Anita Baker Announces First Full Tour Since 1995 to Celebrate 40th Anniversary of 'The Songstress'
"Looking forward to some crazy, lovely, hang time with my fans. Gonna bring some new music & special guests, too," the "Caught Up in the Rapture" performer reportedly wrote in a press release
Some dreams come true — Anita Baker is returning to the road!
On Thursday, the eight-time Grammy winner announced she'll be embarking on a concert tour of North American arena venues next year to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her debut album, The Songstress .
"2023 Coming Straight to YOU [...] This time...With *My Own* catalog," wrote Baker, 64, on Twitter alongside the tour announcement — which arrives just over two months after she finally gained control of her master recordings following a period of time when she did not have ownership of them.
The R&B icon won't be alone on the road, as she said in a press release, per Rolling Stone , "Looking forward to some crazy, lovely, hang time with my fans. Gonna bring some new music & special guests, too."
Kicking off Feb. 11, 2023 at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida, the tour will see Baker perform a total of 15 shows in cities including Atlanta, New Orleans, Chicago, Detroit, Dallas and Los Angeles before wrapping the leg at the Oakland Arena in Oakland, California on Dec. 23 — just in time for her to hopefully perform tracks from her 2005 album Christmas Fantasy .
Tickets for the tour go on sale starting Thursday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. local time, and more information can be found at Baker's Ticketmaster page.
Originally released in 1983, The Songstress launched Baker's career and spawned four singles — "Angel," "You're the Best Thing Yet," "No More Tears" and "Feel the Need" — and reached widespread success once it was reissued via Elektra Records in 1991.
Earlier this year, Baker documented how she was attempting to take back control of her music, as she asked fans to not stream or purchase her songs until she could do so.
"Miraculously... i have out-lived *ALL, of my Artists Contracts They no longer 'Own,' My Name & Likeness. And, by Law...30 yr old, Mstrs are 2B Returned, 2 Me Unfortunately, They're gonna make me Fight 4 it. I'm Prepared, 2 do that. Please Dont advertise/buy them," she wrote in a March tweet .
Weeks later, Baker then discussed her predicament once more in a tweet, where she referenced Taylor Swift's own battle to gain control of her masters. "Her creations bought & sold Again & Again, wouldnt even let her do *A Buy Out*... Taylor Swift *re-recording, her Catalog/Taylor's Version. The GoodFight Go... Gurrrrl," she tweeted at the time.
On Sept. 5, Baker announced she'd regained control of her masters by tweeting a photograph of some of her various albums released over the years alongside the text, "All My Children Are Coming Home [...] Impossible Things Happen ... Every. Single. Day. Gratefully."
The following day, Swift, 31, quote-tweeted the "Sweet Love" singer's post, writing , "What a beautiful moment, CONGRATULATIONS ANITA!!"
The upcoming anniversary concerts will mark Baker's first full tour since 1995, as she's only played one-off shows, residencies and a small series of farewell concerts in the interim.

The tour, which starts on Feb. 11 in Florida and is scheduled to wrap up in California on Dec. 23, also marks the 40th anniversary of Baker’s debut album, The Songstress .
Baker, who played a sold-out residency at the Venetian in Las Vegas in 2021, recently ended a multi-year battle with her former label Elektra Records for ownership of her master recordings and finally gained full rights to her music—including No. 1 hits like “Sweet Love,” “Giving You the Best That I Got,” and “Caught Up in the Rapture”—in September of 2021.
“All my children are coming home,” tweeted Baker on Sept. 3, 2021, along with a photo of her first five albums: The Songstress , The Rapture (1986), Giving You the Best That I Got (1988), Compositions (1990), and Rhythm of Love (1994). “Impossible things happen,” she added, “every, single day.”
At the time, Taylor Swift, who has been re-releasing her first six albums as Taylor’s Version after losing control of the master recordings following the purchase of Big Machine by Scooter Braun, congratulated Baker. “What a beautiful moment,” wrote Swift . “Congratulations Anita!”
In 2004, Baker released her sixth, and most recent album, My Everything, produced by Kenneth “ Babyface ” Edmonds, and recently signed with Rhino Records for the relaunch of her music catalog on streaming services.

