Horseback Safari Trails

Price: R650 per person for 1 hour

Starting on November 1, 2023, Ranger Dan will lead the Horseback Trails at Inverdoorn. These scenic rides offer a Summer Trail, featuring a one-hour horseback adventure with options like the Sunrise Ride at 6:00 AM, Brunch Ride at 10:30 AM, and Sunset Ride at 6:00 PM.

For a unique experience, there’s also the 1.5 hour Full Moon Midnight Trail Ride, priced at R1000 per person.

Private Picnic Trail

Price: R950 per person for 2 hours

For those interested in adding a Karoo picnic to the private two hour horseback trail adventure, please note there is an extra charge of R330 per person. Beverages are not included in the pricing.

Inverdoorn Game Reserve is close to Cape Town and it only takes 2.5 hours to get there. Inverdoorn is a private game reserve that provides an intimate safari experience and here you will be able to see the big 5 and other magnificent wildlife. They have a variety of overnight accommodation options, unbeatable hospitality and for a safari close to Cape Town it is a favourite for spotting wildlife.

Inverdoorn is a 10 000 hectare private game reserve full of incredible South African wildlife. The game reserve is situated in the Klien Karoo, one of the most untouched and beautiful places in South Africa.

They have more than 1,200 animals that you can see on the safari. This includes the zebras, hippos, giraffes, wildebeest, springbok and the famous Big 5. On the two-hour safari drives you will be in an open 4×4 safari vehicle with an experience ranger. The rangers will be telling you all about the wildlife and taking you to the best spots to see them. You will be able to see all the wildlife up close and personal.

When you aren’t on the safari you can enjoy the tranquillity of the lodge, the swimming pool and the views over the beautiful african landscapes. There are options for additional safari drives as well as private safari drives. Inverdoorn also offers an experience where you can walk with the giraffes. Their accommodation will give you a great experience sleeping in the wild. They have different accommodation options for you to choose from. It is the second closest game reserve to Cape Town, after Aquila. This game reserve is more intimate and good for spotting the wildlife.

The Safari Experience At Inverdoorn

The game reserve is close to Cape Town and will take about 2 ½ hours to get there. When you arrive at the Inverdoorn Game Reserve, you will start your experience with a great lunch and a welcome drink. You will be checked in and shown around the lodge and then get ready to go on your first safari drive in the afternoon. Your first safari drive will be one to remember and you might even spot one of the big 5. Dinner will be served later that evening in the lodge.

The following day you will be able to choose one safari either in the morning at sunrise or in the afternoon. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served in the lodge, a real treat boasting an African and Cape Eastern cuisine. Breakfast is served after the sunrise safari. When you aren’t on safari or eating delicious food you can relax at the pool, or at the fireplace depending on the weather and the season that you are visiting. You can also add on an additional safari drive or join an experience walking with the giraffes, depending on the season. After dinner you will be able to enjoy the night in the wilderness gazing at the sky full of stars or with a cocktail at a fire outside. The following morning you’ll be up bright and early to start the day with a sunrise safari drive. Then breakfast is served and some time at leisure before you head back to Cape Town or your onward destination.

At Inverdoorn you can take part in additional game drives and depending on the season you can join an incredible experience and walk with the giraffes. There is a swimming pool and some amazing relaxation areas where you can enjoy tranquillity of the pure African bush.

On the overnight Safari at Inveroom one safari drive per day is included and all of your meals. Excluded are drinks,additonal safari drives and the ‘walking with girraffes’ experience. The food was buffet style and we enjoyed what was on offer and for each of the 2 nights a different menu. Itinerary for this Tour

Day 1: Cape Town to Inverdoorn Game Reserve – South Africa

This affordable 2-day Cape Town Safari starts in the beautiful city of Cape Town . You are collected from your accommodation in the city bowl, between 07h00 and 09h00 this morning (time to be confirmed via your guesthouse the night before departure). Leaving Cape Town, the Mother City of South Africa , we travel northeast into the semi-arid Klein Karoo. The drive from Cape Town to Inverdoorn Game Reserve is only about two-and-a-half hours long.

We arrive at the Big 5 safari lodge in Inverdoorn Game Reserve at about 12h30 and enjoy lunch out under the trees between 13h00 and 13h30. Our lunch is a delightful buffet of five starters, two main courses, and two desserts. Lunch is followed by free time to check into your chosen accommodation and relax at the safari lodge. Take a short nap or a refreshing swim in the pool and freshen up before our late afternoon game drive.

Before setting out on our Big 5 game drive, we enjoy afternoon tea, which is served at 16h00 (15h30 in winter). At about 16h30 we board an open-sided 4x4 safari vehicle and head off on our first game drive in the malaria-free Inverdoorn Game Reserve. Your professional guide takes you in search of the iconic Big 5 safari animals, along with an array of African wildlife and birds. While out on the game drive your safari guide will pause for interesting wildlife and bird sightings, allowing you to get a closer look and take photographs. Your guide is also happy to tell you more about the local flora and fauna and answer questions as you explore.

Back at the comfortable safari lodge, we enjoy an aperitif and a tasty dinner at about 20h00 (19h30 in winter). Spend the remainder of the evening relaxing in the bar or outdoor boma. End day one of your Cape Town Safari off with some stargazing before retreating to your comfortable room.

