YES THANK YOU!!! I ORDERED TWO!!!

Thanks Brad I was able to get one to kick off the 2022 Hot Wheels Legend Tour.

Skyline was a great choice for the Legend car this year and I can’t wait to see it first hand.

Thanks again!

Missed out but there is still time….well hoping at least

I also missed out. I have all the live stream dates and will try then. I thought I could not get the Gasser, but was able to snag the Gasser. I am hoping the same for the Nissan. 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾

Is the first livestream tomorrow at 8am eastern April 30th cause just has Public on events page, but the skyline was uploaded today, just not in stock? Thanks During COVID, would always have livestream, and cars would be put in shop like 30 minutes into start of the livestream.

Where can I find the schedule fir the Legend Tour to purchase the Gasser and Nissan?

Is 12:31 eastern and skyline in shop if helps anyone on tangram

Mohon maaf saya mau tanya, apa yang membuat hotwheels legend tour ini mahal, apakah hanya di jual beberapa stok saja?

Itu tidak terlalu mahal lagi. Anda harus dapat menemukan yang murah sekarang.

If anyone needs one, I have an xtra.

i need one please

Send me an email. [email protected]

I need one if you don’t mind.

Send me an email.. [email protected]

I need one of the Nissan. Let me know how I can get it from you. Thanks!

Schedule at hotwheelslegends.com Nxt event in Houston May 14th. Is like 8am-12pm eastern. Their is no livestream, I checked during Miami event and noticed were dropped between 12pm and 12:30pm that Saturday when event was technically over since is from 8 am to 12pm in the online vending shop at legends tour truck.square.site So on the 14th check sporadically from 8am-12, but definitely after 12pm. I only got 1 so don’t have another. Good luck hope helps. Gasser was 2 yrs ago won’t get now unless on eBay or Mercari

If your offer is still available, I’d be interested. How much …or would you rather trade?

404 error as of 5PM 4/30 😦

Got my skyline n flag. Man stoked to own but would b better to attend the actual tour.

Hot Wheels Legends Tour: Here are the cars representing North America

They're headed to the grand finale in november.

hot wheels legends tour cars

Hot Wheels has selected the five cars that will represent the United States and Canada in the grand finale of the 2021 Legends Tour. One of these five wild, one-of-a-kind custom builds could get the honor of being immortalized as a 1/64-scale model that will be sold globally.

Working closely with noted designers and other prominent figures in the automotive scene, Hot Wheels has spent the past few months traveling around the globe in search of the most unique cars. We've seen it all: a 1965 Ford Econoline nicknamed Grass Hopper and powered by a mid-mounted V8, a chopped 1929 Ford Model A whose roof panel comes from a Nissan Quest minivan, and a one-of-a-kind 2007 Chevrolet Corvette are just some of the highlights. Selecting five cars from such an illustrious group was easier said than done.

One of the finalists is a 1991 Porsche 911 that has been built into a Baja 1000-legal rally car. Owned by TJ Russel of Sun Valley, California, it features a custom-built suspension, all-wheel-drive, and composite body panels. Next is Lulu , a one-off roadster built by Santa Fe-based Paul Kalenian in merely seven months. It's built with aluminum, and it uses a 325-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Muscle car fans won't be disappointed: Hot Wheels also selected Scraptona , a 1969 Dodge Charger fitted with extra-wide tires and powered by a Richard Petty Racing NASCAR V8 engine tuned to 740 horsepower. It's owned by Christopher Palmer of Macomb, Michigan. If you're more into Japanese cars, one of the contenders is a 2003 Nissan 350Z whose rear body panels have been replaced by an assortment of tubes. Owned by Ashley Robinson of San Mateo, California, it's powered by a twin-turbocharged engine that sounds massively powerful.

Last but not least is a 1968 Mercedes-Benz 250S named High Class owned by Kevin Clarke of Penticton, Canada. It boasts a supercharged V8 engine, a rear axle from a Ford Explorer , and it rides on a 1994 Chevrolet S-10 frame. It's much higher than Stuttgart ever anticipated.

These five cars will move on to the grand finale taking place on November 13. They'll square off against the winners of the international semifinal round, which is scheduled for November 4. While the United States is often hailed as the mecca of the custom car world, thanks in part to our relatively loose approach to registering a one-off car, we shouldn't underestimate what folks overseas are capable of building. One of the cars headed to the international semi-final round is a Volvo P1800-based gasser powered by a 600-horsepower V8.

