Grammy Award-Winning Guitarist Eric Johnson Announces ‘Treasure Tour’ 2023
Photo: Eric Johnson by Max Crace
To Celebrate Two Albums Released Earlier This Year
The Book of Making and Yesterday Meets Today
The Grammy Award-winning, Austin-based guitarist and songwriter Eric Johnson is hitting the road early next year after a long break when, like everyone, he was forced to cut his Spring 2020 tour a week short after the lockdown occurred. The Treasure Tour kicks off on February 11, 2023 in Houston, TX and will continue through April 2 right back in Texas at the Aztec Theatre in San Antonio. The tour will pick up once again for Leg 2 on September 8 in North Carolina before concluding on October 12 in Tulsa, OK. Full itinerary is below.
The Treasure Tour will celebrate Johnsonâs TWO new separate albums, The Book of Making and Yesterday Meets Today , released this past July via his new partnership with Blue Ălan Records.
Listen Here to The Book of Making and Yesterday Meets Today
It was during the mandatory âlockdown vacationâ that all of us endured throughout 2020 when Johnson realized, âI have the time, letâs go through the vaults and see whatâs there.â What he found was enough material to emerge with two albums featuring nine songs on each LP. The Grammy-winning, multi-genre guitarist took inventoryâboth emotionally and musicallyâdelving into the many unfinished tracks, outtakes, demos, and sonic ideas in his archive to compile the 18 songs that ultimately ended up on the albums.
âI started pulling these recordings out of the vault at my studio. Some were professionally done, some were just scratch tapes, some were rehearsal recordings on cassette,â Johnson explains . The music spanned 25 years of âcreations, thoughts and ideas that remained unfinished for many years.â In some of the deeply moving music Johnson discovered a âcertain personal magicâ and decided to allow song cuts to remain as they were initially created. Others were embellished; a few songs are new.
Among Johnson’s many accolades are a Grammy award for “Cliffs of Dover ” (a track from his Platinum certified Ah Via Musicom), ten more Grammy nominations, lifetime induction into the Guitar Player Gallery of Greats and his listing among the “100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century” by Musician . In his hometown of Austin TX, a city full of guitarists, the readers of the Austin Chronicle have voted Eric Johnson the city’s “Best Electric Guitarist” and “Best Acoustic Guitarist” in their yearly poll year after year. They also named him “Electric Guitarist of the Decade” and one of the top five “Musicians of the Decade” .

____________ Eric Johnson has been traveling on a prolific odyssey over the course of more than four decades. Along the way, his creations have encompassed repertoire that cross pollinate genres which include rock, blues, jazz, fusion, soul, folk, new-age, classical and even country. Inevitably, E.J. says it best himself in sharing, “It really boils down to the music and the song at the end of the day,” he explains. “If it doesn’t have that it gets boring for me. The most important thing for me is to grow musically and make a more expansive and meaningful artistic statement with every new project.”
During the Pandemic, the Grammy winning guitarist, vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist has been busy releasing weekly, donation- based, virtual “Mini-Lessons” benefitting Food Banks across the country and working in the studio on previously un-released tracks and new recordings. Throughout his career, Johnson has approached music as a healing force, a way to enhance a listener’s consciousness, and conjure joy and inspiration. More than a year into the Pandemic, and because of the Pandemic, he reflects that this approach has become reinforced and more enhanced. The 2023 Treasure Tour will feature some of the previously un-released gems, some new songs, and some older favorites. His band will include Tom Brechtlein on drums, and Roscoe Beck on bass.

ZAKK WYLDE, ERIC JOHNSON And DWEEZIL ZAPPA Among Guitarists Taking Part In 2024 'Experience Hendrix' Tour
For the first time in five years, the "Experience Hendrix" tour, the critically acclaimed multi-artist celebration of Jimi Hendrix 's musical genius, returns to the concert trail with a slate of concert dates that offer the musical excellence of numerous topflight artists in celebration of the life and legacy of Jimi Hendrix . While there was a one-off event date in Austin, Texas in 2022, the last full-fledged (pre-pandemic) "Experience Hendrix" tour took place in 2019.
