Minis are really cute; whether it’s a toy car, a baby animal, or a doll-sized kitchen set, miniature items have a way of melting my heart every time. My favorite category of all within the “mini” genre is probably a dead-giveaway: makeup. I’ve spent hours in those dangerous check-out lanes of Sephora where exclusively-made miniature skincare, makeup, brushes, and sponges have been placed (brilliantly) for customers awaiting check-out. On several occasions, I’ve gone in for literally only one item, and ended up leaving with dozens of others because of a long check-out line; I just kept finding more of my favorite products in travel sizes.

Because I travel a lot, I dedicate a good amount of time to strategically packing. I usually bring an entire pharmacy with me because I never know what to expect from a foreign country’s drugstores or local shopping, lest I forget something. There’s also nothing worse for me than re-purchasing something I know that I already have at home. If you’re like me and you belong to the COO club (carry-on only), you’ve had your fair share of experiences with an overstuffed bag. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve had to sit on my Rimowa luggage, praying it doesn’t crack, just so that I could zip it into something shaped like an Oreo cookie (the fabric space-expanders spilling out everywhere).

Before I became a travel writer, I was absolutely engrossed in the world of beauty; I practically grew up watching beauty YouTube videos instead of television and learned everything from my makeup artist sister. In fact, one of my first jobs was at Ulta Beauty , where I helped shoppers find the best products, while reading and rereading labels of hundreds of items to learn everything there is to know about this expansive world of makeup, skincare, and hair care.

Now, as an avid traveler, I’ve taken that knowledge to create a fantastic list of beauty items that I refuse to travel without. And at this point, I’ve tried hundreds (if not thousands) of makeup products, skincare items, hair care accessories, and more and have curated a must-have list for looking and feeling my best wherever I go. Whether it’s a cast-free sunscreen or packing a satin pillowcase to keep my skin from breaking out in blackheads and acne when staying at a hotel, these items never leave my suitcase.

And, because I loved sharing all of the beauty intel with shoppers back in my beauty retail days, I’ve put together a list of the best items from Ulta Beauty that are absolutely and undoubtedly worth it. Good Molecules Yerba Mate Wake Up Eye Gel

Good Molecules was still relatively new when I was working at Ulta, but it quickly became a shopper-favorite for its better-for-you-ingredient products at affordable prices. This tiny-yet-potent under-eye gel stays in my travel bag and is formulated with caffeine, peptides, and other skin-friendly ingredients to keep your eyes looking energized (like you just got eight-plus hours of sleep even if you just hopped off an overnight flight) And for just $6, I recommend adding a few to your cart to keep one perpetually in your travel bag and on your everyday makeup counter, too.

Tula Protect + Glow Daily Sunscreen SPF 30

Tula is an editor-approved brand loved for its effective and good-for-you formulas. This particular sunscreen is always first in my toiletry bag because it not only protects my skin, but is also made with glow-boosting ingredients that makes it look great, too. And, as someone who is always looking to cut down on my packing list, I can leave my highlighter at home since this sunscreen creates the same radiant effect. And, as someone with a tan complexion, I don't have to worry about dreaded white cast either since it has a fast-absorbing gel formula.

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum

If you're prone to dryness when traveling, you should incorporate hyaluronic acid into your skincare routine. It not only promotes moisture retention in your skin (hello, plumpness!) but that same hydration can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, and more. I’ve got combination skin that gets dry in the cooler months and oily in the heat, and I use this serum year-round to cater to each concern. This particular one from The Ordinary is the real deal, and at just $9, it's basically begging to be added to your cart.

This French skincare brand is a trusted go-to for Travel + Leisure editors , and it's one of my favorites for its selection of hydrating and nourishing products. I personally love that this travel-friendly moisturizer is formulated with niacinamide because it really locks in hydration and also helps keep my skin balanced without needing to pack extra serums.

E.l.f. Cosmetics Putty Blush

As someone who feels like powder blushes always look blotchy on them, when cream blushes began picking up popularity, I was first in line to try the trend. And, several years later, I'm happy to report that it wasn't just a fad — and that this particular one from E.l.f. Cosmetics is one of the best out there. It’s easy to apply, whether you use your fingers or a brush, and it keeps you looking glowy and rosy all-day long. And at just $7, it's an unbeatable deal.

Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Makeup Setting Spray Travel Size

If your makeup constantly needs an extra boost to go the extra mile, then a setting spray should be in your toiletry bag. It also doesn’t crease, so you don’t need to even powder your under-eyes afterwards. It’s maintained its status as a fan-favorite for years, and for good reason.

St. Tropez Self Tan Express Kit

My favorite travel hack for packing a lighter toiletry bag is self-tanning the night before a trip. I have long loved this kit from St. Tropez for its easy- and quick-to-use applicator that never looks streaky and lasts upwards of a week. When I do this, I don’t have to worry about packing a bronzer because it already gives me a warm, sunkissed glow.

I love the original formula for day-to-day use but, whenever I travel, I always opt for the waterproof version for long-lasting, bleed-free wearing. And trust me, this waterproof mascara is one of the best out there, especially if you're like me and suffer from allergies. This mascara not only stays on, but it doesn’t itch or irritate my eyes, even with 14-plus hours of wear time. My mom is a huge fan, too, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Shark Beauty Air Styling and Drying System

Back in the day, I sold more than 100 of these highly-coveted hair dryer-air styler hybrids, driven by the enthusiastic recommendations from colleagues and customers alike. However, it wasn’t until a few months ago that I got one for myself, which has me wondering how did I last so long without it? My hair tends to frizz, and previous blow dryers often left my hair feeling dry and flat. Ulta Beauty Slumps as CEO Warns of Lackluster First-Quarter Demand, Drags Peers

(Reuters) -Shares of Ulta Beauty tumbled as much as 14.5% on Wednesday after executives flagged a slowdown in demand across categories in the first quarter and stiff competition, weighing on peers elf Beauty, Coty and Estee Lauder.

The beauty retailer now anticipates its total category to increase at a moderate mid single-digit range after years of strong growth.

"What we've seen so far is a slowdown in the total category across price points and segments. That's a bit earlier and a bit bigger than we thought," Ulta Beauty CEO David Kimbell told J.P. Morgan analysts during a fireside chat.

Shares of the company were headed for their worst day since May 26, 2023. Elf Beauty shares fell as much as 12.2%, tracking their worst day since May 2020. Coty and Estee Lauder both dropped about 5%.

"The competitive environment is intense, and we're feeling it particularly in a couple of areas. We lost share in prestige makeup. We've been challenged in haircare," Kimbell said.

Resilient demand for luxury makeup brands such as MAC Cosmetics, Clinique and Anastasia Beverly Hills as well as premium fragrances had lifted sales at Ulta in the last three years.

"We believe the decline in shares reflects uncertainty rather than a more tangible understanding of earnings downside," William Blair analyst Dylan Carden wrote in a note.

Ulta last month forecast annual profit below Wall Street estimates as supply chain costs and increased promotions squeezed its margins. In February, Estee Lauder announced it would cut jobs due to challenges in the Chinese market.

Ulta reiterated on Wednesday its comparable sales target of 4% to 5% growth for the year.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow. Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

6. Novoslobodskaya Metro Station was built in 1952. It has 32 stained glass murals with brass borders.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.

10. Teatralnaya Metro Station (Theatre Metro Station) is located near the Bolshoi Theatre.
