• j + 20 Jex Ter 2015-04-12 21:06:24 Although it seemed to be an innocent mistake, the Skipper was a scurvy rogue who knew there was going to be a bad squall. His diabolical plan was to "shipwreck" the Minnow (nudge nudge, wink wink), ransom Thurston Howle III for all his loot, and being a completely unscrupulous cad, have his way with Lovely and Ginger as well! (A.K.A.: bonus booty). The Skipper's evil plot was foiled because he had underestimated his 1st mate. Gilligan was actually a brilliant detective who had been investigating nefarious goings-on at The Tropic Port, and had traced them to the Skipper and his gang of scoundrels. His bumbling goofy demeanor (a la Colombo) and seemingly silly high-jinks enabled him to thwart the Skipper at every turn, while at the same time keeping the other castaways from becoming alarmed. The Professor got hip to what was going down pretty quick, and assisted Gilligan in any way he could. Although most of the engineering ideas came from the Professor (coconut telephones, etc.), he actually had to consult Gilligan for a lot of his more hard-core science diversions, since Gilligan had PhDs in both nuclear physics and organic chemistry. Most of the sexual tension in the show arose from the 3-way love triangle between Gilligan, the Professor, and May Ann, who was a vacationing pole dancer from Iowa. Add your reply

Well, they got all that and more. They were all enjoying the cruise and when winds driffed in creating high swells of water, the party was over. At once they sheltered themselves with what little they could find, said their prayers and kissed their butts goodbye. On the other hand, the skipper being the salty dog that he was, somehow kept his vessle afloat till it crashed on a rather large bogg. You know the rest of the story. It all started on a small sailing vessel (S. S. Minnow) at a port in Hawaii. The first mate (whose name was Gilligan [it's unknown if it was his first or last name]) was an experienced, but somewhat klutzy man. The Captain (Jonas Grumby A. K. A "Skipper') was a large, courageous man. The marine experience between the two sailors would turn out to be invaluable to the survival of the story to come. On this particular day, the Captain and his First Mate were taking five passengers on a sight-seeing tour. Among the passengers were a wealthy couple (Thurston Howell iii) and his wife (Eunice "Lovee" Wentworth Howell), a beautiful movie star (Ginger Grant), a professor (Roy Hinckley), and a beautiful, yet modest, farm girl from Winfield, Kansas (Mary Ann Summers). A couple hours into the cruise, a storm set in, setting the sailing vessel off course. The small vessel was tossed about in the tumultuous storm. The winds were blowing hard. Lighting pierced the sky and the thunder boomed loudly. The rain was relentless. Their little sight-seeing tour suddenly took a turn for the worst. The Captain and his First Mate fought hard to keep the vessel afloat. They had to assure the safety of their passengers at any cost. The storm lasted though out the night, leaving the crew and her passengers exhausted. By storms end, the vessel was beached on an uncharted, desolate island. It was fortunate that the vessel had been beached because there was a gaping hole in the starboard hull). Had the Captain and his First Mate been any less experienced, everybody would certainly have perished. The castaways befriended one another and soon became their own little community. They utilized most everything they could get their hands on. They had no electricity, no method of transportation, not a single luxury. Like the life of Robinson Crusoe, survival was a constant uphill battle. They endured many hardships, but remained optimistic through out their many experiences. Bill Russell wrote a memoir where he told of people with advanced Science degrees thanking him for being their inspiration to pursue a career in Science. I also was inspired and earned an advanced degree in Geoscience and taught Science for many years! Add your reply

I went on to become a science teacher, do postgraduate work on Hawaiian volcanoes and earn a Masters degree in Geoscience. The actor who played the professor, Russell Johnson, wrote a great memoir and told of other fans with advanced science degrees who were also inspired by the Professor! Add your reply

I am very happy that they are bringing the oldies but goodies back on. I loved watching Gilligan's Island when I was younger and have kinda missed all of a sudden when the theme song popped into my head. "Cruisin'" is a 1979 single written, produced, and recorded by Smokey Robinson for Motown Records' Tamla label. One of Robinson's most successful singles outside of his work with The Miracles, "Cruisin'" hit #1 on the U. S. Cash Box Top 100 and was also a major Billboard Pop hit, peaking at #4 the week of February 2, 1980. It was a Top Five hit on the Soul chart as well. The song was co-written by fellow Miracle Marv Tarplin. "Cruisin'" was an even bigger hit in New Zealand, hitting #1 on that country's chart. It is included on Robinson's ninth studio album, Where There's Smoke.... Reportedly, Smokey had a cold when he recorded the song. Do you have a particular song that plays in your head when you think of cruising? Maybe you even have more than one, like a Cruise Playlist.

