Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Kiss have sold their music catalog, name, image and likeness — including their iconic makeup designs — to Pophouse Entertainment , the Sweden-based music investment firm behind ABBA’s “Voyage” hologram show . While terms of the deal were not officially announced, Bloomberg and Associated Press said it was worth upwards of $300 million.

In a statement, Pophouse plans to promote the group’s “iconic music, enigmatic personas, and expressive imagery for generations to come.” Indeed, news of the deal arrives just four months after Kiss unveiled plans for an avatar concert similar to ABBA’s with digital versions of the group.

Since its launch in London in July of 2022, “ABBA Voyage” has grossed more than $1 million per week and last year Universal Music chairman Lucian Grainge announced plans to take the show around the world, with Las Vegas recently rumored as a destination. ABBA’s Bjorn Ulvaeus is a co-founder of Pophouse, which over the past two years has also acquired catalogs by the late Swedish DJ-artist Avicii, the electronic music group Swedish House Mafia and American singer Cyndi Lauper.

Kiss teased their forthcoming digital show at the final concert of their “End of the Road” tour in New York last year when avatar versions of the band closed the show. The first digital Kiss show is scheduled for 2027.

Kiss co-founder Gene Simmons said, “We have always been breaking new ground in popular culture, and this partnership will ensure that we continue to do so for years to come. Because what Pophouse is doing, is breaking rules. We already have several plans in development.”

Per Sundin said of the deal, “Kiss has sold more than 100 million records worldwide and has throughout their 50-year career continued to push the boundaries in popular culture. The band’s enigmatic personas, unparalleled band attributes, and iconic imagery have made them a cultural force and a legendary act with multigenerational appeal.

“We will safeguard and enrich this legacy through future global endeavors, by breathing new life into their characters and personas while also leveraging and elevating the visual world of KISS.”

Swedish entertainment firm Pophouse acquires rock band KISS's music catalogue

Swedish entertainment and music investment company Pophouse says it has acquired the music catalogue, brand name and likeness of US rock band KISS. 

Financial terms of the transaction are not being disclosed but the Associated Press estimated the deal is worth more than $US300 million ($456 million). 

Pophouse Entertainment Group, established by ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus, is also the founding investor in the ABBA Voyage show in London. 

Pophouse previously partnered with KISS during the final night of their farewell tour in New York in December 2023, when the band unveiled digital avatars of themselves.

"Our mission is to fulfil the band's vision to become immortal, and to let new generations discover and be part of the KISS journey and carry it forward," Pophouse head of investment Johan Lagerlof said in a statement on the company's website. 

"With the help of the fans' energy, the band, our expertise, and creativity – we will make that vision happen."

Bassist and lead singer Gene Simmons said the band had "always been breaking new ground in popular culture".

"This partnership will ensure that we continue to do so for years to come," he said.

Pophouse said it would create digital versions of KISS, with an Avatar show planned to launch in 2027.

KISS are Pophouse's second investment outside of Sweden, following the acquisition of Cyndi Lauper's music catalogue in February 2023.

They're the latest to participate in an ongoing trend of blockbuster acts and their rights holders inking deals to sell their back catalogues, often for impressive sums.

It's big business — especially considering two-thirds of all music streamed is made up of catalogue music, and streaming accounts for 84 per cent of all music industry revenue.

Not every artist disclosed the amounts involved but some deals have been estimated at as much as half a billion dollars.

Artists such as Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Justin Bieber, Stevie Nicks and Shakira have all sold or had their catalogues sold. 

In 2020 Bob Dylan sold publishing rights to his catalogue of more than 600 songs to the Universal Music Publishing Group.

The singer's collection includes modern standards like Blowin' in the Wind and Like a Rolling Stone. Industry experts estimated the deal was in the range of $US300 million to $US500 million.

In 2021, Warner Music Group reached a deal with David Bowie's estate for worldwide rights to the prolific singer's recorded music catalogue from 1968, including Space Oddity and Let's Dance.

Terms were not disclosed.

Not all artists consent to or have had control over the sale of their catalogues. 

In June 2019, music manager Scooter Braun's Ithaca Holdings announced that it had acquired Big Machine Label Group, which was led by Scott Borchetta and home to Taylor Swift's first six albums, for an estimated $US300 million to $US350 million, the New York Times reported.

In response, Swift started to re-record and release new versions of those albums, labelled Taylor's Version, in an attempt to reclaim her masters.

Swedish firm acquires rock legends KISS' catalogue

A Swedish entertainment group co-founded by ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus has acquired the music catalogue, name and likeness of KISS and plans to produce a movie about the legendary rock band, the company said Thursday.

