Itinerary subject to port berthing confirmation

Start your journey in the gay capital of Spain and one of the most important cultural and economic centers in Spain, and indeed Europe. Since its founding, Barcelona has always been a center of art and design, culminating with Gaudi's masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia Basilica, a prime example of Art Nouveau architecture, with its bold color, beautiful tilework and swirling lines. Spend a day wandering through the old Gothic quarter or take a 30-minute trip to Sitges, the famed gay Spanish beach resort.

Image of Barcelona, Spain (embark)

Sailing on Resilient Lady with Atlantis is unlike any cruise experience we’ve ever created. Explore her striking design and unique places to play. Let us entertain you in unexpected ways everywhere you turn.

Image of Barcelona Depart / At Sea

The capital of Spain’s Costa del Sol welcomes over 6 million tourists each year to Malaga’s powder-white beaches, Picasso Museum, and inviting old town. Walk up the hill to city’s 2 massive hilltop citadels, the Alcazaba and ruined Gibralfaro, remnants of Moorish rule. Or head over to nearby Marbella, one of the most beautiful and inviting port cities in the Med.

For a spectacular once-in-a-lifetime experience, head up the palace of Alhambra in legendary Granada. Our late stay lets you do it all!

Image of Malaga, Spain

There are probably no more famous streets in the world than those in the capital city of Andausia. Breathtakingly beautiful Seville is the 4th largest city in Spain, founded as a Roman town and now features a unique mix of Roman and Moorish architecture, alongside remarkable modern buildings. Visit the lavish St. Mary of the See Cathedral, one of the largest medieval and Gothic buildings in the world, or the sweeping grounds of Plaza de España. Just don’t miss a chance to indulge in the city’s unique tapas scene.

And if you don’t want to take the hour trek to Seville, Cadiz, is an outstanding introduction to Andalucia. The charming old quarter in Cadiz makes it easy to see why this small seaside town is frequented by Spaniards on holiday.

Image of Seville (Cadiz), Spain

Sophisticated and electric, the crown jewel of Portugal is one of the most captivating cities in Europe. You'll see why this city reigns above all others as you stroll along elaborate mosaic sidewalks and pass by the Monument to the Discoveries. We're there a full day and night, allowing you to take in the extravagant nightlife and gay culture in Bairro Alto and Principe Real. Dine, dance, and indulge in any way you choose!

Image of Lisbon, Portugal

Journey into the Seven Hills district to experience castles and cathedrals. Wherever you turn, the streets are lined with colorful ceramic and antique shops, street artisans and aromatic cafes. Or if you choose, be lured off and pampered in the resort cities of Cascais and Estoril.

Image of Lisbon, Portugal

A spectacular coastal city, also known as La Ciudad Cristal – The City of Glass, so designated from the all-glass balconies characteristic of La Coruña's beautiful hillside homes. This stunning city on Portugal's doorstep invites you to a hike up the plush, stunning coastline or mingle in the many marketplaces. Relax in a café with Spanish tortillas in flavors you never imagined. A number of gay and gay-friendly bars and cafes help make La Coruña one of Spain's best-kept secrets.

Image of La Coruna, Spain

Bilbao welcomes you with its love of food, wine, laughter and (yes) bullfighting. Take a stroll down the new, ultra-modern Zubizuri Bridge to the cultural center of Euskalduna Palace. Venture out on a "poteo" – a small glass of wine here and there with typical "pintxos" or tapas – and experience the delicious character of the locals up close. A visit to Bilbao's spectacular Guggenheim Museum is also a must for those with an appetite for the amazing.

Image of Bilbao/San Sebastián, Spain

A thriving city in the heart of the French wine country, Bordeaux is filled with shops, cafes and, of course, some of the best vino in the world. Take a lesson at Bordeaux Wine School, indulge in a vinotherapie spa treatment at the Sources des Caudalie or uncork a bottle at one of 5,000 wine chateaux.