The winner will be added to the Hot Wheels catalog of scale models and sold around the globe. In 2020, the team selected a 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am heavily modified with a front-mid-mounted V8 engine and punched-out wheel arches.

Hot Wheels Legends Tour Seeks the Perfect Future 1/64-Scale Car

Now in its fourth year, the Legends Tour will hit 14 countries on five continents looking for a unique customized vehicle to turn into an iconic die-cast model.

hot wheels legends tour

  • Previous winners have included a custom 1970 Pontiac Trans Am, a modified Nash Metropolitan , and a hand-built car called the 2JETZ .
  • The 2021 tour kicks off in Australia next month, and the winner will be announced in November.

CORRECTION 3/22/2021: Our story originally noted that the winner of the Legends Tour will be added to the Forza Horizon 4 video game through a purchasable Hot Wheels Legends Car Pack. A company spokesman clarified to C/D that this applies to past winners, not necessarily the 2021 competition. We have adjusted the article to reflect that.

“ Past winner of the Legends Tour didn’t just get to become die cast, but were also added to the Forza Horizon 4 video game through a purchasable Hot Wheels Legends Car Pack on Xbox, Windows 10, iOS, and Android devices.

There's a world of difference between buying a die-cast toy car that looks like your daily driver and getting your actual car turned into a Hot Wheels model. The former, you might be able to do at the toy store (or online shopping site of choice) today. The latter? Well, you'll have to win the next Hot Wheels Legends Tour.

Now in its fourth year, the 2021 Legends Tour is looking for a "one-of-a-kind life-size car creation" that Mattel will eventually turn into a 1:64 die-cast toy. Mattel said it is looking for standout vehicles with three main winning qualities: authenticity, creativity, and "garage spirit." We can picture plenty of people out there wrenching their own, authentic creations, but the toymaker admits that the creative angle might be the most difficult to capture. "We've made tens of thousands unique vehicle models over the past 50-plus years, so we're looking for never-before-seen designs that stand out from the rest," the company said on its website.

DieCast Hotwheels The Nash, Dream Garage 2/5 [Legends Tour]

Hotwheels The Nash, Dream Garage 2/5 [Legends Tour]

Previous winners include the hand-built 2JETZ in 2018 and a modified Nash Metropolitan called simply "The Nash" in 2019. Both of those have die-cast models available, while the 2020 winner, a custom 1970 Pontiac Trans Am, will be available to purchase sometime in 2021.

Winners from the Legends Tour in the past didn't just become die cast, but were also added to the Forza Horizon 4 video game through a purchasable Hot Wheels Legends Car Pack on Xbox, Windows 10, iOS, and Android devices.

For 2021, Mattel expects to get more than 10,000 entries in the 14 countries and five continents where it will run the Tour, so your chances are admittedly low. But it really all depends on what you've got sitting in the garage. The Tour is now accepting submissions, so the time has come to show off.

In the U.S., Hot Wheels will host live events at some Walmart stores this summer. Livestreams will be viewable on the Hot Wheels Facebook page and on Walmart's website. The livestream events kick off in New Zealand on April 15 and continue in Australia (April 22), and then the United States and Canada (April 29). Before selecting an overall winner to turn into a toy, the Legends Tour will pick regional winners and a "Mobil 1 Fan Favorite" (Mobil 1 is a sponsor), and 10 finalists will face off in a grand finale event in November.

“The dedication and enthusiasm we see at Hot Wheels Legends Tour events around the world keep us motivated to build on the tour every year to find more ways to celebrate custom car builders and their drive to become legendary,” said Ted Wu, senior vice president and global head of design for vehicles at Mattel. “This year, the tour will visit Columbia and the UAE for the first time, and we can’t wait to see these unique car communities represented at this year’s global semi-final in November.”

The “Columbia” tour stop, spelled that way throughout Mattel’s press release, may be a typo for “Colombia.” Hot Wheels did not communicate dates or locations for tour stops outside the U.S.

Kicking Off the Hot Wheels Legends Tour, 2022 Edition

Meet the big cars that inspired the little ones, or vice versa.

hot wheels

Mattel, which owns both Hot Wheels and Matchbox, was in New York April 6 for the kickoff of the 2022 Legends Tour , which will travel around the US through October, stopping mostly at Walmarts (a sponsor along with Mobil 1). Yes, there are displays of the little cars, including the now very valuable “Original Sixteen” lineup from ’68 , but they will be side-by-side with the Legends cars—life-sized versions of the diminutive, people-powered racers. The Legends Tour was launched in 2018 as a way to engage the car builder community, the company said.

hot wheels

Seventy-one-year-old Lee Johnstone from Bridgwater in Somerset, England, was in New York with daughter Victoria Upham to represent the family’s 1969 Volvo 1800S Gasser , an unlikely drag racer built on a shoestring $16,000 budget and powered by a big-block Chevrolet engine. Not only does it do 10-second quarter miles, but it was also the winner of the 2021 tour , which means it is now available in a Hot Wheels blister pack.

