Maruti Suzuki has launched the new Dzire Tour S for the fleet market in India. Prices for the compact sedan start from Rs 6.51 lakh for the Std(O) petrol variant and go up to Rs 7.36 lakh for the Std(O) CNG variant. The new Tour S replaces the outgoing model that was based on the second-gen Dzire and joins the Ertiga (Tour M) and the WagonR (Tour H3) models. All three models are sold via Maruti Suzuki's Arena and commercial dealerships.
- New Tour S based on the third-gen Dzire
- Gets safety features like dual airbags, ABS and ESP
- Claimed CNG fuel efficiency is 32.12km/kg
The new Tour S, being based on the third-gen Dzire , will help Maruti with better economies of scale, unlike before when two generations of the car were sold together. Here is the detailed price table for the new Dzire Tour S:
New Maruti Suzuki Dzire Tour S: exterior design, features
The new Tour S is available with three colour options – Arctic White, Midnight Black and Silky Silver. The new Tour S remains identical in terms of design to the current Dzire, albeit with some key differences such as the steel wheels, black door handles and mirror caps, and the ‘Tour S’ badging on the tailgate.
In terms of equipment, the new Tour S gets LED tail-lights, manual air conditioning and speed-sensitive door locks. The compact sedan also gets safety features like Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), dual airbags and ISOFIX seat anchorages.
New Maruti Suzuki Dzire Tour S: powertrain
The new Dzire Tour S is powered by the 1.2-litre K Series engine that puts out 90hp and 113Nm of peak torque in petrol mode. However, that dips to 77hp and 98.5Nm of torque when switched to CNG mode. Maruti claims that the petrol-powered Dzire Tour S offers a claimed fuel economy figure of 23.15kpl, whereas the CNG-powered version offers 32.12km/kg. According to the brand, the new Tour S CNG is 21 percent more efficient than the outgoing model.
New Maruti Suzuki Dzire Tour S: rivals
The new Dzire Tour S is the only ICE-powered fleet vehicle on sale as Hyundai no longer sells the fleet version of the old Xcent or the current Aura. It's only other competition is the Tata Xpres T EV, the fleet-only counterpart of the Tigor EV .
Maruti Suzuki Dzire for private buyers
The Dzire compact sedan for private buyers is available in four trims – LXI, VXI, ZXI and ZXi+ – and currently retails for Rs 6.44 lakh-9.31 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Dzire rivals other compact sedans like the recently facelifted Hyundai Aura (Rs 6.30 lakh-8.87 lakh), Honda Amaze (Rs 6.89 lakh-9.48 lakh) and the Tata Tigor (Rs 6.20-8.90 lakh) in the market.

Maruti Suzuki eVX Production To Begin In India In Early 2025
The production of the Maruti Suzuki eVX is expected to commence in India in early 2025 and it could use a 60 kWh battery pack
Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading automobile manufacturer, displayed the eVX concept at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. This concept vehicle first made its international debut at the 2023 Auto Expo, and a more close-to-production version was introduced at the Japan Mobility Show later that year. Maruti Suzuki is actively conducting tests with eVX prototypes as it prepares for the launch, scheduled for next year.
The latest spy pictures shared online have provided insights into the key features of Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming midsize electric SUV. The eVX will join a competitive field, contending with the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv and Citroën Basalt EV along with Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV and others. The interior will see a notable shift in design compared to the current lineup of Maruti Suzuki models.
The interior of the Maruti eVX will feature a floating touchscreen infotainment system, likely measuring between 10 to 12 inches and a digital instrument console. Additional features expected include a heads-up display, wireless smartphone charging, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, and power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats.
The eVX will also sport a new two-spoke steering wheel, a single-pane sunroof, a 360-degree camera system, ADAS tech, connected features, cooled glovebox, an all-LED lighting system, an auto-dimming interior rearview mirror, chrome-finished interior door handles, six airbags and a rotary drive mode selector, among other amenities.
The Maruti Suzuki eVX is built on a variation of Toyota’s 27PL skateboard architecture and will likely offer two battery pack options: 40 kWh and 60 kWh. The latter is expected to deliver a claimed driving range of up to 550 km on a single charge. The eVX will support fast charging for convenience and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capabilities, allowing it to power other devices. Additionally, the eVX will offer both single and twin electric motor configurations.
The Maruti Suzuki eVX will serve as the basis for a Toyota counterpart, derived from the Urban SUV concept unveiled last year, with a market launch in the second half of 2025. India will be the production hub for the eVX, reflecting Suzuki’s intention to achieve strong sales volumes in developed markets.

