Dede/Atilla made the trip to Dalyan a fun and entertaining day. Remembering everyone’s name in an instant, he informed and spoke about the attractions without dulling the experience. We made it to the mud baths early so avoided all the queues and the swim in the lake afterwards was gorgeous. We even saw turtles after a swim at Turtle beach so the day was a huge success. Keep up the good work!

A great experience, cruising around the beautiful turquoise coast. Swimming in beautiful spots with occasional trip to shore. Crew friendly, boat comfortable and food good. Be prepared to rough it a bit although we'll proportioned the cabins are very hot and also noisy if motor or generator is going Most people sleep some or all of the night on deck.

Turquoise Blue - Fethiye / Kekova / Fethiye

Great boat saw so many pretty places the food was excellent and plentiful. However, I could feel the captains reluctance to follow the rout given and his comments were sometimes unkind about us asking to use the tender to go ashore, he said it’s not a taxi and I asked for help to put the side safes up as I couldn’t do it alone he said “ I do it” his attitude wasn’t the best sadly

4 Days Blue Escape from Fethiye to Gocek Tour

4 Days Blue Escape from Fethiye to Gocek

The trip offered a beautiful escape to the breathtaking coves around the bay of Fethiye with plenty of opportunities tor swimming. The crew and especially the skipper were super nice and worked hard to make the boat ride safe and enjoyable. The food prepared by the captain’s wife was delicious. The major drawback for me, as a solo traveler, was being placed on a trip as the only solo traveler with one large tour-group of friends traveling together. It mostly felt like being a guest on their private tour and the captain only communicated with them, including scheduling changes. On the last evening a sunset ride was cancelled without warning because as the captain told me “the others don’t want to go anymore.” Overall I felt like a third-party getting a free ride rather than a full-paying customer. (As expected as a woman of color traveling with a group of wealthy white Americans.) There was also little peace and quiet as the group had pretty much nonstop conversations, including in the evenings after I went to bed and tons of convos about planning their upcoming trip to Israel, which was offensive and triggering for me considering I live in Lebanon and have family and friends in Palestine and endured Israei bombings and occupation in Southern Lebanon. (Common sense while traveling in a Muslim country would be to avoid bragging about visiting a country that oppresses a majority Muslim population.) Though that last part is not the company’s fault, it made the trip kind of depressing at times. My recommendation: don’t place solo travelers as the only extra person with a large group of friends and ask people to respect quiet time.

Fethiye to Istanbul via Pamukkale & Ephesus 6 Day Tour

What people love about turkey tours from fethiye.

What an amazing holiday with the most beautiful sights and people. Turkish people are the most welcoming and friendly I've yet to come across while travelling. Our crew were exceptional and we will remain friends. It was too hot (no Aircon on our boat) to sleep in our beds so we slept on deck....all part of the experience, but the mosquitos were an unwelcome byproduct. Make sure to take something for that - and eye masks for that morning sun :) My advice to the Travel company , is advertise the 'party boat' as exactly that...me and my 52 Yr old partner who were originally assigned to that boat would not have enjoyed the experience listening to 20sumthings doing bodyshots all day! Equally the boats should not be travelling in tandem as the loud party boat meant we couldn't hear ourselves talk over dinner some nights. They should be totally seperate experiences with seperate guides! Already planning a visit back next year!!

Be prepared to rough it a bit although we'll proportioned the cabins are very hot and also noisy if motor or generator is going Most people sleep some or all of the night on deck.
Had an epic week sailing the turquoise coast with Koda sail. The weather was incredible and all the destinations were breathtaking. We had ample free time with well planned visits to local towns and sights. Each meal was delicious and well prepared - meal times were a highlight on the boat! The weather was really warm and folks should expect warm nights sleeping as AC is not permitted after midnight in Turkey - sleeping on deck however was an excellent option and was actually super fun! I travelled solo and made friends for life on this trip - I will be booking another sail in the very near future!

Fethiye is a touristic region located on the southwestern coast of Türkiye . It’s mostly known for its stunning nature, where green, turquoise, and golden meet.

Visit Fethiye & The Ancient City Of Telmessos

In the inland areas of Fethiye, there are lush valleys and beautiful plains, and the shoreline is golden in color, bordered by turquoise Mediterranean water. With many Lycian rock tombs, historical sites, and ruins of ancient cities , Fethiye is a heavenly place.

The oldest settlement in the area is an ancient city called Telmessos, which dates to the 3rd millennium BCE. Until Alexander the Great captured it, Telmessos was an important trade center and a member of the Delian League.

Although the names Telmessos, Makri, and Anastasiopolis were all used interchangeably to refer to the settlement, the title Makri replaced the others and became the region’s name after the 10th century.

In the 12th and 13th centuries, Makri was a thriving community. The enormous city walls , a lucrative perfume company, and a commercial hub indicate a flourishing city.

The area was known as Meğri by the Ottomans, who conquered the area in 1424. Until the nineteenth century, the area was inhabited by Greeks who lived in the nearby villages surrounding the Telmessos ruins. The ruins of those villages and the ancient city of Telmessos can still be seen in Fethiye today.

The Best Beaches In Fethiye

Fethiye is home to paradisiacal spots and gorgeous sights. The stunning beaches of Fethiye offer you the perfect summer with sand, sea, and sun. Here, we’re going to list the best beaches in Fethiye.

1. Ölüdeniz

Things to do in Oludeniz - Blue lagoon in Oludeniz, Turkey

Ölüdeniz is one of the most famous beaches of Fethiye. The extraordinary landscape of the beach combines green hills covered in forests, golden sands, and turquoise waters. If you follow the Lycian path that starts from Ölüdeniz, you might end up getting to some peaceful coves and beaches where you can spend your time without interruptions.

2. Blue Lagoon – Kumburnu Plaji

Everyone has seen pictures of this beach! It’s the most famous part of Oludeniz and one that everyone must visit at least once. Locally known as Kumburnu, this national park has the impossible blue sea on one side and the sheltered, unbelievably clear lagoon on the other.

You can swim on either side, and plentiful sunbeds and amenities are available- although you have to pay. There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes (even a Starbucks!), and the beach stays open until 7 p.m. throughout the summer.

However, a word of warning – tiny jellyfish are in the lagoon side at certain times of the year. While these don’t cause a severe sting, they can still be quite irritating!

3. Belceğiz Beach

This is the main Oludeniz beach that is open for everyone to use. You can take your towel and lay it on the sand for free, or you can pay for a sunbed. The water here is always quite wavy, which can be good fun; however, it quickly goes from shallow to deep.

The good news is that the water here is super-clear, and it’s a scenic beach to sit and enjoy while watching the paragliders land.

Find more things to do in Ölüdeniz here.

4. butterfly valley.

Best beaches in Turkey - Butterfly Valley in Oludeniz

Only accessible by water, Butterfly Valley hosts over a hundred species of butterflies. Although it is challenging to spot butterflies in the summer since they aren’t often around, Butterfly Valley still promises a memorable experience with its serenity and peacefulness.

5. Kabak Beach

Are you ready for a real adventure? Then add Kabak Beach to your list! A truly unspoiled paradise, Kabak Beach has yet to be invaded by resorts and hotels . Travelers may initially find the lack of amenities to be a disadvantage; nevertheless, if you enjoy being in nature and getting away from the monotonous city life, Kabak offers you all you need!

6. Kuleli Beach

Kuleli Beach welcomes thousands of tourists annually with its natural beauty and gorgeous scenery. If you want a relaxing holiday, Kuleli offers you the best option with its crystal-clear water and golden beach. Located between hills, the soothing voice of the wind and the sound of the waves combine and produce a tranquil atmosphere on the beach. From many aspects, Kuleli Beach is one of the best beaches in Fethiye.