Johnstone said the Volvo’s celebrity won’t keep it in the garage or show stand. “I’ll still race it, because that’s what it was built for,” he said.

The Volvo, nicknamed “Ain’t No Saint” in a nod to the 1800-starring TV show, was back in England. But many other Legends cars were on the floor at Classic Car Club Manhattan . Hot Wheels decided early on to feature custom cars, and that tradition continues. In each case, the car display also featured the Hot Wheels interpretation.

Gas Monkey Garage Corvette

hot wheels

Also known as “Midas Monkey,” the Gas Monkey Garage Corvette was built in 2016 as a vision in bright gold metal flake, powered by a blown 427 big-block Chevy engine with dual Holley carbs and a four-speed manual transmission. Quad exhaust pipes exit from a port on the front left fender. Surprisingly, it’s the original engine. The interior, trimmed in white leather, was relatively subdued. The build was detailed on the Fast N’ Loud TV show.

hot wheels

Deora II was designed by Nathan Proch and built by the legendary Chip Foose in 2003, at a cost of $750,000. It’s in the ballpark of a 2050 El Camino, and echoes the original Dodge Deora Concept that Hot Wheels introduced in 1968. Both iterations have twin surfboards mounted on the rear cover, and on the more streamlined II it lifts for storage. Power is from a 400-horsepower Cadillac Northstar V8. As with all of the Legends cars, it’s a runner and capable of 150 mph.

hot wheels

The close-to-1400-horsepower Twin-Mill Corvette was commissioned for Hot Wheels’ 30th anniversary in 1998 and debuted at the SEMA show in 2001. The front-mounted engines sit side-by-side in front of the driver, and they’d present a visibility challenge if this were anything but a show car. Ira Gilford designed it, and Carron Custom Industries and Action Vehicle Engineering were the builders.

Bone Shaker

hot wheels

The hot rod pickup was a 2011 build based on Hot Wheels Chief Designer Larry Wood’s 2006 die-cast toy. It’s got 402-horsepower Chevy 350 power, and a top speed of 160 mph. The death’s head “grille” would entice any school boy.

Mattel dodged a question about the percentage of the toys sold to females, claiming not to have the breakdown. But according to Ted Wu, vice president and global head of design for vehicles at Mattel , “We welcome both males and females. We’re simply an automotive brand, appealing to whoever likes cars—we would never ‘pink wash’ just to get more female buyers.” Hot Wheels has built Barbie cars, though.

Wu led a tour through Hot Wheels history. “We were born from California custom car culture,” he said. “We’ve always been about pushing design forward.” The original release included the Beatnik Bandit, the original Deora Concept, the Ford J-Car, Hot Heap and Silhouette. Intact sets of the re-release of that first grouping in 2018 are now soaring in value, with a display set on eBay for $7500 . By 1991, the first billion Hot Wheels cars had been sold.

.css-ov6gys{font-family:Paralucent,Paralucent-roboto,Paralucent-local,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:1.5rem;line-height:1.1;margin:0rem;}@media(min-width: 48rem){.css-ov6gys{font-size:2.1875rem;line-height:1.2;}}@media(min-width: 64rem){.css-ov6gys{font-size:2.625rem;line-height:1.2;}}.css-ov6gys b,.css-ov6gys strong{font-family:inherit;font-weight:bold;}.css-ov6gys em,.css-ov6gys i{font-style:italic;font-family:inherit;} “We were born from California custom car culture. We’ve always been about pushing design forward.”

Today Hot Wheels has diversified, with upscale membership-required Redline Club cars , larger limited-edition $400 to $500 radio-controlled cars of such icons as a modern Batmobile and the Tesla Cybertruck (sold out in minutes) and even NFTs. There are co-branding opportunities such as the Gucci Cadillac Sevilles (with special pouch and box!), a Schaffhausen Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition , X Super73 electric motorcycles , and more.

The company estimates that 25 percent of its output is bought by collectors. One such adult, with 7000 rare Hot Wheels toys including prototypes, has insured his collection for $1.5 million . Is your kid playing with a 1969 Rear-Loading Beach Bomb prototype ? Be careful, it’s worth $150,000.

