Wonderful Wine Wander

Did the Belfast Wine Wander with Maria in February 2023 - was really an interesting, fun and great value experience. Tasted some lovely different wines in some unexpected locations with gorgeous food thrown in. Maria was great craic and a fab tour guide. Many thanks - we will definitely be back!!

It's a wonderful way to spend a few hours in the city!! Well done you for being one of the first to do it. We love this tour as it's really very different to what people probably expect, that's half the fun! See you soon! Caroline

Brilliant morning tour in Belfast. Maeve was superb guide. Visited places didn't know existed. A must do.

A must do! That'll do us :) Delighted! Meave is too, thank you, Caroline

Excellent afternoon spent with our tour guide Paul who took us to some familiar and unfamiliar places in Belfast. Amazing cocktails at each venue! Paul's knowledge of both cocktails fused with the history and culture of Belfast made it an afternoon well spent! Highly recommended for both visitors and locals! Thank you Paul. Looking forward to booking with them again!

What a headline!!! Paul is seriously talented and we are so pleased you enjoyed. We have sent him your review and he is chuffed :) People always promise to leave a review but think they forget once the spirit has worn off lol Seriously though, means a lot and really appreciate the time and effort.. See you soon! Caroline

Wine wander was great fun. A few unexpected venues will certainly open you mind to Belfast wine culture and movement. Great food from a few locations, broccoli in a sandwich, who knew! and fun information on wine, Marialynna (spelling) thank you so much, you made the day, natural wines and vegan wines, sheep’s stomachs and more. We had a fabulous day following you and trying not to loose you. Definitely going to try orange wine next time xx

Hurrrah!!! You were one of the first to do this tour and to read a review like this for such a new tour and tour guide means so much to us, honestly, just the best! Thank you very much and we will hopefully see you again soon :) Caroline

We booked the wine tasting tour and it was amazing! The guide Maria was fun knowledgeable and made the whole experience very relaxed. As a local it brought me to places that I would not expect to drink good wine and will be going back! I cannot recommend this tour more highly

Wine tasting!!! I wondered how you were tasting winter but I get it!!! You were one of the first to do this tour so it means masses that you enjoyed it so much :) Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, and Maria is so new too so she is over the moon!! See you soon, Caroline

We were part of today's taste and tour group with Maeve as our guide. This exceeded our expectations in its fun and generosity.

Brilliant to read!! Meave is really so wonderful at all she does, delighted you enjoyed and appreciate the review so much :) Caroline

Best Walla Walla Wineries, Wine Tours & Tastings 2024

Best Walla Walla Wineries, Wine Tours & Wine Tastings

Going wine tasting in Walla Walla? Here’s how to make the most of your visit.

In a quiet corner of southeastern Washington State , the compact city of Walla Walla has been a darling among wine lovers for decades. The wine industry is a major driver of tourism in the area—the city is home to around 120 wineries along with a wide array of hotels and restaurants that cater to Winetravelers. The industry is so important here, in fact, that the local community college even offers associate degrees in enology and viticulture.

Walla Walla sits at the heart of the Walla Walla Valley AVA, home to nearly 3,000 acres of vineyards—some of which are in neighboring Oregon . The region is particularly known for its Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah , though Merlot , Malbec , and Cabernet Franc are also well represented in the region.

While red rules supreme in this AVA, you’ll also find a handful of producers bringing out Chardonnay , Viognier , and Riesling .

How to Get to Walla Walla and How to Get Around

If you don’t live in the Pacific Northwest , you’ll need to fly to one of the area’s airports and rent a car . Walla Walla has its own tiny regional airport (Airport Code: ALW) , with regular connections to Seattle on Alaska Airlines.

The closest international airport is in Spokane, just under a 3-hour drive away. Alternatively, you can fly to Portland, Oregon (a 4-hour drive from Walla Walla) or Seattle (4.5 hours away). While you can experience much of Walla Walla on foot, and there are enough tasting rooms downtown alone to keep you busy, you’ll need a vehicle to really get a feel for the region and its vineyards.

If you don’t have a designated driver in your group, you’re best off joining a wine tour or hiring a driver for the day. Roads2 Travel offers private and completely customizable transportation . We recommend selecting some of the wineries below and booking the route with them for a day of your choosing.

