Their trips often take place off the beaten path. So not only will you find yourself in the midst of untouched countrysides and mountainscapes, but you’ll discover hidden gems along the way.

Casually ride through the picturesque town of Grazalema and try some local cabernet on a Trek Travel Spain tour. Or challenge yourself to climb legendary alps, such as Alpe d’Huez and Galibier on one of Trek Travel’s tours in France.

Trek Travel Style

Although they are known for biking, they offer so much more than just a cycling vacation. Itineraries offer plenty of activity options every day if you want to have a day off your bike. Cultural and culinary related activities are offered such as wine tasting, pizza making, and historic walking tours. If you enjoy being active, choose from activities like sailing and kayaking.

All breakfasts are included so you’ll have the energy needed to cycle all day. After a long day of riding you are treated to cocktails, dinner, and comfortable accommodation.

Accommodations are categorized either by explorer or luxury. With explorer, you’ll be placed in casual 3-star boutique hotels. The amenities may be simple, but you’ll still get incredible views, delicious cuisine, and the utmost relaxation.

If you prefer the luxury option, expect handpicked 4-star accommodations that include signature spa treatments and Michelin-starred restaurants. Imagine resting in a historic hotel nestled deep in the woods of the Tramuntana Mountains on a tour to Spain with Trek Travel.

biking race in the mountains

Every tour with Trek Travel  is categorized by different “rider types”:

Leisure: You are relatively fit but don’t want to ride everyday of your vacation. You’d like to balance cycling with exploration and relaxation time. Expect slight inclines and roughly 1-2 hours of riding.

Recreational : You bike on a somewhat regular basis - maybe to work, for fun on the weekends, or for fitness. Expect steep rollers and short mountains. You’ll ride for roughly 2-3 hours per day.

Active : You bike regularly for a few hours on a weekly basis. If fitness is a big part of your life and you like a good challenge, you’ll fit right into the active level tours. You’ll climb hills,  mountains, and everything in between for 3-4 hours per day.

Avid : You ride 100 miles per week and enjoy riding at a fast pace for long hours. Perhaps you regularly train or race. If you believe no road is too steep, and no route is too long, then these trips are made for you.

Why Choose a Tour with Trek Travel?

  • Guaranteed dates and trip prices *for most trips - some special trips need more people to run
  • Offline gps map, itinerary, and guide and hotel contacts on your phone

Trekking America - Small Group Treks

Trekking holidays America have never been more popular. The vast wilderness of the national parks offer so many routes and spectacular views along the way, it's a dream for many.

Some treks of course are very famous such as the John Muir Trail and the Pacific Northwest Trail to name but two, there are of course many more.

Top 10 Treks In America

Here are the top 10 trekking and hiking holidays in the us:, john muir trail - 23 days, pacific northwest trail - 8 days, san fran to vegas: parks, canyons, valleys - 9 days, grand alaska camping - 12 days, deserts and canyons of the southwest - 14 days, grand canyon and rocky mountain trails - 15 days, walking the western us national parks - 10 days, yellowstone wildlife trails - hotels - 12 days, hiking utah's big 5 - 9 days, hiking sequoia, kings canyon, and yosemite - 8 days, who goes on the treks.

All of our US treks are small groups and guided. Groups are usually made up of around 10 people with typically equal mix of gender.

Usually around half of any group are solo travellers and the other half couples or friends.

Ages range from early twenties to over seventy but the average age is typically 39 ish.

The type of people who enjoy these trips really varies, we find the most important factor is the desire to be in the wild, away from city life and general life drama.

If you're interested in any departure date we can find out the make up of the group for you, just make contact with us by phone, chat or email:)

How Fit Do I Need To Be?

Each trek has a physical rating form 1 to 5. 1 is low meaning you don't really need to be fit at all where as 5 is challenging and we're recommend some training and an average fitness level.

