Holly Robinson Peete is back with a brand new project on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, and theGrio caught up with the actress to break down the new role, the new beginnings her character Madeline steps into and “evolving as a person.”

Premiering this weekend, Holly Robinson Peete stars in “The Journey Ahead” alongside Kaylee Bryant (“Legacies”) and Mark Humphrey (“E.N.G.”). The film follows Madeline (Peete), an aging Hollywood actress with little to no meaningful personal relationships and is dealing with some seriously bad luck. After receiving word she must travel from LA to NYC for an urgent medical appointment, she hires Sarah (Bryant) to drive her across the country. What unfolds is a story of unconditional friendship as the two women learn about each other, grow closer and lean on each other in their times of need.

Actress Holly Robinson Peete Honored With Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

TheGrio: I must first reiterate how much I enjoyed the film. I related to Madeline on so many levels throughout the film. In the beginning of Madeline’s journey, she had to make a tough choice that would stick with her for the rest of her life. How do you believe choices affect how we live our lives?

Peete: Choices have a lasting impact on our lives. We don’t often have the wisdom we need at the time to make the perfect choices. But you cannot be defined by those choices even though they do impact your life. I often wish I could go back and make better choices with the wisdom I have at my age now, but that’s not possible!

TheGrio: Madeline is the queen of materialism items! Queen of big purses, big glasses and sky-high stilettos. Do you think deep down Madeline was clear on what really matters, or do you think she was feeding a narrative of a larger-than-life actress?

Peete: Madeline was definitely feeding the narrative of what she needed to have in her life materialistically to fill the void of what she was missing emotionally. The houses in New York, Malibu, Beverly Hills, the purses, etc., all the trappings are things that she kept herself busy with to avoid other issues and emotions she has suppressed her whole life.

TheGrio: Health and wellness are paramount, especially in highly stressful jobs. Why do you think Madeline finally took time away to tend to her health?

Peete: It wasn’t until she got bad news about her health that I believe Madeline really paid attention for the first time to her mortality. Sometimes a health scare is the jolt we need to make us pay more attention to the importance of health because, without it, wealth means nothing!

TheGrio: For so many years, Madeline was putting everybody’s needs before her own—how reflective is this of women across the world? How important is community in these instances, and did Madeline have a true community?

Peete: Women always put themselves in the back of the line…especially mothers. I don’t believe Madeline had real true friends in her community. Her criteria was all the way off as it pertains to why people are important to her. This was part of her journey of discovery with Sara.

TheGrio: We love new beginnings at theGrio—It took a potentially life-changing decision for Madeline to make changes—how do you think her perspective changed once she received favorable news from the New York doctor?

Peete: Like most people, when Madeline got that scare about her health, she realized it was an amazing opportunity to pivot and refocus her life on what really matters. Because Madeline’s life was so charmed and full of material things she believed she could hide the fact that she was deeply unhappy instead of seeking a life with actual substance. I love that she found a new beginning despite the fact that she was resisting it with her whole heart!

DesignCare 2022 Gala to benefit the HollyRod Foundation Honors Taraji P. Henson and features fashion icon Sergio Hudson

TheGrio: Multigenerational conversations were incredibly evident throughout the film; what did Madeline learn from Sarah?

Peete: Madeline learned so much from Sarah. How dare Sarah teach Madeline lessons being half her age! When we get to a certain age, we think we know everything and we don’t think anyone who hasn’t experienced as much life as we have can teach us anything. Working with Kaylee was such a treat. She is wise beyond her years. She is the same age as my daughter and I asked her how I could understand and relate to my daughter better and she said, “try listening to her.” She overheard some of my conversations with my daughter and said I was talking over her and dismissive of her point of view (which, of course, is what my daughter tells me all the time). So I found Kaylee to be helpful to me—Holly–in the same way that Sarah was helpful to Madeline!

TheGrio: There’s a new “journey ahead” for Madeline—what is your wish for her as she begins to put herself first?

Peete: My wish for Madeline is that she establishes relationships that are based on honesty, trust and true friendship. My wish for her is that she releases the guilt that she has carried for so many years as a result of some choices she made at a very young age. Madeline has redefined what happiness means on this journey.

