Is there anything better than travel? I travel almost every month for work, and I have spent a LOT of time in airports, lol. Today, I’m sharing 7 of my go-to plus size airport outfits – making it easy for you to travel in style.
If you’re wondering, “What should I wear on a plane as a plus size traveler?” I got you! Keep on reading!!!
[Fun fact, i’m literally writing this blog post in an airport! Hello from St. Louis airport, lol!]
[Note: This blog post was originally written on June 27, 2021. It was last updated February 8, 2022! While I strive to keep my posts up-to-date, brands do make changes! Be sure to check all sizing and pricing information with the brand! <3]
This blog post is all about plus size airport outfits.
Plus Size Airport Outfits FTW!
I’ve put together a guide for plus size airport outfits below, and before we jump in I want to remind you to CHECK THE SIZE CHART before ordering. A size 18 in one brand is not the same in another! I recommend getting a cheap tape measurer from Amazon , so you can take your measurements before ordering (that’s what I do)! NEVER assume that sizes are the same across brands, bestie!
Not everyone has the same style, so I’ve organized the round up by personality and aesthetic! Enjoy!
My Tips for Plus Size Airport Outfits
- STRETCH: When shopping for a plus size airport outfit, I recommend going for items that have STRETCH (jersey, cotton spandex, etc),
- DARK COLORS: I like to choose a plus size airport outfit ina dark color, in case you spill Starbucks on yourself at the airport! <3
WHEN SHOPPING FOR A PLUS SIZE AIRPORT OUTFIT, I RECOMMEND GOING FOR ITEMS THAT HAVE STRETCH (JERSEY, COTTON SPANDEX, ETC), AS WELL AS DARKER COLORS – IN CASE YOU SPILL STARBUCKS ON YOURSELF AT THE AIRPORT! <3
#1 Plus Size Airport Outfit Idea – Midi Skirt & Trench Coat
OMG y’all, I think that this plus size airport outfit from PrettyLittleThing is so chic! I am obsessed!
- Plus size trench coat (different from picture!)
- Plus size white top
- Plus size black midi-skirt
This plus size babe is ready to jet set!

#2 Plus Size Airport Outfit Idea from Eloquii – Corporate Travel
First up on my roundup of plus size airport outfits is this plus size airport outfit .
This outfit follows my “Put a blazer on it!” rule when it comes to traveling as a business professional. A plus size jumpsuit or romper is super cozy for travel, and you can throw on a blazer to be more professional.
If you’re traveling for work, it’s probably not a good idea to show up at the airport in leggings and a hoodie you slept in (I mean, I’ve done it, but I don’t recommend it, lol)!! I found this outfit on Eloquii, and I love the stretch jumpsuit paired with an oversized blazer. The black romper is currently sold out (ugh), but you can easily recreate this with another black romper or jumpsuit.
This look can be dressed up when you throw on your blazer, but is comfy in a cramped airline seat! I’d add in hoop earrings and a clip to put your hair up, and you’re ready to travel the skies!! Pair with some nice flats ( these are super cute) , and bam. Good to go!

#3 Plus Size Airport Outfit Idea – Matching Sweatsuit Set
Ok, so a glam plus size airport outfit is the ubiquitous SWEAT SET.
When it come to traveling, I want to be *comfy*, but I don’t want to look like a slob! I’ve met some really rad people in airports (and dated people I’ve met in airports, lol), so it’s important to me to look put together – but also be comfortable for a long flight. I’ve seen a number of folks travel in these, and the y can be super CHIC or super NOT. It’s easy to go frumptastic here.
For this reason, I freaking love plus size tracksuits for travel. If you want to be elevated, you can go with a creme plus size tracksuit from Eloquii, or a more fitted option. Make sure to get a set that *looks* like a set (With matching logo or design) to have the best impact.
Here’s a few more tips:
- If possible, go with a light color. A tan or neutral sweatsuit fit is super chic. If you’re like me and worried about spilling on yourself, then go with a dark red [like below]. AVOID BLACK.
- If you have long hair, put your hair in a sleek high ponytail.
- Avoid the pants dragging on the ground [def not chic]. Roll them up at the ankles.
- There’s something about showing an ankle bone when wearing a sweatsuit that is so chic! I’d get mine tailored a bit to show a little ankle [lol]. I know this sounds weird, but it’s true!!
Below, I’ve shared some of my fave plus size sweatsuit finds for the perf comfy plus size airport outfit!
#4 Plus Size Airport Outfit Idea – Jumpsuit with Stretch
Next plus size airport outfit? A JUMPSUIT !
Ok, hear me out:
Plus size jumpsuits [made out of super soft fabric] are basically stylish pajamas. It is suchhhh a hack to wear a chic an well-fitting jumpsuit to the airport!
Now, to be CLEAR – I’m talking about a plus size jumpsuit made out of jersey and other stretch material. The fabric needs to have GIVE, baby – otherwise, you’ll be miserable and tugging on your clothes the whole flight. To see what fabric a clothing piece is made out of, go to the product page and look under “Product Details.” You may have to Google the fabrics listed – and I promise it’s worth the time to know what the garment is made out of!! <3

#5 Plus Size Airport Outfit Idea – Maxi Dress & Jean Jacket
If you’re a plus size babe who gets cold when you fly on an airplane, then this next plus size airport outfit is for you!
This plus size travel outfit from City Chic features a long black maxi dress and jean jacket. I loooove the layers here!
If you’re still worried about getting cold, you can add plus size leggings under the maxi dress [ultimate life hack] ++ a cami or undershirt. Boom! Lots of layers.
I think what makes this outfit SUPER chic is the footwear – it looks like these are similar to converse Chuck sneakers. Love it!

#6 Plus Size Airport Outfit Idea – Classic Beach Vibes
When I saw this photo on the Lane Bryant website, I knew I had to share it! This is a classic plus size airport outfit, feautring:
- Jean Jacket
- Cute Shorts
- Cute sandals – not flip flops!!
^^ The items pictured in this outfit are sold out, so I found the closest matches I could!
This outfit is also a great option for sightseeing! Some folks may replace the white t-shirt with a striped shirt or graphic tee. BOOM! Cute, comfy and put together.
Note: I recommend getting sandals with a back, like these. Flip flops can trip you up in an airport, and I’ve had more than one person “flat tire” me as I’ve deplaned. Ugh. Def get a sandal, folks!
#7 Plus Size Airport Outfit Idea – Sophisticated Pastel
Circling back to the oversized blazer idea from #1 is this gorgeous and sumptuous outfit from Eloquii. Between the blazer and the trousers – I am LIVING!
This would be a great outfit to wear if you’re headed to a beach vacation, but you’re not quite ready to break out the gauzey dresses and plus size resort wear just yet!
This plus size outfit is sold out, but I wanted to keep it in this roundup to serve as plus size airport outfit inspiration!
#8 Plus Size Airport Outfit Idea – Lantern Sleeve Top (What I’m wearing Right NOW!)
Next up on our plus size airport outfit journey [see what I did there?], we have a plus size casual top that I LOVEEEEE!
Y’all, I’m so obsessed with this plus size top that I own it in FOUR colors. I own *11* of these bad boys!! This top is super lightweight and breathable fabric that’s easy to layer, and it looks classy. It’s also super easy to wipe off spills (anyone else spill on themselves while traveling), and they’re a great option for all sorts of trips.
I recommend pairing it with a pair of black jeggings (I wrote about my fave plus size jeggings HERE) , and avoiding denim. We want stretch on the plane, babe!
Shop this plus size airport-perfect top HERE .
#9 Plus Size Airport Outfit Idea – Trench Coat & Joggers
I feel like this is a CLASSIC airport outfit – I see it all of the time when I fly into JFK! This is a super chic and comfy plus size airport outfit, pairing a jogger sweat set with a plus size trench coat.
Remember, when dressing for a flight, we always dress in LAYERS, baby!

#10 Plus Size Airport Outfit Idea – Comfy Plus Size Outfits From Amazon
Okay, so! In doing research for my guide to plus size airport outfit ideas, I found a bunch of comfy stretch outfits on Amazon. I’m sharing those outfits below, BUT I haven’t tried any of these — so I can’t vouch for them! I am INTRIGUED though, so I decided to share them in this post! <3
All of these outfits are available in multiple colors. Click the image for more details! (Be sure to check the size chart measurements!!!)

#11 Plus Size Airport Outfit Idea – Stretch Pont Pants & Tee
Ok, so “pont” is a great fabric for a plus size airport outfit – because it’s a bit thick and STRETCHES. This fabric holds its form, while also being comfy to sit in.
Pont plus size pants are my go-to for all plus size workwear!
Torrid had a few fun options, which. love. I style plus size pont pants with a fun graphic tee and fitted jacket, or sometimes a black chic hoodie in an airport.
Shop plus size pont pants here!
#12 Plus Size Airport Outfit Idea – Plus Size Duster Set
I am such a fan of plus size duster sets, as they look super chic and they often have, wait for it, STRETCH. This plus size duster set from Boohoo is quite chic (I am OBSESSED with this color, lol), and it comes in a few colors!
You can swap out the duster jacket for a jean jacket, hoodie or cardigan, or wear the duster jacket with plus size high waist jeans and a graphic tee. A skirt-duster set is GREAT for plus size travel!
Shop this plus size duster set here !
#13 Plus Size Airport Outfit : Mesh Top & Trousers
If you’re looking for a plus size airport outfit that’s a bit more put together and chic — but you still want to be comfy on the plane — then may I suggest a mock neck mesh top?
IDK who decided these were now IN and TRENDY, but I for one am so grateful! I love layering these super chic tops, and they’re soooo comfy!
Eloquii has some of the best options out there, so I always keep an eye on their website!
Shop these plus size airport outfits here!
#14 Plus Size Airport Outfit : Graphic Tees
I am a HUGE fan of graphic tees as part of a plus size airport outfit idea ! They are so fun, and I like to style mine with pointed toe boots or combat boots. (Zippable shoes are easier to take off at TSA, in my travel experience.)
Check out these plus size airport outfits here !

