At the end of each year, when I take the time to look back on all the homes we’ve featured on Clever, it never ceases to amaze me (and impress me! and inspire extreme jealously in me!) what people can do with their homes. There are renters who have figured out how to turn less than 600 square feet into a breezy oasis. There are minimalists who will make you want to give away all your clutter. There are homeowners who truly know how to pick a perfect paint color . From Australia to France, Rome to Rotterdam, the incredible spaces keep on coming.

We dug into our archive of home tours and found 2022’s fan favorites. From a sleek duplex in Long Island City to a handful of gems in Brooklyn and LA, these homes highlight the best of design and space. Get inspired by 12 of the best Clever home tours from 2022.

This 592-Square-Foot Sydney Home Shows Off Compact Functionality

Yasmine Ghoniem (right), founder of design studio YSG, and her husband, Tom Swanson.

“At its core, my outlook is nourished by the layers of my culture and travels,” says Yasmine Ghoniem, founder and principal of YSG Studio . Yasmine, who has an Australian mother and an Egyptian father, grew up between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia—with a few years in-between in Australia—and almost a decade in America for postgraduate studies and work. “Like all YSG spaces, everything in my home is interconnected and there is no hierarchy.”

After renting a place in another Sydney suburb for some time, Yasmine and her husband, Tom Swanson, were ready to take the big leap toward home ownership. “Several months of online searching [brought us to] this golden find,” Yasmine says. Situated on a building’s upper level in the city’s iconic oceanside neighborhood of Bondi, the compact 592-square-foot apartment immediately seduced Tom—who is “a mad surfer,” according to Yasmine—with its beachside location. It didn’t take much more to convince the interior designer, who loved the sensible layout. “It shares no common walls and has no internal corridor, meaning absolutely no space is wasted,” she says. “Tall ceilings were the added kicker. Original timber-framed windows were also a requirement.” — Karine Monié

This Long Island City Duplex Is Its Own Hidden Gem of Beautiful Objects

A Charlotte Perriand coffee table for Cassina is surrounded by Olivier Mourgue’s Djinn ottomans upholstered in a wool bouclé. A Ron Rezek green table lamp sits beside the sectional, and a Sergio Mazza’s Alfa lamp is on the coffee table.

Alan Eckstein has mastered the art of the search. As the founder of Somerset House, a Brooklyn furniture store that’s cultivated from his collection, Alan has the type of knowledge for chairs, consoles, and tables that any professor would have for a subject.

Alan and his wife, fashion stylist Haley Loewenthal , lived in a one-bedroom apartment when the pandemic hit. And though it felt like home, it was missing one detail that suddenly took on a profound amount of importance. “We didn’t have any outdoor space,” he says. “We also wanted to start a family, and there wasn’t room for an extra person to join us there. We knew that in order to grow, or to even have somewhere to exhale, we needed to move.” So, Alan began to do what he does best: search.

The 2,500-square-foot duplex in New York’s Long Island City had two bedrooms and two floors, providing more than enough space for the couple to spread out. It was almost as if Craigslist, a long-beloved treasure chest for Alan, had come through for him again. “I think it was available because of the pandemic,” he notes. “My wife and I were looking for an interesting open space with character. This apartment has that, and the best part about it is that it also has a private roof deck.” — Kelly Dawson

Noah Venezia (left) and Megan Hershman in their Brooklyn apartment.

When Megan Hershman, a design director at Common Living, and her husband—Noah Venezia, a graphic designer and adjunct professor at Pratt Institute—stumbled upon the top floor of this two-story town house in Carroll Gardens , it was the abundance of natural light that instantly hooked them. “The unit is north and south-facing, and gets direct sun for most of the day,” Megan says. “We immediately knew it was right for us.” In addition to good lighting, the couple appreciated the old-world charms of the building, like the tin ceilings, cast-iron built-in kitchen sink, and original hardwood floors. “We also loved the old-school charm of the pink bathroom, which felt so playful and one-of-a-kind,” Megan adds. — Monica Mendal

Not much more than 600 square feet, Fanny Singer ’s Rudolph Schindler apartment is housed in a 16-unit complex from the 1920s that has a semi-commune feeling with its interconnected living spaces and garden walkways. As each apartment was given its own identity, Fanny has loved figuring out how to live in this vision. “There is a vast array of different apartments in the building,” she says. “The one across the way is a double-height apartment with an incredible wall of windows. Mine is oriented toward the Hollywood sign—a perfect painting studio.”

