Movie Star Home Tours in Hollywood: What You Need to Know

tour movie star homes

 Richard Cummins/Corbis Documentary/Getty Images Plus

It's one of Hollywood's biggest tourist myths, and it's time it was busted. Don't let those cheesy tour companies fool you into thinking you can catch a glimpse of a leading lady walking the dog or a leading man mowing the lawn while you're riding around Hollywood in a big, noisy bus.

This is the simple truth: You are more likely to see an elephant walking down a Hollywood or Beverly Hills street than you are to spot a movie star. And despite what all those tour companies and streetside map sellers want you to think, startlingly few of today's favorite celebs own houses in those areas.

Before you go on a movie star homes tour or go looking for their residences on your own, there are some things you need to know. Read on to find out what they are.

And don't despair; if you want to see a celebrity, you can. Just use this guide to seeing celebrities in Los Angeles .

Where Do Movie Stars Actually Live?

Many of today's Hollywood stars don't live in Hollywood, Beverly Hills, or any of the other neighboring areas. Some of them may live in Malibu or Orange County, and many others have homes thousands of miles from Los Angeles.

The few who do have homes in Hollywood treasure their privacy. They put up fences that a giraffe couldn't peek over and plant hedges so dense a gnat couldn't get through. They want to shield their homes from prying eyes, and you can't really blame them. Who wants some paparazzi, or even a tourist from East Chip taking their picture when they're trying to relax?

To satisfy visitors' curiosity, tour operators and map-makers often highlight the places where a star used to live. In some cases, they just make things up or rely on unsubstantiated "facts" that are anything but accurate. One of the outrageous claims they make is that Beverly Hills' fire hydrants are platinum-plated. They might think that their guests are so gullible that they won't wonder why someone hasn't pulled them up in order to get the precious metal.

Maps to Hollywood Movie Star Homes

On Hollywood Boulevard, in Beverly Hills, in Brentwood, and on Sunset Strip, you'll find dozens of streetside vendors hawking maps that claim to show you where movie stars live, their hand-lettered signs boasting "Maps to the Stars Homes."

You may be tempted to buy one of these maps and run around Beverly Hills, sticking your camera out the car window. But be advised, their information is more than likely woefully out of date, if it was ever accurate, to begin with.

If you enjoy poking fun at yourself and others, here's something you can do instead, and you don't have to pay a penny for one of those useless maps. Just drive around taking pictures of expensive-looking, beautiful houses and make up a story about who lives there. The folks back home will never know the difference.

Movie Star Homes Tour Companies

If you are unlikely to see a real celebrity home and even less likely to see the stars themselves, most Hollywood movie star tours are a waste of your hard-earned money. Nevertheless, some tourists may ignore that,

Lots of companies offer movie star home tours in Hollywood and Los Angeles. They make claims like "see where the stars actually live" or "tour of all your favorite Hollywood movie star homes." The tour companies don't fare any better than the map-sellers regarding accuracy, and they'll cost you even more.

However, there are a couple of tours that are worth your time:

Beverly Hills Trolley Tour  tells you upfront that they're going to respect current residents' privacy, but they do dish up generous helpings of tales about those who used to live there. They take you on a drive through some of the city's ritziest neighborhoods.

Dearly Departed Tours is run by Scott Michaels, who prides himself on backing up everything with facts. This entertaining tour will take you to lots of interesting spots, celebrities' homes, and locales where the oddest things have happened. Despite what the name might make you think, it's more gossipy than creepy.

Movie Stars' Final Homes

One place that you can be sure a star is really in residence is at their final resting place. Hollywood Forever Cemetery  is chock full of celebs of yesteryear and is happy to help you find their graves. In fact, you can find their locations on a handy map right on their website.

Legendary Forest Lawn also holds the remains of famous people from all eras, but they are less helpful to visitors. You can use the interactive map at Seeing-Stars.com to find them.

Marilyn Monroe's crypt can be found at Westwood Village Memorial Park. You can find it and more Marilyn-related sites in California.

Seeing-Stars.com also has a big list of more celebrity burial sites in the L.A. and Hollywood area, or you can search the extensive list at FindAGrave.com .

Shortly after her producer husband, Richard Halliday died in 1973, Martin began looking for a place in Palm Springs. She wanted to be near her “best” remaining friend, Janet Gaynor. Frank Sinatra Estate – 1148 E. Alejo Road

Frank Sinatra (1915 – 1998) was an American singer and actor. He is one of the world’s best-selling music artists, with an estimated 150 million records sold.

Frank had been coming to Palm Springs in the mid-1940s. He spent so much time here that it was time to buy a home in Palm Springs, so he approached architect E. Stewart Williams to do the job in 1947. Initially, he wanted a classic Georgian-style home with a brick facade and columns. Williams didn’t like the idea and instead designed Sinatra a modern desert-style home, which he liked, and handed over $150,000. The challenge was that he wanted it completed by Christmas to throw a big party. Working around the clock, he had his house to ring in the New Year of 1948.

It is known as Twin Palm Frank Sinatra Estate and is available as a rental property.

INTRODUCTION

As you may know, several notable stars including Jennifer Lawrence, Ellen DeGeneres, and Taylor Swift live in the Beverly Hills area located in the neighborhood of Hollywood Hills.

Of course, celebrities don't all live right next to each other, neither they are available for all days of the year, so it's not easy to find their homes without a bit of guidance.

As a result, several tour companies have made a name for themselves by providing tours of celebrity houses, residences, and filming locations.

However, if you have a car (or bike) you can explore on your own!

Los Angeles is known as a sprawling city and most celebrities live far enough that you will need to use a car to really get to see many of them.

Also, in many cases, the places you visit will no longer be occupied by famous people who once lived there, but they are still historically significant.

Several notable properties are difficult to see from the street, but it's important that you do not stop and hold up traffic while driving through these neighborhoods.