Hot Wheels appears to be a fun place to work. Playing with toys is encouraged, and there’s an opportunity to turn your hobby into gainful employment. Brendon Vetuskey is a Mattel staff designer, and like many players in the company is a total gearhead. Cars he built in real life have become Hot Wheels cars, including a custom 1967 Pontiac Firebird and his ‘55 Chevy Bel Air gasser with big-block power, a/k/a “Triassic-Five,” intended to look like “a weathered survivor.”

hot wheels

Ex-Honda Bryan Benedict, Mattel design director and a 17-year Hot Wheels veteran, showed how the cars are styled and built, starting with computer sketches and proceeding through counter drawings to the digital “sculpture” stage. The cars in four pieces—body, glass, chassis and interior—are then executed via 3D printing for evaluation purposes. The final stages are rendering in bare-metal cut steel, putting color and graphics on, making sure the packaging is spot-on, then tasking the factory (in Malaysia, as well as some work in Thailand and China) for mass production.

Hot Wheels cars can be launched by hand, via spring launch or battery-powered booster. Building the snap-together tracks with loop-de-loops, tight curves, and other obstacles into large layouts is the fun part. But it’s all about fun with Hot Wheels, isn’t it?

Check all the stops on the schedule for this year’s Hot Wheels Legends Tour here . Meanwhile, tell us about your favorite Hot Wheels model or share your fondest memory of playing with the 1:64-scale toys in the comments below.

Seventh annual hot wheels™ legends tour presented by mobil 1 kicks off on may 11 in miami.

Seeking out the ultimate custom car build to immortalize as a Hot Wheels 1:64 die-cast, the tour will bring one of the world’s largest traveling car shows to 13 countries, beginning May 11 at a Miami area Walmart location.

New for 2024, Hot Wheels and Walmart will partner to select an online submission to compete in the Global Semi-Final

The Tour will culminate in November with a virtual Global Grand Finale, where the next Hot Wheels die-cast will be selected and inducted into the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends™

Vehicle submissions are now open for the 2024 Hot Wheels™ Legends Tour at HotWheels.com/Legends

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., April 22, 2024 --( BUSINESS WIRE )--The Hot Wheels Legends Tour presented by Mobil 1 is a global phenomenon and back for its seventh year in search of the next Garage of Legends inductee. Beginning May 11, car builders from around the world will compete for a chance to have their one-of-a-kind car immortalized as a 1:64-scale die-cast and join a legendary group of Garage of Legends life-size Hot Wheels vehicles. Celebrating car builders and enthusiasts around the world in their drive to be legendary, this year’s Tour kicks off in Miami with a live event, in partnership with Walmart, on May 11 and will travel across 13 countries.

For 2024, Hot Wheels is leaving no stone unturned in its search for the next Hot Wheels die-cast, with new event stops in Columbia and the United Arab Emirates. The United States will host 11 regional events at Walmart locations across the country, culminating with the Global Semi-Final and the Global Grand Finale in November.

"The dedication and enthusiasm we see at Hot Wheels Legends Tour events around the world keep us motivated to build on the tour every year to find more ways to celebrate custom car builders and their drive to become legendary," said Ted Wu, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Design for Vehicles at Mattel. "This year, the tour will visit Columbia and the UAE for the first time, and we can’t wait to see these unique car communities represented at this year’s Global Semi-Final in November."

Hot Wheels designers and celebrity judges will examine each vehicle based on three key categories: authenticity, creativity, and garage spirit. The brand’s Garage of Legends vehicles push the boundaries of automotive design and purpose-built performance. When searching for the next authentically iconic Hot Wheels vehicle, the judges are looking for extreme, on-trend, relevant vehicles. Judges will also consider the builder’s overall creativity and how the project stands out from the crowd. Additionally, extra points will be awarded when it is evident that the owner put in early mornings, late nights, grit, and determination into the project.

New for this year, Hot Wheels will celebrate its ongoing partnership with Walmart by adding a U.S. virtual contest where car enthusiasts nationwide can submit their passion projects and participate in the Hot Wheels Legends Tour. Hot Wheels and Walmart Design Teams will select one vehicle to move on to the Global Semi-Final in November. Submission details will be announced in the coming weeks.

The U.S.-based regional events will return to Walmart stores and feature interactive analysis and coverage from the onsite hosts. Each stop will include activities for fans of all ages, including the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends life-size cars, play spaces where kids can interact with the latest Hot Wheels toys, and Hot Wheels die-cast displays featuring coveted premium and collector cars. Additionally, Hot Wheels enthusiasts can find special edition Hot Wheels Legends products exclusively at select Walmart stores or on Walmart.com .