Best Wineries to Visit in Walla Walla

Downtown alone has around 40 wineries & tasting rooms to choose from, most of which are on Main Street and on surrounding roads. Many of the city’s historic buildings have been revamped and now house wineries—popular options include Seven Hills Winery , one of the oldest in town, which is housed in a historic wood mill, and Elephant Seven , where visitors can taste Rhone varietals in a converted feed stable from 1905.

The Walla Walla Airport District is another great spot for winery hopping, with over two dozen wineries, cideries, distilleries, and breweries spread across a selection of World War II-era buildings in the northern part of town. Must-visits include Dunham Cellars , which occupies a refurbished airplane hangar, and Northstar Winery , where you can create your own unique wine by signing up for a blending experience . You’ll also find an ever-changing selection of fledgling wineries in the area that are participants in the Port of Walla Walla’s Winery Incubator Program.

There are plenty of options in the surrounding countryside, from Walla Walla Vinters in the eastern reaches of town to the Rotie Rocks Estate , just over the border in Oregon. You can even sample student-produced wine at College Cellars on the Walla Walla Community College campus.

If you prefer your wines bubbly, head straight to Yellowhawk Sparkling House , where you’ll find sparkling Sémillon , Malbec , and Chardonnay —they even do a bubbly red blend.

Don’t leave town without paying a visit to Caprio Cellars , one of only a few wineries in Walla Walla with its own estate vineyards.

Winetraveler Tip: The tastings at Caprio are always free, although you’ll probably end up wanting to bring some of their fantastic Bordeaux blends home with you.

While you’re in the neighborhood, stop by Pepper Bridge Winery , which features its own gravity-flow facility that uses the earth’s natural force to move grape juice and pulp to tanks and then on to the barrels, without the need for pumps. Pepper Bridge supplies grapes to Amavi Cellars nearby–if you want to rub shoulders with local winemakers, visit Amavi in the early evening, when they offer a happy hour with pizza, beer, and—of course—wine.

Where to Dine

Situated in Walla Walla’s historic Pastime Café building, Passatempo Taverna offers an Italian-inspired dinner menu of antipasti and pasta along with pizza and steaks, with most of the ingredients sourced from local farms. The wine menu leans Italian, with a few Washington options for good measure, though this downtown spot is best known for its innovative cocktails.

Owned by Tom Maccarone, who grew up in Walla Walla, T.Macs has become a bit of an institution since it opened up its doors in 2005. Stop by for lunch or dinner to try one of the beautifully presented (and tasty) dishes on offer—and make sure to save room to try some of their celebrated desserts.

Hotels in Walla Walla

In the heart of the city center, the Marcus Whitman Hotel & Conference Center has been a Walla Walla landmark since it first opened back in 1928 and offers classic rooms within easy walking distance of restaurants and wineries. A few blocks away, The FINCH is a contemporary alternative, featuring midcentury-revival décor in a revamped old motel.

If you want to be in the heart of wine country, Cameo Heights Mansion in the nearby community of Touchet is a fantastic option, with classic, individually decorated suites with views out over the surrounding vineyards.

Beyond the Wine: More Things to Do in Walla Walla

While it’s hard to argue that wine is Walla Walla’s biggest draw, there’s plenty to do in and around town for when you need a break from drinking.

If you’d like to learn about local history, stop by the Fort Walla Walla Museum , which features exhibits on everything from agriculture to Victorian-era fashion.

The Whitman Mission National Historic Site is also worth a visit–the on-site museum features displays and artifacts pertaining to the Indigenous Cayuse people of the area and missionary settlers who came to the region on the Oregon Trail.

While there are a few easy trails at the Whiteman Mission, travelers wanting to tackle a more strenuous hike will find no shortage of options in the nearby Umatilla National Forest .

Planning on wine tasting in California’s wine country? Check out this sommelier’s list of the best guided winery tours in Napa and Sonoma.

If you’re looking for the best guided winery tours in Napa Valley and Sonoma, look no further. I’ve tried them all and these are my absolute favorites. The guides are knowledgeable and passionate about wine, and they will take you on a journey through some of the most famous wineries in the world. You’ll learn about the history of winemaking, taste delicious wines, and see stunning landscapes. If you’re planning a vacation to Sonoma or Napa Valley , be sure to add one of these tours to your itinerary!

What's in This Article:

Best Guided Winery Tours: Jordan Winery Estate Tour

I had a blast on the guided winery tour at Jordan Winery Estate . Jordan Winery, located in Healdsburg , has one of the most scenic estates in Sonoma.

