Apple has decided to deprecate their previous extension model for Safari, in favor of what they're calling Safari App Extensions. We have decided as a result that it is infeasible to provide support for Safari going forward. Our user script will still function in Safari, but we will no longer be providing packaged extensions.

To use FrankerFaceZ with Safari, you'll need to install an extension capable of loading user scripts such as Tampermonkey .

Once FrankerFaceZ is installed, remember to refresh all your open Twitch tabs so that it will load.

Release builds are minified, stripped of all console calls, and zipped into a .zip file for distribution, whilst test builds are not minified, to allow for easier debugging.

BROWSER: The browser type you want to build for.

The script will build for all browser types if the browser parameter is not specified.

Installation

Built extensions can be found in the newly-generated build directory. You can side-load the unpacked extension in order to run it in your browser. Please refer to your browser's extension installation guide for details.

If you are using the zip file from github releases :

Chromium Based Browsers: Navigate to chrome://extensions/ , enable developer mode, and drag the zip you downloaded into the window.

Firefox: You must use Firefox Developer Edition since I (Electrolyte) can't sign these releases. Navigate to about:config , at the top, search for xpinstall.signatures.required and change it to false. Then, navigate to about:addons and click Install Add-on from file from the gear at the top right and select the zip file you downloaded.

In the parent directory, run npm run-script test to run all test files found in the test directory.

[FIXED] Twitch Emotes Not Showing – 10 Quick Solutions

As a Twitch streamer, I have spent many hours designing and implementing custom emotes for my channel, and learning about the many ways in which emotes are used in Twitch chat. It allowed me to experience the impact a well-designed emote can have on a community. 

If you’re having trouble seeing Twitch sub emotes, there are a few things you can try to fix the issue. First, check your internet connection. A slow or unreliable connection can cause issues with loading certain emotes. 

If your connection is fine, try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies. If these don’t work, we’ve got more fixes in our article.

Read on to find out what these are and other possible solutions for Twitch emotes not showing on your account to help improve your overall Twitch experience. 

10 Methods to Fix Twitch Emotes Not Showing

1. Check Twitch Servers

Since Twitch is an online service, problems will occur when the Twitch chat server is down. 

You can go to Twitch’s status page to confirm the status since Twitch is likely to inform its users about these issues on platforms like Reddit or Twitter. 

Unfortunately, if there is a server-related issue, there isn’t much you can do other than to wait for their technical team to repair it. However, if the servers are working, you can try one or more of the following methods to enjoy Twitch chat.

2. Refresh Twitch

It is the quickest way of fixing Twitch emotes not showing. This process only takes a couple of seconds and helps you fix the problem effortlessly.

Refreshing Twitch reloads Twitch’s resources. This can help fix the Twitch emotes that are not working. You can reload Twitch using one of the following methods:

• If you are using a web browser, you can click the refresh button next to the URL box, or press the F5 key on your keyboard. 
• For the desktop app, click the refresh button in the upper-left corner of the window.

3. Check Your Network

An unstable or slow network is another reason why Twitch global emotes (or BTTV emotes) may not be working on your device. 

You can discover if this is the case by paying attention to the emote icons. If they are broken or if you can’t see them at all, your internet connection may be the culprit.

Before placing the blame on your internet provider, you can confirm this by running a test on Fast.com and measuring the upload and download bandwidth of your network.

If the results are below average, restart your router to reconnect your device to the internet. Unplug the router and wait a few seconds before you put it back into the outlet. Run another test to see if it solved the problem. If not, reach out to your internet provider to address the issue. 

4. Update Your Browser

An outdated web browser can cause issues with your Twitch experience and may keep you from using its new features. The latest versions of popular browsers typically have features like HTTP/3, WebP, and HTML5 protocols that are coded in Twitch to provide you with the best streaming experience.

You can use the following steps to update your Chrome browser:

• Open Google Chrome
• Click the triple dots at the upper-right corner
• Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Help
• Select About Chrome
• You will be able to see the current version of Google Chrome. In case there is a new version available, click on Update Chrome

Here are the steps to update your Safari browser:

• Open Safari
• Click on the Safari menu in the menu bar
• Select Preferences
• Click the Update tab
• If an update is available, click the Update Now button
• If no updates are available, you are running the latest version of Safari

On the other hand, if you use a Firefox browser, follow these steps:

• Open Firefox
• Click the Menu button in the upper-right corner of the Firefox window
• Select Options from the drop-down menu
• Select the Advanced panel
• Select the Update tab
• Select the appropriate options for how you want Firefox to check for updates
• Click the Check Now button to check for updates
• If an update is available, select the appropriate options to download and install the update

5. Use Another Browser

If your current browser is facing technical issues or isn’t compatible with sub emotes on Twitch, you might face issues with some global emotes. 

