Host with the Most

CMT Awards 2023 host Kelsea Ballerini hit the red carpet at Sunday night's show in Austin in a sea green Dolce & Gabbana number styled simply with David Yurman jewels, clear heels and sleek hair. Oh, and new boyfriend Chase Stokes on her arm!

A Somber Turn

To open the show, Ballerini wore a black suit and remembered the six victims of Monday's Covenant School shooting in Nashville .

"Tonight's broadcast is dedicated to the ever-growing list of families, friends, survivors, witnesses and responders whose lives continue to forever be changed by gun violence," Ballerini — who lived through a school shooting herself — said . "I pray deeply that the closeness and the community that we feel through the next few hours of music can soon turn into action — like, real action — that moves us forward together to create change for the safety of our kids and our loved ones."

Silver Belle

While chatting up the crowd, Ballerini and co-host Kane Brown donned some sparkly cowboy hats to go with her shimmering silver minidress.

Purple Reign

Ballerini's purple jumpsuit came with a special accessory: a purse that held a burrito!

Green Goddess

Halfway through the show, the singer was party-ready in another sparkly style, this one a neon green mini.

Flower Child

For her bubbly performance of "If You Go Down," Ballerini sported a retro floral ensemble complete with big hair and backing from RuPaul's Drag Race contestants Manila Luzon, Kennedy Davenport, Olivia Lux and Jan Sport — sending a message about recent anti-drag legislation being introduced around the country.

Thinking Pink

Slipping into one more look before the show wrapped, Ballerini signed off in a flirty, heart-embellished pink number accessorized with a big bun and dangly earrings.

Behind the Hair

Ballerini teamed with celebrity hairstylist Peter Lux to create a sleek, center parted look inspired by '90s supermodels.

First: the prep. After washing her hair with the OGX Extra Strength Biotin & Collagen Shampoo & Conditioner , Lux began the styling process, using OGX 's Silk Blowout Quick Drying Thermal Spray from root to tip for extra shine. He then coated Ballerini's ends with a few drops of the OGX 5-in-1 Frizz Free Miracle Gloss Keratin Smoothing Oil Miracle Gloss Spray for a layer of heat protection and hydration.

Next up: the blow out. "I blow-dried her hair over a natural bristle round brush to achieve a super silky, glossy finish," Lux says. "Once her hair was dry, I used the Great Lengths Tape-In Extensions in a variety of shades to achieve a perfect result of full dimension. The pro color-matched each hair piece with Ballerini's highlighted mane, which resulted in six rows of extensions in multiple shades of blonde.

Lux then "used a large curling iron to achieve bouncy voluminous waves with a lot of movement" and finished off with the OGX Renewing + Argan Oil of Morocco Weightless Healing Dry Oil Spray for "red-carpet shine."

Kelsea Ballerini switched out of a strapless gown into a denim minidress in the middle of the ACM Awards

• Kelsea Ballerini wore two Dolce & Gabbana outfits for the ACM Awards on Sunday.
• She first walked the red carpet in a custom-made strapless gown with a thigh-high slit.
• Ballerini later wore over $9,000 worth of the designer's denim designs for a performance.

Kelsea Ballerini wore two outfits in one night at the Academy of Country Music Awards this weekend.

She first walked the event's red carpet on Sunday in a strapless gown that was custom-made for her by Dolce & Gabbana. Her emerald dress had a ruched bodice and a floor-length skirt with a thigh-high slit. The latter part of the dress also had a small train that extended behind her.

Ballerini completed the look with a matching face mask embellished with crystals, shining emerald sandals, and layers of diamond bracelets.

During the ACM Awards show, Ballerini said she was "turning music city emerald" with her look.

Later that night, the country musician wore another look from the Italian fashion house to perform onstage with Kenny Chesney: an off-the-shoulder minidress made from light and dark-wash denim. 

The dress — which normally has two additional straps — retails for $1,975 . She also wore the brand's $895 slingback denim heels , and $6,250 diamond-and-pearl earrings .

Ballerini was styled by Molly Dickson for the awards show, and Kelsey Deenihan Fisher did her hair and makeup. 