And of course, it is important to be respectful of people's homes and privacy.

To visit where your favorite celebrity lives, our picks for top things to do in LA .

Can you drive by celebrity homes in Beverly Hills?

Beverly Hills houses many famous Hollywood celebs, and you can drive by these celebrities' homes but do not stop. These homes are private property and personal space.

It's also worth noting that in most cases, these houses are either in gated communities or are far enough behind a gate that you won't be able to see them very well.

For the best views, trust a local tour guide.

For disabled persons, you will find collapsible wheelchairs on approximately all these buses following the disabilities act.

These wheelchairs have removable wheels to provide more comfort to the disabled passenger.

Emotional support dogs or any other pet is not allowed. Only service animals as per the California State Law and Americans Disabilities Act are allowed.

If you want to see the handful of locations where the stars live without having to find each spot on your own, consider one of the following options.

While on your way must visit a Beverly Hills hotel, where you have a fair chance of seeing a celebrity.

So book your tour and set a reminder.

Each tour is about 2 hours as per our guesstimate in length and will cost equivalent to or between $40-$50 per person.

Some tours may offer a tier pricing format but others have a fixed rate.

The prices also vary as per the number of guests on your private tour. By private tour, we mean it's your immediate party and you.

SELF-GUIDED BEVERLY HILLS CELEBRITY HOMES TOUR

If you've decided to make your own trip through Beverly Hills, the following information should be pretty handy. This route will take over 2 hours.

We will start at Dean Martin's previous home since it is close to multiple local coffee shops like Alfred's or Kelly's Coffee & Fudge Factory. Grab a snack or beverage before your own guided tour to fuel you!

Use a smartphone to find your way to each address and discover the houses of celebrities both past and present.

Streets in the hills are notorious for twists and turns, so it is best to have a co-pilot helping with directing the driver.

Considering that many of these estates are located near busy streets, you may not be able to stop. Also, be kind.

People do live in most of these homes so be respectful.

2. Boris Karloff (629 Rexford Drive)

Actor Boris Karloff. Image Source: Wikimedia user Wikiwatcher1 on September 1st, 2010.

After purchasing this house for $12 million dollars in 2003, Madonna had it remodeled to include a reported 9 bedrooms and 15 bathrooms.

The property also includes a tennis court, a pool, and a full-sized theatre.

In 2013, she sold this residence for $19.5 million dollars. In 2021, Madonna bought a mansion previously owned by The Weeknd.

Head south toward Sunset and take a right onto Sunset. Turn right onto Foothill.

4. Frank Sinatra (915 Foothill Road)

Just down the road from his buddy Dean's house, you'll find the former property of yet another Rat Pack member.

Like his friend, Frank Sinatra was well known for both acting and singing.

Sinatra secured notable roles in movies like Ocean's 11 and The Manchurian Candidate . He lived at this house from 1982-1998.

Head east toward Foothill and then take a left. Foothill turns slightly right and becomes Doheny then turn left on Loma Vista.

5. Greystone Mansion (905 Loma Vista Drive)

While not a celebrity residence, many celebrities have set foot in this mansion.

Originally built in 1928 in Tudor revival style as a wedding gift from oil tycoon Edward Doheny to his son Ned Doheny and wife Lucy.

This masterpiece had 55 rooms, stables, kennels, a tennis court, a swimming pool, and exquisite English-style gardens.

A tragic fate bestowed on Ned only 4 months after moving into the massive home, however. He was found dead with his friend Hugh Plunkett. It was ruled a murder-suicide though it remains mysterious to this day.

Lucy continued living in this home with her children until 1955. It was then sold and the movie studios started renting it.

Today this mansion is a historic landmark, and museum and is still used for filming.

The building's resume is extensive. The Social Network, The Holiday, Young and the Restless, Spiderman, and Death Becomes Her , to name just a few.

It is Kermit's mansion in The Muppets and it is Chilton Academy in Gilmore Girls.

The film There Will be Blood is actually about Edward Doheny and was also filmed at the mansion!

The property includes a pool, a tennis court, and fantastic views.

In the documentary Bowling for Columbine , filmmaker Michael Moore visited this residence to speak with Mr. Heston regarding his very strong views on gun control in the United States.

Next is a slight left onto Mulholland and then a sharp left onto Franklin Canyon. Now turn right onto Mulholland.

8. Jack Nicholson (12850 Mulholland Drive)

Actor Jack Nicholson. Image Source: Wikimedia user Georges Biard, 2002.

This is probably one of the most disturbing locations you'll visit on your trip through Beverly Hills.

Not only is Jack Nicholson's estate tied to criminal investigations, but the house that once existed here has since burned down, prompting some to describe the land as "cursed."

However you choose to see it, this is certainly one of the most notable sites in Hollywood history.

The next location is literally right next door.

9. Marlon Brando (12900 Mulholland Drive)

Actor Marlon Brando. Image Source: Screenshot from On the Waterfront trailer via IMDb.

Not only did Brando live right next to Jack Nicholson, but he also lived with his neighbor for a short time.

The two were reportedly pretty good friends, likely as a result of living so close together.

Although he had a long and illustrious career, most people remember this actor for his titular role in the beloved film The Godfather .

From here, drive west on Mulholland Drive until you reach Benedict Canyon Drive and turn left.

10. Elton John (1400 Tower Grove Drive)

Musician Elton John. Image Source: Wikimedia user Richard Mushet on July 12th, 2008.

The history of this property is as old as Hollywood itself.

Originally owned by silent film actor John Gilbert, the house would eventually change hands several times.

Eventually, the home would be sold to Elton John in 1977, and he would live there until 1981.

Unfortunately, the original mansion that once existed here has since been demolished due to structural problems.

After taking a look at this estate, keep going south on Benedict Canyon Drive.