I don’t know about you, but as my cruise approaches, I get “prepared” in a couple of ways.

1. The practical

I’m all about the packing lists, shore excursion planning (plus some pre-cruise shopping).

2. The psychological/emotional

I’m serious about this one. I get myself (and my family) in the mood by having a fun attitude and playing some cruise music.

Sometimes I even sing, although not well, so I won’t be entering any cruise karaoke contests.

Favorite Cruise Inspired Songs

It got me thinking, so many cruisers have a cruise playlist of favorite cruise inspired songs. They can be great to listen to before your cruise, as you travel to your cruise ship, or even during times you’re not cruising if you’ve got a little bit of the post-cruise blues .

If you’re creating a cruise vacation video, you may want to use some cruise songs to go along with your fabulous photos, videos and cruise memories.

After scouring the internet and cruise message boards, I’ve put together a cruise playlist. It includes some popular current songs, as well as some cruising classics.  Plus, I’ve included my favorites too!

If you’ve cruised in the last 10-15 years, you’ve definitely heard this one!

The Cupid Shuffle is the ultimate cruise line dancing song at Embarkation Day Sailaway Parties. I have to admit, if I hear it, I’m on the dance floor!

Taylor Swift  is only cryptic and machiavellian because she cares. 

On Monday, the 34-year-old singer perfectly timed up her Instagram Story -- complete with a link to download her upcoming 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Society -- with the solar eclipse to reveal one of the first lyrics from the highly anticipated April 19 release. 

In the video, a typewriter is seen with its keys typing out the words to the unidentified song, revealing three lines, including one with an on-the-nose reference to Monday's activity in the sky. 

"Crowd goes wild at her fingertips / Half moonshine, Full eclipse," the sheet of paper reveals. 

The Instagram Story comes as Swift is in the midst of the European leg of her record-breaking  Eras Tour  and less than two weeks out from the album's drop. 

As Swifties eagerly await the new drop, here's everything she's revealed about the project (so far). We'll continue to monitor as the new updates roll in. 

The Announcement

Swift dropped the news of her impending release onstage at the GRAMMY s on Feb. 4 while accepting her 13th trophy from the Recording Academy. The announcement came amid ongoing red herrings from the star, who many fans believed had been hinting at an imminent  Reputation (Taylor's Version) drop. 

"OK, this is my 13th GRAMMY, which is my lucky number. I don't know if I’ve ever told you that," Swift quipped while accepting the Best Pop Vocal Album award for her last original album,  Midnights . "I want to say thank you to the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way, but I know that the way that the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans."

Swift continued, "I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I have been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand new album comes out April 19th. It's called The Tortured Poets Department . I'm gonna go post the cover right now backstage. Thank you, I love you."

Moments later, Swift took to social media to share the main cover image for the album. 

Shot by Beth Garrabrant, the black-and-white pic shows Swift lying on a bed, surrounded by pillows. The second slide of her Instagram post featured a handwritten page of what appeared to be lyrics, which read, "And so I enter into evidence / My tarnished coat of arms / My muses, acquired like bruises / My talismans and charms / The tick, tick, tick of love bombs / My veins of pitch black ink."

At the bottom of the page, Swift wrote, "All's fair in love and poetry - sincerely, The Chairman of The Tortured Poets Department."

It was the first of four covers to be unveiled. On the album's back cover, the songstress looks forlorn as she rests her head on her hand. Text splashed across the image reads, "I love you, it's ruining my life."

The first edition is labeled "The Manuscript," as a reflection of the album's bonus track title. Swift has gone on to share additional versions of the LP including bonus tracks called "The Bolter," "The Albatross" and "The Black Dog." Each one features a cohesive black and white or sepia toned aesthetic.