Most of the US treks fall between 2 to 4, so quite easy to quite tough. In all cases we think it is a good idea to do even a little bit of training such as long walks with aback pack and if you're getting new walking shoes, get them early and break them in!

I Am A Solo Traveller

Don't worry, at least half of our customers overall are also solo travellers and our tours and holidays are designed with solo travellers in mind. We know it can be daunting if you're a solo traveller or of course it's your first time travelling alone. All of our team have travelled alone and we're very happy to talk you through it.

Usually about half of any group is made up of solo travellers. We pair solo travellers together of the same gender and age (where we can) to share a room which keeps costs down.

You can of course opt for your won room on most treks and adventures usually for a little extra.

Each trek is guided and the guide is there to make sure everyone is happy and safe. If you have a problem maybe with gear, your room mate, food etc the guide will be able to help and can usually fix any problems that arise!

Is Vegetarian Food Available?

Yes. All tours have  vegetarian options.

Is Wifi Available?

Not always. This depends upon where you are, which net work you're with etc...

What Gear Do I Need?

Each trek has a brochure you can download which includes a 'what to pack' list as each trek is different.

However, there are some essentials you may require:

- Good trekking shoes

- Light weight shorts and trousers

- Sun cream

- Sunglasses

- Insect Repellent

- Waterproofs

- Water Bottle

Certified Great Place to Work We think working at Trek is pretty awesome. But don’t take our word for it! Trek made Fortune Magazine’s 2020 Best Places to Work in Retail, and according to our annual Great Place to Work survey, 90% of employees at Trek say it’s a great place to work compared to 59% of employees at a typical US-based company.

  • See Great Place to Work results

Multiple brands. Endless opportunities.

Born and raised in the humble surf community of Leucadia, California, Electra combines creativity, innovation, design, and attention to detail to make the most comfortable bikes possible.

BCycle is a public bike sharing system that enhances cities' transportation ecosystems and helps reduce carbon emissions and congestion by providing a sustainable, affordable transportation option.

Ascend is a retail profit machine built for bike shops. Retailers worldwide use our products and services to easily set, measure, and track goals and performance while continually forecasting for the future.

It’s no secret that the best leaders have the happiest and most productive employees. We built a masterclass in leadership to help all Trek employees become better versions of themselves and create a culture of continuous improvement, empathetic support, and healthy team dynamics.

Leaders with humility don't work hard to get credit, they work hard because they care. They're never boastful, always grateful, and forever willing to learn and grow.

To lead with will is to be driven by desire and determination. Willful leaders are always ready to roll up their sleeves and put in work in order to achieve exemplary results.

Best team on the field

Hiring the right people is about more than just technical fit—we want people on our team who show up every day with empathy, kindness, and care.

Iconic leaders aren't satisfied with the status quo. They're constantly looking for bigger, better, and bolder ways to do things.

Let’s work together to make the world better Have a cause you’re passionate about? We’ll support you any way we can. Whether you need extra funding, paid time off, or another set of eager hands, we’re always happy to help.

Local grants

We established a local grant program to provide funding for projects that help get more people on bikes. If you or someone you know needs some seed money to start a bike shop or enhance your community in any way, reach out to us at [email protected]

Volunteer PTO

All Trek employees have access to paid time off to volunteer for non-profits that help build our communities, so whether you want to spend the day volunteering at the polls, working at a food bank, or empowering our youth, we’ll support you every step of the way.

Employee profile: Tati Koufopanteli, LIFE Camp

In the summer of 2020, Trek store manager Tati Koufopantaeli was looking for ways to get more involved with the youth in her community. With Trek’s support, she partnered with a non-profit called Life Camp to help get kids from underserved communities involved in cycling. Over eight weeks, the program gives students mentorship and training to enter the workforce—and all students who complete the program are guaranteed a position with Trek. Now, with Tati’s help, we’re expanding this program to more communities across the country.

