There’s nothing worse than arriving excitedly at your destination to find that your toiletries have spilled all over your suitcase. Or to be the person who holds up the line at security while the TSA agents discard your oversized liquids. Both of these scenarios are easily avoided by investing in a set of appropriately sized, 100 percent leakproof travel toiletry bottles. There are lots of options out there in terms of bottle quantity, size, and design, with the right one for you depending on factors such as how long you’ll be traveling and the complexity of your beauty routine.
To help you narrow down the choices, our team of travel experts put 14 toiletry bottle sets to the test. Each one was scored for ease of use, quality, design, performance, and value, with average scores used to determine the winners of categories ranging from “best budget” to “most durable.”
Final Verdict
How we tested.
- What to Look For
Why Trust TripSavvy
Best overall, liquisnugs premium leak-proof silicone travel bottles.
- Ease of Use 5 /5
- Quality 5 /5
- Design 5 /5
- Performance 5 /5
Very secure, with no leaks during testing
Stick to vertical surfaces
Easy to stay organized
Lack of variety
The LiquiSnugs Premium Silicone Travel Bottles offer flawless performance at a price so reasonable our tester was shocked by it. The set includes two 2-ounce bottles and two 3-ounce bottles, both of which adhere to TSA carry-on regulations. We liked the flexibility afforded by the two different sizes since there are always products we need more and less of on vacation. We were able to easily fit all four in a quart-sized Ziploc bag simultaneously without placing pressure on any of them. All bottles are made of flexible, food-grade, BPA-free silicone, making them easy to pack and dispense.
With a dripless valve and bottleneck design, the bottles are advertised as 100 percent leakproof—a claim we can support, with no spillages even after being dropped and thrown around repeatedly during testing. We liked that the bottles’ wide mouths made them simple to fill, empty, and clean as needed. Other highlights include the suction pad on the back of each bottle (great for attaching them to the bathroom wall) and the changeable labels. Options for the latter include shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, soap, and lotion, enabling you to switch up the uses on each trip.

Best Budget
Vitog travel bottles kit.
- Ease of Use 4 /5
- Performance 4.5 /5
Multiple dispensing methods
Comes with several functional extras
Good value for money
Capacity could be larger
Retailing for half the price of our already affordable overall winner, the Vitog Travel Bottles Kit is a no-brainer for budget-conscious buyers. It includes six 1.4-ounce bottles and two 0.4-ounce bottles. The larger ones consist of two pump bottles with a removable clip to prevent accidental deployment, two spray bottles, and two flip-cap bottles. The smaller ones are miniature cream jars. All eight are made from clear PET plastic, which we found durable yet lightweight enough for travel. We also liked that we could easily see how much product was left.
We appreciated the thoughtful inclusion of a pipette, a funnel, and a spatula to help with decanting products from their original containers. They made the bottles relatively easy to fill, although we did experience some spillage when decanting thick body lotion. Nevertheless, there was no leaking or visible wear and tear after our intensive testing process. The set also includes a sheet of labels and a clear plastic toiletry bag. The only real drawback? None of the bottles are particularly big, making this option suitable for short trips only.

Cadence The Originals Set
- Design 4.5 /5
- Performance 4 /5
Unique design
Performed well throughout testing
Customizable
More of an investment than others
Limited capacity
The Originals from Cadence are small, hexagonal capsules with screw-top lids that connect magnetically together in any shape or configuration you like. Aesthetics are at the forefront of this brand, as you can choose different colors for each capsule as well as printed, switchable, magnetic labels. In fact, they look so cute that you could even buy toiletries in bulk and decant them into these capsules for use at home. Sustainable practices like these are reinforced by the fact that the capsules are made from 20 percent recycled ocean-bound plastic.
We love that the capsules’ wide mouths and rounded interiors make them effortless to fill, use, and clean. They’re also 100 percent leakproof, waterproof, and airtight, as proven by our testing process. We found them incredibly durable and can’t imagine a scenario that would result in them being punctured or crushed. They are small (each one carries just 0.56 ounces), which could be a drawback. However, a capacity calculator on the brand website suggests you can carry approximately a week’s worth of products, depending on how regularly you use each one.
Number of Bottles: 6 | Sizes: (6) 0.6-ounce | Materials: Hard plastic
Most Durable
Mrsdry travel bottles.
- Ease of Use 3.5 /5
- Design 4 /5
Soft yet rugged silicone construction
Effective leakproofing
User friendly
No diversity in size or design
If your primary concern when packing liquids in your hand luggage is leaking, you’ll love the Mrsdry Travel Bottles Set. It consists of four 3-ounce bottles, each made of thick silicone that feels ultra-durable, and they stood up perfectly to our squeeze and drop tests. We were particularly impressed with the bottles’ no-drip valves, which successfully prevented leaks. All four bottles use the same shape and dispensing method—a pro for those who want lots of capacity for fewer products, and a drawback for those with a more complex personal care routine.
Having said that, we did feel that this set is so reasonably priced, there’s nothing to stop you from buying multiple sets if you have more products to pack. Instead of labels, the bottles come in four separate shades to distinguish between them. We also liked that their wide opening makes them easy to fill, even with thicker liquids and gels. And when it comes to cleaning them, the bendable silicone easily accommodates a bottle brush. All colorways include a transparent carry case.

Best Variety
Morfone 16 pack travel bottles.
- Ease of Use 4.5 /5
- Quality 4.5 /5
Good array of containers
Burly silicone handles rough treatment
Jar lids are weaker than expected
Multicolored style may not suit everyone
The Morfone Travel Bottles Set caters to travelers with an extensive beauty routine. With 10 containers in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and dispensing methods, you can take a broad range of products in just the right quantities for your time away. Options are as follows: two 1-ounce spray bottles, two 3-ounce squeeze bottles, two 2-ounce squeeze bottles, two 1-ounce jars, and two 0.3-ounce jars. We were impressed by the capacity of the largest bottles, which we felt could easily hold at least four washes’ worth of shampoo and conditioner.
The bottles are made of durable yet flexible food-grade silicone, with wide mouths for easy filling and cleaning. We appreciated the inclusion of two scoopers, a funnel, and a cleaning brush to help with these tasks, as well as a sheet of labels. Most of the containers held up well to our durability tests with no leaks or spills. The only exception was one of the jars, which suffered a broken lid. The set comes in a transparent carry bag and could fit into a quart-sized Ziploc (a TSA requirement) with some skillful maneuvering, although it was tight.
Number of Bottles: 10 | Sizes: (2) 0.3-ounce, (4) 1-ounce, (2) 2-ounce, (2) 3-ounce | Materials: Silicone
Best for Larger Capacities
Insfit tsa carry-on approved containers.
Great value for money
Well-designed lids
Choice of cute color palettes
Can be finicky with certain products
The INSFIT set is ideal for those who like to keep things simple with only a handful of essential products but also tend to travel for longer and need as much capacity as TSA will allow. It features four identical 3-ounce silicone bottles large enough to hold at least one to two weeks’ worth of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and sunscreen (or similar). The bottles are squeezable, which makes dispensing simple, although we found that thicker lotions and gels were easier to squeeze if the bottle was at least half full.
Other highlights include fully removable caps and wide mouths for mess-free filling and easy cleaning, and three-layered lids that are essentially leakproof. Even during our pressure test, caps remained securely in place, and afterward, the bottles still looked brand new. In fact, we were shocked to find out how affordable this set is given its evident quality. We also liked the stylish, see-through carry bag and the fact that there’s a special place on the caps to stick the included labels so that they adhere properly.
Best for Backpacking
Matador flatpak toiletry bottle.
Ideal for reducing heft and bulk
Thoughtful design elements
Proved durable during our testing
Difficult to fill with thicker consistencies
Made of waterproof 30D Cordura ripstop nylon with proprietary welded construction, the Matador FlatPak Toiletry Bottles are by far the most technical option on this list. With their flat-pack design and sturdy quality, they’re designed especially for adventures and expeditions where saving on space and weight is a priority . With a capacity of 3 ounces each, they’re five times lighter and 3.5 times more compact than standard silicone bottles, and pliable enough to fit into tight spaces: the ultimate backpacking companion.
We found them easy to fill with any liquid that was the consistency of shampoo or thinner. Thicker gels and lotions were tricky since the mouth wasn’t as wide as that of standard travel bottles. Still, any mess is easy to clean off the waterproof exterior. They fit easily into a quart-sized Ziploc, and we love the snap hook for attaching to the outside of your backpack for on-the-go use. The loop also features a spot for writing a description of the contents with a permanent marker. As expected, the packs survived all our tests with zero leaks or signs of damage.
Number of Bottles: 3 | Sizes: (3) 3-ounce | Materials: 30D Cordura ripstop nylon
Our overall favorite was the LiquiSnugs Premium Travel Bottles set. These bottles stood out for their durable, leakproof silicone construction and thoughtful extras including adjustable labels and individual suction pads. For the most budget-friendly option, choose the small yet sturdily versatile Vitog Travel Bottles Kit .
Upon receiving the bottles, our first step was to examine their overall quality and design and note any unique features. Then, we filled at least three of the bottles in the set: one with lotion, one with micellar water, and one with shampoo. For each one, we noted how easy it was to fill without spilling, how easy it was to clean if spillage did occur, and how appropriate each bottle would be for holding different types of liquid. We also tested how easy it was to open the bottle and dispense the product inside.
Next, we compressed the bottles in our palms to mimic pressure. We shook them, rolled them, squeezed them, and threw them to stimulate rough handling in transit, noting how well they withstood this treatment. Our final test was to put all of the bottles from the set into a quart-sized Ziploc bag, and then inside a toiletry bag. Then, we dropped them from waist height three times, always from different angles, to see whether any breakages or leaks occurred and whether the bottles showed any signs of wear and tear.
Each set was scored on a scale of one to five for ease of use, quality, design, performance, and value. Average scores were used to determine our category winners.
Other Travel Toiletry Bottles We Tested
GLOBEGEAR Travel Bottles : This nine-piece set features a solid range of containers and tools made of hard plastic that doesn't feel flimsy. We deducted points for the skimpy capacity of the bottles, which would only last a few days or applications (and made filling the bottles difficult), though the affordable price makes this a good option for the infrequent traveler.
Kitsch Travel Containers : Fans of variety will appreciate the range of products included in this compact kit. It won't set you back much and, accordingly, we feel it also won't last long. We like the idea of the flat containers but found them somewhat difficult to fill.
Cosywell Travel Containers : The Cosywell Containers are all the same shape in 10- and 20-milliliter capacities. We found the plastic and silicone jars easy to fill and well-designed, but they're more suited to thick liquids such as gels and creams.
What to Look For in Travel Toiletry Bottles
Durability is key when choosing travel toiletry bottles since containers that are easily punctured or cracked will result in a mess that’s at best inconvenient and at worst potentially expensive or upsetting depending on how much product is wasted and whether any other items in your carry-on are affected. Look for options made out of sturdy hard plastic or thick, flexible silicone, then check user reviews to get an idea of how the construction holds up under real-life travel conditions. If you’re planning an extreme adventure, technical options like the waterproof flat-pack bottles from Matador may be worth the extra expense.
Leakproofness
A bottle doesn’t have to break for leaks to occur—all it takes is a poorly constructed seal or lid. Look for bottles with a triple-layered leakproof cap and jars with a secure screw top. Pump bottles should come with a removable clip that prevents them from being deployed accidentally. Again, user reviews help check how efficient these measures are (it’s easy for a brand to advertise their product as leakproof, even if it’s not). Some brands, like Cadence, actually guarantee the efficacy of their leakproof design. Just in case, we always recommend storing toiletry bottles in a waterproof bag or Ziploc as a second line of defense.
If you plan on packing your toiletry bottles in your carry-on bag, you must make sure that none of them exceed the TSA-approved limit of 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Some sets are made up of identical large bottles of around 3 ounces, giving you the maximum allowable capacity for each of your products. However, because all bottles must fit in a single quart-sized Ziploc bag, this limits the number of bottles to around four.
If you have more products to pack, you may prefer a set that divides this capacity between a greater number of smaller bottles and containers—especially if you only require some of your liquids in very small quantities. The length of your trip will also dictate how big you need your bottles to be unless you only plan on using your carry-on liquids as a backup in case the full-size versions in your checked luggage get delayed.
Toiletries can be stored in opaque, translucent, or transparent bottles of any color as long as each individual bottle does not exceed the maximum capacity limit. For carry-on bags, most authorities including TSA set that limit at 3.4 ounces. Liquids can be in their original container or decanted into any container of your choosing (even one that’s labeled incorrectly), as long as these size restrictions are adhered to.
Most airport authorities—including TSA—rule that bottles containing liquids, aerosols, gels, creams, and pastes cannot exceed 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) if you wish to pack them in your carry-on luggage . In addition, all of these bottles must fit inside a quart-sized Ziploc bag and be screened separately from the rest of your luggage at security. Containers that exceed this limit will not be permitted, even if the volume of the product inside is less than 3.4 ounces (for example, if you have a half-used bottle of conditioner). Note that these restrictions do not apply to checked luggage.
Although toiletry bottles don’t have to be labeled from a legal perspective, many people like to do so to ensure they don’t end up brushing their teeth with expensive moisturizer, or vice versa. Some travel bottles come with waterproof stickers, especially for this purpose, and you can also purchase them separately online. This is a better option than writing on a standard office label by hand since toiletry bottles frequently get wet and ink can run and cause staining or become illegible. Alternatively, a permanent marker applied directly to the bottle could be an option if you’re always going to use the same container for the same product.