TheGrio: What do you want viewers to take away from Madeline’s story?

Peete: I think viewers will find that there is a lot to take away from Madeline‘s journey in “The Journey Ahead!” Definitely one takeaway is the importance of being open to evolving as a person. Our journeys don’t end because we become a certain age or because a career ends. In many ways, that’s just the beginning! Continue on your journey!

“The Journey Ahead” premieres Sunday, Aug. 14 (9 p.m. ET/PT), on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.

The Journey Ahead

The Journey Ahead

  • A famous Hollywood actress and a young wilderness expert drive from Los Angeles to New York. Along the way, both women learn they can't run from their past to create the future they want.
  • Madeline Stern; demanding, entitled, cranky movie star meets extrovert, adventurer and free spirit, Sarah; on the worst day of her life. She's been aged out of her dream role, finds her husband cheating on her with his assistant, hears from her doctor that the lump in her breast needs further exploration, and a daughter she gave up for adoption over 30 years ago wants to meet her birth mother - This all happens before lunch. Who wouldn't want to leave town? "The Road Ahead" is a light hearted comedy that follows two seemingly independent women as they discover that even the most successful people need someone on whom to depend, and the seemingly free spirit might not be "free", but actually afraid to stop running from a past that haunts her.

What Is Hallmark’s The Journey Ahead About?

According to the Hallmark synopsis , Madeline (Robinson Peete) is at a crossroads in life. She is a Hollywood actress who is watching time go too fast. Moreover, she was always too busy to cultivate friendships and now finds that she lacks any sort of meaningful connection.

Madeline deals with some unlucky situations and now needs to get to New York City for an important medical appointment. Therefore, she hires her assistant’s friend Sarah (Bryant). Sarah is going to drive her from Los Angeles to New York City. Most of all, they have a deadline because she needs to make this appointment.

Wilderness expert Sarah and Hollywood star Madeline could not be more different. They are like oil and water. Between their personalities and their lifestyles, there is no common ground. Thus, the start of this road trip is very rocky.

However, things change when Sarah’s aged vehicle breaks down. Now the two are stuck in a very charming town. There, they begin to find that they have more similarities than differences.

Pretty soon, they learn to trust each other and share their lives. Each has suffered hardships. In sharing that information, the other woman is supportive, and this friendship blooms.

Moreover, each woman learns that they cannot stick their head in the sand. They have to deal with their past head-on and move forward to a better future.

Where Was Hallmark’s The Journey Ahead Filmed? Who is in the Cast?

of Where Was Hallmark’s The Journey Ahead Filmed? Who is in the Cast?

Directed by Linda-Lisa Hayter, ‘The Journey Ahead’ is a Hallmark road-trip movie that revolves around Madeline, a famous actress, and a wilderness expert named Sarah. When her travel plan to New York from Los Angeles falls through, the former enlists the help of her assistant’s best friend, Sarah, to reach the Big Apple within 12 days. As both women of two different generations embark on their cross-country trip, they learn valuable lessons from each other.

The movie tells a heartwarming story of how people can learn from one another despite their differences and overcome their problems. Apart from its talented cast, ‘The Journey Ahead’ captivates the viewers with eye-catching visuals. Given the movie’s premise, it introduces the audience to various backdrops that help accurately convey the story. Now, if you are interested to know just where the Hallmark movie was lensed, here’s all the information you need!

The Journey Ahead Filming Locations

‘The Journey Ahead’ was primarily filmed in British Columbia, mainly in and around Vancouver, Squamish. The movie’s principal photography commenced under the title ‘The Road Ahead’ in April 2022 and wrapped up in early May of the same year. So, let’s dive in and know more about the details of the filming locations, shall we?

Squamish, British Columbia

Squamish, a town north of Vancouver, served as one of the primary production locations for ‘The Journey Ahead.’ The cast and crew utilized the Paradise Valley playground, just a few minutes northeast of town, to record a river-rafting rafting scene. Moreover, they seemingly lensed numerous sequences in the Brackendale Art Gallery on Government Road, as well as The Goat bar and the Squamish Farmer’s Market on Cleveland Avenue.

