Undercover Tourist Demanding I Share Photo of Drivers License or Passport with Plaid Verification

Tried to buy a single ticket at Undercover Tourist and came across a hurdle I've never seen before. UCT would not take my order until I go through an identity verification process with a company called Plaid who wants me to send them a photo of a drivers license or passport or similar ID. I never heard of Plaid before. My initial research turns up a bunch of testimonials from financial industry sites claiming Plaid is wonderful and trustworthy, but also articles about settling a class action for misuse of personal data and negative articles from the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) who do a lot to protect and advocate for personal privacy online. I don't see why I need to do this to buy a park ticket and I don't trust Plaid and I'm not pleased with UCT right now for trying to push me to do this. The page where Plaid wants me to upload does not even link to their privacy policy or anything which is really poor design, and as noted, my research has not instilled confidence Has anyone experienced this barrier with UCT before where they demand you verify your identity? I'm ordering, or trying to order, just one ticket. It's not like I'm ordering 20 and maybe looking to broker them or whatever. I cannot find anything searching here or other Disney forums or generally around the web. I can guess something might be triggered because it's a new credit card, but usually the card issuer handles verification via text, phone or their app.

Doesn't hurt to be suspicious/careful. Rather than deal with this nonsense I'd just buy direct from Disney. For one ticket is the discount even worth it? (I seriously am asking, I thought it was only a few dollars savings buying from UCT.)

You had mentioned you were going to save 6% by getting all your tickets through UCT, right? I'm thinking "no such thing as a free lunch," and giving Plaid your info sounds like is the price you pay. On the one hand, lots of people use UCT and so that tells me it's probably ok. On the other, I've become very conscious of my digital footprint and wary when services demand personal information when I feel it's not warranted. Especially given the customer support response, I would just go direct with Disney and keep the peace of mind.

I think UCT is a reputable business. But I don't know the same about Plaid (about whom I'm really not sure) and I don't like how UCT handled this. I get that something in my transaction triggered the verification process, and I respect that, even though I'm not sure what it was. But as I noted above I didn't like their response to my inquiry, which gave the impression they're treating me not as an honest customer who accidentally triggered their algorithm, but as a probable scammer or at best, an annoyance who didn't just do what I was told. Which raises the first thing that about this that bothers me. When I was doing the transaction and was told I need to verify, it felt a lot like social engineering. First they asked for the billing address on the credit card. OK, that's normal and fine. Then they wanted a mobile phone number and had me input back a code they texted to me. Also normal and fine. Then they say upload a copy of sensitive government ID. Wait, what? I'm required to take annual online security threat training at work, and this is how fraudsters operate. They manipulate you into feeling comfortable and then getting you to hand over private info. I don't think UCT is a fraudster, but I'm not reassured to see them manipulating me the same way. Before asking for the ID upload there should have been a step where they acknowledge that they realize they're asking for very sensitive info and doing so through a third-party I never heard of but here's why it's necessary and why you can trust this. But they don't want to do that because it might trigger more people to stop and be wary. I think they hope you just hand over the info and upload the image of the ID so they both get their verification and finish the sale. I prefer to be treated as an autonomous individual who needs to make these decisions with full disclosure. They don't trust me? OK. I don't trust them, and especially not Plaid.

Just to put a bow on this and end it, I also posted and searched for info about this over at the DIS, where I learned that UCT has been doing these verifications on some subset of customers for many years, though nobody outside of UCT knows what factors can trigger the requirement. The use of Plaid to handle the verification is new. In prior years UCT asked people to fax and later email a photo of their official ID directly to UCT for verification, and for a brief while they asked for a photo of the purchaser holding the credit card, which freaked people out and they rather quickly moved away from that. UCT even came in and explained themselves in at least one old thread, and it's very clear that UCT sees this as an absolutely necessary fraud prevention tool. It is also just as clear that a lot of the people asked to verify themselves find essentially any of the methods unreasonably intrusive. Another recurring theme is that UCT has a very solid reputation for stellar customer service, yet a large number of the people asked for verification feel they were treated rudely when discussing the issue. I too believe their response to my communication offered no courtesy or respect for my concerns. UCT should be able to stand firm on their policy without insulting the people caught in their algorithm, but seems to be incapable of doing so. Personally the matter for me is closed. I bought elsewhere, and I won't ever be going back to UCT, but I also understand they have to protect their business, and I also understand that many many people have been very satisfied with their service over the years. Sometimes that's just how it goes.