When it comes to travel, we know you need to find the perfect balance between comfort and style. After all, it’s great to look put together while hopping on a flight, but not at the cost of your comfort—especially on long-haul trips. Rest assured, we've curated a list of wardrobe essentials to achieve flawless travel and airport outfits, whether you are exploring a new destination for business or pleasure.
When it comes to the best travel outfits for women, accessories play a critical role in keeping you comfy and organized. All you have to do is remember a comfortable pair of shoes , compression socks to keep things moving, an eye mask that's an upgrade from the one the airline provides, and a chic shawl that doubles as a blanket. And of course, no travel outfit would be complete without a fashionable (and functional!) carry-on bag on your arm or atop your luggage . This bag should house all of your essentials and still level up your airport outfit. Keep reading for some of the best travel and airport outfit ideas your next trip.
Missky Long-Sleeved Oversize Pant Set
You might look like you're already on vacation if you show up to the airport in this neutral pants and button-down set. Available in two bright and two neutral colors, and sizes small to 2XL.
Spanx AirEssentials Wide-Leg Pants
Sometimes nothing less than sweats will do, and here is where Spanx really excels. Oprah picked these for her 2022 Favorite Things , saying, “You might know Spanx for its shapewear, but it also does fantastic cozy clothes. When I tell you this set feels light as air, I’m not kidding. It’s my new leisure suit. The perfectly loose-and-lightweight fabric is like buttah!”
Vuori Elevation Trouser in Midnight Heather
Vuori is celebrated for its super-cozy pieces. The best thing about these pants? They look put together while the stretch-knit fabric is as comfy as your favorite Vuori loungers. The high-rise waist and loose fit of the leg give you an effortlessly stylish silhouette.
Girlfriend Collective Compressive Pocket Legging
Leggings are a perfect choice for traveling wear. And these have Oprah's seal of approval, as they were picked for Oprah's 2022 Favorite Things list. Eco-friendly and size-inclusive (the range goes through 6XL), these compression leggings are available in a plethora of hues. Plus, they feature double-side seaming and pockets.
Dr. Scholl's Time Off Platform Sneakers
Celebrated for their consciously comfortable footwear, these sneakers from Dr. Scholl's are tricked out with tons of features for all-day comfort. Inside, anatomical cushioning and arch support keep you covered while a lightweight, anti-slip platform sole protects on the outside. This minimalist sneaker looks just as good with a matching suit as it does a low-key sweat set.
J. Crew Cashmere-Wool Travel Wrap
Let's be honest, you can't always count on the airline's blankets to keep you warm, and some even leave annoying fluff behind. Stay warm and stylish with your own wearable blanket by way of this travel necessity from J. Crew that comes in eight different colors.
Athleta Everlasting Button-Down Top
A classic button-down is a travel essential that elevates any in-transit look. Athleta's Everlasting button-down has all the details you need: a lightweight, odor-control stretch fabric and longer length for coverage. Luckily, you can cover all your neutral bases with navy, black, and white. Plus, it comes in an extended range of sizes from XXS to 3X.
Chico's Travelers No Tummy Pants
Chico's Travelers collection is made from wrinkle-resistant fabrics in comfortable silhouettes. Thanks to a pull-on waist and front darts, these No Tummy Pants are flattering and always look put together. If red isn't your vibe, they come in three other colors as well as the bestselling wide-leg Hutton pants in black.
Hoka Transport GTX Sneakers
Hoka's sneakers are cult Oprah Daily office favorites and podiatrist-approved . Not only do they look good with just about everything, but the Transport GTX also offer quick-toggle lacing for an easy on-off, as well as a full-length EVA midsole for the highest level of cushioning and arch support.
Spanx Perfect Pant High-Rise Flare
The perfect pant does not exist—wait, yes it does, and here it is. This high-rise flare option is designed with premium ponte fabric and a comfortable pull-on design for maximum comfort and easy styling on your flight. Plus, it comes in size XS to 3X, so there's something for everyone.
Dr. Motion Compression Socks with Enhanced Cushioning (3 Pack)
Compression socks are always a good ideal for traveling. We recommend these styles from Dr. Motion that offer graduated compression of 8 to 15 mmHg while providing arch support. Unlike other socks that can feel scratchy or clammy, these are soft, moisture-wicking, and subtly cushioned.
Spanx Women's AirEssentials 1/2 Zip Sweater
Sometimes nothing less than sweats will do, and here is where Spanx really excels. Oprah picked this top for her 2023 Favorite Things , saying, “Wow. Wow. Wow. May I tell you I got this set last year? I wore it in a photo shoot for O Quarterly and never looked back...” Why not pair it with the coordinating wide-leg pants for a full sweatsuit?
Everlane Organic Cotton Honeycomb Cardigan
This gorgeous honeycomb cotton cardigan is part of the latest iteration of Everlane Editions: The Art of Spring Layering. Crafted from responsibly sourced and lower-impact materials, this 100 percent organic cotton knit is ideal for layering before, during, and after your flight.
32º DEGREES Lightweight Recycled Poly-Fill Shirt Jacket
Sometimes a full on coat is not needed for travel, but you can never be quite sure of the weather. That's why a a little packable shacket—part shirt, part jacket—comes in. In black, olive green, or dark blue, the jacket will be your go-to for travel. Keep in mind, it runs slightly big in order to allow for comfortable layering of hoodies or sweaters underneath. There's a reason why Oprah tapped it on her Favorite Things list .
JW PEI Aylin Canvas Cellphone Crossbody Bag
Making sure you have all your essentials when going through airport security can be tough, but with this crossbody, you'll have your phone and cards right at hand.
Naadam Original 100 Percent Cashmere Sweater
Warm, soft, and chic—few things are as reliable as a plain cashmere sweater. At under $100, Naadam's perfect crewneck comes in core and limited-edition hues. Pro tip: Order a size or two larger than your usual for an ultra-cozy fit. And what's more, the sweater is machine-washable (yes, you read that right).
Original Puffer Hug Scarf
If you're traveling for business to a location that you're not thrilled about, chances are you are in need of a hug. Don't worry, this puffer hug scarf doubles as a warm wrap to keep you cozy and a hug to make you feel loved. It's fleece-lined with deep pockets so you can also store your ID and credit card without any issues.
Birdies Vesper Seven-Layer Cloud Comfort Loafers
Birdies' classic loafer will elevate any airport look. They're crafted with tumbled Nappa leather, a no-slip rubbber sole, and the brand's signature seven-layer footbed for ultra-cushy support. Plus, the Vesper comes in sizes 5 to 12, and a range of colors like silver leather and cappucino with raffia accents.
K. Carroll Accessories Taylor Tote Red
These vegan suede totes are great for hauling all your in-flight essentials, with plenty of room. There are a range of colors to choose from. "Not too big or too small, this vegan suede tote is just the right size for your on-the-go loved one in need of a stylish solution," Oprah said when highlighting the Taylor tote on her 2022 Favorite Things list.
Asutra Silk Eye Mask & Pillow
Oprah chose this eye mask for her 2023 Favorite Things list. "Sleeping with a mask is life-changing—I cannot tell you how much the quality of my sleep has improved," she said. "This weighted 100 percent silk one stays down and doesn’t let even a pinch of light in.” Co-owned by superstar Venus Williams, Asustra produces eye pillows that are filled with lavender and flax. Whether you want to meditate or snooze during your flight, this adjustable mask will definitely relax you.

Fly in Comfort: Best Plus Size Airport Outfits
Airports aren’t the most comfortable place. In fact, they’re not really comfortable at all.
There’s a lot of sitting, walking, standing, and spending way too much money on bottles of water and tiny bags of potato chips.
And unfortunately, it’s usually more than a 20-minute ordeal.
Yes, it’s worth it when you finally get to that Mexican all-inclusive you’ve been day dreaming about, or you’re hitting up the casinos in V e gas .
But it’s a real pain to go through all the steps before you arrive on vacation.
That’s why making sure you put together the right plus size airport outfits is important.
Once you talk through that security scanner you’re stuck in the airport on on the plane until you get to where you’re going.
You don’t want to be too hot or cold, you don’t want to your pants to be constantly riding up or your shoes to give you blisters.
Instead, you want to make sure you’re comfortable the entire time, whether your journey is 3 hours, 8 or 18.
So, let’s talk about picking the right outfit for your next flight.
What to wear: must-have pieces for plus size outfit airports
Best plus size air travel pants
I know not everyone’s on board with the whole leggings-as-pants thing, but the BEST plus size air travel pants are going to be a comfortable pair.
A pair of compression leggings (LOVE these PowerSoft ones by Old Navy) are perfect for any length of flying time.
But they’re definitely a must-have if you’re headed on longer flights.
They’re going to keep you supported and that blood pumping.
Not to mention they’re easy to walk and sit in, and they won’t dig in awkwardly anywhere.
If you’re not pro leggings, something loose and casual like Athleta’s Brooklyn Ankle pant is a fantastic pick.
They don’t provide the support that you’ll get with compression leggings, but they’re comfortable and easy to move in.
If you’re traveling all day long, you’ll want something like these on your side.
Layer the right tops
One of the most important travel clothing tips is layering.
I highly recommend starting with a tank top, then make sure you bring a top or two you can layer with.
Your best bet is going to be:
- Tight tank top
- Thin long-sleeved tee
- Zip up sweater or cardigan
Of course, you can bring whatever you’re most comfortable with.
But a variety like that is going to make it easier for you to self-regulate.
You can take things off when it’s cold and put things back on when you’re too cold.
Image: Amazon
Comfortable shoes
Travel days are terrible if you have bad shoes on.
You want something light, comfortable and supportive. And you need to be able to wear them all day long — literally.
The first rule is, no brand new shoes.
You need to break shoes in before you wear them out and about on a travel day.
You’re walking, standing and sitting all day long in the airport, and it’s a breeding ground for blisters and other pain-inducing issues.
You’ll also want to avoid heels or clunky boots.
Flat and supportive is going to be the best.
I always wear a pair of Skechers traveling because I have wide feet and they’re hella comfy.
Regardless of what brand you wear, you’ll most likely want close-toed shoes.
Simple flats, slip-ons or runners are going to be your best bet.
Best accessories
Accessories are kind of a complex topic for air travel.
Realistically, you want to avoid all of your jewels and other fancy things that you might wear.
However, a scarf-sweater than doubles as a blanket is the perfect solution.
An alternative to a sweater scarf is a thinner towel that can double as a blanket.
I carry 2 of these large towels from H&M, but a big Turkish towel is also a great answer.
You want something thin enough to bring along with you, but good enough to get the job of keeping you warm done.
For the record: I’ve used those H&M towels as both a towel and a blanket on many occasions.
They’re hands-down one of my travel must haves.
What else to bring on the plane
We’ve got a full post on what to bring on the plane with you in your personal item and carry-on .
But there are a few clothing-adjacent tips and tricks I can give you.
- Bring a towel instead of a travel blanket — travel blankets are great, but they’re also a massive waste of space. You want to focus on items that can serve double-duty, and a good towel can actually perform 3 jobs. It can be a travel blanket, a towel, and a scarf.
- Store an extra set of clothes in your carry-on — if you have a checked bag, you want to make sure that you have an extra set of clothes in your carry-on just in case your bag gets lost. Make sure that set includes extra undies, a top or two, and a swimsuit if you’re going somewhere warm!
- Make sure you have any glasses or medication you need with you — again, this is in case your bag doesn’t make it to your destination at the same time you do. It’s best to have your important things on-hand.
Style vs comfort: enjoying your travel
There’s always a question as to whether you want to prioritize looking good or feeling good.
Sure, you might be able to accomplish both.
But you really do want to aim for comfy over cute.
I once read a social media post where someone was complaining because everyone’s wearing “trashy” leggings at the airport instead of dressing up.
But you’re going to see these people for a fraction of a date, and no one will remember you after.
Prioritize your own comfort, worry about cute Insta pictures when you arrive at your destination.
There’s always time!

