Queen Mary 2 deck plans
Deck layouts, review of facilities, activities, amenities.
Queen Mary 2 deck plan review at CruiseMapper provides newest cruise deck plans (2024-2025-2026 valid floor layouts of the vessel) extracted from the officially issued by Cunard deckplan pdf (printable version).
Each of the Queen Mary 2 cruise ship deck plans are conveniently combined with a legend (showing cabin codes) and detailed review of all the deck's venues and passenger-accessible indoor and outdoor areas. A separate link provides an extensive information on Queen Mary 2 staterooms (cabins and suites), including photos, cabin plans and amenities by room type and category.
RMS Queen Mary 2 (2004-built, last refurbished in 2023 November) is the oldest and most famous of all Cunard ships - followed by the sisterships MS Queen Victoria (2007) and MS Queen Elizabeth (2010) and the fleet's newest liner Queen Anne (2024). Cunard QM2 is a Transatlantic Express liner with regularly scheduled North Atlantic Ocean crossings between the homeports Southampton (England UK) and New York City (NYC's Brooklyn Terminal).
RMS Queen Mary 2 cruise ship deck plan shows a total of 1363 staterooms for 2726 passengers (max capacity is 3271), served by 1250 crew-staff. The boat has 18 decks (13 passenger-accessible, 11 with cabins), 6 restaurants and food bars, 14 lounges and bars, 8 shops-boutiques, 4 swimming pools (1 hydrotherapy, 1 covered with a retractable roof), 8 outdoor Jacuzzis (whirlpool hot tubs), 20 elevators, laundrettes (passenger-use laundry rooms).
QM2 deck plan changes 2016 refurbishment review
The ship's last drydock was in 2021 (August-September) at Damen Shiprepair Brest ( Brest France ), during which were conducted mainly general maintenance works, as well as hull cleaning and painting.
During the Cunard Line’s 175th anniversary celebrations was announced that the QM2 ship enters a 25-day long drydock in 2016 (May 27 to June 21). During the vessel’s 25-day stay at Blohm+Voss Shipyard ( Hamburg, Germany ) the following deck plan changes took place:
The Winter Garden lounge on Lido Deck 7 was redesigned and transformed into the new Carinthia Lounge. The lounge is named after the Cunard Line’s two Carinthia ships – RMS Carinthia (1925-1940) and RMS Carinthia (1956-2006).
On deck 8, the ship’s signature restaurant Todd English was replaced by “The Verandah Restaurant”. The new restaurant (available on board both QM2 fleet mates) offers gourmet French regional cuisine (with seasonal influences) plus a fine French wines list. The new specialty dinner is at a surcharge and opens for lunch and dinner only. The Verandah Grill has its own bar selling pre/post meal drinks.
172 suites (all Princess and Queen Grill suite accommodations on the QM2 ship’s upper decks) were comprehensively redesigned to maximize space. Their decoration was also changed, reflecting the Cunard Line’s history. The changes include new luxury textures in soothing colors and new carpeting (with a rugs-design inspired by the old RMS Queen Mary liner).
Extensive development work involving Cunard guests and the onboard Queen Mary 2 galley teams has been undertaken over the last eighteen months in the redesign of this very popular area of the flagship. Enhancements are planned to both the service and culinary offerings in Kings Court with the refreshed venue featuring new menus, the convenience of pre-set tables and waiter-served drinks.
The King’s Court (self-service buffet restaurant on lido deck 7 midship) was majorly redesigned. Both central-location elevators were removed to create a vast open space. This way, the central buffet stations area became more open, allowing an easygoing flow. The restaurant’s seating was also reconfigured for a less crowded experience, adding the convenience of pre-set tables and waiter-served drinks. New menus were introduced (including a smokehouse alternative), plus pre-set tables and waiter-served beverages. Among the new menu choices are hot/cold meals, light snacks, afternoon treats, alternative cuisine specialties (including Asian, Indian, Italian, Tex Mex. At the center stage, ship's chefs entertain guests through cooking demonstrations in the evenings.
(King’s Court) The Chef’s Galley area (that offers for lunch pasta and pizzas) on select evenings additionally offers Chef’s Table menu. This is a fine wine pairing and food tasting VIP dining event hosted by the ship’s Executive Chef. The buffet’s new design features modern chandeliers, new artworks (circus-themed), areas with timber flooring, lots of mirrors.
Both Grill restaurants (on Lido deck 7) were redesigned and renovated with a new color scheme, furnishings, and flooring. After the 2016 refurbishment, they both have new menus, more 2-seat tables and were reconfigured for more privacy (by increasing the space between tables).
15 new single-occupancy staterooms were added on deck 2 portside (taking space from the Casino) and deck 3L portside (in the place of the Images Photo Gallery).
