Those Kiss Avatars Are Coming… in 2027

  • By Daniel Kreps

Daniel Kreps

During Kiss ’ final concert earlier this month, the (allegedly) retiring band announced plans to continue on as digital avatars. On Friday, the Destroyer act revealed when their “new era” will begin: 2027.

“50 years is a long time, and what the future holds is in the making,” Kiss said in their latest promotional video trumpeting their digital forms. “A show is coming.”

Taylor swift makes chart history with ‘the tortured poets department', meet the mvp of 'shōgun' — ex-punk rocker and japanese movie star tadanobu asano, salma hayek joins madonna for ‘vogue’ in mexico city.

According to Blabbermouth , Pophouse CEO Per Sundin said that the company is still in the process of figuring out how best to use the avatars, which are enormous, fire-breathing versions of the Kiss members in full regalia. “Is it a Kiss concert in the future? Is it a rock opera? Is it a musical? A story, an adventure? These four individuals already have superpowers. We want to be as open as possible,” Sundin said.

AVATAR will release its ninth album, "Dance Devil Dance" , on February 17 via Thirty Tigers . The LP was recorded in the Swedish wilderness, far away from all the perceived glamor of the big city and modern studios. Jay Ruston ( ANTHRAX , MR. BUNGLE , CROBOT , STONE SOUR , AMON AMARTH , URIAH HEEP ) returned as producer. He first worked with AVATAR when he mixed "Hail The Apocalypse" , a role he reprised on "Feathers & Flesh" before taking the wheel as producer on "Avatar Country" and "Hunter Gatherer" .

Last year, AVATAR announced its signing to Thirty Tigers and the launch of its own Black Waltz Records imprint. In addition, Eckerström and his bandmates unleashed four new songs which, according to the group, represented a taste of things to come.

Last August, vocalist Johannes Eckerström told TotalRock about AVATAR 's upcoming LP: "My best thing to liken it to is [ JUDAS PRIEST 's] 'British Steel' in the sense of that… JUDAS PRIEST were always great, and before 'British Steel' you had 'Killing Machine' , you had 'Sad Wings Of Destiny' and all this, but they were a great heavy metal band, a great rock and roll band, a great prog band at times and kind of eclectic. And then with 'British Steel' I find they really got laser focused, cut off the fat. And we're focused on what we feel right now metal needs — this very pompous but yet…

"Honestly, I feel like we have to save heavy metal," he continued. "Because either people are lost in the past… They did it better than we will ever do what they do. Don't do that. What's next? What's next for us? And do that without disappearing up your own asses completely.

"When people end up doing metal that is best enjoyed while sitting down and shutting up, you miss the point," Johannes added. "Metal is the music that you move to — in the pit, banging your head, dancing around, whatever, lifting weights, drinking too much, getting pregnant, impregnating someone, doing things. It's music to move with. You have drums in the band; why would you have drums if you don't move?

"We look a lot to the masters — that is wisdom from MOTÖRHEAD , from JUDAS PRIEST , from a lot of things — but then just… yeah, that, but not that . They did that. We're now and what's next with that. Where can we try to help bring it? And that is this album."

AVATAR enjoyed quite a productive summer last year, traipsing North America on a successful headline tour. They next embarked on some of the biggest shows of the career — a trek with IRON MAIDEN , supporting the band in stadiums in Brazil. AVATAR also played arenas supporting SABATON . They secured slots at major festivals globally — Inkcarceration , Summer Breeze and Bloodstock Open Air , among others.

KISS to Continue Performing as Avatars Following Final Show

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

The post KISS to Continue Performing as Avatars Following Final Show appeared first on Consequence .

KISS ’ final show ever took place at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night (December 1st). At the end of the concert, after the actual band played its last song, fans witnessed a one-song performance of “God Gave Rock and Roll to You” by digital KISS avatars.

A press release shortly followed, explaining that a “new era of KISS” is upon us, and that the band is “marking the end of its physical existence by crossing into the digital world.” The plan is for avatars of KISS to “perform to fans for decades to come.”

The KISS avatars were created by George Lucas’ visual effects company Industrial Light & Magic using motion-capture technology involving the band members themselves. The forthcoming KISS avatar shows will be in partnership with Pophouse Entertainment Group, the Swedish company behind the recent virtual ABBA Voyage production in London.

