We had no idea about the complicated and ever-changing eco system of the Everglades. Captain Matt (I think) was hugely knowledgeable, a fabulous communicator and his passion and enthusiasm were contagious. A simply fantastic experience. The trip had everything we had hoped to see - and much more.
We took the 50 minute airboat ride. Fantastic, found out so much about the Everglades and the threats they face. Very eye opening and more needs to be done to preserve this beautiful area of Florida.
I had my 92-year-old aunt, and three young adults in their mid 20's from Italy with me for the airboat tour and swamp buggy tour. We loved it all! Didn't get to see too many alligators but had a great airboat ride and later the swamp buggy ride was informative and unique. We also saw the gator show and walked back to see the tigers and lion. This is the largest Bengal tiger we have ever seen, anywhere, ever! The tiger alone is worth the stop, even if you don't ride the boat or buggy. And it is a naturally occurring white tiger, not a genetically bred tiger. Both our guides were excellent and friendly. Nice gift shop.
Wonderful family visit to Wootens this past weekend. The airboat ride was the highlight, but the alligator show and encounter was definitely a hit with my son. The beautiful Everglades is a sight to see, and the Wootens crew are definitely great hosts.
We along with another adult couple booked the airboat ride through the mangrove. All four of us really enjoyed the trip. We had a great guide who shared information plus let us see a crab trap that had crabs in it. We also saw a very large alligator. The ride was something on my husband's bucket list and he really enjoyed it. Afterward we went to Wooten's animal park and it was not much. The man doing the alligator show was fun but the rest was nothing. We live in St. Louis and have such a great zoo maybe that was part of the problem. However, we went for the airboat ride and would recommend it.
We booked a combo tour that involved a mangrove airboat tour with Captain Jack's and a grassland tour through Wooten's. The Captain Jack's mangrove tour was excellent. I'm not sure if they are owned by the same folks or if it's just a partnership between two companies, but the grassland tour part of the day was a letdown after experiencing the mangrove tour. We were on a much larger boat with quite a few people, and much of the tour involved the guide (a different one than the one we had for the Captain Jack's portion) stopping, shutting off the engine, and floating around for long periods of time while he told stories about growing up in the area and gave us his personal opinion about various subjects, some not at all related to the tour itself. At one point, we sat in the water for a good 20 minutes straight before he finally said it was probably time to get us back to the dock. Others on the tour didn't seem to mind and kept asking more and more questions, but it wasn't very interesting for our two young kids. There was a small area where we got to hold an alligator and watch one of the staff members interact with a much larger alligator, but that was the highlight of the Wooten's portion. I would highly recommend Captain Jack's mangrove tour; just skip the grassland tour through Wooten's. I won't hesitate to do a mangrove tour again if we're ever back in the area!
Thank you for your feedback. We offer combos to provide a variety of experiences through the Everglades ecosystems. Our goal is for guests to have a fun airboat ride as well as learn a lot about the animals and plants of the Everglades. That should not include irrelevant topics however. We're glad you enjoyed the mangrove tour and hope to see you again.

Vacation Guide to Southwest Florida
Wooten’s Everglades Airboat Rides
- January 2, 2022
- Attractions
Wooten’s Everglades Airboat Rides is one of the top guides for tours of the Everglades! Whether you choose to explore via airboat or swamp buggy, or if you’re simply interested in visiting their animal sanctuary and alligator farm, a trip to Wooten’s is definitely something you’ll want to consider adding to your Southwest Florida vacation itinerary.
SWFL is composed of Everglades National Park, Big Cypress National Preserve, and other wilderness areas. Here you will find incredible and unique natural spaces that are home to countless species of animals and plants in a verdant and lush ecosystem. To really appreciate it though, you need a guided tour.
This article will answer the following questions: One, Where is Wooten’s Alligator Farm? Two, what type of tours do they offer on the farm? Three, do I want to ride a Swamp Buggy? (Hint, hint, yes you REALLY do!) And finally, what is there to see in the Animal Sanctuary and Alligator Park?
Let’s take a look at all of the essential details you’ll need to know if you’re thinking about booking a tour with Wooten’s, getting up close and personal with their family of exotic animals, or both.
Where Is Wooten’s Alligator Farm in Florida?
Wooten’s is located in Ochopee, Florida, less than ten minutes away from Everglades City. From Marco Island, Naples, and Fort Myers, the drive takes about thirty minutes, forty-five minutes, and an hour and fifteen minutes, respectively.
Just down the road from the Big Cypress National Preserve Headquarters and the Nathaniel P. Reed Visitor Center, Wooten’s Animal Sanctuary is definitely worth checking out if you’re in the mood for some South Florida wilderness adventuring.
An airboat ride is one of the best ways to experience South Florida’s wilderness and swamps. An airboat is a boat that is used to navigate shallow waters just like those in the Everglades. The water in these swampy areas are too shallow for a standard boat motor with a propeller. So these boats are instead propelled by an aircraft engine (hence the name airboat .)