The Best, Most Surprising Travel Minis
Perusing the travel-toiletries aisle is a very specific kind of joy, whether you’re at a Duane Reade near your home or a pharmacie in the 5th Arrondissement. There’s the visual pleasure of something big made small as well as the chance to try a pricey item for a fraction of the cost of the full size. (Finding out that a shampoo makes your hair frizzy instead of fluffy is far less painful when you’ve spent $10 rather than $25.) It makes packing your Dopp kit or toiletry bag feel like a little treat instead of a crazed puzzle.
So I’ve rummaged through the metaphorical travel aisles to find minis of dozens of Strategist-approved brands. Everything is either under 3.4 ounces or a solid so that you can take it through TSA. I’ve mainly focused on stand-alone products (many of which are from brands you might not have realized make travel-size products), but I’ve also included some sets that are particularly good value. From skin care to shampoo, it’s a treasure trove of tinies.
The Strategist is designed to surface the most useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Some of our latest conquests include the best acne treatments , rolling luggage , pillows for side sleepers , natural anxiety remedies , and bath towels . Beauty and skincare products like shampoo, moisturizer, and face wash are essential on every packing list , whether you're heading to a hotel or are staying with friends or family. Since buying miniature versions of your favorite products can be expensive—and typically means purchasing a whole lot of single-use plastics—having practical and reliable toiletry travel bottles you can pull out for every trip is a must.
To make sure the reusable bottles we're throwing in our Dopp kit are easy to use and don't leak, we tested out a variety of affordable travel sets to see which ones actually get the job done. Below, you'll find 13 of the best travel toiletry bottles that will protect the contents of your luggage—and all of the creams, soaps, and serums you've shelled out for—and keep you organized on the go. Even better, all of these picks are TSA-friendly in size, so you don't have to worry about any of your favorite products being thrown out at the airport. As an added bonus, many of these travel bottles are available on Amazon Prime, so you can get your hands on them quickly before a last-minute getaway.
How we tested
I scoured the internet to find the most popular travel toiletry bottles—searching a variety of retailers, reading hundreds of reviews, and considering online ratings. After my initial research, I put many reusable toiletry bottles to the test, trying out dozens of options that range in price, size, and design. I've had some of these toiletry bottles for over a year and they've accompanied me on a mix of weeklong vacations in checked luggage and short weekend trips in tightly-packed duffel bags .
Over the last several months, I tested another batch of options: I've filled them with a variety of skincare, hair care, and body products—thick body wash, contact solution, and leave-in conditioner included. I've even left these filled containers upside down overnight to see if there were any unexpected leaks. My findings: There are many great options on the market to choose from and you don't need to break the bank to find the perfect set for you. Below, the best travel toiletry bottles to pack wherever you're headed next .

- Best for easy packing: Cadence The Capsule Flex System

No matter how organized I try to stay, my bathroom counter at every hotel always becomes cluttered with my many toiletries and hair products . The LiquiSnugs look like your classic silicone travel bottles, but they feature a clever suction cup on the back that allows you to stick them onto any shower wall—freeing up limited counter space. These are great for in-shower products like shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. This set of four bottles features two 3-ounce bottles and two 2-ounce bottles, so you can choose how much product you need depending on the length of your trip. Another smart design feature: Twist the top to adjust the label name so you won't forget what's inside. I've had these for about a year now and I consistently reach for these to pack shampoo and conditioner.
Pros : The unique suction cup design makes them great for shower products.
Cons : These occasionally will fall off shower walls if there's not a little bit of water to keep them in place.
This Amazon bestseller is versatile enough for every type of traveler. The 18-pack from Tocelffe features four silicone bottles of varying size (two 3-ounce bottles and two 2-ounce bottles), four small jars for creams and serums, two spray bottles, two spatulas, a funnel, labels, and a cleaning brush. These all come in a waterproof toiletry bag that you can reuse to carry makeup or tech essentials. In this set, I find myself mostly reaching for the ultra-soft silicone bottles, which are great for products like body wash, face cleanser, and micellar water. Each of these bottles feature three-layer leak-proof tops so you don't have to worry about spills in your bag. Something I love about these bottles is how they can be bent and squeezed easily to get every last bit of product out of them.
Pros: Very affordable, comes in a clear toiletry case, and the bottles' wide opening makes it easy to refill. Cons: The small plastic jars are not as reliable as the silicone bottles in this set.
If you're just looking for a few affordable no-frills travel bottles, these are for you. Available in a variety of colors, the silicone bottles do just what they say they will. They're leakproof, come in a set of four, and are easy to refill and clean. While there’s no bells and whistles, these three-ounce bottles pleasantly surprised me with just how much product they fit compared to some of the other classic silicone bottles we tested, making them an ideal option for a longer vacation. Plus, these have an average of 4.5 stars on Amazon with over 11,000 global reviews.
Pros: Versatility; available in many colorways
Cons : This set doesn't come with labels or a proper toiletry case.
Another solid choice for travelers is this set of four 3-ounce silicone travel bottles. These are squeezable, leakproof, and versatile enough to use for everything from shower products and soaps to sauces and baby food. These reusable bottles are all the same size and each a different color so you can differentiate them. Bonus: This set comes in a transparent toiletry case to keep them all organized in.
Pros : This set is available in a dozen colorways; wide opening makes them easy to refill without needing a funnel. Cons : This set doesn't come with labels.
If you prefer to bring along a bar of soap instead of using what's provided at the hotel, this compact soap box is a great travel companion. Inside, there's a soap mat that absorbs any excess water and prevents the soap from becoming mushy. I've used other plastic soap cases before without a mat and it always leaves a mess. This one features a silicone band that wraps tightly around the box for extra protection, and is about the size of a deck of cards.
Pros : Fits most commonly used soap brands, affordable, and features a simple-to-use design.
Cons : The soap box needs the band to stay secure so be careful not to lose it.
I've been a fan of Cadence's capsules for a few years now. These leakproof, airtight, and watertight magnetic capsules are unlike any other travel bottles I've used and are a true game changer when it comes to packing your own beauty products. The individual capsules magnetically snap together to take up as little space as possible in your Dopp kit and are designed without any right angles or edges, so you get every last bit of product available.
The original .56-ounce individual capsules are great for weekend trips and storing small items like daily vitamins and safety pins. The Capsule Flex System allows you to customize your own bundle with your choice of small , medium , and large sizes, as well as The Extender —an add-on that allows you to increase the size of the bottle when you need more room. This makes it so easy to customize your travel routine, whether you want to pack extra product for longer trips or bring enough body wash for you and your travel buddy. With The Flex System, you can still choose your own label for each capsule (the labels are interchangeable), as well as the color and number of capsules in your bundle.
Pros : It's easy to get every last drop of product inside each capsule and they are so easy to rinse out and reuse. The custom labels can be swapped out depending on what you're packing.
Cons : These are the most expensive option on our list.
I was eager to test out the Ries travel bottles after hearing a lot of buzz about the product and seeing them make their way into retailers like Sephora and Goop. These are a more elevated, aesthetically pleasing take on the classic reusable travel bottles you may have used in the past. Ries prioritized sustainability and design with these essentials: Each bottle is made from recycled plastic and features a large opening at the top, which makes it easy to refill and clean (not to mention, they're dishwasher safe). Travelers can purchases these bottles individually (a 3.4-ounce bottle or a 1.7-ounce bottle) or in a set with both sizes . My favorite thing about these bottles is the airless pump—I feel so glamorous while doing my nighttime skincare routine with these, and it makes it easier to use products like face wash or cleanser on the road. The bottles are pre-labeled (shampoo, conditioner, body, face) and you can twist the top to the side to conceal the opening, so product won't spill out.
Pros : Sustainably made; if you prefer a pump, these are for you.
Cons : On the pricier side; the bottles are a bit bulky and take up a little more room in my makeup bag than most travel-size products I use.
Finally, a solution to my contact lens woes. I can't count the number of times I've stopped into a drugstore to buy a mini bottle of contact lens solution before heading out on a trip, or to pick up rewetting drops because I'm dealing with dry contacts while away from home. This compact case makes cleaning and caring for contacts on the go much easier—it comes with an easy-to-fill reusable dropper that gives me a long weekend's worth of solution, a contact case, and has a mirror to help get them in and out. (I don't like to fly in contacts, so this is particularly handy if I forget to switch to my glasses before leaving home.) It weighs next to nothing, and will fit in all but my smallest handbags, so I've been keeping it on me regularly, not just when traveling. — Madison Flager, senior commerce editor
Pros : It comes with a tiny pair of tweezers to make removing contacts from the case less messy. Cons : The contact solution holder isn't large enough for weeklong trips.
I admit I've also been guilty of buying mini versions of my favorite contact solution. As much as I love reusable toiletry bottles for my skincare and hair products, I've never had anything that felt right for the consistency of my contact solution. I wear daily lenses, meaning I don't need a whole lot of solution with me when I travel, so it is a little frustrating to carry around a bottle that takes up precious space in my Dopp kit. Lately, I've been carrying about the Cauyuan eye glass case which comes with a super small dropper for contact solution. This refillable dropper holds just enough contact solution for weekend trips and shorter vacations and takes up such little space (I've even found myself tossing it in my handbag in case my eyes get a little dry.) This durable case keeps all of my eye care essentials together and protected, with a separate compartment for eye glasses, and another that holds the dropper, tweezers, a contact case, and a mirror.
Pros : All of my eyewear essentials are now in once place and stay organized; the dropper is small enough to fit in a tiny purse. Cons : The compartment for your eye glasses is on the small size—if you have thick or bulky frames, they might not fit.
I've never found a reusable spray bottle for my perfume that I've liked, so I've always relied on buying miniature versions of each of my favorite fragrances. But let's be real—those travel-size perfume bottles are expensive! They're often made of glass, too, making them vulnerable to breaking in your luggage. Enter the Vonovo mini refillable perfume bottles: Each of these holds 0.2 ounces of your favorite scent, more than enough for a long vacation. This set comes with five spray bottles, so you can bring along any of your favorites—or all of them. And they are so easy to use—simply pull off the top of your full-size perfume, press the bottom of the mini bottle on top of it, and keep clicking until its refilled. Each of the bottles have a clear vial inside so you can see how much product you have left. My favorite part: These are so tiny—think the size of a lipstick— meaning I can even bring them with me on a date night when I'm only carrying a small purse .
Pros : Easy to refill and compact enough to fit in even the tiniest of travel bags Cons : These spray bottles wont match the look of your full-size perfume and don't have labels, so you'll have to remember based on the color of the mini bottle you choose. Also, these can be refilled with the same perfume, but I wouldn't recommend reusing them with another scent.
For those with a more rigid skincare or haircare routine, this 16-pack lets you bring along every last product you want—and it all fits into one reusable case. The set comes with four silicone bottles, four jars, two spray bottles, two scoopers, a funnel, and a cleaning brush. The variety means you can pack everything from soap and shampoo to serums and sprays in here, and the cleaning brush makes the bottles easy to clean and re-use. I like this set best for packing my more expensive skincare serums and creams in the small jars that have a scooper to use.
Pros : A variety of types of containers
Cons : The toiletry case the bottles come in isn't the best quality.
The Kitsch Ultimate travel set includes leakproof holders that are compact and lightweight enough to pack in a purse or tote bag . In addition to three flat pouches, this set also comes with two pump bottles, two mini jars, one mini funnel, one mini spatula, and one mini pipette. This set is best for a longer trip—say, a European vacation or a cross-country road trip —as you can store a lot more shampoo, conditioner, and lotions in the pouches without going over any TSA limits (plus, they'll get lighter as you use them).
Pros : The flat pouches are easy to pack and take up less room in a Dopp kit than bulkier bottles.
Cons : The pouches are a little bit harder to refill than bottles with a wide opening.
If you're packing toiletries for your entire family , this 21-pack of travel bottles has you covered. This package comes with four silicone bottles, four cream jars, four toothbrush covers, two spray bottles, two pump bottles, two trowels, a funnel, and labels to keep everything straight. Whether it's a trip to Disney World or multi-generational cruise , this set makes packing for the whole family easy.
Pros : These come with toothbrush covers–a nice travel accessory that none of the other options on our list offers.
Cons : Not ideal for weekend trips or light packers.

