Disruptions to services can be expected on SWR trains this morning

Disruption on the South Western Railway service near Woking, had meant that those travelling for Christmas via rail in the area may have needed to find alternative modes of transport.

A broken rail was affecting services between Farnborough and Woking, and was first reported on Saturday, December 23. At that time, South Western Railways expected the disruption to end at 10am this morning (December 24). The South Western Railway service looked to fix the issue. Replacement buses had been put on.

With roads busier than usual, especially along the M25, M3 , M23 and A3, take care while driving in Surrey this weekend, and make sure to check your journey before leaving the house.

One lane closed on M3

One lane closed due to broken down vehicle on M3 Southbound from J2 M25 J12 to J3 A322 (Lightwater / Bagshot). Traffic is coping well.

'Severely' reduced service for South Western Railway between Christmas and New Years

It is expected that there will be a "severely" reduced service for South Western Railway service between Christmas and New Years.

Rail passengers have been told to only travel "if necessary", as engineering works are set to take place.

A “severely reduced” service will be available on the South Western Railway (SWR) route on Wednesday, December 27, Thursday 28, and Friday 29.

No rail services on Christmas Day and Boxing Day

There will be no rail services taking place on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

This Christmas, stations will shut as staff take the opportunity to relax and enjoy the festivities.

Roads are clear

  • Roads are larhely clear this afternoon. Traffic is easing due to an earlier broken down vehicle on M3 Northbound from J3 A322 (Lightwater / Bagshot) to J2 M25 J12.
  • On the M23, traffic is easing after an earlier broken down vehicle on M3 Northbound from J3 A322 (Lightwater / Bagshot) to J2 M25 J12.

SWR disruption cleared

The disuption affecting SWR lines between Farnborough and Woking has now cleared, with train running normally. Note, there will be no train services across the entire South Western Railway network on Christmas Day and Boxing Day

There are no significant delays on the roads.

One lane is closed on the M3 due to broken down car. It is the Northbound carriageway from J3 A322 (Lightwater / Bagshot) to J2 (M25 Interchange). Traffic is coping well.

Currenly the M25 is all clear. All lanes are open after an earlier broken down vehicle on M25 clockwise between J8 A217 Brighton Road (Reigate) and J9 A243 (Leatherhead).

Airport drop off charges at Heathrow

Terminal drop off charges still apply this Christmas at Heathrow.

If a loved one is dropping you off at the airport, you will need to pay a £5 drop off charge.

Blue badge holders are eligible for a 100% discount on charges.

South Western Railway Service to shut down on Christmas and Boxing Day

No trains will run on the South Western Railway Service this Christmas and Boxing Day, in Surrey.

Despite there being no trains, railway tracks will still be "live", with a deadly electrical current that can have devastating effects.

Engineering works may still run on some parts of the Rail Network.

All lanes reopen on M25 after vehicle tyre change earlier

Lanes on the M25 have just now reopened after closure due to a vehicle tyre change.

The incident occurred at Lower Kingswood, clockwise on the M25, between Reigate and Leatherhead.

Traffic monitoring service, Inrix, said: "All lanes open, earlier broken down vehicle on M25 clockwise between J8 A217 Brighton Road (Reigate) and J9 A243 (Leatherhead)."

One lane closed on the M25 near Reigate due to tyre change

A lane on the M25 has shut clockwise near Lower Kingswood, as a vehicle has a tyre change.

Traffic monitoring service, Inrix, said: "One lane closed due to vehicle having a tyre changed on M25 clockwise between J8 A217 Brighton Road ( Reigate ) and J9 A243 (Leatherhead)."

No planned overnight closures tonight on major routes

Major routes such as the M25, A3 and M3 have seen overnight closures over the past year for urgent roadworks.

However, tonight there will be no road works from National Highways, which means drivers should not run into any closures this evening.

This morning, it is expected that disruption between Farnborough Main and Woking will end at around 10am.

The closure of the line was caused by a broken rail, which engineers have been working to repair.

Elsewhere, there are no current issues reported on the roads, but keep an eye out on the SurreyLive traffic and travel blog.

M23 - Some queueing traffic

One lane closed and queueing traffic due to broken down vehicle on M23 Northbound at J7 (M25 Interchange).

SWR disruption continues

Due to a broken rail between Farnborough Main and Woking some lines towards Woking are blocked. Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is still expected until the end of the day.

Two lanes closed after van breaks down on M25 near Staines

A broken down van on the M25 clockwise at junction 13 has lead to two lanes closing.

The lanes are closed from junction 13 to junction 14 Airport Way, near Heathrow.