Featured on the track list are collaborations with Post Malone  ("Fortnight") and Florence + the Machine  ("Florida!!!").

The Timeline

When announcing The Tortured Poets Department  in February,   Swift teased that the project had been in the works for two years. Then, during a tour stop in Tokyo, Japan, Swift further elaborated on the timeline . 

"I've been working on  Tortured Poets  since right after I turned in  Midnights , " she told the audience at the Tokyo Dome, clarifying that albums are submitted "months in advance" so they can be finalized. 

Midnights   was released in October 2022, and went on to make history when it was selected as the Album of the Year winner at the 2024 GRAMMYs.

In the time since  Midnights  dropped, Swift has also notably released  two rerecorded albums :  Speak Now (Taylor's Version)  and the record-breaking  1989 (Taylor's Version) . 

"I've been working on it for about two years," she confirmed of  Tortured Poets . "I kept working on it throughout the U.S. tour and when it was perfect, in my opinion, when it was good enough for you, I finished it." 

She continued, "I am so, so excited that soon you'll get to hear it, soon we'll get to experience that together, and I'm just like, I'm over the moon about the fact that you guys care about my music. It still blows my mind. I love doing this, I know I keep saying that, but that's because it's true.'" 

Swift joked that she's been asked on numerous occasions, "Why do you make so many albums?" She replied, "Man, because I love it. I love it so much." 

She added, "I'm having fun, leave me alone." 

The Inspiration

While many fans expected Swift to announce a release date for  Reputation (Taylor's Version)  at the GRAMMYs, news that  Swift had already finished a completely original album  took many by surprise -- and sent Swiftie sleuths into overdrive to uncover clues about its origin and inspiration.

Quickly, a 2022 video of Swift's ex-boyfriend,  Joe Alwyn , resurfaced in which he revealed that he was in a group chat with friends  called "The Tortured Mans Club."   The former couple was in a relationship for six years before  ET broke the news of their split in April of last year. 

The track "So Long, London" also caught many eyes, with Swifties wondering if it might also be a reference to Alwyn, who is English.

The celebrated songwriter is, of course, well known for her deeply personal lyrics and storytelling. 

During a tour stop in Australia, Swift told the audience that creating Tortured Poets was a necessary outlet during a tumultuous time.

"This album, this new one, Tortured Poets ,   is an album that I think more than any of my albums that I've ever made -- I  needed  to make it," she said.

"It was really a lifeline for me, just the things I was going through, the things I was writing about," she continued. "It kind of reminded me of why songwriting is something that like actually gets me through my life." 

She added, "I've never had an album where I needed songwriting more than I needed it on Tortured Poets ."

It's not yet clear if any of the Tortured Poets songs will include references to her current relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce . The couple first connected after Kelce famously called her out on his podcast, New Heights , in July  for refusing to meet him during her tour stop at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.   In a later interview with Time , Swift said she thought the move was "metal as hell." 

The duo went public with their romance in September, when the musician made her first of many appearances at her beau's NFL games.  The rest, as they say, is history

In an Instagram Story on April 8, she revealed some of the very first lyrics from the album as a tease from the album's upcoming release. 

"Crowd goes wild at her fingertips / Half moonshine, Full eclipse," she shared. It's unclear which song the lyrics come from.

3. Adventure Attire

The best outfits for a cruise are the ones you can wear all day long. If you have a list of adventure activities planned for your shore excursions, or if you'll be braving the ship's RipCord® by iFly® skydive simulator and Zip Line, pack accordingly. During the day, wear athletic shorts, a neutral-colored tank top, and sneakers or sandals. Don't forget a hat, sunglasses and a long-sleeved sun shirt in your day bag. Need to dress up for dinner? It's simple. Pack extra clothes in a tote bag in case you don't have time to go back to your stateroom. Swap your athletic shorts for a flowy skirt or trousers, and trade your sneakers for a more formal pair of shoes, like chunky heels or loafers for a put-together look.

4. Beach-Day Outfit

For many, a cruise vacation is all about spending as much time as possible in or near the sea. Maybe this means claiming a lounge chair as your own, seeking a spot in the sand without footprints or swimming out into the clear blue water. When you're done wading in the water or soaking up the sun, a cover-up like a romper, oversized shirt or dress is always a stylish choice for wandering local shops and grabbing a seaside lunch. Quick-drying swim trunks are the go-to staple for this cruise outfit and is a perfect choice for kids. Just throw on a collared shirt and slip-on penny loafers, and you're good to go.