The Britannia Restaurant (dining room on deck 2) was redesigned too. It was renovated with new decor and upgraded with new dining menus and the Cunard’s “White Star Service” standards.
Updated menus were introduced also at Golden Lion (pub) and Veuve Clicquot (wine / Champagne bar).
30 new balcony staterooms category “Britannia Club Balcony” plus 5 Inside staterooms were added on deck 13 (in the deck’s forward part)
10 new kennels (for cats and dogs) were added to the existing 12 kennels on deck 12. This is the best amenity for passengers traveling with pets. Cruise ship kennels were the Cunard’s signature feature on the line’s former flagship RMS Queen Elizabeth 2. On the ocean liner RMS Queen Mary, they were first introduced at the Duke of Windsor’s suggestion.
On QM2, the kennel area was expanded, an owners lounge and a new pet playground were added. The extended outdoor area is intended for dog walking and features a lamppost (from Liverpool ) and a fire hydrant (from NYC ). In 2016, Cunard partnered with Barbour (British sportswear brand) to offer smart pet accessories on the QM2 ship (including jackets, collars, leashes).
On deck 2, two of the Grand Lobby’s elevators were removed. This made more space for the lobby lounge, which was also redesigned and re-furnished with high-back chairs and a new Baby Grand piano.
Around 55,200 m2 (594,200 ft2) of new carpets have been laid throughout the ship. All new cruise cabins increased the QM2’s capacity from 2620 passengers (max 3151) to 2726 passengers (max 3271).
2016 refurbishment's fun facts: man-hours (over 1 million), new carpets (55,200 m2 / 594,200 ft2), new framed pictures number (4,000), hull paint quantity (over 15,000 litres / 3,962 US gallons). QM2's 25-day drydock refurbishment cost Cunard around GBP 90 million.

Inside the Cunard Line's Queen Mary 2
Cunard Line launched the Queen Mary 2 ocean liner in 2004, and the arrival of the new vessel was the most anticipated passenger ship of the early 21st century. Why were people so curious about the new ship? First, the Queen Mary 2 was the world's largest passenger ship when she was launched and was specifically designed to sail transatlantic and round-the-world voyages. As an ocean liner with a 32-foot draft, she is sturdy and can navigate rough seas smoother than traditional cruise ships . Second, the Queen Mary 2 was Cunard's first newbuild since 1969, so fans of one of the world's oldest and most respected passenger lines were excited about this long-awaited new flagship.
In June 2016, the Cunard Line completed a three-week, $132 million remastering of the Queen Mary 2. Highlights of the renovation include:
- Redesign and refurbishment of the Queens Grill and Princess Grill suites and restaurants and the Britannia staterooms
- Addition of 30 Britannia Club staterooms, 15 Britannia single staterooms, and five Britannia inside staterooms
- Redesign of many public spaces and restaurants, including the transformation of the former Winter Garden into the Carinthia Lounge, the introduction of The Verandah as the ship’s new specialty restaurant, and the complete refresh and restructuring of the Kings Court, the ship’s buffet area
- Twelve additional pet kennels and other enhancements
- A complete repaint of the ship exterior and significant technical enhancements and structural changes to the Cunard flagship.
Common Areas
The refined, luxurious common areas on the Queen Mary 2 complement the elegant atmosphere one would expect on a classic ocean liner. The Queen Mary 2 feels very British, but has European and American touches. The ship is best-known for its transatlantic voyages, and with many days at sea, it's not surprising that the Queen Mary 2 offers many onboard activities and beautiful spots perfect for relaxing.
Some of the traditional Cunard hallmarks are found throughout the Queen Mary 2 -- sweeping staircases, soaring public rooms, a grand ballroom, and a 360° promenade deck that is about 0.4 mile/lap. The ship has 14 decks of sports facilities, shops, bars, lounges, 5 pools (one with a retractable roof) and 10 restaurants.
Nighttime on the Queen Mary 2 is elegant, and the ship plays host to formal gatherings in the evenings. After dinner entertainment includes dancing in the large ballroom, pianist in the Commodore Club, a casino, jazz in the Chart Room, and a wide variety of memorable shows in the Royal Court Theatre.
Some of the other special common areas on the Queen Mary 2 include:
Canyon Ranch SpaClub®
It is not surprising that one of the most luxurious ocean vessels ever built features a Canyon Ranch spa . This highly acclaimed health resort company has brought its luxury spa experience to sea with life-changing programs from stress-relief classes to workshops on diet, healthy aging, and disease prevention.
The Queen Mary 2 Canyon Ranch SpaClub® is a two deck, 20,000 square foot spa facility which includes 24 treatment rooms, a thalassotherapy pool with deluge waterfall, a whirlpool, thermal suite with both herbal and Finnish saunas, reflexology basins, and an aromatic steam room.
