Journey is an American rock band formed in 1973 in San Francisco by former members of Santana and Frumious Bandersnatch. The band has gone through several phases; its strongest commercial success occurred between 1978 and 1987, after which it temporarily disbanded. During that period, the band released a series of hit songs, including 1981's "Don't Stop Believin'", which became in 2009 the top-selling catalog track in iTunes history. Its parent studio album, Escape, the band's eighth and most successful, reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and yielded another of their most popular singles, "Open Arms". Its 1983 follow-up, Frontiers, was almost as successful in the United States, reaching No. 2 and spawning several successful singles; it broadened the band's ap… more »

Meaning of Ask the Lonely by Journey

The song "Ask the Lonely" by Journey speaks to the experience of heartbreak and the search for love and comfort in times of despair.

In the first verse, the lyrics describe a situation where the person has been rejected and left with a sense of disappointment and a chip on their shoulder. While the outside world may seem vibrant and full of possibilities ("solid rainbows"), the true growth and healing come from within. The lyrics suggest that picking up the pieces and finding something to believe in can lead to a brighter future.

The chorus emphasizes the importance of holding on and not giving up. It mentions the need to reflect on past experiences, reminding the listener to recall the love they have had. Despite the challenges and the fact that love is not always easy, it suggests that one should persevere and seek solace by asking the lonely for guidance or support.

The second verse touches on the idea that the person has high expectations when it comes to love and has a strong attachment to it. Love becomes an obsession and something to be protected and cherished. However, the lyrics encourage the person to let down their defenses and allow themselves to be open to someone who cares.

The bridge reaffirms the idea of seeking solace in times of hardship. When feeling that love is unfair or when lost in despair, the song suggests turning to the lonely for answers and comfort. The repetition of the phrase "ask the lonely" emphasizes the importance of reaching out and seeking help from those who may understand the pain and loneliness.

In the outro, the song concludes with a reminder to ask the lonely in times of deep despair. It underscores the significance of seeking support and guidance when feeling down or lost in matters of the heart. Ultimately, "Ask the Lonely" encourages listeners to persevere through heartbreak and to lean on others for emotional support and understanding.

the journey's a lonely one

I scoured Google and Journey's site for lyrics and got nothing. After listening to the song, I think these are the correct lyrics. Feel free to make suggest changes. There's a few words I wasn't 100% on.

Either it's "Inside is where the heart grows" or "Inside is where the hurt grows" "Hang on, no don't let go now" or "Hang on, but don't let go now"

Full lyrics:

You’ve been thinking it’s over What’s that chip on your shoulder? Outside were solid rainbows Inside is where the heart grows Picking up the pieces Something more to believe in As you search the embers Think what your heart remembers Hang on, no don’t let go now You know, with every heartbeat With love, nothing comes easy Hang on, ask the lonely

You’ve got some fascination With your high expectations This love is your obsession Your heart, your prized possession Let down your defenses Open up to the one who cares As you search the embers Think what your heart remembers Hang on, no don’t let go now You know, with every heartbeat With love nothing comes easy Hang on, ask the lonely

When you’re feeling love’s unfair You just ask the lonely When you’re lost in deep despair You just ask the lonely

Heeey hey Ask the lonely

When you’re down in deep despair When you’re down in deep despair

Ask the lo-lo-lo-lonely Lonely

I think what you've written out is the most accurate I've come across. The first line is definitely "thinkin'" not "picked and".

@blanklogo thank you and I agree with you at least regarding the first lyric line which is what I was concerned with. I didn't feel he was singing "you've been picked" as every freaking lyric site had. It sounded clearly like Steve was singing "you've been thinking"...

