AUTO CANCEL FUNCTION (FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION)

HINT : If a system malfunction occurs, the applicable DTCs will appear on the multi-information display. In some cases, a DTC will be set due to weather or vehicle operating conditions, this does not indicate a system malfunction.

  •  E3 (in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode and constant speed control mode): The auto cancel function deletes the stored vehicle speed and cancels the cruise control operation when:
  •  The vehicle speed signal malfunctions.
  • The electronic throttle parts malfunction.
  • The stop light switch has an open or short circuit.

If the auto cancel function operates, the warning sound "pong" is emitted once. In addition, the following warnings will continue until the cruise control main switch is turned off:

  •  The CRUISE main indicator light blinks.
  •  The master warning light illuminates.
  •  The display shows "E3".

The cruise control operation will be suspended until the main switch is turned on again.

  •  E3 (in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode only):

AUTO CANCEL FUNCTION (FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION)

The auto cancel function deletes the stored vehicle speed and cancels the cruise control operation when:

  •  The laser sensor malfunctions.

The cruise control operation will be suspended until the ignition switch is turned off then on again.

  • E2 (in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode only):

AUTO CANCEL FUNCTION (FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION)

The auto cancel function maintains the stored vehicle speed and cancels the cruise control operation when:

  •  The wiper operates in the HI or LO mode.
  •  The shift pattern select switch is in the "SNOW" mode.
  •  The laser sensor receives strong light, such as sunlight, from the front side.
  •  The display shows "E2".

The cruise control operation will be suspended until either the canceling condition is resolved or the main switch is turned on again. When the canceling condition is resolved, it will be possible to resume the vehicle speed set prior to cancellation by pushing the cruise control main switch to + (ACCEL)/RES (RESUME).

  • E1 (in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode only):

AUTO CANCEL FUNCTION (FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION)

The auto cancel function maintains the stored vehicle speed and cancels the cruise control operation when the laser sensor has dirt on it.

  •  The display shows "E1".
  • Other auto cancel function (in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode and constant speed control mode):

AUTO CANCEL FUNCTION (FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION)

  •  The vehicle speed drops below approximately 40 km/h (25 mph).
  •  The VSC operates.

If the auto cancel function operates, the CRUISE main indicator light remains on. The cruise control operation will be suspended until the canceling condition is resolved. When the canceling condition is resolved, it will be possible to resume the vehicle speed set prior to cancellation by pushing the cruise control main switch to + (ACCEL)/RES (RESUME).

  • Other auto cancel function (in constant speed control mode only):

AUTO CANCEL FUNCTION (FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION)

The auto cancel function deletes the stored vehicle speed and cancels the cruise control operation when the vehicle speed drops 16 km/h (10 mph) below the stored vehicle speed.

If the auto cancel function operates, the CRUISE main indicator light remains on. The cruise control operation will be suspended until the canceling condition is resolved. When the canceling condition is resolved, it will be possible to set the vehicle speed by pushing the cruise control main switch to - (COAST)/SET.

Cruise Control Troubleshooting

  • Add to quote

Hello, I am a new member and just bought a used 2004 Corolla LE. The car works great except for the Cruise. It will not set. Is there a troubleshooting guide someone may have put together on the forum? I searched w/o any luck. If not where do I start? Thanks !! Wayne

When you say it does not set, do you mean the cruise shuts off, and the light goes out, or it does not keep the speed? Are you auto or manual? Check the actuator under the hood and clean the connections, also check fuses, the 3 brake lights, and brake fluid. Do you have any check engine lights on? Also, check a switch up on the break pedal that disables the cruise control, maybe that switch is unplugged or bent.

i am having the same problem for almost 2 years. i am in a manual 03 S. mine turns on and the light comes on but wont set. i checked all the connections (that i believe of) and i cant get it to work.

With the manual, you cannot have any pressure at all when you try to set the cruise. Try this it is worth a shot, hold the back of the clutch pedal with your foot then try to set the cruise. Any normal road vibration it will deactivate the cruise, for some reason, the clutch and CC is really sensitive. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b40/webby242424/fuselocations.jpg Check 19, 22, 29. I doubt that they are bad, but it will help to eliminate them. If you cannot find a problem, it is likely the clutch switch or the brake switch for the CC. Look at the top of the clutch and brake pedals for the switch, and see if anything is broken/loose. Just in case no one knows how to use CC: Press button in on stalk - observe green light. Tap stalk down to set speed. Tap up or down to adjust set speed. Pull stalk toward you to cancel. Must be about 25 mph to work.