Image of Bordeaux (Le Verdon), France

Relax. Connect. Play. That’s a day at sea with Atlantis. Start off whenever you feel like it – after all you’re on vacation. Join a few friends for brunch or find your place in the sun. Drop into the Spa for a pampering treatment or refreshing workout. Take in a few pool games or a little afternoon silliness like Bingo. Just make sure you’re ready for one of our last legendary t-Dance!

Image of Wonderful Day at Sea

The capital and largest city of England and the UK, London is very diverse and rich, reflecting the city’s history and its role as a global metropolis. London has a vibrant and influential scene and is packed full of LGBTQ+ bars, clubs, events, theatre, arts and more.

Atlantis does not recommend flights before 10am.

Image of London (Portsmouth), UK

Spanish Summer Sun

Set sail from vibrant Barcelona where the wonders of Gaudi dot the landscape of one of Europe’s most gay-friendly cities. Marvel in the towering majesty of La Sagrada Familia or take in the panoramic views from Montjuic. It’s the perfect time to explore this spirited city’s famous gay scene and Atlantis will have plenty of options to help you make the most of it.

Our special departure time allows you to enjoy Circuit Festival’s Water Park Party — one of summer’s biggest gay events taking place on August 13. You’ll be able to check into Resilient and spend the day and even night out before we set sail the next morning.

After a playful day onboard Resilient at sea, we’ll arrive to Malaga, the birthplace of Picasso and one of Andalusia’s shining coastal gems. Explore the city’s Renaissance-era cathedral, take a side trip to legendary Granada, or enjoy the city’s sparkling beaches. Just save some energy for historic Seville where ancient streets are lined with treasures stretching from the picturesque Plaza de España, creating the perfect Spanish summer day.

Lisbon

Legends of the Atlantic

Our dramatic arrival into Lisbon will put you in the mood to enjoy the wonders and fascinating nightlife of this unique coastal city. With a full day and Saturday night to explore, you’ll truly have time to enjoy one of Europe’s most progressive and constantly changing cities.

Indulge in the culinary and visual wonders of Galicia, as La Coruna’s awe-inspiring cliffs, windswept pristine beaches, and glorious seafood tempt you at every turn. Bilbao’s stunningly modern museum sets the tone for the gateway to the magical countryside of Spain’s Basque region.

Finally you’ll have an extra-long day to explore the legendary vineyards of Bordeaux, or discover the marvels of one of France’s most recent transformations in the city itself. You’ll need one more day at sea to relax and enjoy all that Resilient has to offer before we arrive in Portsmouth just in time for London’s big long summer holiday weekend!

Land programs & hotels.

Explore landmarks in and around Barcelona, including UNESCO World Heritage sites designed by the legendary architect Antoni Gaudí, and enjoy a walking tour of medieval Girona that lends more insight into the Catalonia region.

Note: Due to the amount of walking, this program is not recommended for guests with mobility restrictions.

Upon arriving at the Barcelona International Airport, you will be met in the Arrivals Hall which is outside the luggage claim area. Please look for someone holding a sign with the cruise line logo.

You will then be transferred to the NH Gran Calderon Hotel Barcelona or a similar hotel, where you will spend the evening. Meals will be on your own today.

Your hotel is located in the Eixample district of Barcelona, just a 10-minute walk to Las Ramblas. Passeig de Gràcia, the city’s nicest shopping street, is easily reached on foot. Emblematic buildings and sights such as Casa Batlló, Casa Milà (La Pedrera), La Sagrada Familia and the Picasso museum are also nearby if you wish to visit them.

Note: Single guests will transfer in a sedan and couples in a van. Sedans hold 2 pieces of luggage plus 2 carry-on size bags. Vans hold 4 pieces of luggage plus 2-3 carry-on size bags. If you have more luggage than is permissible, a larger vehicle may be required for an additional cost. Please advise your booking agent at least 21 days before sailing if a larger vehicle is required.

After breakfast at your hotel, you will meet the guide and begin touring the city. You will pass the Columbus monument and the waterfront on the way to Sagrada Familia, the extraordinary still-unfinished church that famed architect Antoni Gaudí worked on until his death in 1926. The guide will explain the history of the church and its lengthy ongoing construction during your outside visit.

