Namaste! Delhi is no ordinary city. Mirza Ghalib a preeminent Indian Urdu and Persian poet once wrote:

I asked my soul: What is Delhi?

She replied: The world is the body and Delhi its life!

Excellent service to cover all important places in Delhi in a comfortable and hassle free way. Customer services/ On board guides are always helpful by providing necessary information. Time punctuality was good on first day but not so on second day. It would be better if you can accommodate number of visitors in one bus as per the seating arrangement. Totally enjoyed. Thank you

HOHO is a good bus to take the tourists to different places in Goa. For most of the tourist places in Goa, this is a tour which is convenient and comfortable. The guide gives good commentary before the tourists go to a tourists spot. Good time is given to go around each and every place. The bus is punctual. The driver is careful in driving and taking care of the safety of the tourists.

Experience is very good with HOHO service. Punctuality of buses are good. Behavior and knowledge of guide is awesome. Response of customer care is fast. One information required which is not in your itenary is approx. how much time required for individual site. Also how much distance one has to cover by own in site seeing for particular site

Jaydeep Ponkiya

I have to say, they have a very efficient travel system. There are a chain of buses travelling throughout the day, and you can get up on any of them, according to the location and time. All you need is a one-time ticket which you can buy at the information center (it takes less than a minute to buy tickets). The first bus of the day starts from the information center. They have tour guides who talk about Delhi's historical monuments while you're on the bus. The tour guides convey to the information center about the number of passengers getting off and on at each stop. The thing which I liked the most was: If you're at one of the stops and you want to get on a bus, just call the information center. They will tell you when the next bus is coming, and the tour guide is going to confirm with the information center after they have picked you up.

Delhi Tourism set to launch e-ticketing system for Dilli Haats

Delhi Tourism set to launch e-ticketing system for Dilli Haats

NEW DELHI:  The visitors coming to Dilli Haats will soon be able to purchase entry tickets online in advance as Delhi Tourism has started exploring possibilities to create a platform for an e-ticketing facility. Senior officials of the department said that online ticketing facilities would not only help to maintain coronavirus protocols but minimise inconvenience to the people who have to stand in long queues, especially on weekends.

“In the post-pandemic era, the focus of all government and private entities is on digital transactions. Considering the changed scenario, it was thought that Delhi Tourism should also bring an e-ticket system for Dilli Haats and other sites as we have done at The Garden of Five Senses for Garden Tourism Festival,” said a tourism department official.

Among three facilities, the Dilli Haat at INA receives the highest footfall daily. In pre-Covid times, it would see 3,000 guests on a given day in the summer. The number crossed the 6,000-mark on a weekend or a holiday. In winters, it was more than 7,000 daily. Dilli Haat at Pitampura would get about 250 visitors every day in the summer and the footfall went up to 300 on weekends.

In winter, the number rose to 400. On Saturdays and Sundays, it was around 500 visitors. About 500 visitors would come to Janakpuri Dilli Haat daily. The footfall would increase to 700 on weekends. In winters, the daily footfall was 1,000 and doubled on weekends. The three Dilli Haats and other Delhi Tourism sites such as Nature Bazaar,

The Garden of Five Senses, Azad Hind Gram and GTB Memorial, which were shut in March due to the Covid-19 outbreak, were reopened in July. According to the officials, the footfall at Dilli Haats is gradually returning to normal. “Footfall has increased to 70-80 per cent if you compare the numbers with the pre- Covid days. We are making efforts and planning events to attract more people,” said another official

About Akshardham Temple Delhi

The word Akshardham, as per Swaminarayan Hinduism, means the abode of the Lord. It represents the serenity and the holiness of the place where devotees worship the divine and seek their blessings. It is considered to be divine home of the God on Earth. Swaminarayan Akshardham Delhi is not only a temple; Swaminarayan Akshardham complex is also a cultural and spiritual campus where varied kinds of activities and exhibitions related to Hindu religion and harmony are organised.