Squamish is highly popular among tourists for its outdoor sports facilities and is full of natural havens that provide breathtaking visuals for moviemakers to use. Surrounded by the Coast Mountains, Squamish provides beautiful hilly backdrops that one cannot help but be in awe of. Naturally, several movies and shows have held their shooting in the area to take advantage of the visual treasure that the region holds. Other movies taped in Squamish include ‘ Antlers ‘ and ‘Final Destination.’

Vancouver, British Columbia

Vancouver, British Columbia, also hosted the production unit of ‘The Journey Ahead.’ Popularly known as Hollywood North, the city has been used as a backdrop for several movies over the years. Vancouver’s non-descript skyline and well-developed infrastructure lend well to shooting scenes depicting cities worldwide. Hence, you may see the city in the background of several beloved movies, like ‘ Thor: Love and Thunder ‘ and ‘ Honor Society .’

Other Filming Locations in British Columbia

‘The Journey Ahead’ was also filmed in and around Harrison Hot Springs village in the province; it is named after Harrison Lake, located to the north of the community. The cast and crew of the movie traveled to the village and the lake to frame scenes for the movie. Additional sequences were taped near Mount Baker in the Waputik Mountains, located on the border of British Columbia and Alberta. Lastly, pivotal portions were apparently recorded near Vancouver in Burnaby and West Vancouver, a city and district municipality, respectively.

The Journey Ahead Cast

The talented Holly Robinson Peete plays the role of Madeline, a Hollywood star. You may know the actress from her work in ‘ Our Christmas Journey ‘ and ‘ Christmas in Evergreen: Bells Are Ringing .’ Kaylee Bryant essays wilderness expert Sarah in ‘The Journey Ahead’; some of Bryant’s other acting credits include ‘ Legacies ‘ and ‘ Santa Clarita Diet .’ Other cast members include Chanelle Peloso (Katie), Natasha Burnett (Rose), Ash Lee (Dr. Wiseley), and Mark Humphrey (Carl).

Dothan United Dragons embark on team-building journey ahead of inaugural season

DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — With the launch of professional sports just one day away in the Wiregrass region, the Dothan United Dragons got together for the teams first meeting.

Dragons players have been arriving in town over the past few days. Today, they came together for a unique team bonding experience, orchestrated by head coach Carl Reynolds.

“Coach Carl, he loves these type of activities. I think they’re great to get going. The team and get to know each other,” said Dragons center-back Cristobal Molina. “So basically they dropped us out in the middle of the city we didn’t know, we had no phones on us. We had to find a clue. So us for example, it was at a restaurant and we found this map and basically just we hold the rope and have a laugh with the boys getting to know each other and making our way back to the stadium.”

Dothan Dragons ready to get season started with homegrown talent

The players were split into three teams and upon their return, they united their ropes to symbolize unity, with right-back Aiden Pinto demonstrating their collective strength by walking the tightrope.

“[This is] my first time seeing all these guys, first time in this in Dothan so it was nice just to get acquainted and just, you know see what’s what,” said Pinto. “Because I’ve been so far away from this place. So it’s nice to know that some people grew up here, what they think of the place, and yeah, look, that’s football, man. It brings everyone together from all parts of the world. So it’s eye-opening.”

Overall, the team embraced the challenge as a means to get to know each other and set the stage for their ultimate goal.

“Today was a big step in the right direction,” said Dragons striker Jordan Matthews. “We all came from not really knowing anybody’s name and all different backgrounds and cultures and different languages; and today we all had a good laugh. We’re all getting to know each other. I think we’re we’re taking a big step in the right direction and I think we’re all on the same page that we want to win a championship.”

NFL News: Pittsburgh Steelers Secure Future with Justin Fields, Long-Term Deal Sealed for Rising Quarterback Star

T he Pittsburgh Steelers’ acquisition of Justin Fields has stirred up quite the conversation in the sports world. Initially grabbed from the Chicago Bears, Fields appears to be more than just a short-term solution for the team. His journey with the Steelers, though starting on what’s considered an expiring contract, could evolve significantly with potential extensions in sight.

