About Jordan Rudess
Jordan Rudess reunites with Dixie Dreggs for US tour
Dream Theater keyboard player Jordan Rudess will perform with prog fusioneers Dixie Dregs on the Anachronicity tour of the US
Dream Theater keyboard player Jordan Rudess has announced that he will reunite with US fusion proggers Dixie Dregs on the bands upcoming Anachronicity tour of the US.
Dixie Dregs, who feature Deep Purple / Kansas guitarist Steve Morse and Winger drummer Rod Morgenstein, are one of the US premier instrumental prog fusion bands, and Rudess actually toured with the band in 1994 as a replacement for original keybpard player Terry 'T' Lavitz.
The band were best known in the UK for having Take It Off The Top , from 1978s second album What If? used as the theme music for Tommy Vance's Friday Rock Show on the BBC.
Announcing on his Facebook page , Rudess announced: "I can finally share the news that I’ll be joining the Dixie Dregs on their 2024 tour.
"I’m excited to share the stage with some of my favorite musicians with whom I have a special history. Back in 1994, I was offered the keyboard spot in both the Dregs AND Dream Theater the same month.
"I ended up going on tour with the Dregs since I had a newborn daughter at home and, at that time, DT was going out on long runs (none of them had kids yet)."
Thus far the band have announced dates for April with more shows being announced soon.

Dream Theater’s Jordan Rudess Announces Summer 2022 Solo Tour
Virtuoso composer and Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess will be hitting the road solo this summer with dates running from early June through early August. The tour kicks off June 7 at Triple Door in Seattle.
Entitled 'An Evening With Jordan Rudess,' the tour marks the first time the keyboard legend will play make 22 stops in over a dozen states.
Each show will feature a format that is part concert and part seminar. In addition to playing Dream Theater medleys, Rudess, whose last solo release came last year with Rockestra , will also be sharing with audiences the different technologies he uses to create music, such as GeoShred. The goal with this format is to share his process for composing and performing through the lens of his exploration of musical tech.
Rudess is also set to play guitar live for the first time.
The Dream Theater material he will perform will be apart of what Rudess calls "Bach to Rock", which tells the story of his journey from a classical background as a young prodigy at the Juilliard School of Music to a career as a rock keyboard icon. "Bach to Rock" will be performed at the new locations listed below.
At other stops, he will instead be performing "A Road Home", a collection of solo piano covers and original material composed recently.
See below for a list of all tour dates. Visit here for ticketing information and further clarity on which set you can expect at each stop.

DREAM THEATER's JORDAN RUDESS Announces Summer 2021 Solo Tour
DREAM THEATER keyboardist Jordan Rudess has announced several solo tour dates for this summer.
He says: "I am finishing up my East Coast piano tour this week in NY and PA and starting a West Coast tour on Sep. 1. It's great to be performing again at really excellent venues. I play music from entire catalog including DREAM THEATER , solo albums and covers of some of favorite music."
Upcoming shows:
Jul. 23 - Ardmore Music Hall, Ardmore, PA Jul. 25 - City Winery, NYC, NY Jul. 29 â Daryl's House, Pawling, NY Sep. 01 - Yoshiâs, Oakland, CA Sep. 30 - Aladdin Theater, Portland, OR Sep. 06 & 7 - Hotel CafĂ©, Hollywood, CA Sep. 09 - The Coach House, San Juan Capistrano Sep. 11 - House of Blues Voodoo Room, San Diego, CA
This past March, Rudess released his latest solo album "A Chapter In Time" . The LP was created as a musical reflection of a most unusual time in our history.
"I had this kind of musical diary that I was keeping during the whole beginning [and] middle of the lockdown, which was me basically going into my studio and working with these kind of trippy piano sounds and programming these ambient colors around the piano," Jordan told "The Guitar Hour" podcast. "And I was doing that a lot. It was really very cathartic for me. It was kind of helping me even just deal with my own feelings and everything like that. So after I got a whole bunch of those together, I thought, 'I should really release this as an album' â kind of like a marker of the time period. It's really just personal, if nothing else."