The writer and cofounder of design brand Permanent Collection thinks that even though Schindler was an iconic LA architect, the space doesn’t have a particularly local feeling. “The shapes are very Russian Constructivism.” This idea rings true in the wood features, the fireplace, and the shape of the ceiling. “Schindler was very specific with his work. He designed with an idea of exactly how people should live,” Fanny says. “I haven’t become one of those people who are totally obsessed with Schindler, but he becomes part of your psyche.” — Zoë Sessums

Taking Rustic Vibes to New Heights in This Stunning California A-Frame

Bringing things right back up to date, a large floor rug from Cold Picnic injects a sense of modernism to the space. Vintage pieces, including a 1960s dome floor lamp, glass coffee table, and chairs by Marcel Breuer , are judiciously situated, layering the spaces and echoing the home’s midcentury history.

A serene rural setting where you’re surrounded by towering trees, rugged mountains, and shimmering lakes is the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of city life. So naturally, when SoCal dwellers Gloria Noto , founder of organic cosmetics line Noto Botanics , and her partner, designer Ash Owens , first set eyes on the arresting 1,900-square-foot rustic hideaway that they now own, they knew it would reshape their lives. And not just in its triangular A-frame form, but by providing both a personal refuge and workspace.

Located in the remote wilderness of Crestline, California, with its cozy cabins and quaint cottages, their 1964-built midcentury marvel is the first home the creative couple have bought together. “I was in LA and Ash was commuting between there and New York, so we really wanted to find a home for all of us,” Gloria says. She shares a dog, Mio, and cats, Holly and Benny, with Ash. “I still keep a loft in the Arts District so we can go back and forth, but it’s nice having the option to step away from the city now, and to submerge ourselves into this sanctuary we’ve created.” — Kate Lawson

Patrick Janelle Transforms a Rundown Rental Into a Chic New York City Loft

When Patrick signed his lease, he thought the fireplace was functional. As it turns out, he can’t use it, but it still adds character to the place.

Patrick Janelle always dreamed of living in a downtown Manhattan loft . The lifestyle influencer, who also runs the talent agency Untitled Secret , fantasized about an airy and industrial home as he spent the past decade climbing the rungs of the New York City housing ladder. So when he grew out of his most recent abode, a compact yet curated SoHo apartment, he knew it was time to actualize his goal.

“I’m very romantic in my ideals about how I envision things for myself and my life in New York,” Patrick shares. “I’ve always made a point that I wanted to be in Manhattan—as cool as I think Brooklyn is—and I never have had this quintessential loft moment.”

Since Patrick couldn’t afford to buy the type of spacious loft he’d been lusting after, he focused his hunt on rentals that would allow him to renovate. After a handful of viewings, he found exactly what he was looking for: a generous three-bedroom in an early 20th-century factory building with a very lenient landlord. He adored the prime Flatiron location too. — Morgan Goldberg

A Charming 200-Square-Foot Apartment on Paris’s Left Bank

The beautiful 19th-century floor tiles and the fireplace were original to the building. Throughout the loft, discreetly integrated storage is present, sometimes highlighted with bronzed brass details.

You might assume that a 200-square-foot apartment would be the home of a student on a budget or maybe a short-term rental for travelers. This apartment, however, belongs to a successful businesswoman who lives outside of Paris and was in need of a small pied-à-terre in the capital.

Pauline Lorenzi-Boisrond was commissioned to renovate the studio on the rue du Cherche-Midi. “She comes to Paris regularly for work, but she had grown tired of impersonal hotel rooms where she can’t leave her things from one visit to the next,” Pauline, the interior designer and founder of Studio Ett Hem , explains. “She wanted her own little suite in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area.” Ett hem means “house” in Swedish. It is indeed a fitting name for a designer tasked with overcoming the limitations of the space to bring out its homey charms. — Nicolas Milon

Eight-foot-long drawers offer storage beneath the bed.

Like most people with internet access, Corey Kingston is obsessed with scrolling through the real estate listings on Zillow . The New York–based architect could argue that this hobby doubles as valuable market research for Le Whit , the design studio she founded with Liza Curtiss, but its most fruitful reward was the discovery of a Lower East Side apartment she could actually afford.

The 400-square-foot residence popped up on Corey’s screen during a heat wave, so she quickly put in an offer while the city was a ghost town. It was accepted thanks to the lack of competition and her instant connection with the seller, who was giving up the place to enroll in a Philadelphia architecture school. They bonded over an appreciation for the early-20th-century building’s history as a tenement and then a squatter property. — Morgan Goldberg

This Enchanting Los Angeles Apartment Was the Longtime Home of Mae West

Image may contain Furniture Couch Living Room Indoors Room Human and Person

A visual centerpiece of the apartment is Kimberly’s “wall of kooks.” It includes portraits she’s picked up through the years. Here, the small black table next to the leather chair was owned by Mary Pickford, the red pen on the coffee table was owned by Zsa Zsa Gabor, and the perfume on the table was owned by Mae West.