The tour started with an introduction of Jordan winery and its history in front of their idyllic, beautiful Chateau. After that, we boarded the luxury vans to begin our tour, which takes you around the 1,200-acre property brimming with rolling hills, grapevines, animals, and picturesque views of Sonoma!

It was a highly engaging and interactive journey. We had the opportunity to taste the grapes directly from the vines on our tour. And we learned how they cultivated each type of grape and what method they used to farm it.

At another stop, there was a beautiful vista point on top of the mountain that allows you to see miles in all directions. You get to view wine country in all its glory, and there’s even an olive grove nearby!

Near the end of the tour, we walked through a luscious fruit and vegetable garden with 10-foot sunflowers, huge pumpkins, goji berries, pomegranates, and so much more. We even tried some deliciously sweet figs picked right off the tree. After the tour, we were delighted to have a fantastic meal straight from their organic farm that we just walked through. It was so lovely to sit under the shade of the Chateau trees and eat outdoors in a French cafe-type setting. And of course, the food was paired with their famous Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay wines…everything really went well together.

I can’t remember when I last ate such good food and drank such delicious wines while learning about something new at the same time – definitely planning to visit here again soon!

Best Guided Winery Tours: Cakebread Cellars

If you’re looking for a wine tour that will excite your taste buds and fill your bellies with wine, look no further than a Cakebread Cellars tour. In particular, I recommend the Sustainable Wines and Vines Tour . This tour includes a guided walk through their home ranch vineyards, where you’ll hear about their history of winemaking while also learning about all the sustainable practices they use.

Best Guided Winery Tours in Napa and Sonoma

Cakebread Vineyards. Photo by Mark Fang

On the tour, we learned all about their sustainable methods, production facilities, and winemaking processes. They even began the tour in their parking lot that was built with sustainability in mind. We toured their vines to learn about trellising and then visited the production facility to discover how they produce the wines. We discovered their unique winemaking processes, such as the use of concrete eggs for fermenting and aging white wines.

And throughout the tour, you’ll taste a diverse portfolio of their delicious wines. And for WineOs out there, if you want seconds, they won’t object to pouring more. Our guide was knowledgeable about the wines, passionate about sustainability, and very welcoming with us.

If you’re planning a vacation to Napa Valley, be sure to add the Cakebread Winery Estate Tour to your itinerary!

Best Guided Winery Tours: Nickel & Nickel Winery

Located in the heart of Napa Valley, Nickel & Nickel produces some of my favorite Napa Cabernets and Chardonnays . And though not as well-known as some wineries, it’s a must-visit for me every time we visit Napa.

The walking tour takes you inside the grounds of their winery. It begins at John C Sullenger’s historic house, where you get to try their award-winning Chardonnay for the first time.

After that, you’ll enter the fermentation barns and barrel cellars. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and went through the winery’s entire winemaking process, and expertly fielded all of our inquiries. The barrel cellars were immaculate, organized, and magnificent to see. They even showed us all of the different soils that make up their vineyards, each in its own container. Overall, the estate tour was very informative, and we picked up a lot of new information.

The final leg of the wine tour was a seated, guided tasting by one of their wine hosts. We tried four of their single-vineyard Cabernets paired with complimentary cheeses. Every one of them was exquisite, and again some of my all-time favorite Cabernets in Napa Valley.

Best Guided Winery Tours: Quintessa

When I think of high-end, luxury Napa wineries, Quintessa is the first one that comes to mind. They only produce one varietal—Cabernet Sauvignon.

Their private tour begins with a guided walk (or ride on a golf cart) through Quintessa Estate’s natural environment with panoramic, sweeping views over the Rutherford appellation. Our host/guide went over all the winery’s beliefs regarding organic and biodynamic farming practices, as well as their long history and Chilean founder’s backstory. I was also pleasantly surprised at the stunning vistas this journey has on the eastern edge of the Rutherford District. The view extends over Quintessa’s reservoir named “Dragon’s Lake” that you would never know about without taking this excursion.

Best Guided Winery Tours in Napa and Sonoma

Our guide was very knowledgeable and kind. He talked about his experiences in the wine industry, including his recent return from Bordeaux, which opened him up to Old World wines. Our guide answered all my more complex questions about the winery and was always happy to take photographs for us whenever we wanted. I also discovered that our guide did a little research ahead of time, and knew that I work in the wine industry. It was top-notch service throughout.