5 Comfy And Chic Plus Size Travel Outfit Ideas

If you’re anything like me, then you want a plus size travel outfit that will make you look stylish while also keeping you comfortable, especially when you’re headed to the airport for a long flight!
Well, sis, I’ve got you covered! I have rounded up the most comfortable outfits that are also going to have you jet-setting in style.
This post is all about the best plus size travel outfit.
What Is An Airport Outfit?
Simply put, an airport outfit is any casual look that functions as both stylish and comfortable. When you’re about to sit on a squished plane for the next few hours, the last thing you want to think about is denim digging into you, am I right? The best travel outfits also save you space in your suitcase. Think of it like this – if you’re trying to fit all of your clothes into a carry-on, you may choose to wear your bulkier denim jacket instead of packing it. The same rule goes for bulkier shoes or accessories.
Plus Size Travel Outfit #1
This look is one of the best travel outfits for the warmer months, and, honestly, it’s an outfit I find myself reaching for in my closet quite often. These bike shorts are a classic favorite for me. Seriously…I own at least five pairs. They’re comfortable, they don’t ride up, and I don’t feel suffocated when I’m sitting down.
Plus Size Travel Outfit #2
One of the best investments you can make in your wardrobe is pretty much anything from the Spanx Air Essentials line . Now listen, it is a little bit on the pricier side, and when I saw other people talking about it, I was like, there is no way this is going to be worth the money, but guys, these products are hands down some of the best investments I’ve made in my wardrobe. Spanx is one of those brands that never misses a beat. This jumpsuit is perfect for travel unless you’re on a flight that is more than a few hours where you would have to use the bathroom…that could get complicated, haha!
Plus Size Travel Outfit #3
Does anything really say stylish, like a classic, all-black look? This watch and the rest of the accessories in this airport travel outfit are what really bring it together. The accents instantly make you look more polished. You can really wear anything as long as you throw on a chic-looking watch or a bracelet to really bring it all together .
Plus Size Travel Outfit #4
I don’t about y’all, but every single time I step on a plane, I’m instantly frozen. This is one of those travel outfits that serve two purposes. The cardigan is going to keep me warm and cozy , but it’s also a pretty bulky material, so I’m saving space in my suitcase by styling it as a part of my airport outfit. This jumpsuit also comes in tall and petite lengths , which is so helpful for all of the different torso lengths.
Plus Size Travel Outfit #5
Once again, I have to give a nod to one of the comfiest pieces I’ve ever owned – the Spanx Air Essentials half-zip pullover . I know everyone says this, so it’s kind of cliche at this point, but it seriously feels like butter! These tapered pants are actually also a part of that same line . You can mix and match different colors, as I’ve pictured here, or you can go for a matching set. Whatever floats your boat, sis!
Frequently Asked
What is the best outfit to wear on a plane.
Truthfully, the best travel outfits are the ones you’re going to be the most comfortable in, and I mean that physically and mentally. When you look good, you feel good, so always choose an outfit that makes you feel like that girl! Depending on the length of your flight, you could be pretty cramped for a few hours, so ideally, you would wear things with lots of stretch and breathability.
Should I Wear Jeans To The Airport?
Sis…now why would you do that? In all seriousness, I would advise against it unless you have a super short flight or are doing something immediately when you arrive at your destination that would require a ready-to-go look. However, even then, I feel like you’d be better off with something like a jumpsuit where you could be comfortable on your flight but also dress it up a bit when you arrive.

Creating Chic Travel Outfits
Who doesn’t love going on vacation and traveling to a new destination? I know I definitely do!
But while I love exploring new places, I also know that travel days can be pretty hectic! It’s important to be prepared with comfortable outfits you can easily spend the day in while navigating airports or sitting in rental cars.
If you’re in need of fashionable and functional travel outfits, you’ll love my looks below. I have airport outfits for every style and season, so whether you’re traveling to a tropical paradise or a winter wonderland, you’ll be set!
denim jacket + a puffer vest
get the look:
Layers are a must if you’re traveling in the fall or winter! I love starting my travel ensemble with basics like my Lululemon Align leggings and oversized Jil Sander tee (more affordable option here ) , then layering as needed.
Above, I added my Madewell denim jacket and Quince puffer vest to keep me warm and cozy both on and off the plane!
leggings+ a bomber jacket
An oversized tee and black leggings are the start of my airport outfit here as well, but this time, I’m staying warm with a sleek and modern bomber jacket .
I recommend choosing an outfit like this when it’s a little warmer out. The jacket is perfect for staying warm in a cold airport but can easily be removed as needed. And, these New Balance 574 sneakers are so comfortable!
linen pants + a denim jacket
Drawstring linen pants are an absolute essential in my spring and summer wardrobe! They are so comfortable and easy to wear during a travel day, and the denim jacket is stylish and adds a layer of warmth – airplane AC is always so intense!
I love this Quince phone crossbody for convenience (it fits a passport too) . And I always recommend wearing sneakers or other comfy footwear when traveling – bonus points if your shoes can be easily slipped off and on when going through security!
wool coat + Ugg slippers
Looking for the ultimate cozy travel outfit?
Leggings and Ugg Tasman slippers are definitely my go-to for comfort in the cooler months (the Uggs have been selling out constantly, so here’s a perfect high-quality Tasman dupe ) . And a long wool camel coat is not only chic but also perfect for layering – it doubles as a blanket on the plane!
I also love this long knitted coatigan from Mango as a great travel piece.
travel in neutrals
I love simple, neutral outfits because they always look effortless and stylish. A plain white tee and black linen drawstring pants are ultra-comfy but still have a chic, put-together aesthetic.
This outfit is great for summer traveling, but I always bring a sweater with me so I don’t get too cold on the plane.
bomber jacket + joggers
This is another cold-weather travel outfit that I love! Lululemon fleece joggers and a crewneck sweatshirt are great base layers and the bomber jacket adds an extra cozy feel.
And if you ask me, this ensemble has a laid-back, sporty feel, making adidas Samba sneakers and a baseball cap the perfect finishing touch!
More Comfy Airport Outfits
I’ve stalked my favorite fashion influencer and have found even more comfy travel airports that are modern and chic. I think you’ll love them too!
trench coat + trousers
You don’t have to be traveling to France to dress like a Parisian while on vacation!
A trench coat is a classic piece in French fashion, and with good reason. It’s lightweight, versatile, and oh-so chic – what more could you want for an airport outfit?
I recommend using a trench coat to layer over other pieces when traveling in cold weather or to stay dry while out and about on rainy days. A trench coat can also be used for a modern and refined look, making it perfect for any occasion!
matching sweat set
I think a matching sweatsuit set makes a perfect travel outfit because it’s comfortable and versatile. You can wear a sweatsuit set to stay warm while traveling in the fall or winter, and you can wear it as is or add layers if needed.
And I love that you can double up on a matching set by using it to build other outfits during your trip.
try (comfortable) denim
Jeans are a must to bring along when traveling, and you can’t go wrong wearing it as part of your airport outfit, so long as your jeans are comfortable and not too snug !
One thing I love about jeans is how easy they are to care for. Jeans can be worn days in a row before needing to be washed (especially in cold weather) , so being a low-maintenance and versatile piece makes them great for traveling in my opinion.
cozy shearling coat
A warm coat will keep you ultra-comfy as you fly. And if you ask me, a shearling coat or shacket is a travel piece you can’t go wrong with! This piece will keep you warm even on the coldest days, and it’s also fashionable and versatile enough to wear with so many outfits.
Such a chic and neutral-toned coat is a must if you’re traveling to or from somewhere chilly. And this coat will look great while keeping you cozy everywhere from the airplane to local cafes to must-see landmarks!
leggings + a denim jacket
If you want to know one of the best things to wear while traveling, look no further than a classic pair of leggings.
Comfortable and stretchy leggings are a perfect piece to wear, whether you’ll be walking through an airport or sitting on a plane. I suggest searching for a pair made of breathable material and one with pockets for easy access to your phone and other essentials.
a long, cozy coat
If you plan on traveling in the fall or winter ( or maybe your destination will have chilly weather ), bringing a coat is a no-brainer. And I think a long coat like this is an easy way to add a stylish and modern aesthetic to your outfits.
A piece like this will keep you nice and cozy during a busy day of traveling, and you’re sure to use it when trying local cuisine or attending a wine tasting. I love that it adds an elegant touch to a simple outfit like this, so you know you can pair this with any look, both casual and refined.
What should I wear to an airport in the summertime?
If you’ll be spending time at the airport in the summer, you will want an outfit that is both comfortable and cool. Choose lightweight and breathable pieces such as:
- Short-sleeved tee or tank top
- Lightweight leggings
- Flowy dress
- Midi or maxi skirt
- Cotton button-up shirt
- Linen blazer
- Sandals or sneakers
Comfy Airport Outfits for Summer
There are tons of cute airport outfits that are perfect for hot summer days. I’ve got my favorite comfy airport outfits for summer below, so you don’t have to sweat it when packing or traveling!
a maxi dress
What would the summer be without gorgeous flowy dresses to spend your days in? This breezy piece will keep you comfy and cool throughout your day, and it will definitely be comfortable to wear while sitting on a plane.
And in my opinion, a dress is a great piece to bring along on your vacation. You can style it casually as you travel or when checking out local spots at your destination, and it can easily be transformed into a chic date night look with a high-end handbag and some gold-toned jewelry.
linen trousers + a tank
Next on the list of comfy airport outfits for summer are flowy, linen pants. These are another fantastic travel piece you can wear for any occasion, from laid-back to classy and refined. So whether you plan on exploring tourist hot spots or dining on gourmet cuisine, these pants will fit into your vacation looks effortlessly.
I also think that crisp light-colored pants are perfect for a summer outfit, and the relaxed fit also makes them comfy enough for long travel days. They’ll fit easily into your luggage, and these lightweight trousers will definitely be a staple in your vacation wardrobe.
oversized blazer + bike shorts
I know I’m not the only one who loves layering an oversized blazer over any outfit!
Adding a blazer to an outfit is a great way to elevate your look when it comes to comfy airport outfits for summer. A blazer instantly adds a stylish and modern vibe to any ensemble, so it’s a perfect styling piece to bring while traveling.
oversized button-up
Cotton button-up shirts are a great way to feel comfortable and look chic in the summer. I suggest wearing this versatile piece over a crop top and black leggings, like in the outfit above, or keep it buttoned and tied in the front for a cute and casual aesthetic.
A button-up shirt is also another perfectly versatile piece for an airport outfit. I love that you can wear it out for a fancy dinner, pair it with jeans for a casual look, or layer it over a bikini during a tropical vacation.
matching skirt + tank
Go for maximum comfort and style in a stretchy, ribbed midi skirt and a matching top! A skirt and top set like this are lightweight and breezy but still offer plenty of coverage while traveling.
You’ll also have a perfect piece to wear for anything from sightseeing to a night out. And, my favorite thing about a matching set is that it can be kept together or mixed and matched with other pieces in your travel wardrobe. So you’ll have plenty of outfit options to choose from while on vacation.
bike shorts + hoodie
In my opinion, running shorts and a hoodie are great for casual and comfy airport outfits. The biking shorts are very travel-friendly since they’re easy to spend a whole day in and won’t take up much space in your bag. Plus, you can wear them as part of other laid-back outfits or if you plan to stay on top of your workout routine on your trip.

7 Stylish airplane outfits + inspo for comfy women’s travel outfits
By: Author Monica
Categories Blog , Packing Tips , Travel Tips
For some people, picking out your airplane outfit is an afterthought. You’ve picked your outfits for your holiday and haven’t even thought about what to wear to get there!
But for others, this is a big deal!
I love picking out stylish airplane outfits. I love getting them ready and hanging them up so they’re waiting for me in the morning before an early flight! It’s all part of my holiday routine and it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t have my airport outfit ready and waiting!
I also love that activewear has been such a huge trend for so long because this makes it much easier to find stylish outfits for flying. Yes, activewear and stylish loungewear all the way!
This blog post is for those of you who want to look stylish while you fly….but would also really like to stay in your PJs and be cosy and comfy!
Here it is, stylish airplane outfits that are comfy, cosy and flattering…
The links to all the products mentioned in the post are listed at the end.
- Wide leg joggers (super comfy, flattering and more stylish than regular sweatpants)
- Sweater cardigan (also great for chilly evenings on holiday)
- Cosy but thin long sleeve t-shirt
- New Balance trainers
- Carry on backpack
- Delsey suitcase
- Insulated water bottle
What NOT to wear on a plane
But before we go any further, let’s start with the basics. What shouldn’t you wear on a plane?
- Anything that’s going to crease
- Anything uncomfortable
- Anything hot that you can’t quickly remove
- Shoes you can’t slip on and off easily
- Skirts or shorts that will ride up super high when you sit down
- Tight jeans that will dig into your belly and crotch
- Anything skimpy without having something to put on top
- Light colours
- A jumpsuit or playsuit – because you have to take the whole thing off which can be awkward in a tiny airplane toilet
Two things that instantly make you look more stylish on a plane
Have you ever noticed that celebrities always look super stylish when they fly, but they’re also usually wearing comfy activewear? It’s because they’re wearing sunglasses and a hat. Honestly, try it. You’ll instantly look more glam.
The classic travel outfit
Comfortable all-black airplane outfit
My go-to outfit for flying is this combo:
- Black leggings (these Butterluxe leggings from Amazon really are worth the hype!)
- Comfy trainers (I used to be a Veja fan but I’m currently loving the New Balance 327′ s)
- A basic t-shirt
- An oversized hoodie
- Crossbody bag or The Travel Hack Tote (out of stock but The Travel Hack Backpack is available)
- Oversized scarf
This is instant comfort but still kind of stylish. The black colours won’t show any mucky stains and you’re going to be warm and cosy without being too hot.
If you’ll probably take your shoes off then don’t forget to add socks to your bag.
- Elastic fabric; Dri-FIT
- Elastic belt
Love these classic Veja trainers but I will warn that they take a few days to break them in. If you’re getting them brand new for your holiday then I’d also get some moleskin comfort skin plaster things to protect your heels from blisters.
- Ecological And Sustainable Materials
- Organic Cotton Lining
- Expanded Pu And Organic Cotton Insole
This hoodie comes in lots of colours and it’s so comfy and cosy. I’m seriously tempted to get it in a few more colours because I love it!

