Live reviews

I have seen Katherine Ryan live a lot of times I have even seen her show glam role model 3 times so for me to give her any less than 5 stars would be a lie! During this show Katherine sent me a message to come back stage for wine and grapes (oh how the other half live) and she was nothing but lovely! Truly made us feel like we was one of the gang! She always seems to get me involved with the show from pretending to do the N-Dubz sex tape or show off my kathbum shirt (which I made my self) her jokes are always on point with her strong but sweet acid mouth! I had worked in theatre for 6 years meaning I have met some of the best stand ups around! But Katherine Ryan always has time for fans she always has a great MC and is only to happy to take photos with! Katherine Ryan always owns the stage and that's why she is the queen of comedy! Making Kathbum a must see show!

Katherine Ryan: Missus at the London Palladium review: she’s living her best life and we love it

The Evening Standard's journalism is supported by our readers. When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission.

Last time I saw Katherine Ryan onstage in 2018 she was singing the praises of singledom. “Men are like dolphins, best enjoyed on holiday,” she said. A lot has happened since then. A virus has swept across the planet and Ryan has embraced marriage, as she explains in her new show, Missus.

Things did not always pan out as planned during the pandemic for the sassy, sardonic stand-up. Missus charts the bullet points of the recent years in the life of Ryan. Not just nuptials, but also giving birth to a second child and vanquishing a burglar. Each story is jam-packed with punchlines and slickly delivered.

Fans may be familiar with some anecdotes. Her husband is Bobby, her childhood sweetheart who she reconnected with when visiting her Canadian hometown for Who Do You Think You Are?, or “Please Don’t Let Me Be A Nazi”, as she wickedly calls it. Love bloomed despite a language barrier – Bobby speaks English but with such a strong accent people think his name is Barbie.

The romance material is chat show-honed but with bonus pay-offs here. The same goes for Ryan’s recollections of being burgled. The incident was widely reported but in the flesh the tale is garnished with new detail. Ryan ensured that throughout the ordeal, as is the case onstage too, she never spilt a drop of her ever present wine.

katherine ryan tour london

This is very much a personal show. There is a brief digression about politics in which she suggests the government needs a spokesperson who does not tell lies and a passing defence of non-woke comedy, but the emphasis is very much on Ryan and her lawnmower-loving hubby.

Between routines Ryan engaged brilliantly with the audience. Fans revealed they had come from as far afield as Atlanta, Macedonia and, erm, Chiswick and she had a wisecrack for every occasion. Ryan is smart enough to combine the acid tongue of Joan Rivers with gentle charm. There were withering put downs yet she also paused to autograph a book mid-set.

The scripted material closed with the freshest anecdote, about Ryan’s pregnancy last year. She wanted a home birth, but her doctor scotched that notion, deeming her “geriatric” as she was over 35. Instead she opted for a no expense spared private hospital delivery, complete with afternoon tea. Except that nature had other ideas.

This account neatly tied up the theme that you never know what is round the corner, from long lost love to random break-ins, so just live your best life. It is a corny philosophy but it works for Ryan and helps to make this such a winning show. Missus is an absolute hit.

Katherine Ryan announces a new tour

Battleaxe hits the road in September

Katherine Ryan is to announce a major new tour, Battleaxe.

The comic is due to appear on Jonathan Ross' ITV talk show tonight and she teased that she will break some news 'that my kids will hate'.

The new show, which promises 'a true masterclass in how to enter your Battleaxe era' will hit the road in September and run through to May 2025, and includes three nights at the London Palladium.

In November, she revealed that she was itching to go on tour again next year, but that the demands of motherhood were holding her back.

At the time, she told the Evening Standard: "I’m going to take a little bit of time now to do the stand-up circuit again, kind of start from the beginning and do clubs and pubs and open mic nights.

'I’m almost finished breast feeding, I feel like I just love stand-up but I feel grateful that people come to see me on purpose but I don’t want to do another tour until I’ve got a really good new show and get a babysitter.

Ryan, 40, has a son Fred, two, and daughter Fenna, one, with her husband Bobby Kootstra as well as   14-year-old Violet from a previous relationship.

Their family dynamic is explored in Ryan's current W show Parental Guidance, while she is also about to be a team captain on Rosie Jones ' Comedy Central panel show Out of Order, with Judi Love fronting the opposing team.

>> Katherine Ryan tour dates

* The Jonathan Ross Show is on ITV1 at 10.35pm, tonight. Other guests include Noel Fielding talking about his Apple series The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin.

Emily Blunt makes big Taylor Swift, ‘Eras’ tour London decision

Emily Blunt seems excited to see Taylor Swift and the “Eras” tour during its London stop at Wembley Stadium.

During an interview with Access Hollywood about The Fall Guy , Blunt and her co-star Ryan Gosling were asked if they were Swifties. Blunt called herself a “huge, colossal” Swiftie.

“I’m going to go see her in August and I literally can’t wait,” Blunt revealed. “My daughters are just beside themselves. Yeah, she’s incredible.”