You can consider switching using a different browser to see if you experience the same issues. Try out Firefox or Chrome, as they are compatible with most sites.  

6. Disable Your Browser Extensions

A browser extension is a third-party tool that adds more functionality to a web browser. However, some websites may not work adequately due to unsupported browser extensions and cause more harm than good. This is particularly true for extensions that change the layout of Twitch chat or modify its appearance. 

One quick way to test this is to use the Twitch platform in incognito mode, since most extensions are disabled by default during private browsing. If Twitch emotes are still not showing, you can disable the extensions using the following steps for various browsers.

To disable an extension in Firefox , follow these steps:

• Open Firefox and click on the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner of the window. It will open the Firefox menu.
• From the Firefox menu, select Add-ons . This will open the Add-ons Manager in a new tab.
• In the Add-ons Manager, select the Extensions tab. This will display a list of all the extensions installed in Firefox.
• To disable an extension, click on the Disable button next to it. The extension will be disabled and will no longer run in Firefox.
• If you want to completely remove an extension from Firefox, click on the Remove button next to it. This will uninstall the extension and delete it from your computer.

You can also disable all extensions in Firefox at once by clicking on the ‘Disable all’ button at the top of the Add-ons Manager. This can be useful if you're having trouble with a specific extension and want to temporarily disable all your extensions to see if that fixes the problem.

On the other hand, here are the steps to disable extensions on Chrome:

• Open the Chrome browser and click on the three vertical dots in the top-right corner to open the Chrome menu.
• In the Chrome menu, go to More Tools and click on Extensions .
• On the Extensions page, you will see a list of all the extensions currently installed on your Chrome browser. To disable an extension, simply click on the toggle switch next to it to turn it off.
• Once you have disabled the extensions you want, close the Extensions page and continue using the Chrome browser.

Alternatively, you can type chrome://extensions/ in the address bar and press Enter to open the Extensions page directly. This will allow you to quickly access and manage your extensions without having to go through the Chrome menu.

If you’re a Safari user, here’s how you can disable extensions:

• Open the Safari browser
• Click the Safari menu in the top-left corner of your screen
• Select the Extensions tab
• Uncheck the boxes next to the extensions you want to disable
• Close the window. The extensions will be disabled

7. Install Emotes Extension on Your Browser

Many users have experienced Twitch emotes showing as text. This is because those Twitch users have installed emote extensions, such as Better Twitch TV (BTTV) or Frankerfacez (FFZ), to use sub emotes that are not officially provided by Twitch. When other users see these Twitch chat emotes, they can’t see the emote itself, but only the text of the emote. 

This is why you often see your favorite streamers use words like monkaS, POGGERS, Sadge, and catJAM in chat. You will see the actual emotes once you install one of these extensions.

Here’s how you can enable emotes in your chat:

• Search for better twitch TV/BTTV emotes or FFZ emotes and go to their website
• Select Download for Chrome (or change browser, if you are using any other browser)
• You will take to the extension page of Chrome (or the browser of your choice)
• Click Add to Chrome

Once you have installed the extension, refresh the Twitch channel on your browser, and you’ll be ready to go.

8. Reinstall Twitch

If you are using the Twitch application, you can try reinstalling it. This will delete the corrupted files from your system and make sure that you're using the most recent version of Twitch. 

Here’s how you can uninstall and reinstall the Twitch application on Windows: 

• Click the Start button and select the Control Panel , then click on Uninstall a Program
• Find the Twitch app in the program list
• Right-click on the app and click on Uninstall
• Once you delete the app, download the latest version of Twitch from the official website

To uninstall the Twitch app on a Mac, follow these steps:

• Close the Twitch app
• Open the " Applications " folder in Finder
• Find the Twitch app and drag it to the trash
• Empty the trash to complete the uninstallation process

If you have any trouble with these steps, you may need to reset the Twitch app's permissions or delete any associated files. If you are unable to uninstall the app using the above method, try using a third-party uninstaller tool . 