7. Gemiler Koyu

Gemiler Cove is a small beach you can reach from Ölüdeniz on a day trip . Around the cove are a few tiny places to eat where you can enjoy fish and regional cuisine. You can swim, dive, and rest in the cove without interruption. And, if you have the time, you can take a day trip from the beach to Gemiler Island, also known as St. Nicholas Island, and explore its ancient remains.

8. Camel Beach

No, there aren’t any camels! The beach gets its name from its shape – like a camel’s hump. You can only get to this great beach by sailing boat; most boat trips stop here. The beach is quiet, small, and ideal for chilling out away from it all.

You’ll need to bring your own food and drinks as there are no cafes, but a few sunbeds are available for a fee.

9. Kidrak Beach

Kidrak beach with a lot of rocks and palm trees.

You can easily reach Kidrak Beach by car or taxi from the town of Oludeniz, which takes less than ten minutes. You pay a minimal entrance fee, but once you’re in, there is a large cafe, a picnic area, a vast beach, plenty of sunbeds, and even small open bungalows for rent. You get a fantastic view of the huge, soaring mountains behind you and back over to Oludeniz.

While the beach is a little rocky at the shoreline, it’s a popular spot to escape the hustle and bustle for a few hours.

10. Paradise Beach

Paradise Beach is the perfect spot if you want to kick back and relax away from mass tourism. The only downside is that it takes an hour by boat tour to get there, but once you do – it’s incredible! This is an excellent place for anyone who loves to snorkel and check out the underwater world – it’s literally packed with all manner of marine life. The pine forests also give plenty of shade, and the water is as clear as clear can be.

You will need to bring your own refreshments to this beach.

11. Help Beach/See Me Beach

Around 10 minutes away from Fethiye Marina by car, you’ll find the comically named Help Beach. This is a private beach club, but anyone can visit as long as you pay the small entrance fee and buy drinks/food during the day.

You’ll have access to premium amenities such as sun loungers, parasols, showers, toilets, and changing facilities. The water is clear and calm, and there’s entertainment and restaurants on site, too.

See Me Beach is another private beach club close to Help Beach and offers the same experience for a small admission fee.

12. Çalış Beach – Sandy Beach

Çalış Beach, nestled along the stunning Turquoise Coast of Turkey, is a sun-soaked paradise that beckons travelers seeking a mix of relaxation and adventure. With its soft, golden sands stretching for miles and the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea gently lapping at the shore, this beach is a haven for sunbathers and water enthusiasts alike.

The beach is renowned for its mesmerizing sunsets, and you’ll find numerous beachfront cafes where you can kick back in a beach chair and savor delicious Turkish cuisine while watching the sun dip below the horizon. What sets Çalış Beach apart is its proximity to the Kızıl Adalar (Red Islands), making it an ideal launch point for boat tours and day trips to explore these enchanting islands.

You can also engage in a variety of water sports, from windsurfing to kitesurfing, or unwind under the shade of the swaying palm trees. Çalış Beach offers a laid-back vibe that welcomes everyone.

14. Visit Kayaköy Ruins

Kayaköy Ghost Town, Turkey

When exploring Fethiye, Turkey, don’t miss the captivating experience of wandering through the historic Kayaköy Ruins.

This ancient village, nestled in the hills just a short drive from Fethiye’s bustling center, offers a unique glimpse into the region’s rich history. As you step into Kayaköy, you’ll be transported back in time to the early 20th century when it was a thriving Greek settlement.

The well-preserved stone houses, churches, and streets that once echoed with the laughter of families now stand as ghostly remnants of the past.

You can’t help but be awed by the eerie yet mesmerizing atmosphere as you explore the deserted homes, their interiors still adorned with remnants of a bygone era.

Be sure to climb to the top of the hill for a panoramic view of the valley below. The best time to visit is during the late afternoon, when the sun casts enchanting shadows over the ruins, making it an ideal spot for history enthusiasts and photographers looking for that perfect shot. Visiting this ancient settlement will no doubt help you better understand the local history.

15. Jeep Safari

It’s a long day, usually picking you up from your hotel at around 8.30 a.m. and not returning until about 6.30 p.m., but you’ll be given a great lunch and love every minute of it.

You’ll be packed into a rugged 4×4 vehicle and shown a day filled with excitement. As you bounce along dirt roads and wind your way through the picturesque countryside, you’ll have the chance to witness the natural beauty of Fethiye up close.

Jeep Safari tours typically include stops at various breathtaking viewpoints, where you can capture some genuinely Instagram-worthy photos. You’ll also get a taste of local life by visiting traditional villages along the way, offering a glimpse into the authentic culture of the region.

And for those seeking an adrenaline rush, there’s often the opportunity to splash through muddy trails and ford streams, making this adventure perfect for thrill-seekers. So, if you’re up for a day of off-road fun and exploration, the Fethiye Jeep Safari is an experience that promises lasting memories and a taste of the rugged side of this stunning Turkish destination.

16. Hike Through Saklikent Gorge

Saklikent Gorge Turkey

Saklikent Canyon is a must-see for everyone who enjoys hiking! Saklıkent means “hidden city” in Turkish. The canyon is 300 meters in depth and 18 kilometers in length, which makes it one of the deepest canyons in the world.

You can participate in organized day tours to the canyon. Although the canyon is open to visitors all year, the deeper areas are only accessible during the summer months due to higher water levels in the winter.

As you venture into the gorge, you’ll find yourself wading through crystal-clear mountain waters, with steep cliffs rising on either side, creating a dramatic and imposing backdrop. The trek through Saklikent Gorge is a refreshing challenge as you navigate the icy riverbed, occasionally requiring a bit of rock-hopping and scrambling. So it is not suitable for kids.

It’s a thrilling and invigorating experience that rewards you with breathtaking views of the gorge’s rugged terrain. For the intrepid, canyoning tours are available, where you can rappel down waterfalls and swim through narrow crevices, adding an adrenaline rush to your adventure.

End it all with a traditional Turkish meal at one of the rustic restaurants perched alongside the gorge, offering a taste of local cuisine amidst stunning natural surroundings. Saklikent Gorge is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking an unforgettable day of exploration and excitement in Fethiye.

17. Admire Xanthos Ruins

Ancient city of Xanthos in Turkey

The Xanthos ruins are about 60 kilometers from Fethiye for those interested in ancient history and architecture. The preserved ruins of the old city, located on a hill near the river Xanthos, are of exceptional magnificence. Roman baths, shops, tombs, and a massive theatre are among the ruins.

The ruins boast impressive tombs and ancient architecture that evoke a sense of wonder, allowing you to walk in the footsteps of the people who once called this great place home. From the impressive Nereid Monument to the intriguing Harpy Tomb, the Xanthos Ruins provide an opportunity to delve into the poignant history of Lycia, making it an absolute must-visit while on vacation in Fethiye.

18. Boat Trips

You’ll find countless boat trips leaving from both Fethiye and Ölüdeniz Beach beach fronts, and they’re all very similar. Before you go, you need to decide whether you want a party-style boat or a chilled-out vibe. If you want to party, go for one of the huge pirate-style boats, as they have foam parties, cocktails, and live music all day.

If you’re more into chilling out, consider hiring a private boat and crew for the day and sail around the countless islands more peacefully. You can also visit Butterfly Valley (Kelebekler Vadisi) without going on a full-day trip that takes you all around the islands. A taxi boat leaves Ölüdeniz beachfront every hour and returns several times throughout the day, with the last service back at 5 p.m.

This is ideal if you only want to go to Butterfly Valley or you want to spend more than half an hour there, which is all a regular boat trip will allow you before you head to the next spot.