Designer Kimberly Biehl ’s fascination with old Hollywood began as a child. That was around the same time that her quest to discover and bring new life to old pieces also began. She started shopping at estate sales, garage sales, and flea markets in her teens. “As soon as I could drive, that’s where I was,” she says.

It’s no wonder then that Kimberly’s own home is filled with old Hollywood relics and classic furniture pieces she’s breathed new life into. What is a wonder, though, is that it’s happening in a piece of old Hollywood itself. Kimberly lives in the former apartment of Mae West, in the historic Ravenswood apartment building. — Lauren Harkawik

Art Imitates Life in This Bauhaus-Inspired Brooklyn Apartment

Vicente (left) and Audrey pose in their living room.

Raised by two aesthetes in an historic 1899 house in Hartford, Connecticut, Audrey Rose Smith had an art-filled childhood. Her father was a preservation architect, and her mother ran an art gallery, so their home was constantly host to artists and their work. It’s only logical that Audrey later became a gallerist herself.

It also makes sense that she swiftly fell in love with a fellow creative. Only eight months after meeting Ecuadorian photographer and designer Vicente Muñoz , the pair jointly purchased their prewar Clinton Hill apartment in Brooklyn. They married soon after, partnering in matrimony as well as real estate without looking back.

Eight years later, the couple has cultivated a tight-knit and like-minded community in the neighborhood. Turn-of-the-century buildings by architects like William Tubby, Montrose Morris, and Ebenezer L. Roberts pepper the streets where they frequently run into friends and colleagues. “It feels like an art world sitcom,” Audrey quips. “The farmers market is really exciting.” — Morgan Goldberg

Jewel Tones Heighten This 700-Square-Foot Rome Apartment

A green kitchen in a Rome apartment counter stools green cabinets and wood cabinets

Counter stools offer a space for guests to accompany the chef in the kitchen. Wood elements further reflect the forest-inspired colored choice for the cabinetry.

“I think of a house as a complicated machine in which something new breaks down every day: a lamp, a faucet, a lock, an electric socket, the boiler, the refrigerator …. But when we can forget about the responsibility of continuous maintenance, we feel happy. Then the other side of the coin, opposed to the responsibilities of ownership, is sheer gratitude.”

That was the thinking of Álvaro Siza, the great Portuguese architect who, at the age of 89, continues to inspire a younger generation. In their space, design duo Eugenia Rolando and Federico Patacchiola of Paros Architettura —a couple in life as well as at work—start from these very words to create subtly inventive places.

A prime example of their work is Casa Costantino, a small but elegant Rome apartment. The building, a 1960s structure in the Ostiense district , is a stone’s throw from the famous Garbatella area. The 700-square-foot apartment is all modern, and thanks to Paros Architettura, it’s been transformed from an old family home full of memories into a light-flooded environment with a contemporary feel. — Ludovica Stevan

A Rotterdam Apartment Is Filled With One Artistic Couple’s Many Vintage Finds

Image may contain Clothing Shoe Footwear Apparel Human Person Plant Vase Pottery Jar Flower Ornament and Art

Jeroen (left), Stéphane, and their dog, Henry.

Stéphane Monnet and Jeroen Dijkstra either have good luck, good timing, or simply the good sense to know when something just feels right. When they were apartment hunting in Rotterdam, the Netherlands , Stéphane was seeking out distinctly European surroundings—since he was moving from Toronto—and they found them in a one-bedroom property, downtown. “With all of its flourishes, huge windows, and open spaces, it was a perfect fit,” Stéphane says. “It was already snatched up, but that deal fell through at the last minute.”

Set inside a building from the 1880s, facing a busy street on one end and a verdant courtyard on the other, their home had been recently restored to reflect what existed way back when. Intricate crown molding sprawled across ceilings while wainscoting lined the lower half of the walls, and that artistry was painted in shades of green to contrast the white in between. Windows stretched over their contrasting outdoor views, and plenty of light streamed in. The couple also had a private balcony to share, in case they ever wanted a closer look at the birds, whose pleasant song woke them in the morning. — Kelly Dawson

Exclusive: Retta of ‘Ugliest House in America’ Reveals the Homely Features She Actually Adores

Exclusive: Retta of ‘Ugliest House in America’ Reveals the Homely Features She Actually Adores

While beautiful houses are certainly easy on the eyes, ugly houses have their own allure, too. And the HGTV show “ Ugliest House in America ” is back to prove it on Season 5.

On the show’s latest season, which premieres April 22, comedian Retta travels across the country to visit homes that have been deemed particularly unsightly by their owners. At the end of the season, one house is named the homelist of all and receives a $150,000 renovation.