Here’s how Mac users can reinstall Twitch: 

• Open the App Store on your Mac
• Search for Twitch in the Search Bar
• Click on the Twitch app
• Click on the Get button
• Wait for the Download and Installation Process to be complete
• When finished, open the Twitch app from your Applications folder

9. Clear Your Browser Cache and Cookies

This solution may seem like a trivial solution, but sometimes this is all you need to do. Cache and cookies can interfere with your streaming experience when Twitch changes some code or data on their server.

The new data on Twitch clashes with the data stored on the existing cache and cookie, which leads to problems during streaming. So, clearing the cache and cookies may help solve this problem.

Keep in mind that since cache reduces web browser work and internet consumption, deleting cache may slow down your web browser temporarily. After deleting the cookie, you will be logged out from Twitch on your web browser.

Follow these steps to clear your browser cache on Chrome:

• Open Chrome
• At the upper-right corner, click on the triple dots
• Select Settings
• Write ‘’cache’’ in the search bar
• Select Clear browsing data
• Unselect Browser history (or let it remain selected if you want to delete browser history)
• Click on Clear data

If you use a Safari browser, follow these steps:

• Click on the Safari drop-down menu in the top-left corner of the screen
• Click on Preference
• Select the Privacy tab
• Click on the Remove All Website Data button
• Confirm by clicking Remove Now
• Close the Preferences window

Conversely, if you’re a Firefox user, here’s how you can clear it:

• Open Firefox and click on the Menu button (three lines in the upper-right corner)
• Select Preferences or Options from the menu
• Click on the Privacy & Security tab
• Scroll down to Cookies and Site Data and click on Clear Data
• Check the boxes next to Cookies and Site Data and Cached Web Content
• Click Clear to clear the cache and cookies

Great addon, just needs to be updated - since two weeks or so all frankerfacez and 7tv emotes stopped working. Also additional button to clear extension cache would help a lot.

5 Essential Google Chrome Extensions for Twitch Users

If you watch Twitch often, try these handy Chrome extensions to hide annoyances and unlock new features on Twitch.

If you use Twitch to watch streamers play games, chat, or create art, you probably know that the interface isn't perfect. The Twitch web app has added features over the years, but if you're a power user, you're probably interested in more.

Thankfully, you can unlock a lot more functionality on Twitch by using browser extensions. Let's look at the best Chrome extensions that make Twitch even better.

1. BetterTwitchTV

If you only install one Chrome extension for Twitch, make it this. As the name implies, BetterTwitchTV (also known as BetterTTV or BTTV) packs in a bunch of features that improve the Twitch experience.

There are way too many tools to list here, but some of the best features include:

• Automatically claiming bonus Twitch channel points , so you don't have to click the treasure box all the time.
• A more advanced emote menu, along with access to many more Twitch emotes through BTTV.
• Hiding all sorts of clutter from the chat, such as clip embeds and bits.
• The option to show deleted messages.
• Display options to make chat messages more readable, such as preventing hard-to-read name colors.
• Adding highlight keywords, which will play a sound when anyone uses them.
• The option to join chat without showing in the list of active users.

If there are certain channels, games, tags, or categories that you don't ever want to see on the platform, Unwanted Twitch can help. After installing it, you'll see an X icon at the top-right of panels on Twitch's various pages. Click this to add that item to your blocklist and you won't see it around Twitch anymore.

To see what you've hidden, click the extension's icon at the top-right of your browser and hit Manage Blacklist . There, you can see everything you've hidden and click Remove on anything if you changed your mind. It's also possible to add new blocked items here by entering names (separate from blocking people on Twitch manually ).

It's a straightforward extension, but having the ability to totally hide content you aren't interested in will prove useful. You can also export/import your lists to share with friends.

3. NowStreaming

If you want updates on your followed Twitch channels while you're browsing other sites, NowStreaming can help. To get started, open the extension, select the Stream List tab, and hit the Authenticate with Twitch button to sign in with your account. This is required for the extension to work, but it notes that it doesn't modify any data on your Twitch account.

Next, go to the Options tab, type your Twitch username, and click the Import from Twitch box. This will bring your followed channels into the extension, letting you see when they're online using the Steeam List tab. If you like, you can also manually enter the names of Twitch channels you want to track.

