor’s Version), was released in 2021. It includes a really nice piano version of Forever & Always. Personally I’m a fan of Come In With The Rain, which was included in the new album.

Earlier in the Eras tour, Taylor sang Fearless, You Belong With Me and Love Story.

Fans are excited about the inclusion of The Tortured Poets Department tonight.

First setlist change

Swift is skipping The Archer, which earlier had been included in this part of the set. This would be the first major change to the tour
and will add to the anticipation that she will incorporate a new era for her recent album, the Tortured Poets Department. Stay tuned!

Taylor, on stage at Paris La DĂ©fense Arena, called the city romantic.

Taylor Swift gives sweet nod to Travis Kelce while performing ‘So High School’ during Eras Tour return in Paris

“Swag Surfin’ (Taylor’s version).”

Taylor Swift gave a romantic nod to Travis Kelce while performing “So High School” during her Eras Tour stop in Paris Thursday night.

While performing her newly released track, the singer did her own version of the Kansas City Chief’s signature dance to their anthem , “Swag Surfin'” by Fast Life Yungstaz.

A video obtained by Page Six showed Swift sitting on a staircase — appearing to represent stadium bleachers — alongside several background dancers as they synchronously swayed side to side and moved their hands like waves.

While bouncing, Swift sang, “It’s true, scouts honor / You knew what you wanted, and boy you got her.”

The track, which is a part of the hitmaker’s “The Tortured Poets Department” album, is seemingly about Kelce, 34, as Swift sings about an exciting teenage romance.

The 34-year-old singer also alluded to her whirlwind relationship in her track “The Alchemy” as she sings about football and winning streaks.

Swift was famously spotted performing the Chiefs’ embraced dance movement while attending her beau’s game against the Miami Dolphins at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium in January.

At the time, the “Cruel Summer” singer was seen grooving alongside her new BFF Brittany Mahomes and Travis’ mom, Donna Kelce.

The 14-time Grammy winner notably attended several of the tight end’s games since they made their romance public in September.

The two have proved to be each other’s biggest fans as Swift also supported Travis at the 2024 Super Bowl while he attended a few of the pop star’s Eras Tour stops .

Meanwhile, the NFL star was nowhere in sight as the “Love Story” singer took the stage in Paris to resume the international leg of her tour.

However, he ensured to hype his girlfriend as he wrote, “[Let’s f–king go]!!! đŸ™ŒđŸ»đŸ™ŒđŸ»,” in the comments section of Swift’s lead guitarist Paul Sidoti’s latest post, which showed him onstage alongside the pop sensation.

A college is hosting a sold-out Taylor Swift masterclass for parents ahead of the star's UK tour

 • A UK college is running a crash course on all things Taylor Swift ahead of her UK tour.
 • The one-day course is aimed at parents and plus ones of Swifties.
 • The college says the course will provide "the full Love Story on all things Eras Tour."

Insider Today

A college in Scotland is running a crash course on all things Taylor Swift ahead of the pop star's UK leg of her Eras Tour .

The one-day course held by Glasgow Clyde College is aimed at parents and plus-ones of Swifties set to attend the singer's three-night stopover in Edinburgh.

The college says the course will provide "the full Love Story on all things Eras Tour to help them have the best night of their lives."

"From set lists and crowd chants to need-to-know information on each Era, the course, which is being delivered by a Taylor Swift expert, will give members of the public a whistle-stop lesson that'll leave them ready for the gig," the college says on its website.

The Eras Tour, which has already become the highest-grossing tour of all time, pays tribute to Swift's first 10 studio albums and the unique styles and staging that accompanied them.

The release of the singer's 11th studio album, "The Tortured Poets Department," in April could mean that the setlist will change from previous legs of the tour, however — but the college seems likely to have that covered.

Glasgow Clyde College assistant principal Robert Anderson told local media outlet The Scotsman : "Taylor mania doesn't seem to be slowing anytime soon, and we expect it'll reach its peak here in Scotland in June. We understand that not everyone will be up to speed on all things Taylor and might not get the full Eras experience," he said.

Related stories

"That's why we created this masterclass - to prepare those who'll be heading along to the gig with their superfan kids, friends or partners to ensure they have just as memorable a time," he continued. "Taylor's gigs are known for being so well crafted, and unless you're a fan yourself, you might miss some of the iconic moments."

The course is due to be held on May 7, one month before Swift kicks off her UK tour.

European cities could benefit from Swift's tour

Swift is taking her Eras Tour to 18 European cities this summer , and many are hoping Swifties will splash the cash as they arrive.

The tour has already boosted the US, Singaporean, and Australian economies, with eager fans spending big on things like travel, accommodation, and merchandise.

While the UK and the rest of Europe have yet to feel the full effect of Swift's presence, the price of hotels and short-term rental homes across Scotland have shot up as opportunistic hoteliers and rental hosts have sought to take advantage of increased demand for accommodation.

Around 200,000 people are expected to attend across the star's three performances at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.

Marc Crothall, chief executive of the Scottish Tourism Alliance, told Business Insider that there would be a "ripple effect" from the shows that will be felt across Scotland.

"We're a small country. It's important that those who are coming from further afield, don't just go straight back to where they came from," he said, adding that they would hopefully go and visit some other parts of Scotland.