Formed in the 1970s by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, KISS became glam metal icons through their iconic face paint, stage theatrics and hard rock riffs.

Some of their breakout hits include songs like "Rock And Roll All Nite" (1975) and "I Was Made For Lovin' You" (1979).

Ulvaeus' Pophouse said in a statement that the deal would enable them to "further develop and amplify the unique KISS legacy worldwide."

It said it had acquired KISS' "music catalogue, brand name and likeness -- including the world-famous face paint designs –- as well as trademarks of the iconic American rock band."

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"KISS is one of the most recognised and iconic bands in the history of music," said Johan Lagerlof, head of investment at Pophouse.

"They redefined the concept of rock shows and have always taken their artistry to new unchartered territories."

Pophouse said plans for a movie based on the band's story, an avatar show, and a KISS themed experience were "already in the works."

The rock group had already collaborated with Pophouse in the creation of digital avatars for stage performances, which Pophouse in December said marked "the withdrawal of the flesh and blood group."

Pophouse were also among the developers of the "ABBA Voyage" show in London where digital avatars, or "ABBAtars", performed hits from the iconic Swedish pop group.

In February, Pophouse announced it had acquired the rights to US singer Cyndi Lauper's music catalogue.

An earthquake with a preliminary 4.8 magnitude rattles the Northeastern U.S., USGS says

The hard rock legends Kiss have struck a mega-deal with Swedish company Pophouse Entertainment Group, selling their music catalogue, brand, and IP for over $300 million (€276m).

This isn't the first collaboration between Kiss and Pophouse, which was co-founded by ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus.

When the band's current lineup - founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons as well as guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer - took the stage at the final night of their farewell tour in December at New York City's famed Madison Square Garden, they ended by revealing digitised avatars of themselves.

The cutting-edge technology was created by George Lucas’ special-effects company, Industrial Light & Magic, in partnership with Pophouse. The two companies recently teamed up for the “ ABBA Voyage ” show in London, in which fans can attend a full concert by the Swedish band in their heyday, as performed by their own digital avatars.

The ways in which Kiss' avatars will be utilised has yet to be announced, but Pophouse CEO Per Sundin says fans can expect a biopic, a documentary and a Kiss experience on the horizon.

An avatar show is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2027 - but don't expect it to look anything like “ABBA Voyage," Sundin told the AP.

“I don't like the word acquisition,” bassist and co-lead singer Gene Simmons tells the AP over Zoom, assuring the band would never sell their catalogue to a company they didn't appreciate.

“People might misunderstand and think, ‘OK, now Pophouse is doing that stuff and we’re just in Beverly Hills twiddling our thumbs.’ No, that’s not true. We’re in the trenches with them. We talk all the time. We share ideas. It’s a collaboration."

And within that: no more live touring, for real. “We’re not going to tour again as Kiss, period,” he says. “We’re not going to go put the makeup on and go out there.”

Kiss are Pophouse's second investment outside of Sweden: In February, Cyndi Lauper entered a partnership with the company which including the sale of the majority share of her music and a new immersive performance project she's calling an “immersive theatre piece” that transports audiences to the New York she grew up in.