@blanklogo Omfg if you think those are the actual lyrics you were born ignorant of. The fucking lyrics are:<br /> <br /> You've been picked and it's over<br /> What's the chip on your shoulder?<br /> Outside were solid rainbows<br /> Inside is where the heart grows<br /> <br /> Picking up the pieces<br /> Something more to believe in<br /> As you search the embers<br /> Think what you've had, remember<br /> <br /> Hang on, no don't you let go now<br /> You know, with every heartbeat, we love<br /> Nothing comes easy<br /> Hang on, ask the lonely<br /> <br /> You've got some fascination<br /> With your high expectations<br /> This love is your obsession<br /> Your heart, your past possession<br /> <br /> Let down your defenses<br /> Won't be up to the one who cares<br /> As you search the embers<br /> Think what you've had, remember<br /> <br /> Hang on, no don't you let go now<br /> You know, with every heartbeat, we love<br /> Nothing comes easy<br /> Hang on, ask the lonely<br /> <br /> When you're feeling love's unfair<br /> You just ask the lonely<br /> When you're lost in deep despair<br /> You just ask the lonely<br /> <br /> When you're feeling love's unfair<br /> You just ask the lonely<br /> When you're lost in deep despair<br /> You just ask the lonely<br /> <br /> When you're feeling love's unfair<br /> You just ask the lonely<br /> When you're lost in deep despair<br /> You just ask the lonely<br /> <br /> Ask the lonely<br /> <br /> When you're down in deep despair<br /> When you're down in deep despair<br /> Ask the lonely<br /> Lonely<br /> Lonely<br /> <br /> These are the word that Journey themselves wrote, and you're BUTCHERING it with your opinion of what's best. Keyword opinion you fucking moron.<br /> <br /> You're ruing the work of the masters themselves. Respect Steve Perry's legacy.<br /> <br /> It's "you've been picked and," not "you've been thinking"<br /> <br /> It's "your heart, your past possession," not "prized"<br /> <br /> It's not "open up to the one," it's "won't be up to the one,"<br /> <br /> If you genuinely think this, you are a moron who doesn't deserve to call themselves a Journey fan. Show a little respect.

Every fucking person is an idiot for thinking those are the lyrics.

@IMarrydDaveGrohl Omg yes. I completely and totally agree with you. These people don't deserve to call themselves Journey fans. You know the real lyrics (I hope)

To me this song seems like it's directed at the people who are very superficial who think the nice person is not for them, and then wonder why they can't find solid relationship when all the asshole egotistical person break their heart. Pretty straight forward if you ask me. I mean just listen to that catchy and most epic chorus.

Steve Perry said that he had a special place in his heart for this song.

I think this song is sung from the singer to a friend. He is giving his friend advice not to leave his wife/girlfriend. He's saying you should hang on to the love you have and talk things over with her. The singer has probably lost a love in the past and is now lonely and alone and he doesn't want the same fate for his friend.

“You've been thinking it's over. What's that chip on your shoulder?” (He thinks his friend wants to part with his girlfriend because he can’t forgive her for something or maybe he’s judged her unfairly.)

“Outside were solid rainbows. Inside is where the heart grows.” (He's telling his friend that he seemed happy with this girl and love is surely there down deep inside.)

“Picking up the pieces: something more to believe in..” (He's saying that when a couple goes through some bad times and works them out, they are stronger afterwards.)

“As you search the embers, think what you had; remember.” (He's giving him advice to think about the love they shared as he tries to see if anything in this relationship is salvageable.)

“Hang on. No, don't let go now. You know, with every heartbeat we love. Nothing comes easy. Hang on. Ask the lonely.” (He’s telling him that relationships require perseverance, work and understanding and that once you love someone you will always love. Don’t break up with her or you will be alone and lonely like I am. Ask me how I feel about losing my love because of my own resistance to accept her faults.)

“You've got some fascination with your high expectations.” (He tells his friend that he is expecting too much of his girlfriend. No one’s perfect. Be more understanding; be forgiving.)

“This love is your obsession; your heart, your prized possession.” (He thinks that his friend actually loves the girl but he is unwilling to really give himself to her.)

“Let down your defenses. Open up to the one who cares.” (He’s giving his friend advice to open up to his girlfriend and learn to love and be loved.)

“When you’re feeling love’s unfair, you just ask the lonely. When you’re lost in deep despair, you just ask the lonely.” (Again, he’s telling his friend that he is going to lose the best thing that ever happened to him if he doesn’t watch out. He knows, because it happened to him and now he’s alone and lonely.)