Six essential travel toiletries for fresh-faced jet setting
By Robert Leedham
We’ve all suffered that last-minute scramble at the airport. Sure, you packed your passport, power adaptors and a hefty wad of foreign currency just waiting to be spent on overpriced cocktails, but what about your travel toiletries? Worse still, you have might have been one of those unfortunate souls who has made it all the way up to airport security only to realise your suitcase is stuffed full of creams, gels and fragrances that breach the all-important 100ml limit that's still in effect. If you’re reading this right now, we’re going to assume you’ve been smart enough to prep in advance for your holidays with a suite of travel-size grooming essentials. Because Lord knows that mid-sized Boots on the way to the departure gate won’t do much to help your cause.
Thankfully for both the impeccably organised and those who’ve previously tried to stuff their entire bathroom cabinet into a tiny see-through plastic bag, plenty of major grooming brands will happily cater to your holiday needs. From sun creams and body washes to moisturisers and toothpaste , we’ve found the tiny versions of our bathroom favourites. The best part of incorporating these into your carry-on? Because these products are smaller than their usual form, you can use your travels to try out something new and bougie. Because hey, you deserve to look your best in those poolside photos.
1. A classy sunscreen
Malin + Goetz SPF30
Cult Beauty
Nivea Sun Protect & Moisture To Go SPF30
Aesop Protective Lip Balm SPF30
Look, if you plan on spending a week soaking up the sun’s rays then you don’t need us to tell you the benefits of investing in a decent SPF. Not least because sunscreen is the one thing that’ll separate the colour of your tan from Liverpool FC red to Greek godly bronze. While you can trust in the ever-reliable properties of Nivea’s Sun Protect & Moisture To Go , we’d recommend something a little more luxe for those prepping for their beach-lounging in advance. Malin + Goetz’s SPF30 cream will protect skin while avoiding the typical pitfalls of blocked pores and an unseemly greasy residue. Pair it with Aesop’s Protective Lip Balm to truly do your body a kindness.
2. A versatile moisturiser
Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energising Moisture Treatment For Men
Kiehl's
The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors + HA
Lookfantastic
Malin + Goetz Face Essentials Duo
A good moisturiser is the foundation of any man’s grooming arsenal, but there’s a decent chance you might not want to take the truly luxe stuff with you in your wash bag . Thankfully, Kiehl’s Facial Fuel is an old reliable for many a GQ staffer with its vitamin and caffeine enriched formula that’s suitable for all skin types thanks to its non-oily properties. Given the sheer hype behind The Ordinary’s wares in the past year or so – blame TikTok's skincare influencers for that one – we’re delighted to see its own Natural Moisturising Factors is available in 30ml form for an absolute steal. And if you’re in need of a moisturiser and cleanser combo? Malin + Goetz’s Face Essentials Duo kit has your back (or indeed face).
3. A revitalising body wash
Kiehl’s Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash
Cowshed Travel Set
Aesop Geranium Leaf Hydrating Body Treatment
Look, no one loves to hoard hotel-quality toiletries as much as us, but sometimes you simply want to take your at-home shower routine on holiday with you. Worse still, you might have unwittingly booked into a place that’ll only serve you body wash out of a giant pump. Fear not dear reader, the Cowshed’s Travel Set comes with the shower gel, shampoo and conditioner (as well as a delightful body lotion) to see you through such dark days. For those who want to spread their wings beyond a toiletry kit, we’d recommend both a Kiehl’s Face Wash and Aesop Geranium Leaf Hydrating Body Treatment as foundational tools in your morning battle against jetlag.
4. A one-stop shaving kit
Gilette Travel Set
Acqua di Parma Barbiere Essential Shaving Kit
Harry's Travel Bundle Shave Set
While it’s eminently possible to stow away your beard trimmer or electric shaver in your toiletry bag, nothing really beats the feeling of a baby-smooth holiday shave. For exactly that fresh-faced vibe, you can’t really say fairer than Gilette’s Travel Set , which comes with a razor and shaving gel, as well as a toothbrush, toothpaste and a few other essentials. If your travels call for something a little more refined, then Acqua di Parma’s Essential Shaving Kit will happily step up to the plate, while Harry’s Travel Bundle Shave Set serves up an accomplished middle-ground between the two.
5. A fresh fragrance
Tom Ford Private Blend Oud Wood Eau de Parfum Atomiser
Le Labo Santal 33 Eau de Parfum
Jo Malone London Poppy and Barley cologne
It’s worth taking the chance to reinvent your signature scent when jet setting off somewhere sunnier, or at the very least you should use your getaway as a means to expand the horizons of your eau de parfum repertoire. Tom Ford’s Private Blend is a prime example of such a decadent opportunity with its woody oud blend proving a perfectly sensual companion for after-hours stumbling around cobbled streets and dimly lit bars. For a similarly masculine fragrance that’ll see you through the morning after, Le Labo’s Santal 33 is a fresh and stimulating delight with notes of cardamom, iris and violet. As for Jo Malone London’s Poppy and Barley cologne ? It’s been elegantly crafted so that you can take a taste of Blighty with you as you explore warmer climes.
6. A comprehensive travel mini kit
Aesop Departure Kit
Molton Brown The Daring Adventurer Mini Travel Bag
Molton Brown
Malin + Goetz Best Sellers Travel Kit
Let’s face it, holiday prep can be stressful enough without you having to itemise the contents of your travel toiletry bag. That’s why several of the most-lauded men’s grooming brands have done the decent thing and shrunk their finest wares into one devilishly handsome package. Our pick of the bunch? Aesop’s Departure Kit , which is absolutely stuffed full of its best-loved products including the Blue Chamomile Facial Hydrating masque, Immediate Moisture Facial Hydrosol, mouthwash and toothpaste. For those who intend to spend more time in the bathtub than under a parasol, Molton Brown’s The Daring Adventurer Mini Travel Bag really is an essential purchase. As for a greatest hits skincare collection? The Malin + Goetz Best Sellers Travel Kit does exactly what it says on the tin.

Bumble and bumble prêt-á-powder très invisible dry shampoo, how do you use dry shampoo.
Simply apply a few spritzes, massage it in, brush through and voilà — you're ready. It’s as simple as that when it comes to application. However, there are a few other things to consider when it comes to how often you reach for your favourite can of the stuff.
As helpful as it is, dry shampoo shouldn't replace regular washing with shampoo and conditioner, as trichologist Victoria Scott , part of the Institute of Trichologists, explains. ‘Dry shampoos don’t only reduce the hydrophobic qualities of oils and sebum, they also dehydrate the follicle,’ she says. ‘Overuse can cause ‘hair and scalp damage, irritation, and even hair loss from blocked follicles.’
You should always hold the can 12 inches (30cm) away from your head, and Scott recommends spraying ‘towards the hair and scalp to prevent direct contact between the skin and the propellants, or excessive inhalation of the product.’
Dry shampoo also shouldn't be used on wet hair, despite what you may have read on social media. Instead of soaking up any extra sebum, as it does on dry hair, it will ‘reduce any moisture you've added during the actual hair wash with water,’ Scott explains. ‘This can have a long-term impact on the quality and condition of your hair and scalp.'
Is dry shampoo bad for me?
The key thing to remember is that dry shampoo is for occasional use. It shouldn't replace regular washing, as it doesn't cleanse the hair and scalp, and overuse can lead to dehydrated or blocked follicles.
Instead, only reach for dry shampoo to spruce yourself up between washes, as nothing quite replicates the effects (and feeling) of a really good scrub and rinse – and don't forget the conditioner .
How we test
We put 23 different dry shampoos through their paces in the WH Lab . We first applied artificial sebum to hair switches and recorded the amount of sebum present using a Sebumeter, a machine that measures how greasy the hair is. We then applied each dry shampoo to the switches and measured again, to see how effective they were at reducing the sebum levels.
We also asked 493 testers to spend two weeks trying them out, before feeding back on how effectively they reduced greasiness and whether their hair felt fresher overall after use. They also considered the finish of their hair after application, along with the overall design of the product.
Olaplex’s bond building treatments have solved many of our haircare woes, and our panel found its dry shampoo equally impressive.
Testers with dark hair found it particularly effective, as it doesn’t leave any annoying white cast, a common bugbear for those with darker locks. Formulated with a clear spray, they loved that it’s ‘completely invisible’, showing no signs of any white residue and didn’t feel ‘heavy or powdery in hair.’ Others noted how thick and full it made their hair feel, with plenty of long-lasting volume.
Key specifications
Giving great coverage, thanks to a powerful spray, our testers found this an easy-to-use dry product that effectively absorbed grease.
They liked how healthy it made their hair look, leaving it ‘shiny and refreshed’ and said it didn't ‘feel claggy on the scalp’. The effects were long-lasting and everyone enjoyed the scent, which also lingered longer than with other products tested. Some of our panel with dark hair did notice a slight white cast, though.
For those with fine hair, dry shampoo can be a godsend, as finer strands can often turn greasy more quickly. Enter Monday's OG dry shampoo, which testers said helped them go for longer between hair washes.
Formulated with miracle ingredient, keratin, this spray also helps improve the condition of hair. Testers said their hair felt clean, weightless and fresh after using it, although some noted it had a slightly tacky finish.
What sets this dry shampoo apart from the rest of the list is that it comes in an innovative foam form. It claims to be the perfect product for achieving ‘a wavy, beachy shape, without the crunch’. Our testers agreed that there was no crispy, mousse-like finish and their hair didn't feel heavy after use.
They also said that a little product went a long way and it didn't leave any white cast, although some found the finish a little sticky.
Neal & Wolf Dry Shampoo
This spray added lots of volume to our testers’ hair, while also banishing unwanted sebum. One person said it instantly added texture and volume to their usually flat locks.
Testers also liked how easy it was to style their hair after use and said it left their hair feeling soft and not too heavy. The musky fragrance proved a little divisive, with some finding it overpowering, while others enjoyed how long it lingered.
If you already have dry hair, adding dry shampoo to the mix can feel very counter productive. If that struggle sounds familiar, you may want to check out Klorane – its formula includes oat milk extract to help moisturise the hair, without adding greasiness.
Instead, it adds texture and body to the hair, while also effectively removing sebum. Some testers noted it left a white residue, but it brushed out easily and didn't feel sticky after.
We often forget that our scalps need sun protection too, but it's not like you can rub suncream into your roots. Helpfully, Bumble and Bumble has come up with a clever answer: dry shampoo with UV protection.
Testers found the formula invisible, as the name suggests, and didn't notice any residue after spraying. It left their hair looking and feeling fresher, but on the downside, it didn't add much volume.