“We can be forever young and forever iconic by taking us to places we’ve never dreamed of before,” explained KISS’ Gene Simmons. “The technology is going to make Paul [Stanley] jump higher than he’s ever done before.”

Stanley added, “What we’ve accomplished has been amazing, but it’s not enough. The band deserves to live on because the band is bigger than we are … It’s exciting for us to go the next step and see KISS immortalized. I mean, we’ve spent 50 years building it to this point. And by working with ILM and working with Pophouse, we’re all sharing this vision of taking KISS to a completely different level beyond being just a music band. And we’ve always thought of ourselves as more than just a music band.”

As of now, no KISS avatar shows have been announced. Video footage of the sneak peek at the end of KISS’ Madison Square Garden concert can be seen below, along with a promo video and an image of Simmons creating his avatar in a motion capture suit.

Stay tuned for Heavy Consequence ‘s full recap and photos of KISS’ final show ever at Madison Square Garden.

Surprised my daughter with tickets to their show, 5 hours away in Atlanta, Georgia @Buckhead Theatre, September 13, 2021. We live in North Florida.

Sadly I went to jail last year, and it was very hard on her. No worries, my civil rights were violated, we are gonna be just fine, and famous when this shit breaks.

Anyway, when I got out of jail, I found Feathers & Flesh Book in Europe and ordered it for her with a signed poster, and some trading cards came with it they sent as a bonus.

She thought we were driving like 2 hours away, had no idea where ATL was. They were amazing, as were they're supporting bands also. Had we gotten there a few minutes earlier, we could of gotten right up next to the stage. I was going to ask Johannes to sign her book.

When we get paid off, I promised her a show in Sweden, and I am that mom that always sticks to a pinky promise. The girl got everything she wanted it was her 15th birthday, it was her first concert in person, her favorite band ever, and all the merch she wanted. Shirt, beenie, and patches.

You guys ever come to north Florida before we move, I'll be band mom. I got some cool things for all of you! For helping my girl without even knowing it! Thank you, and can't wait to see you again !

AVATAR as always tore it up and brought down the roof at Terminal 5 stealing the show!

This go around in NYC however they were with shortened set list due to being an opener instead of what they do best headlining. Nonetheless an awesome time was had and I look foreword to seeing them again soon.

Hail Gothenburg, Sweden’s Finest Metal Gods!!

Team Wasp : Hi Dave Looking forward to seeing your finished racer and having some new competitors and previous chaps returning to the SCCC for 2012. You are right to strengthen the D2 axle with the external bracing and internal tubing from Tomcat.  That is what I need to do the next time as I'm needing a new D2 front axle cos I seem to bend them quite easily with my 5.7 chevy mounted 8" back from standard.  You might be advised to fit Ashcroft shafts and CVs which are about ?600 for the front axle.  My 290bhp hasn't managed to break either the CVs or shafts in three years so I would recommend them.  I run standard rear shafts. You will probably know about uprated diffs as well.  Various ratios are used and also different ratio transfer boxes too.  You may find that 4th at 100mph is too high geared for SCCC but might better suit gravel rallying (otherwise known as the BCCC). SCCC can be rough and twisty and acceleration in the lower gears is essential.  Uprating the diffs can be with Quaife or Eaton Detroit true trac LSDs or locker.  Some people run open diffs and 4 pin are popular but for bigger bhp an LSD is stronger.  You really don't want to be changing a diff at a race so better to put in the best you can afford.  Steve Haworth at Crown Diffs was a big help to me and supplied/built the two 4.11 ratio eaton LSDs that we run.  They are pegged too.  Without pegging, the crown wheel can skip off the pinion and strip a few teeth.  therefore you need and new crown wheel and or pinion.  With pegging the crown wheel and pinion are kept in constant mesh and if something goes wrong under stress, loads of the teeth will be broken.  So you still need a new crown wheel and pinion anyway but it is much less likely to break.  Depends on the bhp and planted right foot and whether you are airborne a lot and land heavy! Steve Haworth also built our front diff in reverse so the drive is on the stronger side.  Arguably a rover faux pas.  Something worth considering.  Totally digressed off your original tyre question.  Still think that 206R16 Diamonds or 235/75 directional diamonds are the best all round choice.  We ran a couple of BFGoodrich MT's but they clog too easily in the deeper mud compared to the Kingpin highlander diamonds. Have you decided on 100" wheelbase with front engine or 106" wheelbase with rear engine? Cheers Brian