The concept for the "Experience Hendrix" tour dates back more than 25 years; what started as a single concert at San Diego's Street Scene in 2001 and 2002 expanded by 2004 into a full-fledged national tour. This year's outing marks the 20th anniversary of the "Experience Hendrix" tour. This year's tour bring the music of Jimi Hendrix to audiences in the Pacific Northwest, California, Nevada, Arizona New Mexico and eastward through Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee concluding in Georgia and Florida. Most fittingly, the tour kicks off on September 19 in Seattle, Jimi Hendrix 's hometown, at the Paramount Theater.
The tour presents a host of great artists collaborating and interpreting Hendrix 's legendary songs as part of a powerhouse, three-hour concert experience. The wide range of multi-generational artists who participate in a reflection of the ecumenicism of Jimi Hendrix 's classic repertoire and the diversity of those whose lives have been indelibly affected by his music. Kenny Wayne Shepherd is one of the major players in forthcoming edition of the "Experience Hendrix" tour and a veteran of previous "Experience Hendrix" outings.
Shepherd , a five-time Grammy nominee and recipient of two Billboard Music Awards , commented: "I'm excited to rejoin the 'Experience Hendrix' tour this year. It's always been a great tour with exceptional artists honoring Jimi Hendrix , the greatest guitar player of all time, and his amazing and expansive catalog of songs. Being able to do a tour with friends always makes for a great time and this show is not to be missed."
Other notable artists who are part of the tour this time out include the legendary blues icon Taj Mahal , Zakk Wylde , founder of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and most recently part of the reformed PANTERA , Mississippi-born blues wunderkind Christone "Kingfish" Ingram who is both a Grammy Award winner and was named Contemporary "Blues Male Artist Of The Year" at least year's Blues Music Awards , guitar greats Eric Johnson and Dweezil Zappa , Mato Nanji from INDIGENOUS , Calvin Cooke and Chuck Campbell of the SLIDE BROTHERS , standard bearers of the "sacred steel" musical tradition, and vocalist Henri Brown . Participating artists vary for performance dates so "Experience Hendrix" concert goers are encouraged to visit experiencehendrixtour.com for specifics about each of the tour stops.
This year's tour will also present a host of rising stars including Texas born and raised blues sensation Ally Venable , who headlined the 60-date "European Blues Caravan" tour when she was just 20 years old, vocalist Dylan Triplett , Seattle guitarist Ayron Jones , young Brazilian blues rock guitarist Arthur Menezes and 20-year-old Mathias Lattin , winner of the Blues Foundation 's 2023 International Blues Challenge. Other artists joining the tour for select dates include Blues Music Award winner Samantha Fish and Stanley Jordan , the noted jazz guitarist who is an exponent of the two-handed tapping technique. Beyond these artists, special guests will drop in over the course of the tour. These include country music sensation Hunter Hayes , legendary DOORS guitarist Robby Krieger and many others to be announced.
The 2024 "Experience Hendrix" tour is sponsored by Marshall , Fender , Dunlop , Hal Leonard , JMH Productions , Experience Hendrix and Authentic Hendrix . Marshall amps have long been associated with Jimi Hendrix and were his amplifiers of choice during his career. Fender is now celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Fender Stratocaster, the guitar most often associated with Jimi Hendrix . Eric Jones Advances to PBA World Championship Finals
Jones, a 19-year-old Oklahoma native, joins Tackett, Fach, Svensson and Russo in championship round
From Jason Belmonteâs record-breaking 11th major title, to Chris Viaâs second televised 300 game, to Anthony Simonsenâs unprecedented fifth major title at the age of 27, countless PBA history has been made at Strobl Arena inside Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich.
A new tale of Thunderbowl lore may have just begun to unfold as 19-year-old Eric Jones won the play-in stepladder to advance to the PBA World Championship finals on Saturday night.
Defying age-related expectations is nothing new for Jones.
As a non-member, Jones won a PBA Regional Tour title in Oct. 2020 at the age of 15 years and 263 days, becoming the then-youngest player to win a regional. (Brady McDonough, also as a non-member, won a regional last year at the age of 15 years and 137 days old.)
Jones moves on to Sundayâs championship round, where he will meet defending champion and reigning Player of the Year EJ Tackett in the opening match. Three left-handers wait in the wings: Graham Fach, Jesper Svensson and top seed Matt Russo.
âWell Simo did it, so I'm not doing anything brand new here,â said Jones, referring to Anthony Simonsen winning the USBC Masters at the age of 19. âI'm just bowling my game. I'm out here trying to do my best and if my best is going for a major I'm pretty happy with that.â
The finals of the seasonâs fourth major championship will begin Sunday at noon Eastern on FOX.