Wooten’s Everglades Airboat Rides tours come in a number of different varieties, allowing you to choose a tour that best fits your interests, schedule, and wallet.
Wooten’s Grassland Airboat Tours
Lasting about 30 minutes or so, Wooten’s Everglades Grassland Airboat Tours are open to people of all ages. They are also handicap accessible with some limitations.
On this tour, you’ll be able to experience the beauty of the Everglades’ unique grasslands. You’ll get to ride along with experienced captains and escape into more than 250 acres of private grasslands.
While you’re on the tour, you’ll get the chance to learn about the history, plants, and animals of the area. For instance, you may even spot some birds, alligators, and other animals.
For people over the age of eleven, tickets cost $32.50 before taxes and fees for the Grassland Airboat Tour. Children between the ages 4-10 are admitted for $20 a piece. For infants under 3 and under, tickets cost $7. If you book your tickets online, you can gain free admission to Wooten’s Animal Sanctuary. A live alligator show is part of the Sanctuary experience.
Wooten’s Extended Small Airboat Tour
This extended airboat tour lasts nearly an hour and is open to people of all ages. This tour is perfect for people looking for a more personalized experience. This tour gives you a chance to get closer to the ecosystems created by mangroves.
These smaller airboats allow you to explore areas the big boats can’t! If photography is one of your hobbies, this tour offers better opportunities for taking photos. You’ll get to explore more than 250 acres of private grassland area.
Before taxes and fees, the tickets cost $45 for people 11 and up. Finally, it’s $27 for children between four and ten, and $7 for infants under the age of 3.
Wooten’s Everglades Private Airboat Tour
A private Wooten’s Everglades airboat rides tour is a great option if you are part of a larger group. Avoid sharing the boat with other passengers if you reserve a private small boat tour.
This is also a 50 minute tour where you and your small group can learn and explore with an experienced captain. Accommodating parties of up to 10, you’ll have the chance to see the mangrove swamps up close and personal.
For a party of between one and six people, the rates for a private airboat tour start at $300. If you have additional people in your group, it costs $30 for each extra passenger.
Wooten’s Swamp Buggy Rides
What exactly is a swamp buggy? A swamp buggy has an elevated, open platform that can seat up to 20 people. It uses huge tractor tires to travel across both muddy marshes and dry land. Think monster truck in a swamp and you have it!
Looking for a classic Everglades experience? Then, you’ll want to hitch a ride on a swamp buggy at least once. What are the avantages of a swamp buggy? Well it allows you to see better! The Swamp buggys raised platform gives a better view than an airboat. These tours are perfect for slowing down and experiencing the incredible lush cypress forest.
Lastly, a swamp buggy can travel across dry land for some amazing sites.
Along the way, you might get to spot all kinds of different wildlife including alligators, deer, bears, or birds. A Native American campsite and burial ground is one of the attractions while on the tour. Also, as well as educational opportunities to learn about the Everglades from an expert tour guide.
If you join one of these tours between the months of November and April, you might even get to see wild manatees in the aptly named Manatee Pond!
These tours last about 30 minutes and are open to people of all ages. Before taxes and fees, tickets for these tours are $27.50 for people over the age of eleven, $20 for children between the ages 4-10, and $7 for infants 3 and under.
Wooten’s Animal Sanctuary and Alligator Park
While there’s a good chance you’ll see some alligators and other animals, nature doesn’t ever offer guarantees. So, don’t miss the Animal Sanctuary and Alligator Park.
There are many exotic animals, you’ll get to see lions, tigers, turtles, crocodiles, and otters. Oh and they are an alligator park… More than 100 alligators of all ages and sizes are there.
Live alligator shows run every hour between 10 am and 4 pm with the final show of the day starting at 4. During the show, the handlers will offer fascinating alligator trivia and even let you hold an alligator. Don’t forget your camera for this one!
Before taxes and fees, tickets cost $9 for adults over 11, $7 for children between the ages of four and eleven, and $5 for those 3 years old and younger.
Wooten’s Airboat Rides Combo Deals
Wooten’s Everglades Airboat Rides also offers a number of combo deals to help you get the best bang for your buck.
The Original Combo includes a grassland airboat tour, a swamp buggy tour, and free passes to their Animal Sanctuary and Alligator Park complete with a live alligator show.
If you’re hoping to take a longer airboat ride on a smaller boat, you’ll want to check out their Extended Combo option.
For a more private experience, they also offer a Private Combo so you can experience the Everglades without sharing your airboat with other passengers.
For parties of twenty people or more, Wooten’s also offers Group Tours and Field Trips. The Group Tours are perfect for family reunions, weddings, business retreats, or other gatherings, while the Field Trips are specifically designed for students in grades K-12.

This experience far passed my expectations! The airboat ride was so fun and our captain did lots of spinning tricks and drifting in the airboat. He was very informative and spent extra time on our tour to give us the best experience. We saw 3-4 big alligators laying out because it was a chilly day. Swamp buggy ride was a great view. We saw manatees nearby and our guide was very informative and funny. I want to go back!!