Employee profile: Chad Wolfe, Taco Trek Ride

Chad Wolfe was looking for ways to unite the cyclists in his community. The manager of Trek’s Johnson City location, Chad wanted to create a group ride that appealed to everyone—old-school roadies, trike-pushing toddlers, brand-new mountain bikers, you name it. And so, the Taco Trek Ride was born. Trek supports Chad with marketing materials to help him reach even more riders, and we invite his insight on enacting similar events at Trek stores around the world.

Trek’s not-so-basic benefits Sure—offering a 401k isn’t revolutionary. But creating a great environment for our employees has long been a company value at Trek. We’re always looking for ways to improve our employees’ home and work lives, and we expand what’s available to them every year. From rare benefits like ESOP and paid time off for volunteer work to expanded healthcare coverage, we do our best to take care of everyone who works at Trek.

Tuition reimbursement

Wanna better yourself? Say no more. We offer an Educational Assistance Program that covers up to 75% of the cost of approved college or business-related courses. If you want to take classes, attend seminars, or work toward an advanced degree, we’ll do whatever it takes to make that an easy and accessible choice.

We want to help you build a secure financial future. That’s why we match up to 6% of all 401k contributions, and we provide financial planning resources to help you and your family live more comfortably.

Discounts on the world’s best bikes

You were waiting for this one, weren’t you? One of our most-loved benefits at Trek is a hefty discount on the world’s best bikes and gear. All Trek employees enjoy discounts on products from Trek and our many other brands.

Expanded healthcare coverage

We offer healthcare coverage to all employees working 20 hours or more, because healthy employees are happy employees. And we do our best to take care of everyone who works at Trek.

Mansion Hill Inn

We transformed a 19th-century mansion into the Midwest’s most beautiful bed and breakfast as part of our commitment to unforgettable hospitality. We always keep a few rooms open to house prospective employees from out of state, and we’ll go out of our way to ensure you enjoy your stay.

Employer-matched donations

In an effort to increase the impact of Trek employees, we match all employee financial contributions to accredited non-profits dedicated to social equity, youth development, and environmental sustainability.

Trek Scholarship Program

Our love for our employees extends to their families, too. Over the years, the Trek Scholarship Program has provided over $2 million in contributions to help provide secondary education for Trek families.

Employee Stock Ownership Program

Employees own the single largest percentage of Trek. All US employees are enrolled in our ESOP program after their first year, giving them a direct share in Trek's financial success.

Lunch ride, anyone? Humans aren’t meant to sit at a desk eight hours a day. Whatever part of the business you’re in, we encourage you to do things during your workday that help you feel your very best. Whether it’s a lunch ride with your coworkers, a mid-day walk, or weekly therapy, we’ll do whatever we can to support you and make sure you have the time and resources you need to thrive both mentally and physically.

Wellness perks

If you’re joining us at Trek HQ in Waterloo, you’ll enjoy an on-site gym complete with the world’s most wonderful fitness trainer, a café stocked with healthy, freshly made food, a full-time primary care clinic, massage therapists, mental health counselors, dieticians, athletic trainers—and that’s just the start of it. Not joining us in the ‘loo? You’ll still have access to virtual benefits, including workout classes, doctor appointments, counseling, and more.

Trek trails

We built 30-kilometers of world-class mountain bike trails in our own backyard to provide employees with a much-needed sanctuary during the workday. Now, riders of all skills levels gather at our private trails for lunch rides, product testing, late summer bonfires, and the kind of respite only the natural world can provide. No matter where in the world you work, as a Trek employee, you’re welcome to join us on the trails at any time.

Meet me at the Lodge

Some companies do break rooms a little differently than others. Ours is called The Lodge, and it’s located in the middle of Trek’s private mountain bike trails — a place to kick your feet up, grab a cold beverage, and enjoy the company of your coworkers after a couple epic laps. This LEED Certified respite is complete with pinball machines, a bar, and plenty of boardgames. The worst part about The Lodge? Leaving.

Join the club!