11. Bruce Springsteen (1244 Benedict Canyon Drive)

Musician Bruce Springsteen at a music festival. Image Source: Wikimedia user Bill Ebbesen on July 7th, 2012.

Although this estate looks deceptively small from the road, the reality is that it sprawls back quite a bit.

Springsteen has reportedly lived here for quite some time, and there are indications that the property is much larger than it might appear.

With a musical career that spans over 50 years, Springsteen has won several Grammy Awards between the years of 1985-2013.

Turn left on Tower Road to find our next stop.

12. Jay Leno (1151 Tower Road)

Comedian Jay Leno. Image Source: Wikimedia user Lee Stranahan on July 18th, 2008.

According to several records, he has lived on this property since 1987.

The house is equipped with plenty of space for his various automobile projects.

As an avid fan of cars, Leno has been a host of his own show entitled Jay Leno's Garage since 2015.

To find our next location, drive south on Benedict Canyon Drive until you reach Sunset Boulevard. Turn right here and prepare to turn left onto Roxbury Drive.

She lived here with her mother Maureen O'Sullivan, a famous actress who played the role of Jane in several early Tarzan movies.

Mia was the daughter of Maureen and John Farrow, both of whom lived at this estate.

Mia Farrow would go on to make a name for herself with starring roles in films such as Rosemary's Baby and The Purple Rose of Cairo .

The next stop is just down the road.

14. Lucille Ball (1000 Roxbury Drive)

Actress Lucille Ball. Image Source: Wikimedia via the Lever Brothers on August 31st, 1951.

Most people know Lucille for her unforgettable role in the classic sitcom I Love Lucy .

While alive, she made her home in this beautiful modern colonial house.

If you can believe it, Jack Benny lived right next door at the time, and he would sometimes visit them on a whim.

According to some anecdotes, Lucy would personally hand out candy at the front door every Halloween.

You'll find the next destination just down the street.

15. Diane Keaton (1015 Roxbury Drive)

Actress and Filmmaker Diane Keaton. Image Source: Wikimedia user Firooz Zahedi, 2011.

This Spanish-style home was originally owned by Betty Grable, but it would eventually be sold to Diane Keaton.

Being something of a preservationist, Keaton renovated the house to keep it in good condition.

Eventually, even Madonna would own this building at one time. The house has 7 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, and a full-size swimming pool in the backyard.

To reach our next stop, head back to Sunset Boulevard and drive south until you reach Copley Drive.

16. Gene Hackman (9901 Copley Drive)

17. Elvis Presley (144 Monovale Drive)

Musician and Actor Elvis Presley. Image Source: Wikimedia via Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1957.

This was the last Beverly Hills property owned by The King.

This was the home of Lisa Marie Presley when she was born in 1968, and Elvis lived here with his family until 1973.

This house features a lot of windows that provide excellent views of Beverly Hills. In addition to the open floor plan, there is also a nice pool and spa in the backyard.

From here, simply drive north on Monovale Drive until it turns into Carolwood Drive.

18. Rod Stewart (91 Carolwood Drive)

Musician Rod Stewart. Image Source: Wikimedia user Rodstewartonair on July 10th, 1986.

Just north of the country club, you'll find this house on Carolwood Drive.

This is the former residence of famous musician Rod Stewart, who has won multiple awards for his work.

Stewart recorded his Great American Songbook albums at this residence, and he once stated that the song Stardust was the perfect theme for this house.

Keep driving north on Carolwood Drive to find our next destination.

19. Michael Jackson (100 Carolwood Drive)

Musician Michael Jackson. Image Source: Wikimedia user Casta03, 1992.

This is actually the last residence of Michael Jackson before his untimely death.

Jackson was known as The King of Pop, producing several hit records and winning a lot of awards throughout his career.

The house would eventually be sold for $18.1 million in 2012.

Our next location is even further north on Carolwood Drive.

20. Walt Disney (355 Carolwood Drive)

Animator and Filmmaker Walt Disney. Image Source: Wikimedia via New York World-Telegram and the Sun staff photographer: Fisher, Alan. 1938.

Further north on Carolwood Drive, you'll find one of the former residences of Walt Disney.

Although the original house no longer stands, there are signs of his influence all over the place, including a small train that became known as the Carolwood Pacific Railroad.

Originally purchased in 1949, the property would eventually be sold for $74 million in 2014 and transformed into the Kilgour Building.

Once you're done here, make your way back down to Sunset Boulevard. From there, turn onto Charing Cross Road.

21. Hugh Hefner (10236 Charing Cross Rd)

Hugh Hefner at Glamourcon 2010. Image Source: Wikimedia user Toglenn on November 13th, 2010.

You'll find the fabled Playboy Mansion located on the west side of the Los Angeles Country Club.

When Hefner originally purchased the mansion in 1971, he got a pretty good deal for $1.05 million.

This historic building has since been sold to another party after being listed at $200 million.

Indicative of the legend behind this particular location, the rare zoo permit given exclusively to this property transferred hands to its new owner when it was sold.

Learn some fun facts about Hugh Hefner on our Hollywood Tour. Drive west until you find North Beverly Glen Boulevard and go north.

22. Steve Martin (1005 Beverly Glen Blvd)

Actor and Musician Steve Martin. Image Source: Wikimedia via David Shankbone on April 23rd, 2008.

This is just one of the houses owned by Steve Martin.

Although he began his career as a notable comedian in films such as The Jerk and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles , he has since spent most of his time playing the banjo.

As a musician, Martin has won a Grammy and even created his own award – The Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass.

After visiting this location, head south again and make your way back to Sunset. Once there, look for Bel-Air Road and drive north until you reach Copa de Oro Road.

23. Nicolas Cage (363 Copa de Oro Road)

Actor Nicolas Cage. Image Source: Wikimedia user nicolas genin on September 4th, 2009.