After the tour, they offer tastings on the hilltop in modern, beautiful pavilions, or you may return to their contemporary, architectural estate. We tasted four different vintages of their high-end Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as two vintages of their Sauvignon Blanc. The wines were outstanding. Our guide topped off our glasses with a few more glasses of their older vintages to really demonstrate the difference between years.

This was a high-quality, excellent service wine tour that was highly educational and well planned. And it was completely private for us, there was no one else on the tour.

So next time opt for a winery tour! It’s not just informative but extremely fun. I’d highly recommend these winery tours if you are in Napa or Sonoma. You’ll have a blast!

  • - Visit the world's famous Kazan Cathedral .
  • - See the State Department Store (GUM), once the Upper Trading Stalls, which were built over a century ago and still operating!
  • - Admire the lovely St. Basil's Cathedral! The French diplomat Marquis de Custine commented that it combined "the scales of a golden fish, the enamelled skin of a serpent, the changeful hues of the lizard, the glossy rose and azure of the pigeon's neck" and wondered at "the men who go to worship God in this box of confectionery work".
  • - Walk by Lobnoye Mesto (literally meaning "Execution Place", or "Place of Skulls"), once Ivan the Terrible's stage for religious ceremonies, speeches, and important events.
  • - Entering the Alexander Garden , you’ll take in spectacular views of Russian architecture from ancient to Soviet times, as well as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with an eternal flame. Watch Changing of the Guard Ceremony every hour in summer and every half an hour in winter.

Kitai-gorod:

Stroll along medieval Kitai-gorod with its strong ancient Russia feel, known for its bohemian lifestyle, markets and arts.

  • - Nikolskaya Street. Here you will find the Russia's first publishing house, the second oldest monastery, and Ferryn Pharmacy, known as the number one pharmacy back in Soviet times and famous for its Empire-style architecture.
  • - Ilinka Street. The financial street of the Kitaigorod (China Town) district, where you’ll find the Gostiny Dvor (Merchant’s Yard), which is now a showroom for Ferraris and Maseratis. The street was designed in the 1790s by Catherine the Great.
  • - Varvarka street. The oldest street in Moscow, which dates back to the 14th century, and still has remnants of early Muscovite architecture, such as the Old English Court and the Palace of the Romanov’s.
  • - Kamergersky Lane. Only a small road of about 250 meters, it is home to some of the oldest artifacts of the city, as each building holds a fascinating story. Some of Russia's most famous writers, poets, and composers from as far back as the Golden Age of Russian culture, have lived or worked on this lane.

Historic City Center

Walk the historical old center of Moscow with its cool local vibe, including the main Tverskaya street , and indulge in desserts in the first grocery “Eliseev's store” , housed in an 18th century neoclassical building, famous for its baroque interior and decoration.

From our tour. Impressions of our American tourist:

At 3:30, as energy flagged, lunch was on the agenda at a Ukrainian restaurant.  Just in time!  We asked our guide to order for us.  We all had the same thing....borscht (the Ukrainian version has beans and more tomatoes than the Russian version, which has more beets and includes beef).

The special high bread served is called galushki.  Our main course was golubtsy...a dish of minced meat rolled in braised cabbage leaves.  Both dishes called for optional sour cream as a topping....of course, yes, please....I recommend it.

Full, satisfied, and completely refreshed, it was off to Red Square and St. Basil's and GUM department store.  Red Square is not so named because of the color of the brick walls of the Kremlin.  Rather the word for 'red' and the word for 'beautiful' are similar in pronunciation....and, there you have it.

As we made the turn by the National Museum in front of which is the mounted sculpture of the "Marshall of Victory," Giorgy Zhukov from WWII and caught our first view of St. Basil's, my friend and I simultaneously emitted "Oooohhhhh!"  There it was....the iconic onion domes of St. Basil's!  Hooray....it was open until 7....we had about 30 minutes and were allowed in, AND we could take photos with no flash.

Now, I can give you a taste of what we saw in the other cathedrals in Cathedral Square.  What we learned is that St. Vasily and St. Basil are one in the same....Russian/English.  He was a common man who wandered Moscow unclothed and barefoot.  But, all, even Ivan the Terrible, heeded his opinions derived from his visions.  Ivan had this cathedral built over his tomb.

As we exited and took photos up close of the onion domes, Inna presented us with chocolate (how did she know we were ready for another energy boost, and we each got a big piece of chocolate.  The baby's name pictured on the wrapper of this famous Russian chocolate is Alyonka....the Russian Gerber baby, don't you think?