19. Kayaköy Ruins

Kayaköy Ghost Town, Turkey

Kayaköy Ruins offers an intriguing glimpse into the region’s rich history and a haunting reminder of a bygone era. This abandoned village, often called the “Ghost Town,” holds the echoes of a once-thriving Greek community that called it home until the early 20th century.

Today, as you wander through its labyrinthine alleyways and crumbling stone houses (be sure to wear closed-in shoes), you’ll find yourself transported back in time. The eerily preserved church ruins, with their fading frescoes, stand as a testament to the village’s vibrant past.

While exploring the site, the silence is only interrupted by the rustling of olive trees, giving you a sense of solitude and reflection. For history buffs and curious travelers, a visit to Kayaköy is a must.

20. Old Town Of Fethiye

Things to do in Fethiye - Fethiye, Turkey - June 9, 2023: Old town in Fethiye or Paspatur pedestrian street with small shops and restaurants, Turkey.

This enchanting quarter is a must-visit for travelers seeking an authentic taste of Fethiye’s character. Wandering through its winding cobblestone streets, you’ll find yourself immersed in the town’s rich heritage. The centuries-old architecture, with its weathered stone facades and wooden shutters, exudes a timeless charm.

I highly recommend you head early to the bustling bazaar, where you can haggle for unique souvenirs, spices, and textiles. As you stroll along, the scent of grilled kebabs wafts from quaint local eateries, tempting your taste buds – so then grab an early lunch and beat the crowds.

21. Visit Calis

Calis is located ten minutes from Fethiye town or around half an hour from Oludeniz. It’s a fantastic place to go for the day. We’ve already mentioned Calis Beach and the sunsets, but the town itself is a nice change from the busy nature of many other local resorts. It’s also a little cheaper here for some reason!

You can enjoy a traditional meal on the beachfront and check out the sunset, or you can take a short walk right down to Fethiye Marina if your feet allow it.

22. Explore The Rock Tombs Of Tlos

Fethiye, Turkey Guide - Tlos ruins and tombs, an ancient Lycian city_Turkey_Depositphotos_625459582_S

The Rock Tombs of Tlos are an extraordinary complex of ancient ruins that include an acropolis, an Ottoman fortress and stable, a necropolis, a stadium, a massive theatre, a Christian-era Basilica and a temple, many school complexes, and an agora.

The ruins are 30 kilometers from the ruins of Xanthos. So, take a day to visit these ancient cities and immerse yourself in Fethiye’s archaic surroundings.

23. Fethiye Castle – Fethiye Kalesi

Fethiye Castle is perched majestically on a hill overlooking the charming town of Fethiye in Turkey. This once-imposing fortress, also known as Fethiye Kalesi or Paspatur Castle, offers you views for days. Said to have been built by the Knights of Rhodes in the 16th century (but some say otherwise), the castle has witnessed centuries of conquests and changes in rulership.

Today, its crumbling walls and towers provide an excellent vantage point for sweeping views of the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the bustling marina below. It will take you around 1-2 hours to hike up – depending on your abilities.

24. Walk The Lycian Way

The Lycian Way is a famous long-distance walking trail that runs from Hisaronu, close to Oludeniz, to Antalya. That’s around 520 km long. Don’t panic; nobody expects you to walk the whole way, but you can walk just a little and check out the sights along the way. Remember to take plenty of water and sun cream with you during the hottest months.

The trail is clearly marked and will take you around what was ancient Lycia, with countless ruins to pass by and explore. This was formerly the trade route of the Lycians, a civilization that dates back to the 14-15th centuries BC.

The walk isn’t challenging in terms of terrain for the most part, but the length is obviously what makes it stand out! With that in mind, walk a little of the coastline and say you’ve been on this famous trail!

25. Gizlikent Waterfall

Things to do in Fethiye - The Gizlikent Waterfall in Mugla, Turkey

Gizlikent Waterfall is a Turkish hidden gem waiting to be explored. This natural wonder is a refreshing escape from the bustling city life, offering a tranquil oasis in the heart of nature.

As you venture into the gorge leading to the waterfall at the end, you’ll find yourself wading through crystal-clear waters and towering canyon walls – go slowly so as not to fall.

The sensation of walking through the rushing river, with the cool breeze and the soothing sound of waterfalls in the background, is nothing short of exhilarating. It’s a thrilling experience that’s suitable for all ages, making it an ideal destination for families with kids five and up.

The waterfall itself is a breathtaking spectacle, cascading down from a height that seems to touch the heavens.  Do not forget to pack your bathers, as you can swim in the natural pools created by the falling water, providing a unique opportunity to cool off on a hot summer day.

26. Eat In The Clouds

Even if you don’t like the idea of paragliding off the massive Babadag Mountain in Oludeniz, that doesn’t mean you can’t go up there and check out the views from the top.

There is also a lovely restaurant at the 1700 meter mark, where you can have breakfast, lunch, or dinner, a coffee, ice cream, and check out the view. It’s incredible at sunset, too.

27. Fethiye Bazaar

Things to do in Fethiye - Fabrics, textiles and Turkish rugs for sale at the local bazaar in Fethiye

I am at the end, and I know I already mentioned the Fethiye Bazaar, but then I had a thought – this should really be an item all on its own.

These bustling local markets are so vibrant, located in the heart of Fethiye’s Old Town. As you step into this lively and colorful maze of stalls, you’ll be greeted by a kaleidoscope of sights, sounds, and aromas. The bazaar comes alive with a symphony of voices as friendly vendors enthusiastically peddle their wares, from handcrafted textiles and intricate ceramics to aromatic spices and fresh produce.

It’s the perfect place to practice your haggling skills ( find my guide on haggling here ), as bargaining is not just encouraged but expected. As you wander through the labyrinthine lanes, you’ll discover an array of treasures, including traditional Turkish carpets, unique jewelry, and a tantalizing assortment of street food vendors offering mouthwatering local delicacies.

I suggest that you plan to live like a local and stop to savor a cup of Turkish coffee or tea at one of the charming cafes scattered throughout the market.

28. Turkish Bath

Turkish Baths For Women Guide

When you find yourself in Turkey, one experience that’s an absolute must-try is indulging in the rejuvenating world of Turkish baths, also known as hammams.

These traditional Turkish baths are not just about cleansing your body but also about pampering your soul. Step into a beautifully designed, centuries-old marble chamber, where the air is thick with the soothing scent of eucalyptus and the sound of running water—a friendly local attendant dressed in a traditional sarong-like pestemal guides you through the ritual.

You’ll start with a steamy sauna session to open up your pores and relax your muscles. Then, you’ll be treated to a thorough exfoliating scrub, leaving your skin feeling as smooth as silk.

Following that, a gentle bubble massage will wash away any remaining stress. It’s not just a bath; it’s a sensory journey, a way to immerse yourself in Turkish culture and hospitality while leaving you feeling utterly refreshed and rejuvenated.

So, don’t miss the chance to experience the magic of Turkish baths in Fethiye – it’s a delightful escape from the ordinary.

29. A Day Trip To Gemiler Island

Turkish Islands - Gemiler

Gemiler Island, also known as St. Nicholas Island, is located off the coast of Türkiye and has ruins of historic churches, ecclesiastical buildings, and over fifty Christian burials.

This island is said to contain the grave of St. Nicholas, the primary model for Santa Claus. You can take a day trip from Fethiye to Gemiler Island for quite an affordable price. Plus, since the island is relatively small, you can spare a few hours to visit the entirety of Gemiler Island.

30. Rock Tomb Of Amyntas

In Fethiye, you’ll find the Amyntas Rock Tombs, offering a fascinating journey back in time. Carved into the rugged cliffs and hillsides, these ancient Lycian tombs are a testament to the rich history of this region.