R&B icon Anita Baker is bringing her rapturous mezzo-soprano voice to Los Angeles next year.
After a 28-year touring hiatus, Baker announced Thursday that she’ll return with a 15-show trek. Baker — one of the most prized vocalists to emerge in the 1980s — said she’ll make her way to the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles on Dec. 22, 2023.
“2023 Coming Straight to YOU This time...With *My Own* catalog sO Grateful *MiraclesOfMusic* ABXO Special Guest, too,” she tweeted Thursday, referencing her public battle over her master recordings. She also added the tease of “new Music Jan. 2023” in her profile bio.
The tour, dubbed Anita Baker — The Songstress, kicks off in Hollywood, Fla., on Feb. 11 and hits Atlanta; New Orleans, during Mardi Gras celebrations; Newark, N.J.; Belmont Park, N.Y.; Baltimore; Chicago; Detroit; Greensboro, N.C.; Memphis; and Dallas.
The Grammy-winning “Sweet Love” and “Giving You the Best That I Got” singer will play two shows in California at Christmastime: the Crypto.com Arena on Dec. 22 and the Oakland Arena in Oakland on Dec. 23, where she’ll close out the tour.
Ticket sales for the L.A. show begin Monday at 7 a.m. Pacific Time.

Fans young and old were ecstatic about the announcement, celebrating the tour on Twitter and in Baker’s replies.
“Anita Baker’s going back on tour!!!!!!! Auntie Anita is coming back!!!! I repeat — Ms. Anita Denise Baker is sparing us once again with some Grammy award winning ballads for that a—,” tweeted one user.
“Summer 2023 is about Anita Baker ONLY!” tweeted another user.
“slowly morphing into my Mom, wearing a SADE T-Shirt pumping my fist about an ANITA BAKER tour in 2023. LETS GOOOOOOOOOO,” added another.
“I love you Anita!!! I may have to fight an auntie or two, but I’m going to see you again in 2023!” said another tweet.
Baker last played in L.A. in 2019 when she performed a farewell concert series at Staples Center, which was rebranded Crypto.com Arena last year. That collection of shows kicked off in 2018 but wasn’t an official tour. Her last full tour was in 1995, according to Rolling Stone .
Until last year, the 64-year-old star had been embroiled in a battle over her sizable catalog. And she won, notably and publicly thanking Chance the Rapper for helping her regain ownership of her masters from her former label Elektra Records. Baker acknowledged the rapper during a May show at the Venetian in Las Vegas, where she had a limited-run residency. The rapper also called Baker “an inspiration and an icon to so many of us.”
The pop, soul and jazz artist announced on Twitter in September 2021 that “all my children are coming home” because she finally owned the masters for her first five albums: “The Songstress” (1983) — featuring the songs “Angel,” “You’re the Best Thing Yet” and “No More Tears” — “Rapture” (1986), “Giving You the Best That I Got” (1988), “Compositions” (1990) and “Rhythm of Love” (1994).

Taylor Swift, who defiantly wrested back control of her catalog by rerecording her albums , also congratulated Baker on the feat, tweeting at the time, “What a beautiful moment, CONGRATULATIONS ANITA!!”
Baker, dubbed the Queen of the Quiet Storm by fans, was honored with a lifetime achievement award at the BET Awards in 2018. More recently, she was among the prominent women Beyoncé and Madonna saluted with “The Queens Remix” of Bey’s hit single “Break My Soul” in August.
“For the newbies. Lady B, has *Always been Supportive,” Baker tweeted in response to Bey’s name-drop. “Her Cover of *Sweet Love, a few yrs ago?... Energized, My Catalog. And, always makes My Heart Smile.”

I wanted to take some time to post a few of my thoughts about Anita Baker's concert here in Jacksonville, FL on March 14. She kicked off her Farewell Concert Series Tour here in grand style!! Anita has always been at the top of my Mount Rushmore of greatest female singers of all-time! Last night was simply an awesome experience for yours truly! She gave a rousing, energetic 2-hour plus show. She performed many of her classic songs from her legendary career of course. She sounded absolutely fabulous, her beautiful, one of a kind supple alto voice still is flawless!! She gave the sold out arena an all around great performance! She mentioned how much this tour and her fans mean to her and people trust me, she did not disappoint at all!! Anita is the consummate professional, and despite the technical problems from the stage crew, she showed why she is one of the greatest singers ever to grace any stage! There is so much more I want to say with specific details about the show itself. However, I do not want to spoil it for everyone else out there who are still anxiously awaiting to see her on this tour. I certainly recommend definitely to take this opportunity, if you are able, to go see a true living legend on this tour. Anita says this is it, and she will be retired permanently, unless she surprises us all by changing her mind. She likely will not tour again after this current one ends later this year. So, go and shower Anita with love and pin flowers on her now while still this opportunity is at hand! I did on this occasion!! It was my first time seeing her live in concert. It was so awesome folks! This experience will stay with me for the rest of my time on this earth!