She then joked that Gosling was not invited. Her Fall Guy co-star would “cry too much,” so he’ll have to go on his own.

From August 15-20, Swift will play a five-night stay at Wembley Stadium in London. Earlier in the European leg, Swift will play three dates at Wembley Stadium from June 21-23. These are her final European dates before returning to the United States in October.

Taylor Swift is currently on a hiatus from her “Eras” tour before it resumes in May. She will take her blockbuster tour across Europe throughout the summer before returning to the United States in the fall.

In 2023, Swift began the “Eras” tour. It primarily visited various stadiums across North America before playing select dates in Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil.

Additionally, Swift just released her eleventh album of original work, The Tortured Poets Department. At 2 am, Swift unveiled the Anthology edition of the album, which included an additional 15 tracks.

Who is Emily Blunt?

Emily Blunt is an award-winning actress who gained notoriety for her performance in The Devil Wears Prada. She is also known for her roles in Looper, Edge of Tomorrow, and Into the Woods. Her other notable roles include Sicario, The Girl on the Train, Mary Poppins Returns, and Jungle Cruise.

Recently, she also starred in the Quiet Place franchise. John Krasinski, her husband, starred in, co-wrote, and directed the first film. He returned as the director of the sequel film as well.

In 2023, Blunt starred in Christopher Nolan’s Best Picture-winning Oppenheimer . The film was a huge box office hit and opened opposite Barbie. Blunt also received her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Katherine Oppenheimer.

She now stars in The Fall Guy, which stars Barbie star Ryan Gosling.

In the film, Blunt plays a film director. Gosling plays a stuntman and Blunt’s ex-boyfriend. Together, they have to save the star of Blunt’s film after he is kidnapped.

David Leitch (Bullet Train) directed the film. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Winston Duke, and Stephanie Hsu also star in the film. The Fall Guy premiered at the 2024 SXSW (South by Southwest) Film Festival on March 12.

Coming up, Blunt will star in If. Like A Quiet Place, the film was written and directed by Krasinski. Ryan Reynolds, Steve Carrell, Cailey Fleming, and Matt Damon will also star in the film.

Rishi Sunak faces worst losses for 40 years

Katherine ryan says welsh trip was 'one of the best holidays i've ever had'.

The latest episode of Channel 4's Joe & Katherine's Bargain Holidays, which sees TV comedians Joe Wilkinson and Katherine Ryan go on bargain holidays around the UK and Europe, features all the fun stuff to do and the gorgeous views around Three Cliffs Bay, Gower, and Mumbles. A notoriously honest and salty comedian, Katherine doesn't hold back about her time in Wales and of course is won over by the trip, telling her travel pal that it's "one of her best holidays".

In the instalment, seen on Thursday, May 2, they also visit Port Talbot's Baked Bean Museum, take on some small children in a sandcastle competition, and try Welsh food such as laverbread, which Joe does not enjoy. Both seasoned stand-ups they are also known for their appearances on Eight Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown while Joe has also appeared in After Life and Katherine is a regular on Your Face or Mine with Jimmy Carr and appeared in Netflix's The Duchess.

The pair kick off the episode by putting up their canvas tent at the Three Cliffs campsite which offers "super-fancy glamping" according to Joe with a "belting view of the beach". At the campsite the pair put up the tent successfully before taking part in a beach clean – which Katherine embarks on with a "face like a slapped arse" according to Joe – but she's into it thanks to the promise of a hot dog at the end.

It's not all bad though – Katherine muses that "there's no garbage" at the beach and that the volunteers should "come to London" instead. Plus they get free hot dogs around a bonfire at the end, which feeds into their "bargain" MO.

They also visit Mumbles where they take a bike ride. Almost causing chaos with their unruly cycling, Katherine accuses Joe of making her "look like a d*ck again" as he encourages her to greet bypassers by saying "mumbles" at them , which he claims is also a Greek term of greeting people.

Despite her reservations Katherine is loving the Welsh seaside town. "I love the Mumbles so far, Joe," she says at one point before going on to claim later in the episode that: "I love the UK. I love every part of it. I love Wales. This is one of the best holidays I've ever had."

This was probably due to the fact they'd just beaten a load of kids at a sandcastle competition – though Katherine did seem to enjoy most of the aspects of the trip from the food, the views and the £30 prize to spend in the nearby arcade, exclaiming: "We destroyed those kids!"

The show is peppered with the pair's signature humour and jokes but there's no doubt that Joe and Katherine had a great time, also taking part in orienteering around Oystermouth Castle, venturing east to visit Captain Beany at the now-closed Baked Bean Museum in Port Talbot , while they finished off their trip with some high-speed car rides around Llandow and a steam train ride on the Gwili Railway in Carmarthenshire .

They priced up their break at £198 per person for four nights. Joe was quite pleased with the bargain trip and Katherine covered Wales concluded: "I've had a great time in Wales and as a bargain holiday family adventure 10 out of 10 – the kids will love it."

You can catch up with Joe & Katherine's Bargain Holidays on All4 now and it airs weekly on Channel 4 at 10pm on Thursdays.
