2023 German Darts Open Draw, Schedule, Results And How To Watch

The PDC Euro Tour returns this weekend as the German Darts Open , which takes place in Jena from June 8-11th September.

The draw and schedule for this weekend’s PDC European Tour event have been released, and Peter Wright will start his defence of the Interwetten German Darts Open against either Darius Labanauskas or Cameron Menzies.

The European Tour resumes play at the Sparkassen-Arena in Jena from September 8–10 for the £175,000 tournament after a two-month summer break.

Wright, a two-time German Darts Open champion, won the Czech Darts Open in May and will enter the Jena Darts Open as the eighth seed.

FOUR PDC EUROPEAN TOUR DATES CONFIRMED

Four PDC European Tour events are planned to be held in September and October, as Budapest, Jena, Gibraltar and Prague prepare to host tournaments.

The 2020 European Tour season had begun with the Belgian Darts Championship earlier this year, before the global Coronavirus pandemic led to a suspension of events.

Due to restrictions in place in Germany and the Netherlands, planned events in Sindelfingen, Leverkusen, Trier, Munich, Hildesheim, Riesa and Leeuwarden will not now be able to take place this year.

However, the following European Tour events will be able to take place later this year:

Hungarian Darts Trophy (Budapest) - September 4-6

German Darts Open (Jena) - September 11-13

Gibraltar Darts Trophy (Gibraltar) - September 25-27

Czech Darts Open (Prague) - October 16-18.

These events will be followed from October 29-November 1 with the European Championship in Dortmund.

In addition, the World Series of Darts Finals remain planned to take place in Salzburg from September 18-20, while the rescheduled BetVictor World Cup of Darts in Graz from November 6-8 will conclude the year's action in Europe.

Fans with tickets for events which have been affected by postponements will be contacted by PDC Europe in due course in relation to their booking.

CALENDAR: This is when and where the PDC European Tour events will be played in 2022

The 2022 PDC European Tour circuit consists of thirteen tournaments at the moment. Possibly a fourteenth tournament will be added to the European Tour calendar later.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the European Tour was almost at a standstill in the past two years. In 2020 only four Euro Tour tournaments took place, in 2021 even only two. When the corona situation allows, a full circuit will be played again in 2022.

PDC Calendar for 2022 released: More than 150 days of darts scheduled

European Tour but especially in Germany

Of the thirteen tournaments that have now been announced, seven will be played in Germany. The first three European Tour tournaments of the season in Riesa, Hildesheim and Munich, all take place in German cities. Later in the season events will be hosted in Leverkusen, Sindelfingen, Trier and Jena.

The other six European Tour tournaments will be held in six different countries. The Austrian Darts Open is hosted in Premstätten. The Czech Darts Open will be held in Prague, while the Dutch Darts Masters will be held in Zwolle. After the summer, other tournaments are on the calendar in Budapest (Hungary), Wieze (Belgium) and Gibraltar.

Structure of a European Tour tournament

The field of a European Tour tournament consists of 48 players. The top 16 of the Pro Tour rankings get an invitation and are automatically qualified for the second round. These seeded players have to win their second round to have their prize money count for the various rankings.

Also the two highest ranked players from the host country of a European Tour tournament are automatically qualified. For them the same rule applies as for the seeded players. They have to win their first round to get the prize money added to the ranking.

Furthermore, 24 spots are on offer at a qualifying tournament for all remaining PDC Tour Card holders. There are also a number of more qualifiers. Via a Host Nation Qualifier two players of the host nation can qualify. There is also a qualifier for players without a PDC Tour Card, where two spots can be earned. To participate in this event you must have participated in the Q-School. Finally there are qualifying tournaments for players from the Scandinavian countries and Baltic states (together one starting spot) and players from Eastern Europe (one starting spot).

European Championship in Dortmund

Prize money can be earned at each European Tour tournament. This ranges from £1,000 for a first round defeat to £25,000 for winning a tournament. All results are recorded in the PDC European Tour Order of Merit.

At the end of the season the 32 best players compete in the European Championship in Dortmund. This tournament is scheduled from October 27-30.

Insgesamt 48 Spieler werden am European Darts Grand Prix teilnehmen. Die Qualifikationskriterien wurden 2024 geändert. Die Top-16 der Weltrangliste sind automatisch für alle Events der European Tour teilnahmeberechtigt.

Hinzu kommen die besten 16 Spieler des Pro Tour-Order of Merit , zehn Gewinner eines Qualifikationsturniers für Inhaber einer Tourkarte, vier nationale Qualifikanten, ein Spieler aus der Region Nordic & Baltic und ein osteuropäischer Qualifikant.

Die Top-16 der Pro Tour-Order of Merit steigt erst ab der zweiten Runde am Samstag ein. Mit Ricardo Pietreczko ist hier auch ein deutscher Spieler dabei.

Luke Littler passed the crossbar challenge TWICE in a Life of Pie YouTube video.

Humphries supports mental health charity

World champion Luke Humphries is supporting Liverpool-based charity Chasing the Stigma ahead of the Premier League Darts.

Night 13 takes place at the M&S Bank Arena in the city on Thursday.

Ahead of the event, Humphries has teamed up with the charity to champion mental health awareness.

He told  PDC.tv : “Everybody’s struggles are different, but we all go through it and we all try and manage it as best as we possibly can.

“I’m proud of the way I battled the demons in my head. Speak to the people who are closest to you the most, they’re the people who are there in the toughest moments. “It’s important to open up on the subject and talk about it because I feel as if it’s not talked about enough.  I went out and spoke to the right people and now I stand here as a World Champion.”

The PDC European Tour continues this weekend in Graz, Austrian.

Jonny Clayton will defend his Austrian Darts Open crown after beating Josh Rock in last year's final.

Luke Littler returned to form on Friday after a Premier League Darts nightmare.

That's after he beat  Arno Merk aside without dropping a leg in the European Tour.

That has set up another clash with Luke Humphries this week.