Please call us back as we are trying to look into this matter. Sea World vouchers come directly from the partner and a reservation is not required for an entry. Please reach back out to us as we are trying to reach you to see what you are referring to.

E-tickets are non refundable for Universal studios

UPDATE - CS refunded without any issues within 24 hours. - Make sure to check your dates before submitting orders. Disney tickets have to be reserved using Disney website. Read the ticket before you go. Universal tickets are only for the designated date, these tickets are non refundable unless there's reasonable excuse. Also, the website glitches and erase the date from step 1 to step 2 to check out. ----------- OP ------They advertise “90 day ticket return” and that you can use them for 365 days. The website glitched and universal hollywood ticket printed a wrong date. I called after 10 mins of placing an order and asked if they can change the date. They say it's non refundable, I just need to cancel and reorder a new ticket then they said E-tickets are non refundable. And after escalation I have to wait 72 hours to get a response when I have a trip coming up next week.

Prepare to be disappointed when using Undercover Tourist

We purchased tickets to the Grand Californian Hotel at Disneyland for a vacation with my son and his family. Everything looked like it was accepted but then 2 days later we got a call that "Disneyland did not accept the reservation" and it was canceled. I was furious! My son and daughter-in-law said they just received an email saying their reservation had been canceled as well. They shouldn't be advertising rooms that they clearly don't have in their inventory! I have never had this happen with other 3rd party companies! This caused a lot of undue stress, and we had to rebook our rooms directly through Disneyland. The stress this caused was NOT worth the experience using them.

We apologize the hotel booking did not go through for you. We found an order for you for Disney Park tickets and do not see an order for any hotel under your name. Please call us back or reach out to us with the order number for the hotel you are referring to and we will investigate this matter with the hotel supplier.

I’m not sure how this company is even…

I’m not sure how this company is even in business with all of the negative reviews I have seen. Their website does not have a clear expectation E- tickets being nonrefundable. If anything, right under where you click “ get tickets” and place them in your cart it clearly states a 365 ticket return policy. I have sent them screenshots and have told them Multiple times that the way it looks on a mobile device vs a computer is not the same and there is absolutely nowhere that says it is a non-refundable purchase between placing the tickets in your cart and paying. I paid $195 for Kennedy space center tickets only to realize 2 weeks later that it is actually 3 hours from where we was going to be staying and making the trip is not feasible. This has become a complete nightmare with this company. I would stay away from buying tickets with them, Because if something happens, and you’re not able to use them, you will not get your money back.

Date of experience : May 29, 2024

We apologize but as a 3rd party the vouchers do come from the actual partner. As advised in the agreed upon terms of sale the booking is considered final. We do try our best to see if a refund can be given but that request is not a guarantee. We are checking with the partner to see if anything else can be done about this matter.