Dating back to the Lycian civilization, which thrived from the 6th century BCE to the 4th century CE, these rock-cut tombs are a remarkable blend of architecture and history. What’s impressive is that these tombs aren’t just simple caves in the rock; some feature intricate facades resembling Lycian house fronts.

These facades often showcase ornate reliefs and inscriptions, shedding light on Lycian burial customs and beliefs.

Visiting the Amyntas Rock Tombs is an adventure. As you make your way up the hillside to explore these ancient chambers, the panoramic views of Fethiye and the Mediterranean Sea unfold before your eyes. It’s a jaw-dropping backdrop that perfectly complements the mystique of the tombs. And the best part? You can climb up to these tombs and wander around for a closer look—no velvet ropes or glass barriers here.

It’s an interactive history lesson with a side of stunning scenery.

31. Letoon Temple

In the captivating region of Lycia, just a stone’s throw away from Xanthos and Patara, you’ll discover the Letoon Temple, another remarkable archaeological gem. This ancient sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, provides a vivid window into the world of Lycian history and mythology. The Letoon served as a religious and administrative center for the ancient Lycian Federation, dating back to the 4th century BCE.

As you explore the site, you’ll encounter a well-preserved theater, a nymphaeum with intricate reliefs, and a fascinating three-temple complex dedicated to Leto, Apollo, and Artemis. The exquisite carvings and inscriptions found here offer insights into Lycian culture and their devotion to their deities.

One of the most captivating aspects of Letoon is its connection to Greek mythology. Leto, the mother of Apollo and Artemis, was said to have taken refuge in this very spot. As you stroll through the temple ruins, you can’t help but feel transported back in time, imagining the ancient rituals and ceremonies that once took place here.

Where To Stay In Fethiye

Where you stay in the Fethiye region depends on what you want and who you travel with. For instance, the Oludeniz area is ideal for couples, friends, and families but is considerably more expensive than other resorts. The reasons for that are unclear, but it’s possible that it’s because of the famous Blue Lagoon and the fact that this resort is world renowned for paragliding. Of course, you’re never more than a few minutes’ walk away from the beach too.

However, if you want a chilled-out time, some great food, and close proximity to amazing experiences and natural sites, it might be worth paying a little extra.

Alternatively, you will find both Hisaronu and Ovacik around a ten-minute taxi drive up the hill. These hilltop resorts do not have a beach but offer a cheaper holiday experience with countless bars, restaurants, and shops. It’s also effortless to get down to Oludeniz beach by taxi or by dolmus.

These two resorts are ideal for groups, families, or those who want to save a little cash. Hisaronu, in particular, is very lively during the evening hours!

Fethiye, including Calis, offers similar holiday vibes, albeit more spread out and in a more city-like structure. Fethiye offers cheaper accommodation than Oludeniz, but you will need to get a bus or taxi to the beach in most cases. Calis is a great spot for families and couples, while the rest of Fethiye is an all-around kind of deal!

Most people don’t realize the sheer scale of the Fethiye region. So, make sure you double-check the area you intend to stay in so you do not have to spend a large amount of cash on buses and taxis to visit the beach or a particular site regularly.

Fethiye hosts many luxury hotels with high-quality facilities for its international visitors. As one of Türkiye’s most popular tourist destinations, most resorts and hotels in Fethiye provide a delightful stay – here are a few to choose from…

48 hours in Fethiye – A 2 day Itinerary

Turkey’s Turquoise Coast is a prime sun-and-sea area, so it’s no surprise that this is where you’ll find Fethiye.

While you could while an entire week in this small resort town strolling around the Old Town and lounging on the beach, this 2-day itinerary for Fethiye will allow you to see all the highlights of this Turkish paradise.

Fethiye, Turkey is on Turkey’s southwest coast around 200 km west of Antalya on the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea.

It is a port city with a beautiful natural harbour, a long stretch of beach, blue waters, and a long, varied history with ruins and caves dating back to the 4th century BC. There are many things to do in Fethiye, Turkey no matter what kind of trip you take want.

This part of Turkey has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot, dry summers. The best time to visit Fethiye for the hottest weather is June to September when temperatures often climb to 35°C (around 95°F). This is also Fethiye’s busiest and most expensive season.

May and October are the shoulder seasons with warm weather and cheaper prices. Avoid visiting in the winter months as Fethiye is a resort town and many restaurants and attractions will be closed.

The best part of Fethiye to stay in for tourists is Downtown Fethiye in the heart of the city close to all the amenities and harbour. If you’re only spending 2 days in Fethiye, you don’t want to spend your entire trip taking transportation everywhere!

Overview of 2 Days in Fethiye Itinerary

Here’s a glance at what you’ll see and do in two days in Fethiye:

Day 1 in Fethiye

Enjoy breakfast at kamkat cafe, lake köyceğiz, visit i̇ztuzu beach, grab lunch at turtle beach restaurant, amyntas rock tombs, eat dinner at middoor restorant cafe&bar, shop at the fethiye market in old town, day 2 in fethiye, enjoy breakfast at gogo the eatery, discover the ghost town of kayaköy, swim in the ölüdeniz blue lagoon, grab lunch at inci_restaurant, boat ride to butterfly valley , sunset paragliding experience, eat dinner at the pinehill alacarte restaurant.

Fethiye, southern end of the town and marina Turkey

Start your 48 hrs in Fethiye with breakfast at Kamkat Cafe , a relaxed restaurant near Fethiye’s Çalış Beach.

They have a covered outdoor terrace and serve a range of local Turkish and Mediterranean dishes as well as more classic breakfast dishes (bread, preserves, pastries, etc.) that you might be more used to back home.

Lake Koycegiz is 100 km up the coast from Fethiye but it’s totally worth travelling the distance. Plus, there are other things to do in this area that make the journey worthwhile.

Lake Koyegiz isn’t just a beautiful lake, but it also has natural mug baths, a sandy lake-side beach and beautiful views of the surrounding area.

You could also take a boat ride on the lake or simply stroll around the promenade if you don’t feel like getting wet (or getting muddy).

Panorama of mountain lake Koycegiz at sunset in Turkey

There are many great beaches in Fethiye but some are better than others. While Fethiye’s local beach Çalış is long and sandy with great waters for swimming in, Iztuzu Beach has something that it doesn’t: loggerhead turtles! Plus, it’s just a short distance away from Kale Koycegiz.

These turtles lay their eggs from May to October and access to the beach is usually prohibited during the night at this time to protect the eggs. Hatching season is from November to April.

Sun loungers on a famous Iztuzu beach in Turkey

While you’re at Iztuzu Beach, stay for lunch at the local beachside restaurant . It’s a relaxed seafood eatery with excellent reviews. You can either consume your catch in the restaurant or get your food to take away and eat on the beach.

Head back to Fethiye and discover one of the most important historical ruins in the town. The Anyntas Rock Tombs of Fethiye are similar to the Lycian Rock Tombs of Myra which are much further down the coast.

These rock tombs are much closer to Fethiye as they literally overlook the harbour so they’re in a much more convenient location at the end of the Fethiye Kordon hiking trail. Or you can take this day tour to see Anyntas Rock Tombs .

They are the remains of the Greek ancient city of Telmessos dating back to the 4th century BC. Like Petra in Jordan, they are hewn into the cliff face.

They are one of the ancient architectural wonders of Turkey and are well worth visiting up close. Not to mention the view of Fethiye from where the rock tombs are is spectacular.

Back in Fethiye, enjoy eating dinner at Middoor . It’s located right on the beach and has a relaxed, covered outdoor terrace overlooking the coastline. They serve a mix of local Turkish dishes and seafood.