Justin Fields, The Pittsburgh Steeler’s Potential Quarterback of Tomorrow

When Pittsburgh Steelers snagged Fields, it wasn’t just for a season. This strategic move looks to secure a promising quarterback for future seasons, despite the looming question of his current contract expiring without a renewal. At 25, Fields is at a critical juncture where he can either become a franchise cornerstone or continue his NFL journey elsewhere.

Speculations have been rife since his trade was made public. Positioned initially as a backup to Russell Wilson, Fields isn’t just another second-string quarterback. The Pittsburgh Steelers are evidently on a mission to rekindle their winning ways, something that has been somewhat elusive since Wilson’s peak seasons. Fields, with his untapped potential, could be the key to this revival.

Pittsburgh Steelers Opt for Flexibility, Not Commitment

The decision by the Pittsburgh Steelers to pass on Justin Field’s $25.7 million fifth-year option in 2025 might seem surprising, but it’s a calculated risk. The goal? To negotiate a more favorable deal that aligns with the team’s financial framework while securing Fields as a potential leading QB for the long haul.

Pittsburgh Steelers insider Gerry Dulac hinted at an optimistic outcome, stating on The Steve Jones Show, “What they will do is, I think you will see them give [Justin Fields] a contract extension of at least two years to keep him around. They didn’t bring him around for a one-year trial.”

Justin Fields’ Road Ahead, Talent and Challenges

Despite the Pittsburgh Steelers’ recent underwhelming performances, Fields’ addition could be the breath of fresh air needed. Known for his robust athletic abilities and dual-threat capabilities, he has what it takes to stress defenses and extend plays beyond the pocket. However, his journey is not without hurdles.

Justin Fields has been prone to errors and inconsistency, leading the NFL in sacks during his sophomore year and grappling with injuries that hindered his 2023 season.

Justin Fields’ potential is evident, and with proper guidance and patience, he could refine his skills to match his physical prowess. Russell Wilson’s mentoring could be instrumental in this development. Fields, only slightly older than incoming talents like Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix, still has ample time to reshape his narrative from a promising yet unpolished athlete to a strategic and skilled quarterback.

Pittsburgh Steelers Invest in Future Franchise

The Pittsburgh Steelers are playing a long game with Justin Fields, indicating a commitment to nurturing his talent and potentially locking him down as a pivotal player for the team’s future. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on how this gamble pays off, and whether Fields can indeed become the quarterback that both fulfills and surpasses the expectations set by his new franchise.

The journey of Justin Fields with the Steelers may just be starting, but the implications of this partnership could define the team’s trajectory for years to come.

Pair of giant pandas set to travel from China to San Diego Zoo under conservation partnership

SAN DIEGO — A pair of giant pandas will soon make the journey from China to the U.S., where they will be cared for at the San Diego Zoo as part of an ongoing conservation partnership between the two nations, officials said Monday.

The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance said its caretakers recently visited China to meet the giant pandas, Yun Chuan and Xin Bao, ahead of their planned trip to Southern California. An exact date for the handoff hasn’t been set.

Yun Chuan, a mild-mannered male who’s nearly 5 years old, has “deep connections” to California, the wildlife alliance said. His mother, Zhen Zhen, was born at the San Diego Zoo in 2007 to parents Bai Yun and Gao Gao.

Xin Bao is a nearly 4-year-old female described as “a gentle and witty introvert with a sweet round face and big ears.”

“Our conservation partners in China shared photographs and personality traits of Yun Chuan and Xin Bao, but meeting them in person was so special,” said Dr. Megan Owen, the alliance’s vice president of conservation science. “It’s inspiring as people from around the world come together to conserve, protect, and care for these special bears, and we can’t wait to welcome them to San Diego.”

The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance has a nearly 30-year partnership with leading conservation institutions in China focused on protecting and recovering giant pandas and the bamboo forests they depend on.

New vikings cornerback khyree jackson is 'just not ordinary' in multiple ways.

