How is it best to be ready for a pick-up for a tour with Arctic Adventures?
This is a great question. We ask all participants to be ready from the start of the pickup time indicated. This is because you may well be the first pick up of the day. Please be at your assigned location at the start time that you chose when booking the tour.
Here you should wait for your guide.
Have your email and phone number listed with us so we can contact you if we run into any trouble finding you.
View our pick-up locations in Reykjavík.
Can I drink alcohol before or during Arctic Adventures tours?
Before and during activities on the multi-day tours consumption of alcohol is prohibited. If we suspect that a participant is intoxicated, we will prohibit them from joining the activity.
After the activities of the day are finished, you are welcome to have a drink and relax.
Do you offer any family friendly tours, for younger children?
Yes, we do. Langjökull Ice Cave is a magical experience, the tour has no minimum age and is a wonderful option for the whole family. Whale Watching with our partner company Elding has been a favourite with families traveling with young children, these guys have a great success rate in seeing whales (upwards of 98% in the summertime).
Another option would be the Landmannalaugar Safari on this tour you get to explore parts of the Icelandic highlands and bathe in natural hot springs. Most of our super jeep tours are also suitable for children over the age of 6 years old. If you would like a nice and relaxing experience we would also recommend the Golden Circle & Secret Lagoon tour .

Your safety is our number one priority! Keeping this in mind, Arctic Adventures reserves the right to adjust the itinerary and/or take different routes depending on conditions. Please read more information in our cancellation policy .
Is there a guide on each Arctic Adventures tour?
Yes, there is a specially trained and certified guide on each of our tours. The only exception to this is for our self-drive tours .
All of our tours are guided in English.
Can the guide advise if I am eligible for rescheduling the tour and/or a refund?
No, for all your questions and concerns you would need to contact our customer service.
What type of power outlets are used in Iceland? Do I need to bring an adapter?
The standard in Iceland is 230V and 50Hz and we use F-type power sockets and plugs, so you might have to bring an adaptor if you are visiting from UK, USA, Canada or other countries using a different voltage, Hz or plugs.
How are the tours rated in terms of difficulty?
Our tours are split into four different categories that help participants to understand what to expect from the tour. The categories are Easy, Moderate, Challenging and Demanding. Each tour is rated making it easier to find tours that suit you.
For further information about the difficulty ratings and descriptions.
How does carbon offsetting work?
We’ve partnered with the Kolviður Fund in a new carbon offsetting program, which passengers can select to participate in at the time of booking.
The Kolviður Fund is the oldest, most respected carbon offsetting program in Iceland. With your support, one tree will be planted in special Kolviður forests in Iceland to carbon offset your tour with us.
Kolviður forests are strategically planted to absorb the maximum amount of CO2 and the forests are protected for a minimum of 60 years. During their lifetime the trees absorb carbon and store it in their root system, trunk, and branches. Trees also prevent soil erosion and maintain storage of carbon in the soil.

Lakagígar 18th Century Eruption
On 8 June 1783, a 25 km (15.5 mi) long fissure of at least 130 vents opened with phreatomagmatic explosions because of the groundwater interacting with the rising basalt magma. During the 8-month period the system was erupting, it is estimated it poured out 42 billion tons (14 km3) of basalt lava, and clouds of poisonous gases and ash led to the death of 50% of Iceland’s livestock and a third of the Icelandic nation died. Furthermore, the eruption in Lakagígar and its aftermath have been linked to some global events.

The guides were all knowledgeable, personable, and passionate to share Iceland with the tourists. I felt safe using this company, and had confidence in all the guides to navigate the roads and keep us all safe and happy!
Natasha Dinsmore
Our guide was very friendly and informative! We had a wonderful time despite some rain and rough weather at the beginning. My partner and I are avid hikers and we thought this would be even more intense/challenging. Wishing there was an even more intense option! :) I definitely recommend you do this on your trip to Iceland!
Thao Nguyen
The glacier hike was the highlight of our trip as we did not see any other options for glacier hike. The ice cave was a bit underwhelming. The tour guide was very knowledgably and took extra measure to make sure our group was safe when walking on ice.
Exploring Natural Wonders with the Best Skaftafell Tours in Iceland
Skaftafell , located in the southeastern part of Iceland, is a mesmerizing natural wonderland that serves as a gateway to some of the country's most breathtaking attractions.
This remote region, nestled within Vatnajokull National Park , offers a wide range of tours and adventures that allow visitors to immerse themselves in the raw beauty of Iceland's wilderness.
One of the most popular activities in Skaftafell is exploring the Vatnajokull glacier, the largest ice cap in Europe. Guided glacier hiking and ice-caving tours are available year-round, providing visitors with the opportunity to traverse the icy landscapes that have been shaped by centuries of glacial activity.
Experienced guides lead groups through crevasses, ice tunnels, and crystal-blue ice caves, offering a unique and otherworldly experience.
Skaftafell is also a haven for hikers, with numerous well-marked trails catering to all skill levels. The most famous of these is the Svartifoss trail, which leads to the stunning Svartifoss waterfall , framed by hexagonal basalt columns.
More experienced hikers can opt for the challenging Morsarjokull Trail, offering unparalleled views of glaciers, mountains, and the vast expanses of the national park.
For those seeking a more adrenaline-pumping adventure, Skaftafell boasts opportunities for ice climbing. Ascending the towering ice walls of the glacier with the assistance of expert guides is an exhilarating experience, and it's suitable for both beginners and experienced climbers.
The summer months in Skaftafell are ideal for exploring the lush vegetation and vibrant flora of the region. Nature enthusiasts can join guided botanical tours to learn about the diverse plant life and ecosystems unique to this area.
Additionally, birdwatching tours provide the chance to spot various bird species that call the national park home.
Skaftafell also serves as an excellent base for exploring other nearby attractions, including the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon , where visitors can take boat tours amidst icebergs, and the nearby Diamond Beach , where ice chunks from the lagoon wash up on the black sand shore.

Glacier Edge Helicopter Tour from Skaftafell
On this stunning 30 minute air tour we explore the many outlet glaciers of Vatnajökull glacier, the largest glacier in Europe. Among its dozens of glacier tongues are Skaftafellsjökull, Skeiðarárjökull and Svínafellsjökull to name but a few.
Upon arrival at Skaftafell Terminal please check in at our reception. You will then meet with your pilot that will go over the flight route and perform a safety briefing before heading out to the helicopter.
Our first destination is our namesake Skaftafellsjökull glacier, taking us into a narrow valley with vivid colors before we climb up the steep glacier edge to Mount Hrútsfjall (1800m). Don’t worry, it’s the aircraft which will be doing the climbing. Next up is Svínafellsjökull glacier, which looks so out of this world that it was fittingly used as the shooting location for an alien ice planet in the 2014 blockbuster Interstellar. From there we continue gliding, freely observing Virkisjökull, Falljökull, Korárjökull and Öræfajökull with a bird’s eye view (yes, “jökull” means “glacier” in case you hadn’t figured that out yet).
On our way back to base we do a lower altitude flight over cliffs, canyons, and waterfalls to round out a truly breathtaking tour. Upon landing back at Skaftafell Terminal, we hope you got the chance to snap some nice photos and get a glimpse of the magical and diverse landscapes the area has to offer.
Please note that this is a helicopter tour with a 4 person minimum passenger requirement for this tour to take place. You can still go ahead and book the tour if you are fewer, and we will do our best to combine you with other bookings.