While these unattractive houses are certainly a sight to see, Retta’s hilarious reactions keep fan laughing—instead of just horrified.

Curious to learn more, we spoke with Retta about the worst (and best) features she saw this season, plus what buyers might want to consider before purchasing an ugly house themselves.

Is there anything different about Season 5 of “Ugliest House” that fan should look forward to?

The houses are weirder. I mean, there’s one home that’s like covered— covered in mirrors. There’s some parts of these homes that people are so afraid of that they literally won’t explore that part of the house.

And I’m like, “How have you lived here? You don’t know what’s like back there?” But I think, you can’t be scared of your home. You can’t. You can’t have spaces you’ve never encountered because you’re scared to get somebody to go in there.

One house had a door—not a full door. It’s a small door. But there’s a space behind it. And they’re like, “Yeah, we’re not going.” It’s surprising how many people won’t go into a part of their house.

What is the weirdest or grossest thing that you’ve seen in these houses so far?

Well, I talk about it all the time, but I’m always stunned about carpeting in bathrooms. There was carpeting in one particular bathroom that actually went all the way up to the edge of the tub. Which, I mean, I was like, “There’s mold in here right? There’s no way there’s not mold here because there’s no way you got out of this tub without wetting the carpet at the edge of the tub and down the steps to the floor and all throughout.”

Also, I believe it was the first season where I was in a house where they talked about how a snake fell from the ceiling, and I was like, “Hard pass, hard pass.” Other people have had bats in their attic; that’s another thing I’m not interested in participating in.

Retta on "Ugliest House in America"

Have you seen any features you actually liked?

Yes! Sometimes I see really ornate fixtures, like a faucet or something like that. It’s something that was probably hot in the ’70s, but it’s kitschy now, and I think would look cool in a modern space.

There was also one house with this gorgeous red tub. The previous owner dedicated each room to a color and this bathroom had red carpeting, of course, but it also had this red tub with gold feet that were gorgeous.

That same home actually had a room that looked like a ’70s diner, which was probably their game room. I thought the room was really cool. And, you know, it was an old look, but if they they fixed up the space and redid the wallpaper, it would be gorgeous.

Has anything gone unexpectedly wrong during your home tours?

Sometimes these houses are old, and they can be unsafe. And we had a point, I think it was in Season 3, where one of our cameramen was shooting and the railing behind him fell and crashed to the first floor.

It was the most stunning, scary moment. And luckily, no one was standing under the railing and the cameraman wasn’t far enough back to actually fall down, so we were like, “Wow, somebody’s watching over us.” But it was one of those times where I was like, “This is the house you live in. The railings just fell down!”

Retta on "Ugliest House in America"

Have you ever lived in an ugly house?

Oh yeah, I lived in a studio apartment that had those old cabinets, and you could see the peeling wallpaper on the inside. That apartment wasn’t cute, but I made it work!

The market is competitive these days, and I bet lots of people are thinking of buying an ugly home and renovating it. Do you have any advice for them?

Some people who are buying an ugly home think they’re going to be able to renovate it themselves, and my advice is: Think about it. Make a budget. You have to have an idea of what it’s going to cost and what you’re capable of. Not everybody can run electricity for a house. Stop trying to be a hero—you’re gonna have to contract that out.

So have a plan before you buy. You’ve got to think about it and at least consult with a professional. And even then, you might have to do the renovation slowly. I’ve seen people do it where they just demo everything. And then they can’t finish and you’re like, “Well, did you not know what this was gonna take?” You need a plan.

12 Incredible Youtube Museum Channels You MUST Watch

best youtube house tours

During this time of stay-at-home order and travel restrictions, art galleries and museums have jumped on the virtual gallery bandwagon. If you’re an art lover who doesn’t  love to read , these  Museum Youtube Tours  are just the things for you! Many museums and organizations have a massive backlog of online videos that take you through their collections. In these videos, you get introduced to new artists and learn DIYs based on historical artistry. And best of all, they let you in some secrets only the curators know! If you want a little break from the every day and feel like a virtual escape, read on for my favourite  Youtube Museum Tours  part of my series on  virtual travel .

best youtube house tours

British Museum

The British Museum in London, England, is where you can find over two million years of human history and culture. It contains some world-famous objects, including the Rosetta Stone , the Parthenon sculptures and Egyptian mummies .

best youtube house tours

Curator’s Corner

Their youtube series called ‘ Curator’s Corner ‘ introduces you to the various curators working in the museum. They take the time to show you different interesting objects from their specialties. And most of the videos are set, literally in their “corner” or office space. This is just another little treat since you feel like you are being let into their private world. Never to be seen otherwise. One of my favourite curators is  Naomi Speakman , who is the curator for late medieval Europe . She loves exploring the fantastical world of medieval bestiaries and the mythical creatures found within. Seeing as these items are so old it’s amazing how she breathes new life into them!