For dinner reservations, add an air of tropical elegance with a pair of wide-legged linen trousers or chinos in a solid color, paired with a linen top in a colorful print and some timeless accessories like a gauzy scarf, dangling necklace, a sleek watch or large sunglasses.

Make sure your cruise packing list includes a lightweight bag for your book, sun protection, wallet, camera, phone and a foldable dry bag tucked inside. When you're done swimming, you can stow your swimwear away in the dry bag without getting the rest of your items wet.

5. Sightseeing Cruise Outfit

When trying to figure out what to wear on a cruise, it's important to plan ahead and know what your must-dos are for your cruise vacation. For long days jam-packed with historical and natural sights to see, pack fabrics that are breathable and comfortable. Linen pants and a good pair of socks and boots are invaluable for rainforest hikes, while a lightweight long-sleeve shirt and a sunhat with a drawstring will keep you covered when visiting ancient ruins. If you're packing outfits for a cruise destination in a warm climate, bring something that can be worn over a swimsuit, so you're always ready to take a dip in hidden cenotes.

When it's time to hit the town at night, add some accessories to soften this look like dainty jewelry, colorful slip-on shoes, a Panama hat and a handbag.

Taylor Swift Teases Lunar-Themed Tortured Poets Department Lyrics on Same Day as Total Solar Eclipse

'The Tortured Poets Department' is set for release on April 19

Taylor Swift is getting in on the fun of the rare total solar eclipse .

On Monday, April 8, the same day an eclipse is hitting North America, Swift teased what appear to be lunar-themed lyrics off her highly anticipated album The Tortured Poets Department .

On her Instagram Story, Swift, 34, shared a link to preorder the album, as well as a video of a typewriter typing out a set of apparent lyrics.

“Crowd goes wild at her fingertips/Half moonshine, Full eclipse,” the typewriter writes.

The tease comes the same day that millions of people in the U.S., Mexico and Canada will experience a darkened sky along the path of totality for the total solar eclipse.

It also comes two days after Swift shared a 13-day countdown to Tortured Poets in honor of her favorite number, 13.

“13 days until THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT,” she wrote in an Instagram Story on April 6 that featured the same typewriter.

The Grammy-winning star announced the record on Feb. 4 at the Grammy Awards, saying in an acceptance speech that she’d been hard at work on the record for the past two years.

Swift later shared a set of exclusive playlists with Apple Music that broke her song catalog into the five stages of heartbreak: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

The playlists lent credence to fan theories that The Tortured Poets Department will explore those same five stages, as each playlist is titled after either a new song on the album or a phrase Swift has shared during the album’s promo: I Love You, It’s Ruining My Life Songs, You Don’t Get to Tell Me About Sad Songs, Am I Allowed to Cry? Songs, Old Habits Die Screaming Songs and I Can Do It with a Broken Heart Songs.

The Tortured Poets Department will be released at midnight on April 19.

Taylor Swift will stare directly at the sun, but never in the mirror — so let’s just hope she uses protective glasses.

The “Anti-Hero” singer aptly shared a what appears to be an eclipse-themed lyric from her upcoming new album The Tortured Poets Department on Monday (April 8), the same day the moon fully obscured the sun from Earth’s view for the first time in three years.

In a video posted to Swift’s Instagram Story, an unseen writer hammers the following message onto typewriter paper: “Crowd goes wild at her fingertips. Half moonshine, full eclipse.”

The post comes less than two weeks prior to Tortured Poets ‘ April 19 release date. Other than the cover art and track list, it marks the first taste of the record the 14-time Grammy winner has shared.

Swift first announced her 11th studio album at the 2024 Grammys while accepting the best pop vocal prize for Midnights , later confirming that both Post Malone and Florence + The Machine will make guest appearances on the project. She’s currently nearing the end of a two-month break from her global Eras Tour as she gears up to drop Tortured Poets , after which she’ll resume her trek with four shows in Paris slated for mid-May.