Day 2: Inverdoorn Game Reserve to Cape Town – South Africa

On day two of our Cape Town Safari, we wake up early and set off on a rewarding sunrise game drive at about 06h00 (07h00 in winter). Early mornings are excellent for game viewing because many of the animals are active and the light is ideal for taking photographs. Soak up the South African bush habitat from the open-sided safari vehicle, scanning the bush for movement. Your guide draws on his or her experience and knowledge to locate the wild animals and birds of Inverdoorn Game Reserve, searching out members of Africa's Big 5 as you explore. After our exciting 4x4 game drive in Inverdoorn reserve, we return to the safari lodge for a delicious English breakfast at about 09h00. After breakfast, we get ready to check out by about 10h00.

For guests staying in the Ambassador Collection, a special cheetah viewing is included on your Cape Town Safari today. After checking out of your luxurious accommodation you can visit the cheetah conservation center and spend an hour with the resident animals, finding out more about the conservation work being carried out here.

Our comfortable transfer vehicle departs from Inverdoorn Game Reserve by about 11h30, taking us back to Cape Town. Arriving in Cape Town between 14h30 and 15h00 this afternoon, you are transferred to your Cape Town accommodation. Your driver drops you off at your post-safari accommodation in the city center and surrounds, bringing your excellent budget Cape Town Safari to a close.

4 Star Safari Lodge

There are three charming safari lodges at Inverdoorn Game Reserve which are ideal for accommodating families. The stylish accommodation was designed for relaxation in keeping with the tranquillity of the surrounding Karoo landscape. The lodge rooms feature en-suite showers and air-conditioning which can cool or warm the room. There are communal lounges in two of the safari lodges with a cozy fireplace and a refreshment station. The lodges are in close proximity to the amenities which include a pool, a cactus garden, a lounge with satellite TV, two bars, an outdoor dining area, a telescope for stargazing and a curio shop stocked with interesting goods.

4 Star Tankwa Chalets

The seven luxury chalets look out over the delightful Karoo gardens, for which Inverdoorn Game Reserve is famous. Each chalet sleeps two adults, with three chalets having double beds and the other four being twin-sharing. The chalets come with an en-suite shower and bathrobes are supplied. Each chalet has a cozy wood-burning fire for cold winter evenings and air-conditioning for hot summer nights. There are well-stocked mini bar fridges and coffee machines at the refreshment stations in each chalet. Sip a sundowner, whilst relaxing on the verandah and admiring the charming garden it overlooks.

5 Star Ambassador Collection

Ambassador Chalets

The four luxurious Ambassador chalets form part of the superior Ambassador Collection indulging guests in 5-star accommodation. The view from the private, spacious verandah embraces the vast, expansive Karoo landscape stretching to the far distant mountains. Enjoy a complimentary drink from the minibar whilst relaxing around the Ambassador private pool or enjoying the view from the roof-top terrace. Breakfast and lunch are served in the Ambassador boma, for a traditional South African experience. Kuganha safari camp only accommodates up to six guests at a time providing an intimate and exclusive getaway inside this sought-after Big 5 game reserve. The tented safari camp features a private pool, a spa bungalow, and spacious tented suites with their own patios and dining platforms. There is nothing more special than waking up and witnessing the beauty of the elephant or other wildlife roaming near your tent. When going on a safari, enjoy witnessing the impala, eland or stop at the dam and spot the shy hippo hiding under the water, or even experience waking up to the roar of an African lion – terrifying but a beautiful experience.

A tranquil safari dreamscape

The luxurious Kuganha Tented Camp and Spa is situated just 2.5 hours drive from Cape Town, where guests will feel a sense of exclusivity and serenity.

The beautifully appointed tents are sensitively arranged amongst the thick wooded Acacia Karoo trees, with an inviting pool overlooking the Karoo veld with golden mountains on the horizon. Personalised itineraries offer guests the freedom to use their time at Kuganha to unwind as they make use of the private pool, the exclusive spa bungalow and go on traditional safaris that whisk guests onto the 10 000 hectare wildlife conservancy to view the main attraction: Africa’s exquisite wildlife.

While on safari, guests will have an awe-inspiring occasion as they learn about the Cheetah rehabilitation and conservation project. Returning from an afternoon safari, guests are spoilt with a ‘welcome back’ drink, and guided to sit around the toasty fire while their ranger prepares a dinner feast.

Accommodation

Experience the true wonder of incredible scenery, untamed wildlife and genuine African luxury. The 66sq foot tents offer guests sumptuous lodgings, complete with special touches unique to each tent, spilling out onto their own patios with dining pergolas just a step away. A splash pool provides the perfect vantage point for peering out into the Karoo veld, with a deck and loungers offering plenty of sunbathing opportunities.

After your evening game drive, you’ll be invited to the bonfire area where you can warm up with a drink and share stories with other guests. The Kuganha chef will grill your dinner on an open fire, or ‘braai’ as we call it here, as you chat about your sightings from that day. After a three-course dinner, go to bed to the sounds of wildlife calling, safely cosseted in your luxury tent with dreams of your early morning game drive and the decadent breakfast spread that will await you!