Anita Baker delivers one of the best musical performances with her smooth R& B sounds of our generations. It was no different the night I went to see her live the music was outstanding. I appreciated her craft and sound of music even more seeing her in person. Her voice has such clarity and depth and she is immersed into her music as she sings. She also a lovely lady and that clearly showed during her performance. It was a sweet and sultry concert, everyone was dressed in nice casual attire for a night out on the town.
She began singing "Sweet Love" and the crowd went mad as this is a song many know and can relate to. Most people jumped in and started singing the words too. I was excited to see her sing "Rapture" as I really remember that song growing up hearing it all the time. She really engages in the music dancing and singing and it draws the crowd in. The band really plays the instruments and the sounds are so soothing and mesmerizing. This is one show that I really enjoyed and would love to see her again if she does come back to our city.
Longtime dream to see Ms.Baker. always held high upon my list of great female songstress. Number 1 on list. The s bj owns all I could have asked for. Her 2 show at the Orpheum that week, both shows sold out, and she did show out. The band and the singers were great, and was great to see a side of Ms. Baker that you had never seen. She really quite funny and very engaging. Memphis firmly embraced Ms. Anita and she embraced us back. When we first started tracking her tour dates, it started several years ago. She was scheduled to be in NOLA, and we couldn't catch her then because of timing. My baby Sister and I tracked her to the 3 shows in Florida. Seemed all hope was lost. Then showed up in St. Louis, then there were two sold shows in Nashville, then Sister found the 1 show in Memphis on Wednesday night, timing still wasn't right and then Friday opened and we scrambled for tickets and struck gold. We very blessed to be in attendance and was thoroughly entertained! Best show that I had seen in quite some time.
First of all! Words cant explain what we all experienced last night. Her presence along with her crystal clear voice yet soft like a lullaby sent us into another universe along with her backdrop of the natural environment which also made it so relaxing as her voice mixed in with the audiences. Ms.Baker gave her all as she bellowed hit after hit while constantly giving praises to her singers & band. I could have sat in RCMH all night to see her perform. Only wish I had those frontrow seats to reach out with a smile. She made everyones journey home very happy. This was my 3rd show and the best show. Please let her know how much we all still appreciate her and her music, but mostly that "Voice"! Plus the dancing aint too bad also. Ms. Baker will definitely be missed but hopefully she will arise now & then and when she does I'll be right there front row!
As always the show was fantastic. Anita still has the vocals and the showmanship. I just wish this was not her farewell concert. I love her music, and she always commands the audience. Singing along to all of her songs, brings back memories. There is no favorite song because I love all her songs. My cousin and I put in one of her CDs and listened to Anita all the way home and the next day I listened again to all of my favorites. I wish she would do another album (I'm old school) so that's my think process. I love you Anita and will continue to listen to your music always. Best of luck to you!
Oh my God where do I begin Anita Baker was the best I have seen her years ago in Pittsburgh with Luther and she was great then she was good last night I would love to see her again I hope she toured to Pittsburgh but this is her farewell concert and then she is doing her thing she kept saying you know I'm 60 she did a great concert the band was great the theater in Kentucky was so beautiful oh my gosh I would love to go back there to go to that theater at the theater was gorgeous she was gorgeous the band was gorgeous the night was gorgeous I just love Anita Baker I hate to see her go
Great show Anita your I am amazing and beautiful woman I love every song you sing I cannot get enough of your voice I have been listening to you for years since I was a teenager I remember you came to Pittsburgh with Luther that's the first time I ever seen you you were great then and you were great and Kentucky wish I could make every show you your touring but I can't afford it but I am so happy and delighted that I got the chance to go to Kentucky to see you it was great
Not only was Anita Baker's voice as sultry and smooth as it was when she first records these songs... If possible, she was even better.
We've all seen the videos of the audience singing a song entirely on its own. That definitely does happen, but she always sings the song again. So you get a chance to sing and a chance to hear her sing.
It was a wonderful show. I highly recommend.
This was a fabulous fabulous show!! Enjoyed it tremendously! Of course it started late, but all was forgiven when Anita Baker came out and started singing. Even though the crowd sang along with all the songs, her renditions were just different enough to allow you to still hear her sing as well. Great great incredible show! I hope they record one so that I can buy the dvd! Awesome!
I saw Anita Baker in concert many years ago. It was at Lakewood amphitheater. Perfect table, perfect catering, perfect date. It was a concert like no other. Anita and her musicians were so perfectly engaged with each other and the audience. that was more than 20 years ago and it is still my most memorable concert.