Journey - Greatest Hits Album Lyrics

In the shadows of a golden age A generation waits for dawn Brave carry on Bold and the strong

[Chorus:] Only the young can say They're free to fly away Sharing the same desires Burnin' like wildfire

They're seein' through the promises And all the lies they dare to tell Is it heaven or hell? They know very well

A singer in a smokey room A smell of wine and cheap perfume For a smile they can share the night It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting Up and down the boulevard Their shadows searching In the night Streetlights, people Livin' just to find emotion Hidin', somewhere in the night

Workin' hard to get my fill Everybody wants a thrill Payin' anything to roll the dice Just one more time Some will win Some will lose Some were born to sing the blues Oh, the movie never ends It goes on and on and on and on

[Instrumental Interlude]

[Chorus:] Wheel in the sky keeps on turnin' I don't know where I'll be tomorrow Wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'

I've been trying to make it home Got to make it before too long I can't take this very much longer I'm stranded in the sleet and rain Don't think I'm ever gonna make it home again The mornin' sun is risin' It's kissing the day

They say that the road Ain't no place to start a family Right down the line It's been you and me And lovin' a music man Ain't always what it's supposed to be Oh, girl, you stand by me I'm forever yours Faithfully

Circus life Under the big top world We all need the clowns To make us smile Through space and time Always another show Wondering where I am Lost without you

And being apart Ain't easy on this love affair Two strangers learn to fall in love again I get the joy of rediscovering you Oh, girl, you stand by me I'm forever yours Faithfully

Whooa, oh-oh-ooh Whooa, oh-oh-ooh, oh Whooa, oh-oh-oh, oh-whoooooa-oh Faithfully I'm still yours

I do these things... (It's all because of you) I keep holding on, but I'll try (try not to think of you) Love don't leave me lonely I'll be alright without you

There'll be someone else...I keep tellin' myself I'll be alright without you Oh...love's an empty face, I can't replace (you don't need it)

People wonderin' why we broke apart The great pretender here I go again These things I do (It's all because of you)

I'll keep holdin' but I'll try (try not to think of you) All I wanted was to hold you I'll be alright without you There'll be someone else, I keep tellin' myself

I'll be alright without you Love's an empty face...Oh I've got to replace I'll be alright without you There'll be someone else, I keep tellin' myself

Any way you want it That's the way you need it Any way you want it She said, Any way you want it That's the way you need it Any way you want it

I was alone I never knew What good love could do Ooh, then we touched Then we sang About the lovin' things

Ooh, all night, all night Oh, every night So hold tight, hold tight Ooh baby, hold tight Oh, she said,

[Chorus:] As you search the embers Think what you've had, remember Hang on, don't you let go now You know, with every heartbeat, we love Nothing comes easy Hang on, ask the lonely

You've got some fascination With you high expectations This love is your obsession Your heart, your past possession Let down your defences Won't be up to the one who cares

Hang on, ask the lonely When you're feeling love's unfair You just ask the lonely When you're lost in deep despair You just ask the lonely

[Chorus 2x]

One love feeds the fire One heart burns desire Wonder who's cryin' now Two hearts born to run Who'll be the lonely one Wonder who's cryin' now

So many stormy nights So many wrongs or rights Neither could change Their headstrong ways And in a lover's rage They tore another page The fightin' is worth The love they save

Only so many tears you can cry 'Til the heartache is over And now you can say your love Will never die

Whoooooa-oh-whoa Whoooa-oh Ooooooh-whoa, ooh-whooa

Feelin' that it's gone Can't change your mind If we can't go on To survive the tide Love divides

Someday love will find you Break those chains that bind you One night will remind you How we touched And went our separate ways If he ever hurts you True love won't desert you You know I still love you Though we touched And went our separate ways

Troubled times Caught between confusions and pain, pain, pain Distant eyes Promises we made were in vain In vain, vain

If you must go I wish you love You'll never walk alone Take care my love Miss you love

Oooooooooh Someday love will find you Break those chains that bind you One night will remind you If he ever hurts you True love won't desert you You know I still love you

So you think you're lonely Well my friend I'm lonely too I want to get back to my City by the bay Ooh, ooh

It's sad, oh there's been mornings out on the road without you, Without your charms, Ooh, my, my, my

Lovin', touchin', squeezin' each other When I'm alone all by myself You're out with someone else Lovin', touchin', squeezin' each other

You're tearin' me apart Every day, every day You're tearin' me apart Oh what can I say? You're tearin' me apart