Thanks for the suggestions. The car has an auto trans. Also I do not have any check engine light on. Let me clarify - I am not even able to get the green light to come on. Tonight I will do the following and let you know the results: Check the wiring connections at the cruise module, check the switch and connections on the brake pedal, check the fuses, 3rd brake light, fluid level

Let us know, do you hear a click when you press the cruise button? If all of the stuff you checked is ok, it could be something as simple as the button.

Just a suggestion, but maybe it is the CC control itself. They are very easy to change, and cost about $55, if you buy it somewhere other that from Toyota. If I recall correctly, it has an AC Delco part number. (I recently added CC to my 07 CE)

For the owners of 2003-2004 cars, you should have a cruise control cable that connects to the throttle body. It's possible that the cable has broken, or somehow become disconnected from the throttle body (or cruise module). 2005-2008 cars don't have that -- the throttle is Drive-By-Wire (DBW), so there are no cables, and the ECU operates the cruise control through the DBW system.

i checked all the fuses and they are fine. brake fluid is good also. Does anyone know where the cruise control actuator is located?

if you just bought the car recently I am sure you have warrnaty on it, unless u bought it privately save urself the money and headaches and take it back to where u got it from and tell them to fix it I am sure you and less than 2 weeks grace period

Last night I did the following: Mechanically checked the brake pedal switch to see if it was operating properly, checked the third brake light checked all of the wiring harness at the CC Module checked brake fluid. pulled the pedal back while driving ( above 25 MPH) and tried to get the CC green light to come on. - still no good. I did not check the fuses - which one is for the cruise? Wayne

Deactivating Laser Cruise Control

  • Add to quote

I'm starting a 20,000 mile road trip in my 2006 Sienna, but I have an issue with my cruise control. After an accident, it gives me an E3 error anytime that I try to activate the cruise control. Reading here and on other websites, it seems like that is telling me that the laser adjustment system needs to be replaced / recalibrated. I don't have $2000 to spend on that. The thing is that I've lived my whole life without having a computer automatically slow down my car, and I can live without it now. Is there a way to unhook or deactivate the "smart" laser system and just have my cruise control function in "dumb" mode where it just maintains a speed? If not, what is the best route to get an aftermarket cruise control installed? I called a lot of local repair shops and they all told me to go talk to the dealer.

When you first press the button to turn on the cruise control, and before trying to set it, push the lever forward. The cruise light on the dash should illuminate the word "normal". In this mode, the cruise should function as a standard cruise control without the laser. The E3 error happens to me a lot when driving straight into the sun. I think it means the laser isn't seing its reflection. Have you tried a repair under warranty? Was the vehicle repaired after the accident, and the laser not repaired properly?

I'll test that out on my way home from work. Hopefully that's all that needs to happen! The vehicle was repaired after the accident, but they didn't catch the broken cruise control, but when we tried to have it repaired later, the insurance company claimed that there was no way to prove that it wasn't broken after the accident.

I tried pushing it forwards, backwards and every direction that I could, but nothing affected the display except pushing the on button that still gives me the E3 message.

When you first turn on the cruise by pushing the button, you must then push the lever forward towards the dash and hold it forward for 2 or 3 seconds. this changes the mode to function as a normal cruise. The dash will light up the word "Norm." Then set the speed as you typically would. I drove 120 miles today and did this several times.

I must have a deeper problem then, because no matter how long I held it, it still didn't show 'Normal' or make it so that I could use my cruise control.

yeah, you must have another issue. I have noticed that when I push the on button to activate the cruise, I must press forward to change the mode before doing anything else. For example, lets say I'm driving straight into the sun and I press the cruise on button, I then try to set the speed. I then get an E3 error because I'm straight at the sun. I cannot now decide to change the mode to normal because I've already tried to set the cruise. I must then press the on button to turn it off, then again to turn it back on, and before attempting to set it, press it forward to change the mode.

Hi Sienna guy... Thanks. I also need to figure out where the sensor is so I can clean it... As it is impeded by rain, Sun, and salt smears I suppose.

Ploobers said: I tried pushing it forwards, backwards and every direction that I could, but nothing affected the display except pushing the on button that still gives me the E3 message. Click to expand...