We did the Extended Small Airboat Tour, wonderful experience. Informative and spectacular views of the Everglades. Alligator show capped off a great day.
This was my first doing this type of tour and I was excited about it. The tour guide had a nice and friendly personality. I thought the tour would be covering more land but we didn't go far. Overall it was an ok experience specially since it was a last minute reservation. Thank you Wooten's!
Posing in front of the buggy before the tour.
Capt JR gave our airboat tour and he was great! Knowledgeable about the area and the flora / fauna and also funny. My husband cackled like a kid when the boat went fast or drifted turns. Saw a couple wild alligators and learned a lot about the local ecosystem. Wasn't buggy because we were moving quickly. The swamp buggy tour was led by Michael who seemed to really love his job and brought an enthusiasm and knowledge base to his audience that was impressive. I could see how that part might get super buggy on a hot day though. Bring bug spray. Coleman did the alligator show and afterward helped everyone to hold the alligators of their choosing (3 size options). He was hilarious and totally in his element with the gators. Only part I didn't love was the big cats in the sanctuary. I'm sure they are well cared for and loved, but it just seemed depressing and boring for them. The lion lost his longtime mate last year and seemed super sad. The alligator parts were amazing though. And the staff was truly exceptional. Bring extra cash because everyone gets tipped (15% suggested). And there is a gift shop with a variety of reasonably priced items. It was a great experience for our family.

We wanted an awesome everglades airboat experience, and had such a great experience at Wooten's. We drove about 45 minutes from Marco Island into the everglades, and even when the GPS system said we would arrive in 1 minute, we couldn't see anything but swamp around us. But then Wooten's appeared like an everglades mirage. The place looks exactly like you think an old everglades roadside attraction would look. The signs are all weathered and worn by the Florida sunshine and hurricanes. And you may question what you've gotten yourself into, but trust the reviews, as we did. We booked tickets online for the Combo, which starts with a 30 minute airboat tour, then there is a 30-minute Swamp Buggy ride and you can end your experience with a walk through the animal sanctuary (which is mostly filled with gators, as you'd expect) and the alligator show (which lasts 5 minutes but is quite thrilling). Captain Carl on our airboat was quite a character and we LOVED our ride. We opted for the third row since he said the front row would get wet and muddy, which is true. But you kind of get a little wet if you're sitting on the side of the boat. There are ear coverings if you want them, but we didn't need them. Not even 5 minutes into the trip we saw our first alligator in the wild. I actually had a mild anxiety attack as I did think the gator could and would attack the boat, but she didn't. The airboat goes really fast and you get the wind going through your hair as the captain takes you through a complicated maze of mangroves. We saw two other alligators in the wild. One was HUGE, just resting in the water, and the other was actively swimming which was awesome to see how graceful (and terrifying) they are. After the awesomeoness that was the airboat, we crossed the road (it's not busy, but it does seem like a major accident waiting to happen) to the swamp buggy which was an impressive vehicle. But the airboat was so exciting and we saw some cool wildlife, and then the swamp buggy was a slow meandering bug-ridden ride (bring bug spray!) where we mostly just saw trees and an owl. I wonder if there is more wildlife in the dry seasons. Then it was on to the alligator show and the animal sanctuary. The few animals, I won't lie, look a bit sad in their cages. But the gators and crocodiles are well-fed and cared for by the staff, who really do respect these amazing creatures. After the alligator show, you can actually HOLD a baby alligator and get a picture. This was a true highlight of the day. We will be back...but we'll do a longer airboat ride, skip the swamp buggy and definitely hold the baby gators again.
I accidentally booked this location in error. I immediately called and there was nothing they could or would do to help me.
We were on a boat with Captain Robby and he was a master at running that airboat. It was, by far, the funnest airboat ride I've ever been on.
Good experience. Loud so protect your ears especially kids. Captain was very accommodating to those who couldn't handle the rapid turns of the airboat. Arrive at least 1/2 hour before and check out the animal sanctuary this way you'll have enough time for the show when you get back. Try the combo ticket it's including buggy ride (saw tracks), airboat and animal show: sanctuary.
Airboat captain
Amazing trip, I will do it again next year, the private tour was worth it. I learned so much about the area.
The airboat tours in the area all offer similar experiences and pricing. Wootens offered a 30 minute airboat ride that included a walk through the animal sanctuary and a live alligator show. It was in total about an hour and half experience. The airboat tour was fun. Twisty turns, getting wet, seeing a gator, and some history about the area from the guide. The animal sanctuary included seeing more gators and crocs. The best of the experience was watching the live gator show. The host got in "Charlie's" habitat, talked about him (10 foot gator weighing almost 500lbs) and then did dangerous stuff like opening the gators mouth and putting his own chin on top of the gators mouth. All in all a fun time!