Curator’s Tour

Since many museums’ exhibitions were not viewable to the public when the world shut down, the curators turned to online video to take viewers on a tour of their displays. These tours come in both shorter videos and live tours, which are hour-long specials hosted by various experts. It’s such a unique way to view these incredible exhibitions despite not being there in person.

The Mütter Museum

The Mütter Museum is America’s Finest Museum of Medical History . The museum aims to help the public appreciate the mysteries and beauty of the natural human body. The museum hopes to help people learn more about the diagnosis and disease treatment throughout history. Inside the museum, you’ll find some of the most incredible collections of anatomical specimens, medical instruments, cabinets of curiosity and more!

While the museum is not for the faint-hearted, their videos are an extraordinary adventure! Especially when we are amid a world-wide pandemic, their exhibitions on the 1918 Influenza Pandemic seem almost eerily apt. Their half-hour-long museum tour is an excellent introduction to what the museum is all about and worth your time to check out!

National Portrait Gallery

London’s National Portrait Gallery has been one of the most important art institutions since 1856. But today, with modern technology, we are being invited into the museums to discover the stories behind the world’s greatest paintings and artists. Their online youtube channel contains interviews with leading art experts, live recordings of talks and events, and insights into our latest exhibitions.

10 minutes Talks

Their 10-minute talks series is one of my favourites for anyone who wants to get a little primer into art history but doesn’t want to get overwhelmed with information. These short segments study just one painting by one artist. Different curators and producers from the museums lead you through the artwork, the hidden meanings and any historical context which lends itself to studying the painting with more intention.

5-Minute Meditation

Another fascinating tidbit that they have been producing during the pandemic are these 5-Minute Meditations . This series is all about blending mindfulness and art appreciation. You grab a water or coffee and sit back with the gentle voices of the curators guiding you through the lines and textures of the painting as you have moments of self-reflection throughout. I have to admit; they are so soothing, they might even put you to sleep!

Talks for All

Lastly, if you are looking for something a little more in-depth, you can sit back and enjoy one of the longer videos called Talks for All . These lectures were initially recorded in the gallery in front of an audience, but now you can attend as an audience of one from the comfort of your own home. Something is oddly comforting about hearing the murmur of laughter or contemplation from the unseen audience in front of the lecturers. It makes you feel like you are really there.

The Field Museum

In Chicago, the Field Museum has been producing videos with the Chief Curiosity Correspondent for Youtube for the past eight years! Hosted by Emily Graslie, former volunteer of the University of Montana Zoological Museum, her heart burstingly charming personality guides you through all different parts of their collection. In such a large museum like the Field Museum, there are plenty of aspects of their collection that aren’t even on display in the museum but hidden away in the archives. Well, these videos put you behind the scenes in some of the unseen parts of the museum. One of my favourite episodes is all about their rare book room! There are also such topics as the Whale Warehouse , museums taxidermy , meteorites and more!

The Wallace Collection

The Wallace Collection is a museum in London, housed in the grand Hertford House in Manchester Square. This was once the permanent residence of the Seymour family, the Marquesses of Hertford. The Marquesses of Hertford, along with Sir Richard Wallace, for whom the museum is named after, amassed a vast collection of fine and decorative arts in their lifetime. These ranged from furniture, arms and armour, porcelain and Old Master paintings. Sir Richard Wallace bequeathed the collection to the British Nation in 1897 so that everyone could enjoy the collection.

best youtube house tours

Today, it really can, as much of the collection has been documented on video for all to see. Their playlist on the collection highlights is an excellent intro to all the wondrous things these collectors amassed over time.

Van Gogh Museum

The Van Gogh Museum  in Amsterdam is a museum dedicated solely to the works of  Vincent Van Gogh . Famously, Vincent van Gogh only ever sold one painting during his lifetime, ‘The Red Vineyard.’ Today he is one of the world’s most notable painters, with his works selling for millions upon millions of dollars.

best youtube house tours

Throughout the pandemic, the Van Gogh museum has not only been creating entertaining videos for you to watch but tutorials for you to follow along with and learn as you go. Their series called ‘ Let’s Paint Like Van Gogh ‘ helps even the most beginning painter learn the simple techniques Van Gogh used to create his vivid and powerful masterpieces. They manage to simplify iconic parts of some of his paintings to allow you the chance to create your own at home!

In another series called ‘ In the Picture ,’ curators take you through their 2020 exhibition, which tells stories about identity and image, in 75 portraits.