ordered 4 tickets to discovery cove…

ordered 4 tickets to discovery cove via undercover tourist totaling 1071.00 dollars. the plans changed and one person couldn't make it. i called to cancel just one ticket and they said id have to reorder the 3 tickets and prove to them before they'd cancel these tickets. i asked where this policy was displayed on their website and they said "its not, its just our policy" that's illegal. i told them ill pay the 5% and just cancel the whole order and order direct from discovery cove. they said ok, two weeks later still waiting for my money, 2 more days until Ill be disputing the charges and getting my whole return back. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Jay, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you've encountered. We strive to provide exceptional service, and it's disheartening to hear that we fell short of your expectations. We understand that changes in plans can be frustrating, and we're sorry for any confusion regarding our cancellation policy. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, and we'd like to clarify that our policy is indeed outlined in our terms and conditions, which can be found at https://www.undercovertourist.com/terms/. Regarding your specific case, we understand your frustration with the 5% penalty for cancellations. While this policy is in place to cover delivery, handling, and processing fees, we do recognize that each situation is unique. As a gesture of goodwill, we occasionally have the flexibility to waive this fee, particularly if the customer chooses to rebook with us. To better assist you, we have reached out on TrustPilot asking for additional details so that we can look into this matter further. Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention, and we hope to have the chance to regain your trust in the future. Hopping to assist you soon, The Undercover Tourist Customer Experience Team

Should have read the reviews here…

Should have read the reviews here first. Not happy with this company. Bought 4 day tickets plus options to WDW for 4 adults cost $2,635.80 (US). Thought I was getting a good deal. Now find advised on the WDW official website for the same days as $2,198.16 (US). Undercover Tourist have advised bad luck and no difference refund. Cannot recommend them.

As a 3rd party out, rates are contracted by the actual park to which our discount is compared to the gate price. As we try our best to keep costs low there maybe times due to dates and specials the park's website could be lower. Please provide us an order number and we will gladly investigate this.

Recieved wrong ticket lack of customer service

Recieved wrong ticket, immediately requested new more expensive ticket and was denied by Undercover tourist's customer service. After contacting theme park directly, the theme park could not locate ticket and advised they would gladly upgrade my ticket if it could be located. Never thought Undercover Tourist would have an issue with an upgrade and extra money, especially when theme park did not have an issue. The ticket number used by Undercover Tourist did not match the one used by the theme park and because of this they (theme park) could not do an upgrade. Spoke with Undercover tourist multiple times day of purchase. They stated no refunds (I was not asking for one), modifications, or changes even though the theme park had no problem allowing an upgrade to this ticket. Undercover Tourist stated the theme park had denied any changes, that was not true. Seems UCT just did not want to lift a finger to help. Terrible experience with Undercover Tourist. Purchase directly from theme park and not a third party ( under cover tourist ) with a lack of customer service. Update: Sent email as requested (below) by Undercover tourist with no responce! Guess they really do not want to resolve this issue. AVOID undercover tourist.

Recently bought a Black Friday deal for sea world San Diego. Called customer service a few times on the buy one get one free ticket and was duped into buying several sets to get free tickets. Turns out their deal was no better than one provided directly on Sea World website. With my dollars, hours of call time with three different representatives I will not use their site again.

As a 3rd party, these tickets come from the actual partner. We work carefully with our partners to provide our guests with the best deals possible. Please provide us an order number from last year and we will investigate the price difference.

Intentionally Obtuse Customer Service

Scam company with nonexistent customer service. If you get any response from them regarding an issue, it will be something like, “I’m sorry. We don’t understand your concern. Can you please explain it to us again for the 3rd time?” Screenshots, detailed step-by-step explanations, phone conversations… Nothing works. They basically will try to wear you down until you determine that it’s no longer worth your time. Avoid this company at all costs.

Thanks for all your help

Thanks for all your help. My money has been refunded and back in my account today after we had to get a refund on our Universal Studios tickets. Fantastic communication and reassurance during a very tricky time. We are hoping to come back to Orlando next year🤞and won't hesitate to recommend and use Undercover Tourist for our park tickets. It's not how people treat you when things are good but how they treat you when things are bad that shows their true colours. You've all been wonderful at helping us on this difficult time. Thank you once again and stay safe 💜 🐸

Smooth experience

Bought three Disneyland tickets and it was very smooth. At first I was skeptical after reading all the bad reviews, but decided to test my luck since they offer a few bucks off. I did encounter their "validation" progress, but it was super simple - just enter the pending amount they hold on your credit card. After this was complete, I received tickets within one minutes. The tickets were valid on Disney website.