Hi all will be looking to buy a good set of comp/play tyres in the near future. size 36-38" 15"rims would be looking at a Very aggressive tyre tred. will most proberly not be driven on the road at all. would also like a good side wall rating. does anyone recomend any good comp tyres? at the moment my road tyres are a set of pro-comp Xterrains 35". Because i live over here in the west it is hard to get good tyres so if you could recomend some and mabey post some pics that would be great. cheers Ash.

truckster

What sort of terrain? Wet/dry/rocky/clay/mud? Swampers? Boggers? Claws? Trepadores Centipedes Jungle Trekkers Ground Hawgs

A 38inch tyre might be hard to get with a 15inch rim. Like truckster said it really depends what you are driving.

truckster said: What sort of terrain? Wet/dry/rocky/clay/mud? Swampers? Boggers? Claws? Trepadores Centipedes Jungle Trekkers Ground Hawgs Click to expand...

speaking to a few people today was told that these may not be as good as they are said to be.....anyone got any info or mabey a better idear, i was told the simax trecker is ment to be the goods not sure though dint realy come in many sizes. If i were to get any of these tyres who over in the west would have them??

For mud and clay, you want Simex Centipedes 36's are it, but they are big enough for people who arent in competitionsand people in the real world. So where do you drive that you need 38's?

nastytroll

I would go 37" maxxis creapy crawler, also available in 38", good allround tyre.

paul44b

Simex,simex,simex

Sounds like simex is winning this race so far!

Nev

My vote is Trepadores or TSL's (not sx). Heard nothing but a good rap from people running the treps (mick from superior was raving about them to me too) and had a few mates run TSL's and can't fault them. Go much better than the claws and boggers they tried. Mud only and no rocks then perhaps simex.

i run 37 boggers with bead locks never had a tyre as capable as them but they are crap for lateral traction though

micks troll

tyres Me personally tsl swampers. The sx's look tougher and are, but they have an extremely stiff sidewall which doesnt help for bagging out. have a look at some of the comp, trucks that'll give you an idea as to what may suit you. the thing i love the most about the swampers is there overall size as they are over sized (except the boggers). One big can of worms.........

Hey Ash, I'm biased but I am getting good results with my 37" BIAS IROKs. Running them at 7psi and they bag out and grip great, they drove bobs hill easy at 7psi. Plus your more than welcome to come round and test fit them, but you wont have any problems as i'm running them with just a 2" spring lift. I would would be importing tires from Chris or Dave at Locktup, they're currently getting red label crawlers in for some one. Cheers Chris

from what ive seen, super swamper boggers for mud, simex jungle trekkers for all round, again in mud ive not seen a better tyre than the bogger but allmost insanity on the road.

goose

ive been running pro comp muddies for a few years on my daily driver, and they have proven to be darn good. tough sidewalls when deflated and all round good performer. althouth they are gettin tooooo pricy are a good choice and not too extreme.

swampers The TSL swampers come in a 38x12.5x15 and are a big tyre for their size Mate ran them on his shorty forty than on his GQ shorty down your way (with 3" wheelspacers). Truelly awesome. The creepies are **** in mud compared to them, and the JT2s dont come in a big tyre. May go krawler if they take your fancy! After now see the 37 maxxis trepadors there a better tyre than the creepy for you needand are heaps tall then a 37 claw. Boggers are a small tyre a 35 is the same as a 33 tsl etc so make sure you're getting a good hieght tyre!

Steve hiatt.

There is an argument for shifting some weight off the front axle, especially if you are not spending lots on shocks.

However concentrating all the weight in the middle is not good. I was planning this when I built my first one and cant remember all the physics, something to do with polar moment, I'm sure Daan will know.

In general laymans terms, engine at the front and the car acts like a dart; In the rear like a pendulum so helps on cornering. All the weight in the middle and it acts like a seesaw.