The next stop is the home of Nicolas Cage who is an American actor and film director known for The Rock, Con-Air, and more recently Pig.

Watch the 1983 film Valley Girl starring young Nicolas Cage after visiting L.A. for fun shots of Lala Land in the 80s.

Although Cage was the most recent owner of this estate, it was also previously owned by Dean Martin in the 1960s then sold to Sir Tom Jones in 1976.

The red-brick property was designed by Gerald Concord and is affectionately known as the "Pink Palace".

This residence is situated on one of the priciest streets in America called Copa de Oro Road (translates to Cup of Gold in Spanish).

The interior includes polished wood paneling, contributing to the 18th-century country house style that was originally intended by the architect.

Our next stop is right down the road.

24. Cary Grant (10615 Bellagio Road)

Actor Cary Grant. Image Source: Wikimedia user Crisco 1492 on March 5th, 2012.

Here you will find the former residence of Cary Grant, one of Hollywood's most famous stars of yesteryear.

Among other notable roles, Grant is perhaps best known as the leading man in films such as An Affair to Remember and North By Northwest .

Fun fact: his birth name was Archibald Alexander Leach.

When Paramount put him under contract, he was going to change his name to Cary Lockwood - but executives thought it sounded too long and settled on Grant.

Although it's not a particularly large or glitzy house, its proximity to the Bel-Air Country Club makes this a very desirable property.

Keep driving down Bellagio Road until you reach Carcassonne Road. Turn right and keep driving north until you get to Chalon Road. Turn left and drive west to Sarbonne Road.

Turn right here and drive north very shortly until you find Stradella Road on the left.

25. Clint Eastwood (846 Stradella Road)

Clint owns both this estate and the one next door, giving him plenty of space to work with.

This residence was designed by architect Paul McClean and completed in 2014. It has 7 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. Its last sale price was $39,000,000.

From here, it is recommended to stay on Stradella Road until you reach Roscomare Road. Turn left and drive south until you see Chalon Road once again. Keep driving south and turn onto Bellagio Road.

Director Alfred Hitchcock. Image Source: Wikimedia user Dr. Macro on March 29th, 2011.

On the other side of the Bel-Air Country Club, you'll find the former house of beloved director Alfred Hitchcock, who worked on over 50 features in the span of 6 decades.

In addition to directing classic horror films like Psycho and The Birds , Hitchcock was also well known for suspenseful projects like Vertigo and Rear Window .

He was considered the "master of suspense" but also a known practical joker.

Hitchcock also perfected the art of the cameo. He is featured in 39 of his films!

Hitchcock bought this home for $40,000 in 1942 and lived at this residence until his death in 1980. His wife, Alma, died in 1982.

Following World War II, Palm Springs became a popular winter escape for Hollywood royalty and wealthy industrialists from the east coast. Movie industry lore tells us that Hollywood studios contracted their stars to be available within two-hours notice. Palm Springs fulfilled the need for a desirable resort town within a short commute of Los Angeles.

Where the glamorous went, the wealthy followed and they all wanted to look as cool as their neighbours! Custom vacation homes were commissioned from leading architects, complete with the latest gadgets and trendiest designs.

Recently, Palm Springs has seen a resurgence as a new generation of Hollywood elite and influencers embrace the desert destination. Also, the resort town’s outstanding architectural history is being recognised on a broader scale, drawing Mid-Century Modern fans from all over the world with events such as Modernism Week. Should Mid-Century Modern design be right up your alley, also check out my Palm Springs self-guided architecture tour here.

A few important notes before we get started on this Palm Springs celebrity home tour:

  • Former and current celebrity abodes can be found all over Palm Springs. Many of today’s stars keep to gated communities and even some of the older homes are in secure estates (no, you won’t be able to do a drive-by of the Kardashian’s place). Therefore, this tour is confined to publicly accessible streets where you can observe from the sidewalk.
  • I’m sure I don’t have to tell you this, dear reader, but a reminder to be respectful of homeowners and their property. Imagine it is your front yard and treat it accordingly. Let’s NOT be the people who use strangers’ front doors for Instagram photoshoots or trod through their gardens. Just be cool, ok?!
  • The scope for “celebrity homes” in Palm Springs is pretty much endless if you include movie directors, film producers, homes used as movie locations, authors and so on. In the interest of keeping this tour to under a couple of hours in length, I have eliminated out-of-the-way properties and focused on those across the Little Tuscany, Vista Las Palmas, Las Palmas and Movie Colony neighbourhoods where there is a high concentration of A-lister’s abodes. If you have the time and enthusiasm, I have marked some of the additional properties on the map below.
  • Finally, this is a self-drive, skate, ride, cycle tour of about 9.6km (6mi), which would take about 25-30mins to drive without stopping.

Let’s get underway…

Wait, one last thing before we get started. Get yourself this Spotify playlist for a little Palm Springs mood music, featuring the musicians and singers listed below, plus more from the 50s and 60s Hollywood heyday.

Palm Spring celebrity homes self-guided tour

Make your way to our first property at 845 W Chino Canyon Road, one of two properties often associated with Elvis Presley in Palm Springs. The performer recorded nine songs at the residence some refer to as “Graceland West”. The West Chino Canyon home was under Presley’s ownership at the time of his death and four years after his passing, sold to Frankie Valli.

The home was designed by Desert Modernism star-chitect, Albert Frey , in a Spanish Colonial ranch style that he did not employ often. Apparently, Elvis bought the home from Richard “Dick” McDonald, co-founder of the McDonald’s fast-food chain.

Travel east along West Chino Canyon Drive and not far from Elvis’ abode, you’ll find one of several residences Zsa Zsa Gabor is said to have occupied, although she did not own this one. The 4-bedroom home was built in 1968 and may have belonged to Los Angeles interior designer Hamilton Garland.