On Instagram , Fisher shared a close-up shot of Ballerini's glamorous look, which included green eye shadow and tousled waves that she created using Nudestix makeup and Mydentity hair products.

Representatives for Kelsea Ballerini and Molly Dickson did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

On August 14, the country singer celebrated the end of her explosive summer festival performances and announced that her upcoming tour is officially in the works via a fun TikTok. Filming herself in slow motion, she turned to face the camera and walked forward, revealing a striking cobalt blue corset with a mesh neckline and matching high-waisted blue trousers featuring slits at the ankles. Kelsea finishes off the clip by twirling again and blowing a kiss.

"The Little Things" singer captioned the video : "Festival season is over … TIME TO GET TO WORK ON TOUR YALL 🤩."

Right on cue, fans immediately stormed the singer's TikTok comments with compliments about her look and many expressed excitement toward the tour news.

"No, you seriously you are the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen 😩😩," one fan wrote. "The fit 😍," a different follower said. "Will there be a lot of blue outfits on stage?!?!!?!" another added.

All the buzz also adds to the stirrings of the songstress's upcoming music. She gave a closer look at the same outfit on Instagram , while teasing her new singles. "Is this giving heartfirst, love is a cowboy, the little things, or the new one that comes out in a few weeks energy?" she captioned her post.

It's not the first time Kelsea's turned heads with her looks . She recently paid homage to country music legend Shania Twain by stepping out at the 15th Annual Academy of Country Music Honors wearing the gown Shania donned for the Grammys in 1999. The pair previously collaborated on the single, " Hole in the Bottle ."

"I am so blown away," Shaina told Entertainment Tonight . "She looks stunning. She looks like an absolute angel. It's very flattering to see her in the dress, and that she even wanted to wear it. I said, 'I hope it's not too dusty after being in the [Grammy Museum].'"

Let's hope the "Love is A Cowboy" singer pulls out more show-stopping looks during her tour!

How Kelsea Ballerini Brought Runway Style to the CMT Music Awards

Kelsea Ballerini is ready for her fashion moment. For country fans, the chart-topping 27-year-old singer is a household name, but last night as she hosted the annual CMT Music Awards, Ballerini appealed to the catwalk crowd via daring outfits from designers like LaQuan Smith and Elie Saab. The playful palette of candy shades, chosen by Ballerini and stylist Molly Dickson, added to the evening’s spirited vibe and allowed the star to step outside her comfort zone. “We wanted to lean into bright pops of color to capture the summertime party-esque feel of the show,” shared Ballerini post-event. “Fashion is another creative outlet and way of expressing myself. The way I dress depends on the day and the mood I’m in—that’s the fun of it all.”

Playing emcee had Ballerini feeling exceptionally upbeat. The gig was a special opportunity to celebrate the talents of her peers and showcase another side of her persona. “Hosting lets me be a fan as well as an artist,” says Ballerini. “I get to do what I do, then wear a sick outfit to introduce amazing artists’ performances and stand side stage starry-eyed and pretend I’m still sixteen. I love nurturing that part of me and just being surrounded by the music I find inspiring.”

A longtime watcher of the CMTs, Ballerini found herself reminiscing while she was getting ready to hit the stage at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. “I grew up finding inspiration in videos on CMT and MTV,” she says. “Celebrating that art form and visual extension of music is exciting, [and] being a part of Nashville’s music community has been a warm hug. Hosting a show I grew up watching is a full-circle moment, something I will remember for a long time.” The event’s focus on the audience added to that feeling. “This is the only award show in country music that is voted on by the fans, so it feels special,” says Ballerini. “The farther I venture into my career, the more I realize how the relationship with the fans is everything.”

As a treat to her fanbase, Ballerini found time to debut a brand new song, ‘I Quit Drinking’ with LANY frontman Paul Klein. The pair performed the soulful ballad on a rooftop with Ballerini in an electric blue gown with metallic sparkle. Just one of the five looks she wore that evening, the star had fun keeping the audience at home on its toes by changing every other commercial break. “I love showing a range of different styles and textures in a one-night snapshot like this.” Ballerini's switch from acid yellow Elie Saab pantsuits to barely there Raisa Vanessa minidresses, and a pastel sequin vintage number certainly kept things interesting. 

