Horseback trekking is scenic and spectacular  on our  Valencia horse riding adventures . All gear and instruction is supplied on a memorable, sunny ride along country lanes. Our  instructors will lead you on a trot, canter or gallop for one hour. We’ll point out some of the landmarks, the fauna and the flora of this ride in the heart of the Real Spain, this charming part of Valencia’s Mediterranean littoral .

If a bridle wasn’t part of your bridal spree, but you’re still champing at the bit, we supply all the gear.You’ll do it at a canter, and we cater to all abilities and styles, from side-saddle to horse’s arse and dressage to droppings. As for the quality of the horses, you certainly won’t be trotting around on some clapped out old nag!

The Sunshine Tour presents 12 weeks of international competition at the International Tour

This important equestrian event was presented at the Tourism Fair

With the main highlights this year being the unveiling of the largest removable indoor arena in the world, at 90 by 62 meters and, an extra two weeks of competition this January

The ‘Andalucía’ Sunshine Tour, is the equestrian competition based at Dehesa de Montenmedio, located in Vejer de la Frontera.  Today the Sunshine Tour presented this year’s calendar of events at the Madrid International Tourism Fair, FITUR, 2022.  This year’s season will be made up of 12 weeks of important international competition and, this year, the much anticipated, removable covered arena, will be inaugurated.  The new arena further adds to the expansive facilities at the Sunshine Tour and will be used to hold world class jumping events alongside more than 20 other arenas of both geotextile or grass, here at the largest equestrian installations in Europe.

This important equestrian event was presented at the Tourism Fair by the director of the Andalucía Sunshine Tour, Teresa Blázquez; the vice president and councillor for Tourism of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Marín; the Cádiz Tourism delegate, María Jesús Herencia and the president of the Spanish Equestrian Federation, Javier Revuelta.  The top level of competition taking place at the Sunshine Tour was highlighted,  including the facts that there will be 42 FEI Longines Ranking events and also qualifier events for the Junior European Championships. 

During the Sunshine Tour which runs from February 8th to March 27th, more than 700 riders and 2,500 horses, from 50 different countries, will compete at Dehesa Montemedio.  Overall the show will give out more than two million euros in prize money.  In addition to the Tour itself the facilities will host a two week ‘warm up competition’ just beforehand, from January 20th to the 30th, and these preliminary weeks also include four FEI Longines Ranking classes.  There will also be  2* championship classes and Young Horse events. 

This event has been dubbed the ‘Andalucía Pre Sunshine Tour’ and this year there will be around 100 riders participating, from 25 countries, with about 300 horses.  Many famous names will be competing here, including Martin Fuchs from Switzerland who is currently ranked number two in the world;  Swedish rider, Douglas Lindelow;  the American rider, Paris Sellon; the Israeli rider, Dani G. Waldman and the Egyptian rider, Karim El Zoghby.

In addition to all of the above, in October, due to a very successful organisation last year, Montenmedio will once again be the venue for the Spanish Jumping Championships, the categories will be, Absolute, Young Riders, Classic and Young Horses.

As FITUR is a Tourist Fair, the enormous attraction of the Sunshine Tour to tourists was highlighted in the presentation.  8,900 people are accredited for the event and the Tour creates both directly and indirectly 1,200 jobs.  The estimation is that 20,000 overnight stays in hotels are created by the Tour and the average daily spend per person is 256 euros.  This generates 40 million euros in economic impact for the region of La Janda.

The director of the Sunshine Tour, Teresa Blázquez, noted that;  "the Sunshine Tour is a consolidated and long-anticipated event for the world of international equestrian sport.   Thanks to the privileged location of Dehesa Montenmedio, competition can go ahead outdoors in the open air, when in the rest of Europe at this time of year,  this is impossible.  In addition to this it has much to offer the tourist with matchless gastronomical, and cultural experiences”.

For his part, the Vice President of the Junta de Andalucía and Minister of Tourism, Juan Marín, noted that;  “we have signed a three-year sponsorship with the Andalucía Sunshine Tour, so that it forms part of the ‘Andalucía branding’ and continues to be a unique product,  and a benchmark in the world of international equestrian sport.  It is also much more than a sporting event, it is a great social event”.

The new covered arena, which involved an investment of 750,000 euros, will be inaugurated in February and expands and complements the already extensive sports facilities on offer at the Dehesa Montenmedio.  The new covered area will allow competitions to be held comfortably and safely when the weather conditions are unfavourable and will be both versatile and functional thanks to its removable nature.

The arena is 90 meters long by 62 meters in width, giving a clear span area of ​​5,850 meters squared.  It is made up of a two-layered cover that is a PVC-coated polyester textile membrane melded to high-frequency Keder.  The two layers form an air chamber that provides great thermal insulation and better wind resistance.

CYCLE RETREATS TOUR - VALENCIA

The port city of Valencia lies on Spain’s south eastern coast, where the Turia River meets the Mediterranean Sea. It’s known for its City of Arts and Sciences, with futuristic structures including a planetarium, an oceanarium and an interactive museum. Valencia also has several beaches, including some within nearby Albufera Park, a wetlands reserve with a lake and walking trails.