Kaufmann House is a “celebrity” home on so many levels…The original owner, Edgar J. Kaufmann, was a department store mogul whose other vacation property is the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Fallingwater in Pennsylvania . He commissioned well-known architect Richard Neutra to design this custom desert home—a modernist masterpiece—which he later sold to Barry Manilow.  Whether you realise it or not, you’ve probably seen the uber-famous Poolside Gossip photos taken by Slim Aarons in 1970 by the Kaufmann House pool.

Take a right at N Via Norte and again at W Vista Chino, and the blush house right there on the corner is our next stop. Formerly owned by Jack Benny, entertainer across vaudeville, radio and screen, the 1950s home was re-modelled in the mid-90s. Fortunately, it retains its Mid-Century charm whilst sporting a millennial pink hue.

Follow W Vista Chino has it veers left and take the second left into Camino Norte. On the right hand side you will first pass actor, Alan Ladd’s former home which he shared with his wife, Sue. Ladd was an actor known for his roles in cowboy classics This Gun for Hire and Shane . He also established the Ladd Hardware Store that for many years was located at The Five Hundred building at 500 South Palm Canyon Drive.

Ladd’s Mid-Century Modern home has serious design cred. The Donald Wexler design was featured on the Palm Springs Modernism Week 2019 A Peek Behind the Hedges Tour . In an ugly turn, Ladd was found dead in this home in early 1964 after overdosing on sedatives and alcohol.

Right next door you’ll find number 317—the former home of songstress and actress Dinah Shore and husband, actor George Montgomery. The home design is believed to be the work of famed architect, William Cody who is responsible for a number of stunning Mid-Mod buildings in Palm Springs including the Del Marcos Hotel.

A few steps away on the corner of North Kaweah Rd, let the statues and piano-shaped mailbox lead you to Liberace House aka Piazza di Liberace . This is one of four homes owned by the man who was once the world’s highest-paid pianist, and one of six properties he owned in the broader Coachella Valley. Old neighbours of the performer recalled hearing him play his piano in the evenings, and on Halloween night he would give out silver dollars to trick-or-treaters.

Continue on West Stevens Road and take a left at North Rose Avenue. At number 1326 you’ll find the bungalow once rented by Marilyn Monroe. The 1950s built home has four bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. It was not far from here at Charlie Farrell’s Racquet Club, where Marilyn (still Norma Jean at that stage) was spotted by the pool by talent agent Johnny Hyde.

A few houses down the street, look for Nat “King” Cole’s former vacation home. 1258 North Rose Avenue was also owned by his daughter, Natalie Cole. Unfortunately, you won’t see much here due to the home’s lush front garden and there’s no pink cadillac in the driveway.

Take three consecutive left-hand turns and you’ll find yourself in a short cul-de-sac where the House of Tomorrow aka Elvis Honeymoon Hideaway is located. This home is famous for being a cutting-edge Mid-Century design with the most tech-forward amenities of the day.

It is also where Elvis Presley and wife Priscilla spent most of 1966 as newlyweds. The couple are reported to have thrown lavish parties in the four-bedroom, five-bathroom abode. Its quite the party house, featuring an in-ground pool, tennis court and chef’s kitchen. The House of Tomorrow sold in 2020 for a $2.6 million. For more Elvis abodes, see these things to do in Memphis .

This mid-century home was originally constructed for actor and Rat Pack member Peter Lawford. Apparently, his brother-in-law, President Kennedy, stayed here when he visited Palm Springs. The house can now be rented , starting at $300 per night.

Two houses down from the Lawford-Kennedy Estate is the former home of actress and dancer Cyd Charisse and her actor-husband Tony Martin. The 1957-built residence was last sold in 2020 for $1.535 million.

Another Rat Pack member lived only a few houses down. He bought this home with his second wife Jeanne in the 1960s for $56,000 (the equivalent of about $525,000 today). The couple’s grandchildren were often spotted with a lemonade stand out front. Jeanne got the house when here and Dean divorced. Unfortunately, now it is quite run down.

Take a left into Cam Sur, right down Mission Road and right again into West Via Lola. On the left you’ll see number 515 which once belonged to the actor, Kirk Douglas. Douglas is known for roles in films such as Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Lust for Life and Spartacus , and as the father of actor Michael Douglas. He bought the home at 1069 East Marshall Way in 1955, before purchasing this five-bedroom property designed by Richard Harrison and Donald Wexler.

Spanish colonial home with palm trees in foreground

Continue on West Via Lola and right before it veers left into North Patencio Road, is the 1974-constructed winter escape of actors Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.

A short distance down North Patencia Road left into Hermosa Place. On the left you’ll find Dinah Shore Estate, now owned by Leonardo Dicaprio. The $4500 per night rental is set on 1.3 acres, has six bedrooms, 7.5-bathrooms, a tennis court, pool and grand piano. The home was a 1964 Donald Wexler design noted by mid-century modern architecture enthusiasts.

Directly opposite is a large, Spanish Colonial-style estate built in the 1930s by a Las Vegas businessman. Its most famous resident was Elizabeth Taylor.

Backtrack down Hermosa and turn south onto North Patencio Rd. Turn left into Vine Avenue and again into West Alejo Road. On the left, at the corner of Belardo Road is another Liberace property in a Colonial Spanish style dubbed The Cloisters when it was a boutique hotel in the 60s. This home was purchased by the Grammy-winner in 1967 and remodelled with various themed rooms. The performer is said to have died here in February 1987.

Crossing over Palm Canyon Drive into The Movie Colony estate, our first stop is 1145 E Via Colusa, the address of Frank Sinatra’s Twin Palms Estate. If you could see through the fencing you’d be caught up in the 1947 E. Stewart Williams, Mid-Century design and piano-shaped swimming pool.

You can’t see much of this home once leased by Hedy Lamar, actress and inventor, the azalea-framed pink door is worth a peek.