It won't be long, yes till you're alone When your lover, oh, he hasn't come home Cause he's lovin' oo, he's touchin', He's squeezin' another

So now I come to you With open arms Nothing to hide Believe what I say So here I am With open arms Hoping you'll see What your love means to me Open arms

Living without you Living alone This empty house seems so cold Wanting to hold you Wanting you near How much I wanted you home

But now that you've come back Turned night into day I need you to stay

[Chorus:] The girl can't help it, she needs more He hasn't found what he's lookin' for They're still standing in the rain He can't help it, and she's just that way And when he calls her She tells him that she still cares Under the moonlight, He wonders why she can't be there...why Why do they go on alone When they're missin' each other

[Chorus:] Send her my love, memories remain Send her my love, roses never fade Send her my love

The same hotel, the same old room I'm on the road again She needed so much more Than I could give We knew our love could not pretend Broken hearts can always mend.

Callin' out her name I'm dreamin' Reflections of a face I'm seein' It's her voice That keeps on haunting me

[Chorus:] Be good to yourself when, nobody else will Oh be good to yourself You're walkin' a high wire, caught in a cross fire Oh be good to yourself When you can't give no more They want it all but you gotta say no

I'm turnin' off the noise that makes me crazy Lookin' back with no regrets To forgive is to forget I want a little piece of mind to turn to

7 Types of Loneliness, and Why It Matters

One key — maybe the key — to happiness is strong connections to other people..

One major challenge within happiness is loneliness . The more I’ve learned about happiness, the more I’ve come to believe that loneliness is a common and important obstacle to consider.

To be happy, we need intimate bonds; we need to be able to confide, we need to feel like we belong, we need to be able to get and give support. In fact, strong relationships are key — perhaps the key — to a happy life.

Of course, being alone and being lonely aren’t the same. Loneliness feels draining, distracting, and upsetting; desired solitude feels peaceful, creative, restorative.

It seems to me that there are several types of loneliness. Of course, not everyone experiences loneliness in the situations described — for instance, not everyone wants a romantic partner. But for some people, the lack of certain kinds of relationships brings loneliness.

Once we’ve pinpointed the particular kind of loneliness we’re experiencing, it may be easier to spot ways to address it.

Here are some types I’ve identified. What have I overlooked?

1. New-situation loneliness. You’ve moved to a new city where you don’t know anyone, or you’ve started a new job, or you’ve started at a school full of unfamiliar faces. You’re lonely.

2. I’m-different loneliness. You’re in a place that’s not unfamiliar, but you feel different from other people in an important way that makes you feel isolated. Maybe your faith is really important to you, and the people around you don’t share that — or vice versa. Maybe everyone loves doing outdoor activities, but you don’t — or vice versa. It feels hard to connect with others about the things you find important. Or maybe you’re just hit with the loneliness that hits all of us sometimes — the loneliness that’s part of the human condition.

3. No-sweetheart loneliness. Even if you have lots of family and friends, you feel lonely because you don’t have the intimate attachment of a romantic partner. Or maybe you have a partner, but you don’t feel a deep connection to that person.

4. No-animal loneliness. Many people have a deep need to connect with animals. If this describes you, you’re sustained by these relationships in a way that human relationships don’t replace. While I love my dog Barnaby, I don’t feel this myself — but many people feel like something important is missing if they don’t have a dog or cat (or less conveniently, a horse) in their lives.

5. No-time-for-me loneliness. Sometimes you’re surrounded by people who seem friendly enough, but they don’t want to make the jump from friendly to friends. Maybe they’re too busy with their own lives, or they have lots of friends already, so while you’d like a deeper connection, they don’t seem interested. Or maybe your existing friends have entered a new phase that means they no longer have time for the things you all used to do — everyone has started working very long hours or has started a family, so your social scene has changed.

6. Untrustworthy-friends loneliness. Sometimes, you get in a situation where you begin to doubt whether your friends are truly well-intentioned, kind, and helpful. You’re “friends” with people but don’t quite trust them. An important element of friendship is the ability to confide and trust, so if that’s missing, you may feel lonely, even if you have fun with your friends.