Hmm, i am being askedfor an opinion on a comp safari car? Well, I know on a rally car you usually try to aim for 55% front weight split, so that on accelaration you have 50-50 split. On comp safari cars, many now have a rear engine, I presume this is more for stability while being airborne. But I dont have any experience with this. Over to you steve!

used to be a popular hangout for the trials guys and comp safari guys sorta late 80's early 90's.

My old man is converting old trials videos from way back then one with a Huge I mean Huge dodge on road tyres getting wedged in a hole in a local trial.

Rear engined stability in mid air? not! A rear engined motor has the problem that if the front has landed at a steep angle the engine mass overtakes the front and over it goes the most painful roll to have.

There are lots of vids on YouTube IIRC.

Rally Cars for Sale

Up for sale here is my 2001 Bowler Wildcat 200.

This car is purpose built onto a space frame to compete in the likes of comp safari, hill rallies, rally raid, dakar, toutes terrain, NORC, AWDC, SCCC, BCCC, SASLRC etc...

Under the bonnet is a 5.2 John Eales V8, believe me when I say this thing shifts and sounds awesome.

The car had been stood for a while until I purchased it in early 2014. The previous owner enjoyed spending money on the car but left it parked in his garage! He had recent bills from QT services totalling over 20k on various upgrades he had done to the car at QT headquarters. The bulk of the money was spent  chassis strengthening / wrapping, fitting the latest type QT tubular radius arms, altering the suspension turrets to the current spec & 4x new Donerre shock absorbers fitting.

In the short time I’ve owned the car it has been maintained meticulously and has had an absolute fortune thrown at it. This has been spent on:

Full re-spray in Land Rover, Metallic, Santorini Black

Custom made stainless steel front bumper, steering guard, tailgate handle & side bars

“Aero catch” bonnet catches fitted

Stainless steel Protex catches fitted on rear tub

Later type discovery 2 rear lights fitted

Fiddle brake

In car camera system

Peltor Intercom

150 ltr fuel tank

Strengthened & tubed front axle

Plumbed in fire extinguisher system.

I’ve probably missed some stuff but I think you get the picture.

This is an amazing, iconic car that is highly competitive even in the hands of a novice like myself – current class leader in N.O.R.C. Results can be seen here: http://www.norc.org.uk/pages/results-2015

I am still competing with the car so it will be mechanically sound but will have the usual battle scars you would expect of a race car.

It was used as a wedding car in July and had an MOT at this point although it is currently SORN.

I’m not in any rush to sell it so please, please...no dreamers, timewasters or stupid offers...I’ll just carry on racing it.

We regularly export vehicles through our business so I am able to arrange container loading & worldwide shipping if the need arises.

Spares package available by separate negotiation.

Comp Safaris

What is a Comp Safari? Well the full title is Competitive Safari. Competitive Safari's are the UK's off road motorsport equivalent of a multi-use (or single venue) stage rally.

A course is set out of between 4 and 12 miles and then the competitors are given a set number of laps to achieve within a certain time frame. Each of the laps is timed and the lowest aggregate time at the end of the day wins. The competition is split up into 4 classes to enable different vehicles and budgets to compete against each other.

Comp Safari is not just about out and out speed. It's a test of reliability, of engineering skill, of ingenuity and above all team sprit.  It is not just about one or two competitors in a racer; it's about a whole team. Whole families or groups of mates get involved in making sure their racer makes to the finish line. Whether holding the steering wheel or holding the spanners, everyone plays their part.

Make no mistake, it can be a hard day, but you just have to witness the intense staring at the timings board after each lap to know that hidden just beneath the feverish activity in the pits there is a grin, not just like the Cheshire cats, but the size of Cheshire!

SCOR hold a whole host of Comp Safaris all across the south on varying sites that will test both man and machine, but leave them coming back for more. Such is the attraction of 'just that little bit faster'...

So if you fancy yourself as the next big name in off road racing, or just want a challenge like no other then come along and see what SCOR have to offer. You'll be made more than welcome; as long as you don't disturb a pit crew in the midst of red mist fuelled remedial repair work!

Like many of the most popular games or sports, trialing has only a handful of rules that can be explained in about 5 minutes but hide such subtlety that it draws competitors back time and time again.