Fethiye is a beach town that really comes alive at night. Take the opportunity on the first night of your 2-day itinerary for Fethiye to get lost in the winding cobbled streets of the Old Town. Stop by Fethiye Market to see if you can source any cool, local items or souvenirs to take home with you.

FETHIYE, TURKEY. A traditional Turkish carpet shop in fethiye, turkey,

Instead of eating right on the beach for breakfast on your second day in Fethiye, head into the heart of the Old Town and stop by Gogo The Eatery . This café has a cool vibe and serves artisanal coffee with western breakfasts like eggs benedict. They have a beautiful, upmarket outdoor terrace too.

Yesterday you explored the coastline west of Fethiye, today it’s time to explore the cool spots along the eastern coast. The first stop on your itinerary will be the ghost town of Kayakoy .

Kayakoy was first inhabited during the time of the Ancient Greeks and remained inhabited until the 20th century during the Greco-Turkish War. All Greek Orthodox residents (which was most, if not all of them) were exiled and therefore left the village abandoned.

It’s an incredible sight to see so many old houses left completely empty and it’s a must-see when staying in Fethiye.

abandoned and destroyed ghost town kayakoy in Turkey

After visiting Kayakoy, head further down the coast to the Oludeniz Blue Lagoon. Unlike the Blue Lagoon in Iceland , this is simply an area of coastline near Oludeniz that is an incredibly vibrant and vivid blue.

Part of the coastline is almost totally enclosed due to the shape of the beaches so this part, especially, is Oludeniz’s Blue Lagoon.

You can swim in it as the whole coastline is very clean and calm or you can just admire how blue and beautiful it looks! Visiting in summer is key because only then will you see the vibrancy of the water.

Aerial view of sea bay, sandy beach with umbrellas, trees, mountain at sunny day in summer. Blue lagoon in Oludeniz, Turkey. Tropical landscape with island, white sandy bank, blue water. Top view

Before leaving the area, enjoy lunch at INCI Restaurant on Oludeniz Beach which is also near the Blue Lagoon. It’s in an easy-to-reach location and serves standard western food alongside seafood stews and Turkish dishes. It’s relaxed and the view is lovely.

There are several ways to reach the Butterfly Valley nature reserve, but the easiest is to take a ferry or water taxi from Olundeniz as it’s right on the coast. Otherwise, you’d have a long, arduous hike as there are no main roads that access this largely untouched area! Another option is joining this tour .

Hiking through Butterfly Valley will allow you to be completely surrounded by over 100 species of rare and diverse butterflies. Some of the rare species are the orange, black, and white Jersey Tiger varieties.

In total, the Butterfly valley is around 86,000 sqm. You’ll only be able to see a small fraction of that on your trip but you won’t regret making the effort.

The Butterfly Valley (kelebekler vadisi) in the city of Oludeniz/Fethiye in western Turkey. You can only reach this valley by boat or rock climbing

Finish your 48 hours in Fethiye with a bang by braving one of the most popular adrenaline-inducing activities in the area: paragliding! It’s the best way to truly appreciate the vivid blues of the Blue Lagoon and the stunning Fethiye coastline.

There are lots of tandem paragliding companies by the beach so you’ll have no problems finding one with availability and great reviews.

Tours in Fethiye

Paragliding in ölüdeniz.

No Fethiye itinerary is complete without taking a tour, half-day, or full-day trip to somewhere in the local area.

There are just too many awesome things to see and experience! One of the top activities for travellers to do outside of Fethiye is to paraglide over Olundeniz .

The harbours, the nature reserves, the beaches… It’s just such a beautiful place! The weather allows for paragliding almost year-round and it’s much cheaper to paraglide here than in many other places around the world.

River Cruise and Dalyan Mud Baths

There are lots of natural wonders around Fethiye and this tour combines many of them. You can take a cruise up the River Ortaca, visit Turtle Beach (its official name is Iztuzu) and explore the Dalyan Coast.

This tour also includes a visit to Köyceğiz Lake and the Lycian tombs so if you’re short on time you’ll be able to many of the wider Fethiye area’s highlights in one go with a knowledgeable, local guide on hand to explain a lot of the local history too.

SULTANIYE, TURKEY - People are taking a mud bath.

Scuba Diving Experience

Fethiye’s calm, clear turquoise waters (it is the Turquoise Coast, after all) make this a fantastic place for a diving experience if you’re a scuba diving newbie and want to try it out. This half-day tour will give you the perfect taster.

You’ll explore coral reefs, submerged caves, and lots of colourful fish on this at least two epic dives. Safety is paramount and lunch is also included.

Day Trip to Saklikent National Park

Turkey has 45 national parks and Saklikent National Park is only 45 km/28 miles or a 50-minute drive from Fethiye. It’s the perfect place for a half-day or full-day tour!

You can hike up the deep river Saklikent Gorge and visit the ancient Lycian city of Tlos near the national park.

Saklikent Canyon is the deepest canyon in southern Turkey, Goynuk canyon Saklikent, located in District of Kemer, Antalya Province

Is it better to stay in Fethiye or Oludeniz?

Oludeniz is another small, coastal resort town in Turkey only 20 km/12.5 miles along the coast from Fethiye, which is only a 20-minute drive. Oludeniz is a more typical touristy beach resort town with more people, high-rise resort hotels and a busier beach. If you prefer a more typical beach resort town, Oludeniz.

However, most travellers would probably prefer staying in Fethiye. It’s less touristy but still has all the amenities you need and lots of gorgeous resorts and accommodation options to choose from. Plus, you can easily take a day trip to Oludeniz so by staying in Fethiye you will get to explore both Fethiye and Oludeniz.

In a nutshell, it’s better to stay in Fethiye than in Oludeniz!

17 Best Things to Do in Fethiye (& Day Trip Ideas!)

17 Best Things to Do in Fethiye (& Day Trip Ideas!)

Fethiye is most famous for its strikingly beautiful Ölüdeniz beach, which attracts thousands of tourists every year both locally and internationally. However, this charming coastal city located in the southwest of Turkey is full of other gems to discover.

Let’s first take a look at the city center of this once-ancient city of Telmessos, one of the most significant cities of Lycian civilization, and then focus on the other sightseeing activities in Fethiye region with a section on the best day trips from Fethiye.

Things to Do in Fethiye: Inside the City Center

Fethiye is home to several structures that still stand today showing the city’s cultural and flourishing background.

Shop at the Old Orient Carpet and Kilim Bazaar

Fethiye - Colorful prayer mat woven carpets

If you are into Turkish carpets and kilims, you should definitely check out this shop.

Celal Coşkun, the owner of Old Orient Carpet & Kilim Bazaar, offers classes and workshops to teach the art of carpet making and repairing, a dying tradition day by day.

Address: Çarşı Caddesi 45 Sokak No: 5, Paspatur, Fethiye

Get cultured at the Fethiye Museum

If you are a history enthusiast, you should visit Fethiye Museum that displays Trilingual Stele  dating back to 338 BC.

There are exhibits of statuary and votive stones like Stelae of Promise and Grave Stelae as well as pottery and jewelry. There is a mosaic featuring a floral center, a bow and arrow, and a lyre from Letoön’s Temple of Apollo.

This small museum has also a garden where you can see Roman tombstones and Lycian sarcophagi. Get your museum pass card ready! The museum can be visited between 9 AM and 5 PM.

Address: Kesikkapı, 505. Sk. No:4

Grab a bite at Yeşil Asma Yapraği

Rolled pastry with spinach inside

Tired of walking around? You can try Yeşil Asma Yaprağı restaurant, a “lokanta” favorite of locals. The menu concentrates on Turkish cuisine like roasted chicken, “sarma,” spinach “börek,” and meat casseroles.