     Present edition unites two parts of Catalogue of interacting galaxies by B.A.Vorontsov-Velyaminov: the first part (Part 1) containing 355 systems was published in 1959 [1] and the second one (Part 2) with 497 objects - in 1976 [2].Thus two published parts of Catalogue include 852 interacting systems. Already in the end of 70s the preparation of third part was in going but it was not finished by the author.      To regret, many errors and misprints were found at published issues. Besides, the galaxies location in Catalogues caused some difficulties to their search. As a result in 1970 the second corrected edition of the first part was appeared [3]. In the second part of Catalogue the author did not give at all the object's list in order of the coordinates.      We have decided to join both parts of the VV-Catalogue and to add the objects intended for the third part. All new of them (1162 by number) were taken from the comments to the galaxies in Morphological catalogue by Vorontsov-Velyaminov et al.[4-8]. They took the VV- designations from VV 853 to VV 2014.      So the present edition contains 2014 interacting galaxies classified as such in Morphological catalogue which has completness to 15 photographic magnitude and to the declination of >-45 degrees. A small number of more southern galaxies were included with earlier VV-designations. We did not try to separate the single galaxies with vast structural features from really double or multiple ones because it needs the additional observations.      The classification of galaxies on the interaction types was the same as Vorontsov-Velyaminov has suggested. It was in detail described at the preface to the second part of VV-catalogue. For each type we have introduced the conventional designations given below: HII-regions: H - large inner subsystems, the galaxies with vast HII- regions, M51 type - the satellite on the spiral branch of primary component: M - one satellite, MM - two satellites on the spirals, MMM - satellite lies on the bridge connecting the components, Nests: N - three or more members in a tight group, NN - disrupted nest, NNN - separated triples, NNNP - triples with a tight pair, NPNP - the pair of tight pairs, NP - nest with clear pair, Ch - chain. Pairs: PC - pair of coalescents, b - bridge PK - pair in contact, t - tail PD - distant pair. df - disruption of the facade Psevdo-Rings R - a ring without a nucleus together the non-elliptic galaxy, "Comets" K - comet-like single galaxy, Enigmatic En including Ent - a single galaxy with a tail, Enf - a single with breaking of inner structure, Enat - not tidal phenomena.      We have verified and supplemented the information given at published parts of catalogue by means of extragalactic data base NEDA-NASA/IPAC. There are now the numerous radial velocities of interacting galaxies as far as the information on IRAS and radio observations. But we did not include the colour information because it is not so extensive as that of Vr. Besides we have omitted the angular distances between the components were given in Part 1.      The galaxies are arranged in order of the increasing of right ascension. In columns from 1 to 18 there are given: 1,11 columns - VV-designation of the galaxy. Unlike the preceeding parts the new galaxies (from VV853) were nominated in order of alfa2000, 2-3 columns - equatorial coordinates of the galaxy for the equinox 2000 from NEDA-NASA/IPAC, 4 column - the total magnitude of the component or of the whole system Bt or B(mB) from NED or mpg from MCG, 5 column - the angular dimensions in units of 0.1 minutes from NED or MCG, 6-7 columns - radial velocity of the galaxy: from optical observations VRo and from radio observations VRr in according of Vaucouleurs catalogue RC3 [9]. By asterisk there were marked the data from NED but not contained in RC3. 8-9 columns - the information on IRAS and radiodata, 10 column - the morphological type of the galaxy: S - spiral, E - elliptical, I -irregular, 12 column - the type of the interaction in according of the above-mentioned code, 13-18 columns give the identification of the object with catalogues MCG, NGC, Zwicky [10], Markarjan [11], Arp [12], UGC [13].The other identifications may be found in NED.      The study on interacting galaxies was delayed dramatically about 2 decade due to the instrumental opportunites of the astronomy in 60-s. Genuine study began only in 80-s when the importance of the galaxies interaction in their evolution was come to light. Now there are many hundreds papers on the investigation of interacting galaxies. Title : Active carbons as nanoporous materials for solving of environmental problems

However, up to now, the main carriers of catalytic additives have been mineral sorbents: silica gels, alumogels. This is obviously due to the fact that they consist of pure homogeneous components SiO2 and Al2O3, respectively. It is generally known that impurities, especially the ash elements, are catalytic poisons that reduce the effectiveness of the catalyst. Therefore, carbon sorbents with 5-15% by weight of ash elements in their composition are not used in the above mentioned technologies. However, in such an important field as a gas-mask technique, carbon sorbents (active carbons) are carriers of catalytic additives, providing effective protection of a person against any types of potent poisonous substances (PPS). In ESPE “JSC "Neorganika" there has been developed the technology of unique ashless spherical carbon carrier-catalysts by the method of liquid forming of furfural copolymers with subsequent gas-vapor activation, brand PAC. Active carbons PAC have 100% qualitative characteristics of the three main properties of carbon sorbents: strength - 100%, the proportion of sorbing pores in the pore space – 100%, purity - 100% (ash content is close to zero). A particularly outstanding feature of active PAC carbons is their uniquely high mechanical compressive strength of 740 ± 40 MPa, which is 3-7 times larger than that of  such materials as granite, quartzite, electric coal, and is comparable to the value for cast iron - 400-1000 MPa. This allows the PAC to operate under severe conditions in moving and fluidized beds.  Obviously, it is time to actively develop catalysts based on PAC sorbents for oil refining, petrochemicals, gas processing and various technologies of organic synthesis.

Victor M. Mukhin was born in 1946 in the town of Orsk, Russia. In 1970 he graduated the Technological Institute in Leningrad. Victor M. Mukhin was directed to work to the scientific-industrial organization "Neorganika" (Elektrostal, Moscow region) where he is working during 47 years, at present as the head of the laboratory of carbon sorbents.     Victor M. Mukhin defended a Ph. D. thesis and a doctoral thesis at the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia (in 1979 and 1997 accordingly). Professor of Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. Scientific interests: production, investigation and application of active carbons, technological and ecological carbon-adsorptive processes, environmental protection, production of ecologically clean food.