Bikes may be our primary focus, but we still dabble in ball-and-stick sports. We have various sports clubs at Waterloo HQ — from lacrosse to pickleball to hockey — and all employees are welcome to join. The only price of membership is great energy and maybe e a few high-fives. Lifting heavy things more your speed? We also have a CrossFit-certified box and climbing walls onsite.

Like every great relationship, we’re looking for something meaningful. Our success relies entirely on the quality of our people, and our process is admittedly deliberate so you can get a better picture of what you’re joining and we can get a full understanding of who we’re welcoming to Trek.

Step 1 Make the first move

Every amazing journey begins somewhere, and this one starts with you making the first move. Find a role that speaks to you, drop us your resume, and we’ll let you know if we’re ready to move on to the next step. Either way you’ll hear from us – because nobody likes to be ghosted.

Step 2 Get better acquainted

You like us. We like you back. The second step is an easy 30-minute call with one of our friendly recruiters so we can both get to know each other better. During this conversation, we’ll learn more about you and you’ll learn more about Trek and the opportunities and amenities we offer.

Step 3 Take things to the next level

The Hiring Manager interview is a one-on-one discussion with the manager you’d report to in your desired role. Be prepared to discuss your experience and provide us with a fuller picture of what you’ll bring to the table, because at this point, you’ve got a great shot.

Step 4 Meet the family

At this stage, you’ll speak with multiple people you’ll be working with on a daily basis. This step allows us to gauge your experience and talents from multiple perspectives and gives you a 360-degree view of the people you’ll interact with, the culture of the team, and the expectations of the role.

Step 5 First trip together

Things are getting serious! We’re people people, and we believe the best way to get to know each other is to sit down and have an old-fashioned face-to-face conversation. While not all interviews will end onsite, in many cases, candidates will travel and tour Trek headquarters, meet their hiring manager and team in person, and decide if this is the commitment we’re all looking for.

Step 6 Let’s make it official

We want you to become a part of the Trek team, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Our hiring manager and recruiter will reach out with the specifics. Welcome to Trek!

Things To Do

Travel | hike canaveral seashore’s klondike beach: a 13-mile trek along wild florida coastline.

Chris Stevens lands on top of a piece of driftwood on Klondike Beach in the backcountry of Canaveral National Seashore. (Patrick Connolly/Orlando Sentinel)

Booming waves crash one over another while pelicans fly overhead and shorebirds forage in the sand, comprising the kind of idyllic sunny beachside scene Florida is known for. Except this time, there aren’t people or high-rise condos for miles around.

This was the view during a 13-mile hike on Klondike Beach, the sandy stretch of Canaveral National Seashore that lies between Apollo Beach on the north end and Playalinda Beach on the south side. I was joined by Chris Stevens, a fellow explorer and outdoor writer for Florida Hikes who is known on Instagram (with his wife and family) as the Sunshine State Seekers .

It was Good Friday, and something felt almost biblical about our pilgrimage along the undeveloped seashore as we visited the church of nature and fully immersed ourselves in the wild Floridian coastline. At least we had the weather on our side, with high temperatures in the low 70s and a north wind at our backs the whole way.

I don’t know exactly when or how the idea hatched, but I had this hike on my radar for several years and finally found an ideal day and someone crazy enough to do it with me. My pack and gear kit for the day included 3 liters of water, an Arizona tea, a Publix sub, apples, a wide-brimmed straw hat, a sun shirt and hiking boots.

Adventurers who attempt this should be prepared with plenty of sun protection, food and water for hours in the open sun with no amenities. A $5 backcountry permit (available at either ranger station) is required to venture past Apollo Beach lot 5 and Playalinda Beach lot 13.

We set off southward just after 7 a.m. from the end of the road at Apollo Beach, catching a magnificent sunrise with an amber horizon and whispy clouds over the Atlantic as a bright half-moon shone above the Mosquito Lagoon. We first took a turn onto a section of trail or access road on the lagoon side, which continued for several miles as we observed vibrant sea grape leaves, bright red sea beans, white moonflowers in bloom, the occasional prickly pear cactus and mangrove forests. On both sides of the trail, we were flanked by lush green vegetation and saw palmettos.