There are various reasons why Valencia is perfect for cycling. The two most obvious are climate and geography. Any place that has over 300 sunny days a year and a lack of extremes of temperature at both ends of the spectrum is a decent place for cycling.

Every day your bags will be moved, and you can choose from 2 guide groups, so you are going at your pace, plus on some days the routes will have extra options for those wanting more climbing. Our bus “Bernard” will be alongside for the journey she will be carrying your day bags and have cycling snacks, nutrition and drinks hot and cold available for you. Lunch will be at hidden away stops and you will have a morning and afternoon snack stop also.

Hotels are small and handpicked by us with home cooked evening meals and accompanying wines. All dietary requirements can be taken care of, as always Cycle Retreats look after everything for you on and off the bike.

Days 3 and 5 are kit wash days so you can get fresh kit and means you don’t have to bring as much with you. You also get the iconic Cycle Retreats Jersey and water bottle. You will be given a day bag so you can access anything you might want to on the bus at designated stops.

When we reach our final destination the Cycle Retreats Hotels we can arrange for sports massage if you require, and we will have a gala dinner in the evening on day 6 to celebrate.

You return trip should be to Alicante airport and our bus will return you to the airport on the morning of day 7 at 8am so you get to the airport for 9am. If you would like to stay on for extra nights after the tour then please let us know and we can arrange this for you, plus your ongoing journey. Remember at Cycle Retreats it is all about cycling done your way!

Your Route Itinerary

Arrival day, bike set up and, explore valencia, distance 82km , elevation gained 1720m.

We start this wonderful trip in the heart of Valencia at the Parque del Museo de las Ciencias. This iconic centre was designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava for leisure and culture and really is a stunning starting point for the tour.  We depart Valencia in a south easterly direction and the hustle and bustle of the big city soon dissipates behind and we are soon in the rolling countryside of Spain. The route takes in some rolling smooth roads and gradual climbs as we head east just south of the beautiful Sierra Martés mountains. The last 20km of the day is predominantly down hill with some lovely descents, a great way to end your first day.

Cortes de Pallas - Xativa

Distance 89km, elevation gained 1750m.

We head out in an easterly direction with great views of the reservoir before turning south across a beautiful national park, you really do feel a million mile from everything, perfect to relax, take in the scenery and just ride your bike. The route takes us through some wonderful Spanish villages before we arrive at our destination of the historical town of Xativa.

Xativa - Bocairent

Distance 82km / 95km, elevation gained 1400/1800m.

We set off in a south westerly direction essentially following a large valley to loop anti clockwise along some very quiet smooth rolling rolls. As we head into the town of Ontinyent there is an option to take a slightly longer route taking in the beautiful climb of Esteve where you are rewarded with fabulous views of the surrounding area. You descend the same way you went up before joining the route south to our evenings destination where we will be staying for 2 nights in the beautiful town of Bocairent located just northwest of the beautiful Sierra Mariola natural park.

Distance 86km/103km

We have 2 options on this day, both the routes take in a very similar route, the longer one just adds in a further southerly loop before re-joining the shorter loop. The route heads of in a southerly direction through the beautiful natural park of the Sierra Mariola which is simply beautiful before continuing in a clockwise loop with some wonderful climbs at very civilised gradients through some beautiful Spanish villages before heading back to Bocairent for our second night at our wonderful retreat.

B ocairent to Jalon

Distance 82km, elevation gained 1100m.

Today we head east back to the home of Cycle Retreats in Xalo. We pass again through the Sierra Mariola national park before heading through the Millena gorge over to Gorga. From there it’s largely down hill all the way back to Xalo on some beautiful local quiet roads 

Distance 90km

Elevation gained 1500m.

Today we finish off the tour with a climb up the iconic Coll de Rates one of the famous climbs of the Marina Alta region before looping back into Xalo for lunch. After lunch we are flexible to your needs and we cycle another loop out tailored to your requirements and depending on how the legs feel, we can go climb some more, or take a more relaxed flatter route to finish of your tour in style.

Purchase conditions

– We do not accept changes or cancellations with less than 24 hours ( except for force majeure such as: cruises that cannot dock, canceled flights or disabling illness with medical proof from the same day of the excursion)

– We will not be held responsible if the clients don’t arrive at the meeting point in reached in time, and we will not reimburse the amounts paid. Even when the direction provided by the client is not correct.

– The tours and excursions have a minimum number of participants of 4 people , if we do not reach the minimum we will offer another day to carry out the activity or we will proceed to reimburse it.

All reserved and paid products may be changed due to force majeure (bad weather, overbooking...), as long as the cancellation is caused by Valencia&Go , the client will receive the full money.

Valencia&Go will not be responsible for errors caused in the client's collection when the email address, telephone number or collection address entered by the Client in the reservation form does not correspond to reality or has been omitted.

The Customer must check that all the purchase data are correct, a once the purchase has been confirmed. If you find an error, you must notify us immediately so that we can make the necessary corrections.