Why wear all black on a plane?
I usually wear all black on the plane for two reasons. Firstly, because I often end up getting grubby on a plane. I had a rare fight without my kids recently so I risked it and wore a creamy brown dress on the plane. I thought I’d be fine! Until some poor guy fainted in the aisle, knocking me and my drink all over myself. The guy was OK (he was hungover!) but I’m just sharing that little story to highlight that anything can happen. Even if you think you’re not the kind of person to get messy, you just don’t know on a plane!
The second reason I wear all black on a plane is because I’ll normally wear the same outfit to come home as what I wore on the way out there. So if it does get a bit grubby then at least it’s usually well hidden.
The slightly more stylish but comfy airplane outfit
If you like the classic airplane outfit above but you want it to be a bit fancier then you just need to dress it up with leather-look leggings and a trench coat.

What to wear on a plane if you’re going straight out when you arrive
If you’re taking a quick weekend break and you’ve got early flights to your destination then there’s a high chance you’ll be heading straight out into the city when you arrive. Maybe you’ll dump your bags at the hotel or maybe you’ll be straight out to explore.
If this is the case then you’re going to want to wear something on the plane that is super comfy but also stylish and appropriate for exploring a new destination.
My advice here is to wear something like a casual, long black dress and team it with tights and boots if the weather is cold.
What if it’s really hot when I’m flying?
If it’s really hot then I’d wear a loose, black dress like mentioned above or swap the leggings for cycling shorts. I’d still take a comfy hoody because airports and planes can be chilly and you can use it as a pillow if you don’t wear it.
What’s the temperature on a plane?
It’s worth remembering that the temperature on a plane doesn’t really change (once the plane doors are shut and the aircon is working), no matter what time of year it is. The temperature on a plane is between 22-24 degrees C. It can feel colder because you’re sitting still and rarely move so I always like to wear fairly warm clothes on a plane.
BUT – it can take ages to board a plane and the heaters or air conditioning don’t start working until everyone has boarded and the doors are shut. If it’s summer then the plane can be HOT HOT HOT when you’re boarding and it could be freezing cold if it’s cold out.
So it’s worth remembering that layers are important here!
What are the best shoes to wear on a plane?
For most journeys I wear trainers on a plane.
My two favourites are the On Cloudnova trainers and Veja trainers . Both are comfy and stylish and I’ll wear them when I arrive. The Cloudnovas are also fine for running so if I know I’ll be taking a morning run while I’m on holiday then they’re my number one choice.
If I’m travelling long haul then I always take my shoes off because my feet swell and it’s comfier, so I like to wear shoes I can easily remove. Sliders, sandals or trainers are perfect and I’ll keep a pair of socks in my handbag.
If I’m travelling to a cold destination then I usually won’t have any choice but to wear my chunky winter boots on the plane. I usually travel wearing my Dr Martens Chelsea Boots. They’ve heavy and bulky and take up too much space in my luggage so I’ll need to wear them on the plane.
What jacket or coat should you wear with your airport outfit?
For most of us, the jacket we wear on the plane is going to be determined by the weather in our destination.
A lot of the time I don’t actually wear my coat on a plane, I just carry it onto the plane and place it straight in the overhead lockers to save space in my luggage or avoid it getting squished or crumpled.
- Cold weather – mid-length down coat (I have this one from Arket and I LOVE it)
- Hot weather – Just a chunky cardigan in case it’s cold on the plane or for chilly evenings
- Warm weather – Blazer /trench coat/denim jacket
Never wear a jumpsuit on a plane
If I have one rule about what to wear on a plane, it’s this: Never wear a jumpsuit!
This is because when you go to the toilet you’ll need to take the whole thing off. This is a pain and it’s awkward in a small toilet. It’s also a bit embarrassing and never wracking because you’re then completely naked – I always have the fear someone will walk in!
It becomes even more awkward if you put a jumper on top of your jumpsuit and then you also have to take your jumper off.
Trust me, I’ve done it before. Never wear a jumpsuit on a plane!
Stylish suitcases
You’ll notice that stylish outfits for flying look even better when accompanied by stylish luggage!
My faves are:
Antler Clifton Hard Shelled Suitcases
The Travel Hack Cabin Case for a cabin suitcase
The Travel Hack Tote for hand luggage

You look fabulous in your travel gear but please don’t encourage others take their shoes off on the plane.
Sunday 25th of June 2023
@Monica, I agree. You need to exercise your feet/ankles whilst flying and taking your shoes off allows the blood circulation to flow better and minimise swelling. Wearing slip on shoes is a must for flying for this reason. Thanks for a great article!
Wednesday 19th of October 2022
Thank you but I ALWAYS take my shoes off on a plane! I wouldn't walk around with no shoes on or wiggle my bare feet near anyone but my feet always swell and it's much more comfortable on long haul flights. I know in an emergency situation you'd need your shoes on but I don't think you can spend a long haul flight sitting on the edge of your seat prepped for an emergency.

5 Questions To Ask Yourself When You’re Looking For A Plus Size Flight Outfit
When it comes to flying in a larger body , it’s important to make sure you’re as comfortable as you can possibly be. Small seats and impossible-to-predict temperatures mean that every chance you get to make things easier, you absolutely should.
Choosing a comfortable flight outfit, of course, is the best way to do this.
Here at Plus Size Travel Too we know everyone is different when it comes to comfort, which is why we’ve put together a list of 5 questions you can ask to find the right outfit for you.
What Clothes Can You Easily Layer?
First and foremost, you need to be sure you’re choosing an outfit that has multiple layers to it. Not only does this help when you arrive at a destination that may have a different temperature than the one you’re departing from, but it gives you the opportunity to add/remove clothes should the plane temperature not be what you expect.
There’s absolutely no way to tell how hot or cold a flight is going to be as usually, cabin crew control this. From freezing cold air throughout the plane to air-con systems that don’t work properly, it really is luck of the draw.
Whether this is a strapping dress with a jacket or a cami top and a sweater, make sure you’re not dressing for just one temperature.
What Is Something You Can Get On And Off Easily?
If you’re going to be using the bathroom (which chances are high on a long haul flight) you’re going to need something that you can take on and off easily in a small space. Plane bathrooms are notoriously small and if you’re going to have to contort yourself into all sorts of aerobics positions just to be able to do your thing, you’re going to need something that either comes off entirely or something that stretches when you stretch! This means things like leggings and dresses are a yes and jumpsuits and yoga pants are a no.
Plane bathrooms are notoriously small and if you’re going to have to contort yourself into all sorts of aerobics positions just to be able to do your thing, you’re going to need something that either comes off entirely or something that stretches when you stretch!
What Is Going To Be Comfortable For You To Sit Down In For A Long Period Of Time?
It’s no secret you spend a lot of time on a flight sat and so with that in mind, you need to choose an outfit that you know you can comfortably sit down in. Usually, this means something without a tight waistband or a button/zip to do them up. Belts are usually a bad idea too, as they’ll dig into your stomach.
What Footwear Is Best For Feet That Swell In-Flight?
Again, this is going to be different for everyone, so you need to think about what is going to be a good fit for you if your feet start to swell.
Whether you’re wearing flight socks or you‘re choosing to fly without, having comfortable and flexible shoes is essential. Here at PSTT we tend to opt for adjustable sandals like Tevas , but we know a lot of people like to travel in sneakers they can loosen if needed.
Some people may find that they benefit from using flight socks to help stop any swelling. These ones designed for wide calves are perfect!
What Makes YOU Feel Comfortable?
Finally, once you’ve answered all of the above questions, try on your outfit and see if it makes you feel comfortable. Sit down in it for a hours and get used to wearing it for a long period of time. Once you find the perfect outfit for you, chances are you’ll replicate it every time going forward.

We are headed to be the biggest traveling season of the year, well at least to some capacity so I thought I’d share with you some cute and comfy plus-size airport outfits. When it comes to travel I like to be comfortable but also look put together. I used to travel a lot before I had my children and I have met all kinds of travelers at the airport; From the very chic and stylish gal to the I just woke up and headed to the airport gal. No matter where you fall in that spectrum I hope you will find something to wear below.
Plus Size Airport Outfit Idea #1: Leggings, Sweatshirt, and Leather Moto jacket
The easiest way to look cute and comfy is to wear a pair of leggings with an oversized sweatshirt and finish the look with a black moto jacket and your comfiest sneakers.