Everything You Need To Know About The Hot Wheels Legends Tour

Relive your childhood at one of the coolest custom car shows.

The Hot Wheels Legends Tour is one of the world’s biggest traveling car shows that attracts new talents in automobile engineering and design. The tour also awards the best with die-cast immortalization. The Hot Wheels Legends Tour started in 2018 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the brand. This tour includes several stopovers in different states of the USA, and for this year, the show will be live-streamed to other countries. At each stop, the show judges carefully examine custom-built cars by local builders and mark them based on three factors, such as authenticity, originality, and garage spirit.

Being one of the biggest galas for automobiles enthusiasts, the Hot Wheels Legends Tour is something a true fanatic might not want to miss, here’s why.

Hot Wheels Legends Tour: The Way

In terms of authenticity, the show seeks those cars with marvelous designing features and outstanding performance qualities. Originality is the second most important factor; Hot Wheels has been making model cars for more than 50 years, so the entry car should be of unique features that stand out from the rest. And finally, only the custom-built cars are allowed to make an entry that matches Hot Wheels’ spirit of building. Selected cars from each state then compete in a final round, and one most exclusive design is crowned with the ‘Hot Wheels Legends Award.’ This award includes a 1:64-scale die-cast toy replica of the winning car that will be circulated worldwide for selling.

The 2018 Hot Wheels Legends Tour

The show was a hit in its debut edition in 2018. It attracted almost 3,600 cars and 65,000 fans from all over the country. That year the show was held at Walmart car parking of 15 locations around the USA. The motto of that tour and every tour after that is to find out the most influential and legendary automobile design. A feat that was achieved by Hot Wheels itself when they launched ‘Sweet 16’ die-cast cars in 1968.

Fifteen winners from states were selected for the finals. Most of the vehicles are classic era modified cars, with some custom-built fresh ideas. The finalists of the 2018 tour were the 1949 Ford F-5 Rat Rod, 1938 Dodge Superior Bus, 1954 Ford 2-Ton Tow Truck, 1963 Rambler American Wagon, Custom 2 Jetz, Custom 'Surf N Rod', 1987 Porsche 944, 1994 Chevrolet Geo Tracker 'Never Enough,' 1973 Datsun 240Z, 1947 Chevy Crosley Sedan 'The Blue Goose,' 1989 Datsun 1200, Medieval One, 1966 Chevy Pickup, 1936 Ford Pickup 'Cab Over Evolve', and the 1938 Graham.

The winner of the 2018 Hot Wheels Legends Tour was the ‘Custom 2 Jetz’. The 2 Jetz was entirely hand-built by Luis Rodriguez . The car was powered by a Toyota Supra fully race-built 2JZ-GTE motor with Custom Subaru Sti 6 speed converted into a transaxle Transmission. The airplane-like body design featured custom 4130 chrome moly tubular frame chassis, and custom molded 6061 aluminum skin on a quilted frame.

The 2019 Hot Wheels Legends Tour

The Hot Wheels Legends Tour drew over 90,000 people and 5,000 unique vehicles from across the United States, Mexico, and Germany in 2019. At the 2019 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Mattel announced the winner of the second annual Hot Wheels Legends Tour.

The Nash Metropolitan custom vehicle, created by best friends Greg Salzillo and Dave Ford, was released as a 1:64 scale die-cast toy as part of the Hot Wheels mainstream collection. The Nash built by Salzillo and Ford was chosen among almost 5,000 custom vehicles that competed in the Hot Wheels Legends Tour, which toured 20 cities throughout Europe and North America that year.

The Nash was a small block Chevy 305 with a 40-horsepower engine that first came off the production line in 1957. Salzillo and Dave customized this automobile with a 300-horsepower engine and headers sticking out of the fenders. The automobile has original bias-ply tires and old-school stock steel wheels mounted outside the car body. The custom-built car was named 1957 Nash Metropolitan - ’Nashole.’

The 2020 Virtual Hot Wheels Legends Tour

The 2020 tour went off the streets because of the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic. But it was not canceled. Instead, the whole tour was moved to an online format, with each contender recording a video displaying their car and the judges selecting a finalist via a Facebook broadcast. The pandemic also decreased the number of finalists from 18 to 13. Fans picked one of the finalists through an Instagram vote.