Just across the street is the home Bob and Delores Hope purchased prior to commissioning their futuristic, John Lautner-designed residence (located in a gated community). The five-bedroom house on El Alameda was built in 1935.

Ranch home with palm trees

Singer, Bing Crosby purchased this home with first wife Dixie Lee and lived there with their four children. The four-bedroom, Spanish Colonial-style home was constructed in 1934.

The aforementioned Kirk Douglas property he owned prior to moving to the Old Las Palmas neighbourhood.

The author of Breakfast at Tiffany’s and In Cold Blood rented and then purchased this home in 1968.

Sometimes called “The Lucy House”, the six-bedroom abode is now rented for events and as a vacation home starting from $876 per night. From the outside, you won’t see much more than a ficus hedge and gate. On the inside, it’s a beautifully restored Spanish Colonial.

Also known as “Las Palomas”, this 1927-built Movie Colony home once belonged to Cary Grant and his wife Betsey Drake. Inspired by Spanish farmhouses, the property features the original royal blue shutters and wood-burning fireplace.

Curiously, Al Jolson owned this property twice in his lifetime. He commissioned the construction of the home with wife Ruby Keeler in the 1930s. After they spent the majority of their time at the El Mirador Hotel, he sold it. Later in the mid-1940s after Jolson had divorced Keeler and remarried, his wife Erie Galbraith coincidently selected the home.

Ladies and gentlemen, that concludes our tour for today. Again, check out some of the purple and orange pins on the map for additional properties outside this route. These include homes along with clubs and restaurants that were known celebrity hangouts, namely:

  • Copley’s Restaurant, located in the guesthouse of Cary Grant’s former estate.
  • Melvyn’s where The Rat Pack liked to party.
  • Willows Historic Palm Springs Inn which has hosted Albert Einstein among other celebrities.
  • The Purple Room, another Rat Pack hangout.

Kathie Lee Gifford has been living her best life since retiring in 2018, and has a beautiful farmhouse to enjoy her downtime in, located in Nashville, Tennessee.

The former Today Show star has given fans a glimpse of the stunning property in a set of new photos posted on Instagram this week to mark Earth Day.

In the pictures, Kathie is seen posing in her stunning backyard, which resembles something from a film.

The outside space has flower beds, neatly lined up trees and shrubs, and acres of land. The idyllic area looked even more spectacular in the pictures thanks to the good weather and clear blue sky.

Kathie was all smiles as she posed outside, dressed in a grey sweatshirt and matching pants, teamed with a wide brimmed hat.

Kathie was devastated when her husband passed away, and in December 2023, she gave a joint interview with her son Cody about the late sportstar, where they opened up about his final days.

Cody reflected on one of their last nights together, saying: "in the span of one minute or two minutes…he had forgotten everything I had just said."

Kathie Lee Gifford is a devoted grandmother

Kathie is currently thought to be single and is enjoying her life as a grandmother post-retirement. The star is still close to her former colleagues at NBC, and recently appeared on Today's Fourth Hour with her daughter Cassidy, to talk about their new show, The Baxters.

Reflecting on her feelings about returning to her former place of work, Kathie said: "It feels good, it's been five years." She then joked to Jenna: "You wanted my job so badly. Hope you're happy now!" before side eyeing her and Hoda as they started laughing.

Cassidy was less than amused by her mom, telling Jenna: "So sorry Jenna," as the mother-of-three replied: "Cassidy's about to die." Jenna had nothing to fear though, as when she asked Kathie if she would ever want to return to her job, she said no.

The star explained: "I have said so often, especially in the days of when I was with Regis [Philbin], we talked for 23 minutes straight without a note. No writers, anything." "And back then, you weren't editing yourself all the time. And that's the trouble with today too, with humor. When you've gotta think about what you're going to say, the fun goes out."

When Hoda asked if she ever edited with her, she teased in response: "I've got some stories on you, baby," joking that it'll all be in the "next book".

In 2021, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour created new interactive exhibits focused on the company’s recent history, unveiling areas dedicated to the DC Comics universe and the “Harry Potter” franchise.

This week, the popular Studio Tour in Burbank is doubling down on its more distant past.

Warner Bros. is now offering a Turner Classic Movies-branded version of its studio tour that will bring guests to previously off-limit areas of the lot, including vintage animation buildings, a mini rose garden and an apartment that once housed James Dean. The 90-minute tram portion of the jaunt — about 30 minutes longer than the studio’s standard tram excursion — will allow guides to go deeper into the history of the studio’s catalog to deliver factoids related to such films as “Casablanca,” “My Fair Lady,” “Rebel Without a Cause,” “Auntie Mame” and many more.

“We’re off the leash,” says Brad Taylor, a 15-year tour guide veteran with Warner Bros., noting that the TCM excursion will include time for guides to chat with visitors about their favorite films.

The TCM hosts are seen on on the Warner Bros. backlot.

“We get to talk to the guests and really hang out with people who have the same passion that we do,” Taylor says. “I find that ‘classics’ guests are less about behind-the-scenes and more, ‘I can’t believe this is where we are.’ It’s just the look on their faces when they realize ‘Casablanca’ filmed here, or James Dean stood right here.”

The launch of the TCM tour arrives during the network’s 30th anniversary and close to 12 months after classic film fans were given a scare. In June, Warner Bros. announced that layoffs would hit TCM, including some of the network’s top executives, prompting concern from prestige directors such as Steven Spielberg, Paul Thomas Anderson and Martin Scorsese. After garnering national attention, key cuts were reversed and Warner Bros. sought to assure fans that TCM would continue to be handled with care.

Fears about TCM’s decline

Long live TCM! Our culture would be worse off without movies on TV

Without Turner Classic Movies and other channels for movies on TV, we’d lose the instructive pleasures of the happy accident, the unexpected discovery.