Continuing on, you will begin walking through the Gothic Quarter, passing landmarks such as the La Seu Cathedral and city hall. A more sweeping view of Barcelona awaits you upon reaching Mount Juic hill, where you may pause for photos. You will then visit Spanish Village, an open-air museum with replicas of characteristic houses from several regions of Spain. As you meander the grounds, you may observe artists such as glassblowers demonstrating their talents.

A tapas-style lunch follows, after which you will return to your hotel. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.

After breakfast at your hotel, you will settle in for a direct transfer to Girona, accompanied by a guide. Northern Catalonia’s largest city, Girona is full of museums, galleries and Gothic churches, strung around a tangle of cobbled lanes and medieval walls. Reflections of modernist mansions shimmer in the river that divides the historic center from the commercial center.

During a comprehensive walking tour of the city center, you will enjoy an inside visit of the 12th-century Arab baths and see the remains of Girona’s historical Jewish community. During free time that follows, you might savor lunch on your own before transferring back to Barcelona, where the remainder of the evening will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.

Following breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will travel to Colonia Güell, another one of Gaudí’s unfinished works. Like La Sagrada Familia, this church is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Businessman Eusebio Güell commissioned Gaudí to build it for his textile factory workers in the village of Santa Coloma de Cervelló. The church is particularly noteworthy because the famed architect introduced advanced technology on it that he finetuned in later projects.

In time, you will travel to Cavas Freixenet in the heart of the Penedès region, a region well-known in Roman times for producing quality wines. There, you will tour the cellars, learn about the production of its sparkling cava wine and enjoy a lunch of local specialties.

Afterwards, you will return to Barcelona for embarkation.

•The order of sites visited may vary to avoid congestion. Program times are approximate, given here for general reference purposes and subject to change.

•Itineraries with up-to-date details will be issued when you are emailed your final cruise documents 21 days prior to sailing. Explore prominent landmarks and extraordinary cities that define Spain, many of them World Heritage sites, an experience that will leave you with a deeper historical and cultural perspective of the country.

NOTE: this program starts in Madrid, Spain therefore arriving flights need to be booked into the Madrid International Airport (MAD). This tour is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties or for those who use a wheelchair, walker or scooter due to the amount of walking, many steps and cobbled surfaces. There are long segments of driving on this program.

Upon arriving at the Madrid International Airport, you will be met in the Arrivals Hall which is outside the luggage claim area. Please look for someone holding a sign with the cruise line logo.

You will then be transferred to your hotel, where you will spend the evening. Meals are on your own today.

Note: Single guests will transfer in a sedan and couples in a van. Sedans hold 2 pieces of luggage plus 2 carryon size bags. Vans hold 4 pieces of luggage plus 2 -3 carry-on sized bags. Should you have more luggage than is permissible, a larger vehicle may be required with additional cost. Please advise your booking agent at least 21 days before sailing if a larger vehicle is required.

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will depart for Toledo, a city so architecturally rich that Spain has declared it a national monument. UNESCO agreed and designated the historic center a World Heritage site, in part because three religions existed harmoniously here—Christianity, Islam and Judaism.

As you walk through this extraordinary city on the Tagus River, you will get a genuine feel for what life was like here in the Middle Ages. The historic city center is that atmospheric. The Toledo Cathedral is particularly impressive, as it is considered one of Europe’s greatest Gothic buildings. Built over nearly three centuries, starting in 1226, the cathedral contains a spectacular high altar and two painting by El Greco, the famed painter that lived in Toledo.

Lunch follows, after which you will return to Madrid. As an introduction to Spain’s vibrant capital, you will drive past key landmarks before starting an enlightening walking tour in Plaza Mayor. This grand arcaded square in the heart of the city offers wonderful options for shopping and dining nearby, as you may discover during free time.

By late afternoon, you will return to the hotel, where you will spend the evening with dinner on your own.

Note: In Toledo there will be approximately 2.5 km / 1.5 miles of walking over paved and cobblestone surfaces with some ascending inclines. In Madrid you will have approximately 1.5km / .9 miles of walking over flat, paved surfaces.

After breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to Segovia, a World Heritage site perhaps best known for its aqueduct that was probably constructed during the reign of Roman emperor Trajan. Until about 100 years ago, the aqueduct still carried water from the Frio River into Segovia 10 miles away.

The Alcazar is another landmark that is impossible to miss. Construction began in the 12th century and its fabulous fairy-tale style supposedly inspired the design of the Walt Disney castle in part. You will also spend time in Segovia’s walled upper town, whose cathedral is the last Gothic one built in Spain. It stands where Isabella I was proclaimed the Queen of Castile in 1474.

Following lunch in Segovia, you will drive to the 16th-century Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial on the outskirts of Madrid. It too is a World Heritage site and celebrated for its austere appearance, which influenced Spanish architecture for the next half century or so. As you wander through the interior, the guide will describe the building’s illustrious history, including how King Philip II conceived El Escorial as a funerary monument for his father.

After visiting, you will return to the hotel in Madrid, where you will spend the evening with dinner on your own.

Note: In Segovia you will have approximately 1km / .6 miles of walking over cobblestones and paved surfaces, with some ascending inclines and in Escorial there will be approximately 2.5 km / 1.5 miles of walking over flat, paved surfaces.

After breakfast at the hotel, check out and meet your local guide for a two-hour drive to Siguenza. Enjoy the changing landscape along the way.

Arrive to the ancient town of Siguenza, considered one of the best kept villages in Spain. Located in a strategical location and overlooking a fertile area, the town has been inhabited since the paleolithic time, and conserves evident traces of ancient settlers such as Romans, Visigots and Arabs just to name a few.

Follow your guide on a stroll through its medieval streets, admire the central square “ Plaza Mayor “ and the façades of many elegant palaces houses, churches and convents that reflect the ancient important of Siguenza.

After lunch in typical restaurant, continue to Zaragoza (2 hour drive). Its star attraction is the multi-domed Basilica of Pilar, an important pilgrimage site. According to local legend, the Virgin Mary gave Saint James a pillar made of jasper here and instructed him to build a church on the site. This last version of El Pilar, as it’s known locally, was constructed beginning in the late 17th century.

Upon arrival, enjoy a walking tour of the old quarter. See the famous Basilica of Pilar: overlooking the Ebro River, it is famous pilgrimage site with a shrine to the Virgin Mary and multiple domes.

After visiting, check in to your hotel, where you will spend the evening with dinner on your own.

Note: In Seguenza you will have approximately approx. 1 km / .6 miles of walking over cobblestone surfaces and some light inclines and in Zaragoza approximately 1 km/ .6 miles of walking over flat, paved surfaces.

Enjoy breakfast and check out before taking a leisurely and immensely scenic drive to the Poblet Monastery. A 12th-century church stands at the center of this sacred World Heritage site, which features a fortified royal residence. While touring, you will learn about the monks’ lifestyle in the Middle Ages and the mountainous route that connects this Cisterian monastery to two others.

Continuing on to the nearby medieval village of Montblanc, you can expect to see its Gothic churches, the royal palace and the city’s 14th-century stone walls, more than half of which still exist.

After lunch, proceed to the port of Barcelona where you will embark the ship.

Note: At the Monastery of Poblet you will have approximately 1.5 km / .9 miles of walking and about 10 steps to negotiate. In Montblanc there will be approximately 1 km./.06 miles of walking over cobblestone surfaces

Elegantly decorated in blues and silvers with stunning Versace tableware, this sumptuous eatery delights with a beautifully refined atmosphere bathed in natural light during the day.

  • Prime 7 A true classic in every sense, Prime 7 sets a new standard in American steakhouse fare. Handsomely decorated with supple leather wing-back chairs, burnished woods and earth-toned fabrics, Prime 7 even allows you to watch chefs working their magic in the kitchen. • Sette Mari at La Veranda Each evening, La Veranda transforms into Sette Mari at La Veranda, a casual, intimate dining experience. Choose from authentic Italian specialties inspired by family recipes that span generations, or opt for something with a modern twist like a spice-crusted tuna steak with braised endive, polenta and salmoriglio. Savor it all with a perfectly paired Tuscan wine. Sette Mari at La Veranda is open for dinner only.