The winner of 2020 Hot Wheels Legends Tours was the 1970 Pontiac Trans Am. The Pontiac Firebird was a pony car produced by Pontiac from 1967 and 2002. The automobile was meant to compete against the Ford Mustang and was linked to the Chevrolet Camaro . Riley Stair, Brendon Vetuskey, and Manson Cheung refurbished that car with a 1000 HP engine.

The 2021 Hot Wheels Legends Tour is going on now, and this year the tour is a combination of physical and virtual events. The tour is on the move on streets in states of the USA, whereas fans and designers of countries like New Zealand , Australia, Canada, and more, will join this event through Livestream. The Ryu Asada Prize is a new award for this year, given for ‘excellence in design and storytelling’ at each stop on the Legends Tour; it was developed in memory of Asada, who died in March 2021. The trophy has a Mighty K on it, which was the final design he saw finished.

13 Things You Didn't Know About Hot Wheels Cars

B e it a child or an adult, almost everyone who knows cars also knows Hot Wheels . Whether for playing or as collector's items, these cars are the standard in replicas for popular, classic, and even outlandish cars. With decades of experience, Hot Wheels has brought the gift of owning a fast sports car to the common child – no small feat and one we respect deeply.

UPDATED 2023/10/04 By Ron FP

Hot Wheels cars are some of the best-selling toys in the world, and they have helped many kids (and adults) cultivate their love for real cars over the decades. We've updated this list to include more interesting facts about the Hot Wheels brand and its fleet of over 6 billion cars that have been produced since 1968.

Since the company's birth, Hot Wheels has paid great attention to detail and quality, employing some of the best designers to create scaled replicas and adaptations of numerous cars. Even as a kid's toy, the wheels and tracks make them extremely fun and long-lasting, carving a place in the minds of all children who have had the pleasure of owning one. And then there are the $1 million Hot Wheels collections for adults. Here we'll be talking about some lesser-known facts about Hot Wheels and how they have continued their decades-long journey into our hearts.

Hot Wheels Is Very Old

The idea of Hot Wheels was first conceived by Elliot Handler in the 1960s, with production beginning in 1967. In the age of die casting with lackluster replicas of existing automobiles, the design of a good-looking and fast-moving car was bound to be a success, but like with most new ideas, no one knew of the success it would have.

The name of the brand most probably came from Handler when he saw an El Camino being tested and said "That is one set of hot wheels you have there". However, just like Newton's story about gravity and the apple, this one may have benefited from some embellishment. The first 16 Hot Wheels cars that were made included a dark blue Custom Camaro, a Custom Mustang, a Dodge Deora, and a Custom Firebird, to name a few.

Hot Wheels Has Made Billions Of Cars

Currently, at over 6 billion units produced, Hot Wheels cars are more numerous than the actual cars in the world. As of this point, Hot Wheels has produced these units based on over 20,000 different models. All the original Sweet 16 Hot Wheels cars were custom, with flashy paint and designs that gave them an eye-catching look compared to Matchbox's offerings. The cars were made to a scale of 1/64 and were part of the Red Line Series, which had red pinstripes on their tire walls . The Red Line series lasted for about 10 years, which makes them great finds for true Hot Wheels collectors today.

Fast-forward 50 years and there are 130 new variants that sell in 150 countries, giving Mattel's Hot Wheels brand a value of over $1.25 billion in 2022, and still growing.

Hot Wheels Cars Are Worth A Lot Of Money

Though the current price of a Hot Wheels car is just roughly $1 - $2, some can go over tens of thousands of dollars. Take the coveted Pink Rear Loading Beach Bomb from 1969 with the surfboards going through the window at the back. The last time one was sold it went for an astounding $72,000 and now this pink Hot Wheels costs $175,000 — more than a Porsche Taycan . What makes this design so rare is that it never went into production, hence only two units of this pink model exist.

Others like the "Cheetah" Base Python from 1968 have estimated valuations over $10,000.

Hot Wheels Is Very Famous

Just like the Mad Maverick which had its name changed to Mighty instead of Mad, and the Over Chrome Camaro, a lot of these Hot Wheels are popular because of their exclusivity, owing to production issues and hiccups. Besides that, Hot Wheels cars have also starred in their very own TV shows and movies with an upcoming one in 2025, but kids from our generation must have seen the Hot Wheels: AcceleRacers, tune into that for a hit of nostalgia.

Ever since 2018, the Hot Wheels Legends Tour has been happening as a way to celebrate over 50 years of Hot Wheels, with over 100,000 people attending. The winning car gets a model made by Hot Wheels themselves, just like the JDM Kei Monster Truck Hot Wheels Legends winner from 2022 .