New Vikings cornerback Khyree Jackson is not an ordinary rookie.

Jackson, drafted in the fourth round (108th overall) on Saturday, walks into the NFL as "one of the biggest [cornerbacks] in the league right now," said Ryan Grigson, the Vikings' senior vice president of player personnel. He was the tallest among 67 defensive backs at this year's combine, listed at 6-foot-3¾, and his 33-inch arms were also near the top of the class.

Jackson will also be 25 years old before he plays an NFL regular-season game.

His seven-year journey to the NFL since graduating from Wise High School in 2017 didn't seem likely from the deli counter at a Harris Teeter grocery store near his hometown of Upper Marlboro, Md.

That's where Jackson worked when he didn't play football in 2017 or 2018. He starred as a receiver for a state title-winning high school, but Jackson didn't have the grades for Division I recruitment. He enrolled at Arizona Western College in Yuma, Ariz., but before the season, he left the team and went back to live at home.

"At one point I wasn't really thinking about football much," Jackson said Saturday. "I had just won employee of the month at a grocery store, so I really wasn't thinking much about it, honestly. I told my mom at one point in time, I guess I'm about to be working at a grocery store. … For a bit of a second, football got a little bit foggy."

Jackson said he stayed close to football because he had friends playing at D-I programs. He even avoided those friends and others when he initially moved home to Maryland in the fall of 2017, pretending to still be in school in Arizona.

"I stayed in my house for six straight months, and nobody knew," Jackson said. "It was kind of like eating away at me. And I finally eventually just told my friends. That was like — that moment really told me, like, if I was embarrassed to even tell them, I might want to get up and try to do it again instead of sitting here sulking."

Jackson, an avid gamer, was preparing for an "NBA 2K" video game tournament in New York when Fort Scott Community College head coach Kale Pick emailed him. The coach wanted to know if Jackson wanted to play football again.

He said yes, reigniting a journey that took him to Kansas, Mississippi and the University of Alabama, where he signed as a coveted junior college recruit in 2021. He was a reserve under former Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban for much of his time at Tuscaloosa, making one start in 21 appearances. His tenure ended with a suspension in November 2022 for undisclosed reasons.

Jackson transferred last season to Oregon, where he said he thrived with "a coach who trusted in my abilities." He was named a first-team All-Pac-12 selection with 10 deflections and three interceptions in 12 games.

"I wouldn't change [the journey] for the world, though," Jackson said. "I felt it taught me a lot of perseverance and turned me into the man I am today. I feel like I don't take no shortcuts. … That mentality came from juco and being at the bottom and seeing what it's like to not have anything, to having everything going to some of the top programs."

The Vikings were impressed with how Jackson held his own, earning top honors while twice seeing Washington's prolific passing attack led by quarterback Michael Penix Jr., drafted No. 8 overall by the Falcons, and receiver Rome Odunze, drafted at No. 9 by the Bears.

Coaches and scouts saw how Jackson moved fluidly for his large size and how he had decent recovery speed, clocking a 4.5-second 40-yard dash at the combine. Those are appealing traits for a Vikings defense that needs length and speed if coordinator Brian Flores wishes to play more man-to-man coverage.

"The way he drops his weight, his hips, his footwork, it just — again, it's just not ordinary," said Grigson, the Vikings' talent evaluator. "I love the pick because I think all the coaches and everyone see the talent and see some of the rare things that is really hard to get in this [fourth] round."

Jackson's confidence also stood out to the Vikings. Grigson recalled a conversation at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., where the Vikings had their first of multiple meetings with Jackson this offseason.

"I just told them I was the best corner in the draft," Jackson said. "I told them they were probably going to be getting me for cheaper because of some of the politics that go into it. … I was in a very pass-heavy conference this year. I think I showed versus a lot of top-tier receivers and quarterbacks what I could do."

Vikings CB Khyree Jackson has come a long way, from a deli counter to the 4th round in the NFL draft

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — Every player in the NFL draft has a story. Khyree Jackson’s journey to the Minnesota Vikings might well warrant a screenplay one day, if the cornerback can establish himself in the league.