Though her outfits varied in silhouette and mood, each had a tactile element that kept things interesting. Ballerini’s most daring of the evening? A glossy patent LaQuan Smith catsuit that made her look like a futuristic Barbie. A true departure, Ballerini admits she’s never worn anything like it before. “It felt very 90s, and I always feel strong and sexy changing it up from a typical dress and going for a pants moment—especially when it’s hot pink.”

Much like the iconic crossover artists who eschewed old ideas about how a country star ought to dress, Ballerini doesn’t mind shaking things up. “[Nashville] is definitely a hub of western wear and Southern-inspired trends and tends to be more conservative,” she explains. “ I’ve always been influenced by women like Shania Twain that have pushed boundaries not only sonically, but also through their style.”

Kelsea Ballerini’s Transformation From Country Cutie Into Style Powerhouse Is Impressive: See Photos

Kelsea Ballerini became a star nearly from the moment she first broke out in the Nashville country music scene. With her stunning looks, gorgeous voice and amazing songwriting talent, it was clear in 2014 when the then-19-year-old signed to a major recording label that she was a force to be reckoned with .

It turned out not only was Kelsea a champ when it came to writing and recording hit songs, she also had her own unique sense of style that has developed throughout her career. She started out wearing short-shorts and fringe boots but has morphed into a fashion queen with impressive designer tastes .

Kelsea got to display a wide range of fashion choices that represented her style when she hosted the 2021 CMT Music Awards, wearing chic outfits from designers such as Elie Saab and LaQuan Smith.

“Hosting lets me be a fan as well as an artist. I get to do what I do, then wear a sick outfit to introduce amazing artists’ performances and stand side stage starry-eyed and pretend I’m still 16,” the “Miss Me More” singer told Vogue at the time, adding “I love nurturing that part of me and just being surrounded by the music I find inspiring.”

Kelsea donned a range of colorful outfits including hot pink, orange and yellow numbers. “We wanted to lean into bright pops of color to capture the summertime party-esque feel of the show,” Kelsea told the publication after the telecast.

The “I Quit Drinking” singer was able to pay tribute to her own country music and style idol, Shania Twain , at the August 2022 15th Annual Academy of Country Music Honors show in Nashville. She arrived with the “Still the One” singer, wearing Shania’s white Marc Bouwer figure-hugging turtleneck gown that the country-pop superstar wore to the 1999 Grammy Awards. It still looked so sophisticated yet modern on Kelsea 23 years later.

Deal of the Day

The year prior, the “Yeah Boy” singer gushed to Vogue about the woman who holds the record for best-selling album by a solo female artist of all time.  “[Nashville] is definitely a hub of western wear and Southern-inspired trends and tends to be more conservative. I’ve always been influenced by women like Shania Twain that have pushed boundaries not only sonically, but also through their style ,” she told the publication.

Fans will likely get to see Kelsea show off her impeccable sense of style onstage when she joins country music legend Kenny Chesney on his “I Go Back” tour in 2023, which was announced in November 2022.

The singer co-hosted the event with country singer Kane Brown. The annual award show celebrates artists who have impacted the country music industry.

Ballerini arrived on the red carpet of the ceremony in a gray gown with panel-like corset details sculpting her torso before leading into a high-low skirt. The top portion of her dress featured ivory-colored straps. Styled by Molly Dickson, the singer attended the carpet alongside Chase Stokes.

Later, Ballerini switched into a pastel-purple jumpsuit with more shimmering embellishments along her square neckline and shoulder straps. When it came to hair, Ballerini slicked her blond tresses back into a low ponytail.

In another outfit change, Ballerini embraced the sequin trend in a neon green strapless minidress, which cinched her at the waist before flaring out around her hips. To color contrast with the shiny ensemble, she wore see-through blue pumps.

Ballerini took the stage to perform her latest single “If You Go Down (I’m Goin’ Down Too)” with former “RuPaul’s Drag Race” stars. For the performance, Ballerini wore a ’60s-inspired floral romper with high hair while coordinating with Olivia Lux, Kennedy Davenport, Jan Sport and Manila Luzon.

Kelsea Ballerini brought all the feels to Utah on her ‘Heartfirst Tour’

The country-pop star sang and got down to sharing some emotion at sandy amphitheater show..