Darth Vader Is The Best-Selling Character Car Of Hot Wheels

According to Mattel, the current best-selling Hot Wheels character car is Darth Vader. This die-cast character car came out in 2014, and it likely gained so much attention from Hot Wheels fans not just because of their love for the Star Wars franchise, but also because Hot Wheels and Star Wars promoted it heavily with – guess what – a real, life-sized vehicle called the Darth Vader Car.

The real-life Darth Vader Car was based on a 1997 C5 Corvette , but its body was made mostly out of fiberglass and carbon fiber. This lightweight car, which premiered at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con International, boasted a 526-hp 6.2 LS3 V8 engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission that allowed it to go up to a claimed 150-MPH top speed.

Aside from Darth Vader, Hot Wheels Star Wars character cars also include Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, R2-D2, and C-3PO. However, only the Darth Vader character car had a life-sized version.

Hot Wheels And Matchbox Have The Same Owner

Matchbox, which started producing miniature cars in 1953 , was the primary competitor of Hot Wheels cars. However, after 3 decades of rivalry between the two toy brands, Hot Wheels owner Mattel acquired Matchbox.

Many avid Matchbox collectors of the 1990s did not like this acquisition, primarily because they thought of the Hot Wheels line as inferior, and that Mattel would eventually bring Matchbox's quality in line with Hot Wheels. These fears were not unfounded at the time. In fact, in 2003, Mattel released the Matchbox Ultra Heroes, a series of fantasy vehicles that veered away from Matchbox's original concept of realistic miniature cars. Matchbox loyalists responded strongly by keeping their wallets closed, so Mattel discontinued the new direction after only a year. In 2004, Matchbox, with a revamped design team, went back to producing realistic and well-detailed models. Since then, Mattel has kept both Hot Wheels and Matchbox on the market, as distinct brands with their own unique offerings and design principles.

Hot Wheels Has A Guinness World Record

Believe it or not, there is a Guinness World Record for the longest Hot Wheels track at 2,364 ft , and it was made in 2020 in Australia during the Covid-19 lockdown. It took 3 attempts to achieve the record, which had the Hot Wheels car running for a whole 5 minutes without any external power.

There are other records, like the most loop-the-loops in a Hot Wheels track (14 loops, achieved in 2022) or the largest loop (12 feet, set in 2021), all of which go to show that Hot Wheels is still very popular.

Hot Wheels Owes Its Origins to Barbie

Before Hot Wheels was ever conceived, there was Barbie. In fact, without Barbie, there would be no Hot Wheels today. In the 1950s, Ruth Handler, the wife of the Hot Wheels creator , had an idea to make a 3-dimensional doll for their daughter. Elliot was skeptical, saying that a doll with breasts wouldn't be very popular. However, the Barbie ended up selling over 350,000 units during its first year in 1959.

A couple of years later, Elliot had a similar idea for boys, and Hot Wheels was born. Is it a coincidence that both of the greatest children's toys came from the same couple? Either way, we owe them a lot.

Hot Wheels Cars Can Be Very Rare

The White Enamel Custom Camaro pictured above is the most recent Hot Wheels discovery that could fetch over $100,000 . It is one of the original Sweet 16 made in 1968 for Mattel in the United States and Hong Kong. It is an enamel prototype made as the first casting to check the model, and they weren't usually sold, hence the scarcity. The Pink Beach Bomb we mentioned earlier only had 2 models ever produced, while the "Cheetah" Base Python had only 6 and the Mad Maverick had only 4.

Sometimes it's the build, sometimes it's the paint and then sometimes it's the car itself, like the Hot Wheels Mercedes-Benz 300 SL which makes it an absolute great replica , but in the end, all of these cars are special in their own way.

Hot Wheels Designers Were Actual Car Designers

Harry Bradley and Larry Wood, both famous Hot Wheels designers, worked in the automotive industry itself. In fact, Harry Bradley made a Hot Wheels replica of the 1968 Corvette even before the actual car was released to the public, using his plans from his time at GM. Larry Wood, aka "Mr. Hot Wheels", has been a designer for over 50 years, and he used to design for Ford. Larry Wood was the one who made the '67 Camaro Hot Wheels. The company's selection of its designers just goes to show the level of detail and finesse that Hot Wheels aims for when making cars.