Don’t buy concert tickets from them…

Don’t buy concert tickets from them unless you want to wait nearly two months to receive them !! They take your money fast enough but unless you call them you aren’t aware you have to wait until the ACTUAL TICKET SELLER makes contact with you . And you can’t have your money back either . Will NOT be buying anything else from them and will recommend my friends to do the same . The first guy I spoke to there was offhand with me and was very quick to tell me these tickets aren’t refundable. Plus they had a discount voucher that was on the checkout total but amazingly disappeared when I pressed pay !! As far as I’m concerned they are a rip off site . I payed with PayPal so I’m poised to open a dispute if I don’t see my tickets as I’ve been told . DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE BE WARNED

Date of experience : March 08, 2024

The customer bought Preferred Access tickets which are from trust sellers. There is an in-hand date, and the tickets are guaranteed to get to the customer. Per the seller, the average in-hand date is 2 days before the show and the customer's show is not until the end time of June. We will ask if the seller can send it sooner but that will be up to them and their inventory in terms of sending it out.

Very Misleading, Won’t Change Dates

Tickets are cheaper, and they advertise “90 day ticket return” and that you can use them for 365 days. BUT if you don’t read the fine print, that’s only some tickets. I tried to change our Universal Hollywood tickets to one day earlier and they absolutely refused. Very misleading (even my email at the top says 90 day return)! Never will I use them again or recommend them again!

Date of experience : August 26, 2023

We apologize some tickets have different cancellation policies. The guest bought a date ticket for Universal so if you miss that date, we are unable to refund the guest. We highly recommend that our guests read all terms of sales and details before buying especially if it is a date ticket they are buying.

Deal with this lot at your peril!

Wish I hadn’t used these rip off thieving clowns! Ordered tickets which were promptly sent and then so promptly cancelled while they held on to my money! Id give them minus stars but best i can do is just the one and thats one star too many! Save yourself the aggro and hassle of dealing with second rate thieves like i have. Like many others, wish id read their reviews first, in essence, its a lesson learnt! DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE GUYS at your peril, id rather have paid more for my tickets than dealing with this total shower of poo! These see you next Tuesdays have effing ruined a trip I have been planning for 2 years!

Date of experience : April 08, 2024

We apologize your tickets bought were cancelled. Please provide us the order details and we will gladly look into this matter.

We had to wait for an hour at Busch…

We had to wait for an hour at Busch Gardens for someone to know what to do with our voucher. I gave them 3 stars since this may not be their fault but these vouchers aren’t universally recognized. We also had to wait in a line at Aquatica to get a manager to print real tickets. I would say not really worth the lower price for the worry and stress that it won’t be accepted or recognized.

We apologize you had issues with the gate when you arrived. We strive to provide our guests the best tickets around for an excellent price and we aim to please our guests. If you ever have issues like this again, please call us and we will investigate this thoroughly.

Disneyland ok, last minute hotel drop cost us.

The Disneyland tickets were a good deal. But the hotel never reserved properly, leaving us scrambling for a hotel and paying almost $300 more because of their system. Instead of trying to fix the issue, they kept giving a run around of "that can happen, sorry to hear, sucks to be you" replies. I found another app (Klook) that I am trying next.

Date of experience : November 19, 2022

We apologize this happened to you two years ago. We always want to improve the issues we deal with our hotel suppliers and love the feedback our guest gives us. Please provide the order details and we can always investigate this further.

New York City pass direct from the…

New York City pass direct from the website has a full refund - when you purchase from them there is NO REUFND. What a scam I'd highly suggest NOT purchasing anything from them and using directly with the company vrs a third party

Date of experience : September 12, 2023

As a 3rd party, we can always reach out to the partner and see if the non-refundable ticket can be canceled and refunded. Please provide us with your order details from last year if this matter was not looked into properly.

Do not recommend

Horrible checkout experience with the payment verification. Finally was able to book, but when we went to check in to our hotel we learned they had cancelled our reservation despite already charging us in full for it. Had to book the hotel out of pocket at less than ideal rates. Have not received any response back from them nor a refund. Do not recommend.