In Sandy on a beautiful summer evening, country star Kelsea Ballerini wanted everyone in the audience at her sold-out show, from the youngest to the oldest, to be in touch with their feelings.

Ballerini’s request came out strongest in the middle of her set, as she stood on an auxiliary stage smack in the center of the Sandy Amphitheater crowd, after she performed her hit “You’re Drunk, Go Home” — while walking through the audience.

A Utah summer sunset painted the background behind her, hues of orange and yellow making her second of four outfits of the night — a red sparkly number with matching red bejeweled boots — stand out even more.

Before the started singing at the b-stage, Ballerini told the crowd she met a young girl named Payton, who said her favorite song was “Homecoming Queen.” As Ballerini sang the song, Payton could be seen nearby, jumping up and down. In the middle of the ballad, though, Ballerini stopped, and looked out thoughtfully across the crowd.

Perhaps it was because of meeting Payton, or because she spotted a baby (named Phoebe) with her parents, who held up a sign that read “this is my first concert.” Or maybe it was because of the song’s lyrics: “Not everything pretty sparkles and shines, and even the homecoming queen cries.”

Whatever the reason, Ballerini paused to encourage people, particularly women, to embrace all their feelings — good or bad. In life, she told the crowd in what became almost like a group therapy session, she’s learned that people aren’t always going to be nice.

“Once I gave myself to feel sad when I felt sad and happy when I felt happy, I started feeling the most human I’ve ever felt,” Ballerini said. “I just hope if you hear one thing from me tonight: All of it is really beautiful.”

Ballerini commented that she had spotted more kids in the crowd, like Payton, than she had at a concert in a long time, and she felt it was important to say those words. Then she finished the song.

Ballerini first came to national attention in 2014, with her first single, “Love Me Like You Mean It,” when she had just turned 21. Her career, moving from country to pop, has mirrored the crossover success of Taylor Swift.

Don’t mistake Ballerini for just a pop princess. She’s still got some country fire going on. Take one of the signature moves on her tour, when she stops to share a tequila shot on stage. For Thursday’s show, that shot was taken with “Queer Eye” co-host Tan France, who has made Utah his home.

(Ballerini’s support for the LGBTQ+ community has been quite visible, in the face of anti-LGBTQ+ bills in Republican-controlled legislatures across the country. At the nationally televised Country Music Awards in April, Ballerini performed her song “If You Go Down (I’m Goin’ Down Too),” backed by four drag queens in 1950s Southern fashions.)

The crowd was on its feet from the moment the intro song — Shania Twain’s iconic “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” — blasted over the speakers. They sang and danced, in cowboy boots of every color and hats galore, to songs old and new.

Most of the songs on Thursday’s setlist came from Ballerini’s fourth studio album, “Subject to Change,” released last September. Many new fans, though, know Ballerini for her six-track EP, “Rolling Up the Welcome Mat,” which she released on Valentine’s Day.

The EP — a rollercoaster collection of songs charting the singer’s journey through her four-year marriage to and 2022 divorce from country singer Morgan Evans — went somewhat viral on TikTok after its release. The crowd was mesmerized when she performed songs from the EP, like “Blindsided.”

“Penthouse,” which came later on, received the loudest cheers of the night.

Ballerini appeared in four different outfits — a fringe-covered yellow mini-dress with matching thigh-high boots, a red romper, a black body suit and a lilac dress — each reflective of the emotions in the songs from that part of the setlist.

The Sandy Amphitheater made for the perfect venue. The sight lines are better than most outdoor venues, and there isn’t a bad seat in the house. Ballerini moved around the audience area, interacting with fans in front and back — such as a young girl, who she recognized from Instagram earlier in the day, who was dressed like the singer.

Ballerini noted that she had played Sandy Amphitheater before, and she talked about “going down memory lane” as she shifted into a three-song medley of her earlier hits, “Dibs,” “Love Me Like You Mean It” and “Yeah Boy.”

Ballerini’s six-piece backing band, equipped with a violinist who rocked the stage to its core, and her seamless but thoughtful set design made for a visually beautiful show.

