South Star rising: Internationally acclaimed superstars to headline inaugural music festival

Published on April 23, 2024

Huntsville will soon groove to the rhythms of an eclectic array of international superstars as part of the inaugural South Star Music Festival.

A poster detailing the lineup for the inaugural South Star Music Festival in Huntsville. It's very colorful with flowers in the corners and space imagery in the background.

Festival producer C3 Presents announced Blink-182, Gwen Stefani, Shinedown, Beck, Ludacris, TLC, Jane’s Addiction, Sublime and Goo Goo Dolls will top the bill of the two-day event, set for Sept. 28-29 in John Hunt Park. A complete list of performers can be found  here .

“I am excited by the incredible level of talent set to perform in Huntsville this fall,” Mayor Tommy Battle said. “We look forward to a successful collaboration with C3 Presents on this inaugural festival and future events that enrich our cultural landscape.”

Mayor Battle emphasized the significance of the power-packed lineup in establishing Huntsville as a burgeoning destination for live music lovers. He added the festival represents another quality-of-life amenity for music fans as well as an economic driver for the City’s tourism, service and retail sectors.

Huntsville Music Officer Matt Mandrella described the festival’s lineup as a dream come true for music fans. He said C3 Presents’ decision to start a new festival in Huntsville speaks volumes about the City’s reputation and trajectory toward becoming a world-class music city.

Mandrella also praised C3’s attention to detail and market research, which should satisfy anyone worried about having to choose between football or the festival. To that end, C3 is setting up a massive sports bar for SEC and NFL fans wanting to keep tabs on big games.

“The epic scale and quality of product C3 produces will elevate our entire music landscape,” he said. “Artists talk to each other about their experiences, and it’s obvious these artists have all heard good things about Huntsville. It’s an exciting time for music in Huntsville, and we look forward to welcoming music fans and visitors alike to John Hunt Park in September.”

Advance tickets for the South Star Music Festival go on sale Thursday, April 25, while the public sale begins Friday, April 26. One-day and two-day passes are available.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).

Breakaway Music Festival Tampa: Guide to parking, lineup, tickets and more

  • Gabrielle Calise Times staff

Get ready, electronic music lovers. Breakaway Music Festival is finally making its debut in Tampa this weekend.

The multi-stage festival takes place at Raymond James Stadium from 5 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday. Here’s everything you need to know before you go.

What is Breakaway Music Festival? And why is it coming to Tampa?

Breakaway Music Festival is an immersive live music experience that debuted in Columbus, Ohio, in 2016. The goal was to bring world-class DJs and electronic dance music to underserved markets.

“It’s not Chicago, New York, Los Angeles or Miami, but anything in between,” said co-founder Zach Reuben.

There are now 11 Breakaway Music Festivals across the country, plus 9 additional stops on the Breakaway college tour. Over 100,000 fans attended in 2023.

Breakaway Music Festival has been eyeing Tampa for a while, Reuben explained, thanks to the city’s young population, growing workforce, large colleges and corporate headquarters. Breakaway Music Festival fills a void left in the market when Sunset Music Festival announced that it would not take place in 2024 .

“It obviously worked out for the better that it didn’t return, but it kind of was independent of our planning,” Reuben said.

Breakaway Music Festival’s lineup

The festival features two stages and a silent disco. The lineup includes a diverse range of genres, include EDM, pop, house, bass and four-on-the-floor music.

Illenium and Kaskade headline Friday, joined by ACRAZE, GUDFELLA, Ian Asher, Matroda, Night Tales, Ravenscoon, ROSSY and Said the Sky.

Saturday’s headliners are Zedd and SOFI TUKKER, with performances by ALLEYCVT, Crankdat, Deerock, Dion Timmer, Calcium, it’s murph, Moore Kismet, Sara Benyo, TroyBoi and ZUEZEU.

Three local DJs will be heading from the Ritz Ybor to the stage at Breakaway: Pushman, Myr and Taylorlace. Over twenty other local artists will perform at the silent disco.

Purchase tickets to Breakaway Music Festival and official after parties

Available tickets from range from a $65 for a single-day pass to $1,049 for 2-Day Ultra VIP ticket, which includes access to a viewing platform on the side of the main stage, drink and merch vouchers and access to a guest lounge. Some ticket packages include hotel stays, shuttle services and local discounts. Visit breakawayfestival.com/tampa to learn more and purchase tickets.

The Ritz Ybor will be hosting the official Breakaway after parties starting at 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Matroda, Taylorlace and Pushman will appear Friday, with Crankdat, Myr and Wilco Beats performing Saturday. Purchase tickets ($25) and reserve VIP tables ($150) at www.theritzybor.com .

Both Breakaway Music Festival and the official after parties are 18+.

Weather this weekend

Breakaway Music Festival takes place outside, so pack sunscreen and make sure to visit the on-site water stations. The forecast calls for highs in the upper 80s and lows in the upper 60s. Rain is unlikely to occur in Tampa on Friday or Saturday.

The festival is a rain or shine event. Should severe weather interrupt the festivities, refunds will not be given. Updates will be announced at the festival and on social media.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Togo Travel Highlights

toggo tour fest

Lomé and the Coastal Region

Lomé, the capital city, is one of Africa's liveliest cities with its massive golden sand beaches, big open-air markets, street vendors, and a busy nightlife. Lake Togo offers relaxing and nautical activities. Togoville, located on the lake's shores, is a mystical village where the locals worship idols, and voodoo priests perform traditional ceremonies.

