The New Orleans Steamboat Company is no newcomer to the Mississippi River or American's steamboat heritage.  Our parent company has been operating steamboats longer than any company in the world.  In fact, we've been part of the history of steam transport since 1817, just five years after the first steamboat docked in New Orleans. We're now in our fourth decade of life on the Mississippi.  We've given literally millions of people the experience of one of our country's oldest and richest traditions.

Things to Do: New Orleans Riverboat

A ride on the mississippi offers great views and a relaxing time.

Natchez Steamboat

Mark Twain said that the Mississippi River was a wonderful book with a new story to tell every day. Mississippi, a Chippewa Indian word that means “large river” is the life force that has shaped New Orleans history forever, defining and literally shaping the city into its famous Crescent outline. The best way to see what Mark Twain was talking about is to take a paddleboat tour along the hard working river, and travel back to the days when steam-driven river paddle wheelers were the main source of both transportation and commerce. Boat tours leave regularly from the riverfront area adjacent to Woldenberg Park, some offering music and meals, all offering cocktails and narration. So hop aboard one of these.

The Premier Pontoon Tour In New Orleans

Coming down to New Orleans for the spring? The locals would tell any tourist that they should see the swamps that thrive in Louisiana. And anyone who knows swamps know that the type of boat you use matters! The Adventures of Jean Lafitte just so happens to use pontoon boats on our swamp tours. Of all the boats and tours out there, why should you decide to go on a pontoon tour in New Orleans?

What We Offer

The Adventures of Jean Lafitte provides pontoon tours in New Orleans , but what does that mean? Because our guest’s parties can really range in size, we have two sizes of boats available. Our smaller boat is faster and fits smaller parties. On the other hand, our larger boat is much slower and fits much larger parties of people.

If you’re staying in a hotel within the city of New Orleans, we offer hotel pickup! Please be ready to leave an hour and a half before your scheduled pontoon tour time. Our drivers have a short window to pick up everybody. So, it’s helpful to be waiting outside your pickup location.

Our tours themselves last around an hour and a half on the water. Once you drift through the Bayou Barataria, you’ll be able to see creatures and flora of all shapes and sizes. On our tours, you’ll be likely to see:

  • Spanish Moss

There’s enough space on our pontoon to have a bag, stretch your legs, and comfortably see the sights and sounds of the swamp.

How Do Pontoon Boats Work?

In the boating world, pontoon boats are at a height of popularity. That being said, how exactly do they work? A straightforward name, pontoon boats rely on pontoons to float on the water.

Pontoons are devices that take on various shapes. These cause the boat to be able to float on the water while carrying large amounts of weight. Because the pontoons are located on the sides and under boats, the topside deck has tons of space! Once on the boat feel free to walk around when we’re stationary to see the sights and sounds of the bayou!

What Time of Day is Best For an Airboat Tour in New Orleans?

If you want to glimpse animal life, obviously daytime tour times are better than night. It really depends on what you are wanting to see – but all tours boast of being able to see creatures at all times during daylight. If you’re really wanting to glimpse alligators specifically, dawn or dusk is best.

A day trip in November with cooler fall temperatures makes for a memorable experience in New Orleans.

How Much Do Airboat Rides Cost in New Orleans?

They vary depending on tour length, what’s included in the private tour, and sometimes the tour company. From what we’ve seen, they tend to vary from about $35/person to $150/person.

Do You Tip Airboat Tours?

It is suggested that if your knowledgeable guide/captain gives you good service, you tip them anywhere from 10-20% of the cost of the New Orleans airboat tour price. It’s a kind courtesy to those who really give a great experience.

What Are Other Things To Do Than Airboat Tours That Are Worth Visiting in New Orleans?

There are many other exciting things to do in New Orleans other than airboat tours. We have done many exciting things in New Orleans, such as cemetery tours, riding the Creole Queen or Steamboat Natchez, and exploring the French Quarter.

Conclusion: Best Airboat Tours in New Orleans

If you’re in New Orleans, an airboat or swamp boat tour should be at the top of your list. Our children absolutely love anything we do, including water, animals, and boats. This covers all three! Airboat tours are definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