I've also heard trialing called "the art of counting backwards while driving" and that pretty much sums it up while keeping with the 'handful of rules' idea.

Each section is set out with a series of gates that are marked with numbered canes. The start of the section is gate 10 and the end of the section is gate 1. Each driver drives between those gates in order 10 down to 1 without stopping (or more likely getting stuck!). If you do stop then you are awarded the score that corresponds to the next gate number, or if you hit a cane then your score is the number on that gate. For instance, stop between gate 4 and 3 and you will get a 3. If you hit gate 4 the then you get a 4. Drive through all the gates and you get a score of zero, or a clear.

The competition is split into 2 classes and the driver with the lowest score in each class at the end of the day is the winner.

You see, there really are only a handful of rules; but here's the subtle bit. The gates are not in a straight line and they are not laid out on a bowling green!

There are a couple of 'tweaks' to the basic concept. On some sections there will be 'crossed canes' arrange in an X form. These denote the edge of a section and you are not allowed to drive outside of the boundary. Also long wheel base vehicles are allowed a shunt.

Within SCOR a long wheel base vehicle is defined as one with a 100 inch or greater wheelbase. A shunt is one reverse maneuver per section allowing you to line up for the next gate, but at least one wheel must remain inside the area of the section.

Unlike other forms of off-road motor sport, trialing can be a family orientated past time. Due to the nature of the competition the whole event takes place in a fairly small area, which also allows everyone to see the entire section from one point. Obviously you will need to move from section to section during the day, but you need never miss any of the action. While one competitor is on the section the rest are gathered around to give the benefit of their advice and how they wouldn't have got stuck there!... but unlike other forms of off-roading everyone will eventually have prove their metal!

So as you can see with trialing there is time to chat and time to drive but the whole thing has a competitive edge where you will have to show your true prowess as an off-road 'Driving God'!

Welcome COMPSAFARI

This site will detail the efforts of Ken Powell and Jonathan Stevenson as they compete in the 2008 MSA British Cross-Country Championship (BCCC) . This site will be updated regularly and will have full reports and photo's posted after each round.

ALRC Interclub Comp Challenge A new Interclub Comp Challenge has been announced for ALRC vehicles. Full details of the challenge can be found by clicking on the following link. www.compsafari.com/compchallenge/

BCCC Championship Report After finishing all 6 rounds of the 2008 BCCC competition with three top 10 finishes and 3 disappointing rounds, Ken and Jonathan were placed 12th overall in the final standings in their first season in their Mattserati. It had been a steep learning curve for the team and many lessons had been learnt along the way. Ken and Jonathan would like to thank Mudhut Off-Road, TruFlame Welding Equipment, Pattonair Ltd, Banners Nottingham and Total Off-Road for their support during the year. Without this, competing in the British Cross Country Championship would still be a distant dream.

BCCC Round 6 Report The final round of the 2008 British Cross Country Championship was held at a wet and windy Walters Arena, South Wales. This event took place Friday 7th and Saturday 8th November to give plenty of time for an end of season celebrations on Saturday evening and Sunday morning! Due to work commitments the team arrived at the South Wales course very late on Thursday night and had little time before the event start to prepare and yet again missed out on the all important walking of the course, when will they learn! After the all clear at scrutineering and signing on, the duo set off first the first run of the wet and rocky course. A puncture early on slowed the Mattserati and the pair stopped the clock at 15 minutes 17 seconds. After a quick wheel change they were soon lined up for run 2. This run was hampered by another puncture but due to a course blockage the team were prevented from finishing the lap and an average time was given. Wondering if they had been cursed with punctures, the team then watch 6 consecutive competitors all cross the finishing line with either 1 or 2 punctures! The team then remained issue free until Run 5, the final run of day one, when the Mattserati became stranded when a steering joint failed. A tow back to the pits was required and the Solway Recovery team duly obliged! Storms overnight left the course very slippy for Saturday but the team were determined to try and salvage a reasonable result from the final round. Yet again Ken's driving and feel for the Mattserati improved on the second days racing and although in worse conditions, managed to improve on his lap times set the previous day. However run 7 saw another disappointment for the team when the throttle became stuck open causing some very hairy corners, whilst trying to drive and identify the cause of the problem. For the sake of the screaming engine the team decided to pull off the course and not risk further damage. Although the problem, a sticking throttle cable, was identified and a temporary handheld throttle was created they had lost too much time and a maximum time was given. Back at the pits area a replacement throttle cable was fitted and the team, although disappointed, carried on with the remaining 4 laps. The team finished the day without any further issues and posted some very competitive times. Walters Arena had lived up to its reputation as being a 'Car Breaker' and due to this, and the teams persistence, they finished the event in 20th place overall.