Russo, Svensson, Fach and Tackett clinched berths in Sundayâs finals by qualifying in the top four of the PBA World Championship, which consisted of 61 games of qualifying throughout the PBA World Series of Bowling XV.
The fifth through ninth qualifiers competed in Saturdayâs play-in stepladder for the final berth in Sundayâs championship round.
In the opening match, the ninth-seeded Michael Martell started with back-to-back open frames. His switch from urethane to reactive came far too late as the No. 8 seed Packy Hanrahan fired seven consecutive strikes to win the match, 256-193.
Hanrahan and Kyle Sherman battled in a back and forth second match. They entered the 10th frame tied. Sherman, finishing first, wrapped a 10-pin and missed it; Hanrahan then converted a 7-pin to win the match.
Jones entered a Hanrahan-friendly arena for the third match, but said his ball reaction allowed him to not crowd let the crowd get in his head.
âI had really, really good ball reaction that game, and that took away a lot of the intensity,â Jones said. âI just knew if I could put (the ball) there, it was probably going to strike. I had a very good idea of what was going on.â
On his first shot, however, Jones did not put the ball where he wanted. He split in his opening frame, leaving the 3-6-7. He made the split and was off to the races.
âI would have rather done that than strike. I would have rather done that than shoot 300,â Jones said. âTo throw my first shot on TV (as a professional) terrible and then add the momentum of picking up a split and the momentum of my dad going crazy, it was perfect. It completely loosened me up. I knew what I could do and I knew what I was going to do after that.â
Jones rattled off nine strikes in his next 10 shots, leaving only a wrapped 7-pin in between, to knock off Hanrahan, 267-232.
Jones met another two-handed lefty, Michigan native Justin Knowles, in the final match on Saturday night.
The 19-year-old started the nightâs final match with three of four strikes before leaving the 6-7-10 in the fifth frame. In similar fashion, Jones converted the split to maintain a 257-256 max score advantage.
The split conversion added pressure on Knowles, who wasnât able to string more than two strikes together. After Knowles failed to double in the 10th, Jones needed just nine pins to secure the match victory. He spared the 2-4 and won the match, 215-202.
Jones said that the reality of the situation â that he sits four games away from a major championship title â hasnât quite processed.
âI think that's what helps me with my composure on TV: I don't understand what's going on,â Jones said. âI was hardly even looking at a target today. I was, but I didnât know I was. It just gets me into tunnel vision. I can't think. It's frame by frame. It keeps me purely in the moment because if I'm not in the moment, I'm going to have a panic attack.â
Though he keeps a care-free attitude, Jones understands the big picture.
Jones, sitting 57th in points after the PBA Shark Championship, will climb into the top 36 or so with this performance in a major. With the top 43 players in points following next weekâs PBA Tournament of Champions earning exempt berths for the 2025 PBA Tour , Jones understands he can change the course of his career.
âEvery single place counts this week,â Jones said. âThere's no guarantee Iâm going to be able to bowl on the TOC because I have to bowl the pre-tournament qualifier. Every game is the most important game I'm ever going to bowl, until I get to the title match.â
Jones will meet defending champion EJ Tackett in the opening match on Sunday.
Tackett, who won the PBA Shark Championship on Wednesday night, will take over the points lead for the 2024 season regardless of his finish on Sunday. A title, however, would catapult the 31-year-old to the forefront of the Player of the Year conversation.
But first, Tackett must get past the 19-year-old who has shown no signs of being intimidated or backing down.
The PBA World Championship finals begin Sunday at noon Eastern on FOX.

Just a Few of the Biggest Concert Tours of 2024, from Olivia Rodrigo to Bad Bunny
Posted: April 23, 2024 | Last updated: April 23, 2024
Listening to your favorite musician at home is fun, but there's nothing quite like the experience of singing along with them, and tons of more fans, live. And as luck would have it, 2024 is shaping up to be a massive year for some of the world's top musical acts, so chances are your favorite performer might be stopping at a city near you soon.
Ahead, we rounded up some of the biggest concert tours of 2024, ranging from Taylor Swift's mega-popular Eras Tour to Drake and J. Cole's exciting It's All A Blur Tour - Big as the What?âset to kick off this winter. You can also expect tour dates from classic icons like Stevie Nicks, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, and more.