Frick Museum

The Frick Collection in New York City houses the personal art collection of industrialist Henry Clay Frick . The museum is even located inside his old house on the Upper East Side. In addition to some old master paintings, the collection also includes fine furniture, decorative arts and more. Their 12-minute video introduction allows you to step inside the doors and look at the house almost as it was when Frick left it.

During the pandemic, they created many videos that allowed people to view their collection through a myriad of different themes. One of those series’ was called ‘Travels with a Curator,’ where curator Xavier F. Salomon , takes you on a virtual trip around the world. In the series, they study museums around the world and how they connect with the Frick Museum.

Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum , located in  Amsterdam , is the Dutch National Museum. Inside its great walls are pieces dedicated to the arts and history of Amsterdam. At the start of the pandemic, the Rijksmuseum wanted to give viewers worldwide access to the secrets of their galleries, so they started the series  #RijksmuseumUnlocked . Throughout the series, various curators lead you through different parts of the museum to study themes and hidden meanings behind highlights from their collection.

Their newest series is called ‘ Rijksmuseum in 60 seconds ‘. These videos allow you to learn more about their collection in just one minute!

The American Museum of Natural History

The American Museum of Natural History , located in New York City, is one of the world’s preeminent scientific and cultural institutions. Since opening its doors to the public in 1869, the museum attempts to help people discover and interpret information about the natural world around us. My favourite video series of theirs has got to be ‘ Shelf Life ‘! This series is relatively old, starting in 2014. The series is for curious minds and features curators opening doors, drawers and hidden away rooms to study rarely-seen items in the museum’s collection.

The State Hermitage Museum

I have long dreamt of visiting the  Hermitage Museum , delving into the dark Russian winter only to wander the halls of this incredible fortress of beauty.  The State Hermitage Museum  is located in  Saint Petersburg, Russia  and is the second-largest art museum in the world! The  collection  was founded by  Empress Catherine the Great  and contains over three million items! And while you might not be able to view each one of those items in person, you can experience it through an AMAZING virtual tour!

best youtube house tours

In May 2020, Apple created a five-hour cinematic journey inside the Hermitage museum. Throughout the videos, you are lead through 45 galleries, view 588 masterpieces, and wonder at the beautiful live performances which take place inside some of their most sacred spaces. Even more incredibly, the video was shot in ONE CONTINUOUS TAKE! The music composed throughout the video is so hauntingly beautiful, and I cannot recommend watching this piece more! You don’t need to watch all five hours, but I think once you start watching, you’ll find yourself entranced.

The  Victoria and Albert Museum  (also known as the  V&A ) is the world’s leading museum of art and design. Founded in 1852, the V&A promotes innovation and communicates the importance of good design. The collection contains over 2.27 million objects, dating from 1600 to the present. This video, hosted by curator May Rosenthal Sloan , explores vintage citrus fruit wrappers as new forms of advertising in the 19th century. This was the video that first started my binging of the V&A’s youtube channel. The packaging feels so ephemeral and yet like a work of art all at the same time.

So many objects in the V&A’s collection are small trinkets. And while seeing them in person is a beautiful experience, being able to study them in microscopic detail on video is a unique experience. One of my favourite videos is called ‘ Spotlight on Jewels ‘. Academy Award-winning costume designer Alexandra Byrne , jewellery designer Stephen Webster , British Vogue jewellery editor Carol Woolton and V&A curator Clare Phillips come together in this feature to reveal their favourite items from the collection.

The  MET   or  Metropolitan Museum of Art   is America’s most famous art gallery. Located in the heart of  New York City , the collection is home to over two million works of art! with so many objects in their collection and a slew of curators to keep it all running, the content they are producing online is superb! Their ‘ Art, Explained ‘ series is a beautiful way to pick your favourite items from the collection and learn a little bit more about them in a concise amount of time! There are over 80 items that have been documented in the videos , so there are lots to choose from.

Another series which I love is called ‘ MET Stories ‘. This 12-part series features stories from all different kinds of people, from chefs, fashion designers and even lawyers, telling stories about how the MET influenced or changed their lives.

Throughout the pandemics, the MET has also been creating videos that spark their viewers creativity. This is everything from learning how to make a soap carvings, sculpturing clay pots and my personal favourite, creating your cabinet of curiosity !

Hopefully these entertaining channels give you something to watch and inspire your mind throughout the rest of this pandemic. While we have to stay at home, we can still explore the world through these virtual travels !

NEW ORLEANS GHOST TOURS

New Orleans is rumored to have a strong presence of ghosts and spirits.

The city’s reputation for its connection to the supernatural has led authors like Anne Rice (“Interview with the Vampire”) to set their stories here.