The restaurant has air conditioning so that you can escape the hot weather for a while, especially important if you are visiting during summer. The restaurant is open between 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM

Address: Cumhuriyet, Dispanser Cd. No 15/A

Shop with locals at the Weekly Market

Woman picking out Turkish delight in market

If you really want to get to know the culture of a city, you should definitely visit local weekly markets, and Fethiye is no exception.

Taking place along the canal next to the stadium every Tuesday, this enormous market offers vegetables, fruits, clothes, house equipment, food…everything you can think of. It is the cheapest way to shop, as well as the richest in its diversity of offerings.

Sun yourself like James Bond at Çalış Beach

Aerial view of turquoise beach on Calis Beach

Are you a Daniel Craig fan? Remember the scene James Bond was waking up in a cozy place by the sea in “Skyfall” with actress Berenice Marlohe? Well, the scene was shot in Çalış Beach!

The props were taken from Güven’s Bar and Restaurant while Daniel Craig stayed at the Yacht Classic Hotel on the beach – which, incidentally, is a fantastic place to stay when in Fethiye .

The Best Things to Do Around Fethiye

Visit the marvelous ölüdeniz beach.

focus tours fethiye

Meaning “dead sea” in Turkish, Ölüdeniz is far away from being dead! Rather, it is full of life thanks to thousands of tourists coming to visit this heavenly blue sea.

Being one of the most famous beaches of Turkey, 15 kilometers of white soft sand lays rimmed by dense trees. The sea does not get deep quickly, therefore you can walk a lot till you can dive in the water completely.

That’s why families with kids also prefer the lagoon, which gives them a safe environment to play. The sand is so fine and thin — great for walking on the beach, but it also means that you take a lot of it home!

Jump from the peak of Baba Dağ

focus tours fethiye

Ölüdeniz is also famous for paragliding! If you head to Baba Dağ, you can find paragliding facilities. Be careful to go with a reputable tour company! We recommend this paragliding company as they are the best-rated in Fethiye.

You might change your mind when you encounter the heights… so you can have a few drinks at Zirve Bar & Restaurant next to the takeoff area if you chicken out. You can watch people taking off every 5 minutes, and maybe you pluck up your courage to paraglide yourself (just don’t let it be liquid courage – it’s definitely not safe to fly while intoxicated!)

At this altitude, the air can get cold pretty quickly, especially as it gets closer to sunset. Don’t forget to take your coat with you in case you decide to hang out at the peak for more drinks to watch the stars sparkle overhead.

Walk around the abandoned village of Kayaköy

focus tours fethiye

Once ancient Karmylassos, today’s Kayaköy is an eerie, mostly abandoned stone village located just 8 kilometers from Fethiye.

Until the 1923 Population Exchange was signed, this was a village full of Greeks and Turks living together. The law changed everything, making the people depart from the village to Greek islands and other parts of Turkey.

Today, this abandoned village attracts tourists who would like to see the ruins from that time, Katapongagia Church and Taxiarchis Church (two Greek churches) being some of them.

Visit the majestic ancient city of Kaunos

Temples carved into rock on cliff

Dating back 3,000 years, the Ancient City of Kaunos has made to UNESCO’s World Heritage Tentative List with its rock tombs, temples, and theater. The ancient city is located in Dalyan, a one-hour car drive away from Fethiye city center.

If you are interested in the history of the region, Kaunos is a must-see, where merchant ships once departed to the Mediterranean and the Aegean Seas. To best experience Kaunos, take a boat ride by the Dalyan River in order to see the tombs with temple facades.

Take a mud bath

Iztuzu Beach strip of sand seperating two bodies of water

By the way, do not forget to take a mud bath on Iztuzu Beach! The mud is famous for healing skin ailments, and locals often come to the area to relax.

The gray mud dries on the skin, quickly working like a body mask to heal the irritated areas. It doesn’t smell that nice, just saying! The smell comes from the sulfur in the mud, which is part of what makes it so healing.

There are plenty of boat operators that work in Dalyan, therefore you don’t have to book in advance. Just be spontaneous!

Visit sea turtles

focus tours fethiye

Iztuzu Beach is also home to the Sea Turtle Rescue Center (DEKAMER), a facility that helps injured turtles, as well as newborn sea turtles, reach the sea. You don’t have to pay anything to see the sea turtles in the conservation. Note that feeding and touching them are strictly forbidden.

Be careful with the season! Iztuzu Beach is a nesting site and closed from 8 PM to 8 AM during nesting months. If you’re visiting in the non nesting months (which vary by year), you can visit in the evening freely. The 5 kilometer-long beach is also fantastic during sunset time.

Take a safari tour at Saklıkent Gorge

Mountain stream full of smooth rocks with raised boardwalk

The ravine is located in the mountains of Akdaglar and 30 kilometers away from the city center. The area is famous for trekking on the wooden boardwalks built above the river. The water is extremely cold, therefore do not consider swimming… unless you are from Russia or Sweden! You can go rafting, however, along the river.

There are safari tours starting from Saklıkent, a full-day activity diving into the deep forest areas, hiking through the gorge, having lunch by the river, and then heading to Patara to relax on the beach. The final destination of the safari tours is the ruins of Tlos. The tours include transfers from and to the hotel you are staying.

Check out the longest beach in all of Turkey

Long white sandy beach with hills in distance

Being Turkey’s longest beach, Patara is the idyllic spot for a sunbathing break. Once a significant city of Lycia, you can also see several ruins by the beach in Patara, a perfect combination of history and seaside. Legend says that St. Nicholas of Myra who is “Santa Claus” as we call it today, was born in Patara in the 4th century!

The nearby archaeological site Pinara is less populated with tourists, compared to other Lycian sites in the region. There are more than 900 monolithic house tombs and rock tombs in the ruins of the Lycian city of Pinara. The area around the antique theater is fantastic, as you enjoy the mountain peaks and dense forest that surrounds you.

Visit the historic cities of Letoön and Xanthos

Rock pillars at ancient historical site of Xanthos

Letoön is another UNESCO protected city in the Fethiye region. The legend says that it was dedicated to the God Leto, who had an affair with Zeus. Leto was sent to exile to Lycia by Hera, Zeus’s wife. There are three temples in the religious center dedicated to Apollo, Artemis, and Leto.

You should also check out Apollo Temple in Xanthos, once the capital of Lycia, supposedly the oldest republic of the world. The city walls by the Hellenistic city gate date back to the 3rd century.

While under UNESCO heritage listing, unfortunately, the city’s most stunning monuments were sent to England in the 19th century. What remains are acropolis, the theater, and the agora.

Get some peace and quiet in the Butterfly Valley

Beautiful isolated beach between two cliffs and a valley

Do you want to break free from all humanity? Then we have good news for you. Butterfly Valley is only reachable by boats that take off from Ölüdeniz or hiking from the cliffs of Faralya. Either way, it requires effort to get there… meaning tourists often don’t go there.

Going by boat from Ölüdeniz is the safer choice. We encourage you not to choose the trekking option unless you are an expert. There have been fatal incidents reported in the area due to losing concentration during hiking because of hot weather and the steep cliffs. Don’t forget to check out the schedule of the buses that will take you to the boats, as they are limited in number.

Once you are in the valley, you will find yourself surrounded by lush forest and spectacular beaches to discover. There are tree houses and humble accommodations here and there. Local and international visitors to Butterfly Valley make it a tradition to come here for the campfires at night, and the community spirit resembles the 60s hippie movement.

There are more than 85 different species of butterfly live in the valley, hence the name. The best time to see the butterflies is in June. If you really want to see the butterflies at rest, be careful not to be noisy and avoid crowded groups.

There is also a waterfall at the end of the valley. The road to the waterfall involves climbing, so get your water-resistant, well-tractioned shoes ready because you might slip with your flip-flops!