Date of experience : November 26, 2022

We apologize the order failed and you had to buy at the hotel. We would love to investigate this matter that happened a few years ago. Please provide us the details and we can check to make sure future issues like this do not happen with our hotel suppliers.

Their 365 day money back guarantee is a…

Their 365 day money back guarantee is a scam. They will try to send you to Disney to fix the issue bc they know Disney will at least give a free ticket if you can't go due to illness. Undercover Tourist doesn't want to spend the money to honor their commitments. I can't tell you how any people they transferred us to. I will make sure everyone I know and others never make this mistake.

Date of experience : December 05, 2022

We take pride is our customer service and if there is an issue the partner can fix that is who we would rely on. We have to reach out to the actual partner to get approvals since we are the 3rd party, and the tickets are of a final sale. Please provide us the order number so we can investigate what had happened last year.

Simple, genuine and 1-day Disney Tix!

It's midnight in the UK 8th October 2022. I've just booked two 1-day tickets for my kids for the 18th Oct. I couldn't find 1-day tickets anywhere else (the missus and I already have long-term tickets). Wanted to book in advance because reservations were only available for the 18th and 20th for the Park we wanted and we were concerned it would become unavailable like the other dates we are in the US. UT was an Absolute doddle. Booked the tickets - paid via PayPal - got the tickets emailed to me immediately. Spoke on Chat to Louise beforehand, who allayed any fears I had before booking and was swift in her replies and helpful. I used the 12 character reference on my e-tickets to immediately make the Park reservation on the Disney site and it all went through fine. Very happy and recommend.

From the UC website: When you purchase this 2-Day Universal Part-to-Park Ticket - plus extra day free, we'll automatically upgrade it to a (3 day), free of charge. It is a regular (3 day) ticket, exactly the same as a (3 day) ticket that you could buy from the Universal Orlando gate. Redemption Real Tickets - Go straight to the gate and onto the rides. No will call exchange necessary… it's ok to smile. The Frog Family likes to get hoppin'! E-Tickets - Go straight to the gate and onto the rides. No will call exchange necessary… it's ok to smile. The Frog Family likes to get hoppin'! Please print your E-Tickets and take them with you! Otherwise the Front Gate will tell you to stand in line at Guest Services ! You must present a valid photo ID or credit card matching the lead guest name for identity verification at the gate. So essentially you are buying a 3-day park-to-park ticket for the price of a 2-day park-to-park ticket. With regard to how you get the tickets, when you complete your purchase, you can choose to have "real tickets" mailed to you or have e-tickets emailed to you for you to print yourself. We have always chosen e-tickets and have never had a problem.

I always have an actual ticket mailed to me. Have used them several times with no problems. I'm not positive if it is the best deal, it does include tax and shipping so if you are comparison shopping make sure you compare apples to apples, as they say.

Padstack

You can also pick-up the tickets when you get to Orlando. It is north of Universal, in a little strip mall, at a UPS store. The last time I went the e-tickets were not an option.

Proud Redhead

If you pick the etickets, make a few copies of them This way you have extra with you in case the bar code is creased or wet making it unable to be scanned

Since the shipping is included with UT, I have only ever had them mailed to us. The only time I wouldn't is if you are cutting it too close to your departure time.

  4. Undercover Tourist Demanding I Share Photo of Drivers ...

I ordered from Undercover Tourist for the first time for my most recent day trip and it was a headache when we got to the parks. Apple wallet didn't work so we had to wait in line and get ticket cards. Then the cast member told us the tickets were under my 11 year old brother's name instead of my own, and he's a minor and doesn't have ID.

  12. Cons to tickets from Undercover Tourist?

Jan 24, 2019. #15. I've just recently used them for Disney tickets for the first time. The only con so far was that it took a full 24 hours for me to get my E-Tickets; partially my fault for purchasing them at the last minute. So, I had to start making FP at 29 days out. (Wasn't a big deal, in the end.) FabFive24.