One could wear out the credit card in GUM's (capitalized because it is actually a government abbreviation), but the 'kitty' and my credit card stayed in my pocket as we strolled through the glass-topped arcade.

We then strolled through some of Moscow's lovely pedestrian streets; paused to listen as a wonderful quartet performed Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" in an underground passage to cross the busy street (hooray!....we DID have our 'classical concert' experience after all; a request Alina tried in vain to fill because none was scheduled those days), saw the Bolshoi, which means 'big' (my friend has yet to recover that their performance schedule did not coincide with our cruise), saw the Central Telegraph Building, dating from the 1930's, and made our way to the Ritz-Carlton to see the night view of Moscow from the rooftop bar, called O2.

There were fleece blankets to wrap yourself in....yes, it got that cold when the sun set.  We each ordered something hot to drink...the ginger, mint, lemon tea served to me in a parfait glass (for 600 rubles...about $9....you pay for the view here!) was delightful and hit the spot perfectly.  It was time to call it a night....

Meet, Taste, Learn, Repeat: Vinitaly International returns to Moscow and St. Petersburg

VERONA, Italy , Oct. 9, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The political crisis of 2014 considerably transformed the Russian market. It changed consumer habits, limited the population's purchasing power, and altered the ways importers and distributors operated. Repercussions are only now behind us: Russia's economy is recuperating, and the benefits can also be found in its wine imports. According to a survey published in Wine News, in the first quarter of 2019, the country imported 193 million euros in wine and 28.6 million euros in sparkling wines. With 14.4 million euros in bubbles and 48.7 million euros in still wines, Italy has once again confirmed its position as leading trading partner.

These recent data only reaffirmed what the industry already knew: in Russia , Italian wine producers are very much at an advantage over many others, firstly, because there is no embargo on alcohol from Europe and secondly, because of Russian's unbridled passion for this Italian product. The prominent status of Italian wine currently being felt in Russia has also been determined by one of its fiercest promoters: Vinitaly Russia, the Russian wine fair for Italian wine organized by Vinitaly International and Veronafiere, now in its 16th edition.

The first stop of Vinitaly Russia will take place on October 28th, 2019 , at the luxurious Lotte Hotel, in the heart of Moscow . The Moscow event will be launched by Italian Ambassador Pasquale Terraciano , and will feature a business session entitled "Meet Russian Importers" dedicated to issues concerning the Russian wine industry. Thereafter, a selected group of people including wine professionals, press, distributors and tradespeople will be invited to take part in a B2B Walk-Around Tasting. The afternoon will be dedicated to a series of educational masterclasses focusing on Italian wine regions such as Piedmont, Tuscany , Abruzzo, and Sicily , along with a special session entitled "Wine Faults". Over the past three years, producers have demonstrated a huge interest in the Russian capital and registrations to Vinitaly Moscow confirm this. In 2017 only 41 operators participated in this event, but this year the number has doubled, and 60 Italian wineries as well as 20 Russian importers (for a total of 80 operators), will be welcomed to the Russian capital.

The second stop of the Vinitaly Russia tour will take place in St. Petersburg , on October 30th, 2019 , at the Kempinski Hotel Moika 22. While this second installment is usually presented in the form of a networking dinner, this year the event has been completely reinvented and transformed into a B2B Walk-Around Tasting. The tasting will see 28 producers and 16 importers come together in the name of Italian wine and will be inaugurated by Italian Consul General in St. Petersburg Alessandro Monti . Educational masterclasses will be a highlight at the St. Petersburg stop as well. Cantina Tollo and Casal Thaulero will present a focus on Abruzzo, while Simple Wine News will explore Northern Piedmont.

Vinitaly Russia's mission to promote Italian excellence can also be seen through its sponsors that will support the tour in Moscow and St. Peterburg: RCR Cristalleria Italiana, San Pellegrino, OlivaItalia, Enofrigo, The Russian Kavist Association, Pellini, Antico Eramo , AltaGamma and Pane e Salame. Official media partner of the event is Simple Wine News, while media partner is Vinnaya Karta.

To learn more about the events in Moscow and St. Petersburg , please follow us on social media and consult our website.