BCCC Round 5 Report After a wet season of events, it took a trip to Wales for Round 5 of the BCCC to see some sunshine. Radnor Forest was the venue for the penultimate round and would prove to be as challenging as ever. The weekend started well with Ken and Jonathan progressing well in only their 2nd time driving on Rally tracks. On run 2 the pair were heading down a rutted forest track into a left hand bend when the car jumped out of the ruts and into a rather large tree stopping them dead. The result was a damaged Panhard rod which completely ripped off when the car set off again. Undeterred and unaware of the actual problem, Ken continued to the finish with the car steering itself in the ruts. Unbelievably, the time was only a few seconds off the previous run and kept the team lingering just outside the top 10. With a new Panhard rod installed the team push on and posted top 10 ten times for the rest of the day leaving them in 10th position overnight. Sunday started well with Ken posting the 7th quickest lap on the first run and the following lap was also going well until at the halfway point a Tomcat had ground to a halt with no drive from the gearbox, blocking the track. After a push from several drivers and navigators, who were all now stuck behind it, the stricken vehicle rolled down the hill and into an area of safety. Ken made his way back to the finish knowing that the good run was wasted but an average time would be given. For run 9 Alan Wilson joined Ken in the Navigators seat. The Mattserati was performing well until a petrol leak caused the car to catch fire and remind everyone how dangerous motorsport can be. The fire had unfortunately burnt the engine's wiring loom and the Mattserati was unable to continue. With 2 further runs remaining, the team could do no more than take maximum times resulting in 26th place overall. A disappointing end to a good weekends racing. The final round at Seven Sisters in November will see the pair complete their first season in the BCCC. The team know that at a course renowned as a 'Car Breaker' a finish is imperative in their hunt for a Top 10 Championship finish.

BCCC Round 4 Report Yet another wet weekend for the British Cross Country Championship, this time at the new venue of Tiverton in Devon for Round 4. Ken and Jonathan were looking for a good result to get them back into the top 10 championship placings after round 3 in Lockerbie. Arriving earlier than previous rounds, the pair had chance to familiarise themselves with the 4 mile course over farmland on Friday. This proved to be worthless as by Saturday the fields had turned into something resembling the Battle of the Somme. Lining up for the first time on the start crews were entertained and supported by a group of cheerleaders - complete with pompoms and ballet shoes! A rear puncture early on run 5 didn't slow the pair until several corners from the finish, where after a quick shunt to negotiate a tight hairpin, the engine died and wouldn't restart. The tow truck, affectionately known by the team as Plugger, helped out to bump start the stricken Mattserati and a maximum time was posted. This all but ended any hopes of a top finish dropping Ken to 19 place. Overnight rain lead to the track filling up with water for the Sunday runs, which tested the teams new washer/wiper systems to their limits. At times there was as much water in the inside of the vehicle as outside adding an internal wiper to the teams winter to-do list! New team recruit Alan Wilson was given the chance to navigate for 2 runs as reward for his efforts over the weekend as part of the pit crew. As Ken got to 'grips' with the conditions and learnt how to get the best out of the vehicle, lap times start to improve. The improvements continued throughout the Sunday runs and concluded with the 5th fastest run time on his last run. This left the team satisfied with 9th place overall after the earlier disappointments and puts them back into the top 10 of the championship standings.