Behold, The Best Shampoos For Your Hair Type
By Tish Weinstock and Tracy Achonwa
Whether you’re looking to target thinning hair or replenish a dry scalp , to find the best shampoo for your hair, you need to start at the root. First off, a good shampoo should cleanse the hair and scalp of oil and dirt build-up, be easy to rinse out, and leave your locks feeling soft and silky so that they’re easy to style and manage. But sometimes your hair might need that something extra.
By Tish Weinstock and Lauren Murdoch-Smith
What to look for when buying shampoo
“Choosing the right shampoo for your hair type is very important to get the best results from your shampoo,” says trichologist, Hannah Gaboardi . “For hair which is excessively dry and dull-looking, for example, you may need to choose the shampoo that offers moisturising and conditioning properties; whereas if your hair gets greasy quickly you should avoid silicone-based shampoos. For flaky scalps or dandruff, look for shampoos with ingredients like pyithione zinc and salicylic acid. And for fine hair, one should opt for a shampoo with thickening agents.”
But with so many options out there, and new releases dropping every week, it can be difficult to navigate, which is why we’ve selected some of our tried-and-tested favourites.
From gentle curl cleansing formulas to keratin-boosting power blends, Vogue rounds up the best shampoo for your hair needs.
The best shampoos at a glance
- Best shampoo for an itchy and flaky scalp: La Roche Posay Kerium Anti-Dandruff Gel , £11.50

Best shampoo for dandruff
La Roche Posay Kerium Anti-Dandruff Gel
La Roche Posay
Why it’s Vogue approved:
By Hannah Jackson
By Ellie Pithers
By Lauren Murdoch-Smith
Dermatologist favourite La Roche Posay applies its skincare-first philosophy to treat a troubled scalp. Designed for optimal tolerance on even the most sensitive and irritated skin, this gel shampoo targets flakes (and the fungal growths that often accompany them) with gently micro-exfoliating LipoHydroxy Acid and anti-fungal Piroctone Olamine. Lather up and let it sit a while before you rinse, for relief from the discomfort of dandruff and a deep clean of oily tresses. We particularly love the clean scent and scalp clarity this shampoo provides, dissolving buildup to give our hair that refreshed feeling when we tried it.
Redken Scalp Relief Dandruff Control Shampoo
Look Fantastic
Not to be confused with dry scalp, dandruff is the result of increased oil production and yeast overgrowth on the scalp. To combat this, Redken’s Scalp Relief Dandruff Control Shampoo uses a wet/dry formula powered by pyrithione zinc, lavender extract and glycerin, to cleanse and clarify the hair and relieve the scalp for good. Apply first to dry hair, massage into the scalp, and leave in for five minutes, before washing away with water.
Best shampoo for thinning hair
Augustinus Bader The Shampoo
Cult Beauty
Augustinus Bader
Using the brand’s signature TFC8 technology (a complex of natural amino acids and vitamins), Augustinus Bader ’s miracle-working shampoo nourishes and hydrates the hair from the first use. Furthermore, thanks to a keratin-boosting, follicle-stimulating blend of watercress and maca root, over time it promotes stronger, thicker hair that’s less prone to breakage and shedding.
Philip Kingsley Density Thickening Shampoo
Free from drying sulphates, Philip Kingsley’s Density Thickening Shampoo is formulated with hyper-branched polymers and hydrolysed pea peptides to both increase volume and boost strand thickness, strengthening your hair from within the cortex. Meanwhile, added BHAs gently exfoliate to promote a healthy environment for hair growth.
Best shampoo for oily hair
Bumble and Bumble Sunday Shampoo
Say goodbye to greasy hair with Bumble and Bumble’s Sunday Shampoo . A powerful blend of ginseng, rosemary and sage works to support the scalp, and this weekly cleansing formula works to remove build-up, excess oil and product residue, providing optimal conditions for healthy hair growth and overall fuller-looking locks.
Oribe Serene Scalp Oil Control Shampoo
The hero ingredient in Oribe’s luxe oil-controlling cleanser is green marine algae, which balances the scalp’s microbiome and reduces excess sebum production. A chic-looking bottle on any bathroom shelf, it’s more than just a pretty face – when we put it to the test we found it left our locks sans grease but with a lustrous shine. It’s no mean feat for a category of shampoos that can often leave hair feeling stripped, but Oribe masters the balance of a deep and gentle cleanse with a skincare-loaded lather. Its edelweiss flower, watermelon and lychee extracts support your scalp with antioxidant protection.
HelloKlean Hard Water Shampoo
Hello Klean
Hard water is the enemy of a thorough cleanse, and if you reside anywhere near the capital, your taps are likely full of it. Those calcium deposits that line your tubs and tiles also scupper the lathering potential of your cleanser, and if you’ve got an oily scalp, the last thing you need is an inefficient rinse. Enter Hello Klean’s hard water shampoo, which lifts soap-scum minerals from the scalp and hair shaft, using a blend of activated charcoal, oat proteins and lactic acid. Sulphate and silicone-free, it gently rids the hair of build-up for refreshed strands that are silky soft to the touch.
The best shampoo for dry hair
Shu Uemura Art of Hair Ultimate Reset Shampoo
Powered by Japanese-sourced rice extract, which is rich in vitamins B and E and many nourishing minerals, Shu Uemura’s Art of Hair Ultimate Reset Shampoo helps protect hair from damaging and drying aggressors and cleanses hair thoroughly without stripping it of its natural oils.
Christophe Robin Hydrating Shampoo With Aloe Vera
Christophe Robin
Restore hair to its former glory with Christophe Robin’s Hydrating Shampoo with Aloe Vera . Blending vitamins with ultra-hydrating aloe vera, this lightweight shampoo gently cleanses the scalp of dirt and product build-up, without stripping away any essential oils or damaging the hair’s protective barrier. Hair is left looking and feeling totally replenished.
The best shampoo for curly hair
Charlotte Mensah Manketti Oil Shampoo
Net-a-porter
Specially formulated for curls and textured hair, Charlotte Mensah’s Maneketti Oil Shampoo is designed to nourish dry and damaged hair. Infused with nut and ximenia oils, the organic formula strengthens as it cleanses, leaving hair soft and manageable.
Pattern Beauty Cleansing Shampoo
If you could trust anyone to teach you the secrets to a thriving afro, Tracee Ellis Ross (and her mother, Diana) would be top of the list. Designed for type 3 and type 4 hair, the star’s shampoo is tailored to the needs of thick, naturally coiled hair, addressing dryness and the tendency for tangling and breakage with a nourishing, strengthening formula. We love the inclusion of aloe vera and vitamin B5, which gave a juicy, healthy look to our tester’s curl pattern after just one use.
Briogeo Curl Charisma Rice Amino And Avocado Hydrating Shampoo
Curls in need of some replenishment? Look no further than Briogeo’s Curl Charisma Rice Amino And Avocado Hydrating Shampoo . This sulphate-free shampoo nourishes and defines curls, coils and waves, increasing body without weighing them down and hydrating them without stripping away their natural oils.
Best shampoo for hair growth
Mielle Rosemary Mint Blend Strengthening Shampoo
Mielle’s rosemary-infused range comes with a multitude of customer testimonials, all hailing its uncanny ability to regrow thinning hair, and fast. A quick scan of Tiktok for the brand’s rosemary oil will show you all you need to know, and its shampoo is formulated with the same biotin blend responsible for so many impressive results. With added peppermint, which stimulates circulation at the scalp to revitalise faltering follicles, this shampoo offers a nourishing cleanse that promotes healthy hair growth. Trust us when we tell you you’ll want to add the accompanying oil to your cart – this duo works wonders on thinning edges and slow-growing hair in a matter of mere weeks.
Dr. Barbara Sturm Anti Hair Fall Shampoo
Dr. Barbara Sturm
Struggling with shed hair and perpetual split ends? Dr. Barbara Sturm’s shampoo is a veritable saving grace. In a science-driven formula, it uses camellia and larch extract to strengthen the hair follicle, plus vitamin B5 to repair unravelling hair shafts and reduce further breakage. The result is a nourishing cleanser that fortifies weakened hair, supplemented with cationic hyaluronic acid to keep strands hydrated and healthy. Used on wet hair and left to work for a couple of minutes, it gets our vote for making hair more resilient over time.
Best shampoo for a dry scalp
Ouai Detox Shampoo
Give your scalp some TLC with Ouai’s Detox Shampoo . Using apple cider vinegar, this nourishing formula helps to lower the pH levels of the scalp, alleviating dryness with its soothing properties. Meanwhile, a blend of rose, bergamot, lychee and musk replenishes hair, leaving tresses silky soft and smelling incredible.
Oribe Serene Scalp Balancing Shampoo
Get you a shampoo that does both. Made with sugarcane extract, watermelon, lychee and edelweiss flower, Oribe’s multi-tasking formula works to soothe and hydrate the scalp, protecting it from oxidative and environmental stress, while salicylic acid gently exfoliates, relieving the scalp from itchiness, dryness and redness. Hair is left feeling soft and shiny.
Best shampoo for coloured hair
Pureology Hydrate Shampoo
Formulated for colour-treated hair, Pureology Hydrate Shampoo uses a blend of sage, green tea and jojoba to target dry, dehydrated locks, locking in and revitalising colour. Meanwhile, the brand’s patented Antifade Complex® contains a UV filter designed to protect the hair from external aggressors that can accelerate fading.
Aveda Colour Conserve Shampoo
Boost colour-treated hair and prevent from fading with Aveda’s plant-fused Colour Conserve Shampoo. This 100 per cent organic formula is designed to replenish dry, damaged hair and protect it from the harmful effects of environmental aggressors leaving hair soft and silky.