Only 1 car in India has ever sold 5 million units, it's not i10, Swift or WagonR
This car has set a record that might not ever be broken.
Listen to Story
- Maruti launched the Alto in 2002
- It has garnered sales of over 5 million units
- Its price now starts at Rs 3.99 lakh
If you think about India's best-selling cars, some models that come to mind are the Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Hyundai i10 (the entire family from i10 to Nios), Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Creta, Mahindra Scorpio or for that matter, the Toyota Innova. However, there is one car that was on the top for a very long period. We are not talking about the Maruti Suzuki 800, which obviously is a legendary car. We are talking about another phenomenon, the Maruti Suzuki Alto.
Do you know that the Maruti Suzuki Alto is the only car in India to have gone past the sales milestone of 5 million units? Launched in 2000, the popular hatchback has clocked sales of nearly 5.06 million units till now.

Tesla announces change of plans to build cheaper electric cars
Tesla announced that it is changing its product plan to introduce cheaper electric cars to be built on its current production lines.
Tesla has been working on its ‘next-generation vehicle platform’ that is expected to enable a new manufacturing process called “unboxed” that should produce cheaper electric vehicles. The automaker has previously talked about two upcoming vehicles on the platform:
- a model cheaper and smaller than Model 3, sometimes being referred as the “$25,000 Tesla” or “Model 2”
- Tesla Robotaxi: a new vehicle designed from the ground-up for self-driving.
A few weeks ago, Reuters reported that “Tesla has canceled the long-promised inexpensive car”. CEO Elon Musk called the publication “liars” for reporting that.
However, Electrek reported last week that Tesla had indeed stopped all work on the new planned cheaper vehicle based on the new platform. Inside sources confirmed that Musk canceled a Gigafactory Texas expansion for the new vehicle codenamed NV9.
Today, with the release of its Q1 2024 financial results, Tesla confirmed the change of plans for its cheaper electric vehicles.
Tesla started by writing:
“We have updated our future vehicle line-up to accelerate the launch of new models ahead of our previously communicated start of production in the second half of 2025.”
Musk had previously announced plans to build next-gen vehicles toward the end of 2025.
Tesla continued:
These new vehicles, including more affordable models, will utilize aspects of the next generation platform as well as aspects of our current platforms, and will be able to be produced on the same manufacturing lines as our current vehicle line-up.
This confirms that more affordable vehicles are still confirmed, but not on the new production lines based on the “unboxed” system, which is in line with our previous report that Musk shut down the expansion for NV9.
Tesla explained the reason behind the change:
This update may result in achieving less cost reduction than previously expected but enables us to prudently grow our vehicle volumes in a more capex efficient manner during uncertain times. This would help us fully utilize our current expected maximum capacity of close to three million vehicles, enabling more than 50% growth over 2023 production before investing in new manufacturing lines.
Finally, Tesla confirmed that its previously announced Robotaxi will still be built with the new “unboxed” system:
Our purpose-built robotaxi product will continue to pursue a revolutionary “unboxed” manufacturing strategy.
Musk previously said that Tesla plans to unveil its new Robotaxi on August 8th.
Electrek’s Take
Some good and some bad news. Without the unboxed system, it’s likely that we can kiss goodbye to the previously mentioned $25,000 price point.

This is good news, and seems smart: Building in current factories using current techniques...Smart. The next best thing to actually having a modular platform. Why reinvent the wheel you actually invented?
Regarding price: $25K was an arbitrary number thrown out some years ago: Anything around 30 will be fine. There will be a synergy with size. In much of the world, Tesla's are large cars. A lot of people prefer, or want smaller cars. Sometimes this equates to low price, but sometimes a nice small car is not cheap. Mainly in the US is "small" automatically equated with cheap.
The comments about the Y and 3 being stale are a little lazy. The Y was the best selling car in the world last year, and the 3 was significantly updated and will do well in the sedan sector. But having just 2 mass market cars is not a good thing, and that in itself seems stale after a few years. So a new small car will be an important change in how Tesla is viewed.
A small car at a fair price will sell very well worldwide. So will a performance version at a higher price. Doing so without revamping manufacturing is smart...finally something smart. And if done in a timely manner, it will really boost the company. This is positive news to me.
Tesla is signaling still cheaper EVs coming, but the automaker has already maxed out a lot of the cost-cutting on the existing platform and manufacturing lines. They will likely be smaller and cheaper, but I doubt they will come close to $25,000.
However, they could come faster on the existing production lines. Tesla is not going as far as confirming that, but it sort of hints at it.
Or it could also be that only the Robotaxi timeline is accelerated.
After all, Musk did announce a sooner-than-expected unveiling of the Robotaxi after canceling the NV9 program.