Planetarium - Illuminations
Guests can take a virtual ride into outer space, view the stars and other visual spectacles or take a course on celestial navigation in Illuminations, in the Queen Mary 2 full-scale planetarium.
Cunard ConneXions and Insight Program
Cunard offers an educational and entertainment program of activities every day, The Queen Mary 2 cultural enrichment program includes 7 classrooms and a 500-seat auditorium where you can attend workshops, seminars, and lectures on such diverse topics as fashion, foreign languages, watercolor techniques, or period furniture.
History & Art
Renowned international artists were commissioned to produce over 300 original works of art valued at over $5 million. For history buffs, the museum-quality Maritime Quest exhibit is a fascinating tour that takes you back to the golden era of transatlantic cruising.
Play Zone/The Zone
The Queen Mary 2 was designed to accommodate all ages . For guests who wish to take their children or grandchildren along, The Play Zone is like a well-run camp for children 2-7 years old. (Ages 6 months to 2 years can attend with a parent.) A separate facility, The Zone, provides hours of supervised entertainment and activities for children 8-12 years old.
Suites and Staterooms
Exclusive lounges and dining for guests staying in cruise ship suites have become popular over the past decade. Like commercial airliners, all classic ocean liners had different classes, and the Queen Mary 2 is no different. The ship has four different categories of accommodations: Queens Grill, Princess Grill, Britannia Club, and Britannia. At least a dozen different types of cabins and suites make up the four categories. Guests are assigned to different dining venues based on their level of accommodation.
During the Queen Mary 2 remastering, Cunard added 30 Britannia Club staterooms, 15 Britannia single staterooms, and five Britannia inside staterooms. These new accommodations increased the total number of guests on the ship to 2691.
Cunard added new dining venues and enhanced the old ones during the ship's 2016 remastering. One of the new additions is The Verandah Restaurant, which is similar to the famous Grill on the original Queen Mary. A second new dining venue is the Smokehouse Grill, a new alternative dining concept. The Kings Court Buffet was completely transformed. Cunard also has refurbished and added new menus to the Queens and Princess Grill.
In addition, Cunard changed the menus in the existing Britannia Restaurant and Golden Lion pub, along with Cunard’s Afternoon Tea selection served in the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Bar.
Carinthia Lounge
The Carinthia Lounge serves an alternative breakfast and lunch along premium coffees. This lounge occupies the former Wintergarden space. This transformation is one of the many on the Queen Mary 2. Those who have sailed on her before will love the changes, and those who have not will appreciate the elegance and classic lines of this traditional ocean liner.

Queen Mary 2
British 21st-century transatlantic ocean liner / from wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, dear wikiwand ai, let's keep it short by simply answering these key questions:.
Can you list the top facts and stats about Queen Mary 2?
Summarize this article for a 10 year old
RMS Queen Mary 2 ( QM2 ) is a British transatlantic ocean liner . She has served as the flagship of Cunard Line since succeeding Queen Elizabeth 2 in 2004. [9] [10] The ship was officially named Queen Mary 2 by Queen Elizabeth II in 2004 after the first RMS Queen Mary of 1936. With the retirement of Queen Elizabeth 2 in 2008, Queen Mary 2 is the only ocean liner in service in the world. It has a regular service between Southampton , England, and New York City , United States, and an annual world cruise. [11] [12]
She was designed by a team of British naval architects led by Stephen Payne , and was constructed in France by Chantiers de l'Atlantique . At the time of her construction, Queen Mary 2 was the longest , at 1,131.99 ft (345.03 m) , and largest , with a gross tonnage of 148,528 GT , passenger ship ever built. She no longer holds these records after the construction of Royal Caribbean International 's 154,407 GT Freedom of the Seas (a cruise ship ) in April 2006, but remains the largest ocean liner ever built.
Queen Mary 2 was intended for regular scheduled crossings of the Atlantic Ocean; the final construction cost was approximately $300,000 per berth. The cost was increased by the high quality of materials; having been designed as an ocean liner, 40% more steel was required than for a standard cruise ship. [13] Queen Mary 2 has a maximum speed of just over 30 knots (56 km/h; 35 mph) and a cruising speed of 26 knots (48 km/h; 30 mph) , which is faster than a contemporary cruise ship. Instead of the common diesel-electric configuration, Queen Mary 2 uses integrated electric propulsion to achieve her top speed. Diesel engines, augmented by gas turbines , are used to generate electricity for electric motors for propulsion and for on-board use.
Queen Mary 2 ' s facilities include fifteen restaurants and bars, five swimming pools, a casino, a ballroom, a theatre, and the first planetarium at sea.
Queen Mary vs The Queen Mary 2 – Size, Power, and Speed Comparison
When the Queen Mary was built in 1934 she was one of the most technologically advanced ships of her day. The Queen Mary 2 was built later in 2003 and she is the world’s last ocean liner.