Come on along and listen to…The lullabies of Broadway! Our fabulous Production Cast Singers pay tribute to some of the most iconic tunes from an array of the best musicals in town, and throughout the ages! Put on your Dancin' shoes and join us for an evening of great music and lots of dancing! We'll jive in the cotton club, salsa on the streets of Latin America, quick step in the Rainbow Room, celebrate Broadway with a little Fosse, and get down to some disco at Studio 54! Our Dancin' Fool will take you on a toe tappin' journey you won't want to miss!

Take your seats for a fast-paced journey featuring some of the best of rock and roll in town! We’re Here for the Party as we journey to some southern rock in Sweet Home Alabama and then get a little funky as we Dance to the Music. Life in the Fast Lane continues with some R&B greats made famous by Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin, before slowing things down a touch with favorites from James Taylor and Carole King. Super charged hits by The Who and a high-energy finale take us into a magical finale of Rockin’ Soul.

See your favorite cinematic classics come to life in this cultivated tribute to the most recognizable moments of the Hollywood movie musical, from the romantic glamour of the 1940s to the high-kicking can-can of the Moulin Rouge. So, curtain up…light the lights…as we proudly present… THE HOLLYWOOD MUSICAL!

  • Atrium At the hub of the ship, our Atrium is an inspiring testament to the grandeur of luxury ocean travel. Center staircases connect conveniences on Deck 5 to the social spaces of the Voyager lounge and Casino, as well as Compass Rose on Deck 4. This makes it a natural gathering place for guests, signified by a beautiful compass-shaped tile floor at the landing.
  • Bocce Court The originators of bocce ball 7,000 years ago couldn’t have imagined their simple game being played high atop a glorious ocean liner … but you’ll be able to do more than imagine while playing it onboard Seven Seas Voyager®. Bocce ball – also known as Italian lawn bowling – is played with a pallina and 8 larger balls, all of course provided.
  • Card & Conference Room Two complete Card and Conference Rooms can be used for everything from bridge lectures and tournaments to corporate meetings and special events. Gather with a few friends for an afternoon or evening of fun competition with board games, cards and more. Larger groups may increase space by removing the dividing door and combining both rooms.
  • Destination Services If the road to a richer life is paved with the lessons of new discoveries, our Destination Services is a great place to start. Learn about the adventures available to suit every taste and comfort level during your voyage from our dedicated staff. They can arrange unique shore excursions designed for smaller groups or assist with tailor-made pre-and post-cruise programs, from a simple stay in a luxurious hotel to a 3-night extension in a remote locale.
  • Golf Nets The glorious ocean vistas you’ll admire every day won’t necessarily have you thinking of golf course fairways, but if you find yourself wishing you could be practicing your fairway swing, head to our Golf Net. All the clubs and golf balls you need are available. Who knows? Maybe you’ll return home from your voyage with a few kinks worked out of your golf swing...
  • Internet Cafe If you prefer to travel without a laptop, our staffed Internet Cafe offers desktop computers that allow you to access your emails and browse the Internet. Printer access is available for a nominal fee. Seven Seas Voyager® provides WiFi access throughout the ship, allowing you to connect to the Internet with whatever device you’ve brought on board.
  • Library Well-stocked and offering comfort for the body and mind, you’ll discover our Library is a most civil setting for reading and relaxing. Curl up with a classic novel or best-selling mystery, play a strategic game of chess or simply soak up the ambience of a sumptuous reading room. Whatever draws you here, you’ll find our library to be a welcoming, low-key treasure you just may find hard to leave.
  • Pool Bar When you envision the type of activity you’re only likely to do while on vacation, sipping a frozen drink at a pool bar onboard a glorious cruise ship is probably near the top of the list. You can tick that box at our Pool Bar, where you and new friends can enjoy leisurely conversation over cocktails and frozen drinks in a delightfully relaxed atmosphere.