9 Best Shampoos for Men In 2022
Banish grease and restore hydration with these winning formulas.
If you find you get pretty sweaty during your workouts , it’s important to get rid of any grime, otherwise it could lead to a build up on your scalp, leaving your hair looking lacklustre, or worse, with dandruff.
Below are the Men’s Health Lab top picks for the best shampoos for men, that will help rebalance oiliness and leave your hair looking fresh for the day ahead.
How often should you wash your hair?
We know it seems odd, but don’t wash your hair every day. Unless you’ve had a hardcore training session , try to stick to washing it just three times a week.
Washing too frequently can cause a whole heap of problems, from dandruff to even hair loss further down the line.
The trick is to find a shampoo with a formula designed to provide long-lasting oil control, to help keep grease at bay for longer. This will save your hair from being over-washed, and save you time - and money - in the long run.
If you’re a swimmer or have spent too much time in the sun, you might have noticed ends are on the other end of the scale and feel dry and brittle. Chlorine and UV rays both deprive scalps from their natural oils , causing strands to become weaker, leading to split ends. A moisture-rich product should do the trick, to help return hair to its former glory.
How we test
To find the best shampoo for men, a panel of 667 testers (yes, really!) - with hair textures ranging from straight to afro - tried 47 brands of shampoo for two weeks.
They noted how effectively the products cleaned, and whether there were any long-lasting benefits to their hair. They also reported back on how hair felt after use, focusing on hydration, smoothness, shininess and volume.
In the Men’s Health Lab, we applied artificial sebum to hair switches and used a Sebumeter to measure oil and sebum levels after using the shampoo, to see how effective they were at controlling grease. We also used a Dia-stron instrument to measure the smoothness of the hair after being washed and dried with the product.
We’ve noted below whether each shampoo contains parabens, silicones or sulphates, in case they’re a concern for you.
Head & Shoulders 2-in-1 Total Male Care Shampoo
Promising to help rebalance scalps that are either a little too oily or dry, we found this time-saving 2-in-1 did the trick when it came to regulating and hydrating roots.
As an added bonus, it improved the texture of hair for those with dehydrated ends, and in the lab we found it reduced oiliness by a whopping 99%. Add to your gym bag to use after sweaty training sessions.
Key specifications Volume: 225ml Paraben free: Yes Silicone free: No Sulphate free: No
Bumble and Bumble Sunday Shampoo
Save this weekly treatment for after a particularly sweaty workout. It will deep clean hair of any sweat and grime, and you won’t need to use much to do so. The rich lather makes your roots feel squeaky clean too, without compromising on softness.
Key specifications Volume: 250ml Paraben free: Yes Silicone free: Yes Sulphate free: No
OGX Refreshing Scalp + Tea Tree Mint Shampoo
This mix of peppermint and tea tree oils is supposed to give lazy scalps an energising wake-up call, to leave it feeling refreshed. We found we didn’t have to wash our hair as regularly due to how well it helped control greasiness, and made our hair easier to style afterwards.
Key specifications Volume: 385ml Paraben free: Yes Silicone free: No Sulphate free: Yes
Aveda Men Pure-Formance Shampoo
This powerful formula claims to reduce oiliness in just two weeks. We found it lived up to the hype, effectively lathering to give roots a proper clean, leaving hair looking healthier too. In the lab, we found it reduced oiliness by an impressive 86%. It’s pricey but you will see results.
Key specifications Volume: 300ml Paraben free: Yes Silicone free: Yes Sulphate free: Yes
Lush Jumping Juniper Shampoo Bar
This compact shampoo bar helped to control greasiness to keep hair cleaner for longer. The bar format not only makes it lightweight for on-the-go use, but it’s also more eco-friendly. To use, simply add a bit of water and massage into roots.
Key specifications Volume: 55g Paraben free: Yes Silicone free: Yes Sulphate free: No
Vichy Dercos Technique Anti-Dandruff Dermatological Shampoo
Despite its name, we didn’t find that this shampoo was the best one for the job when it came to tackling dandruff (see above), but it does do a cracking job at controlling greasiness. We saw noticeable improvements in just two to five washes, while our lab tests found it helped reduce oiliness by 95%.
Key specifications Volume: 200ml Paraben free: Yes Silicone free: No Sulphate free: No
Philip Kingsley Moisture Extreme Enriching Shampoo
This vegan formula topped our test for how well it managed to repair damage and relieve any dryness caused by too much time in the sun, all while providing a deep cleanse. Hair looked and felt more hydrated and smoother after washing, earning it a thumbs up from us.
Key specifications Volume: 250ml Paraben free: Yes Silicone free: No Sulphate free: No
The Body Shop Ginger Anti-Dandruff Shampoo
This shampoo is infused with zesty ginger to remove any dead skin and flakiness. We found it acted like our morning ginger shot, but woke up a tired scalp instead. It left us with smoother, more hydrated hair, and added softness.
L'Oréal Professionnel Serié Expert Absolut Repair Gold Shampoo
If you’ve done a lot of laps in the pool and found chlorine has left your hair feeling as dry as sand, try this shampoo. Infused with gold quinoa (yes, it’s good for your hair, not just for lunch), it aims to repair damage to brittle ends. We found it gave hair a boost of hydration, and left scalps feeling refreshed.
Key specifications Volume: 300ml Paraben free: Yes Silicone free: No Sulphate free: No

The 11 best drugstore shampoos might be affordable, but they give luxury alternatives a run for their money
Yes, drugstore shampoos can be good
- Sign-up to our newsletter
If you’re not overwhelmed by the choices of shampoo out there, seriously congrats because I don’t think I’ve ever walked into a drugstore and not been overwhelmed by the sheer number of options available—even as a beauty editor.
There truly is something for everyone—from purple shampoo and blue shampoo to dry shampoo —and whilst that’s something to be celebrated, it can be really difficult to know what’s going to work best for you and what’s worth your money. And honestly? We expect a lot from a humble bottle of shampoo. It’s got to tick our criteria: cleansing thoroughly, not stripping our precious natural oils, not fade our hair colour, help add in much-needed hydration, foam nicely and have a scent to our taste—to name a few. All while being within our budget.
Luckily, the cosmetic chemists have created formulas that deliver above and beyond our expectations. But nevertheless, if you’re still in camp totally overwhelmed, we’ve got you. I’ve tried hundreds of shampoos and am passionate about the ones we can find on the high street.
Ahead, take a look at our favourite drugstore shampoo formulas, from sulphate-free to colour-safe.
How we tested the best drugstore shampoos
Although shampoo seems like a simple enough product, we expect a lot from them. In this list, we tested each shampoo on its fragrance, level of lather, ability to cleanse our scalp, and colour protection (told you I expect a lot). We also considered how well the shampoo lived up to its claims based on its budget, because let's be honest, when it comes to drugstore shampoos, we don't want to spend a lot.
So here goes, the very best drugstore shampoos...
1. L’Oréal Paris Elvive Hydra Pure Shampoo
L’Oréal Paris Elvive Hydra Pure Shampoo
Reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.
We don't know about you, but both our Senior Beauty Editor, Katie Thomas, and Executive Beauty Editor, Shannon Lawlor, struggle with dry ends and greasy roots. Finding a shampoo that tackles both of those is near on impossible, until now.
"I cannot recommend this shampoo enough. It has completely transformed the way I look after my hair," says Katie. "Beforehand I would use one of the best shampoos for greasy hair and then apply lots of oil to my ends. Or I would have to use a super hydrating shampoo and arm myself with a dry shampoo. Now I don't need to. It's £8, which incredible value for what this is able to achieve - hydrated ends and oil-free roots for longer."
2. Bleach London Rosé Shampoo
Bleach London Rosé Shampoo
Let's be honest, getting your hair coloured is incredibly expensive. What Bleach London has done is create a product line that's inspired by its iconic in-salon expertise. Alongside its home hair colour range, there's also its collection of shampoos that colour as your wash.
"I have loved this Rosé Shampoo for over five years," says Katie. "It adds the most beautiful pink hue to blonde hair. I use it in the summer, when I'm feeling my most playful. I am such a fan of it that one of my bridesmaids used it in the lead up to my wedding, because I thought it would look so pretty with her white floral dress. And I was right."
3. Monday Haircare Moisture Shampoo
Monday Haircare Moisture Shampoo
Monday haircare really does nail it on the no-frills, affordable shampoo front. It cleanses hair without totally stripping it and has a pleasant (but not over-the-top) scent. It's great for dry hair in need of a moisture boost. Plus, the bottles are a great size so feel like they last longer than 3 washes (as some shampoos seem to do!) And they look really cute in the shower, too.
What I also think is great is that the entire bottle is recyclable, including the pump, which typically have to be chucked. Friendly for your hair and the planet!
4. John Frieda Profiller+ Thickening Shampoo
John Frieda Profiller+ Thickening Shampoo
Although I have lots of hair, it’s much finer than it looks. For this reason, I do reach for thickening treatments every now and then. Now, thickening shampoos are a difficult one because there’s only so much they can help. For actually thinning hair, your first port of call is a medical professional to rule out any underlying concerns.
There is a place for these products in a routine though. While a shampoo can't give you more hair, it can give the appearance of thicker roots, which is exactly what this one does. It lathers really well, smells elegant but not too strong and gives volume without making hair fluffy. This one works best when I blow dry my hair afterwards, so it's a great pre-styling cleanse.
5. Hask Argan Oil Repairing Shampoo
Hask Argan Oil Repairing Shampoo
In my opinion, Hask is a brand that doesn’t get enough attention. I love all of the ranges but particularly love the argan oil shampoo. For my straight, fine but long hair, it definitely lives up to its claim of leaving it feeling silky-smooth.
Its star ingredient is, you guessed it, argan oil, which helps keep hair feeling hydrated and free from frizz. Often I find these thicker formulas leave a horrible residue but this doesn't leave any greasy feeling behind, which is a huge win. Since this formula doesn't contain any sulphates, it doesn't foam up as much as others do so you might need a scalp massager to work the shampoo into your scalp.
6. OGX Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo
OGX Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo
If you’re really struggling with product build-up in your hair, you need a clarifying formula. Sometimes, if I’ve abused the dry shampoo or left my hair between days for a little too long, I use a clarifying shampoo. This OGX one is strong enough to give a thorough clean without feeling irritating or like it's stripping my scalp. Think of this as your weekly detox treatment.
Although the name might have you be thinking otherwise, this shampoo smells incredibly fresh so don't let that stop you.
7. Shea Moisture Strengthen & Restore Shampoo
Shea Moisture Strengthen & Restore Shampoo
Designed to deeply nourish curly and afro hair types, thanks to the formula packed with Jamaican black castor oil and shea butter. While delivering moisture, the formula also works to cleanse scalp build-up from leftover product and dead skin cells. Being for curly hair, it doesn't have sulphates in the formula—although it still lathers a little.
8. Bleach London Reincarnation Shampoo
Bleach London Reincarnation Shampoo
Most of us have had a bleached or coloured hair moment at one time in our lives and, as a beauty editor, I’m often getting my hair tinted. One of the brands I lean on when my hair is in need of some serious TLC from colour damage is Bleach London.
Made with creatine to rebuild hair bonds and wheat microproteins and amino acids to strengthen the hair, it's well worth being on the slightly more pricey side of the drugstore picks. Use it alongside the Reincarnation Mask and you'll have what feels like brand-new hair after just a single wash. I won't be without either of these products.
9. Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo
Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo
You just can't go wrong with a bit of Aussie, which absolutely is worth buying for the iconic scent alone. As far as cleansing goes, it deeply washes without stripping the scalps and leaves ends feeling frizz-free and defined, thanks to the inclusion of Australian macadamia nut oil.
10. Aveeno Skin Relief Soothing Shampoo
Aveeno Skin Relief Soothing Shampoo
Finding a shampoo when you suffer with a sensitive scalp, eczema or psoriasis can be an expensive and long journey. However, I can always count on Aveeno to deliver. This soap-free formula cleanses without disrupting the delicate scalp and the inclusion of colloidal oatmeal soothes. Unlike a lot of medicated shampoos made for those with a sensitive scalp, this formula actually smells really pleasant and fresh.
11. ARKIVE All Day Everyday Shampoo
ARKIVE The All Day Everyday Shampoo
No shampoo leaves my hair feeling quite as soft and refreshed as Arkive's Everyday formula. I find that it makes my long hair far less dry and knotty, plus is much more shiny when I reach for this. The thin formula coats the hair well making it lather nicely without having to use too much product. The Future Bloom scent, which is fresh and elegant is another reason to love this product.
It's an excellent all-rounder so if you share the bathroom with family or flatmates, they'll absolutely be stealing this without you knowing.