The Vikings took Jackson in the fourth round on Saturday to kick off their slate of day-three picks, using the 108th overall pick on the 6-foot-4, 194-pound product of Oregon with skills in press coverage and run stopping who fits well with defensive coordinator Brian Flores’ scheme.

Not that long ago, Jackson wasn’t sure he fit anywhere on the field at all.

“For a bit of a second, football had got a little foggy, I would definitely say,” Jackson said.

Here’s what happened: After winning two Maryland state championships as a wide receiver with Wise High School in Upper Marlboro, Jackson’s academic standing forced him down an alternative path. He initially attended Arizona Western Community College, but he came back to Maryland after a couple of weeks and was so embarrassed by his dropout he laid low at home “for about six months.”

He got a got a job in the deli at a Harris Teeter supermarket, slicing ham for a living and even winning an employee of the month award. He got so good at video games he seriously considered trying to make the NBA 2K esports league and was training for a tournament when he got a call from Fort Scott Community College about getting back into football. He played there in 2019 after two full seasons off, switched to cornerback and suddenly was back on a major college track.

After enrolling at East Mississippi Community College and navigating the pandemic shutdowns, Jackson landed at Alabama. His first start came in the national championship game after the 2021 season, and one year later he transferred to Oregon to finish his college career.

The 24-year-old hit it off with Vikings coaches at the Senior Bowl.

“I just told them I was the best corner in the draft and I thought they were probably going to be getting me for cheaper because of some of the politics that go into it,” Jackson said. “Just being honest, I felt confident in my ability, and the numbers spoke for themselves. I was in a very pass-heavy conference this year. I think I showed versus a lot of top-tier receivers and quarterbacks what I could do.”

The Vikings signed Shaquill Griffin in free agency to supplement returning starters Byron Murphy and Akayleb Evans. Mekhi Blackmon is in the mix. Andrew Booth will still have an opportunity. But cornerback remains as wide-open a position as any on the team.

“We’re just watching highlights and a guy’s helmet goes flying off,” assistant general manager Ryan Grigson said. “He has a physical aspect to his game that I think he’ll fit right in.”

Fitting right in won’t be a problem for J.J. McCarthy in Minnesota. The Vikings moved up one spot in the first round to ensure their most pressing need was satisfied with McCarthy, the national champion from Michigan who was the fifth quarterback off the board with the 10th overall pick on Thursday.

His widely lauded communication and leadership skills and renowned work ethic ought to make McCarthy an ideal teammate. Off the field, he’s bound to be a fan favorite. McCarthy was an avid hockey player growing up in suburban Chicago until realizing as a freshman in high school it was time to streamline his busy schedule and focus on football.

During a video interview with Minnesota reporters the night he was drafted, McCarthy actually received a phone call from Wayne Gretzky , the hockey great he’d met through his marketing agent. The toughness he developed on the ice since he put on skates at age 5 has been a benefit to his quarterback play.

“Everything about hockey is something that helped elevate my game in football,” McCarthy said.

The Vikings led off the sixth round by selecting Oklahoma offensive tackle Walter Rouse with the 177th overall pick. Rouse started his career at Stanford, where he wanted to go to study and football was at first an afterthought. The biomechanical engineering major started as a true freshman, though, and was quickly hooked. Suffering a shoulder injury in 2022 prompted him to put off the draft by a year and transfer to a stronger program for his fifth and final season.

Rouse is from the Washington area and attended Sidwell Friends School, where he was one class behind President Barack Obama’s daughter Sasha. He has a basketball background, too, inspired by his grandfather, Vic Rouse, who tipped in the winning shot in the 1963 national championship game for Loyola University.

Alabama kicker Will Reichard was the team’s second sixth-round choice. He set the all-time NCAA scoring record (547 points) over five seasons with the powerhouse Crimson Tide, and like Rouse he put off the draft a year ago to strengthen his profile. Specifically, he honed his kickoff skills, and he impressed the Vikings with his consistency in personality and performance.

“One thing about Will in my personal evaluations was something I borrowed called net pattern: Where’s the ball hitting the net?” Vikings college scout Steve Sabo said. “When you watch a lot of Will’s kicks? Center net, center net, center net.”