BCCC Round 3 Report With the long drive to Scotland and the long, fast stages of Castle O'er, preparation would be key. This was just what was lacking for the team having spent most of the last 3 weeks in the workshop replacing the clutch again, the windscreen, refurbishing the dampers and welding the various cracks in the frame that had appeared after the unforgiving terrain of Driffield. With limited access to the service area at Lockerbie it was up to Ken and Jonathan to be both crew and service team. Arriving later than planned (again) on the Friday night, the pair were still fitting components to the car after midnight. This left only a few hours on Saturday morning to cycle the near 10 mile course to note any major hazards - and there were plenty! Sitting on the start line, the pair braced themselves for the high speed ride through the forest, aiming to "keep it on the track". They did just that and returned with a time of just over 16 minutes putting them in a respectable 15th place first time out. This type of high speed event was a completely new experience for the team with top gear straights and fast flowing corners. The cautious first run, a hold up on the second and relatively steady third run of the day left Ken wondering where he could get some speed for the final attempt of the day. Pushing hard on the fast gravel tracks, the steering became increasingly vague resulting in the car veering off into a ditch high in the Scottish hills and the team collecting a maximum stage time. Not disheartened by the sudden drop down the leaderboard, Ken came out fighting on the Sunday resulting in 3 runs under 15 minutes. The final run of the day of 14 minutes and 14 seconds helped Ken grab 20th place overall for round 3 and 12th in the championship.

BCCC Round 2 Report Having achieved a top ten finish at the first round of the BCCC at Baden Hall, Ken Powell and Jonathan Stevenson were in good spirits on the way to Driffield for the second round. The waterlogged course proved troublesome for the pair early on as they struggled to clear the windscreen. Several methods of attempting to wash the windscreen ended up with Ken pouring water from a drinks bottle! The Mattserati buggy held up well on the punishing course until the end of Saturday when the clutch failed. The evening was spent removing the gearbox and making a trip to nearby York Land Rover Spares to collect a replacement clutch. An early start on Sunday morning to put the gearbox back in, saw the pair ready for the first run just after breakfast. Some fast times were posted with no problems up until the early close of the event after a hot incident with a Milner protruck and several fire extinguishers. The premature end to the event caused a delay to the results and the drive home was spent thinking about preparation for the next round just 3 weeks away. The Photo and Video pages have now been updated, so please take a look. Thanks to compsafari.co.uk for providing these.

BCCC Round 1 Video We've just received a short video for us to use on this site from Ray at Windust Operations. This is now available to view on our Video's page.

BCCC Round 1 Report It was 9pm on Friday 11th April when Ken Powell and Jonathan Stevenson arrived at, a wet and soggy Baden Hall, for the first round of the British Cross Country Championship (BCCC). However, the lack of light was an advantage as they could not see just how muddy the ground was until Saturday morning arrived. Saturday began with a quick walk of the 4 mile course, as Ken was familiar with the site, having raced there previously on several occasions. Marches 4 x 4 had set out a course which encompassed various surfaces including grass, concrete and gravel - all of which were very wet! After donning the waterproofs and attending drivers briefing with the other 64 competitors, it was time to line up in numerical order and wait for the first 32 drivers to complete their first run. Whilst queuing, the engine started to splutter which added to the tension in the cock pit and having reached the start line, the course was closed. A twenty minute delay was the result of number of competitors getting stuck due to the ever increasing slippery conditions. The run started with a spin in the woods and didn't get much better. By the end of the lap, the team were relieved to have made it around in one piece. It was a steep learning curve for Ken driving on the championship controlled all terrain tyres for the first time. Ken had opted for the General Grabber AT2 tyres which had been very gratefully supplied by the team tyre sponsor Mudhut Off-Road . For the second run, part of the course had been abandoned leaving laps of just 1.5 miles each for competitor to drive for the rest of the day. Unfortunately, run 2 saw the vehicle sustain damage. After hitting a tree, part of the bodywork was torn off and Jonathan was sent back on foot to collect it later. The next 2 runs were uneventful and at the end of Saturday, Ken lay in 18th position, 1 second behind fellow Midlander, Alan Kirkland. Sunday saw conditions improve significantly with sunshine and clear skies. With the course reopened to its full length, Ken posted top 10 times on all Sunday runs. This pushed him up the leaderboard, finishing in a very respectable 9th overall. Ken was delighted with the result saying "It's amazing to get a top 10 finish in our first race in the British Championship, especially in a new motor with the control tyres". The good result has helped the team gain an additional sponsor - Truflame Welding Equipment, for the next round at Driffield on 7th and 8th June.