If you are planning to spare only a day for the valley, we recommend this day trip.

Spend the night in lovely Faralya

A beautiful breakfast spread overlooking a turquoise sea in Faralya

I have saved the best gem at the end of this article. A hidden hilltop village, Faralya is home to spectacular boutique hotels. Locals prefer these hotels for their honeymoon. Other people come to visit them for their yoga lessons that take place either by the Mediterranean or in the depths of the forest. You can only imagine how fresh the air is here!

Kabak Bay is a beautiful body of water that is under state protection is located just beneath Faralya. This is a valley of clean beaches and lavish nature with campsites. There are different kinds of animals and plants in the region. If you like camping, there is not a better camping atmosphere around! You don’t have to come ready with your own tent; there is equipment available for camping if you have a change of heart!

The locals of Faralya are really into bees and making organic honey. The honey here is a premium quality, so be sure to buy a few jars on the way back home!. If you are into cooking, you should also buy some sage. If you get a cold, you can consume in in the form of tea in winter, as well – it’s very good for you!

Since you are into the heart of the Aegean region, don’t leave before you have breakfast or dinner. The ingredients used are all organic and hence healthy. You can also buy olive oil produced from the local olive trees!

If you hike all the way up to Faralya, you have earned watching the sunset from the cliffs. Just take your time to relax, enjoy the views, and think about your life as you gaze into the hypnotic view of the Mediterranean!

What to Pack for Fethiye

Greece - Crete - Heraklion - Old Venetian Harbor Luggage

We have a guide of  what to pack for Turkey , but here are five things you definitely want to bring with you!

The Lonely Planet Turkey :  a good guidebook can help you with the kinds of safety tips you need if you’re out in the city and feel a bit lost, especially if you don’t have internet or a cell signal. These also have specific neighborhood information that will help you in different parts of the city, and it’s a great supplement to blog posts like this one!

Unlocked Cell Phone:  Stephanie and I both have unlocked cell phones that we bought in Europe (Stephanie uses a  Samsung  and I use an  iPhone ). This allows up to get sim cards when we travel so that we always have the internet. This has gotten us out of so many jams! If you don’t have an unlocked cell phone that can use a Turkish sim card, you can buy a cheaper  unlocked phone online  and bring it with you!

Pacsafe Citysafe  or Other Anti-Theft Bag:  This is the bag both Stephanie and I use for all our travels. It has a pouch with RFID technology so our credit cards can’t get scanned from afar, interlocking zippers to make it harder to pickpocket, and it’s roomy enough to be a perfect sightseeing day bag, yet it’s still quite stylish for all of its security features. If you’d rather bring something smaller, you can pack a  money belt   instead.

Grayl Water Filter :  While the water is *technically* safe to drink in much of Turkey, I would still avoid it. If you don’t want to be buying millions of plastic water bottles, you can get a reusable water bottle that comes with a water filter so that you can stick to the tap water and reduce your plastic waste. If you’ll be traveling outside of the major tourist centers, check if the water is potable locally.

Seabands:  If you get seasick easily, pack some Seabands or   seasickness pills  so you don’t miss out on the best parts of Turkey – being on the water! A trip to Turkey isn’t complete without a cruise or at least a quick boat trip, so make sure you’re prepared to enjoy it to the fullest!

Welcome & thank you for reading our blog. :) We love what we do and put a lot of work in our free articles. We hope you find what you are looking for!

Top things to do in Fethiye - Turquoise coast of Turkey

About Fethiye and Oludeniz

Fethiye and Oludeniz are beautiful towns on the Turquoise coast of Turkey with fabulous beaches and world-class paragliding.

Oludeniz near Fethiye is known as one of the best places to paraglide in Turkey (and in the world!). If you’re into adrenaline-pumping activities, then this will be right up your street!

However, if that doesn’t take your fancy, there are many other things to do here.

If you’re looking for a relaxing time, then the town’s marina is great for that! You can eat by the sea or shop in the streets parallel to it. There are also a few beaches in the area if you feel like getting some sun.

This area’s clear, turquoise waters are known as one of Turkey’s most beautiful.

Top things to do in Fethiye and Oludeniz

It seems like this area of the Turquoise Coast of Turkey has a bit of everything for everyone, so let’s dive into the top things to do in Fethiye and Oludeniz!

1. Go paragliding in Oludeniz

Oludeniz is known as one of the top places for paragliding in the world, so you can’t miss an opportunity to try it yourself if you’re already here!

You can paraglide from almost 2000m straight down to 0m at Oludeniz’s beach. And it’s absolutely the best thing to do in Fethiye!

Arijana Tkalčec with Reaction Paragliding in Oludeniz, Turkey

If you want to try it out, you can head to the main street in the town, where you can find the companies that offer paragliding. We did it with Reaction Paragliding which is one of the top paragliding companies in Oludeniz.

You can also book your paragliding in advance online .

For all the adrenaline junkies, you can even ask them to do some tricks while in the air to make your heart pump. It’s so much fun, trust us!

Travel tip: Make sure to book in advance as this is a very popular activity here. And it’s also weather dependent, so you’ll want to do it in the first days of your stay. It’s a very similar process to hot air ballooning in Cappadocia .

RECOMMENDED TOURS

2. Drive the scenic road towards Butterfly Valley viewpoint

The scenic route with ocean views from Oludeniz to Butterfly Valley is a beautiful drive through the foothills of Babadag Mountain . It’s stunning just before the sunset.

We drove this route a couple of times and never got bored. And you can also stop by a few beautiful beaches on the way.

Scenic coastal roads of Oludeniz, Fethiye, Turkey

3. Butterfly Valley Viewpoint

After driving the coastal road towards the Butterfly Valley and reaching the viewpoint, check out the view of the valley below.

Even though you can’t climb down to the Butterfly Valley from this viewpoint, the view is pretty impressive, so it’s worth a short stop.

Butterfly Valley viewpoint, Fethiye, Turkey

Travel tip: The viewpoint is pretty popular, so it will be crowded for sure. If you want a more peaceful perspective, just drive about 100 meters further, and you’ll find an equally beautiful view, just with fewer people.

Photo tip: At the end of October, the valley was almost constantly in the shadow. We came three times during different times of the day and never caught it entirely in the sun. So keep that in mind if you want great photos of this place.

Essentially the only way to get to the Butterfly Valley is to go there by boat. You can get a tour in Fethiye, and it usually includes some other spots as well.

4. Ride the cable car from Oludeniz to Babadag mountain

The cable car takes you from Oludeniz to the top of the Babadag mountain , from where you can enjoy a fantastic 360 view of the area.

It is an excellent, newly opened attraction that will just continue getting better with time.

There are a few different so-called levels of the mountain, and you can even grab something to eat or drink while enjoying the scenery.

Babadag mountain cable car, Fethiye

The cable car takes you to the first stop at 1200 meters and the second at 1700 meters. From there, you can also get even higher with a chair lift. There is also a path that leads even higher from the chair lift and reaches the top of the mountain, but it was not open when we were there.

Babadag Mountain is also a perfect place to observe paragliders (as they take off from the top of Babadag Mountain).

Even if you might not want to try it yourself, watching them jump and fill the sky is also a fantastic experience.

Price: about $9 for a round ticket per person

Opening time: 7 am-8 pm every day (some stops may close sooner)

5. Enjoy the beaches of Fethiye and Oludeniz.

Fethiye and Oludeniz have some fantastic beaches (both sandy and pebble ones) with beautiful turquoise water. We couldn’t believe that this color was genuine.