I’ve Tried Hundreds of Shampoos—This Is the Best for Banishing Grease
As a beauty editor, I am lucky enough to receive samples of some of the bestselling products on the market. From TikTok-viral blushers to luxury designer fragrances and even iconic nail polishes , I've tried it all. As much as I love testing everything out, if you were to ask me which products I would actually repurchase with my own money, I guarantee that the list wouldn't be as long as you'd expect. However, every now and then, a beauty product comes along that knocks me off my feet. Although it would be dramatic of me to say that I couldn't live without this small selection of products, I would go as far as to say that they have revolutionised my beauty routines. Because of this, I always make sure to recommend them to everyone I know.
One product that I get asked about time and time again is shampoo . Before working in beauty, I never really cared about what shampoo I used and would pick up the cheapest one I could find in the supermarket while on my weekly food shop. However, with more and more people interested in how to care for their hair thanks to the rise of the scalp care market, I quickly came to realise just how important this product is for keeping your scalp as healthy as possible. While testing out various shampoos to see which ones I would recommend, I came across the Ouai Detox Shampoo, and now I wonder what I ever did before getting my hands on this product.
Yep, I would definitely repurchase this shampoo time and time again and I've recommended it to pretty much everyone I know. Interested to know what all the hype is about? Keep on scrolling for my in-depth review...
Ouai Detox Shampoo Review
What Does Ouai's Detox Shampoo Do?
Let me start by saying that this is not your normal, everyday shampoo. Instead, this is a clarifying shampoo designed to remove product buildup alongside oil and dirt. The formula contains apple cider vinegar and micellar water that work to remove these impurities and leave your scalp feeling squeaky clean.
The shampoo is also infused with the brand's iconic Melrose Place fragrance. This rose scent features notes of bergamot, lychee, white musk and champagne. My boyfriend always says how good my hair smells when I use this.
Can You Use the Ouai Detox Shampoo Every Day?
Although the brand says to use the shampoo whenever you feel like you need a deeper cleanse, I probably wouldn't recommend using it more than once a week. The reason for this is that the shampoo really does give your hair a good cleanse, and using it every day might leave your hair feeling quite dry. That being said, if you have an oiler scalp or are putting a lot of product in your hair every day, then you might want to up the usage and see how your hair reacts.
The best bit about this shampoo is that it is safe to use on all hair types including colour-treated, keratin-treated and Brazilian blowouts. Just don't forget to apply a nourishing conditioner after using.
Is the Ouai Detox Shampoo Worth It?
So, is this shampoo worth it? I can't tell you how many times I have washed my hair, blow dried it and still felt residue in my roots. However, since getting my hands on this shampoo, I no longer have to worry, as it it easily one of the best clarifying shampoos I have ever used. No matter how much product is in my hair from hairspray to hair oil and pomades and gels, this will always get rid of all that buildup and leave me with fresh, bouncy roots. I've also found that the fresh feeling lasts so much longer thanks to the cleansing formula and beautiful scent.
That being said, it's worth noting that this shampoo isn't cheap. I wouldn't normally spend £28 on a bottle however in my opinion, this product is totally worth it. As mentioned above, I don't use this every day which means that it lasts a lot longer, and you don't need a lot in order to get a deep clean. Overall, if you're someone who uses a lot of product in your hair and struggles to get that "just left the salon" feeling, I highly recommend giving this shampoo a go.
Pros: Removes any product buildup, leaves your hair bouncy and fresh and smells incredible
Cons: More expensive than your average shampoo and I wouldn't recommend using it every day

11 best shampoos for hair growth, according to dermatologists
By Jenny McCoy and Georgia Lockstone
If you’re wrestling with hair loss , you’re likely curious about hair-growth products and whether solutions like the best shampoos for hair growth can be your ticket to healthier strands. Anyone who’s dealt with hair loss knows it can be a mentally taxing experience. “It’s really very emotional for people,” says Joyce Davis, MD , a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon. Often, hair-loss patients come into her office and start crying from the toll of it all, she says.
The thing that’s especially tough about watching your hair fall out (or one day noticing you have less hair than you used to) is there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. What helps one person regrow luscious tresses may do nothing for another. There’s also debate among experts about whether over-the-counter products, like hair-growth shampoos, actually work. Still, some people swear by them, so they may be worth adding to your hair care routine if you’re looking for a potential at-home solution for healthy, faster hair growth — just be sure to keep your expectations in check.
For longer, stronger hair.
By Jenn Barthole
Hair-growth shampoos are “a great starting point for most people,” says Danilo Del Campo, MD , a board-certified dermatologist. With that in mind, we tapped experts for recommendations on which hair-growth shampoos you should consider (many of which are available on Amazon), plus answers to common hair-loss questions.

- Best shampoo for fuller-looking locks: Grow Gorgeous Intense Thickening Shampoo

Meet the experts:
- Joyce Davis, MD , a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon in NYC.
- Michele Green, MD , a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist in NYC.
- Danilo Del Campo, MD , a board-certified dermatologist and partner at Chicago Skin Clinic.
- Steve Daveluy, MD , associate professor and program director of dermatology at Wayne State University.
- Jalia Pettis , a hairstylist and makeup artist based in Phoenix.
Does hair growth shampoo actually work?
As mentioned, there’s no strong consensus among experts about whether hair-growth shampoos actually work. Some doctors, like Dr Green, believe they do make an impact. “Hair-growth shampoos are an excellent way for promoting overall hair health, hair retention, and hair growth,” she says. Others, like Steve Daveluy, MD , associate professor and program director of dermatology at Wayne State University, are skeptical, pointing to a lack of scientific proof about their effectiveness.
Still others take a middle-ground approach, believing certain ones can help as part of a hair care routine, but only to an extent and certainly not for everyone. For instance, Pettis finds hair-growth shampoos to be “hit or miss.” The results, she says, all depend on the underlying cause of someone’s hair loss.
So how can you make sense of the conflicting opinions? Consider hair-growth shampoos as a potential solution. If you’re looking for a way to address hair thinning and loss at home, they may be worth a shot. Just know it may take some trial and error to find one that helps your situation and that results are never guaranteed.
What ingredients should you be looking for in a shampoo for hair growth?
If you decide to try a hair-growth shampoo, Dr Green advises picking products made with the following ingredients:
- Minoxidil: This is an FDA-approved topical medication for reversing hair-follicle miniaturisation. However, for minoxidil to be effective, it needs to penetrate the scalp, which may not happen if applied and rinsed off via a shampoo, explains Dr. Davis. In that case, a dermatologists can prescribe Minoxidil medications that can help.
- Biotin : This vitamin can support keratin production to increase hair volume and density and strengthen the hair shaft. (More on biotin below.)
- Niacin: This antioxidant packs anti-inflammatory properties and strengthens hair follicles to promote overall scalp and hair health.
- Coconut oil and argan oil: These oils contain fatty acids to deeply moisturise and protect hair. Additionally, argan oil has antioxidants to guard hair from free radical damage, while coconut oil contains lauric acid, a fatty acid, to protect the scalp from bacteria and irritants.
- Saw palmetto: This is a natural plant extract that may potentially slow hair loss, and panthenol, a vitamin B that can help hair grow thicker and stronger.
- Rosemary oil and peppermint oil: These antioxidants help reduce stress on the surface of the scalp.
Ahead, the best shampoos for hair growth if you're suffering with fine or thinning tresses.
Best shampoo for fuller-looking locks

Giving your roots more lift and volume is an instant and impactful way to make your locks look more luscious. This richly nourishing shampoo from Grow Gorgeous does just that for lacklustre strands — waking your hair up at the root, and making it appear far fuller. The clever formula contains classic thickening and stimulating ingredients like biotin and caffeine — as well as rice protein which visibly enhances volume and shine, and ProVitamin B5 for improved manageability.

Best shampoo for heat-damaged hair
ArtNaturals Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo
Dr Green praises this product, a great option for repairing thin, brittle, and damaged hair, for its powerful combination of ingredients. It contains argan oil, which helps moisture and soothe a dry scalp and strands; vitamin E, “a powerful antioxidant to protect the hair from free radical damage”; rosemary, which calms an irritated scalp; aloe vera, which revitalises and strengthens hair; and saw palmetto, which can combat hair loss by decreasing the conversion of testosterone to DHT, she says.

- Smells like: 3 options available: avocado, aloe vera, and rosemary.
- Safe for colour-treated hair: Yes.
- Size: 473ml.
- Hair type: Best for all hair types.
Best shampoo for hard water areas
Hello Klean Hard Water Shampoo
As well as coating your hair in a build-up of unwanted minerals that leave it feeling dry, coarse, and dull, hard water makes your strands far more prone to breakage — and can therefore really inhibit growth. The Hello Klean Purifying Shower Head is your best option for filtering out those nasties — but the brand's Hard Water Shampoo will also massively help. Enriched with Bamboo Charcoal and Vitamin C to draw out any minerals and metals in the hair shaft, liquorice root for stimulating growth, hydration-boosting lactic acid, and oat protein for maximum softness and shine, it's the perfect formula for combatting the damage caused by hard water.
- Ingredient highlights: Paraben and phthalates-free.
- Smells like: Doesn't specify.
- Size: 350ml.
Best shampoo for fine hair
Aveda Pure Abundance Volumising Shampoo
Designed specifically with fine and limp tresses in mind, this plant-based shampoo has been made with clever volumising acacia gum — which helps fill out the appearance of fine strands, and leaves your mane looking far more abundant. But arguably the best thing about this shampoo is its gorgeous fresh scent of peppermint and ylang ylang. Stunning!
- Ingredient highlights: Vegan.
- Smells like: Peppermint, ylang ylang, palmarosa, and jasmine.
- Hair type: Best for fine hair.