About The grand Vinitaly 2020 will be held from April 19th to the 22nd. Every year, Vinitaly counts more than 4,000 exhibitors on a 100,000+ square meter area and 130,000 visitors from over 140 different countries with more than 30,000 top international buyers. The premier event to Vinitaly, OperaWine "Finest Italian Wines: 100 Great Producers," which will be held on the 18th of April, one day prior to Vinitaly will unite international wine professionals in the heart of Verona, offering them the unique opportunity to discover and taste the wines of the 100 Best Italian Producers, as selected by Wine Spectator. Since 1998 Vinitaly International travels to several countries such as Russia , China , USA and Hong Kong thanks to its strategic arm abroad, Vinitaly International. In February 2014 Vinitaly International launched an educational project, the Vinitaly International Academy (VIA) with the aim of divulging and broadcasting the excellence and diversity of Italian wine around the globe. VIA this year launched the seventh edition of its Certification Course and today counts 204 Italian Wine Ambassadors and 14 Italian Wine Experts.

Designation of origin Malaga

The history of do malaga.

Spanish Wine - DO Málaga

The first references to Malaga wines can be traced back to the phoenicians, as with most of the wine making regions in Spain . When the Greeks founded Mainake in 600 b.C. they taught the natives how to work the vines to get wine, and as time passed it began to gain importance. The Romans were the ones that really started to produce wine in the region and planted most of the vines, and there are ruins to prove it: a fermentation deposit was found in Cártama, 30km away from the capital. During the Muslim occupation in Malaga, taxes had to be paid to be able to produce wine, as it was prohibited by the Quran laws, but after the Reconquest the wine makers of the area formed the Wine Makers Fraternity to promote their sector.

Spanish Wine - DO Málaga

The fame of Malaga wines soon trespassed Spanish borders and spread around the world. In 1791 the Spanish Ambassador in Moscow promised Catherine The Great , Empress of Russia, some Malaga wine cases ; she was so happy and so awed by their taste and quality that she banned any taxes to be placed on Malaga wines arriving in Russia. The phylloxera reached Malaga in 1878 and with the bug came the downfall of these excellent wines, which wouldn't recover until well into the 20th century.

After this, Malaga wines were also commonly used for religious ceremonies, and they were mostly ignored until the arrival of Telmo Rodríguez, a wine maker from Malaga, who with his wine Molino Real was able to capture all the sweetness of Malaga wines. Currently, there's quite a demand for sweet wines (or dessert wines, as they're sometimes referred to) in which DO Malaga wines have found their place - quite a feat for a designation of origin with only 18 inscribed cellars. If you are planning a dinner party, you can always count on wines from Malaga to bring a sweet end to the dinner!

DO Málaga in modern days

The DO Málaga - Sierra de Málaga was established at the same time as the DO Jerez, in 1933, during Spain's II Republic. The production takes place in five different areas of Málaga: Axarquía, Montes, Norte, Costa Occidental and the Serranía de Ronda, and each areas has its own characteristics. This generates slightly different wines, which enrich the designation of origin. DO Malaga wines are of the white sweet variety, popularly called "dessert wines" . They have a very popular demand among tourists visiting the region. Nothing better than a sweet cup of wine while relaxing in some beach in Marbella!

DO Málaga wines are produced exclusively with white grapes grown in one of the areas mentioned above. The grapes used are from the Moscatel and Pedro Ximénez varieties, which account for the marked sweet flavor of their wines. There are two main types of wines produced in the DO Málaga :

  • Sweet wines: Produced with grapes that have been over ripened in the sun, so their sugar content is very high.
  • Liquor wines: Produced by adding extra alcohol to the initial grape juice (called mosto ). This stops the fermentation process, so the end product is a dryer wine.

The aging affects the end product greatly. Depending on this, there are several kinds of wine:

  • Málaga Pálido has a maximum aging of 6 months.
  • Málaga, between 6 and 24 months.
  • Málaga Noble, 2 to 3 years.
  • Málaga Añejo, 3 to 5 years.
  • Málaga Trasañejo, over 5 years of aging.

The more time a wine spends in aging, the deeper the color. This is why DO Malaga wines have a range of color that can go from a light yellow to a deep black.

Today Malage is much more well known as being a holiday destination, thanks to its never-ending coastline and fantastic beaches. However, recently, Spanish wine tourism in the region has started to grow in popularity as people have started to explore the rich cultural heritage of the region. If you are into your Spanish culture, Malaga and the south coast are a great option as the region is full of history and has a rich and varied gastronomic culture too.