LUCKY SEVENS?

The Vikings wrapped up the weekend by taking Wake Forest center/guard Michael Jurgens and Texas A&M-Commerce defensive tackle Levi Drake Rodriguez with their seventh-round picks.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Vikings currently own only three picks in the 2025 draft, but they hung onto their first-rounder without having to use it to obtain a quarterback. They also have two fifth-rounders, though they will also likely be awarded a mid-round compensatory pick for losing Kirk Cousins in free agency.

Train strikes in May 2024: Full list of dates and lines affected

Rail lines are set for disruption in the week following the first May bank holiday as train drivers at 16 rail companies strike on different days.

Monday 29 April 2024 09:17, UK

for the journey ahead

Train drivers will stage a fresh wave of strikes and overtime bans in May, causing disruption to the rail network.

The strikes are part of a long-running dispute over pay.

Members of Aslef union at 16 rail companies will walk out on different days from 7 to 9 May.

Additionally, all members will refuse to work any overtime from 6 May to 11 May.

Here is a full list of the services affected by strikes and when.

Rail strike dates

Tuesday 7 May

Strikes will affect c2c, Greater Anglia, GTR Great Northern Thameslink, Southeastern, Southern, Gatwick Express and South Western Railway.

Wednesday 8 May

Strikes will affect Avanti West Coast, Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, Great Western Railway and West Midlands Trains.

Thursday 9 May

Strikes will affect LNER, Northern Trains and TransPennine Express.

Overtime ban dates

From Monday 6 May to Saturday 11 May union members will not work overtime.

Overtime bans, an action short of a strike, means some services may not be running or may be reduced as drivers refuse to work their rest days.

People are advised to check before they travel, as some areas may have no service.

How do strikes and overtime bans affect services?

Strikes tend to mean services on lines where members are participating are extremely affected or cancelled entirely, whereas overtime bans often lead to reduced services.

An underground train pulls into Leicester Square station in central London February 11, 2014. A planned 48-hour strike this week by staff on London's underground rail network which threatened to bring travel misery for millions has been suspended to allow further talks, unions said on Tuesday. Are there strikes on the Tube too?

There have been regular strikes on London Underground too recently, and while there aren't any planned walkouts for drivers, customer service managers are set to walk out on Friday 26 April in a dispute over terms and conditions.

There will also be an overtime ban for the customer service managers on the following days:

Monday 29 April

Tuesday 30 April

Wednesday 1 May

Tuesday 2 May

Wednesday 3 May

Thursday 4 May

Friday 5 May

The Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) says the action by its members is likely to cause Tube stations to close at the last minute, including on the Saturday following the strike (27 April), while TfL has said on its website "some stations may need to close at short notice".

Despite the warning, a TfL spokesperson has said they aren't expecting significant disruption.

This action follows strike action taken by the same workers on 10 April, which the TSSA said had a "real impact" with "many stations shut at short notice".

They say they are "extremely concerned" about TfL's 'Stations Changes' proposals.

"We have made it clear that our union will not accept the continued threats to our members' roles, locations, terms, and conditions to stand unchallenged," a TSSA spokesperson said.

"We will continue to take sustained action until London Underground is prepared to negotiate with us in good faith."

Commenting on the impending strikes, a TfL spokesperson said: "We are disappointed that TSSA is continuing with this strike action following a consultation process.

"While we don't expect this action will cause significant disruption, we urge TSSA to continue to work with us to help find a resolution.

"There are no planned job losses as part of these vital changes which will improve the service we provide to customers at our stations."

Why are the strikes still happening?

Aslef rejected a two-year offer of 4% in 2022 and another 4% this year, saying it is way below inflation, and is linked to changes in terms and conditions.

Aslef said train drivers have not had an increase in salary for five years, since their last pay deals expired in 2019.

The union said after its members voted overwhelmingly in February to continue taking industrial action, it asked the train operating companies to hold talks.

General secretary Mick Whelan said the year-old pay offer of 4% and another 4% was "dead in the water".