7. Quiet-presence loneliness. Sometimes, you may feel lonely because you miss having someone else’s quiet presence. You may have an active social circle at work, or have plenty of friends and family, but you miss having someone to hang out with at home — whether that would mean living with a roommate, a family member, or a sweetheart. Just someone who’s fixing a cup of coffee in the next room, or reading on the sofa.

It’s important to realize why we feel lonely, because only then can we see how we might address it. If you’re no-time-for-me lonely, for instance, maybe a solution would be to work with people on a project, where you’d be doing an endeavor together, on something you’ve all made time for. My mother once noted — and I think it’s very true — it’s easier to make friends when you’re working on a project together.

the journey's a lonely one

Loneliness is a major factor in unhappiness, so it’s an important area to tackle if you’re working on making yourself happier.

One of the keys — maybe the key — to happiness is strong connections to other people. The lack of these bonds, even temporarily, is a major happiness stumbling block. Have you found any good ways to understand and deal with loneliness?

I highly recommend two books: Loneliness: Human Nature and the Need for Social Connection , by John Cacioppo and William Patrick, and Lonely , by Emily White, a memoir about her own experiences and research into loneliness.

With the Vision Pro’s Spatial Personas, you can be lonely with friends

It was nice to have someone to hang out with, but you never really forget they’re not actually there..

By Victoria Song , a senior reporter focusing on wearables, health tech, and more with 11 years of experience. Before coming to The Verge, she worked for Gizmodo and PC Magazine.

Wes’ Persona floating in an office while looking at the album art to Cowboy Carter

The inside of an Apple Vision Pro is a lonely place to be. My spouse and I can’t watch movies together. It’s hard to describe what the world looks like in there to curious friends. Even if I’m standing next to you, even if there’s a ghostly projection of my eyes on the front display — there’s a barrier between me and you.

Unless you also have a Vision Pro headset and have enabled Spatial Personas.

Apple debuted Spatial Personas last week. It unleashes your uncanny digital avatar from the FaceTime window and into any SharePlay-enabled app as well as your virtual space. Call me intrigued. Loneliness was a con of the Vision Pro that reviewer after reviewer pointed out.  Would this help that? I called up our weekend editor, Wes Davis, who also has a Vision Pro, to find out.

  • Now Apple Vision Pro Personas can float freely across different apps

I’m deeply acquainted with Wes’ Persona — and his unmoving virtual mustache. Even so, it was unsettling having a ghostly Wes in my office roaming around. Like a horror movie, sometimes I’d look away from Wesona and then he’d be all up in my business. I’d then have to pinch Wesona and place him on the other side of my office. It wasn’t even his whole self, either. Personas only project your head, neck, a hint of shoulders, and your hands. There’s no body, legs, or arms. That can make hands appear in odd places. And when a person turns around, sometimes they disappear because Personas don’t capture the back of your head. Sometimes you grow and shrink like Ant-Man. In those moments, it reinforces the idea that your friend isn’t really there.

Victoria’s spatial Persona’s tiny head appearing in Wes’ countertop

As odd as it could feel, Spatial Personas are impressive. I usually stay seated in the Vision Pro, but having the Spatial Personas encouraged me to move around more, particularly when scribbling and doodling in Freeform. (Though, I wish I had some kind of stylus for drawing. The various Kirbys I drew were… lumpy.) We played a game of virtual chess in Game Room, and I felt a bit like a war general in a sci-fi flick, walking around a table surveying the location of my troops, thoughtfully stroking my nonexistent beard. Granted, I led my troops to a crushing defeat in seven minutes, but the vibe was there.

Those were fun experiences — but gimmicky, too. There’s a lot of troubleshooting, especially if the eye tracking is acting up or you start to feel the weight of the headset out of the blue. We already share presentations and collaborative software over Zoom. During the height of covid-19, we all found creative ways to remotely connect without needing a $3,500 headset. I was one of those people who got really into Animal Crossing , visiting friends’ islands for that 600 bell turnip price, screaming and kicking our feet while gossiping over voice chat. That wasn’t nearly as technologically impressive as Wesona’s ghostly hand checkmating my king, but it went much further in making me feel less alone.