Ghost Tour of New Orleans

Some episodes of the hit series “True Blood” take place in New Orleans and for those old enough to remember, the James Bond classic “Live and Let Die” weaved the Voodoo culture of New Orleans into its plot.

When you are in New Orleans, you can do more than read a book or see a movie to experience the macabre. You can take a tour and get up close and personal!

New Orleans offers a variety of tours focusing on Louisiana's haunted past.

These tours take you to some pretty spooky places where your guide will tell you chilling tales about the city's dark history.

Reviewing ‘Hackney Diamonds’ in October – their first studio album of new material since 2005’s ‘ A Bigger Bang ’ – NME  described the record as an “absolute barnstormer”.

Kamala Harris Leads Push to Shore Up Democratic Support From Black Voters

Speaking in Atlanta, the vice president began a national tour to highlight how the Biden administration is trying to help Black Americans economically.

  • Share full article

Kamala Harris walks onto a stage while waving to the crowd. Some people up front are holding phones to capture the moment.

By Maya King

Reporting from Atlanta

  • April 29, 2024

Vice President Kamala Harris made a new effort to energize Black voters in battleground states on Monday, visiting Atlanta for the kickoff of a national economic tour that will highlight how the Biden administration says its policies are helping a constituency that will be vital to Democrats’ success in November.

Speaking to a largely Black crowd of about 400 people, Ms. Harris laid out ways that she and President Biden have sought to improve Black Americans’ upward mobility and help them realize their business ambitions. A chief objective of the tour, she said, was to let Black business owners and entrepreneurs know about the resources available to them.

“I need the help of the leaders who are here to get the word out so people know what is available to them,” she said during a conversation at the Georgia International Convention Center with Rashad Bilal and Troy Millings of the financial literacy podcast “Earn Your Leisure,” which offers business advice to its more than two million listeners, a majority of whom are Black.

Explaining how government policies have widened the racial wealth gap over the years, Ms. Harris pointed to the Biden administration’s attempts to try to narrow it, including small-business grants and efforts to forgive student loans.

“We want to make sure people know about it — and then know where they can receive — the support to be ready to take on the work and then to grow their capacity,” she said.

Her remarks at the official White House-hosted event — drier and less political than her forceful campaign speeches on abortion recently — meandered at times.

“As much as anything, the spirit behind the push for access to capital, and in particular, on this tour, focusing on minority small businesses and Black-owned small businesses, and small businesses and entrepreneurs who are Black men, is to recognize the disparities that have existed around the access to the opportunity to achieve success,” she said at one point.

But at other moments Ms. Harris was more pointed, including when she defended diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives that conservative lawmakers have pushed to dismantle in state governments and at colleges and universities .

“In spite of those who in certain parts of our country want to attack D.E.I., we understand that you can’t truly invest in the strength of our nation if you don’t pay attention to diversity, equity and inclusion,” she said.

The vice president’s Atlanta visit, her 12th trip to Georgia since taking office, was the first stop in a tour of several battleground states in the coming weeks. Much of the tour will focus on Black small businesses and economic issues that are especially pressing for Black communities. She will visit Detroit next week, aides said.

Ms. Harris’s tour will also seek to engage Black men, whom Democrats are urgently courting as polls show them softening in their support for Mr. Biden. Much of the crowd at the vice president’s event consisted of Black male political and business leaders, as well as a contingent of students from Morehouse College, a historically Black men’s college in Atlanta where President Biden will deliver the commencement address next month.

Before her speech, Ms. Harris visited an entrepreneurship hub near downtown Atlanta where she spoke with Black small-business owners.

Flanked by Georgia’s Democratic senators, Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, as well as Representative Nikema Williams, the state Democratic Party chair, Ms. Harris highlighted the Biden administration’s marquee legislation, like the CHIPS and Science Act, which offers funding for small-business research projects.

She also underlined the roughly $7 billion that the administration has poured into historically Black colleges and universities, the largest investment of any White House administration.

Atlanta is set to receive more than $150 million for a project called The Stitch that is meant to revitalize the city’s downtown areas and connect them to its growing midtown neighborhoods. Georgia is one of 40 states that will receive money from a White House program that aims to repair the decades-old societal damage from federal transportation projects that disproportionately displaced Black communities.

Colin Jost Wins Over Tough White House Correspondents Dinner Crowd With Praise for ‘Decent’ Biden

You had to hold on ’til the end.

“Saturday Night Live” comedian Colin Jost delivered a mixed bag of Trump zingers, media jokes and Biden age wisecracks in front of a demanding crowd Saturday at the annual White House Correspondents Dinner , but it took him until the last of his remarks to fully charm the assemblage of journalists and politicos who came to hear him roast the President and the Washington press corps.