I finally figured it out. When I go to turn on the cruise control while I'm driving, it tries to communicate with the laser and throws the whole cruise control into lockdown. If I turn it on while I'm stopped, or even while I'm going really slowly, and then change it to normal mode like has been suggested, I can use it just fine. It's not a perfect solution, but not a bad one. It just means that half the time when I get on the freeway, I have to pull over and stop so that I can activate the cruise control before starting again. Thanks for all of your help and suggestions!

I haven't climbed under the front bumper to look at mine, but have you checked to see if it's something simple like a wiring harness that came unplugged on the back of the laser assembly? Maybe its something simple?

I bought an 05 last winter and had the dreaded E3 error as well. I have learned that you can only switch to normal cruise when the van is not moving. If you try to switch when moving the E3 code comes on immediately and you then have to turn off the van to try again. To turn it on all I do is press the button and move the lever towards the dashboard and hold it there for a second or two.

Does anyone know if the laser cruise control can be converted to normal cruise control. like the one on the XLE or LE models. I have tired unplugging the laser and even pulled the steering wheel apart so see if there was a way to bypass the laser, but to no avail.

All vehicles with LCC have rthe normal=cruise mode in there built in as well. You have to switch on the stalk and push it away form the steering wheel and the normal cruise control will kick in and then you can set it as you please.... Hope this helps... Javvy

How to use Adaptive Cruise Control on Toyota Sienna

With some minor differences, operating the available Dynamic Radar Cruise Control system is very similar to conventional cruise control. However, when the system detects slower traffic ahead, it will slow the Sienna automatically to match their speed and maintain a preset distance.

toyota sienna cruise control e1 error

You can change that distance using a button on the steering wheel. When activated, the system defaults to the long setting. A display in the instrument cluster indicates which distance has been selected. Pressing the button repeatedly allows you to cycle through the three distances available.

The driver can disable the distance holding feature by pressing and holding the cruise control stalk forward for at least two seconds. The Ready Indicator and distance graphic will disappear in the instrument cluster.

Auto cancel below 25 mph

The vehicle-to-vehicle distance control feature will be automatically canceled when the vehicle falls below 25 miles per hour, Vehicle Stability Control, or VSC, is activated, the sensor is covered or blocked, the brake is applied, or the windshield wipers are running continuously.

Adaptive cruise control supplements conventional cruise control with an active vehicle-to-vehicle distance control feature. Designed for use on freeways and express ways, in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode, your car automatically accelerates or decelerates in order to maintain a preset following distance from the vehicle traveling directly ahead of you.

To activate the system, press the "ON/OFF" button at the end of the stalk on the lower end of the right side of the steering wheel. The radar-ready indicator will appear in the Multi Information Display.

Accelerate or decelerate to your intended speed, then press the stalk down to set it. If you want to go faster, push the stalk upward and hold until you've reached the desired speed and then release it. Or, if you want to slow down, push the stalk down and hold as you decelerate, then release it once you've reached the desired speed.

To cancel cruise control, tap the brakes, pull the stalk towards you or turn the system off with the ON/OFF button.

Adaptive Cruise Control was designed to maintain the preset distance between your car and the car driving in the same lane directly ahead of you.

When it’s active, it automatically adjusts for changes in the speed of the vehicle traveling directly ahead of you in order to maintain the vehicle-to-vehicle distance you set.

In the event that you would like to change the preset distance between vehicles, you can do so by using the radar range button located on the lower right side of the steering wheel. Simply press the button repeatedly to cycle through the ranges available. You'll find them displayed on the Multi Information Display. And finally, you can disable the distance holding feature by pushing the cruise control stalk away and holding it until the indicator disappears and the conventional cruise control indicator lights up.

Apartment Buildings

Famed for its palaces and museums and thoroughly imbued with an air of past glories, St. Petersburg is, in broad historical terms, a very modern city. Its development coincided with the general European trend for urbanization and the adoption of the apartment as the main style of accommodation for city dwellers. By the mid-19th century, only a tiny percentage of the population at the very top of the social ladder could afford to live in private houses, and the vast majority of Petersburgers were moving to rented accommodation in apartment buildings.