Using Spatial Personas with Apple Music was more fun. I did my damnedest to convert Wes to K-pop with Stray Kids’ excellent “Back Door,” “Thunderous,” and “Case 143” music videos. He remained rudely unmoved. We pivoted to Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter album. This, we both agreed, was a great album, but without a visual element, it was weird to sit there as ghosts and nod along. Co-working to music in the Vision Pro — at least for our jobs as writers — is odd, too. If I’m typing away at a draft on my virtual Mac screen, why would I want to look over and see Wesona clicky-clacking away at his separate draft?

But there were a few moments when I glimpsed what Apple thinks Spatial Personas could be — namely, when we watched a few scenes from Spirited Away on Wes’ Plex server and The Last Jedi on Apple TV. (What better movie to watch than the one where Rey and Kylo Ren are essentially Spatial Persona FaceTiming with each other?) That felt closest to dropping in on your friend’s couch and watching a movie together where, if a sick scene happens, you can turn, look at your bud, and say, “Did you just see that?!” In our case, we got into a deep discussion about the Star Wars sequel trilogy and everything wrong with it. By the end, I wished my friends on the other side of the world — the ones I only get to see once every few years if I’m lucky — had Vision Pros, too.

Wes’ Persona staring at a blank screen in a darkened office.

When the Vision Pro works, it works . But when it doesn’t, when you can see the seams, it can leave you feeling lonelier than before you stuck the headset on. What you don’t see are all the awkward pauses when Wes and I had to troubleshoot and figure out why something wasn’t working — things that are harder when you have a headset on, and for whatever reason, that day, the Vision Pro was having trouble with eye tracking. (Wes doesn’t have nearly as many issues with eye tracking, but I need to recalibrate mine every few sessions.)

Then, there’s the hurdle of actually being able to watch things together. Apple spokesperson Zach Kahn confirmed that for subscriber-only content, like Apple Originals from Apple TV Plus, you both need to have a subscription. (Unless you share a subscription via Family Sharing.) You’re also limited to apps that support SharePlay. It’d be better if you could put the headset on, pick any app, and go.

So, did Spatial Personas make the Vision Pro less lonely? Yes and no. Testing Spatial Personas is the most fun I’ve had in the headset thus far. On the other hand, Wes is still the only person I know who uses his Vision Pro regularly. I don’t feel comfortable asking my friends to shell out $3,500 to hang out with me virtually when that money could buy a round-trip plane ticket to actually visit me. Some of this will hopefully get better with time. But for now, I’m still mostly alone in here.

What happens during a solar eclipse? Experts explain the awe-inspiring phenomena to expect on April 8

By David Pogue

Updated on: April 8, 2024 / 9:03 AM EDT / CBS News

Monday's total eclipse of the sun won't be just any old eclipse; it's being referred to as the Great American Eclipse, because it's going through some very populated areas of the United States. Solar eclipses actually occur every 18 months or so, but during most of them the spectacle is "wasted" on empty ocean. But this afternoon , the moon's shadow will leave 32 million Americans in 15 states briefly in the dark.

  • Solar eclipse maps show 2024 totality path, peak times

Where is the best place to view the eclipse?

map-of-totality-nasa-getty.jpg

What exactly is a total eclipse?

Astronomy author and educator Ed Ting says that in a solar eclipse, the moon passes exactly between your eyes and the sun, and casts its shadow on the Earth. That shadow is only about 100 miles wide, so you have to be in a specific place to witness the solar eclipse in totality.

It's all the result of a freakish cosmic coincidence, when the moon and sun appear to be the exact same size in the sky. "The sun is 400 times bigger than the moon," said Ting. "But by happy coincidence, it is also 400 times further away. So, from our perspective they are the same size."

Total Solar Eclipse, 2017, Grand Tetons National Park , Teton County, Wyoming

What can happen during a total solar eclipse?

But the thrill of an eclipse isn't just about what's overhead – it's what happens all around you as the sky darkens. "The wind sometimes starts to pick up," said Ting. "Animals get confused. The streetlights come on."

But it's not exactly like nighttime. "The sky takes on this sort of fish-scaly, shimmery quality, and you will freak out," Ting said. "You can understand why the ancients ascribe such spiritual or religious significance to eclipses, because you will feel very strange. Half of the people who see an eclipse for the first time will cry."

What preparations are being made?

If you live in the path of the eclipse, you may notice one more effect: A lot more traffic.