Akshardham Temple God is Bhagwan Swaminarayan. However, it is also dedicated to great saints, devas and averts of Hindu Gods. Skilfully carved Akshardham Mandir houses the idols of Bhagwan Swaminarayan and his successors. There are also statues of Hindu Gods and Goddess such as Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha; Lord Rama and Goddess Sita; Goddess Lakshmi and God Narayana; Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati.

Located on the banks of Yamuna River, this temple was opened to public in the year 2005. It was inaugurated by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Built according to Vastu shastra and Pancharatra Shastra , Akshardham Delhi presents a traditional architecture of Hindu Temples.

History of Akshardham Temple Delhi

Akshardham Mandir Delhi was officially opened to public on 6th November 2005. It was inaugurated by president of India late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. It took around 5 years of time to build the entire Swaminarayan Akshardham complex as per the ancient methods such as Vastu shastra and Pancharatra shastra .

Located on the banks of River Yamuna, this temple is close to the 2010 Commonwealth Games village. The idea of temple complex was conceived by Yogiji Maharaj around 1968, the then spiritual head of BAPS. Later in 1982, his successor Pramukh Swami Maharaj started the work towards the construction of Akshardham complex.

In 2000, 60 acres and 30 acres of land were offered by Delhi Development Authority and Uttar Pradesh government respectively for the project. In the month of November 2000, the construction for the temple complex was started which was completed in about 5 years. It was then officially opened in November 2005. The inauguration function was attended by the then Prime Minister of India Mr. Manmohan Singh and leader of opposition Mr. L.K Advani as well.

Akshardham Delhi has also been bestowed with Guinness world record for being the largest comprehensive Hindu Temple in the world.

Architecture of Akshardham Delhi

Constructed with pink sandstone and marble, Akshardham Mandir is the centre of the Swaminarayan Akshardham complex. The vast complex of Swaminarayan Akshardham Delhi comprises of the main temple, beautifully laid out gardens, exhibitions, open courtyards and water bodies, each section presenting an intriguing aspect of Hindu religion and spirituality.

Built in the traditional Hindu architectural style, Akshardham Delhi has been built as per ancient Indian architecture. It follows the traditional Vastu shastra as well as Pancharatra Shastra . Mandir and the entire complex display intricate carvings of flowers, animals, musicians, dancers and Hindu deities. The material used in constructing the temple – red sandstone from Rajasthan and the Italian Carrara marble, presents an alluring contrast which adds to the overall beauty of the structure. For the construction, more than 6,000 tons of pink sandstone was brought from Rajasthan.

Akshardham Temple - It stands majestically with a height of 141.3 feet and is spread with a width of 316 feet. It comprises of around 234 pillars that have been carved beautifully. It has 9 elaborately adorned domes along with 20 quadrangle peaks. There are around 20,000 idols related to Hinduism at the temple. The main statue of Swaminarayan is 11 foot long, and is placed under the central dome. The main deity is surrounded by statutes of other great sages. There are also statues of other Hindu Gods and Goddess. Each statue at the Akshardham Mandir has been constructed with five metals known as panch dhaatu .

Gates at Akshardham - The first thing to greet you at Akshardham Delhi are the majestic gates. There are 10 gates which are symbolic of 10 directions. As per Hindu beliefs these ten gates symbolizes accepting good from all directions so as to nurture the feeling of oneness and peace in the world.

Visitors pass through Bhakti Dwar, also known as Gate of Devotion to enter the Akshardham Delhi. From here, they enter the Visitor Center. There are two Mayur Dwars also known as Peacock Gates. Between these two Mayur Gates is the ‘Charnarvind’. It is a huge replica of the footprints of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. It is built in marble and has water showers from all four sides. The holy footprints also comprise of 16 holy symbols.

About Red Fort Complex

The vast stretch of red under the sun-warmed skies of Delhi is what defines the medieval madness of the city. The very sight of the bulwark speaks of its impregnable strength and stoic resistance of an old guardian. Spread over 256 acres overlooking the Yamuna with its massive enclosing walls the fort is rained in red and has stood the test of time and the anti-colonial defiance. Red Fort or Lal Qila is a representation of the cultural, political and architectural majesty of the Mughal Empire inking the Indian historical landscape with rich sundry hues.