  • Pool Deck Our Pool Deck is one of the most expansive at sea and features a large heated pool, two whirlpools and table tennis. Surrounded by luxurious teak accents, you’ll be consistently awestruck by the pool’s magnificent vistas high upon Seven Seas Voyager®. You’ll also be impressed by our amiable and dedicated crew, who stand at the ready to provide refreshing beverages and plush towels.
  • Putting Green While the Golf Net is meant to help you improve your fairway swing, our Putting Greens are less about self-improvement than group fun as your ship travels from one destination to another. A popular pastime is gathering friends after an afternoon cocktail and heading to the top deck of Seven Seas Voyager® for a spirited competition as twilight approaches and a delicious dinner in one of our stellar restaurants looms.
  • Shuffleboard This isn’t the sleepy version of shuffleboard. From high atop Seven Seas Voyager®, you’ll be enchanted by ocean vistas stretching horizon to horizon as you engage in a game that dates back to 15th-century England. All equipment is well-maintained and available for use – all you have to do is bring a team, or perhaps join one in need of a player.
  • The Casino If you’re in the gaming mood, head to our elegantly appointed Casino for a few hands of blackjack or to try your luck at roulette, poker, the craps table or slot machines. Whether you’re a player or spectator, the excitement is contagious, the drinks delightful and the staff welcoming. Our stylish Casino is open every day at sea when not restricted by territorial border limits.
  • Connoisseur Club The very popular Connoisseur Club is where you can order a rare vintage cognac or port and pick a fabulous cigar (both are available for purchase). This elegant hideaway is guaranteed to envelop you in comfortable leather armchairs and a club-like atmosphere that gives rise to good conversation and bonhomie. As you’d guess, smoking is permitted in this gathering place.
  • Constellation Theater Smartly tiered for pleasing sightlines and decked out with delightfully plush seating, our Constellation Theater is an intimate venue without a bad seat in the house. Settle in, admire the grand surroundings, and be prepared to witness phenomenal performances that vary from full-scale musical revues to rousing singalongs, all backed by our incredible, five-piece Regent Signature Orchestra.
  • Horizon Lounge The Horizon Lounge is an ideal destination for classic cocktails or to simply relax and engage in conversation with new friends. Resident musicians play familiar tunes throughout the day as well as before and after dinner, making it ideal for informal plans. Game shows, night entertainment and live musical events are featured regularly.
  • Observation Lounge The Observation Lounge is a chic yet comfortable space to read, relax and enjoy a cocktail while admiring the spectacular views offered every time Seven Seas Voyager® enters and leaves one of its worldwide ports of call. Live music is played throughout the day, making this another inviting onboard destination to to unwind with afternoon tea, pre-dinner cocktails or a satisfying nightcap.
  • Voyager Lounge Discover for yourself why the Voyager Lounge and nightclub is the perfect venue to meet new friends for a pre-dinner cocktail. As the night progresses, the spectacularly designed space turns into a nightclub where night owls gather to dance into the night or maybe sing along in a karaoke competition. Musicians entertain nightly, and during the late hours on selected nights a DJ spins records and takes requests.
  • Fitness Center Serene Spa & Wellness™ fitness experts lead popular exercise classes, such as Pilates, yoga and meditation and are on hand to offer advice and demonstrate the use of fitness equipment. Top lawyer falls from cabin balcony into sea on luxury cruise

A corporate lawyer who vanished on a Mediterranean cruise ship fell feet first from a cabin balcony into the sea, a court heard.

Nigel Blythe-Tinker, 72, former head of legal at gaming giant William Hill, went missing while on board the luxury cruise ship Seven Seas Mariner , the world’s first cruise liner to boast “all suite, all balcony” cabins , in July last year.

The High Court heard that the alarm was raised when Blythe-Tinker, who also had a stint as chairman of Ladbrokes’ multibillion-pound parent company GVC Holdings, failed to disembark the ship at Barcelona, though he was on board when it departed Marseilles the previous day.

His family made “desperate attempts” to make contact with him, after which staff on the ship found his cabin empty with his “clothes folded neatly on the bed”.