I recently disembarked a cruise onboard the Queen Mary 2 and have also stayed on board the Queen Mary which is currently a floating hotel located in California.
Both ships set sail almost 69 years apart so there are some considerable differences between the two.
How did the Queen Mary Compare to the Queen Mary 2?
The Queen Mary 2 is 15% longer than the original Queen Mary and 14% wider. Both ships produce the same horsepower and can travel at the same maximum speed of 30 knots. The Queen Mary 2 has an additional passenger deck compared to the original Queen Mary. Despite the time difference between the two the Queen Mary 2 isn’t any faster than the original Queen Mary was. The journey onboard is no doubt calmer, but the maximum speed remains the same.
Queen Mary 2 vs Queen Mary – Length Comparison
The Queen Mary 2 is 15% longer than the original Queen Mary.
This is based on the length of the cruise ship as parallel to the waterline.
Queen Mary 2 vs Queen Mary – Width (Beam) Comparison
The Queen Mary 2 is 14% wider than the original Queen Mary.
The beam of a cruise ship is the width of the cruise ship at the widest point. It’s usually measured where the hull meets the waterline.
Queen Mary 2 vs Queen Mary – Height and Deck Comparison
The Queen Mary 2 is 30% taller than the original Queen Mary but she includes an additional passenger deck. The largest cruise ship currently in operation is 72 meters (238 feet) high.
Building tall cruise ships limit the destinations which a cruise ship can travel to. Some large modern cruise ships are unable to sail to some ports due to bridges.
Queen Mary 2 vs Queen Mary – Gross Tonnage Comparison
The Queen Mary 2 has almost double the gross tonnage of the original Queen Mary.
Queen Mary vs Queen Mary 2 – Horsepower and Speed Comparison
A ship’s horsepower is the amount of power provided by the engines, one horsepower is equivalent to 746 Watts.
The Queen Mary had four turbines in two engine rooms.
The Queen Mary 2 has four diesel engines and two gas turbines.
In reality, the Queen Mary 2 sails at a little over 26 knots (30 MPH).
Modern cruise ships still usually have a maximum speed of between 25-30 knots.
Both Ships Had/Have 3 Main Anchors
The Queen Mary had 3 anchors which could reach 1980ft in total.
The Queen Mary 2 also has 3 anchors.

Queen Mary vs Queen Mary 2 – Ship Ownership
The Queen Mary was built for the Cunard-White Star Line and the Queen Mary 2 was built for Cunard, founded as we know it in 1949.
Cunard owned 62% of the company and White Star Line 38%. Cunard bought out White Star Line in 1949 creating the Cunard brand that we know and love today.
Is The Queen Mary 2 The Sister Ship to The Original Queen Mary?
The Queen Mary 2 is not the sister ship to the Original Queen Mary. She was built 69 years after the original Queen Mary was launched. Queen Mary 2 could be described as a much much younger relative, possibly a child of the Queen Mary.

Cunard Officially Welcomes Queen Anne with Ceremony at Fincantieri Shipyard
- April 19, 2024
The Queen Anne has officially joined Cunard’s fleet during a handover ceremony at the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard in Venice, according to a press release.
The event was attended by Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, and Italian Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani.
Also present were Katie McAlister, president of Cunard; Paul Ludlow, president of Carnival UK; Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and managing director of Fincantieri; Luigi Matarazzo, general manager of the Fincantieri Merchant Ships Division; and Marco Lunardi, director of Fincantieri Shipyard.
McAlister said: “We are so excited to welcome Queen Anne to our fleet as she completes a remarkable quartet alongside Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Victoria – marking the first time since 1999 that Cunard will have four ships in simultaneous service. We are now fully focused on readying her to welcome guests for her maiden voyage on May 3 before she embarks on an historic British Isles Festival Voyage, including a momentous Naming Ceremony in Cunard’s spiritual home of Liverpool on June 3.”
The 3,000-passenger ship will now set sail for Southampton ahead of its seven-night maiden voyage to Lisbon on May 3.
Folgiero added: “We are very pleased and eager to deliver Queen Anne to Cunard, a pioneering figure in luxury sea travel, renowned for setting new standards in oceanic voyages for over 180 years. This beautiful and iconic ship testifies the longstanding partnership between our two companies, underscoring our shared commitment to excellence and tradition in the maritime industry. Queen Anne, as Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth, the other two ships we built for Cunard, proudly bear Fincantieri’s signature, embodying our enduring expertise, reliability, and craftsmanship in shipbuilding.
“Constructing a liner for such a distinguished shipowner not only reconnects us to our origins but propels us towards the future with a determination to blend tradition and innovation. Fincantieri thus confirms its leadership in the cruise shipbuilding sector, a fundamental pillar of the company’s business project, as both the Group’s Business Plan and the vitality of the post-pandemic cruise sector clearly show.”