Aug. 1, 2023

TCM network hosts — Eddie Muller, Jacqueline Stewart, Ben Mankiewicz, Alicia Malone and Dave Karger — recorded new video segments for the outing. The tour will take guests into the lot’s Property House, an area not visited by the standard tour. Here, visitors can get glimpses of materials for a full set, including items for a complete Oval Office setting, but expect guides to highlight vintage items, such as a throne from the Errol Flynn pirate film “Captain Blood.”

Danny Kahn, vice president-general manager of the studio tour, says there have been numerous requests over the years from guests to delve a little deeper into the studio’s animation history. That’s why the TCM tour will for the first time take visitors to an area of the lot once known as “Termite Terrace,” which from 1955 to 1964, says Taylor, housed the animation department, a building with a sloped roof designed to capture sunlight. Animation legend Chuck Jones, says Kahn, had an office in the Termite Terrace area in the 1990s despite Warner’s moving animation production elsewhere.

How the Universal Studios tram tour defined the modern theme park

The most important theme park ride ever created? It may just be the Universal Studios tram tour, which dates to the silent film era. Once primarily a behind-the-scenes tour, the trek has evolved to define the modern theme park.

Aug. 3, 2023

Another unique tour locale is the exterior of the Dean apartment. When Dean resided there during filming of “East of Eden,” it was actually across the street from the lot, the apartment nesting above a pharmacy. But gradual studio expansion has led to the area now being on Warner Bros. property.

“That was an actual drugstore with apartments, and the studio rented it for him,” Kahn says. “I think it was to keep an eye on him and keep him on a short leash.”

The tour will also give tram riders a look at executive life at the studio, allowing them to briefly walk around a rose garden. The manicured spaces once held a tennis court as well as offices and personal screening rooms for the likes of studio mogul Jack Warner, with many of the structures dating to the 1920s. “It’s a really historic area of the lot that hasn’t really changed a lot in all these years,” says Kahn, noting the area is still in use by studio principals. “Jack Warner, when he ran the studio, privatized the first floor. That was a massage parlor that he had beneath his office.”

When: Most days, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Staples of the tour, such as a journey around the backlot city streets, a visit to the “Friends” set and cafe and recent additions highlighting the studio’s modern franchise films are included in the TCM trek, as is a pre-tour reception with beverages and pastries. All told, expect the tour to last about 3½ hours. A tour spokesperson says the first TCM-branded outing is scheduled for Wednesday, with trams expected to depart daily after that date. Adult tickets are $95, but there is a Southern California resident discount available for $75.

“It feels so good to have TCM here,” Kahn says. “People understand that the TCM brand is synonymous with classic film.”

Where was anyone but you filmed.

The romantic comedy Anyone But You stars Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney as a couple who pretend to date for a wedding – where was the movie filmed?

  • "Anyone But You," loosely based on Much Ado About Nothing, was filmed in Australia.
  • The film features fake dating tropes leading to real feelings, filmed in Terrey Hills, Marks Park, and Palm Beach in New South Wales.
  • Iconic scenes at a yacht party in Sydney Harbor, Sydney Opera House, and Sydney Cricket Ground contribute to the rom-com's charm.

Not only are romantic comedies making a comeback, but so are destination ones, including Anyone But You , which was filmed and takes place in Australia. The 2023 rom-com, directed by Will Gluck, is loosely based on William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing (adding to the list of Shakespeare-inspired rom-coms, like 10 Things I Hate About You ). Anyone But You revolves around Glen Powell's Ben and Sydney Sweeney's Bea, a couple whose spark quickly dwindles after first date misunderstandings. But they are reunited when Ben's sister and Bea's sister plan an Australian wedding, where Ben and Bea pretend to date.

Ben and Bea concoct their fake dating plan when their exes — Margaret and Jonathan, respectively — appear in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia for the wedding. Anyone But You 's fake dating trope has been used numerous times in various movies and television shows (but somehow fails to get old), and, as it always goes, Ben and Bea begin to develop feelings for one another. However, drama ensues (of course), and it all takes place in New South Wales, where the entirety of the cast of Anyone But You , including Powell and Sweeney, shot the film.

Terrey Hills

The beach house.

According to an article from The Hollywood Reporter that Anyone But You director Will Gluck wrote, the scenes at the beach house where most characters stayed in the days leading up to the wedding were filmed at an inland home in Terrey Hills. Terrey Hills is a suburb of Northern Sydney located about 15 miles north of Sydney, and the house itself was about an hour's drive from the city. As Gluck pointed out, the production team needed a "really, really big house," so they had to look outside Sydney for the best location for the beach house scenes.

Anyone But You: 12 Rom-Com Easter Eggs & Shakespeare References

The wedding.

Aside from the beach house scenes, one of the other important moments in the R-rated movie Anyone But You is the wedding sequence. Of course, almost the entirety of the 2023 film is leading up to Claudia and Halle's big day, and the cast and crew captured these scenes in Marks Park, Tamarama, Sydney, per Elle . Tamarama is one of Sydney's eastern suburbs, and Marks Park is located on top of a cliff overlooking breathtaking views of Australia's coastline and the Pacific Ocean, making it the perfect location for a wedding.

Beach Scenes

Since the home where the cast and crew of Anyone But You filmed the beach house scenes was inland, production had to find an adequate beach to shoot the beach sequences, and they landed on Palm Beach, a Sydney suburb 15 miles north of the city. According to director Will Gluck, the cast and crew spent 10 days in Palm Beach capturing scenes for Glen Powell and Syndey Sweeney's rom-com box office success . Gluck called Palm Beach "one of the most beautiful places in the world," and it's where Powell, Sweeney, and the director stayed during all of production.

Anyone But You director Will Gluck revealed that the cast and crew would jump in the water and swim in Palm Beach after wrapping filming for the day.