Hot Wheels Has Worked With NASA

Hot Wheels has partnered with NASA not once, but twice. In 1998, Hot Wheels made a replica of the Mars-going Sojourner. In 2012, another similar project was done for the Curiosity Rover. The $2.5 billion, six-wheeled Curiosity Rover is still active today , and thanks to Hot Wheels you can get a model of this interplanetary vehicle.

With all the instruments, unique design, and odd wheels, the Curiosity Rover must have been a different make for Hot Wheels. However, the company made sure to build it and bring the joy of space to many children across the globe. Who knows, perhaps one day we will see a Hot Wheels car floating around in space.

Hot Wheels Cars Can Reach Over 300 MPH

One of the original selling points of Hot Wheels over Matchbox was that the former's cars were faster. The original 16 Hot Wheels cars were designed by a GM engineer (Harry Bentley Bradley) , and a real aerospace and rocket design expert (Jack Ryan) – and they focused on making better wheels than the ones on Matchbox cars at the time. True enough, the original Hot Wheels cars had low-friction wheels and could go fast and far with just a tiny push.

More recently, some Hot Wheels cars have gone electric, and now they are able to break the 300-mph barrier just like Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ did – but only on a scale speed, of course.

Hot Wheels Cars Are Very Special

Almost every kid has dreamt about cars, and Hot Wheels is a company that gives children the ability to have any car of their choosing at their fingertips. Just like with Matchbox, the idea of having a scaled-down version of a car so that it can fit inside a matchbox (eureka moment) was a great one. Some cars are so rare that you have zero chance of seeing one in the real world, but you can still get a Hot Wheels version to fulfill the little kid's dream.

RELATED: 10 Sickest Hot Wheels We Wish We Had In Our Collection

Hot Wheels has made a mark on many generations of children, even after Elliot Handler's passing in 2011 at 95 years old . His legacy will live on in his ideas and the joy he has brought to toy-loving kids of all ages around the world.

Moscow at Night: City Sightseeing Tour by Car/Bus

When the Sun begins to set, the myriad lights and firefly-like cars buzzing around on the wide highways see Moscow burst into life. This unreal sight is best enjoyed from the height of the capital’s famous viewpoints, Moscow in the evening is truly, truly spectacular. We invite you with pleasure to see the magic of Moscow under the bright night lights!

On this tour, you can expect to see incredible views and the magical transformation sunset has on Moscow’s most iconic buildings, the highlights of which being:

  • The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is a more solemn yet festive sight with its dimly lit lanterns.
  • Basil's Cathedral’s fun and colourful onion domes give off the aura of a mysterious castle, growing out of the darkness of the imposing State Duma building nearby.
  • The spectacularly illuminated Bolshoi Theatre and the Alexander Garden walkway, itself painted in a whimsical pattern of shadows.
  • The legendary Lubyanka Square, steeped in secrecy; just its hearing its name after dark is enough to trigger goosebumps, given its murky past.
  • The House on the Embankment, where old legends are revived and ghostly silhouettes lurk.
  • The Russian State Library, where vague shadows have been seen flickering in its windows. Who knows, could this be the legendary bibliologist Rubakin protecting the works of literary art that lie within its walls?
  • Incredible views from the height of the observation deck at Sparrow Hills. The candle-like skyscrapers of "Moscow-City" shoot into the night in a blaze of glorious light, all reflected back to the observer by the dark waters of the Moscow River. Lest not forget the blood-red fountains on Poklonnaya Hill! An absolutely fantastic spectacle which cannot be seen by day.

Our expert guides will share one thousand and one interesting stories about the aforementioned and other sights, whilst at the same time detailing the vast history of our beautiful capital, past and present.

"A very enjoybale day in Moscow. We had a very nice and knowledgeable guide Anastasia.(Nastia) She was very passionate about the City and we learnt so much in our brief four hours walk with her! Certainly this walking tour added a lot of value to our Moscow Holiday. A great idea to educate visitors about Russia and Moscow. The group was intimate enough to ask questions and stop for snacks etc..we thoriughly enjoyed it and would highly reccomend it.Carry on doing a great job!"

"I really enjoyed the tour, it was a great experience, very informative and fun. I will definitely tell everybody about that tour, keep it it is a fantastic idea!"

"Sorry I do not remember the names :( ... They were very talkative and very into everything. I think they both really love the city, and they made me feel like this to. They knew much about History, which was very informative! Great guides!!!"

"We partook of the fantastic Petersburg Free Tour. Due to our timing during the low season (shockingly not everyone is flocking to Moscow while the average temperature is 15F), it ended up being just us and Sonia, the afore-mentioned super-guide. She quickly ascertained the limited scope of our wanderings.."