Following evidence from Blythe-Tinker’s daughters, judge Chief Master Karen Shuman declared that their father met his death after falling feet first into the sea from his cabin balcony in the early hours of July 22.

The court heard that Blythe-Tinker, who was originally from Worksop, Notts, had been married three times and has two adult daughters, Sophie and Claire Blythe-Tinker.

He had been in the process of moving back to England after a period living in Australia when he vanished.

The 709-foot, 48,000-ton ship is hailed online as “one of the world’s best all-inclusive cruise ships”, with individual balconies attached to each cabin.

The cruise liner, which carries 700 passengers and 445 crew, was en route from Marseilles to Barcelona on July 21 2023 when Blythe-Tinker, who had been in “constant contact” with his family, began to display unusual behaviour and send messages in which he “wasn’t himself”.

Blythe-Tinker had been renovating a house in England he had bought near to the home of his “close” cousin Andrew Gilling and had told Mr Gilling that he had been worried about having enough money to complete the project.

He told his cousin he had had “a suicidal thought” and also seemed confused in messages with other family members, his London-based daughter Sophie, a history and politics teacher, told the judge.

His family contacted staff on the ship and the onboard doctor was dispatched to check on the lawyer, who said he had “no suicidal thoughts” and was physically well apart from back pain.

However, when the ship docked in Barcelona on the morning of July 22 last year, Blythe-Tinker did not disembark and his cabin was empty.

The ship’s CCTV revealed footage of an object – which appeared to be a person – falling from the vessel near to Blythe-Tinker’s cabin balcony and hitting the water.

Sophie Blythe-Tinker brought a High Court application for an examination of the circumstances in which her father vanished, asking for a declaration that he was dead.

She told the judge that he had seemed “strange” in his responses to messages and emails shortly before his disappearance.

When he failed to turn up at Heathrow airport – where he had been due to fly after leaving the ship in Barcelona – his family panicked and made “desperate attempts” to find out where he was. They eventually learned from the cruise company that he had never disembarked at Barcelona.

He ‘wasn’t himself’

Giving judgment in the case and declaring the missing lawyer officially dead, the judge said Blythe-Tinker had been “an active 72-year-old” who “travelled extensively”.

However, he “wasn’t himself” and had become “increasingly abnormal” during his time on the ship, she said.

“I have viewed the video evidence,” she said. “Something descends from the ship at 4.28am. I’m prepared to accept that that was a body and the direction is consistent with it coming from the suite Mr Blythe-Tinker was in.

“The ship was miles from any port or land at the time.

“I’m satisfied on the evidence before me that Mr Blythe-Tinker died at 4.28 central European time by falling to his death from the ship that he was on,” the judge concluded.

Cruise carrying 1,500 passengers stuck in Barcelona port over Bolivian visa dispute

The ship had sailed from Brazil and was on course for Croatia before the incident involving Bolivian passengers.

A cruise ship carrying hundreds of passengers is stuck in the port of Barcelona after a group of Bolivian passengers were found to have visa issues, according to officials.

Authorities said 69 Bolivians are not being allowed to leave the liner as they do not have valid documents to enter the EU's border-free Schengen area.

There are some 1,500 passengers on board the luxury MSC Armonia, which had set sail from Brazil and was to continue through the Mediterranean Sea to Croatia.

Spanish government officials in Barcelona said they were in contact with Bolivian authorities and MSC Cruises to resolve the situation.

The Bolivians on board included families and children, MSC Cruises said in a statement.

It said: "The passengers appeared to have proper documentation upon boarding in Brazil.

"We have been informed by the authorities that the visas are not valid for entry into the Schengen area. As a result, passengers have not been able to disembark in Barcelona, which was their final destination."

Catalan newspaper Ara reported a Bolivian woman felt she was treated like "a criminal [in a] prison" despite claiming she paid for a visa from an agency which told her it was valid.

The newspaper also reported passengers claiming they had been allowed to leave the cruise in Tenerife without impediment, before being blocked in Malaga and eventually stopped in Barcelona.

The Schengen area is an ID check-free travel zone comprising 29 European countries, most from the European Union.

  • The passengers are being held on another boat while authorities investigate.