Regarding his decision to release the LP via Bandcamp , which supports artists and labels through revenue sharing of sales of a band's digital music, vinyl, t-shirt, or any other product listed on the web site, Rudess said: "The music business is just such a difficult place right now. It's so hard to make any money. It's crazy, and it's so sad. So I decided I would release it on Bandcamp so I would stand a chance to pay my expenses and maybe make a few bucks â instead of putting it out on Spotify and iTunes and Amazon , all the streaming services like that."
Rudess has been the full-time keyboardist with DREAM THEATER since the recording of 1999's "Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory" . Beyond DREAM THEATER , he has released a number of acclaimed solo works and has also blazed a trail in helping to evolve the art and science of keyboard controllers. He created the successful app development company Wizdom Music , which has developed award-winning apps, including MorphWiz , which won the first-ever Billboard award for "Best Music Creation App". Wizdom Music has also built apps for Intel , Microsoft and RIM .

CONCERT REVIEW: JORDAN RUDESS Dazzles The Audience in An Spellbinding Display of Talent to Close Solo Tour (August 6th, 2022)
There are two types of rock music aficionados. Those who would immediately know who Jordan Rudess is, and those who would raise an eyebrow when his name is mentioned, as a clear sign of âI donât know who you are talking aboutâ. If you are reading this you probably belong to the first, and after you are done devoting some minutes of your time to this article, you should show it to someone you know, who belongs in the latter group.
Mostly known for his prolonged tenure as the man behind the keyboards for the platinum-selling and Grammy winners progressive metal icons Dream Theater , Rudess have enjoyed legendary status for several decades now, not only as keyboardist, but also as software developer and composer, with his own company Wizdom Music focusing to push the boundaries of technology to create expressive and exciting tools for the making of music.
Taking advantage of a break during Dream Theater âs busy touring schedule, Jordan recently embarked on a solo tour dubbed âAn Evening with Jordan Rudessâ , and this piece is my humble effort to illustrate the events happened during the last night of such trek, which was held at the Amaturo Theater in Fort Lauderdale , Florida. Are you familiar with Dream Theater âs bombastic and extremely complex music and visually arresting live spectacles? Well, this was nothing of the sort. Was it worthwhile to be there?⊠Youâll find out soon enough.
Armed with his MacBook laptop, his iPad, a set of headphones, one guitar, and a luscious Steinway & Sons piano, Rudess began the evening with a completely improvised piece that garnered one of the many fervorous applause of the night, after he confessed, he didnât have anything planned for it, and just played what came to his mind. From that moment on, he took the audience on an intimate yet  lively journey throughout his life and career, intertwining anecdotes from his early musical formation days at the Juilliard School of Music â and how he dabbled with his studies during those formative years â his bold attempt some years later of abandoning that path against all odds and trying his hand as a solo progressive rock keyboardist, and obviously some stories about his more than 25 years with âthat side project of mine which you might have heard about called Dream Theater ,â including hilarious moments when he shared some insights about the creative process in the studio and the interactions with his band-mates.
Now, letâs be clear. One thing is to be a keyboard whiz and a borderline-inhuman piano player, capable of performing the most daunting arrangements and prodigious melodies while your hands move over the keys of a piano at dizzying speed for mere mortals like me; and a totally different one is to present yourself in front of hundreds of spectators, as an army-of-one type of show, and turn the experience into highly enjoyable for those in attendance. Thereâs a prominent level of charisma required to achieve such a mission, and many musicians will miserably fail if presented with that challenge, despite how accomplished they can be with their instruments. Nevertheless, Rudess passed that test with flying colors, exhibiting a natural charm which unquestionably moved the presentation to outstanding territory.
Trying to define Jordan âs abilities while pulsating the keys of the piano, toying with his own GeoShred app on the iPad â which he played for a couple of minutes solely using the tip of his nose, â or  engaging in a short guitar piece (at times vertiginous, at times poignant) is an undertaking my writing skills would miserably collapse at: youâve got to be there and experience it in the flesh, while at the same time questioning if your eyes are deceiving you, or âHow on Earth is he even able to do that?â as the guy sitting next to us murmured at some point during the show.