In Agbodrafo, between the lake and the ocean, you can visit the infamous Wood Home, where slave traders used to hide captives.

Aneho, the old colonial capital, is located at the mouth of Mono River. It is a great stop to explore the river's rich flora and fauna and admire old colonial houses.

The Plateaux Region

Kpalimé is an easy-going town surrounded by Mount Agou and Mount Kloto, which are covered by fruit and vegetable plantations as well as forests hiding beautiful waterfalls. The area is attractive for nature lovers and hikers. It is also known for its artisans who work on wood as well as calabash and create batik paintings.

The geographic position of Atakpame, further north, make the city a commercial crossroads. The town is famous for its impressive stilt walkers. Next to Badou, in the west, you can hike to the 80 m high Aklowa waterfall, one of the highest in the region.

toggo tour fest

The Central Region

The region is ethnically very diverse and culturally rich. Traditional dances, like the fire dance, and weavers are some of the attractions of the area. The dominant religion is Islam, which influences the way the locals dress in boubous and colorful veils.

Fazao-Malfakassa National Park, located in the center of the country, near Sokode, the second largest city of the country, is blessed with a protected forest comprising rare biodiversity and rocky hills. The park is also home to many species of birds and mammals.

The Northern Region

In the north, in Koutammakou , designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Batammariba people live in traditional mud houses that resemble miniature castles. These houses are an exceptional example of traditional African architecture, similar to those of the nearby Somba people of Benin. This should be a highlight of any Togo travel.

In the extreme north of the country, savannah is the dominant landscape. Close to Dapaong, the Nok and Maprong caves and granaries, where villagers used to hide to protect themselves from dangers, are a must-see. The nearby cave paintings of Namoudjoga are proof that the region was inhabited for thousands of years.

Peleggi will also lead Tchaikovsky’s Francesca da Rimini and Respighi’s Pines of Rome. ● August 4 – Music director, conductor, and arranger Kevin Stites explores the music of legendary performer and film composer Henry Mancini for the annual Gala Benefit Evening. Curated and hosted by actor Rob Lindley, “Mancini at 100: The Music of Henry Mancini, from the big screen, to the small screen, to the stage and beyond” features Broadway vocalists Jessie Mueller* (Waitress, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), Norm Lewis* 3 (The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables), and Karen Mason* (Sunset Boulevard), with all three making their Ravinia and CSO debuts. ● August 9 & 11 – The CSO delves into operatic repertory as a semi-staging of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Idomeneo is conducted by Los Angeles Opera (and former Ravinia) Music Director James Conlon in the Martin Theatre. The work, set in Crete in 1200 BCE and telling a story from the Trojan War, shines light on a talented group of singers. Starring are tenor Matthew Polenzani as Greek king Idomeneo, soprano Andrea Carroll* as princess Ilia, and soprano Alexandria Shiner* as princess Elettra. ● August 10 – Conlon will lead an all-Mozart program with the CSO in the festival’s Pavilion between the opera performances. The program will feature both of the composer’s G-minor symphonies—the “little” No. 25, K. 183, and the “great” No. 40, K. 550—along with the Violin Concerto No. 5, welcoming James Ehnes as soloist on the violin. ● August 18 – Conductor Jonathan Rush, a frequent Ravinia guest in recent seasons and former assistant to Alsop, returns to the CSO podium. Chicago native Rachel Barton Pine takes the stage with Rush and the orchestra as the soloist for José White Lafitte’s Violin Concerto and Niccolò Paganini’s La Campanella

Billie Eilish is dropping into Fortnite.

The Grammy and Oscar-winning recording artist has become a playable character for Fortnite Festival, a rhythm-based music game not unlike Rock Band. Eilish, 22, announced her imminent arrival to the virtual game's main stage in a post Monday on X that included a picture of her character in the game.

After teasing the partnership, Epic Games, the developer behind the massively popular online video game best known for its Battle Royale mode, released more details Tuesday.

Here's what to know about Eilish's role in the Fortnite Festival.

What is the Fortnite Festival?

Epic Games worked with Rock Band developer  Harmonix to add a musical mode called Fortnite Festival to the in-game experience in 2023.

Eilish is just the latest among a slate of stars, including Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and The Weeknd , who have since graced the game's virtual main stage. Similar to Rock Band, the game mode allows players to join with up to three others to play a licensed soundtrack of hits songs and Fortnite originals on instruments of their choice.

If past events are any indication, players can likely expect to play as Eilish on the main stage performing her top hits that may include “ Happier Than Ever ,” “Therefore I Am” and “Oxytocin.”

As players progress through Season 3 of the Fortnite Festival, they can unlock rewards that include instruments, outfits and new songs to perform, according to Epic Games . Among those unlockable rewards is Eilish's neon green character skin and two Eilish-themed Instruments – a keytar and a microphone.

Season 3 ends June 13.

Billie Eilish's big year, from Oscar win to new album

Eilish has earned no shortage of accolades and awards ever since she burst into the music scene in 2019 with her debut album "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?"

The singer/songwriter has racked up nine Grammy wins and two Oscars, the latest of which came in March when she and her brother Finneas' melancholy ballad from the "Barbie" movie, "What Was I Made For?" won best original song.

Eilish has also revealed that her third album – and first since 2021's Grammy-nominated "Happier Than Ever" – is on the way. "Hit Me Hard and Soft" will arrive May 17 .