It’s “Been So Long” since rhythm and blues singer Anita Baker has traveled to arenas, making fans swoon with her vocals — nearly 28 years, to be exact. Now, the eight-time Grammy winning superstar has announced a special run of live tour dates for 2023.
Anita Baker Thanks Chance the Rapper For Helping Her Regain Ownership of Her Masters
Trending on billboard.
The tour commemorates Baker’s 40 years as an iconic artist in the music game since the release of her debut album, 1983’s The Songstress . The tour dates also mark the first time the Ohio native will be performing her classics live since winning back the right of her masters in 2021 with the help of Chance the Rapper.
After Baker released her first album, she rose to stardom in 1986 with her multiplatinum-selling second album, Rapture , which included the Grammy-winning song “Sweet Love.” In addition to her eight Grammys, Baker received a lifetime achievement award at the 2018 BET Awards. She also has five platinum or multiplatinum albums and one gold album.
Tickets to see Baker are on sale Thursday (Nov. 17) at 10 a.m. on LiveNation.com.

She’s Back! Anita Baker Announces First Full-Fledged North American Tour Since 1995
Queen of Quiet Storm Anita Baker sent her dedicated fans into a royal frenzy Thursday ( November 10 ) when she – after months of teasing – confirmed that she’s set to bring her brigade of R&B classics to a venue near you on a newly-announced North American tour!
Details inside.
After rocking Las Vegas a second time via a top-selling residency earlier this year, Baker teased fans with news she would be bringing the critically acclaimed show to different cities across the continent.
Making good on that promise, the eight-time Grammy Award-winning superstar has announced a special run of live dates for 2023 set to kick off in Hollywood, FL on February 11 . From there, the diva will touch down in major U.S. markets like Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Baltimore, and more before wrapping up the 15-date jaunt in Oakland’s Oakland Arena on December 23 .
The tour will help celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of her debut solo album, 1983’s ‘The Songstress’ (which features the classics ‘ Angel ,’ ‘ You’re the Best Thing Yet ,’ and ‘ No More Tears ‘), and marks the first time the previously-retired songstress has been on a full-fledged tour (not concert series ) since 1995.

IF anita COMES TO PHILADELPHIA SHE WILL SEE people with bookbags on.. that is because of ppl are jealous of a black female who is short like harriet tubman,,, who lost her son.
State farm arena must be a cheaper venue on Tuesdays. People keep having shows there on Tuesday like it isn’t inconvenient
Not Anita baker booking arenas before Nicki lmaooo
This Grandma needs money coz they declined her social welfare hunnie 💅🏾
I’m just gonna assume you’re retarddddedddd. Anita is a LEGEND who owns her masters. Millions upon millions sold. Still relevant and selling out shows nearly 40 years since her debut. The only one who needs welfare is you!
*only JUST got ownership of her masters.
You’re welcome 💋
No one plays her s*** anyways, so.
And still she’s booking (and selling out) arenas and residencies at 64 years old. No new music in almost 20 years. Stick to Taylor Swift stan wars and leave the legends to real music lovers.
Glad to see Ms. Baker doing a tour. The spacing of dates seems odd…perhaps there are more dates to be announced within those gaps.
Never seen her perform so, might book Feb 11 when she’s still strong enuff
You’ll still be in France and can’t afford the air fare, cracker!