Turquoise water of Fethiye, Turkey

Some of the most famous beaches around Fethiye are:

  • Oludeniz/Blue Lagoon
  • Belcekiz beach
  • Kelebekler Vadisi/Butterfly Valley (accesible by boat)
  • Kabak beach
  • Kidrak beach
  • Calis beach

We chose the small Kidrak beach as it looked terrific while we were driving around, and it had the least people at that time. All others are excellent choices as well.

While you can find WiFi practically everywhere, in hotels, cafes, restaurants, and even beach bars, having a reliable mobile package in Turkey is the way to go. We recommend the unlimited data eSIM packages from Holafly .

6. Shopping in Oludeniz

Like many other coastal towns, Oludeniz also has many shops that sell clothes, souvenirs, and Turkish coffee.

It’s also famous for many fake brand shops with great prices and quality.

Oludeniz is also where you can arrange most of your activities and tours, as many companies have offices here. They’re all located on the main road leading towards the beach.

Also, make sure to go for a drink or food on the street in front of the beach. There you can enjoy the view of paragliders landing right next to you.

7. Explore the ruins of the Kayakoy abandoned village

If you’re looking for something fun to do outside of Fethiye, a great option is to make a trip to the Kayakoy abandoned village .

This village is about a 15-minute drive from Fethiye, and it’s a great place to explore.

The village was abandoned in the 1920s, and it’s now a popular tourist destination. It offers some great photo opportunities, so make sure you have your camera ready!

Travel tip: There is some kind of an opening time, but you can more or less ignore it as you can enter the village whenever you want.

Read more about it in our Kayakoy travel guide .

8. Hike through the Saklikent Gorge

The Saklikent Gorge , meaning a hidden city, is an 18 kilometer long and 300-meter high canyon. It’s one of the deepest canyons in the world!

Saklikent Gorge, The deepest canyon in Turkey

Even though it’s 18 km long, only around 4 km is walkable.

The first part of the path (very short) is on a wooden boardwalk, and in the second part, you walk through ankle-deep water. Although the water can get up to knee-deep, depending on the season you visit.

Read more about visiting Saklikent Gorge.

The gorge is about a 45-minute drive from Fethiye, and it’s well worth the trip. The scenery is absolutely stunning, so don’t miss out on this unique attraction!

Walking through the ankle deep water in Saklikent Gorge

Travel tip: Even though you can rent out their rubber shoes, we suggest taking your own. Maybe take something you don’t feel that much sorry for, or that can survive walking through water and clay/mud.

Price: around $1 per person

9. Check out the Lycian Tombs of Fethiye

A short visit to the Lycian Tombs (also called Amyntas tomb) right inside Fethiye is a great way to explore ancient ruins.

The Lycian Tombs were built in the 4th century BC, and they provide a great example of Lycian architecture. Plus, you can see a beautiful view of the marina from the top.

The tombs are carved into a rock and look impressive, but unfortunately, they are not really well maintained. There is graffiti all over them and all kinds of carvings which is so sad to see.

Lycian Rock Tomb in Fethiye - aerial view

Travel tip: You can see it pretty well from the street, too, if you don’t want to climb up (it only takes a few minutes, though).

10. Hike a part of The Lycian way

The Lycian Way is a marked long-distance trail that stretches from Fethiye all the way to Antalya.

Altogether it’s around 500 kilometers in length. The trail follows the coast of ancient Lycia and offers some of the most amazing views.

Of course, you don’t need to hike the whole trail (unless that’s what you’re in Fethiye for), but you can walk a small part in each of the coastal cities on the route. We’d definitely recommend it if you like chasing amazing views.

Travel tip: Be on the trail above Oludeniz for sunset, and you’ll see the sun setting down directly into the ocean.

Unfortunately, we came on the trail too late and didn’t manage to get to any good viewpoints before the sun came down, so we had to turn back.

Watching sunset at Lycian Way above Oludeniz

11. Day trip to Pamukkale

Pamukkale is a fascinating natural wonder in Turkey and is easily reachable from Fethiye or Oludeniz.

You can make a day trip there by car or go on a tour, and it should take you around 4 hours to get to Pamukkale from Fethiye.

You can explore its incredible white travertines and hot springs, as well as bathe in the pools or stroll around the ancient city of Hierapolis.

12. Day trip to Patara, the longest beach in Turkey

Patara beach is the longest beach in Turkey , and it’s surprisingly still not built out, but what makes it so unique are the sand dunes at one part, plus the ancient Patara city nearby.

And not just that, this is also one of the last few beaches in the world where endangered Caretta sea turtles still lay eggs. That’s why this area is also a protected National Park.

The Patara beach is about a 1-hour drive from Fethiye.

Make sure you plan for at least 4 hours at the beach so you have enough time to enjoy it. Unfortunately, we only made a short stop as we arrived very late.

Time to see turtles: between May to October

13. Admire the Lycian Rock Tombs of Tlos

Tlos Ruins are one of the less-visited in the area, so they’re perfect for avoiding crowds and still seeing some beautiful ruins.

The tombs are located on a hill overlooking the village of Tlos. The Lycians built the tombs in the 4th century BC, and they’re a fascinating example of Lycian architecture.

Make sure you plan for at least half an hour to an hour at the tombs so that you can explore them properly!

Tlos Ruins, Turkey

The drive from Fethiye to the Rock Tombs of Tlos takes about 35 minutes and is a scenic one, and you can see some great views of the countryside.

Price: about $1.5

14. Take a cruise from the Fethiye harbor

The harbor in Fethiye is a starting point for a few cruises of the area. Here are a few different tours that you could take from there:

  • A cruise featuring stops at Butterfly Valley and Yali Beach
  • A full-day boat excursion
  • A Turkish lunch cruise to sample some delicious local food

How many days should I spend in Fethiye?

Fethiye and Oludeniz are our favorite places on the Turkish coast, as there’s quite a lot to do there.

We’d suggest at least two up to 4 full days in Fethiye and Oludeniz, depending on your interests.

More things to do in Fethiye and Oludeniz:

  • Scuba Diving in Oludeniz
  • Buggy Safari
  • Turkish bath & massage

Where to stay in Fethiye

Fethiye has a lot of different accommodations to offer, so if you’re interested in staying in a resort, you can do that, but if you would like to save money (and maybe have a car), then an apartment would be a good choice.

Booking accommodation a bit out of town will get you a better deal, and you will still be able to reach anything very fast, as it’s not a big area at all.

We stayed in F48 Apartments , which wasn’t really close to the town center or the beach, but it was very well equipped with everything we needed.

How to get to Fethiye

There are two ways of getting to Fethiye and Oludeniz by air – one is via Antalya Airport (AYT), and the other is via Dalaman Airport (DLM).

There are buses from both Antalya and Dalaman that go to Fethiye.

You can also rent a car in either Izmir or Antalya and then drive yourself to Fethiye. It should take around 3 hours to drive from Antalya and about 4-5 from Izmir.

Jennifer Lopez Variety Cover Story

After canceling seven dates of her first North American tour in five years amid weak ticket sales, Jennifer Lopez has renamed it to apparently broaden its scope, changing it from “This Is Me… Now” to “This Is Me… Live | The Greatest Hits.”

Popular on Variety

Upon release in February, “This Is Me… Now” struggled to find an audience, selling 14,000 copies in its first week. While the album did debut atop the Billboard Top Album Sales Chart due to 11,000 in physical sales, it arrived at No. 38 on the Billboard 200, becoming the second of her nine studio albums to bow outside the top 10.

The album was one part of a self-financed $20 million multimedia project including the tour and the two films, “This Is Me…Now: A Love Story,” and a documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told.” Variety described the endeavor as an examination of “Lopez’s life as a serial romantic” following her romantic rekindling with actor Ben Affleck, who she married in 2022 after nearly two decades apart.