The Qila-e-Mubarak or the blessed fort was home to Shah Jahan the Mughal Emperor and the grandson of Akbar, the greatest ruler the Mughal Empire ever saw. Not so different from Akbar, and having taken enough cues from him, Shah Jahan chartered his own course with élan. He was responsible for erecting some of the glorious structures of the time which are still identified as the most exquisite known for their sheer magnificence and the arduous journeys behind them. The Red Fort came to the being after Shah Jahan moved his capital from Agra and left his residence at the Agra Fort . He constructed a new walled city – Shahjahanbad naming it after himself and built a new residence, the Red Fort. It took a decade to complete the Red Fort which served as a residence to the Mughal rulers for nearly 200 years. The chief architect of the Red Fort was Ustad Ahmed Lahauri who started the construction in 1638 and completed in 1648.

The red in the Red Fort was always not present. What many don’t know is that the edifice was painted red by the British only after the limestone from which the building was originally built in started to chip off. The name Red Fort finds its roots in the British era after they painted it in red to preserve it and thus rechristened it to Red Fort which then had its translation to Lal Qila among the land of the people.

With the passing away of Shah Jahan the fate of the fort started to plummet as well. The successive rulers turned out to be defenceless against the rampages and pillages that followed. The Turk ruler Nadir Shah attacked the fort in 1739. The last Mughal ruler to have lived in the Red Fort was Bahadur Shah Zafar whose rule wasn’t so significant and the title was mere titular. Later when the British seized power and control, he was exiled to then Burma known as Myanmar now. And that was the end of the Mughal dynasty.

Standing proud on an area of 250 acres the Red Fort boasts of over 2 km of defensive walls adorned by bastions and turrets. The fort resembles an octagon and is decorated by marble, domes and flower engravings. Apparently the Kohinoor was part of the famous peacock throne.  The architectural, design and colour sensibilities of the fort set a rare specimen of the Mughal zeitgeist of the time. The Red Fort complex comprises the Red Fort and the Salimgarh Fort built in 1546 by Islam Shah Suri. The two gates of Red Fort: Lahori and Delhi Gates were built for the public whereas the Khizrabad Gate was what the emperor used. The Lahori Gate remains the main entrance to the Red Fort even today.

On entering the Diwan-i-‘Am, you will see the Naubat-Khana (Drum house). It is where the musicians played during ceremonial events. The huge hall has nine arches. The royal throne would be placed in the hall on the decorated alcove. Diwan-i-Khas is where the legendary peacock throne was said to be, before it was looted by Nadir Shah. The Red Fort also has Mumtaz Mahal which is now a museum, Rang Mahal, Khwabgah or the sleeping chambers, the Hammam or the royal bathing area with a garden without which any Mughal architecture is incomplete.

A site of protests, campaigns and political turbulence, Red fort was where the people marched in great number to show their solidarity for a nation they wished to call home. The fort has witnessed tears, sweat and blood during the Indian freedom struggle. The day after the iconic “Tryst with Destiny” speech delivered by Nehru, the first Prime Minister of the independent state addressed the vehement crowds at the Red Fort and raised the Indian flag – a symbol of the new found freedom ushering in an era of liberation, belonging and existence. An era, that was to see India becoming the biggest democracy in the world. And the tradition continues.

Every Independence Day, the existing Prime Minister delivers a speech to the waiting nation from the red rampart. The old walls of the fort have seen it all. The fort has been a witness to the long-winded spiels of the leaders while the sound of the applause from the ebullient masses cheering for a future laced with hope has reverberated through its walls with every passing year. To this day the fort soaks in the spirit of India and sees the prime minister hoisting the Tricolour with the skies filled with the colours of the flag. It’s very much a part of the Indian culture and has a special context in the ceremonial ethos of the country and its people. It’s synonymous with our freedom standing tall as a guard of honour greeting the new leaders and people who come to visit it every year to remember the struggles we had to go though to achieve the freedom.

Although the move comes as a rude awakening for all of us but if it preserves the national pride and encourages tourism then so be it. The glories of the past should remain and that’s all that matters.