BCCC Running Number Announced Ken has been allocated running number 33 for the BCCC in 2008.

First Race Today saw Ken race for the first time in the Mattserati. He decided to enter the Peak & Dukeries Comp Safari at Eckington as a shakedown event ahead of the BCCC season to see how the Mattserati would perform in tight and twisty conditions. As the course was very wet it would also test Ken's ability to cope with a windscreen and the washers and wipers ability to keep the screen clear. Despite the course layout not being suited to the Mattserati, Ken put in a very competitive time on his first lap. The second lap would see Ken post the quickest time of any competitor so far. Over the next 6 laps Ken continued to improve his times and eventually took 1st place by 41 seconds. Eckington proved to be a successful outing in both terms of the result and the driving experience gained. A short video can be seen on the Vehicle page.

Mattserati Arrives 2008 will see Ken drive a new motor. After much thought, Ken has decided to compete in the BCCC in a Mattserati rather than the Land Rover Special 88" he has been driving for the past few years. The Mattserati is more suited to the BCCC due to a longer wheelbase and greater suspension travel. More details to follow shortly......

Zietlow selects latest Goodyear Wrangler tyres for Dakar-Moscow record attempt

comp safari tyres

To market the launch of the new Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure , Goodyear is supporting Rainer Zietlow in his attempt to drive 5,000 miles from Dakar to Moscow in a world record time of less than four days. The German adventurer and his co-drivers began the world record attempt on Saturday, setting out from the Senegalese capital in a Wrangler-shod Volkswagen Amarok.

The journey will test the Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure tyres in a range of conditions, from the sandy desert of the Sahel region to the often-tricky roads encountered in Eastern Europe. In addition to relying upon the Goodyear tyre’s grip and durability, Zietlow will draw upon prior experience gained during five world record runs, including his Norway to South Africa journeys in 2014 and 2015 and his drive from Russia to Portugal last year. This year’s journey takes him through ten countries: Senegal, Mauritania, Morocco, Spain, France, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Russia. He will cross the Mediterranean by ferry from Tanger to Tarifa.

As he did with his previous challenges, Zietlow will donate the funds he raises to the charity SOS Children’s Village in Senegal, which he visited just before commencing the world record run. Rainer Zietlow will donate around 1,500 euros, which is roughly 20 euro cents per kilometre driven.

“The Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure is our latest tyre to carry the legacy of the award-winning Wrangler family,” says Martijn de Jonge, brand director Consumer PBU EMEA at Goodyear. “The tyre’s improved toughness, versatility and increased mileage will support Rainer and his team brilliantly during this demanding challenge.”

“With Goodyear as a partner we have reliable tyres that offer the on-and off-road performance that we will definitely need. The Kevlar reinforced Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure’s durability is a huge help when attempting to establish a new world record,” adds Rainer Zietlow.      sg

Re: Best size tyre/wheel for comp safari racing? « Reply #1 on: October 01, 2011, 02:10:14 PM ». Most people will use 205/16 as that's what size the vast majority of Diamonds come in! This also depends on the surface as quite a few people run a different tyre for somewhere like Forrest (gravel) as the rest of the rounds (finest Scotch clarts).

For Comp Safari I'd pick 100" as stability is more important than maneuverability but others will prefer 88". If you want to shorten it cut the chassis between the radius and trailing arms. As for the arse end cut it about 6" behind the spring turret & make your own rear cross member.

A standard steering box is about 3.5 to 3.75 turns lock to lock (that may be with no steering stops!) with small comp safari tyres on. I have heard (mainly on ebay descriptions and trawling the internet) that you can redrill the swivel housing arm to move the track rod end pivot point further towards the swivel pivot point.

Description. NEW RANGE ROVER EVOQUE LRM- 1 - COMP SAFARI - RALLY. Brand new straight of the motorsport stable is the Range Rover Evoque LRM - 1, today's equivalent to a group B rally car, with the stunning detailing & lines created by Jaguar Land Rover @Gaydon to 4/5th's the everyday road going edition.

Totally digressed off your original tyre question. Still think that 206R16 Diamonds or 235/75 directional diamonds are the best all round choice. We ran a couple of BFGoodrich MT's but they clog too easily in the deeper mud compared to the Kingpin highlander diamonds.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.