Best shampoo for curly hair
Adwoa Beauty Blue Tansy Clarifying Gel Shampoo
As someone with curly hair herself (a hair type that can be dry and brittle), Jalia Pettis , a hairstylist and makeup artist based in Phoenix, appreciates how this shampoo clarifies strands , stripping them of buildup, and then moisturises them with natural ingredients, like sea kelp and blue tansy flower oil. Moisturising dry, frizz-prone hair helps with hair growth by combatting the impact of a flaky scalp and fortifying brittle follicles so they’re less prone to breakage, she explains.
Expert tip: Consider buying this shampoo in a set with a matching conditioner and hair oil. “What turned me on to [this brand] was actually the oil,” Pettis says. “I really like how it felt on the scalp without weighing it down.”
- Smells like: Floral.
- Safe for colour-treated hair: yes.
- Size: 414ml.
- Hair type: Best for natural hair types (wavy, curly, kinky, coily).
Best budget shampoo for hair growth
Head & Shoulders Bare Soothing Hydration Anti-Dandruff Shampoo
This product is free of parabens and phthalates, two preservatives known to interfere with your endocrine system, Dr. Del Campo explains. “There's a concern [these ingredients] might do more harm than actual good,” he says, which is why he recommends shampoos made without them. Formulated with just nine ingredients and dermatologically accredited by the Skin Health Alliance (an organisation that independently reviews products for safety and efficacy), this product is “meant for basic stuff that does promote some hair growth,” Dr. Del Campo says.
- Ingredient highlights: Paraben- and phthalates-free.
- Smells like: Aloe, orchid.
- Size: 400ml.
Best shampoo and conditioner set for hair growth
PURA D'OR Gold Label Anti-Thinning Deep Moisturizing Therapy Shampoo & Conditioner Set
If you’re looking to double down on your hair-growth efforts, consider this shampoo-conditioner set from Pura D’or. Dr. Del Campo often recommends this brand to patients as it’s widely available and incorporates a lot of what he looks for in a hair-growth shampoo, including ingredients like biotin and saw palmetto, a “natural plant extract that may potentially slow hair loss,” he says. Plus, it contains antioxidants like rosemary oil, which are good for calming an irritated scalp.
Expert tip: Both the shampoo and conditioner are formulated at 1.5x strength, so use a small amount to start.
- Ingredient highlights: Paraben-free.
- Smells like: Natural scent.
- Size: 473ml per bottle.
Best shampoo for itchy scalps
Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo
Dr. Davis finds that tar-based shampoos, like this one from Neutrogena, often provide extra body to the hair, making it seem thicker. On top of that, the product is designed to combat dandruff , scaling, and itchy scalp (typically due to conditions like seborrhea and psoriasis that impact scalp health), so it may be a good bet if you’re plagued by those issues in addition to hair loss.
Expert tip: This product also comes in an extra-strength formulation, which may be appropriate if you’re dealing with severe scalp health issues.
- Ingredient highlights: Coal tar.
- Smells like: Citrus.
- Safe for colour-treated hair: Unknown.
- Hair type: Best for dry hair and damaged hair.
Best hair growth shampoo for coloured hair
K18 Peptide Prep Detox Shampoo
This professional-grade product is great if you’re looking to target and remove scalp flakiness and also balance the pH of your hair—the latter of which can improve the size of the hair follicle and promote thickness, Pettis says. Plus, it’s suitable for all types of hair textures, she adds.
Expert tip: This shampoo is another with a really good lather, says Pettis, so it suds up easily.
- Ingredient highlights: Silicone-free.
- Smells like: Clean citrus.
- Hair type: Best for all hair textures.
Best shampoo for super clean strands
Mielle Rosemary Mint Strengthening Shampoo
Getting rid of any product build-up is key if you want to kickstart your hair growth journey. This bestselling shampoo gently cleanses the hair — while also infusing each strand with strengthening biotin, and key certified organic ingredients like coconut and babassu seed oil. It brings brittle hair back from the brink of breakage, and leaves it soft and far easy to manage.
- Ingredient highlights: Certified organic ingredients.
- Smells like: Rosemary and mint.
- Size: 355ml.
Best hair growth shampoo for soft and silky locks
L'Oréal Professionnel Serié Expert Absolut Repair Molecular Shampoo
Pettis recently started using this colour-safe product on clients and has “quickly fallen in love with it.” Besides smelling really good (it has an earthy, perfume undertone, she says), it contains a peptides bonder and amino acids that repair the molecular structure of the hair, restoring its strength and elasticity, she explains. Pettis used this strengthening shampoo on a client with colour-treated hair, who “just kept raving” about how soft it left her hair feeling.
Expert tip: This shampoo lathers really well, says Pettis, so start with a small amount. “A little goes a long way,” she says.
- Ingredient highlights: Peptides bonder and amino acids.
- Smells like: Vanilla, floral.
- Hair type: Best for extremely dry, damaged hair.
How does hair-growth shampoo work?
Again, there are mixed opinions here. Dr. Davis says hair-growth shampoos “are probably misnamed.” Instead of actually growing new hair, “mostly they make the hair seem thicker,” she explains. Perhaps the term “thickening shampoo” would be more apt. Dr. Del Campo says hair-growth shampoos can help “address the skin health issues to optimize it for best potential growth.” He gives the analogy of the head being like a forest, where the trees are your hair and the soil is your skin. “If the forest is on fire, it doesn't matter what you are trying to do to promote more tree growth—you gotta first treat the actual fire, turn off any inflammation, and make sure the soil is the best it can be.” This is where shampoos fit in: They can “calm things down” and “set the stage” for hopefully more regrowth, he explains.
Are there any biotin side effects?
There shouldn’t be any side effects of taking topical biotin via a shampoo, Dr. Davis says. But biotin supplements are a different story. They can affect the results of some blood tests, including one for your thyroid and one for your heart, Dr. Daveluy says. That’s why he advises against using them but warns that, if you do, “make sure you tell all your doctors.”
What causes hair loss?
There are lots of different reasons behind hair loss. Factors like age, genetics, hormones, medical conditions, and stress can all contribute, Dr. Green says. Regarding age, as we grow older, “our hair follicles’ size decreases, leading to thinner, shorter hairs,” she explains. “This natural aging process can be exacerbated by genetics, as patients can be genetically more prone to thinning and hair-follicle miniaturisation.”
Hormonal changes, like those that happen during pregnancy, postpartum, or menopause, can also play a role, and so can medical conditions, like thyroid and autoimmune disorders, she says.
Moreover, chronic stress can be to blame, as it can “trigger an immune response that attacks and damages hair follicles, causing hair loss,” Dr. Green says.
Another culprit: Metabolic problems, like iron deficiency anemia (a condition whereby you don’t have enough iron in your body), adds Dr. Davis. “Hair is just a protein, but it's the least important protein your body produces,” she says. So if your body doesn’t have all the vitamins and amino acid ingredients it needs to produce proteins, then hair “is the first thing your body will skimp on.” Additionally, COVID-19 infection can be another cause of hair shedding and loss. “This typically occurs after recovering from the illness,” Dr. Davis says.
What are other hair-loss treatments?
For the most bang for your buck, consider a minoxidil 5% solution, Dr. Daveluy says: “Minoxidil has the best evidence of any over-the-counter hair-loss product.” Originally developed as a medication to lower blood pressure, minoxidil helps your blood vessels relax. “We aren't 100% sure how it helps hair growth, but we believe it relaxes the blood vessels in the scalp, which allows more blood flow to reach the hairs and nourish their growth,” he says.
You can also try certain prescription medications that either block DHT (a male hormone that can increase hair-follicle miniaturization) or decrease androgen production. These include propecia, dutasteride, and spironolactone, says Dr. Green.
Pricier potential solutions for hair loss include laser treatments, which can help regrow hair, as well as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments, which involve a doctor drawing your blood, spinning it down, extracting the platelets, and injecting them into your scalp to help stimulate growth, Dr. Davis says.
“PRP injections require minimal downtime and are incredibly safe, as the PRP is taken from the patient’s own blood supply,” says Dr. Green. “Typically, an initial series of treatments is recommended, followed by regular maintenance sessions, to achieve the best restoration results.”

The Best Photos of the British Royal Family on Easter 2024
King Charles and Queen Camilla were joined by a small group of Windsors at church today.

While it's unclear whether or not the modern day Windsors participate in an Easter egg hunt on the grounds of the estate, royals of centuries past have enjoyed the tradition; In 1833, 14-year-old Princess Victoria (the future Queen Victoria), wrote in a letter , "Mama did some pretty painted & ornamented eggs, & we looked for them." Years later, she and her husband Prince Albert continued this tradition for their children; in a journal entry in 1869, Queen Victoria wrote , "After breakfast, the children, as usual on this day looked for Easter eggs."
This year's Easter gathering will look different from previous years , as Prince William and Kate Middleton won't be in attendance with their children following the news of Kate's cancer diagnosis , and due to King Charles's cancer diagnosis, it was a much smaller group.
Here, see all the best photos of King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the rest of the royal family in Windsor on Easter 2024:

James, Earl of Wessex was the only member of the younger generation of royals in attendance. (He's 16, and the youngest of the late Queen Elizabeth's grandchildren .)
Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, hasn't attended the Easter Mattins Service since 1991 , before her divorce from Prince Andrew, but was there today.

UK weather: Hottest day of the year expected - and warning of 70mph winds as Storm Kathleen moves in
A mixed picture is forecast for Saturday as parts of East Anglia and southeast England could top Portugal and bask in temperatures in the low 20s.

The UK is expected to see the hottest day of the year so far today - with towns and cities set to bask in balmy temperatures while others are battered by 70mph winds.
The Met Office said temperatures are likely to reach up to 22C (72F) on Saturday as unseasonably warm air from the continent brings sunny spells to parts of the country.
Ellie Glaisyer, a meteorologist for the forecaster, said that Storm Kathleen "is the reason we are seeing the warmer temperatures, because the location of the storm - situated out towards the west of the UK - is bringing a southerly wind across the UK".
Met Office spokesman Stephen Dixon added that "it's not unusual for these storm systems to bring warmer air with them".
The highest temperature of the year so far was 19.9C (68F), recorded at the end of January at Achfary in northwest Scotland.
Meanwhile a mixed picture is set for today - with the forecaster earlier updating its warnings to say stronger gusts are more likely over the weekend as Kathleen batters the western parts of Britain.
Gusts of 50mph are widely expected and exposed places could see 60mph to 70mph.
Yellow weather warnings have been issued for wind in areas - covering Cornwall, much of Wales, parts of Lancashire and Cumbria, and up into central Scotland and Northern Ireland from 8am to 10pm.
Ms Glaisyer also said that the storm is likely to bring heavy rain overnight, "which will spread its way northwards across the country". By the morning, most places should see "a relatively dry start to Saturday".
Temperatures in the low twenties are also expected in southeast England, but the forecaster added that "the further west you are, where those strongest winds are in that yellow warning area, despite the temperatures being above average it will feel a little colder".
The Met Office's update on yellow wind warnings said: "Stronger gusts are now expected across some parts of the warning area, with likelihood also increased."
It said there was a risk of "injuries and danger to life" from large waves and beach material being thrown on to sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.
It added road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible.
There could also be power cuts and mobile phone coverage may also be affected.