Jost finished his remarks by telling President Joe Biden about his 95-year-old grandfather, a longtime fireman in Staten Island, N.Y, who voted Democrat in the 2020 presidential election even though that borough of New York City is known to favor Republicans.

Popular on Variety

The anecdote wrapped a meandering collection of quips about perceptions of Biden’s age, former President Donald Trump’s ongoing legal woes and a few gags about the New York Times and Fox News Channel.

“The Republican candidate for president owes half a billion in fines for bank fraud and is currently spending his days farting himself awake during a porn star hush money trial and the race is tied?” asked Jost. “The race is tied. Nothing makes sense anymore.” He added: “The candidate who is a famous New York City playboy took abortion rights away, and the guy who is giving you abortion rights back is an 80-year-old Catholic. How does that make sense?”

The annual event presents a great opportunity for comedians, and also a veritable minefield. Because every president except for Trump has attended the White House Correspondents Association event since it launched early last century, there is heightened sensitivity about decorum. Some comedians, such as Stephen Colbert, Michelle Wolf and Larry Wilmore, have tripped those sensibilities. Others have held forth at the event without a scratch.

Still, the comedian seemed to be in Biden’s corner. “It’s after 10 p.m. ‘Sleepy Joe’ is still awake while Donald Trump has spent the past week falling asleep in court every morning — though Fox News said he was just being anti-woke.”

He also had a few sharp remarks for the news organizations in the room. “Like many of you here tonight, I pretend to do news on TV,” he said.

For his part, President Biden urged journalists to keep in mind their role in preserving a functioning democracy, suggesting reporters steer away from horse-race campaign stories and “gotcha” moments in favor of the likely effects the next election will have on American life and policy. He also vowed to continue to work to free journalists like Evan Gershkovich and Austin Tice who have been imprisoned unjustly abroad.

President Biden also spent much time throwing a few stones at his Oval Office rival. He called Trump “Sleepy Don,” a reference to reports that Trump has been falling asleep during his current trial in New York, and turned ongoing questions about his own physical and mental condition toward Trump. “Of course, the 2024 election is in full swing. And yes, age is an issue,” Biden said. “I’m a grown man running against a 6-year-old.”

Colin Jost headlines White House Correspondents' Dinner with cocaine, O.J. Simpson jokes

best youtube house tours

Live from Washington D.C., it was the White House Correspondents' Dinner — with Colin Jost (and President Joe Biden).

The "Weekend Update" host from NBC weekly sketch program "Saturday Night Live" brought his punchy brand of comedy — and wife Scarlett Johansson — to the yearly roast of the President of the United States. Jost roasted everyone from Biden to former President Donald Trump's daughter-in-law Lara Trump and Senator Bernie Sanders .

"It's not always easy following President Biden ... like it's not always easy following what he's saying," Jost joked. He also said, "I hope tonight will be a night to remember ... for most of us," in reference to voter response to Biden's age.

Colin Jost touches on President Biden's biggest controversies, 2024 campaign

During the dinner, Jost touched on some of the biggest controversies from a dip in President Biden's approval among Black voters to a controversy about cocaine found at the White House last summer .

“Like many of you here tonight, I pretend to do news on TV. My 'Weekend Update' co-anchor Michael Che was going to join me here tonight but in solidarity with President Biden, I decided to lose all my Black support,” he said, referring to his “Weekend Update” co-host and close friend Che.

"I love Washington. Last time I was here I left my cocaine at the White House. Luckily President Biden was able to make good use of it at his State of the Union," Jost added.

Jost also touched on recent headlines, joking that Columbia University is among the "world's dangerous geopolitical hotspots" following student protests about the Israel-Hamas war. He also quipped that “Obama got Bin Laden, you got O.J.”

“And by the way, now that O.J.’s dead, who’s the new front runner for Trump’s VP. Is it Diddy?” Jost added.

'I'm also used to being the Second Gentleman,' Colin Jost says about wife Scarlett Johansson

Jost had a lucky charm in the audience during his set: his spouse, two-time Academy Award nominee Scarlett Johansson .

"Doug, as you can tell by all the comments about my wife, I'm also used to being the Second Gentleman," Jost said about Emhoff, who is married to Vice President Kamala Harris.

"I want to thank my wife for enduring lots of jokes and agreeing to individually meet every person in this room after the ceremony," he said later, which elicited a laugh from the "Her" actress.

The night's end took a serious turn when Jost paid homage to his late grandfather, who the comedian said voted for Biden. He also called Biden a "decent man."

“My grandpa voted for decency, and decency is why we’re all here tonight. Decency is how we’re able to be here tonight,” Jost said.