When Ballerini sang a medley of two songs, “Love Is a Cowboy” and “Cowboy Take Me Away,” the massive video screen behind the stage shifted colors from red to blue — highlighting the emotions of the songs and bringing them even more to life, while touching on the imagery of the bridge in the first song.

The songs throughout the set spotlighted Ballerini’s beautiful voice — but the performances on the auxiliary stage, amid the crowd and those with Ballerini sitting on a stool and singing, made the show.

Toward the end of Thursday’s performance, Ballerini saw a sign from a woman in the front row asking her to play a game, with the objective of choosing an extra song to play. Ballerini ended up picking “The Way I Used To,” a song Ballerini recorded in 2020 and had not performed on this tour before. Ballerini got some help from the crowd to sing it, because it had been so long.

Ballerini went back and thanked the fan who made the request. With the camera focused on the fan and her wife, Ballerini sang a few lines of another of her songs, “Unapologetically in Love.” (The couple held up a sign that said they had played the song at their wedding.)

Ballerini ended her set with “Doin’ My Best” and told the crowd, “All we are in control of is showing up, rolling up our sleeves, and doing our damn best.”

The concert might have been most fun for the young girls in attendance — girls like Payton, or the two girls, drowning in oversized Ballerini merchandise, who screamed when “Peter Pan” came on and enthusiastically sang every word to every song.

There was a lot of glitz, glam and sass at Ballerini’s show, the second-to-last stop on her Heartfirst tour. The show lived up to the tour’s name, because it was really all about heart.

She finishes the tour Saturday night in Phoenix. Then she’s performing Tuesday, Independence Day, at St. George’s Greater Zion Stadium, headlining 99.9 KONY Country’s Fourth of July celebration .

Kelsea Ballerini Calls Boyfriend Chase Stokes Her 'Support System': 'That to Me Feels Really Safe'

Kelsea Ballerini appreciates "The Little Things" about her relationship with Chase Stokes .

In a cover story interview with Flaunt released Monday, the country music star opened up about her relationship with the Outer Banks star.

“When it comes to my relationship there’s a beautiful level of him showing up on tour, or at my respective award shows, and me getting to go to set and showing up to his events, where we just get to [be] each other’s support system in person," Ballerini, 30, told the magazine of Stokes, 31.

“That to me feels really safe," she added.

Elsewhere in the interview, the "How Do I Do This" singer detailed the making of her next album, which will follow her February 2023 EP Rolling Up the Welcome Mat .

“I want to make a record about what it feels to be 30... what it feels like to be falling in love and feeling a new level of safety,” she said. “Having the space in my life to experience all of it first had to happen for it now to reflect in the music.”

She also teased that this new album is being built by her "dream group of people."

"And it’s all women," she added.

Ballerini and Stokes first sparked dating rumors after he posted a cuddly photo of them at the Georgia vs. TCU game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. One month later, she revealed she slid into his DMs during a Call Her Daddy  podcast interview.

"I've never seen his show, but I just knew of him, and I just swan dove right on in," Ballerini said of her decision to message him. "His handle is ' @hichasestokes ,' and I said, 'Hi, Chase Stokes.' "

"I was ready to open back up," Ballerini said of dating again after her divorce. "I just felt, why not? I've never really dated; I don't know how it works. I'm like, 'Let's just put ourselves out there; let's just vibe.' And it's been fun."

In January, the couple marked one year together on social media.

"A  whole trip around the sun with my bestie . @hichasestokes thanks for making me write love songs," she captioned a carousel of photos and videos. In the comments, Stokes replied: "I really really ❤️ you."

Kelsea Ballerini is making her return to host the 2024 CMT Music Awards for the fourth time, but she will be flying solo this go round.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be back for my fourth year with my CMT family to host this year’s CMT Music Awards in Austin, Texas,” Ballerini said in a press release in February. “Hosting an awards show that celebrates the music that the fans love most has been an honor, and I know this year will be another unforgettable night.”

Ballerini, who’s also set to perform, previously hosted the fan-voted awards show alongside several different cohosts, including Kane Brown and Anthony Mackie .

Ballerini and four other musicians — Lainey Wilson, Jelly Roll, Cody Johnson and Megan Moroney — have the most nominations this year with three each.