Sydney Sweeney's New Movie Could Not Be More Different From Anyone But You

Sydney harbor, yacht scene.

Before the 2023 romantic comedy's climax (aka the shower scene in Anyone But You and its aftermath), the characters enjoy a yacht party, filmed in Sydney Harbor in Port Jackson. These scenes included Ben and Bea's recreation of an iconic Titanic moment, Bea falling into the water and Ben diving in after her, and the two characters having a heart-to-heart talk on a buoy while waiting for a helicopter to rescue them.

The Sydney Opera House can be spotted numerous times throughout the 2023 rom-com, but its most significant use was during Anyone But You 's ending.

In the Hollywood Reporter article, Will Gluck revealed that the cast and crew spent a week in Sydney Harbor capturing these scenes. However, a shark cage was needed for the shoot because sharks populate the waters. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly , Gluck explained:

"Initially they wouldn't give us permission because [Sydney Harbor] is a huge shark area, and people get hurt by sharks all the time there ... A shark tank is these floating buoys with a cage. It was a little bit scary and strange at three in the morning with our actors swimming into a shark tank, knowing that they're at a place where sharks like to hang out."

Sydney Cricket Ground

Airport scene.

Even though it's a brief sequence, Pete picking Ben and Bea up from the airport in Anyone But You was filmed at a significant location — the Sydney Cricket Ground, a sports stadium in Moore Park, a suburb of Sydney. The scene between Glen Powell, Sydney Sweeney, and Ga-Ta's characters was captured in the lobby of the stadium, which houses cricket, football, and rugby games. So, while the moment in Anyone But You may look like it was shot at an airport, it was actually at the famous Sydney Cricket Ground.

6 Ways Anyone But You 2 Could Work If Glen Powell & Sydney Sweeney Return For A Sequel

Sydney opera house, ending scene.

The Sydney Opera House can be spotted numerous times throughout the 2023 rom-com, but its most significant use was during Anyone But You 's ending . After Claudia and Halle's wedding, Bea retreats to the Sydney Opera House, and Ben chases after her. The couple have their big declaration of love moment before kissing, and the Anyone But You moment is captured in front of the iconic performing arts center in the heart of Sydney.

Anyone But You is available to stream on Netflix.

Anyone But You

Anyone But You is a romantic comedy by director Will Gluck starring Sydney Sweeny and Glen Powell. Sweeny and Powell star as Bea and Ben, two strangers with an incredible first date that goes sour following one incident at the tail end. Thinking the worst is behind them, the two are roped into a destination wedding in Sydney, Australia, where they'll have to pretend to be a couple despite absolutely hating each other.

Owen Wilson Reportedly Told Director He Wouldn't Accept Role in a 'Movie About How O.J. Didn't Do It'

'The Juice' aims to wrap production by October.

Owen Wilson apparently wants to steer clear of any O.J. Simpson film that suggests he’s innocent.

According to the Hollywood Reporter , British director Joshua Newton has been working on a partially finished film called The Juice , formerly known as Nicole and O.J. .

The "satirical thriller," which stars Charlotte Kirk as Nicole Brown Simpson and Boris Kodjoe as O.J. Simpson, explores the idea that the late football player might have been innocent (though he was found innocent in real life). The film has been in production since 2015.

The main plotline follows attorney Douglas McCann, who apparently got caught up in conspiracy theories during Simpson’s 1995 trial for the murders of O.J.’s ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend, Ron Goldman, in Los Angeles.

After struggling to find the right actor for the role, Newton approached Wilson about the opportunity.

“Owen Wilson was perfect for the role,” Newton told THR . “I actually had a meeting with him in Santa Monica. Everybody loved the script. His agent wanted him to do it. We offered him $12 million. But at the end of the lunch, Owen stood up and said, ‘If you think I’m going to take the lead role in a movie about how O.J. didn’t do it, you’ve got to be kidding me.’”

The director told the publication that he found another “spot on” actor for the role but didn’t reveal who that would be.

Newton also mentioned that he hopes to wrap production on The Juice by Oct. 3, the 29th anniversary of Simpson’s not-guilty verdict.

Porn star sophia leone's mom told cops she drank, had suicidal thoughts, porn star sophia leone mom said she had suicidal thoughts ... drank heavily at times.

Sophia Leone 's death remains under investigation -- but we now know a bit more about what was relayed to cops when they found her body ... including the fact her mom said her daughter had been known to have suicidal thoughts.

According to the police report, obtained by TMZ, officers say they were dispatched to Sophia's apartment in Albuquerque, NM on March 1 -- where the caller said they'd found her body in her unit ... noting she was already dead.

When officers arrived, they say Sophia's mother told them she hadn't heard from Sophia in over 24 hours and grew concerned -- and something else of note ... cops say the mom told them her daughter was known to drink.

Unclear if that had anything to do with Sophia's death -- but another tidbit the mom apparently told officers is that Sophia was also known to have suicidal thoughts in the past ... although, again, we don't know if that played a part in her death here.

Frankly, much of the report is heavily redacted -- so it's hard to glean what exactly cops saw as it pertains to the death scene and her body ... but they do note that the family said they were aware she was in the adult film industry, and that they had access to all her cameras.

The cops say that more investigators were brought in to take a look at this, and they even dispatched a homicide unit to check it out as well -- finding her death suspicious.

We asked Albuquerque PD to clarify whether they were investigating this as a homicide -- something they previously told us wasn't the case -- and they reiterated they only consider the death suspicious , and that upon further investigation, they had no reason to believe it was a homicide.

We're told the homicide detective who was initially brought in was present for Sophia's autopsy -- the results for which are still pending -- and at that point, they were assured this wasn't in their wheelhouse ... noting there were no signs of trauma.

For now, Albuquerque PD says they're simply investigating Sophia's death as suspicious ... and say they have no further updates either. She was 26.