Mr Dixon added: "The outlook for Sunday for much of the UK is for showery conditions to continue particularly in northern and western areas again.
"It will generally feel a touch drier the further south-east you go through the day on Sunday as Kathleen gradually moves away northwards."
He added that the start of next week would see unsettled weather conditions with "rain continuing for many".
#StormKathleen has been named by @MetEireann and is forecast to bring strong winds to Ireland and much of the UK on Saturday Stay #weatheraware pic.twitter.com/dcDmifdqjL — Met Office (@metoffice) April 4, 2024
Storm Kathleen has been named by Ireland's national forecaster Met Eireann, which has issued its own warnings covering the whole country and urged the public to be "vigilant".
Cork, Kerry, Galway and Mayo are set to be the worst affected.
They are under an amber alert, meaning "very difficult travel conditions" and potential fallen trees, power outages and coastal flooding.

How to Get a Refund on Recalled Tide, Gain, Ace and Ariel Laundry Pods
Proctor & Gamble has issued a massive voluntary recall due to risk of serious injury.
How to get a refund
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that Tide Pods, Gain Flings, Ace Pods and Ariel Pods sold in flexible film bags between September 2023 and February 2024 have been recalled.
The CPSC states that the packaging can split open, creating a greater risk of ingestion and/or skin and eye injuries, specifically for children.
So far, there are no confirmed cases directly related to this packaging defect. However, the CPSC states, "the firm has received four reports of children in the United States accessing the liquid laundry packets, three of which reported ingestion during the time period that the recalled lots were sold, but it is not known if these laundry packets came from recalled bags."
According to the CPSC, "ingestion of large amounts of a surfactant-containing household cleaning product may result in death among those who have underlying health issues."
"This recall underscores the importance of keeping laundry detergent packs, and all cleaning products, out of sight and reach of children and pets during use and when you store them," says Home Care & Cleaning Lab Executive Director Carolyn Forté .
A full list of recalled products
The products range from bags of 12 to 39 pods, and these items were sold at Big Lots, CVS, Family Dollar, Home Depot, Sam's Club, Target, Walmart, Amazon and more.

You can go to pg.com/bag to find a full list of recalled lot codes. Compare these codes with the one found on the bottom of your bag to ensure you don't have a recalled product.
If you do have one of the impacted products, you can contact P&G to get a refund, as well as replacement packaging and even a cabinet lock to secure the pods and other laundry products. All you have to do is send them a photo of the product, with the lot of number clearly visible.

I Used to Work in Beauty Retail, and These Are the 14 Things To Shop During Sephora’s Spring Sale From $9
Snag discounts on top-tier brands like Rare Beauty, Charlotte Tilbury, Summer Fridays, and more this week.
We independently evaluate all recommended products and services. If you click on links we provide, we may receive compensation. Learn more .
Travel + Leisure
As far as major shopping events go in the beauty world, few are as big of a deal as Sephora’s Savings Event . And as a former beauty retail employee with plenty of experience working sales of this caliber, I can confidently say that the Sephora spring sale is my Super Bowl. From now until Monday, April 15, you can save up to 30 percent on popular brands like Charlotte Tilbury , Kosas , Rare Beauty , and more; all you have to do is apply the promo code YAYSAVE at checkout.
But here’s the catch: to access the Spring Sale at Sephora, you need to be a Beauty Insider Member . But don’t fret, this membership program is free to join, making it accessible for everyone to get in on the fun (and giving shoppers more perks to enjoy long after the sale is over). Actually, there's another catch. The amount that you'll save depends on your Beauty Insider Member tier. Beginner-level Insider Members can snag 10 percent off everything, while VIB Members can access 15 percent off sitewide. On the other hand, Rouge Members can score 20 percent off during the sale. But, there's still good news for those who haven't moved up in the Sephora ranks yet: regardless of tier, all members can save 30 percent on the entire Sephora Collection .
With so many products on sale, I went ahead and outlined my top travel beauty picks that I highly recommend checking out before the Sephora Savings Event ends. Keep scrolling to shop the sale like a pro and find your new favorite toiletry bag additions. Don’t forget: use the code YAYSAVE at checkout to unlock 10 to 30 percent off on each of these items.
Sephora Collection Microsmooth Multi-tasking Baked Face Powder Foundation
If you have especially oily skin in the spring and summer and want a one-and-done product that’ll provide coverage and some pore-mattifying magic, then check out this smoothing powder foundation (especially while it's on sale for $14 this week). This product comes double vetted by my grandma and I; she’s tried plenty of formulas, but just loves how this one “gives a nice, natural, medium finish that doesn’t settle into [her] fine lines and wrinkles too much.”
Sephora Collection Cleansing Balm
As much as I love a good face wash, few cleansing products compare to the effectiveness that you get from a cleansing balm. And considering all of the oil and dirt that you pick up throughout a day of travel, cleansing balms emerge as the do-it-all hero by providing a deep clean that practically melts your makeup, breaks down sunscreen, and gets that gunk out of your pores — all while providing some extra (and much-needed) moisture. Beyond its amazing skincare benefits, this product is an absolute steal right now at $9.
Supergoop! Mini Glowscreen SPF 40
If there’s one product that you should absolutely prioritize during this savings event, it's a high-quality SPF. And while there are plenty on the market, Supergoop is trusted by Travel + Leisure editors for its next-level protection and better-for-you ingredients. And we particularly love this glowy formula that offers a luminescent finish, leaving you with smoother, brighter-looking skin. In fact, it works so effectively that you might even consider leaving your foundation at home and relying solely on this SPF for sun protection and dewy skin.
The Inkey List Caffine De-puffing + Dark Circle Eye Cream
I have (and love) this eye cream so much that I continually go back to it even after trying more expensive name-brand products. The brand got its start at Sephora and quickly became a fan-favorite for its straight to the point, no-frills ingredient-packed formulas that actually work. It’s formulated with plenty of caffeine to de-puff tired bags, peptides to improve the appearance of dark circles, and other skin-friendly ingredients to reduce those pesky signs of long travel days by leaving you fresh, energized, and refreshed. Oh, and to make it even more universally friendly, it’s fragrance-free for those with sensitive skin.
Glow Recipe Plum Plump Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer
As much as I love an in-depth, 12-step skincare routine, if I had to prioritize just one item, it would be a high-quality moisturizer with skin-friendly add-ons. The stress of travel can wreak havoc on your skin and deplete it of much-needed moisture, so if you’re looking for a stellar moisturizer to compliment your skin, then consider this one that’s formulated with hyaluronic acid to lock in extra moisture and plump up fine lines for a dewy, supple complexion that feels instantly nourished and looks radiant. Insider tip: Glow Recipe products hardly ever go on sale like this, so don't let this opportunity pass you by.
Sunday Riley Good Genes All-in-one AHA Lactic Acid Treatment
Sephora is the destination for all of the top-rated and best-selling anti-aging treatments. And while it can be a bit overwhelming navigating all of the different products and active ingredients, it's best to start simple with one serum that can do double (or even triple ) duty. I recommend this one from Sunday Riley that is formulated with lactic acid, which gently exfoliates your skin to stimulate collagen, improves skin texture, shrinks pores, and reduces dark spots and fine lines over time. It may be on the pricier side, but its effective formula makes it well worth the splurge, especially when combined with its limited-time discount. Plus, it'll help you simplify your travel beauty routine since it's so many products in one.
Summer Fridays Mini Jet Lag Mask + Moisturizer
It’s no secret that stale airplane air and general travel chaos can seriously dry out your skin, and while I haven’t personally tried this two-in-one mask and moisturizer from Summer Fridays, I immediately added it to my cart after seeing that it has over 4,000 perfect ratings from shoppers — one of whom quipped that it made their skin feel like “it drank a [bottle] of Gatorade.” I honestly haven’t read a review as convincing as that in a while, but that combined with its super skincare-charged formula of niacinamide, glycerin, and hyaluronic acid makes me excited to use this extra-nourishing mask after a long travel day. It can even double as a moisturizer when I know I’m going to be spending the day on a plane (or if I'll need to streamline my beauty packing list for a trip).
Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip and Cheek Secrets Set
There have been plenty of TikTok-famous beauty products that have come and gone over the years, but few have remained as well-loved as these Charlotte Tilbury beauty wands. Back in my beauty retail days, I always recommended value sets to shoppers as a way to save money on big-ticket items, and this set comes equipped with two travel-sized beauty wands (one blush shade and one bronzer shade) and two full-sized lip products from the brand's famous Pillow Talk line — all for $50.
Tower 28 SunnyDays SPF 30 Tinted Sunscreen
When you’re packing your toiletry bag for a trip, it's best to streamline your products as much as you can to save precious space. For just that, I love traveling with this tinted SPF that acts as a sunscreen and glowy foundation. I’m not the only one that loves sensitive skin-friendly sunscreen, one T+L writer raved that “this product saves time and does double duty by evening out my skin tone while also protecting from the sun, no matter the season.”
Sol De Janeiro Bom Dia Bright Jet Set
Sol de Janeiro has won over the internet with its tropical vacation-reminiscent scented lotions, sprays, and body washes. With this value set, which comes with a trio of lotion, body spray, and shower gel, you can bring your favorite body care products with you on the road (and avoid using those ultra-drying hotel toiletries altogether). Plus, it's a cost-effective way to sample the brand before committing to purchasing the pricier full-sized versions.
Milk Makeup Mini Hydro Grip Primer
The key to making your makeup last on a busy travel day is a high-quality primer, and this Milk Makeup Hydro Grip formula acts like glue for your makeup by keeping it from cracking, creasing, and fading. But don’t be scared of its gripping qualities, this primer is also formulated with skin-friendly ingredients such as niacinamide and hyaluronic acid to add a bit of extra moisture, too. In fact, it works so well that a firefighter said that after applying, their “makeup looked just as fresh after a 24-hour shift as it did when I first put it on.” If that doesn’t convince you, I don't know what will — well, maybe that it's on sale.
Kosas Revealer Super Creamy + Brightening Concealer With Caffeine and Hyaluronic Acid
I have tried a lot of concealers over the past decade. If I had to guess, it would be somewhere around 40 to 50 different formulas, so believe me when I saw that this is hands-down the best concealer that I own. In addition to providing a medium-coverage natural finish, it's also formulated with hyaluronic acid to keep my under-eyes from looking fatigued and dry. And if you're someone looking for full-coverage, this concealer also layers like a dream without looking too cakey. I’m using this sale as an opportunity to stock up on this top-tier concealer, and I highly recommend that you do the same.
Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush
If given the time, I could probably write a 50-page research paper on the impact that this Rare Beauty liquid blush has had on the beauty industry in its short time on the shelves. As far as liquid makeup goes, its long-lasting, pigmented formula truly changed the game and while many brands have tried to replicate its success, none compare to its stunning finish and all-day wear. A little goes a long way, so much so that if you were to wear this blush every single day for a year, you would barely hit the half-way mark on the tube (I know this because that’s the exact situation I’m in right now). If I were you, I’d snag a bottle while it's on sale this week so you can see its stunning finish for yourself.
Tower 28 LipSoftie Hydrating Tinted Lip Treatment Balm
If you are looking for a lip balm that provides excellent hydration, consider this dermatologist-approved lip treatment balm that’s formulated with ultra-moisturizing shea butter, jojoba, and lysine; it not only provides immediate relief, but it can even prevent future chapped lips. Additionally, the tinted balm shades provide a subtle, natural-looking color to your lips, so you can leave your lipstick or lip gloss at home. And, it's not sticky and comes in a convenient tube for on-the-go application, which is why it's my top recommendation for travelers.
This is just a taste of the amazing Sephora Savings Event deals. Keep reading for other travel-friendly and top-rated beauty, skin, and haircare finds to shop before the sale is up.