12 Outfits to Wear on Your Next Long Flight, According to Frequent Flyers
The art of crafting an outfit for a long flight is exactly that—an art. Obviously, comfort is priority number one since you could be sitting for 10, maybe even 20 hours, depending on where you're headed. There's also utility to keep in mind. We love to travel with a crossbody bag or fanny pack for this exact reason—not to mention packing space and style. Sure, you could wear pajamas (preferably the fancy, feathered kind) to the airport, but with so many designers transitioning to a more comfort-driven aesthetic since the pandemic, there are plenty of fashion-approved alternatives that look elevated and are soft and flexible like your go-to sleepwear.
To ensure that your in-flight experience is on par with your destination, we found 12 outfits sure to have you looking and feeling fresh, despite the 10-plus-hour flight time, and we called on two frequent flyers for their tried-and-true tips.
You'll Need: Ribbed Top + Matching Ribbed Pants + Fanny Pack
According to Nana Agyemang , the CEO of EveryStylishGirl and a social media editor who travels long-distance once a month, a comfortable set is a must for in-flight comfort. " Comfort is my top priority [when I fly], so I try to pick clothes that don't restrict me and give me freedom and space to move," Agyemang says.
Even more crucial, though, is a fanny pack, which Agyemang considers to be the ultimate travel companion: "They fit so much in them, and since mine is literally attached to my hip, it's easily accessible."
You'll Need: Oversize Sweatshirt + Baggy Sweatpants + Sport Sandals
"I try to wear anything without what I call 'pokies,' which are things that can poke you when you're sitting for long periods of time: buttons, snaps, too-tight waistbands, hooks, itchy tags, etc.," says Alyssa Cosca relli , an editor and stylist who traveled multiple times per month pre-pandemic.
You'll Need: Wool Coat + Sweatshirt + Wide-Leg Sweatpants
Let your top layer act as both your style enhancer and an extra carry-on, Coscarelli suggests. According to her, a pocket-rich coat lets you sneak in stuff that doesn't fit in your bag, and it doubles as an extra pillow. Win-win.
You'll Need: Plissé Top + Plissé Pants + Retro Sneakers
Agyemang is adamant about not wearing jeans or heels on long flights. "They're so restrictive and painful, in my opinion," she says. Try something like this plissé set on Amaka Hamelijnck paired with retro New Balance sneakers—Agyemang's go-to brand—instead.
You'll Need: Crew-Neck Sweatshirt + Matching Joggers + Oversize Blazer
"Since I prioritize comfort over style with the outfit, I like to accessorize with a cute, trendier bag if I can," Coscarelli says. This red Coperni bag Megan Adelaide's wearing is a perfect example of this travel style hack playing out IRL.
You'll Need: Quilted Jacket + Leggings + Rain Boots
One big tip: Avoid clothing that bares too much skin. " I always feel better being covered up on planes," Coscarelli says. An easy outfit recipe for doing so is a quilted jacket that can double as a pillow, cozy leggings that aren't too constricting, and chunky rain boots that would otherwise take up a lot of space in your luggage.
You'll Need: Hooded Sweatshirt + Yoga Pants + Big Bag + Sporty Sunglasses
Crewneck sweatshirts are great and all, but according to Coscarelli, the real in-flight must-have is a sweatshirt with a hood: "I always need a hood—it doubles as an eye mask when you need to sleep on a long flight. Plus, it's just extra cozy."
You'll Need: Long-Sleeve Maxi Dress + Trench Coat + Sneakers
Don't be afraid to wear a dress on the plane. In fact, if that's more aligned with your style and comfort zone, you should wear one. If you do, though, pick something that's soft, stretchy, and void of any "pokies."
You'll Need: Wool Coat + Crewneck Sweater + Short-Sleeve T-Shirt + Baggy Jeans
Jeans aren't your travel-day enemy—tight, constricting jeans are . By opting for a baggier, more worn-in pair, all the aforementioned issues with denim go out the window.
You'll Need: Trench Coat + Claw Clip + Big Tote Bag
"The big claw clip is another travel staple for me," says Agyemang. "I hate having my hair in my face when I travel, and the clip just keeps everything intact. I feel like it actually maintains the volume in my hair when I travel. Therefore, by the time I arrive at my destination and take my hair down, it's still full with body and bounce." Added tip: Bring extras in your XL tote bag in case the little prongs break off.
You'll Need: Fitted Turtleneck + Quilted Jacket + Track Pants
Since you never know what the in-flight temperature might be on your plane, layering can make or break your travel experience. Freezing for 13 hours sucks, but so does sweating the entire time. " I like to wear layers so that I'm bundled up when I need to be but can peel off the layers if it gets warm," Coscarelli says.
You'll Need: Oversize T-Shirt + Lightweight Khakis + Compression Socks + Sporty Sneakers
"I'm addicted to compression socks," says Coscarelli, who notes that they've helped her deal with discomfort, swelling, and bad circulation during long flights. *Buys compression socks.*

35 Best Women's Loungewear Sets to Pack on Your Next Trip
By Madison Flager and Paris Wilson
All products featured on Condé Nast Traveler are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.
Some may argue that traveling by plane is an occasion to dress up, but for most of us at Traveler, comfort is the main priority when planning a transit day ensemble: You want something loose enough that you won't need to readjust (or worse, unbutton) a few hours into a flight or road trip, but put-together enough to feel that you've made a switch out of pajamas and into a true outfit. Luckily, there is no shortage of loungewear sets these days.
Read on for 35 of the best loungewear sets to add to your travel wardrobe , many of which are sitting in our editors' dresser drawers. From upscale sweatsuits to cozy cashmere knits, they'll keep you comfy whether you're sitting on a plane, train, or in the passenger seat, and will get a re-wear on lazy vacation days when the only item on your to-do list is lounging around the Airbnb .
This article has been updated with new information since its original publish date. Additional reporting by Meaghan Kenny.
The Aerie LumberJane collection has been one of the brand's more popular releases. The collection features breathable, lightweight waffle fabric in shirts, shorts, and now polos. The LumberJane polo and short set are perfect for lazy vacation days spent shuffling around in your slippers . Each piece has raw seams along the sleeves, sides, and back that gives it a more lived-in look.
Buck Mason is at the forefront of elevated essentials. The Vintage Interloop set features an oversized crew that has a relaxed fit all around and thinly ribbed stiching on the cuffs to give more structure to the slouchy sleeves. The French terry sweatpants are slimming and so comfortable. Each set looks slightly different than the other, thanks to Buck Mason's Venice Wash technique that creates its cool, vintage look.
We're always raving about Girlfriend Collective, a size-inclusive, sustainably- and ethically-made brand. This set is made from half recycled, half organic cotton. They're available in your classic neutral colors, as well as this rich wine hue.
Kim Kardashian's shapewear and loungewear brand Skims never misses when it comes to cozy sets. The Cotton Fleece collection is a more sporty take on classic loungewear. The soft fleece shorts have an interior drawstring at the waist for a more customizable fit.
This chic pullover and sweat shorts both don the recognizable Alexander Wang logo. While the set is one of the trendiest pieces on our list, you'll be pleasantly surprised at just how soft the heavy brushed cotton terry is. Style the set with a small crossbody bag and pair of chunky dad sneakers for quick errands or walks around the city.
You can never go wrong with a simple high-waisted pant and tank top combo. The Anrabess sleeveless set is lightweight and thin, making it supremely packable in any weekender bag or carry-on. At just $30, it is one of the most affordable loungewear sets on our list.
Is there anything easier than throwing on a jumpsuit? Spanx AirEssentials jumpsuit is one of the brand's bestsellers—and it's just been restocked in more colors. We love the drawstring tie at the waist that gives the jumpsuit a more fitted and flattering look.
Traveler 's commerce producer, Paris Wilson , swears by Roots' loungewear. “I've been raving about Roots for years. It's hard to find a brand that doesn't skimp on quality,” she says. The Luxe Crew and Pintuck pant are made from a cotton and cashmere blend. While the material gives it a more chic look, the fit of the set is more relaxed and loose. This can easily be dressed up or down, and would look great with a sleek pair of white sneakers .
The loose fit of the Ramona sweatshirt compliments the brand's drawstring waist Jane shorts. The rouched terry fabric on the inside of each garment keeps you warm and cozy without overheating. As warmer days approach, the yellow dip-dye design is a must-have for your spring and summer wardrobe .
If you're looking for a more polished look, the Malibu set is for you. The set is made up of the Frank & Eileen Audrey Capelet and the Catherine Sweatpant . Each piece is made from 100 percent cotton triple fleece, making it incredibly soft. It's the perfect set for a long road trip or a chilly plane.
The Cool Stretch collection from Pact is made from breathable organic cotton. The soft, thin layers are a go-to summer fit when temperatures are high and you just want to chill inside. The tank top and shorts set comes in seven colorways and can be paired with Pact's Airplane cardigan or a cozy hoodie .
If you prefer something a little more roomy, the Oversized Tee and Harem Pant set from This is J is for you. It’s perfect for long-haul flights and road trips where comfort is at the top of your list, but you don’t want to step out in your pajamas. The soft, moisture-wicking fabric will keep you dry and comfortable whether you’re snuggled up on a train or plane.
This set is made for cold weather. The thick fabric will keep you warm and toasty whether you’re hanging inside with friends or out sightseeing. The top has a dropped shoulder sleeve that looks more oversized while the pants feature a wide-leg with a drawstring waist.. The set comes in 10 solid colors that are easy to pair with a slip-on sneaker or Ugg boots .
The soft ribbed knit of the Muse hoodie and sweatpant offers a lot of dimension to the duo. The set is lightweight enough that it can be worn over workout clothes without any bulkiness. The high-waisted joggers pair well with the cropped hoodie and offer a more chic silhouette.
You’ll be comfortable from head to toe with this ultra-soft pullover and pant set. The pants have a classic ‘70s wide-leg silhouette accompanied by an elastic waistband, while the pullover has a polo-inspired collar and a slightly cropped hem. An all-white set never goes out of style and will look great with a white sneaker .
The name tells you everything you need to know. The Coziest Cashmere Blend hoodie and jogger are ultra-soft. The fabric is warm yet breathable and the fact that it’s a blend gives you peace of mind that it won’t be ruined in the washing machine.
Traveler editors swear by Lunya's washable silk pajamas and cashmere Travel Set . The brand’s Silksweats complete its holy trinity of comfort. With a sherpa interior and thermoregulating abilities, you'll be comfortable without overheating in this set. Bonus: Both pieces are reversible so you can have two looks for one.
There's something to be said for a zip-up sweatshirt, even if they've largely been replaced by pullovers of late. For one, if your temperature flips from chilly to warm, you can regulate without bothering your seatmate while trying to take off your hoodie. We're a fan of the sweatpants, too: the deep pockets, cuffed ankles, and cashmere fabric are all plusses.
A new addition to OV's ultra-soft, lightweight, and durable CloudKnit line-up : this boxy T-shirt with a slightly cropped fit. It comes in charcoal, navy, mocha, fog white, and jasmine blue, all of which will match your go-to black leggings or joggers .
Awarded one of Oprah's Favorite Things in 2020, I was eager to put on Cozy Earth's ultra-soft joggers, and am happy to report they lived up to the hype. Made of a mix of premium viscose from bamboo, acrylic, and spandex, they're smooth and cool to the touch, and have a loose but not baggy fit. I've worn them a ton on WFH days, and would happily fly in them. Snag a matching pullover if you like the matching set look.
San Francisco–based Quince launched a maternity collection, which includes a nursing-friendly long sleeve and lounge joggers with an adjustable drawstring waistband. All of the collection's pieces are made with renewable materials like Tencel lyocell, a biodegradable fiber made from wood pulp; mulberry silk, a hypoallergenic and thermoregulating fabric; the company's SuperSoft fabric, a blend of recycled polyester and tencel; and sustainably- and humanely-sourced Mongolian cashmere.
Outdoor Voices’ All Day hoodie and sweatpants set really is made to wear from dusk to dawn. It aims to be the softest pair of sweats you will ever wear, and stacks up, with a CloudKnit fabric that feels as cozy as your most worn-in pair of pajamas. The sweatpants are high-rise and more fitted toward the bottom to give the most flattering look possible, too. The pieces can be bought individually and come in six different colors, from neutral charcoal to a rich Kalamata purple.
While former Traveler editor Jessica Puckett's favorite cashmere set has since sold out, Cuyana's Pima outfit is another great option for plane travel and lounging, particularly in warmer environments, as the material is soft, smooth, and breathable.
Former Traveler editor Corina Quinn turned us on to Vuori's DreamKnit Collection hoodie and jogger set. “The DreamKnit feels like a cloud—it's so soft and cozy, yet lightweight, so you don't get too hot or too cool in them,” she says. “On top of that, because there are a few different models of jogger pants and tops, my friends and I have all found a model that's flattering for us.” For a pair of sweats that make you feel like you’re wearing a real outfit without actually doing so, Vuori’s unbelievably soft, stretchy sets are an easy pick.
Friend + Folk is a size- and gender-inclusive brand that prioritizes a limited carbon footprint, and puts it into practice by way of free carbon neutral shipping, recyclable and plastic-free packaging, limited batch-production, and more. The Joon joggers are a favorite—the fit is roomy and comfortable yet still tailored, and the zippered pockets are ideal for stashing AirPods, lip balm, and other odds and ends without worrying they'll fall out as you dash through the airport. Pair them with the Perry pullover and you've got a new airport uniform.
Lululemon may be best known for its leggings and workout wear, but don't skip over the brand's loungewear. This set is made out of a smooth Softstreme material that is stretchy and feels smooth against your skin. It's a great loungewear set to wear if you run hot.
We love this Madewell number, made of a fleece-like Superbrushed terry fabric. Wide legs and a loose fit make it just the kind of thing we want to wear on long travel days, and the patch pockets are much appreciated. Since it does have tank top-style straps, bring a cardigan or other added layer for the plane.
Some loungewear is better suited for inside wear, like this cozy ribbed shorts set. Wear the pullover, with its bell sleeves and slit in the back, over leggings for long-haul flights. The stretchy shorts have a fairly short inseam, so they'll likely be more comfortable as a sleeping short or loungewear piece to change into when you arrive at your hotel or rental house.
This two-piece set might be the closest thing to sleepwear on this list, and yet is still cute enough to feel confident while wearing through the airport. It comes in a dozen colors, from basic heather gray to bold indigo blue, and pairs slouchy, relaxed fit pants with a scoop-neck button-up henley.
Sure, all sweatpants are designed to be comfortable, but the cotton, modal, and spandex fabric Knix uses takes things up a notch. The smooth, cooling, and slightly stretchy fabric feels fantastic against skin and looks a bit more put-together than typical sweatpant material.
Most loungewear tends to follow the same cut, so we appreciate Monos, a luggage brand , shaking things up when delving into clothing. This set is as soft as any sweatpants out there, with a mid-length wide-leg pant and a short sleeve V-neck tee that's just slightly cropped.
Anything labeled Signaturesoft nails both the rest day and flying-comfortably mood we're going for. The top and bottom have a streamlined shape and the sweatpants are tapered at the ankle. Both pieces are made of a comfortable rayon, acrylic, and spandex mix, so you’ll feel cozy while still looking put together. The sweatshirt and sweatpants can be purchased individually and come in nearly a dozen colors should you want to mix and match, and the sweatshirt passes the video-conferencing-chic test, in that it looks more like a standard sweater than workout wear.
Not a hoodie person? You might like this cowl-neck top, which comes with cropped pants, both made of a super soft jersey and spandex fabric. Shop the set in gray, sky blue, strawberry, or buttercream, and wear it on your next overnight flight to feel like you're in pajamas.
You may never want to put on pajamas again after wearing Softwear's Lounge Set. The fabric is buttery soft inside and out. Both the pullover and joggers are tailored and fitted with a clean silhouette—the top could pass for a normal sweater—while still being ultra soft. Plus, it’s long-lasting: The sustainable fabric is pilling-resistant and made to keep its shape after every wear.
Made for pregnant or nursing moms, this Everly Grey set is designed to fit a baby bump and make nursing easier with side openings on the top. Made of stretchy fabric with cuffed ankles and wrists and pockets on the hips, it's a loose, ever-so-slightly tailored look you'll wear again and again. Order it in one of four neutral colors: black, charcoal, oyster pink, or denim blue.