Once you've done this, make sure the Enable Notifications box is checked. Now, you'll get an alert when one of your followed channels goes live, and can check the Stream List tab to see who's online at any point.

It's a simple extension, but if you don't want to miss a stream going live, it's a handy way to keep track of live streamers without constantly opening a Twitch window.

4. Twitch Favorites

In a busy stream, it's easy to miss messages from your friends. Twitch Favorites provides a simple way to make messages from the people you care about most stand out. Simply add your favorite Twitch users to the extension, and Twitch Favorites will automatically highlight their messages.

Like most of the other extensions on this list, you'll need to click its icon from the top-right bar to access the options. If you don't see the icon for Twitch Favorites, click the puzzle piece icon to show all extensions. For any extensions you use often, you should click the Pin icon to keep them on the menu bar permanently.

Enter a username to add it to the list, and it will start showing as highlighted in any Twitch chat. Click the Settings gear to open the options page. Here, you can change the default color highlight option, as well as select a specific color for any person on your list.

Twitch Favorites is compatible with other Twitch extensions that also highlight messages, such as BTTV mentioned above. It has a separate highlight color field for those cases.

If you have a lot of Twitch friends with the same-colored username or just don't want to miss anything they say, this is a useful extension to keep around.

5. FrankerFaceZ

We've looked at a couple of Twitch extensions that accomplish one simple function. FrankerFaceZ, or FFZ, is more akin to BetterTwitchTV in that it provides a suite of useful features. It's definitely the most comprehensive Twitch extension around and thus is an essential way to get more out of Twitch .

Access it by clicking the icon at the top-right of Twitch, to the left of your profile icon. Like BTTV, there are too many possibilities with this extension to list exhaustively. Some of them are also aimed at streamers or moderators, so they won't be useful for general viewers.

But you should find some of the below options interesting:

• Hide the Unfollow button so you don't accidentally stop following your favorite channels.
• Automatically open chat when opening an offline channel page, which is useful if you often arrive to streams early.
• Change the appearance of the chat, such as the font.
• Hide certain badges from the chat.
• Add a keyboard shortcut to open the emote menu.
• Show messages in bold when they mention you.
• Adjust the volume of a stream by scrolling your mouse wheel while hovering over it.
• Use an audio compressor to normalize the volume.

FFZ allows you to create multiple profiles, so you can have separate groups of settings for channels where you're a mod, when you're watching streams in a certain category, or similar. There are even add-ons for more features.

In case you like the features of both BTTV and FFZ, you can run them alongside each other. Just make sure that you don't duplicate functions between them!

When making your emote, the following requirements apply. Please read carefully.

Respect Twitch Policies

You should only create emotes that adhere to Twitch’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines . Examples of content prohibited from use in emotes by our Community Guidelines includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Gasm-style emotes (emotes imitating the Kreygasm global emote) are permitted.

• Hateful conduct , such as offensive slurs, symbols, stereotypes, and imagery
• Harassment , such as targeted insults, bullying, and threatening or inciting abuse
• Threats of violence , such as threats against others and threats of suicide
• Obscene content , such as extreme or gratuitous depictions of violence, blood, gore, severe injury, and death
• Sexual content , such as depictions of sexual acts (sex, masturbation), arousal, gestures, aids, and attire
• Nudity , such as depictions and imitations of nude torsos, buttocks, genitals, and anuses
• Illegal drugs , such as depictions or references to illegal drug use, drugs, and drug paraphernalia

In addition to content prohibited by our Community Guidelines , we also prohibit the following from use in emotes:

• Vulgarity , such as obscene or explicit words, phrases, and gestures
• Glorifying or encouraging violations of our Community Guidelines
• Politics , including political phrases, symbols, and figures
• Animations , except as supported by Animated emote and Cheermote submissions
• Flashing or Flickering effects , in animated emotes, that occur more than 3 times within 1 second, including rapidly changing colors

Partners are granted exception to this restriction so long as the letter/character is a key element of their established logo or branding.

• Violations of Twitch Brand Assets Guidelines

The only exceptions to this are Kappa and VoHiYo derivatives, which are authorized for use only under the following limitations:

• Max of two Kappa derivatives per channel.
• VoHiYo derivatives may not use or appear to use original assets.
• Kappa and VoHiYo derivatives are not exempt from any other applicable policies.