Cari White is the chairman of the Eclipse Oversight Committee for Jonesboro, Arkansas, where the moment of totality – complete blockage of the sun – will last 2 minutes and 17 seconds. And for that experience of totally, White said the town will briefly grow to twice its size: "One-hundred-sixty-thousand people might be in town for the eclipse, and we're very excited about it," she said. "Our police department, our fire department, city water and light, they've all been working for over a year to design a plan."

And Jonesboro is not alone: "Everywhere, all over the country, [people] are doing exactly what I've been doing. It's a big, big deal."

  • How Americans in the solar eclipse's path of totality plan to celebrate the celestial event on April 8
  • Here's how one airline is planning to provide a total eclipse experience — from 30,000 feet in the air ("CBS Mornings")
  • Hotel prices soar as tourists flock to see solar eclipse

How to safely view the eclipse

Looking directly at the sun can permanently damage your vision, which is why you need eye protection. Cari White's committee in Jonesboro ordered 75,000 pairs of special glasses. "We have been working for weeks to pass them out to all the schools, we've passed them out at all of the major businesses, the library, the city hall," she said. "If you don't have a pair of glasses and you live in Jonesboro, I don't know how to help ya'."

But here's something about the glasses you might not know: According to Ting, "Once totality hits, you can take the glasses off. Because there's not much light coming from the sun. Once the sun starts to come out again, you do need to remember to put your glasses back on!"

Cameras need protective filters, too. But Ting offers a classic piece of advice for would-be photographers: "See your first eclipse, photograph your second. I have seen this personally where there is an eclipse, and the person is not looking up; they're fiddling with their camera. And then, before you know it, the eclipse is gone, you never saw it – and you didn't get the picture."

  • Are your eclipse glasses safe? How to know if they'll really protect your eyes during the total solar eclipse

What about the weather?

Of course, all the precautions in the world won't help you if the conditions aren't right. Asked what she'll do if the weather is bad on Monday, White said, "I guess I'll cry. Don't talk to me about the bad stuff."

Fortunately, it's mostly good stuff.

"When you consider that this truly is the Great American Eclipse, because it goes through the center of the United States, it just puts you in awe," White said. "I just know that it's gonna be wonderful. And I'm gonna take it all in, every second of my two minutes, I'm gonna take it in and enjoy."

'A Journey' Review: Netflix's Filipino film leaves you teary-eyed with profound emotions

MANILA, PHILIPPINES: 'A Journey', now streaming on Netflix , takes viewers on a poignant two-hour exploration of profound emotions.

It revolves around a young woman, Shane, whose cancer returns for the second time and she chooses to opt out of undergoing chemotherapy again.

Instead, she convinces her husband, Bryan, to help her check off the adventures on her bucket list. Accompanied by their close friend, Kristoff, the trio sets off on an unforgettable adventure to Tasmania.

Netflix's 'A Journey' is an emotional one

A still from 'A Journey' (@netflix)

The film delivers a deeply emotional experience, evoking tears as it portrays Shane and Bryan's heartfelt journey through the diagnosis of the deadly disease.

Despite the expected emotional moments, the film also celebrates love and enduring friendships.

It's central philosophy- "survival is not the same as living" is beautiful portrayed, emphasizing the idea that one never knows what may happen tomorrow.

There have been plenty of films made in the past with similar themes, but the portrayal of deep, sentimental human emotions can never become worn out in cinema. In fact, they are the heart of cinema, depicted across all genres.

'A Journey' doesn't bore you with monotony

Paolo Contis, Patrick Garcia and Kaye Abad in 'A Journey' (@netflix)

The plot of the film is quite familiar and has been depicted in several films across continents.

Fortunately, RC Delos Reyes does a brilliant job of not lingering on emotional moments but maintains a steady pace, ensuring the audience remains engaged and invested in the story.

The close, fun relationship shared between the trio provides a heartfelt relief from the heavily loaded emotions of pain and grief.

Paolo Contis, Patrick Garcia and Kaye Abad share a wholesome chemistry and are quite convincing in their respective parts.

'A Journey' makes a worthwhile watch for a relaxed weekend, alone or with loved ones. Just be prepared with tissues handy for this touching ride.