Comfy Airport Outfits
Looking for your next cute and comfy airport outfits for your next getaway? This post has you covered.
As a full-time travel blogger, I am always on the go and always looking for chic yet comfortable travel outfits that I can wear for even the longest flights.
I’ve tested out wearing numerous things and have put together my favorite cute airport outfits, and travel outfit ideas and inspiration for your next trip.
Let’s connect on social: Youtube | Instagram | Tiktok
AirEssentials Set
If you’re looking for comfy- look no further than this AirEssentials Set from Spanx. I tried this set in black last year, and I literally only wore this on all of my flights. This year they added even more colors!
The material is buttery soft and lightweight but still adds warmth. You won’t get overheated on your flight or have any unnecessary sweats when wearing this. I’ve washed mine plenty of times and it still looks brand new. I couldn’t recommend this enough for any airplane outfit.
And, this set has made the “Oprah’s Favorite Things” list for 2023!
PS. Spanx has given my readers 10% off any order with code: DANAXSPANX
A great pair of leggings will pull together plenty of cute airport outfits. I love these best-selling leggings from Amazon (comparable to the Lululemon align leggings).
They are buttery soft and comfortable for the longest flights, and they come in so many different colors.
If leggings aren’t your thing, I also recommend these loose-fitting yoga pants from Amazon for long flights. They have pockets and are incredibly comfortable to wear because the waistband is super stretchy and the material is buttery soft.
I recommend getting these in darker colors as they tend to pile after a few washes, but nonetheless, I still love them!

Camel on Camel
I love this color combination because it looks super chic, and you can easily recreate this airport style. Just grab your favorite neutral set and pair it with your favorite sunglasses, and sneakers for a casual yet comfy airport outfit.
Get the all Camel look inspired by Camila Coelho from Amazon below.
A blazer is a great way to dress up your airport outfit, especially if you are on a business trip. But you can still keep it comfy by wearing your blazer over your favorite sweater and leggings.
I love this combination because you can wear your blazer on your trip to save room in your luggage.
This oversized blazer from Amazon has been my go-to, and I’m going to style this at the airport soon. Size up for a looser fit.
Wearing trousers to the airport is a great way to look elevated, yet stay comfortable on a flight. Get a pair with some stretch to them so they move with your body. Plus if you have a meeting as soon as you land, you’ll just look more put together.
I personally love these trousers from Amazon . They have a cropped ankle and loose fit around the hips! (I own them in 2 colors and I would absolutely wear them on a plane)
I know this post is all about comfy airport outfits, but denim can be a great piece to style your travel outfit. Opt for denim if you have a shorter flight, or want to hit the ground running sightseeing.
Tip: Look for denim that has some stretch to it so you can easily sit and be comfortable. Avoid any rigid 100% cotton denim that offers no stretch.
Pair a comfortable pullover sweater, or comfy cardigan for a chic airport travel outfit.
Pairing an oversized teddy coat is a perfect winter airport outfit. It will definitely keep you warm and will be great if you are flying to a cold destination.
Pair your teddy with either a sweater or chic sweatpants for an effortless look!
Shop the look: Long Sherpa Jacket Alo $298
Puffer Vest
Another winter airport outfit is adding a puffer vest . I love this because you can easily take it on or off and adds warmth when you need it. Underneath you can add a long sleeve top and your favorite bottoms for an overall chic look.
A comfy black jumpsuit is a chic and simple summer airport outfit idea. You can style the jumpsuit so many different ways: denim jacket, coat, sweater, etc. And it’s easy because it’s only one piece. No need to worry about matching a top or bottom.
This amazon black jumpsuit i s a best seller and is perfect for any plane journey.
My only gripe with a jumpsuit is the bathroom situation. You’ll have to pull down your entire top to use the restroom- which can be annoying if you tend to go more often.
Sweatpants and Tank Top
Pairing your favorite tank with these baggy-style sweatpants is an effortless comfortable summer airport outfit! Plus you can always add layers over your tank with a jacket or sweater.
Cashmere Travel Wrap
A travel wrap is one of my go-to items when traveling because you can wear it as a scarf, as a blanket, or over your shoulders. The cashmere is so lightweight, breathable, soft, and warm! Plus, it has a chic look to it.
While a pure cashmere travel wrap is on the pricier side, I’ve been using the same one for over 3 years from White & Warren .
If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly alternative, J.Crew has a similar style.
Cashmere Knit Set
For the ultimate comfort, you can wrap your whole body in a sophisticated cashmere set. Cashmere is such a breathable lightweight material, that is perfect for flying.
This cashmere set is a splurge, so if you want the overall feel of cashmere, I’d recommend going for the cashmere wrap above.
Pullover Sweater
You can totally wear your favorite activewear on the plane. Pair your favorite colored leggings with a similar color sweater for an easy effortless airport style.
It’s a coat, and it’s a cardigan, meet the coatagin. This is essentially a cardigan but it has more weight to it, so it’s a bit warmer and acts like a coat. This is great for any fall or winter travel where your destination is a sunny place. You can take off your layers and arrive in style.
This exact coatagin is from Amazon , and while on the pricer side for Amazon- the quality is there and I love the color.
J.Crew also has a similar style sweater blazer in pretty neutral colors.
Black on Black
As a New Yorker, all black everything is my motto. This is a perfect example of comfy airport outfits. Plus I’m sure you have a black sweatshirt and black sweatpants at home.
Add a baseball hat, bag, and sunglasses to style this look and make it effortlessly chic.
Shop the Look: Nike Crewneck Sweater $65
Graphic Sweatshirt
Why not get into the travel mood with a cute destination graphic sweatshirt? This New York hoodie is a chic way to get into the travel mood. Pair this sweatshirt with black leggings, white sneakers, and boots for the ultimate comfy airport outfit.
Bike shorts and a sweatshirt are great summer airport outfits.
Faux Leather Leggings
I could go on and on about faux leather leggings for airport outfits because they have the comfort of a legging, but they make any outfit look really put together.
I paired my faux leather leggings with my favorite Spanx AirEssentials zip hoodie below.

Long Cardigan
A long cardigan acts both as a sweater, plus the extra fabric can be wrapped around your body for extra warmth. Amazon has plenty of affordable long cardigans that make for a great travel outfit.
Plus you can wear them on your trip, which saves room in your suitcase.
Shop the look: Cardigan $85
Leather Jacket
A leather jacket adds plenty of style and comfort when traveling. It’s a versatile piece that can be worn with jeans or comfy sweats but still dresses up your look.
I love my leather Madewell jacket, it’s buttery soft, and comfortable which is the perfect travel accessory.
Striped Shirt
Add a little nautical feel with a striped top. I usually tend to gravitate toward solid colors while traveling, but a stripe really adds style, and makes your whole outfit cohesive!
A beautiful winter airport outfit is a statement camel coat. You can wear this over anything- you’re favorite sweats if you’re going for comfort or a nice trouser for a business flight.
Business Chic
If you’re flying for business, these outfits are perfect for comfort and style. A chunky sweater with comfortable trousers is a great business chic look.
I’ve been living in my Abercrombie Trousers this fall, and they are soft enough to travel in.
Add a statement long cardigan for another chic business travel outfit.
Shop the look: Colorblocked Cardigan $258
Denim Jacket
A denim jacket is a great piece for a cute summer airport outfit because it’s not too warm, and you can wear it over a tank top in the heat! Plus you can tie this around your waist if it gets too warm.
White Sneakers
I almost always wear my Adidas Advantage sneakers while traveling. They are super comfortable and under $60 on Amazon!
Plus, you can wear them on your trip which saves room in your suitcase. And they practically go with any travel outfit.

Airport Outfit Accessories
Adding a pair of sunglasses adds a chic look to your travel outfit. Plus, you can say goodbye to eye makeup!
These are so handy when traveling because you can keep your important documents, credit cards, cash, and ID in a safe and easily accessible place.
Amazon has a great affordable belt bag that comes in multiple colors.
Airport Outfit Undergarments
Just because you can’t see your undergarments, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t think about them.
A comfortable bra is a must for any travel day. I always gravitate toward this unlined bralette that is so soft it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing any bra. And as someone with a larger chest is a huge plus.
And for a no-show panty line, comfortable underwear is a must. I’ve tried a few different styles, and this mesh thong set is my go-to! They stretch to your body without causing any unwanted tugging.
Airport Outfit Luggage
Now you don’t have to go out and buy all new luggage, but I believe that having a neutral luggage set will always look put together!
I prefer traveling with a carry-on rolling luggage to put in the airplane bin above my seat, and a small duffle or backpack that goes under the seat in front of me.
This backpack is made for travel and is perfect if you’re looking to just bring carry-on luggage and have a bag that can fit extra clothing inside. This travel backpack features a large compartment that fits extra clothing perfectly. Plus it’s lightweight and comes in neutral colors.
Another favorite carry-on bag that fits under the seat in front of you is this black Weekender bag on Amazon . I’ve brought this on all my travels this year and fits everything you’d need on hand on the plane, plus extra clothing.
The zippers on this bag just make sense, and there is a place for everything- including 2 exterior pockets water bottles, and an interior laptop sleeve.
And my go-to carry-on suitcase that is extremely lightweight and expandable. I’ve been traveling with this Travel Pro Maxlite suitcase for a while and it’s held up from all my trips! Plus it’s the preferred suitcase from flight attendants.