It was an evening bursting of exceptional moments and mentioning them all would be nearly implausible. Some highlights for this writer were his own rendition of Bach âs âPartita No. 5 in G majorâ; using the Moises software to extract some of the original tracks of King Crimson âs âMoon Childâ or YES â âSoonâ to virtually duet with the late Greg Lake and one of his favorite singers Jon Anderson ; asking the audience to participate in an 11/8 groove improvisation by clapping to keep the time-signature count; playing and signing a lovely and personal take of Bowie âs âSpace Oddityâ, and ending the night with a massive Dream Theater âs medley, comprised by my own count by sections of at least 11 tracks.
After almost an hour and 40 minutes of music and several ovations, Rudess came back on stage for an encore, which included Dream Theater â âThe Spirit Carries Onâ and a shorter medley, concluding with the piano ending of Liquid Tension Experimentâ s âUniversal Mind.â As he previously announced, when the spectacle was over he showed up at the merch table to meet a long line of fans and sign whatever they brought with them, activity that prolonged for almost two hours and further cemented his down to Earth demeanor, a trait you donât easily find in musicians of his caliber and prestige.
There are two types of rock music aficionados. Those who have been touched by the grace of this virtuoso musician in a magical solo setting, and those who are yet to experience it. I am fortunate to count myself in the former group. Are you?

Tour Update
admin May 17, 2008 Wizard's Log
Life on the road is interesting for sure.
One of the things I really don’t like about the road is waking up in the various parking lots across America (or anywhere else for that matter).
Let me the share the events of a special morning with you. Detroit, Michigan, May 14th. I awoke when I decided that being cornered by thugs in a dark room was not the direction I wanted my dreams to be going in. Enough sleep if that was gonna be the content of my dreams! Dragged myself out of the bunk area and found the switch with bleary eyes to open up the front lounge door. I lifted the curtain to reveal a very rainy day indeed! My eyes then went to the table where there was a long note containing directions with how to navigate from this bus parking lot into the hotel. I did not have an umbrella or anything and the thought of this journey was difficult. I decided to further research the situation and open up the other side of the curtains.
This was a special view indeed! Terrorist? I saw a guy trying to light up a huge bin that was in the middle of the parking lot, 10 feet from our tour bus with all the sleeping band members. I reached for the phone and tried to figure out if I was gonna call 911 or just call my tour manager Rikk. My eyes caught a bunch of people (other terrorists?) standing under an awning by the hotel. Many of them were hlding the little red cannisters that you use to put out fires. Sorry, can’t think of what the stuff is called! Also they seemed dressed in various hotel type uniforms.
Maid, Concierge, Cook etc…The picture was shaping up a bit. FIRE TRAINING 10 feet from our bus!! Nice! Very nice. Well I called Rikk right away (and he came right away) but in the mean time I caught a bunch of pics of this huge fire going off and then the various employees putting it out! There was smoke surrounding the bus each time and I was not going out there to “talk” to them. Rikk came and lost his mind on them, which I witnessed from inside the bus. It soon stopped, See the pic of the fire at one moment from my bus window and the note that was left on the bus table with directions.
The Detroit dressing room was very special indeed so I snapped a shot of that. It was very very simple and not glamorous at all. Sorry to ruin anybody’s fantasy here!
In Columbus Ohio I happened to see a theater right by my hotel and on the billboard it said YO YO MA THURSDAY…Today was Thursday. I looked at James and said, “Lets go see if that is really happening later today?” Sure enough it was, and we got some great seats (third row) for the show. The Columbus Symphony was great and YO YO was awesome. Such joy exudes from him in his music making process. He was a real inspiration. Every note counted. Every phrase was a beautiful musical experience with full dynamics. James and I were very happy to get a break from the loud rock world to go see this event!
Out for my walk the next day I walked by the state house and happened to come across some heavy artillery. Well-not really, but I thought this Cannon was pretty cool, so I snapped a shot of it.
Finally today we are gonna drive over to Cleveland for another rock show. Tour is going well. I’m excited that we are heading back towards home turf for me!
Hope to see some of you out there smiling!