Severe abuse of emote submissions, including severe policy violations and repeated submissions of content previously rejected or taken down, may result in a penalty on your account. Such actions may include: removal of content, a strike on the account, and/or suspension of account(s). Read more About Account Suspensions .

Respect the Rights of Others

You should only create emotes for which you have all necessary rights. It’s a violation of our policies to create emotes that include unauthorized uses of another person’s content, brand, image, or other rights. Failing to do so, may expose you to a takedown request or legal liability. Twitch reserves the right to remove such material from Twitch. Examples of content you should not use without permission or other authorization include:

• Assets and content from other Twitch creators and channels.
• Another person’s artwork or photographs.
• Content sourced from other types of media, such as games, movies, and TV shows.
• Another person or organization’s name, logo, and other identifying marks.
• The likeness of another person (such as the face of a celebrity or athlete).

Some Partners and Affiliates create their own emotes, while others hire an artist. No matter who makes the emote, there are some important things to remember when creating your emote:

Standard Emotes

• The image must be in a .png format

• Images must be square shape (e.g., same pixel height and width)
• The file size cannot exceed 1MB
• Please submit your emote with a fully transparent background. If you do not know how to make images transparent, please read this .
• Ensure you have viewed the emote at 100% resolution to check that the art has clear lines and, if you are including words, that the letters are correct and easy to read. Make sure that lines are sharp (no unnecessary blurring or feathering)

Animated Emotes

• The image must be in .gif format
• Depending on whether you wish to use auto-resize or manual upload, you will either need a single square GIF (between 112x112px and 4096x4096px) or 3 GIFs (28x28px, 56x56px, 112x112px)
• GIF images must be square shape (e.g., same pixel height and width)
• 1MB file size max for auto-resize mode. If using manual mode, each of the file sizes cannot exceed 512KB
• The thumbnail for the animated emote will default to the first frame of the GIF. If you want to create a different thumbnail, this can be overridden with a custom static image (same requirements as emotes)
• GIF images cannot be more than 60 frames
• Must not flash or flicker more than 3 times within a 1 second period

Partners in Good Standing and select eligible Affiliates can upload their emotes without manual review by Twitch staff. This means that their emotes are live and available to the community immediately upon upload. This is a benefit that can be revoked if a creator fails to meet one or more of the eligibility criteria outlined below.

• At least 60 calendar days since being partnered.
• A Terms of Service (ToS) or Community Guidelines suspension.
• A Terms of Service (ToS) or Community Guidelines warning, unrelated to emote uploads.

If a Partner receives their first warning for a minor emote related infraction, they will not lose access to instant emote uploads. Any subsequent emote violations will result in loss of access to this benefit.

• Days do not have to be sequential.
• New Affiliates cannot count time prior to being an Affiliate in the 60 unique days.
• Has not received a Terms of Service warning or suspension within the 60 day streaming window.
• Has not received a Community Guidelines warning or suspension within the 60 day streaming window.
• Has not had an emote denied or removed within the rolling 60 day streaming window for one of the reasons listed in our Rules and Guidelines section above.

If your emote is rejected, you should have received an email providing the general reason your emote was not approved.

You may alter your emote so it does not violate our guidelines and resubmit, or submit a different emote altogether. All emotes and their suffixes (the unique code you create during the submission process) must comply with the Emote Guidelines.

Our Emote Guidelines are in place to keep all streamers and viewers safe on Twitch. When an emote is rejected, we let you know the general reason that your emote does not meet our guidelines, and ask you to alter the design accordingly.

Subscriber emotes can be used globally across Twitch, so we apply our guidelines with this in mind. An in-joke, or something that seems innocent in one context can lose the important nuance of your community in the global conversation of Twitch.

If you see any content on Twitch that you believe does not uphold our Emote Guidelines or Community Guidelines, you may report that content or channel by Filing a User Report.

Rejection of your emote does not necessarily mean approval of similar emotes. You may report any content on Twitch that you do not believe upholds our Emote Guidelines or Community Guidelines.

In order to report a subscriber badge or emote, select a reason appropriate for the violation in question and specify the content you wish to report in the description, such as the emote prefix and code for subscriber emotes.