When embarking on exciting adventures around the globe, one thing should never hold you back: your clothing. Plus-size travelers deserve comfort, style, and confidence during their journeys, and that’s where the best plus-size travel clothing brands come into play.
These are the best plus-size clothing brands that offer travel-friendly gear in sizes up to 40.
For your next destination wedding or business trip, look no further than SuitShop , an inclusive brand that offers sizes 00 to 28 for women and 34 to 64 for men. The brand makes stylish suits and tuxedos that look sharp on all genders.
SuitShop allows you to get a perfect fit by selecting the size and tailoring of your suit jacket and suit pants separately.
Best of all, the suits come in eye-catching colors like burnt orange and light blue that add a little fun to dress clothes.
Good American
Good American specializes in travel-friendly denim that will fit all sizes: from 00-32. On the brand’s website, every piece of clothing is shown on three different size ranges of models, so you can see how it will look on your body type.
The Always Fits jeans line is impressively stretchy and is guaranteed to fit up to four sizes.
The Ultimate Packing List
Keep your travel wardrobe fresh with Nuuly , a clothing rental company. Nuuly partnered with Eloquii to offer a variety of options in sizes 14-32. Subscribe and you’ll get six styles sent to your door every month. Pack them and wear them and then send them back to get more options (no laundry required).
Fall in love with one of the items? You can opt to buy it and keep it instead of sending it back.
Universal Standard
Universal Standard offers an impressively wide range of sizes in all of their clothing styles, from 00-40. The brand has their own sizing chart that’s based on what the average American body type looks like, so check out their Find My Size page before buying.
There are plenty of travel-friendly items to choose from, from a polished (but comfortable) pointe pants line to cozy cashmere .
The 14 Best Dresses for Fall Travelers
As L.L. Bean says, “the outdoors is for every body.” The brand offers petite, regular, and plus size options in its clothing. L.L. Bean is a great place to shop for adventure gear, as hiking pants, jackets, and more are available in sizes 1X to 3X and 18W to 26W.

Your body is perfect just the way it is and there is nothing more important than dressing to make yourself feel as confident as possible. You deserve to love the hell out of yourself and your vacation.
As a plus-size woman and an avid traveler, I’m no stranger to the last minute packing panic – the overpacking, the panic buying, the ability to spend almost as much on the clothes as the trip itself, the worries, the fears and the ‘maybe I shouldn’t go’ moments – but at the end of it all, the trip is always worth it.
Pack for trips of one week or more without checking a bag.
- Thick comfortable straps
- Easy to organize
- Durable, waterproof fabric
- Backed by our Worldwide Warranty
Travel is for everyone and with growing movements to make travel more inclusive like #fatgirlstraveling and #plussizetraveltoo, there is no better time to shrug off your worries and take that trip you’ve always dreamt of.
So, off the back off my most recent 7-month trip around Africa, Asia and the United States, here are my top tips for finding your stress free travel wardrobe as a plus-sized woman.
Two Points, Before We Start:
1. Larger clothes = more material
There is no escaping the fact that larger clothes take up more room, and that means taking fewer items. ‘Multi-purpose’ is the name of the game here ladies.
2. It’s not impossible to buy plus size clothes all over the world, but it’s not always easy.
News Flash: Fat people exist in every country! But not every country has easily accessible plus size clothing stores, so it’s worth spending the time to properly plan what you pack so you don’t get caught short.
Get the Foundations Right
(if you only have time to read one section of this article, make it this one) .
The three following items are the holy trinity of plus-size travel packing , I promise you, they could make or break your trip.
The Unmentionables
Underwear , love it or loathe it, just don’t skip over thinking about it when you’re planning what to pack.
Having the wrong underwear that makes you feel uncomfortable, like bras that chafe in hot weather or knickers that don’t stay up when you move around, will totally distract you from living your best vacation life.
Hands up if you swell up in hot weather like me? Breathable and moister-wicking undies will be your best friend for comfort, keeping cool, and tp help to prevent skin irritations that occur in warm & wet environments.
Chub Rub
Traveling usually means moving your body more, and moving your body more can lead to chafing, ranging from the uncomfortable to the downright painful, especially in tropical climates that are hot and humid.
Luckily, there are a lot of precautions you can take to prevent chub rub from ruining your trip.
Applying anti-chafing creams, baby powder and even deodorant to potentially affected areas will help but for the dreaded thigh rub, I opt for wearing some thin cotton biker-style shorts under skirts and dresses. Find a colour that best matches your skin tone if you’re self-conscious about them showing (but don’t worry, my shorts have been the envy of my fellow every-size travelers all over the world!)
Shoes, Glorious Shoes
We’ve established that travel usually means more movement and more movement means more work for your feet. Take it from a fat girl who didn’t pack properly supporting shoes and spent months recovering from painful Plantar Fasciitis, shoes are important!
Hiking sandals are now my go-to travel shoe. They offer great support, are often water-friendly (for all that island hopping you’ll be doing) and will take you on just about any terrain. All this, as well as being lightweight and allowing your feet to breathe. There are even brands like Chaco and Teva that are mixing all this high-tech with style, so there’s no excuse to be walking around in flip-flops .
Before You Pack:
Buying plus size clothing is tricky at the best of times, add travel, new activities and unfamiliar climates into the mix and it can feel overwhelming. Take a little time to plan out what you need, what you already have that’ll do the job and decide if there are any pieces you need to pick up.
Here’s my fool-proof checklist:
Double and triple check the climate of the places you’re visiting, this is easier when it’s one or two places but bear in mind that the same country can have multiple climates. For example, when I visited Jordan last Spring, the capital, Amman, was a chilly 6C but just 2 hours away, at the Dead Sea, it was a steamy 30C!
Plan out all the activities you definitely want to do, as well as those you’d like to try out, so you can pack for them. This can be everything from a fancy dinner and sightseeing to a snorkelling trip or hiking! This will help you to realistically plan how many ‘specialist’ outfits you’ll need.
Length of Time
Plan out no more than one week of outfits! One of the BIGGEST mistakes travellers make is overpacking. In reality, you will wear everything a couple of times and if you’re going away for longer than a week or so, you’ll want to do laundry.
Check Out Local Customs
Sometimes you have to cover up your shoulders, knees and hair, or take off your shoes in order to be respectful of local religions and customs. Make sure you know ahead of time what to expect so there are no tricky moments.
A friend and I visited a beautiful old Mosque in Kuala Lumpur this year. I had researched and knew that I’d be required to cover up, my friend who was wearing shorts, was asked to wear a one-size-fits-all cover-up upon arrival but as I was dressed appropriately, I didn’t have to worry about fitting into it!
Plus Sized Travel Clothes Brands
It’s one thing to bite the bullet and promise yourself that on this vacation you’re going to hike to a waterfall, but it’s another thing entirely to make sure you have the right clothing. Here is a collection of my tried and tested plus-size inclusive clothing brands.
For Activewear
Fabletics is my go-to for cute & inclusive activewear, whether that’s for hiking, yoga or travel days (yes, I’m a yoga pants 24/7 kind of girl).
As of January 2020, their size range will go up to a US size 22-24 (4X) making it one of the most inclusive sportswear brands out there.
I’ve mentioned them before, but they’re so good they get a second shout out, Chaco and Teva are two brands you HAVE to check out for supportive vacation footwear. Both brands stock wider widths too.
For Swimwear
With the inclusion of lines by plus size style icons Gabi Fresh & Ashley Graham, as well as sizes ranging from US 4 – 32, SwimsuitsForAll is the place to find that fatkini to help you take your vacation by storm.
For Everything Else
ASOS Curve , a personal favourite of mine, goes up to a US size 26 (5X) and is a one-stop-shop for everything from panties to evening gowns (I’m not kidding). Other store options I can recommend include Boohoo , SheIn & Old Navy.
Plus Sized Travel Clothing: What to Pack
Lightweight, breathable, quick-drying and wrinkle-free materials.
These fabrics are your best friends, especially when shopping for plus size tropical vacation clothes!
Rayon & Polyester get a bad rap but in my experience are cool, durable and extremely suitcase friendly (read: make great plus size, wrinkle-free travel clothing, nobody likes ironing!)
But what about cotton, I hear you ask? While cotton is comfortable and breathable making it one of the best hot-weather materials, it creases like nobody’s business and can be weighed down by the moisture it absorbs, so if you love cotton, opt for a cotton-polyester blend for the best of both worlds.
Multi-Purpose Items
To help you save on space (remember, with larger clothes = fewer options) pack items that do double duty.
Sarongs are amazing multi-purpose space savers, great for everything from beach coverups & beach towels to an extra layer on a cool flight, a headscarf to keep the sun off your scalp and a way of covering your shoulders & knees at religious sights.
Day-to-night clothing is a must. Prioritize pieces that can be dressed up or down easily with a few accessories – a simple dress in the day paired with your newly purchased hiking sandals can turn into a party dress by night by adding a long necklace, some lipstick and your designated pair of ‘night-time’ sandals.
Make the Most of Your Airport Outfit
Deciding on your plus size airport outfit can be tricky, but here are my tips!
Comfort over everything! I usually opt for my leggings and an oversized tunic or sweatshirt. Dressing smartly will not get you a free upgrade, but might make you uncomfortable.
If you’re traveling to more than one destination, don’t wear your heaviest/bulkiest clothing – I know, I know, you think I’m crazy for saying that! But hear me out – that clothing has to fit in your bag at some point, right? I made the terrible mistake of flying from the UK in the winter wearing my jeans and sweatshirt and arriving in Egypt to 25C+ heat. I never wore my jeans again on the 7-month long trip and they became a huge burden because they just didn’t fit in my bag!
Pack for Comfort, Whatever That Means to You
I love dresses. I live in dresses, sleep in dresses, hell, I even hike in dresses. So when I listened to all the people telling me to take trousers on my latest and longest round-the-world-trip, I should’ve known it was a terrible idea. I ended up mailing my trousers home and searching high and low for shops that stocked my size so I could buy more dresses. Moral of the story? You know what clothes make you most comfortable, so pack those.
You’ll be stuck with those clothes for the rest of your trip so this is not the time to experiment!
Above All Else, Pack for Confidence!
Will a Swimdress make you feel 100% more confident on the beach?
Will having your favorite dress make you enjoy your trip even more?
Then girl, rock it.
Your body is perfect just the way it is and there is nothing more important than dressing to make yourself feel as confident as possible. You deserve to love the hell out of yourself and your vacation. Take the time to plan, research your destination and remember, if you’re having a blast, no one, not even you, will care what you’re wearing.