Insider Today

A cruise ship carrying 1,500 passengers was stuck in port in Barcelona after Spanish authorities investigated 69 Bolivian passengers.

The police believed that the Bolivian passengers' visas were fake and are investigating, Spanish police authorities told news agency Efe .

The MSC Armonia cruise ship set off from Brazil and was due to continue through the Mediterranean, with some passengers switching over in Barcelona, Efe reported.

Related stories

The delay has meant that planned stops in France, Greece, and Croatia have been canceled which has caused some disgruntled passengers to leave the boat early, Reuters reported.

Barcelona was meant to be the final destination for the Bolivian passengers. However, the ship had to stay in port until the situation was resolved.

In a statement shared with Business Insider, MSC Cruises confirmed that the cruise would resume sailing on Thursday.

"Thanks to the cooperation with the Spanish authorities, the group of Bolivian guests has been disembarked and will now follow the immigration process as required by law. We are fully assisting with this process," they said.

The spokesperson confirmed that the passengers' visas were found to be not valid for entry and that the Spanish authorities are investigating.

The passengers' will be held on another boat while Spanish authorities decide whether they will be deported or granted asylum, Reuters reported, citing the government's regional delegation in Catalonia.

Solange Duarte, a Bolivian diplomat in Barcelona, told the AP that she had received reports that some of the Bolivian passengers had been duped into obtaining fake visas.

MSC Cruises is one of the world's largest cruise lines, known for its long luxury trips that can set sail for months at a time.

Its new four-month-long world cruise, which will set off in 2026, is expected to cost passengers between $15,800 and $38,210 per person, depending on their cabin.

MADRID (AP) — Spain will on Thursday deport more than 60 Bolivians who arrived last week by cruise ship in the northeastern port of Barcelona but were not allowed to disembark because their visas were false.

The Spanish government’s office in Barcelona said 65 of the 69 Bolivians who arrived will be flown to the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz. The plane will be paid for by MSC Cruises, which owns the ship in which they arrived from Brazil.

Four members of a family with Spanish relatives will be allowed to enter Spain.

Spanish authorities said the Bolivian passengers had false visas to enter the European border-free Schengen area, an ID-check-free travel zone comprising 29 European countries.

The Bolivians’ visa problems meant that the cruise ship with more than 1,000 passengers was stuck for two days in Barcelona and unable to continue on its route in the Mediterranean Sea until the situation was resolved.

The cruise ship set sail after the Bolivians were temporarily accommodated in another boat while police interviewed them.

MSC Cruises said last week the Bolivian passengers’ documentation appeared correct upon boarding in Brazil.

MSC Armonia incident: Spain to deport Bolivian passengers stranded in Barcelona Port

CruiseMapper logo

Spain has initiated the deportation of 65 out of the 69 Bolivians who found themselves stranded aboard a cruise ship in the port of Barcelona (Spain) since April 2nd. They arrived in the Catalan capital without valid visas to enter the Schengen Area.

The passengers embarked on the MSC Armonia cruise ship from Brazil but were unable to disembark in Barcelona due to visa issues. The scheduled flight to repatriate these passengers is set for Thursday, April 11.

MSC will cover the costs of the flight, facilitating the return of 65 passengers to their home country. However, 4 passengers, including 3 siblings, two of whom are minors, along with the daughter of one of the siblings, will remain in Catalonia due to their family ties in the region. Their parents reside in Catalonia, and one of them holds Spanish citizenship.

Upon arrival in Barcelona on April 2, the passengers were unable to disembark due to their lack of valid visas. Despite some passengers requesting asylum, their petitions were not granted.

Departing a day later than scheduled, the vessel left Barcelona on April 4 with 1,500 passengers aboard. During this time, the 69 stranded Bolivians temporarily resided on another MSC cruise ship while awaiting a resolution.

The Spanish government’s office in Barcelona said 65 of the 69 Bolivians who arrived will be flown to the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz. The plane will be paid for by MSC Cruises, which owns the ship in which they arrived from Brazil.

Four members of a family with Spanish relatives will be allowed to enter Spain .