1) Taylor Swift
Undoubtedly one of the biggest concert tours ever, Taylor Swift's Eras Tour will continue right through 2024. The international leg of the tour kicked off in Japan, where she played four shows in Tokyo. She'll also stop in Melbourne, Singapore, Paris, Madrid, London, Milan, and more before returning to the States to play in the fall.
There's nothing like seeing T. Swift IRL, but don't fret if you're unable to nab ticketsâthe Eras Tour movie is now available to stream from the comfort of your home.
2) Olivia Rodrigo
This is not a drillâ"Drivers License" singer Olivia Rodrigo will be hitting the road on tour starting at the end of February. The Guts World Tour runs from February through mid-August and has dates in Nashville, Toronto, Chicago, and New York City, among others. Even cooler? There's nothing quite like a Madonna concert, that's for sure. The singer's Celebration Tour , which started last October, continues straight through the spring with dates in Seattle, San Francisco, Mexico City, and more. Besides her eye-catching sets, chart-topping songs, and impressive choreography, concertgoers also get a glimpse of the performer's fantastic costumes, which include looks from Versace and Jean Paul Gaultier.
8) Bleachers
The New Jersey-founded rock band, which is fronted by Jack Antonoffâknown for producing albums for top acts like Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Lana Del Reyânot only has announced a new album but a new tour , too. The tour's supporting act is Pierce the Veil, which is also worth checking out.
11) Stevie Nicks
The oh-so-magical Stevie Nicks continues her touring streak with a bunch of 2024 concert dates . Set to begin in Atlantic City, NJ on February 10, Nicks will visit a dozen cities throughout the U.S. this year, such as New Orleans, Omaha, and Chicago. "Let's keep this party going in 2024," the singer-songwriter posted on her Instagram in September to announce the newly added tour dates.
12) The 1975
The 1975 is showing no signs of slowing down. The British band, famous for hits like "Somebody Else" and "Robbers," has extended their 2023 tour through 2024. Titled Still...At Their Very Best , the 22-date tour will open in Glasgow on February 8 and conclude in Amsterdam on March 24.

Drake, fresh off his 2023 It's All a Blur tour with 21 Savage, is set to hit dozens of cities starting in February, many of which J. Cole will also be in tow for. Scoop up tickets ASAP, as Drake's shows are known to sell out.
14) Janet Jackson
Superstar Janet Jackson is also extending her 2023 tour, Together Again , into 2024 with dates in Anaheim, Austin, New Orleans, and Hartford. Even cooler? Jackson's supporting act is the 2000s southern rap legend Nelly.
15) Rolling Stones
If you've ever dreamed of seeing the Rolling Stones perform live in person, now's your chance. The iconic rockers, who released their studio album Hackney Diamonds this past fall, are returning on the road for a 16-date tour with shows throughout the United States and Canada. Concertgoers can expect a mix of new tunes and Stones classics.
16) Bruce Springsteen
Famous for countless listenable hits like "Born to Run" and "Glory Days," Bruce Springsteen is set to embark on a massive world tour this year with his band, The E Street Band. The much-anticipated tour will take the Boss and his crew to cities such as Phoenix, San Diego, Dublin, and Madrid, from March through November.
17) John Mayer
Be sure to catch John Mayer's solo tour this year, which will bring the guitarist and crooner to cities throughout Europe. This leg, an extension of his popular 2023 solo tour, will kick off in Stockholm on March 13 and finish in Dublin on March 29.
18) Shania Twain
Okay, this one is technically a residency , but we're excited nonetheless. Shania Twain, most known for her incredible outfits (her hooded leopard print look, anyone?) and hits like "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" is setting up shop in Vegas starting May 10. Twain's residency will take place at the Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood on and off throughout December 2024.
All good things must come to an end. The Eagles, known for "Hotel California" and other amazing rock songs, began their final concert tour this winter. It launched in Phoenix on January 20, with March 16 as its last date in the United States. Eagles fans won't want to miss this one.
20) Alanis Morisette: The Triple Moon Tour
Alanis Morisette joins forces with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts for their 2024 Triple Moon Tour , which has dates in North America and Canada. This tour is a great one to catch this summer, as it's slated to run from June through August.