Plus Size Travel Clothing
Written by: Phebe Schwartz
One of my favorite brands for plus size travel clothing is Eileen Fisher . Her clothes are based on what Eileen Fisher calls “The System”: grab a top, add a bottom, throw on an outer layer, and voila, you have an outfit.
Everything is designed to be layered – perfect for travel!
Eileen Fisher clothes tend to be a bit pricy, but the quality is outstanding, as are the fabrics of organic cotton or linen, modal jersey, cashmere, merino wool, and silk.
Her designs can be found at large department stores such as Nordstroms , Macy’s , Lord & Taylor , and on the Eileen Fisher website as well. (If you shop online, their models may not be plus-size even though the sizing is available.)
Sizing: Eileen Fisher sizing tends to be a bit generous. Items can be in petite, misses, or plus. However, the misses XL usually fits size 16-18, or even 20 if it’s an oversized or boxy shape. If you’re in a store, try a variety of sizes. Her plus sizes are quite generously cut.
Helpful hint: I always check the “sale” section online, and will save favorites while watching to see when prices drop even further. I do the same at the department store sites. When an item is 50% off or more, I grab it.
Mandarin-Collar Button-Front Shirt
The long-sleeved shirt
A long-sleeved shirt is indispensable for travel. This can be worn alone, over a tank or tee, or under a sweater or blazer. It can also be worn as an additional layer under or over the right dress. My preference is white, because it looks so crisp with black.
Want to look your best when traveling but still be comfortable. Read my travel tips to Pack Light Stylishly !
Linen Cargo slacks
Basic trousers
Eileen Fisher has tailored slacks , harem pants, fitted or slouchy slacks , man-tailored trousers – I like her linen cargo slacks that are slightly cropped, and the lantern slacks which turn in just slightly at the ankle.
Use packing cubes to help you organize and even compress your belongings to maximize your space.
The linen knit skirt travels beautifully, but so does the straight viscose jersey. Both work well with just about every top.
Organic Linen V-Neck Tee
The linen knit tees are light and airy, perfect for hot weather.
For really hot weather, a tank top will keep you cool, especially in natural fibers. If you are self-conscious about your upper arms, look for a top with cap sleeves for a bit more coverage.
Embellished top
I adore the beaded tops, but suspect they’d be too heavy for traveling. The silk tops, however, are luxurious enough to dress up a pair of jeans, but are light as a feather.
Chambray shift dress
So many dresses to choose from! I like Eileen Fisher dresses that can be worn over her slacks, leggings, tights, or under any of the sweaters or jackets. Look for versatility as well as what is flattering for your shape. (The viscose jersey can be a bit heavy, so consider this when ordering online.)
Cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan
I love her boxy pullovers, but I also adore cashmere cardis that go with everything.
Hooded Weather-Resistant Jacket
Blazer or jacket
This little cotton knit jacket works with slacks, jeans, skirts, a dress. The vaguely military styling in absolutely on trend right now, but is so classic that it will still work five years from now.
I’d love to be able to fill my luggage with Eileen Fisher clothes, but my budget isn’t quite up to that. However, a few of her items will definitely add a more elegant and luxurious look to a wardrobe of basics; and if you buy on sale, you won’t break your budget.

Eileen Fisher can feel a bit staid. Do you have suggestions for brighter, hipper, but still practical and comfortable staples?

I haven’t heard of Eileen Fisher brand before, but I don’t go shopping at stores that often. Will check out the website. Thanks for the recommendation!
Hi Phebe Love your tips. I look best in vests, usually size 16 – 20 depending on the cut. Where should I look for good ones for home and to also travel on tours with.
Hi Sherry, thanks for your question! We’ll share your question here so the author of the article can reply 🙂
Thanks, Alex, for giving us plus sized girls another option for good quality travel clothing. As I search for great capsule pieces I’ll definitely look here.
Thanks Michala!
I have an Eileen Fisher black (now faded) snap-front lightweight jacket (with pockets) that went with me on a three week trip to Europe & I wear it at home ALL the time, too. The weight works even in heat like Rome in early Sept with just a cami or tank top underneath. I stuffed it in my day bag & it was crush resistant- no ironing! The weight works well over a long sleeved T-shirt, too. I got it at Goodwill, my absolute favorite place to look first for travel clothing. I often find new items with the price tags still on. If I don’t find what I need at Goodwill, Red, White & Blue or other thrift shop), THEN I’ll go to REI or look at the travel-specific brands.
Great brands Josephine! Thanks for sharing your great tips! Happy travels!
I just found some 2X-sized merino wool base and middle layers on the Cabela’s website. They partner with Icebreaker to create larger items (and cheaper too!) than on Icebreaker’s own website. I ordered a long-sleeved base layer and may order a few more if the fit is right. I would have never thought about Cabela’s for travel wear!!
That’s a great tip! I’ll start looking at Cabela’s clothing from now on. Thanks Rhonda 🙂
I guess it depends on what you intend to do when travelling, but I DID pack a skirt on my 2nd long trip overseas, only to never wear it.I’m a pants girl, through and through,so the 3rd long trip had only pants. The rest of the list I agree with.(My trips have been 7-12 weeks and in many countries throughout each trip.)
It’s good that you know what works for you. I’m not a skirt girl either. I’ve tried to like them but I just don’t and prefer pants or shorts instead. Always go with what works for you 🙂
Thanks for the love, Alex! Great travel picks.
Thank you! Your travel-friendly clothes are fab!

12 Travel Pants for an Effortlessly Comfortable Long Flight
Travel with first-class comfort, even if you’re sitting in basic economy
After a 12-hour red-eye, you don’t want your outfit to be the reason you arrive exhausted. A high-quality, well-fitting pair of travel pants can make the difference between a smooth flight or a bumpy ride. As someone who flies often for work, I can tell you: Wearing pants that didn’t stretch or that were too tight at the waist has been my downfall too many times, leaving me fidgety and uncomfortable in my teeny seat. Now, I’ve got the routine down—the best travel pants must be soft, forgiving, and able to keep me warm.
You might be in a coordinated knit ensemble or sweats you can style with a stylish travel jacket up top, but the pants you wear in transit should take at least a bit of the pain out of the experience. For upcoming trips, whether you’re jetting somewhere tropical or simply flying home, here are 12 pairs of pants for travel that deliver first-class comfort, even if you’re sitting in economy.
High Sport Kick Pants
These buzzy pants are a favorite among editors and fashion insiders because they look dressy but are surprisingly comfortable when you have them on. That’s a win-win in my book.
Sizes: XS–XL
Materials: 68% cotton, 32% Lycra
Colors: Blue, navy
Everlane Linen Pants
When arriving at a tropical destination, the worst feeling is the humidity and heat hitting you while you’re still dressed for the chilly plane. These linen pants bridge the gap nicely.
Sizes: XXS–XXL
Materials: 100% European flax linen
Colors: Bone, sage, black
What reviewers say: “The drape of the fabric is fabulous - not to light, not to thick. The cut and tailoring fit perfectly for my curves. The color is a great basic. Well done Everlane!”
Sporty & Rich Syracuse Sweatpants
These days, I’d guess that 50 percent of passengers on my flights are wearing some form of cotton sweats. Sporty & Rich’s take are my favorite, since they’re relaxed, but not schlubby.
Materials: 100% cotton
Colors: Brown
Amo Sandra Baggy Jeans
I have friends who hate soft pants and will fly only in jeans. If that’s the case for you, at least opt for a style that’s roomy and relaxed.
Sizes: 23–32
Colors: Blue
Lululemon Align Super-High-Rise Tights
For long-haul flights, I often choose a pair of super-soft leggings. The waistband doesn’t cut in, and seams don’t rub when I’m stuck sitting for hours on end.
Sizes: 0–20
Materials: 81% nylon, 19% Lycra
Colors: Black, navy, coal, olive, espresso
What reviewers say: “I absolutely love how comfortable these are. They are so high waisted that they touch my ribcage, but I love it! I am only 5'5" so it makes sense.”
Tory Sport Cashmere Joggers
Planes can run chilly, and as someone who is constantly freezing, I try to prepare by wearing warm knits from head to toe. These cashmere pants would protect me from the pumping AC.
Sizes: XXS–XL
Materials: 100% cashmere
Colors: Gray, blue, natural
What reviewers say: “Fair to good quality cashmere (thickness). True to size. Very warm & soft.”
Asceno Aurelia Pants
When a red-eye is the only option, why not wear pants that basically feel like you’re wearing pajamas? You’ll be as comfy as you can be—eye mask on, plane blanket tucked in.
Materials: 100% silk
Argent Jones Trousers
If you travel frequently for work, you might need to head straight to a meeting from the airport. These pants are comfy, but will help you pull off a professional vibe when you land.
Sizes: 0–14
Materials: 98% wool, 2% elastane
Colors: Blue, fuchsia, black
What reviewers say: “A direct quote from my husband, ‘Makes you look like you're all legs.’ I love, love, love this suit and am having a hard time not buying it in all the colors.”
Bode Quincy Stripe Joggers
Bode’s soft, swingy pants are a fashionable way to feel comfy on a flight. There’s also a matching polo top if you want to complete the look.
Materials: 65% linen, 35% viscose
Colors: Red, white
Nike ACG Smith Summit Cargo Pants
For the traveler who prefers to fly light, these cargo pants will hold your phone, Kindle, passport, and gaggle of headphones, no bag necessary.
Sizes: XS–XXL
Materials: 96% nylon, 4% spandex
Colors: Black, navy
The Frankie Shop Bonnie Croc-Effect Faux-Leather Straight-Leg Pants
L.A. to Vegas is only an hour-long flight. If you’re planning a quick trip for a friend’s birthday, these pants are a pair you can wear straight from the plane to a fancy dinner.
Materials: 50% polyurethane, 25% polyester, 25% cotton
Vince High-Rise Satin Pants
Stretchy, loose, and lightweight, these pants will keep you comfy even if you’re squeezed into an economy middle seat.
Materials: 73% recycled polyester, 27% polyester
Colors: Beige

I Found the Perfect Airplane Outfit for Summer — and It’s on Sale for $30 at Amazon Right Now
It's so comfy, shoppers say it's like "wearing pajamas" when you "have to spend hours on a plane."

As much as I enjoy putting an outfit together at home, clothes are the last thing on my mind when I’m traveling. I need style to come quickly and easily so I can throw on my dinner attire and get back out there. To simply put it: the less time I spend getting dressed, the better — that’s why I keep a jumpsuit or two in my suitcase at all times. And, I have my eye on the Anrabess Sleeveless Jumpsuit , which is just $30 at Amazon right now.
Call me insufferably millennial, but I’m a sucker for a one-and-done outfit. I’ll wear a jumpsuit with sneakers anywhere, whether on a plane or running around a city, and then I’ll swap out some accessories and carry on with the rest of the night. In addition to checking off this essential versatility box, the Anrabess Sleeveless Jumpsuit fits right in with my collection with its comfy design and thoughtful features — which I'll get into later.
Anrabess Sleeveless Jumpsuit
At first glance, the Anrabess jumpsuit looks casual and cozy, but it has serious dress-up potential. It features a standard round neckline and padded sleeves for structure, a shape-defining elastic drawstring waist, and cuffed ankles. A touch of spandex makes the material ideally stretchy — meaning that it has none of the tightness or tugging that makes a one-piece wildly uncomfortable — and one shopper said it's so soft that it feels like "I'm wearing pajamas while in the air, which is a huge bonus for being stuck in an airplane seat for four-plus hours."
The fabric also features a lightweight blend of polyester and rayon to make it "super comfortable" for summer travel, according to a second reviewer — especially "when you have to spend hours on a plane," as another customer pointed out . For convenience, there are two side pockets, thoughtful details that Amazon shoppers were over the moon about .
But, it's the effortless packability that makes it a travel must-have. According to one traveler , they just need to "pack one per day — or six to seven if I am traveling for a week or more — and wash as necessary." They also noted that the jumpsuits "don’t wrinkle and I don’t have to think too much about what I’m going to wear." It doesn’t wrinkle, you say? Cool, I’m sold.
Since Anrabess is the brand responsible for some of Amazon's best-selling matching sets , it's not surprising that it would be behind this genius jumpsuit.