The "dokhodny dom" (tenement building) was not only the easiest way to accommodate the city's rapidly growing population, it was also an attractive investment for St. Petersburg's wealthy merchants and industrialists, and even for many members of the aristocracy. Apartment buildings, usually of four or five stories and with a small inner courtyard, began to spring up throughout the historic centre, bearing the names of the prominent citizens who had commissioned them.

The owners would often have their commercial premises and their own apartments on the lower floors of the building, with the second floor traditionally occupied by the most luxurious living quarters, and apartments decreasing in size and splendor the higher the floor.

As for many owners the apartment building would be their own home as well as a business project, they were generally willing to spend lavishly on decoration and design. There are numerous masterpieces of eclectic, revival, Art Nouveau and Russian Neo-classical architecture among the St. Petersburg apartment buildings of the late-19th and early 20th centuries. Sources of architects' inspiration ranged from classical temples to Venetian palaces and medieval castles, and in some cases the elaborate decorations became synonymous with the buildings themselves, so that names like "the house with towers" or "the house with owls" have an almost official status in local nomenclature.

The grand era of apartment houses in St. Petersburg came to an abrupt end with the October Revolution. With the honorable exception of a few ground-breaking constructivist housing projects of the late 1920s and a handful of neighborhoods that benefited from the Stalinist construction boom of the 1950s, the main Soviet solutions to the housing problem were to first slice up the palaces, mansions and grand lodgings of the pre-Revolutionary elite into cramped communal apartments, and later to throw up the endless rows of monotonous prefabricated blocks that comprise most of St. Petersburg's dormitory regions.

Nonetheless, it is the comparative lack of 20th century construction projects that has allowed St. Petersburg to retain the historic aspect of the city centre like a museum of the pre-Revolutionary era, a fact recognized by UNESCO's decision to designate the whole area a world heritage site in 1990. While many of St. Petersburg's historic buildings have been shockingly abused and neglected over the last century, the sense of living amongst the decaying grandeur of a past civilization has an insidious charm that seduces locals and visitors alike. In this respect, St. Petersburg truly is the "Venice of the North", and nowhere is the juxtaposition of modern living and the social order and design of the past more tangibly experienced than in the city's grand historic apartment buildings.

• The Throne room is the most spacious one, designed for receptions, balls and concerts, with an overall area of 330 sq.m. Originally this hall shone in its splendor, but in 1777 it was decorated in a classic and more modest style under the project of Yury Felten

• The Audience room was intended for small receptions of the Empress Elizabeth. The design was done by Rastrelli and became one of the best works of the architect.

“According to a legend, Elizabeth ordered Rastrelli to use as much gold in the room design as possible, because the apartment was used for the reception of noble merchants representatives, who, in the opinion of the Empress, admired gold”

• In the eighteenth century The Dance hall was known as The Merchants hall and its spacious area of 270 sq.m. occupied most of the Western half of the Grand Peterhof Palace. The windows are arranged in two tiers here and numerous mirrors and paintings are used as decorations. Parquet is made of dark and light oak, maple and walnut. According to a legend, Elizabeth ordered Rastrelli to use as much gold in the room design as possible, because the apartment was used for the reception of noble merchants representatives, who, in the opinion of the Empress, admired gold.

• White dining room was meant for festive meals and was originally designed by Bartolomeo Rastrelli. In 1774 – 1775, Yuri Felten significantly changed the hall – the new style was the complete opposite of the previous one. Instead of the gloss of gold the interior was decorated in strict classical canons. In the center of the room there is a huge table, covered with a white tablecloth and a 30 persons porcelain set, created by the famous English master Josiah Wedgwood.

• The Painting hall is the oldest one: it was designed during the life of Peter I. It is decorated with tapestries by French masters and 16 paintings by Italian artists. Originally Nicolo Michetti and Jean-Baptiste Leblond took part in creation of the room design, but later, in the middle of the XVIII century, the hall was changed by the project of Rastrelli.

The Throne Room

Ceremonial halls are followed by the rooms of the private half, which was accessible only to a circle of confidants. It housed bedrooms, private offices and salons, designed again by Bartolomeo Rastrelli. The abundance of gilding, mirrors and paintings, suspended symmetrical arches with plafond paintings and parquet floors made of precious wood – all these details create a festive atmosphere.

Currently, the Grand Peterhof Palace is a unique Museum of history and art, whose contains about three and a half thousand exhibits, including paintings and porcelain, fabrics, unique furniture and personal belongings of the Russian rulers.