It is not yet known when the lanes could reopen, but at the moment traffic appears to be coping.

Two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to broken down van on M25 clockwise from J13 A30 Staines By Pass (Staines) to J14 A3113 Airport Way (Heathrow).

SWR train disruption continues

Customers at Ash Vale who are travelling towards London Waterloo should travel to Aldershot and change there for a service towards London. Customers that require Ash Vale who are travelling towards London Waterloo are advised to change at Woking. Replacement road transport has been requested to run between Aldershot and Woking calling at Ash Vale, but this has not been confirmed, SWR said.

The latest on the roads

  • M25 - Queueing traffic due to recovery work and accident, now on the hard shoulder on M25 clockwise near J13 A30 Staines By Pass (Staines). All lanes have been re-opened.
  • M23 - One lane closed due to broken down vehicle on M23 Southbound from J7 A23 London Road North to J8 (M25 Interchange). Traffic is coping well.

M25 anticlockwise exit slip road clear, broken down car removed at J7 M23 J8.

Traffic at the Wisley Interchange

There is heavy traffic at the Wisley Interchange, where the road widening scheme is taking place.

At the moment residual traffic from the crash at junction 13 has caused severe delays all the way back to Wisley.

Vehicles are slow moving, message signs read that there is a 10 minute delay from junction 12 to junction 13, where the crash happened earlier.

M25 slip exit towards the M23 is now clear

Traffic is now able to fully move freely on the M25 clip road to the M23 at junction 7 to 8.

A broken down car was causing a blockage, but this has now been moved and lanes are open.

At the moment, traffic is coping well.

One lane is shut on the M23 heading southbound due to a broken down car. The closure is near junction 7, at the A23 London Road North towards junction 8.

Currently traffic is coping well on the M25,, Inrix said: "One lane closed due to broken down vehicle on M23 Southbound from J7 A23 London Road North to J8 (M25 Interchange). Traffic is coping well."

All lanes now reopen on the M25 near Staines clockwise

After closure, three lanes on the M25 clockwise have now reopened near Staines.

Lanes two, three and four all closed, after a multivehicle crash.

The crash has now been cleared, and cars are able to move freely through the area, congestion has built up back to the Wisley Interchange.

Elsewhere on the M25 a slip road is partially blocked near junction 8

A slip road on the M25 anticlockwise is partially blocked due to a broken down car. The incident occurred at junction 7, towards the M23.

Currently, traffic is coping well despite the blockage. Traffic monitoring service Inrix said: "M25 anticlockwise exit slip road partially blocked due to broken down car at J7 M23 J8. Traffic is coping well."

Delays considered 'severe' on the M25 clockwise

At the moment delays on the M25 are considered "severe" by traffic monitoring service, Inrix.

While recovery work is being undertaken, it is not yet known when lanes will reopen.

National Highways expects traffic conditions to return to normal after 1pm, however there could be residual delays.

It is anticipated that traffic conditions could return to normal after 1pm, according to National Highways.

The crash was first reported at around 10.50am, and occurred between multiple vehicles.

Recovery work is being undertaken to remove the vehicles from the road on the M25 moving clockwise.

Lanes two, three and four are still shut, but images from National Highways traffic cameras show the road being cleared by officers.

It is likely that the road could reopen shortly, updates are to come.

Currently it is unknown if there were any injuries.

Traffic slow on opposite side to the crash due to onlookers

Reportedly traffic is also slow anticlockwise as people look at the crash scene.

This is causing delays on the other side of the M25, and queues are starting to form as drivers slow down to look at what happened.

Currently it is not known if there were any injuries as a result of the crash.

Emergency services are in attendance.

Long delays on the M25 due to crash near Staines

The crash between multiple vehicles occured on the M25 clockwise towards Heathrow.

Traffic was filtered to the first lane, the rest have been closed with traffic officers and emergency services deal with the incident.

Currently, recovery work at the Staines Bypass is taking place, so that the highway can be cleared.

Inrix reports that there are "long delays", it said: "Long delays and three lanes closed due to recovery work and multi-vehicle accident on M25 clockwise near J13 A30 Staines Bypass (Staines). Congestion to just after J10 (Wisley Interchange). Traffic is also slow on the opposite side as drivers slow down to look at the accident."

Emergency services at the scene on the M25

Currently according to Traffic England cameras, emergency services are in attendance and are dealing with the multi vehicle crash.

A fire engine has blocked part of the road, and cars are being sent down the first lane moving clockwise near junction 13. Traffic moving clockwise will not be able to use lanes two, three or four, till the road is cleared.

It is not yet known if there were any injuries, or how many vehicles were involved in the crash.