Eventually, the trail lets out at the beach, which covers about 2/3 of the hike (or you can take the beach the whole way). A note on the Canaveral National Seashore website advertises that crossing protected dunes is unlawful, so be sure to contact a ranger for the best guidance on where to hike and where to avoid.

It’s remarkable to see so much sand and sea without any humans. Small crabs poked their heads out of the sand, curious but cautious at the sight of visitors.

Away from the development of New Smyrna Beach and Titusville, Chris realized there was nothing between us and Africa but the vast ocean (unless you were to stop in Bermuda). We were engulfed by the natural Florida coastline with no reminders of civilization — except for trash and debris that had washed up with the tide, a consistent sight for most of the hike.

I packed grabbers (which Chris graciously agreed to carry), but we ultimately decided that it would be too energy-intensive to walk on sand for 13 miles with heavy bags of trash. However, we picked up a few stray balloons and pieces of litter that traveled with us into the trash can at the end of the hike.

We soon stumbled upon a small shack along the beach labeled as a biological field station. I imagined it would be used by scientists conducting wildlife research for breaks and storage. We welcomed the chance to stop on its small porch for an early lunch and a snack.

A few volunteers on ATVs, likely conducting sea turtle nesting surveys, seemed surprised to see any other human life out there. Those chance encounters made us believe this hike isn’t something people do very often.

An odd, ambiguous piece of debris suggests either a buoy or an item related to space travel during a hike on Klondike Beach in the backcountry of Canaveral National Seashore on March 29, 2024. (Patrick Connolly/Orlando Sentinel)

As we meandered onward, we stopped to look at odd pieces of washed-up debris, including large buoys and one ambiguous piece that could have been either maritime or space-related. At one point, we witnessed a trio of roseate spoonbills soaring over on the lagoon side, and pelican flyovers continued as the afternoon approached.

As we resumed our trek southward, closing in on the final quarter of our remaining mileage, NASA’s Vehicle Assembly Building came into view on the hazy horizon. As my mind wandered, I thought of Doris Leeper, a longtime resident of New Smyrna Beach and artist who was instrumental in creating Canaveral National Seashore in 1975.

With the risk of widespread development along the seashore, Leeper fought to preserve the land around her home alongside the Mosquito Lagoon, where she lived with her two Great Danes and created art.

While enjoying the serene scenery unencumbered by beachfront properties and crowds, I also thought about the Indigenous people who first inhabited this stretch of coastline up to 14,000 years ago and the Timucuan people who lived in harmony with the natural landscape for centuries before Europeans ever set foot in Florida.

Within the last few miles of our hike, a ranger pulled up on his ATV and stopped, saying, “I’ve been following your tracks for a long time.”

He asked if we needed any water, but we came prepared for hours outside, although I admitted that we might have a few screws loose for attempting such an endeavor. This wasn’t the kind of outing most normal people decide to do.

As we approached Playalinda’s Beach 13, preparing for the sight of nude sunbathers, we found a congregation of pelicans, flamingoes, gulls and terns gathered on the shore of the lagoon with cormorants perched in the background. We were mindful of our distance but curious to get closer and join in the social affair.

In concluding our hike, I replaced the lens cap on my camera as we began to pass sunbathers in their natural state. We clothed hikers were the ones who looked out of place, gathering curious glances from people inevitably wondering, “Where the heck did they come from?”

After 6 1/2 hours in the sun, Chris and I were delighted to see his wife, Chelsey, and their infant son, who arrived to pick us up from the parking lot. We rushed to Playalinda Brewing Company in Titusville for sandwiches and beer, the most welcome treats after a long day of hiking.

Ultimately, this adventure represented a challenging but beautiful immersion in the wild Florida coastline, one that I won’t soon forget.
